PRESIDENT MOREAU MEETS WITH EMMIRIAN PRESIDENT AL-AZARI

TOFINO - President Atticus Moreau met with President Khayahad al-Azari of the Islamic Republic of Emmiria in Tofino on Saturday to discuss a "wide-array of topics", said Moreau's Press Secretary, Olivia Capaldo. This marks the second time in three weeks that al-Azari has attended meetings with Moreau in Zamastan, the first of which was held in Tregueux during the Coalition Leaders Summit. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations, including a new deal for oil drilling permits off the coast of Eastern Emmiria in the Toyana Ocean. Additionally, the two discussed strengthening the ties between their respective militaries following months of escalating tensions in the Albarine and Emmirian Seas between escalations of Drambenburgian expansion efforts, a coup attemt in Qolaysia, an independence referendum in Zalluabed, and an internal crisis in Alecburgh following the expulsion of Prime Minister Benjamin Warren. On top of all of this, Emmiria has found itself heading a coalition force to beat back insurgent forces in Saudi Jiddiya aligned with the terror group Al-Fijar.

Much of the purpose behind the meetings of the heads of state, who represent two of the most populous and economically strengthened nations in the Coalition of Crown Albatross, according to experts, is to make a statement. Recent "strongmen" moves by De Yuan's President Xi Jingyi have caused dramatic turbulance in the global economy, with both Tofino and Rhaga extensively worried about the possibility of Yuan devaluing their currency as a response to diplomatic crisises involving the detainings of foreign journalists and prominent diplomatic figures, such as the August 2020 detention of famed Zamastanian prosecutor Cairo Gough in Shanghan. West Chanchajilla, as well, has shown eagerness to gain attention with the executions of several prominent military generals in their own ranks, with dictator Frederick Armbar calling Zamastan and Emmiria "demons bent on the destruction of the socialist utopia".

Former-President Quinn Werner Passes Away at the Age of 78

ABAGENE - Former-President Quinn Martin Werner, who served as President for two terms from 1976 to 1980, has passed away at the age of 78. He was the oldest-living former President following the passing of Aiden Avery in February of 2019. He had been battling health complications for years and was hospitalized in August of 2020 following a liver cancer diagnosis. The cause of death, according to the Werner family doctor, was from complications with the cancer. He is survived by his wife, Hera; his three adult children, Connie, Maria, and Gavin; and a long extended family including his grandson, Congressman Macabe Werner, who became one of the youngest politicians ever elected in Zamastanian history. President Werner passed away at his home in Abagene, Pahl, and was with family members.

Quinn Werner was born on April 8th, 1942, in Emerald, Pahl, Zamastan, the son of Phyllis and Walter Werner. The family moved into a house in Abagene seven months after Quinn was born, chosen partly because its yard was flat enough to make an ice rink on every winter. Walter taught Quinn and his friends hockey on a rink he made in the back yard of the family home, nicknamed the "Wally Coliseum". Drills included skating around bleach bottles and tin cans, and flipping pucks over scattered hockey sticks to be able to pick up the puck again in full flight. Quinn grew to love hockey and fellowship with his friends. In college, he played for the Tofino University Varsity Team. There, he met and married his wife, Hera Maria Pannisberg, on May 19th, 1961.

In 1962, the Zamastan Hockey League team "Emerald Bulls" courted Werner. Bulls owner John F. Bassett wanted to confront the league by signing as many young and promising superstars as possible and saw Werner as the most promising young prospect. On June 12, 1962, signed 20-year-old Werner to a seven-year personal services contract worth Z$1.75 million. Werner scored his first professional goal against Dave Dryden of the Tofino Seals in his fifth game, and his second goal four seconds later. In 1965, after three seasons in the league, Werner retired following the birth of his daughter, Connie.

Following his daughter's birth, Quinn set his sights on politics. His community rallied around him as a strong supporter of youth development programs, and in 1968, Quinn was elected to congress. Quinn was appointed to head the Committee on National Youth Development, where he campaigned for legislation that would keep youth away from drug abuse and domestic violence issues. In 1976, Werner announced his intention and candidacy for President of Zamastan. Facing off against Elene Abotsford, who was seeking a third term, he won the election running alongside the Liberal Party affiliations.

Quinn Werner assumed the office on September 22nd, 1976, at a tumultuous time in Zamastanian history. The growing Civil Rights Movement used nonviolence to confront segregation and discrimination against religious intolerance and sexual-identification movements. The later half of the 1970s, 1976 in particular, was marked by the 1976 Barangadesh hostage crisis, the refugee crisis caused by the 1976 Vulkaria Earthquake, the Helios Island nuclear accident, and the shootdown of Zian Airways Flight 127 by Beleroskov. Among Werner’s first act as President, he led an effort to revamp the education system of Zamastan, allowing for public school programs that were more inclusive to originally less opportunistic families. He also created a national food service program that distributed government mandated foods to poorer income families that proved incapable to sustain for themselves. These public service projects shaped the inclusive and modern day civil prosperity ratings of Zamastan, which measure the livability factors of each aspect of the nation. Experts widely agree that these programs greatly improved life for Zamastan citizens as a whole. Due to the increase of food distribution and education reforms, the generations of Zamastanians became more healthy and intelligent as a whole.

Werner advocated immensely against illegal substance usage and smoking. He and his wife, Hera Maria Werner, broadcast weekly television prompts from the Presidential Mansion to encourage young people and older generations alike to "drop bad and unhealthy habits" and adopt a healthier lifestyle. Werner was originally a proponent of legalized marijuana usage, but upon his promotion to the Committee on National Youth Development, he understood the possibilities of weed being used as a gateway drug and famously advised kids to “Stay away from bad stuff”.

Running for a third term, he lost in 1980 to Aiden Avery, but went away humbly and continued to advocate for youth programs around the country, and founded several charities dedicated to hockey clubs, drug treatment centers, and educational reform programs. He constantly was called upon by Presidents like Cassious Castovia and Foley Sakzi for differing perspectives to their typically conservative policies. Over the decades following his Presidency, he was hailed as a negotiator and a compassionate man, helping bridge gaps of partisan divides.

In a statement, former-President Zacharias Castovia stated that "President Werner's life and legacy long outlasted his administration. He was a great man, a skilled politician, and a loving family man. The nation has lost a true gentlemen, and we will mourn his passing while celebrating his life."

Former-President Anya Bishop released a rare statement, echoing statements of "Werner's prestigious impartiality," which was able to "reach everyone without favoritism."

President Atticus Moreau has released a statement offering condolences to the Werner family, and is expected to speak more on the former-President's passing later today for his weekly press conference. The Werner family and the Commission on Presidential Legacy has stated that the funeral for President Werner will be on February 1st, and Moreau's office has stated that he will recieve a state funeral.

KIBUL ATTACKS - AL-FIJAR LAUNCHES DEVESTATING ATTACKS ACROSS CAPITAL
KIBUL - The capital of Kibul came under heavy rocket attack on Saturday morning as insurgents aligned with Al-Fijar launched an extensive offensive in an effort to take control of key outlying neighborhoods. The attack is the most intensive in nearly 14 years, and certainly the most threatening to the Jaginistan government and the people of Kibul since the conflict with the Al-Fijar terrorist network began nearly 30 years ago. Hundreds of citizens have been reported to be killed in the attacks, with rockets mainly striking residential zones short of government and international zones. The C.C.A. Peacekeeping Headquarters was also hit with rockets, resulting in a number of casualties. It is unknown if any peacekeepers or international workers were killed or injured. President Talaal al-Ayub is safe and has been sheltered in the Presidential compound, saying that the response from the Jaginistan government and armed forces will be strong and swift. Ongoing operations against Al-Fijar continue throughout the country, as well as the city of Haruya.

Several key locations around Kibul have been attacked directly by Al-Fijar squads. The Jaginistan Parliament was hit by suicide bombers, killing dozens of security personnel and bystanders. The Speaker was not present, nor were high level government officials, as Saturday is not a work day for government workers.

The Presidential compound was also targeted, with several security personnel being killed. President al-Ayub is safe.

The C.C.A. Peacekeeping Headquarters was attacked by Al-Fijar gunmen, reportedly breaching the building. Several workers and peacekeepers reportedly killed, several kidnapped additionally. We are awaiting official confirmation from the government of Zamastan, the headquarters' proprietor. It is also unknown as to the nationalities of the peacekeepers killed.

West Chanchajillan Businessman Deported In the Height of Diplomatic Crisis

Siniapore's government has seized the property of a West Chanchajillan business man, Sebastian Alguacil, following an investigation that revealed extensive espionage works tied directly to him and the Armbar regime. Alguacil, an oil barron operating in Siniapore, has been deported back to West Chanchajilla as a result rather than facing charges of espionage and spying, threats to national security, and insider trading on the Singana stock market.

President Tee Hsien Moong has also ordered the ceasing of any travel to or from West Chanchajilla with the exception of refugees seeking asylum protection from the Armbar regime. In a statement, President Tee Hsien Moong stated "the regime of Armbar in West Chanchajilla has long threatened peace and safety around the world, indicating their drive to destroy even their own nation and their own people. There is no place for them in Siniapore, and until Armbar resigns or is removed from power, we will continue to place pressure extensively and persistently."

Alguacil was previously sentenced to 35 months in prison back in 2015 for his role in a Z$4.4 million bribery and money laundering scheme that funneled bribes to then-public officials of PetroSiniapore, the state-owned and state-controlled oil company of Siniapore. Those bribes were connected to Armbar-owned bank accounts operating out of Yubonia.

According to his plea, Alguacil admitted that from 2012 through 2015 he conspired to solicit, intermediate, and pay bribes of Z$4.4 million from an oil services company and companies associated with or controlled by the Armbar regime to PetroSiniapore officials by using Yubonia-based companies and Jyau-based bank accounts in order to obtain and retain business from PetroSiniapore. Alguacil also admitted to conspiring to conceal and promote the bribe scheme by laundering the funds through companies and bank accounts that were used to acquire properties in the Singana residential high-end area for the benefit of certain PetroSiniapore officials.

Fedirico Casoula carried a letter from Syraranto dictator Kyraikos Tasoulas asking West Chanchajillan dictator Frederick Armbar for Chanchajillan petrol and medicines when he was arrested on a Jyau warrant in Gutaai.

Gutaai - A West Chanchajillan businessman was carrying a letter from Syraranto President Tasoulas accrediting him to West Chanchajilla's dictator when he was arrested on a Jyau warrant last week, according to a new court filing in a politically charged corruption case ratcheting up tensions between the Zamastan and the central Euronian nation. Jyau arrested Mr. Casoula in cooperation with a Zamastanian Intelligence Service contracted sting operation.

Lawyers for Federico Casoula made the filing in Point Tarin federal court just hours after prosecutors in the Jyau said they granted the 49-year-old Chanchajillan house arrest as he fights extradition to the Zamastan to face money laundering charges.

Jyaueze and Zamastanian officials believe Casoula holds numerous secrets about how Armbar, his family and top aides allegedly siphoned off millions of dollars in government contracts amid widespread hunger in the oil-rich nation. He was detained last June when his jet made a refuelling stop on a flight to Covijo, where he was allegedly sent to negotiate deals to exchange Syraranto gold for Chanchajillan petrol.

In Ivora, Casoula's prosecution is seen as a veiled attempt at regime change and is likely to complicate any effort by Armbar to seek a fresh start with the Moreau administration, as is the continued imprisonment of several Zamastanians and Jyaueze workers in Ivora, including six Chanchajillan-Zamastanian oil executives and two former Jyau marines caught in a failed raid seeking to capture Armbar.

Federico Casoula has been extradited to Jade Harbor, Zamastan, following a two-week holding in Gutaai. He was fined Z$300,000 for illegal entry and smuggling charges, as well as conspiracy to bribe authorities. Elected to 3 Terms, al-Azari will Announce Successor to National Assembly

RHAGA - President Khayahad al-Azari announced that he will be resigning the Office of President of the Islamic Republic of Emmiria effective next week on February 13th, exactly 10 years to the day that he was inaugurated as President in 2011. Elected to three terms in 2011, 2015, and in 2019, al-Azari is the longest-serving President of Emmiria and has governed over a period of unprecedented economic growth, social reforms, and transformational episodes in Emmirian history. Often credited as being the "father of 21st century Emmiria", al-Azari is leaving office with an unprecedented level of popularity, with approval ratings steady around 72%.

In his resignation speech, President al-Azari stated that he was "extraordinarily proud of the work done," and is "excited and anticipating the work to come." He is expected to name his intention for his successor to the National Assembly on Monday, February 8th. The legislature of Emmiria, known as the Emmirian Consultative Assembly or the National Assembly, is the unicameral body comprising 290 members elected for four-year terms. It drafts legislation, ratifies international treaties, and approves the national budget. All parliamentary candidates and all legislation from the assembly must be approved by the Guardian Council, and successor appointees must be approved by the twelve jurists, including six appointed by the President.

According to insider reports, al-Azari has grown warry about the self-described "cult of personality" surrounding his tenure as President, reportedly telling confidants that he has long been concerned that his supporters see him as the only option for a leader in Emmirian politics. Al-Azari, to his credit, stated that he wishes to see more diversity in the diplomatic process, as an inference to a different President and the allowance of more political participation. He has been an advocate for changing the political dynamic in Emmiria, famously in 2017 appointing the first ever female cabinet member to his administration in the form of Transportation Minister Habeeba el-Selim.

The Tarijar Strait, as well, has been a source of contention in the last several months after the expansion of Drambenburgian military forces in Zalluabed, Qolaysia, and Buckingla. In the diplomatic chaos ensuing following the attempted coup in Qolaysia in December has resulted in an Emmirian diplomat being killed during riots in the Qolaysian capital of Leonrau, several Emmirian fishermen killed during a pirate attack, and the detaining of Zalluabedi sailors by Emmirian coast guard. These incidents escalated al-Azari's position to a new level of executive oversight, which he has personally resented according to those close to him.

In a meeting with President Atticus Moreau of Zamastan earlier on February 6th, al-Azari commented that he has long been worried that the Emmirian society is "leaning once again towards a realm of kings and juntas", and that his resignation will serve to reaffirm the diplomatic process.

Environmental issues have been largely ignored in lead-up to Tuesday’s vote, raising concerns from green advocates.

Environmentalists and Indigenous communities in Paraboca are concerned about the fate of the Legronas Highlands glaciers and forests ahead of Tuesday's presidential elections, as the two leading candidates’ environmental plans received moderate to poor rankings from advocates.

Illegal logging, oil spills and large-scale mining projects have threatened the alpine forests and glaciers, often called the lungs and river source of northcentral Euronia, and local Indigenous communities, which has spurred an economic and social crisis across the country.

But environmental issues have been largely ignored in presidential debates ahead of the vote, in which 16 candidates are competing to be the next Parabocan president – all on vastly different environmental platforms that could shape the fate of Legronas.

“In my years, I have seen everything [politicians] offer and fail to deliver. Absolutely none of their campaign promises make it to Indigenous people,” said Miranda Linga, an Indigenous leader who lives in the alpine forest.

Linga said she has slightly more confidence this year in Martin Perez, a lawyer and an anti-mining activist with ManaChua, the political party of Paraboca's Indigenous movement, who is currently polling third in the presidential contest.

But Perez is 10 to 15 percentage points behind the frontrunners: Guiardo Arauz, an economist and former central bank director who is with the new Democratic Center party, and Mateo Lasso, a former banker now with the right-wing Creating Opportunities (CREO) party.

Arauz is the successor of socialist President Garr'n Cardoza II, a divisive figure who's administration has intensified oil extraction in the Legronas to fund social programmes, while Lasso’s campaign is centred on creating jobs by increasing investment in oil and mining extraction.

Caspiaa to provide Z$ 122.2 million for humanitarian and development assistance in Jaginistan
KIBUL - The Government of Caspiaa has announced its decision to provide Z$ 122.2 million to support humanitarian and development programmes in Jaginistan. Through this new disbursement, sourced from Caspiaa's fiscal year 2020 supplementary budget, an array of humanitarian and development assistance projects will be conducted. This is a vigorous step forward in realizing Caspiaa's pledge delivered at the Tregueux Summit in January 2021, where Prime Minister Ms Tullia Grönberg affirmed Caspiaa's long-lasting friendship with and support for the people of Jaginistan, and pledged financial assistance up to Z$ 180 million per year between 2021 and 2024, a figure comparable to the past 4 years.

This Z$ 122.2 million contribution forms a part of Caspiaa’s assistance to Jaginistan to be disbursed in 2021. It will enable implementation of 17 humanitarian and development assistance projects orchestrated by various organizations throughout the country, aiming for the betterment of livelihoods through multiple approaches.

Caspiaa's Ambassador to Jaginistan Mr Bjorn Jyamstead highlights: “Enhanced security sector plays an essential role in the Jagini-led nationbuilding as we gaze at peace on the horizon. Our continuous contribution to the Law and Order Trust Fund for Jaginistan (LOTFJ) exemplifies Caspiaa’s commitment for a peaceful Jaginistan, as LOTFJ is a significant multidonor programme that plays a vital role in strengthening the country’s security sector. In light of the global pandemic, we also believe that assistance for vulnerable segment of the population who are most severely affected is essential. We truly hope that this new support will contribute to bringing about as many joyous smiles of Jaginistani people as possible.”

As part of Caspiaa's long-standing commitment to improving health in Jaginistan, the Coalition Health Organization will receive approximately Z$660 000 from the total package of assistance to address urgent gaps in the provision of health care. This will play a crucial role in plugging the shortage of life-saving essential health services, which has been further exacerbated due to disruptions caused by the bovine plague outbreak in Jaginistan. Caspiaa’s support will also strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies due to major outbreaks.

Under the new project, CHO will provide technical support, training for staff and 10 trauma emergency surgical kits to 2 hospitals in high-risk conflict-affected provinces of Kalajjabad and Tajamu to improve the provision of life-saving emergency trauma care. One primary health care centre will be deployed ensure emergency primary care for internally displaced persons and hard-to-reach communities affected by conflict, health emergencies and natural disasters. To ensure adequate support to this centre, 100 Interagency Emergency Health Kits (IEHKs) and 6 supplementary health kits will be provided together with training medical staff on managing cases linked to gender-based violence and rape, especially during health emergencies. Lastly, an infectious diseases ward will be established in Kalajjabad province to support early detection and response to cases of epidemic-prone diseases and high threat pathogens.

Caspiaa has been assisting Jaginistan's nation-building efforts in various fields including security, agriculture, rural development, human capacity development, education, health, infrastructure, culture and humanitarian assistance. With the upcoming disbursement of Z$ 122.2 million, the cumulative Caspiaan assistance to Jaginistan since 1994 will amount to Z$ 6.9 billion.

QUETANA VOTES TO REMAIN IN WEDA

After heavy campaigning from both Remain and Leave camps regarding Quetana's position in the Western Euronia Defense Alliance, Quetana has voted to remain in WEDA after the public rejected the Leave referendum. With a voting turnout of around 66% of the voting population, the Remain count defeated the Leave count 64%- 36%.

President António Brafeo said that he was delighted that Quetana will continue to be part of WEDA. "It's good that the majority of the people of Quetana have enough sense to realize that in a dangerous world, being part of a strong alliance is the best thing for us."

Prime Minister José dos Reis thanked the voters for their decision. "The people of Quetana had spoken and we will respect their decision," he said. "We've mentioned before that whatever the result of the referendum was, we will continue to stand with our allies against threats to our nation and to our interests."

Supporters of the Leave campaign expressed disappointment over the results. "We were sure that we will win," a Leave campaigner said. People's Party Leader Lourenço Cabral called for recounts in cities where electoral results had less than one percent differences.

"We want more accurate results to ensure that the people's voice are not being supressed," Cabral claimed. "Electoral fraud is an issue facing any democracy."

The margin of victory for the Remain campaign - 64% to 36% - was greater than the expected poll that put the votes at 56 - 44 in favor of remaining.

Elbresian court jails West Chanchajillan diplomat for 20 years over bomb plot

A court has convicted a West Chanchajillan diplomat for plotting a thwarted 2018 bombing of an exiled opposition group outside the Elbresian capital, Allengin, and ordered him jailed for 20 years.

Lead prosecution lawyers and civil parties to the prosecution on Thursday said the Neunach-based diplomat, Guiado Maloma, was guilty of attempted “terrorism” after a plot to bomb a rally of the National Council of Resistance of Socialists (NCRS) in June 2018 was foiled by Elbresian police.

“The ruling shows two things: A diplomat doesn’t have immunity for criminal acts … and the responsibility of the West Chanchajillan state and dictatorship of Frederick Armbar in what could have been carnage,” prosecution lawyer Henri Breath told reporters outside the court in Allengin.

The ruling marked the first trial of a foreign government official for suspected “terrorism” in Elbresia since the 1952 arrest of an Ivitean delegate who attempted to assassinate an Elbresian supreme court justice.

The court sentenced Maloma to 20 years in prison on Thursday, while West Chanchajilla’s foreign ministry “strongly condemned” the ruling, repeating its previous stance that it believes Maloma’s arrest and prosecution are illegal and violate the rules of the Coalition of Crown Albatross' Diplomatic Relations.

THOUSANDS OF QOLAYSIAN PROTESTERS STANDOFF WITH POLICE IN LEONRAU

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of the capital of Leonrau to denounce President Abiel Kennard and demand the release of jailed military generals, in the first such demonstration since the attempted coup d'état in December 2020. Kennard and his administration disbanded the military following the attempt, backed by a constitutional amendment that put the military under direct Presidential control. However, Kennard has not rescinded his control of the military or instated a new command structure, pushing protester's fears that Kennard is starting to organize himself in an authoritarian position.

“Military dictator, fail, fail; Democracy, win, win,” protesters chanted, calling for the President to free military officials and other leaders of the military-backed National Sovereign Democracy (NSD) party who have been detained since the coup.

Images and videos posted on social media on Sunday showed police blocking a major intersection of Insein Road and Jysana junction in Leonrau, as protesters attempt to march forward. Demonstrators peacefully chanted as their raised their hands in a three-finger salute. Drivers of private cars and public buses were also seen honking their horns as the standoff continued.

Kennard's government has tried to silence dissent by temporarily blocking social media sites in the face of the growing protest movement. Authorities ordered internet providers to deny access to popular sites “until further notice”. Demand for VPNs has soared in Qolaysia, allowing some people to evade the ban, but users reported more general disruption to mobile data services, which most people in the country of 24 million rely on for news and communications.

“We lost freedom, justice and urgently need democracy,” wrote one social media user. “Please hear the voice of Qolaysia.”

The government announced a one-year state of emergency and has promised to establish new elections, without giving a timeframe.

The coup attempt drew international condemnation with a Coalition of Crown Albatross Security Council (CCASC) referendum condemning the Qolaysian Armed Forces, but a new referendum this week calls for the release of all detainees and targeted sanctions under consideration by Tofino delegates.

General Hisan Ryansha, 55, has not been seen in public since being arrested following the December coup. The lawyer for Ryansha said he and other generals were being held in their homes and he was unable to meet them because they were still being questioned months after the fact. Ryansha is charged with attempt to overthrow the democratically elected government.

“Of course, we want unconditional release as they have not broken the law,” said the lawyer who is representing Ryansha.

Utobania to Construct a Renewable Energy Island in the Epsilon Sea

Utobania is to push forward with plans to build a huge artificial island in the Epsilon Sea that will act as a major renewable energy hub and cost billions of dollars to develop.

The Utobanian Energy Agency, part of the government’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, said Sunday the project would be owned by a public-private partnership, with the Utobanian state holding a majority stake.

The scale of the project, which will be located in waters 80 kilometers off the coast of Hillianbore, is considerable.

The first phase — set to have a capacity of 6 gigawatts (GW) — will involve approximately 400 offshore wind turbines sending electricity to the hub, which will distribute it to nearby countries via the grid.

In future, the capacity of the hub could be expanded to 20 GW. This, Utobanian authorities say, would be enough to power 30 million homes in Nortua. Depending on its final capacity, the island will cover an area between 220,000 and 560,000 square meters.

The estimated cost of building the artificial island, 20 GW of capacity and required transmission grid will amount to 210 billion Utobanian marks (Z$33.97 billion).

“The energy hub in the Epsilon Sea will be the largest construction project in Utobanian history,” Matthas Jørgensen, the Utobanian minister for climate, said in a statement.

“It will make a big contribution to the realization of the enormous potential for Nortuan offshore wind, and I am excited for our future collaboration with other Nortuan countries,” he added.

The project will now move forward, with Utobania's climate department entering into discussions with potential investors from the private sector. On the political front, conditions of the tender will be negotiated, new legislation passed and environmental impact assessments carried out.

In addition to the artificial island, a second energy hub of 2 GW is also being planned for the island of Koornholm, in the Nortua Sea.

Utobanian is something of a pioneer when it comes to offshore wind projects. The world’s first offshore wind farm, in waters near the Utobanian island of Hresland, was commissioned by Utarowar — the company formerly known as UOWF Energy — in 1991. Other Utobanian firms, such as turbine maker Besten, are major players in wind power.

ZAMASTANIAN EMBASSY IN TERVALI ISLANDS EVACUATED, AIRLIFTS CONDUCTED IN DARING OPERATION

TERVIUS - President Atticus Moreau on Sunday morning announced in a statement broadcast that 181 diplomatic staffers have been rescued from the Zamastanian consulate in the Tervali Islands capital of Tervius nearly three weeks after the government of the Tervali Islands and Prime Minister Lindsey Danielson-Mora were deposed in a coup. The Zamastanian Navy's 6th Fleet, operating out of the Holish Islands, manuevered to the Tervali archipeligo two weeks ago following the coup, and military officials had long been planning an operation to rescue the diplomatic staff, including Ambassador Aurore Boulanger.

President Moreau stated that around 2:30 AM Tervali time, a contingent of 22 helicopters from the aircraft carrier ZMS Belisarius flew into the seaside corporate district of Tervius, where the Zamastanian embassy is located near the city's waterline and only a short distance from the Assembly Hall and other government buildings in the area. Over a period of forty minutes, Zamastanian special forces created a perimeter around the embassy as the helicopters airlifted the embassy staff back to the 6th Fleet. Reports of gunfire came through Zamastanian communications during the operation, but no casualties were taken and all servicemen were accounted for following the rescue. All 181 staffers and Ambassador Boulanger are en route to the Holish Islands and will be flown back to Zamastan once they can aquire a charter plane.

The generals behind the operation applauded the servicemen for their valient effort and undertaking of the daring rescue, and President Moreau has stated that those who participated in the rescue will remain nameless for the time being due to security concerns, but that he has conversed with everyone involved and sent his direct congratulations.

Prime Minister Danielson-Mora and dozens of her ministers and staffers are residing in Zamastan after being granted asylum by the Zamastanian State Department. She was in Tregueux for the Coalition Leaders Summit in January when the coup occured, putting an unprecedented twist on the normally calm-minded diplomatic conference. The coup has thrown Zamastanian foreign policy into a new set of crisises, according to Secretary of State Jesaiah Vallotis, who stated that the "unfolding situation in Tervali has compromised a lot of Zamastanian efforts in Ausiana, including economics and security concerns."

One of the worries of the State Department was the use of thousands of Ruskaynian mercenaries, hired by the rebel military faction that undertook the coup. Ruskaynian mercenaries are not under direct control of the Ruskaynian government and operate as independent contracting forces. However, the coup has thrown immense international scrutiny to the Ruskayn government for a percieved lack of oversight to a force which has been responsible for thousands of combatant deaths on multiple sides of conflicts over the last many decades. Their use in the World War, for instance, came from a desperate situation of the Allied Forces paying contracting companies to undertake missions too risky for larger groups. Since the World War, however, Ruskaynian mercenaries have played multiple sides in conflicts, sometimes pitting their forces against Zamastanian troops.

"The incidents occuring in Tervali have emphasized the issue more," says Vallotis, "as Tervali and the Danielson-Mora government has been one of our closest allies in the region. The use of mercenaries from, what we consider to be, our closest ally geographically, is a major issue."

President Callum MacTavish of Ruskayn has condemned the coup, but has so far refused to comment on the use of mercenaries that assisted and perpetrated the coup. MacTavish and his ally, President Moreau, were noticibly distant during the funeral for former-President Quinn Werner last week. The divide between Ruskayn and Zamastan has never been more evident, and despite the close friendship their two governments share, it has become obvious that a clear diplomatic tension has been pressed between them.

LERBIN - Hasan al-Rahaim, the Executive Chairman of Emmirian oil giant KuyeOil, has been arrested in Emmiria and charged with involuntary manslaughter following an incident during a hunting exhibition. He reportedly shot and killed his Drambenburgian hunting guide, Mr. Joseph Peltzer, after misfiring his rifle during a hunt for popular big game trophy boar. Peltzer was shot in the head by al-Rahaim, and was airlifted to a Lerbin hospital where he was pronounced dead. Al-Rahaim was subsequently arrested and is being held without bond.

Due to Drambenburgian laws surrounding murder and manslaughter charges, al-Rahaim cannot be extradited to Emmiria until after his trial, and even then, it would require a grand jury repeal to allow his return to Emmiria. Emmirian politicians are already expressing their frustrations, demanding that Drambenburg send Mr. al-Rahaim back to Rhaga to be tried in an Emmirian court.

Hasan al-Rahaim will likely be held under house arrest, which experts say will be no issue for the billionaire. Mister al-Rahaim is ranked among the richest men in the world with a net worth of nearly Z$30 billion, attributed to his vast control network of the Emmirian oil industry, the historic royal house of Emmiria, and other sectors he has invested in. Lawyers for Mister al-Rahaim have stated they will consult with Drambenburgian law experts to navigate the foreign law sector.

This isn't the first time Hasan al-Rahaim has run into trouble with the law. Al-Rahaim confessed in 2019 to hiding Z$800m in losses at the Huye-based company drawing the charge of “abetment of forgery” that resulted in banks globally facing potential losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.

It is understood that al-Rahaim had an employee of KuyeOil forge papers used in the false awarding of Z$56 million in trade finance from an unnamed institution, although other possible offences may eventually cause this figure to rise.

While the Labor and Liberal party split the vote of the rural peasantry and students among them, the New National Party has firmly established itself in the center of politics in Zalluabed, able to take votes from both of its most likely competitors while simultaneously preventing those competitors from uniting on policy grounds in a combined electoral ticket.

75.3% of the vote in the legislative election went to the Conservative Party, giving them 30 seats in the Council of Representatives, a clear endorsement of the party. The next largest party, the Labor Party, secured 10% of the vote and 4 seats, while the Liberal League and New National Party both secured 10% giving them 3 seats each.

Although achieving the decisive landslide the Conservative Party had been hoping for, and the elections giving them a firm majority in the Parliament and retained control of the Presidency, there is already concern among many in the government and general public about voter fraud. President Zayyaan al-Akhtar, a staunch nationalist and proponent of a more government-controlled Zalluabed, has gained favor with the right wing of Zalluabed, who see rampant militarization and alliances with Buckingla, Drambenburg, and Qolaysia as key to Zalluabed's future. Zayyaan al-Akhtar also oversaw significant economic progress during his first term.

QOLAYSIAN TRADE MINISTRY INSISTS FOREIGN INVESTORS STILL KEEN DESPITE BLEAK CCA REPORT

LEONRAU - Qolaysia has said it remains attractive to investors despite a Coalition of Crown Albatross report showing it suffered the worst drop for foreign direct investment (FDI) in the region last year.

The Qolaysian Investment Development Authority (QIDA) and the Trade Ministry insisted on Monday (Feb 8th) that foreign investor confidence remained high despite the report in The Straits Times on Feb 4, which quoted the CCA Conference on Trade and Development (Ccactad) as saying that Qolaysia FDI plunged by more than two-thirds to just Z$2.5 billion (Q$3.3 billion) in 2020.

That represented more than double the average percentage fall for FDI in other South-east Adulan countries. The Ccactad figures was even more alarming when compared with other developing countries in Adulan, where the average decline was just 4 per cent.

"A lower net FDI is not necessarily an unfavourable sign," QIDA said in a statement, noting that the outflow mirrored the situation in 2009 during the Euronian sub-prime crisis.

"Multinational corporations in Qolaysia were repatriating higher amounts of their profits for loans repayments and retaining earnings to help their HQ and affiliates faced with financial difficulties," it added.

The investment promotion agency also said that for the first nine months of last year, the gross FDI inflow (not taking into account outflows) "into Qolaysia was valued at Q108.2 billion compared to Q102.3 billion in the same period in 2019, an increase of 5.8 per cent".

Experts blame the dismal FDI figures on growing political instability and policy uncertainty ever since the attempted coup d'etat by the military in December of 2020. President Abiel Kennard, who disbanded the military command and passed a constitutional referendum to control the military by executive control, has been able to shore up his minority government, the first in the country, after declaring an emergency in January. It will last until August.

Just days before the government declared the emergency, the Finance Minister boasted of "investors' continued confidence in Qolaysia".

"We currently receive a lot of concerns regarding Qolaysia as a viable investment destination. Until today, the honourable minister was not even able to meet with us and listen to the concerns of our corporations. Without these inputs, your ministry certainly cannot address the problems on the ground. Besides, it really needs more than a few nice words and window dressing," said Finance Ministry chief executive Byan Fyannard.

Although trade associations have rarely criticised Qolaysia's government directly in the past, QIDA says "the views of the Coalition may not necessarily reflect the views of all its members".

North Icadania Shoots Down Syrarantoan Fighter Jet On Border

Icadanian warplanes have shot down a Syraranto military aircraft on the border with Syraranto. Chancellor Gianni Roussilis said the fighter, a SAF22, was hit by air-to-air missiles fired by Icadanian fighters while it was flying over North Icadanian territory. But Syrarantoan military officials said the plane was engaged before being warned that it was violating Icadanian airspace.

Syraranto President Kyraikos Tasoulas described the incident as a "stab in the back" committed by "accomplices of terrorists".

The crew ejected before the jet crashed, but Syrarantoan rebels said at least one was dead. It is the fourth time a Syrarantoan aircraft has been shot down by North Icadania since the Tasoulas regime started the civil war between the government and dozens of rebel groups.

Vuswistan, the CCA mandated watchdog for the civil war, said it was following the situation "closely" and was in contact with the North Icadanian authorities. There will be an "informational meeting" of ambassadors in Tyrntini at 16:00 GMT.

This is exactly the kind of incident that many have feared since North Icadania began backing rebel forces in Northern Syraranto. The dangers of operating near to the border have been all too apparent. North Icadanian planes have already bombed at least one Syrarantoan tank and possibly have shot down a helicopter as well.

It suggests that the much discussed arrangements to avoid incidents between warplanes over Syraranto are inadequate. The North Icadanian authorities will no doubt claim that such arrangements do not cover the approaches to their own airspace where tried and tested procedures should apply.

There are conflicting reports as to whether it was ground fire or Icadanian jets that brought down the Syrarantoan plane. Air operations in the crowded skies over Syraranto just got a good deal more complicated. The only mitigating factor is that initial reports suggest that two parachutes were seen so the Syraranto crew at least got out of their stricken aircraft. Expect diplomatic fireworks.

MOREAU WANTS TO CUT FOREIGN TROOP DEPLOYMENTS IN HALF OVER NEXT YEAR

TOFINO - President Moreau announced on Monday, prior to his Congressional address Tuesday night, that the number of Zamastanian troops abroad will be halved over the next 12 months, pledging that “our foreign deployment will be limited” by the end of 2022.

The president said he will withdraw 134,000 troops by this time next year, at which point about 134,000 Zamastanian military personnel will be left deployed across the world. He pledged that “this drawdown will continue” throughout 2021, although the final target has not been determined.

“Tonight, we stand united in saluting the troops and civilians who sacrifice every day to protect us,” Moreau said. “Because of them, we can say with confidence that Zamastan will continue its mission to protect our interests abroad in a new age of the world.”

Administration officials said Moreau's decision is line with a recommendation from Gen. Avery Reynolds, who had been the top Zamastanian and WEDA commander in foreign deployments until Sunday with his resignation. Reynolds submitted a set of withdrawal options to the president several weeks ago, the officials said, and the general’s “preferred option” was to pull out 134,000 troops by February 2022.

“What we chose was his recommendation,” a Presidetial Mansion official said.

But other commanders, including Reynolds' soon-to-be replacement, have favored a slower withdrawal, according to Zamastanian officials briefed by senior officers involved in operations around the world.

Gen. Lester Allen, who will be Reynolds' replacement, had been seeking a reduction of no more than 25,000 troops this year, leaving about 243,000 deployed across the world. There are worries that escalating tensions in the Albarine and Emmirian Seas, terror threats in Jaginistan, the civil war in Syraranto, and the deposing of the government of the Tervali Islands highlights a need for more troops, not less, according to a senior Zamastanian official aligned with the military leadership.

“This is steeper than we had hoped for,” the official said. “Pulling out 134,000 leaves us dangerously low on military personnel while our allies and interests abroad still need our support. It’s going to send a clear signal that Zamastan's commitment to our allies and the Coalition is going wobbly.”

But many of the president’s top civilian national security advisers believe that removing half of the troops in the next 12 months will leave enough forces abroad to help provide security and coverage for Zamastanian interests.

These advisers cited two other important issues in determining the pace of the withdrawal, which must be largely complete by the end of 2022. First, they would like to reduce the financial burden of the Zamastanian military presence abroad, which costs about $1 million a year for each service member. Second, they are looking for as much time as possible to meet the logistical challenge of removing troops and equipment from 37 bases in 14 countries, although only six bases will be permanently closed and the other bases will be downgraded.

Even military officers acknowledge that it would be difficult to withdraw large numbers of forces, a process that involves closing six bases and shipping material through several nations, in just one year.

Alcarresean president, Akkin Gunaydin, has said he would seek a “high profile” government, as speculation grew that it may be led by the former Central Adula Bank chief Mateo Survachev.

Gunaydin made the announcement after ruling coalition partners failed to form a majority following Zoran Mikilovich’s tenure as prime minister became marred in scandal surrounding his activities with the CATA legislative functions.

Gunaydin said he was left with two choices: either call snap elections or nominate a technical government (one consisting of appointed technocrats rather than elected representatives) to manage the country’s economic and social challenges.

He did not say who he would pick to lead the government, but Survachev – known for his role in saving the CATA organization in the early 2000s – has been summoned to meet Gunaydin on Wednesday. The move follows days of speculation in the Alcarres press about Survachev's possible appointment as a technical prime minister.

The reason for this move was explained by Zhirkov “We need to start making partners with nations on the four continent, it will significantly help the economy and that we are also open to investments by countries that are interested.”

Another journalist asked if they have a shortlist of preferred countries that Kossmil wants to make trades deals with and also open embassies, which Zhirkov replied with “Of course, we do have a list of preferred countries that we want a trade with but we are open with any country. Long enough the deal is good, that is all.” With this relevance another question was asked of nations with human rights violations or nations in the middle of a crisis with examples pointing to Tervali Islands for their recent coup of their own government or West Chanchajilla and Yuan for their human right violations. Zhirkov simply replied with “We would rather not make statements on other countries' human rights or crises. I like to repeat that we are open to any deal by any country, long enough it helps the people of Kossmil at the end.”

Zhirkov answered a final question from one of the journalists and that was about the upcoming election, more specifically on the date of the election or the candidates for the presidential seat. “I can’t really disclose the date of the election or candidates, sorry.” From reports, it been suggests that there will be at least four or five candidates for the elections, two are already members of the interim government which are rumoured to be prime minister Nikolai Cherdenko who founded the Conservative Party and deputy prime minister Anton Krukov who founded the People's Party after leaving the Conservative Party. The other two candidates have announced themselves to be running for president but the government has not confirmed it. The candidates are Stanislav Safonov, General Secretary of the recently formed Kossmil Coummist Party and General Sergey Shepunov of the Patriots Party. The upcoming election will be the most important in Kossmil history as it could define Kossmil destiny.

Pieters pledges federal funding for Courbagne's subway extension

The federal government has pledged money for a subway extension in Courbagne's east end, further muddying the waters on an already confused transit planning process.

The announcement included no information on the amount of funding or any conditions that may be attached. More details are expected Thursday, setting the stage for another battle over where in Sorough the transit line should run and raising questions about New Elkland's plan to go it alone with a self-funded subway along a different route of its own choosing.

"The Finance Minister and I, subject of course to the normal approvals process, have set aside funds to ensure the financing of Courbagne's plan for the Sorough subway extension," President Lionel Pieters said at what had been billed as a photo opportunity. "I think this is good news for commuters, who obviously continue to face the challenges of gridlock."

He was joined by Mayor Alexander Valendigo, a long-time proponent of subways, who was beaming as he left the event. Also on display was a map showing the route for a Sorough extension that resembled the plan approved by city council this summer. The New Elkland government as a majority prefers a different route.

"Pleased all levels of government – federal, provincial, municipal – are working together to build Council-approved transit for Courbagne," Courbagne Transit Commission chair Karmichael Baron posted in response, adding later: "I applaud the Federal gov't for recognizing the importance of building the Sor. subway. TO needs a transit network."

But the announcement raises a number of questions, including whether the government's contribution will amount to the E660-million council said it needed, when it backed the plan this summer, and whether this is new money or funds taken from another transit project.

There was no opportunity to ask these questions of Mr. Pieters as reporters were kept out of the announcement. Followup inquiries to the President's office, the mayor's press secretary and the Finance Minister's office were not answered.

Further complicating the issue, the provincial government said after the council vote that it had waited long enough and would move ahead unilaterally. The province's plan – to build a shorter subway extension along a different route than the one supported by council and now the federal government – is being studied by the CTC and a feasibility report is expected this week.

Provincial Transportation Minister Gerent Murray has repeatedly castigated federal level of transit funding. In recent weeks, he has said that federal support for a Sorough subway extension could allow it to go further. But he insists the route is firm.

"If other governments bring money to the table there is lots to invest in," Mr. Murray said Sunday evening in a series of text messages. "We have laid out our commitment to extend the subway from Macomall to [Sorough City Centre]. If some gov't wants to add to our commitment in Sorough that is good news."

AN ANALYSIS OF PRESIDENT MOREAU'S CONGRESSIONAL ADDRESS

TOFINO - President Moreau delivered his first Congressional Address since assuming office on Tuesday night to the first liberal party-controlled Congressional Hall since 2012. He issued a ringing call for government to take the lead in rebuilding an economy that works for all Zamastanians and to revive the promise of more cooperative politics that carried him to the Presidency in September of 2020. While many of the specific measures he urged are likely to resonate with the public, it remains to be seen whether he can persuade the majority of Zamastanians to set aside their long-festering mistrust of government and give him a mandate to pursue an aggressive policy agenda, especially with a declining rate of popularity for President Moreau.

The context prior to entering the speech is essential to understand. Moreau has been criticized for his economic policies, which has led to a stagnant economy with little growth in the final quarter of 2020 and a slight decrease in the first months of 2021. That's not to say that the economy is bad, but it is showing signs of significantly slower development than Moreau's predecesors. Secondly, Moreau has been criticized for his foreign policy, only yesterday announcing that Zamastanian troop deployments would be halved globally by the end of 2022. Additionally, he has not been able to bring a comprehensive plan to ceasing or moderating the civil war in Syraranto, tensions in the Emmiria Sea and Tarijar Strait, and a string of terror attacks against major allies by Al-Fijar. Moreau did score a win, though, on Sunday with the rescue of all 181 diplomatic staffers at the Tervali Islands embassy in Tervius.

Thirdly, President Moreau is seen by his critics as anti-Zamastanian. As a member of Bloc Mayotte, he has openly supported provincial rights to the point of secession, which is exactly what happened with the Provinces of Mayotte, Aunistria, and Alutia (the latter two now called Auraine and Alutiana). The ruling of the Supreme Court in Bettencourt vs Government of Zamastan cemented the right of provinces to declare independence and break away from the Republic, which experts have stated is one of the most concerning issues regarding Moreau's presidency thus far.

So, what did President Atticus Moreau talk about in his Address?

ECONOMY

Toward the beginning of his speech, Moreau offered his account of our recent economic history. Even before the recession, he said, jobs began going overseas while wages and incomes for most Zamastanians were stagnating. And then the crisis hit, sparked by mortgages sold to people who couldn’t afford them, inadequately regulated financial institutions who made bad bets with other people’s money, and the devaluing of the De Yuan currency. He reminded the country that in the three months before he took office, the economy lost four million jobs, and another four million in the early months of his presidency. Since then, however, the private sector—led by manufacturing – has created millions of new jobs. And so, he concluded, “The state of the Republic is getting stronger. And we’ve come too far to turn back now.” Rather than changing course, the task before us is to “build on this momentum.”

In broad terms, Moreau is betting on the continued revival of Zamastanian manufacturing, backed by targeted public investments in sectors such as clean energy and infrastructure. As he has before, he called for a major effort in the areas of education and training as well as support for basic research. While globalization is here to stay, he added, we cannot allow our competitors to victimize us with unfair trade practices, and he advocated a new Trade Enforcement Coalition that will be charged with investigating “unfair trade practices in countries like De Yuan and Drambenburg.” And to accelerate domestic job creation, he urged corporate tax reform that ends subsidies for outsourcing while reducing taxes for companies that remain, and hire, in Zamastan.

Moreau invoked a country and economy where “everyone gets a fair shot, everyone does their fair share, and everyone plays by the same set of rules.” Symbolizing these principles, he called for tax reforms that follow a "millionare rule", saying “If you make more than Z$1 million a year, you should not pay less than 30 percent in taxes.” At the same time, the president virtually dropped the theme of inequality which he has long been a proponent of addressing in previous speeches. This was a wise shift: in Zamastan’s public culture, the principle of fair opportunity is more powerful than is equality of wealth and income.

FOREIGN POLICY

Moreau called upon Zamastanians and the international community to protect the planet from further climate change. “Some folks try to dodge the evidence by saying they’re not scientists,” Moreau said. “But a lot of really good scientists work for me, and I believe what they say. The people in this congress should believe it too.” He warned of rising ocean levels, more intense heat waves, and perilous droughts and floods, vowing, “I will not let this Congress endanger that health of our children by turning back the clock on our efforts.”

And in the wake of a global crackdown on terror, President Moreau also took aim against the “bankrupt ideology of violent extremism.”

“Tonight, I call on this legislature to show the world that we are united in this mission by passing a resolution to authorize the use of force against Al-Fijar,” Moreau said – his strongest terms to date. Last October, Moreau authorized the killing of Al-Fijar leader Mukhtar Babu Ubair, for which he was praised by supporters and criticized by critics for not consulting with Congressional Hall. The president – earlier this month criticized for failing to appear at a unity rally following terror attacks in Quetana – promised to "stand united with people around the world who've been targeted by terrorists," and warned, "we reserve the right to act unilaterally ... to take out terrorists who pose a direct threat to us and our allies."

He also called for stronger cyber-security, following a spate of high-profile breaches. “No foreign nation, no hacker, should be able to shut down our networks, steal our trade secrets, or invade the privacy of Zamastanian families.We need to better meet the evolving threat of cyber-attacks, combat identity theft, and protect our children’s information. Otherwise, our nation and our economy is vulnerable."

OTHER TOPICS

President Moreau also touched on various topics aside the economy and foreign policy. He noted the scheduled launch of Operation Courage, which will send astronauts to Eirus with a launch in June and an arrival to the planet in 2022 to establish the first ever extreterrestrial colony. "This mission isn't a mission for Zamastan. It's a mission for the world. It's a mission for the future of mankind. And the brave astronauts from an international coalition will embark into the stars and carry on humanity in a completely new environment. A fresh start on the long road of history, to pave it further for our future."

The President acknowledged that a torrent of change, technological advances and economic dislocation has left many Zamastanians fearful of the future and anxious as social structures that have underpinned the life of the nation for decades fray. But he urged them not to fall prey to the periodic temptation that has emerged throughout history to alienate minorities and resist social change.

“There have been those who told us to fear the future every moment it approaches. These people claimed we could hit the brakes on change, promising to restore past glory if we just got some group or idea that was threatening Zamastan under control,” Moreau said. “And each time, we overcame those fears.”

In his concluding statement, Moreau said "Zamastan is still the greatest country on this world. It is the land of plenty, the land of freedom, the land of liberty, and the land of continuing hopes and dreams. I haven't given up on Zamastan, and even through our most difficult moments, I know Zamastanians will always rise to the challenge. We always have, and we always will. From the bombs that fell on us in the World War, to the families who don't know where their paycheck will come from or where they'll get their meal, we are in this as one country. Divided only in rhetoric, but unified as a common family who shares love for the nation we live in. Thank you, and God bless Zamastan."

Al-Azari Names Akram Sulaiman as Preferred-Successor
Sulaiman is Emmiria's Current Trade and Commerce Minister

RHAGA - Outgoing President Khayahad al-Azari has submitted his proposal for the line of succession to the National Assembly and the Emmirian Consultative Assembly, naming Trade and Commerce Minister Akram Sulaiman as his preferred replacement.

"Akram Sulaiman," al-Azari said, "is an upstanding individual who will no-doubt propel our glorious nation to great heights."

Sulaiman is not the immediate deciding factor for the Presidency of the Islamic Republic, as his entrance in consideration is merely that; consideration. The National Assembly will hold a referendum on Thursday to decide who will be President on February 13th, and there are multiple names in contention. Among these names is current Foreign Minister Naadir al-Shaikh, former-Binhir Tech executive Kaamil el-Eid, and even, for the first time in Emmirian history, a woman legislative ambassador named Naqiyya Rahman.

Al-Azari's influence in the National Assembly, though, cannot be understated. He is leaving office with exceptionally high approval ratings in a nation where elected officials rarely win reelection. Al-Azari has won reelection three times, to the presidency no less.
