II. Science and Government
Does your nation's government provide funding for scientific research? Only if it directly benefits from the research, such as development of military technologies.

Are schools allowed to teach about evolution? no
Are schools allowed to teach about sex and reproduction? no
Are schools allowed to teach about sexual orientation and gender identity? no

IV. Science and Society
How is science viewed in your nation's society, and why is that? At best, science (and academia in general) is viewed as a useless waste of time. At worst, it's viewed as Satan worship. The reason has to do with the Holy Catholic State being an extremely conservative and traditional society, where progress and change are met with incredible hostility. The Portuguese would rather trust their Church, which has been around for millennia in some form or other, as opposed to a bunch of upstarts who only really gained traction in the last century. As written by Civil Director Afonso Salazar: "Portugal, without her Church and her traditions, is worse than no Portugal at all. A Portugal without Salazar is a Portugal not worth living in."
How likely is the average citizen to trust science as opposed to superstition? Not at all likely.
How common is science denial in your nation? Does it vary by age or other demographic class? Very common. Overall, age doesn't make a difference—young people are just as likely to reject science as their older counterparts. Lack of Internet means youth are no better informed than anybody else.
How common is rejection of medicine (such as "anti-vaxxer" movements) in your nation? Does it vary by age or other demographic class? See above.
How common is climate-change skepticism in your nation? Does it vary by age or other demographic class? See above.
How common is technophobia in your nation? Does it vary by age or other demographic class? See above.
