Option 4 of Issue 801 says 'When people think @@NAME@@, they should think Hentai!'

Hentai doesn't need to be capitalized there, it's not a proper noun.

It appears you are correct. 'Hentai' has been decapitalised.

Could you create a variant of issue #175, response option #4 which permits rebuking conservative rape cultures on behalf of sexually ethical rights-protecting cultures, without pretending as loveless conservatives do that sexual promiscuity is intrinsically tied to childbearing?

Historic societies which tied sex exclusively to childbearing were frankly prone to childbeating and worse; they didn't incorporate enough honest affection and respect between people to protect civil rights. It was no anomaly that civil rights proceeded in gravitas in America's history. Also, I was personally in sex work for years with no children resulting. That only requires sufficient honesty.

Of course, none of the preceding paragraph matters as much as the fact that Polis Diamonil uses vat reproduction, and no lawful person in Polis Diamonil has large numbers of children. I am very much dedicated to vat reproduction as a protection of civil rights, so I can't endorse the idea that people with huge numbers of lovers would be anything less than the most centrally protected aspect of society in Polis Diamonil: the vats run for their sake, in protection of their superior ethics!

I will hold onto the issue for some time in prayer for its fix. Be assured that I am not in this expressing treachery against the obligatory modern understanding; I speak of prayer only in a compliant secular mode, as referring here to a hope of mercy from individuals in authority.

I noticed a stray apostrophe in option 1 of Issue #793 "Knock Knock. Who's There? Not You Anymore!"

It currently reads as follows:

"My sources are telling me that it's being reverently called 'The Purge,'" declares your personal secretary, who is now doubling as your Finance Minister. "'I think that people have bought the way you handled the @@CAPITAL@@gate scandal and that you had nothing to do with it. This is the perfect time to call for a new election. That should ensure that you'll be elected in a landslide, and not to mention it'll help you find a replacement for me. I'm not cut out for all this financial mumbo jumbo."

The "' before "I think that people have bought the way you handled the @@CAPITAL@@gate scandal" should be replaced by a ". I know, it's extremely minor, but I'm pedantic that way.

Issue 1358, option 3:
“K, u can change the ppl but u need like celebs and WhoTube *s on em. Nohbdy cares bout science n junk, just pick kewl peeps,” reads an instant message from your super with-it niece.

What's the dear with "WhoTube *s"? Is that typo intentional, like the others in the option? It doesn't really seem to be in the same vein.

I'm gathering it means (star)s - thus making it "u need like celebs and WhoTube stars". Because a young person (presumably on a phone, no less - the asterisk is on a whole different page and doesn't get used much, so the muscle memory really isn't there) would type an asterisk rather than type four letters...

A thought:
#556 "Here Be Dragons!" and a number of other issues make use of the word "uppity" e.g.
“I’m not sure there’s anything actually wrong with the public believing dragons exist,” muses Minister of Whispers [randomname], while feeding a flock of little birds. “If you ask me, they’ve been getting a little uppity lately. Remember that protest last week, simply because you wanted to erect your statue in [capital city] Square? Let’s start spreading rumours that you really do have dragons - a whole flight of them! They’ll think twice about speaking out over the new tax bill then! Fire and blood!”

I have some reservations about this word appearing in issues, as it seems to send a message that the word might be okay to use in some settings, or that it's more harmless-sounding and funny than something that struck me as more sinister (as an insult toward African-Americans- here is some context: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/11/yep-uppity-racist/335160/). Sure, it is only used on NS in a mocking context, but even then, maybe it doesn't need to be broadcast.

Is this something that has come to issue editors' minds or their attention before? I feel it is worth some further deliberation and think that others might feel strongly about it (and not for no reason). In my opinion, I think there are other words that may be used without holding such a connotation at all, and maybe those would be better choices.

Thanks!

I have never heard of "uppity" as having racial connotations today:

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictio ... ish/uppity
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/uppity

I do not think that it needs changing.

Okay. My question came to my mind as I had read about the word used in a racist light before, though I can see that its dictionary definition doesn't mention racism. (that said, I was surprised to find Merriam-Webster does mention, if you click the "Usage" section, that this word "has a long history of being applied to members of racial minorities and especially to Black people. Its association with such uses, and the bigotry they represent, means that when it is used to describe a member of a racial minority it is likely to be considered especially offensive." !)

To your point, maybe the word can stay on NationStates, while users will learn about its appropriateness or lack thereof IRL (mostly if they're in the United States...). But this piece of knowledge does appear to be important. (In my own speech, given what I have read, I would err on the side of not using this word and find there is little incentive to use it.)

Applying any negative word to a minority is likely to be regarded as offensive. That is why there are laws against hate speech in many RL settings.

That does not mean negative words cannot be seen in issues. In issues, you may come across views, portrayed by characters, that you find (or which may be) stupid, offensive or wrong. They may use language representative of that view (within PG-13 guidelines). This is not a flaw to be fixed.

If it offends you, you may always delete the issue.

Oh, yes, that puts things into perspective. I have encountered issue options that I don't agree with but are part of the game (because part of the game involves reading some issue options and deciding against them). This issue seems to fit into that mold. While I still think this is a contentious word, I think I can accept your viewpoint.

In issue 1133, option 1, the tagline is "Roadside walls are being built and mother nature is paying for it." However, it doesn't negatively affect environmental stats at all. This tagline might need to be changed.

This is not the thread to suggest changes to existing issues. This thread is only for objective errors with spelling, grammar and punctuation and suspected errors with macros and validities.

Before you begin attempting to change an issue, I should point out that the bar for adding new options to any issue is exceedingly high. Changes are never made for comprehensiveness, only for necessity (such as vital updates or where they add an objective improvement to an issue for the maximum number of players).

First, I would suggest you make a post in the Writer's Block, outlining what you think is the flaw with #1145, how you think a new option would improve the player experience for the maximum number of players (you not liking the issue as-is is not a reason) with a new option that you would like to include (if you want to see it, you must write it). If you receive positive feedback on the suggestion of adding a new option, then you may expand into your own thread for further community feedback.

If you receive positive feedback on your proposed option, editors may take your proposed option backstage for further discussion (taking it backstage does not guarantee that a new option will be added).

We never base statistics on the effect lines, merely the option. Effect lines are one-liners, frequently jokes or references.

The stats are correct for the option. If you have future stat effects that you think unusual, please go to the Unusual Effects Thread.

I may have found a typo in the description of Issue #1079 "What's Love Got to Do With It?":

"When you walk into your office, you see Bart, your personal secretary, in a passionate -- and completely illegal -- clinch with Apu, your other brother."

Since Apu is the only brother mentioned in the issue, this is either a typo (with the intended word being older), a reference to the song "I Like Big Butts" (unlikely but possible), or a way of signalling that Bart is actually your brother too, but I don't know why the issue wouldn't just say that outright.

Could I get some confirmation as to what exactly this is?

There is neither a typo, not are either of your supposed inferences correct.

Apu is just a random name. "Other brother" differentiates the secretly gay brother in this issue from "your brother", the character who recurs throughout the series.

Just had a conversation on the Laz RMB, the person claims that they got Issue 269 Stop The Presses! when they already had the State Press policy. I obviously have no way of verifying it myself at the moment, but just thought I'd ask about it in case it is a validity issue, especially in relation to option 3.
