YN's Watershed Hour

[Drongonia]

Does your nation have a "watershed hour" for its television/radio programming? For those unaware, a watershed hour is a time which (when passed), "adult rated" content is allowed to be aired on TV and in some cases radio.

Australia: M-rated programmes from 19:30, 18+ may not be shown at any time.

Canada: Broadcasters may not air programming that contains violence, sexually explicit material, or coarse or offensive language intended for adult audiences outside of the "late viewing period," which is defined as programming beginning at 9:00 p.m., and ending at 5:30 a.m.

France: -16/-18 rated programmes/films are not allowed before 22:30 and 00:00 respectively.

Germany: Content suitable for ages 16 and older is permitted between 22:00 and 06:00 and content suitable for adults (18 and older) is permitted between 23:00 and 06:00.

India: No watershed, however 11pm - 5am is considered the de facto watershed.

Ireland: No watershed.

Italy: All channels must broadcast "general audience" programmes from 07:00 to 22:30. After 22:30, +14 programmes can be aired, while +18 programmes are prohibited from television altogether except for satellite, cable, and OTT premium adult channels.

Netherlands: Programmes that are rated "All ages", "6" or "9" can be broadcast all day. Programmes that are rated "12" can be broadcast from 20.00 to 06.00 Programmes that are rated "16" can be broadcast from 22.00 to 06.00.

New Zealand: M-rated content may only be shown between the hours of 9am - 3pm and 7:30pm - 5am. 16+ content is only allowed from 8:30pm - 5am. 18+ content is only allowed between 9:30pm - 5am.

Poland: Programmes with a "12" rating or higher are not allowed to be aired during scheduling blocks intended for children, programmes with a "16" rating are not allowed to be aired before 20:00 on mainstream channels, and programmes with an "18" rating may not be aired before 23:00 on mainstream channels.

Spain: 18-rated programmes are allowed only between 22:00 and 06:00.

United Kingdom: For 16+ rated content, 9pm - 5:30am for free-to-air channels, or 8pm - 6am for paid channels. 18+ content may not start before 10pm.

United States: "Indecent content" may only be shown between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

In Drongonia, all free-to-air channels must only play content (including advertisments) rated MA15+ between the hours of 8:30pm and 5:30am. Content rated 16+ may only be shown between the hours of 10pm and 5am on weekdays, and 10:30pm to 5am on weekends. Paid television channels may show the content at any time, except on channels specifically targeted at children under the age of 16. A warning message must preface all content rated 16+ however.

Over radio, content rated 16+ may only be aired after 10pm at any day of the week, otherwise it must be censored. The most common real-world application of this is inappropriate language in music, which must be censored before 10pm.

News and sports coverage is exempt from the system, however, broadcasters must warn viewers prior to showing any content considered graphic or inappropriate for viewing to those under 16.

So again, does YN have a watershed hour/time?

[Aikoland]

Aikoland officially has no watershed, with the only restriction being that content rated RA (Réservé aux adultes, For Adults Only) is prohibited from broadcast, as the RA rating is exclusively for content specifically aimed at adults, such as pornography, and this rating is legally enforced.

Due to the circumstances of Aikolandais television broadcasting, however, our nation de facto has the same watershed hour as France, as there are only seven television channels that actually originate from within Aikoland and all French television channels are available on cable/satellite, so the seven Aikolandais have unofficially adopted the same watershed as France does. (Although it's still not 100% the same. As stated above, content rated RA, which is meant for 18+ is not permitted, so Aikolandais television channels treat the M rating [Matures, meant for 17+] as the equivalent to the French 18 rating and will not air programs rating M before 00:00. There is no equivalent to the 16 rating, as the next lowest rating after M is A [Adolescents, meant for 13+])

[Estado Novo Portugues]

No watershed. However, the following types of content are illegal in the Holy Catholic State, and may not be broadcasted at any time:

• Blasphemy against God, Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Catholic saints
• Heresy against Biblical truth and Church teachings
• Desecration of holy objects or state symbols
• Words or actions that offend Christian religious feelings
• Words or actions that scandalize the national government
• Depiction of drug use, weapons or sexual intimacy
• Depiction of non-traditional lifestyles, such as homosexuality
• Promotion of harmful ideologies, such as communism

Also, all television stations sign on at 08:00 and sign off at 22:00, so nothing is shown outside those hours.

[Alzatia]

Alzatia doesn't have any television stations of its own, so there's no official watershed. Although in practice, it follows the French and German watershed times (00:00 to 05:00 and 23:00 to 06:00, respectively), as almost all TV programs are imported from the two neighbor nations. But this information is irrelevant for most people—TV sets require electricity, which very few households have.

[The Holy Britainnian Empire]

Britainnia's watershed hour is 10:00 PM

[Andocara]

Andocara's Mature Only Broadcasting lasts from 9:00 pm (21:00) to 6:00 am (6:00). Between these times is where radios broadcast content aimed at mature audiences 18 and over.

[Sky Reavers]

Watershed time? That's ain't our style! We just broadcast both kid and adult content daytime, nighttime, anytime! Ya' can see that action movie with protagonist shoutin' curses at his foes, at the dead of the night, or watch a wet T-shirt contest on your workplace! Or, your kid may watch that show, which critically analizes Bible and Quran, after he returns from school!

What if kids see something "inappropriate", ya' ask? Well, they gotta learn, otherwise, we gonna have a bunch of sweet summer children, who belive, that lil' babies are delivered by stork. Overprotecting is just ain't Sky Reaver way, we gotta prepare for an epic war for freedom and loot!

Now, we hate to tell ya' this, but we still have rules on content and broadcastin'. They are very few and lax, but we won't let ya' break em'.

[Alinghi Federal-Democratic Republic]

The Confederation officially doesn't have mandatory Watershed Hour, but the TV channels, except for themed channel, usually doesn't broadcast +16 programs before 21:00 and after 06:00

[Lillorainen]

There is no official Watershed Hour in Lillorainen. Unofficially, TV and radio channels may (and usually do) decide to limit adult content to the hours between 22:00 (10PM) and 06:00 (6AM), but cases of adult content being aired outside this range is not unheard of. The only thing mandatory by federal law is a warning message ("This show is inappropriate for watchers below the age of 16") beforehand.
It might be worth noting, that content considered appropriate for minors in Lillorainen might not necessarily be considered appropriate for minors elsewhere, though.

[Mobius and the Biscay]

Adult content (Shows rated OA) can only be aired on television between 10:00pm and 6:00am except on paid channels that target an exclusively adult audience, or if watched on-demand (this includes rental via receiver, streaming services, and PVR recordings).

[Waisnor]

Unofficial watershed exict in Waisnor and it goes from 00:00 to 6:00, when "Night Broadcast" on Waisnorian channel airs. Also there is a practice of moving some episodes of some TV series to 23:00 or 23:30 if it has some qustionable content like excessive violence, touching questionable issues and body horror.

[Thermodolia]

Indecent content cannot be shown on televisions and radio from 0600 to 2000, paid television channels, subscription services, and paid radio subscription services are exempt unless they cater to those under the age of 16.

News is also exempt but must still censor graphic images. Warnings must be added before all shows

[Gandoor]

Under Gandoorese law, the watershed lasts (regardless of which of three time zones you're in) from 20.00 until 6.30. Between the hours of 20.00 and 0.00, television programs rated 15 are allowed to be broadcast and, from 0.00 to 6.30, television programs rated 20 are also allowed to be broadcast.

The watershed only applies to broadcast television and channels only available on cable or satellite are exempt from the law.

There is no (legal) watershed for radio broadcasting, with all radio broadcasters in our nation instead applying their own regulations regarding when to broadcast indecent content. (This is compounded by the fact that, there are no content ratings of music or radio programming in our nation)

[Kermitson]

There is no watershed hour within the Kermetic Domain; there is only one extant television station, which is operated by the Kermetic Temple, and airs (operating only between 7am and 7pm) only public access programming, documentaries, and reruns of various programs featuring Kermit the Frog, sometimes with parts of other programs that were caught at the beginning or end of recording (and for obvious reasons the likelihood of an 'offensive' program being aired in such manner is very low).

However, should a program or programs be recovered during scavenging operations, the Prophet would decide on a case-by-case basis whether the program/s would be suitable for airing, or would instead be locked away in the Kermetic archives - there would thus still be no watershed. The only item in this archive is, at present, a version of 'A Christmas Carol' that was deemed unsuitable for airing by way of conflicting with 'A Muppets Christmas Carol'.

[Coconut Palm Island]

There is no watershed in Coconut Palm Island. However, indecent programming is required to be on channels numbered 800 or higher-- so it is unlikely that kids will accidentally flip past them. Many Coconut Palm Island TVs come with parental control features that parents can activate that block the adult channels.

[New Jeromia]

Pornography, extreme violence and extreme hate speech, and other very negative topics are banned at all hours. Films with high age ratings are aired between 12:00 and 5:00AM. Private cable channels are exempted from all of these rules, though most will follow them or make sure you really want to see the bad content. Most also provide parental controls.

[Molither]

Molither has a watershed hour of 8PM

[Hispania Major]

No watershed, but shows with mature content can't be aired on channels intended for children and families.

[DiaperLand]

Our nation does not have a watershed, and mature programming plays continuously throughout the day on some media channels. Parents concerned about their children seeing inappropriate content have the ability to block certain channels and to subscribe to packages labeled as "kid friendly" to avoid the problem. Unfortunately there is still an issue with mature commercials and advertisements, many featuring sexual innuendo and adult themes.

[Indian Empire]

Indian Empire has highly variable "watershed hours", depending on the network. Some more niche networks don't have watershed hours at all, and are allowed to show NM (No Minors) rated content at all hours of the day. Mainstream cable networks, sports networks, and cartoon networks are the main networks with watershed hours. Mainstream cable networks are permitted to show T10 rated content (Teen 10+) at any time of day, and are only permitted to show NM content between 9pm and 5am. Cartoon Networks, outside of specific adult oriented ones, aren't permitted to show any NM rated content.

[Auzkhia]

Swearing and sex can happen anytime on any channel theoretically. There is no watershed hour. Every thing is on the discretion of both the audience and broadcaster. Self-censoring and self-regulation aren't uncommon for some.

[-Terrapacis-]

There is no official watershed in Terrapacis. Television channels may broadcast content intended for older audiences at any time they wish, but most channels have unofficial watershed start times of between 8pm and 10pm.

[Tangatarehua]

There is no legally defined watershed in Tangatarehua, however by convention TV stations avoid showing violent content at hours when minors could watch it (usually between 3pm and 7pm).

There are no restrictions on sexual content or swearing; only violence is seen as taboo in Tangatarehua.

[-Pashtunistan]

Programs the Pashtun Film Board classifies as Ex (Explicit) are inly allowed to be aired from 22:00 till 06:00

[New Wolvers]

The Neo Wolverian Broadcast Union mandates a general watershed, however the watershed is nationwide and varies from state to state.
Yugo state follows an identical pattern of the Italian Republic regarding the watershed regulation.
There is a proposal to abolish watershed time however and reform the Broadcast Union.
