It's the year 2050, The bloodshed that is the reunification wars have finally ended, and earth is under the total control of the United Nations, forming one massive world order, yet still. Corporations have a massive influence over the world, bribing politicians And Hiring mercenaries to perform shady contracts- while their PR agencies Slings Accusations at Other corporations, Blaming them for such Illegal activities.

And then

Space travel

The Last remaining governments not under corporate influences's Top scientists Poured Hours, Days, Months into Prototypes of Vessels and Aircraft that are capable of Travelling in Space, and they succeeded. Only for their Work to be Stolen by mercenaries hired by the AERODYNE corporation, Adapting these Blueprints of the vessels, And Introduced the first commercially available Spaceship.


And now..it's the final days of the year 2059

Corporations are rivaling each other With design after design, Variant after Variant. But no competition could Beat what the DARKSKI Corporation has planned for the future of space travel.

Artificial wormholes

Their vessels could generate artificial wormholes that can transport the vessel to the nearest solar system, And as soon as you know it. All of the Aerospace Corporations are Selling Spaceships capable of wormhole travel, Effectively lowering the price.

Then, Larger ships capable of wormhole travel are being onstructed

The TYPEMAX corporation Invents the third, and last wonder of the decade-
The Mutiversal Fabracarion Material
Contianed within a Metal cube, The MFM might not look like much, but if you place enough of these units into one of TYPEMAX's special fabricators, You can create anything.
Buildings, Weapons, Ships, Armor, Clothes. The MFM's special [CLASSIFIED] Can change its texture, durability, and Other properties, and it stays that way once the item has been fabricated

Be it Purchasing one Through Legal means, or stealing one By infiltrating and hijacking dome poor Sap's Vessel, You've managed to Get a medium-sized starship, Gathered a Fairly decent fleet. And set off, as one of the first into the great unknown.

For the Earth might be plagued with Megacities and concrete jungles, It might be bearing the taint of corruption, it might be suffering from a seeming unstoppable wave of crime and degeneracy, but there will always be the darkness, that is....

OOC
SPACE: Redux is the result of 2 things, Hindsight, And Democracy.
Hindsight, because I realized that the original mechanics of SPACE were too complex, and I could just Tone it down a notch, while still preserving the feeling of ruling a part of a new, dark frontier.
And democracy, because the Poll I did in the Original OOC.
Overall, I Hope that the improvements of Space: Redux will work out, and I'll certainly do a few tweaks here and there to fix stuff, but for now, I'll see you in space.

Is a Large map of all star systems discovered by UN probes in the past, All Vessles that has a wormhole generator has a onboard sensor that can transmit live information back to UN comms centers back on earth, thus creating a map with a live display of any threats, or Presence of Factions in the galaxy

MFM processors can churn out MFM at a rate of 10/Day, whilst eating up 2 resources per unit of MFM

In order to forcibly relocate planets into your possession, you need soldiers

I am... more than a little confused about the mechanics.



Here's my application; it's still technically a work-in-progress until I make the necessary images, but all the substantive content is there so it should be good enough for review.

Inspiration vaguely from Civilisation: Beyond Earth, but I also played Per Aspera recently and wanted to come up with a faction nickname that was also a pun. :p NSS-"Nessie" took a bit of creative effort.

Name of Faction: Formally the North Sea Society, but often called the Nessies.

Name of Leader: Savannah Strand, Director of the Strategic Committee

Description of Leader's Physical Appearance: Savannah Strand has a comely and inoffensive appearance, something that helped her greatly during her meteoric rise to power at a relatively young age, charming the public and letting her opponents underestimate her. She is slightly taller than average, has a fast metabolism, and consequently shows a natural inclination towards a thin, almost gangly appearance. She thus exercises regularly and deliberately eats more than her fill to keep up a down-to-earth, plebeian appearance and avoid looking too delicate or refined. Dirty blonde hair with a tinge of red frame a roundish face of Scottish pink dotted with bright green eyes.

Bio: The North Sea Society is the result of 21st Century internet politics and rising tensions between the victors of the Cold War and those opposing the New World Order that those victors attempted to implement. Populist fearmongering over the Russian boogeyman in the aftermath of the Virumaa Crisis of 2024, strong anti-immigrant sentiment in the face of increasing economic hardship, and strengthening megacorporate dominance over the North Sea's economy and politics resulted in the consolidation of the British Isles' and the Nordic Region's multinational corporations, state institutions, civil society, and national churches into one monstrous colossus with undefined, and therefore unlimited, scope and purpose. It is a megacorporation, member state of the United Nations, old boys' club, and religious cult all at once. It is a society that is both liberal democracy and totalitarian nightmare, both honestly transparent and corrupt to the core.

The nickname - either affectionate or pejorative, depending on who you ask - given to the inhabitants of this new Society, "Nessies", is a play on the abbreviation of the name North Sea Society, NSS, a comment on the closed and secretive nature of the Society, and a reference to the Loch Ness monster, the famous Scottish cryptid. The inhabitants of the North Sea Society are notoriously xenophobic - although this xenophobia often exhibits itself as a condescending sense of patronising superiority rather than outright hatred - and it is unusual to find a North Sea Society inhabitant outside of its main territory and its branch offices scattered around the world's major cities. This led to some people commenting that North Sea Society sightings were as rare as Loch Ness monster sightings, hence the nickname "Nessies". Eventually, perhaps due to "North Sea Society inhabitant" being an unwieldy phrase and there being no clear alternative demonym, this nickname stuck, even among the Nessies themselves.

Of course, with the Society flooding half the world with covert agents in constant paranoia of the outside world - trashing its diplomatic reputation in the process, as corporations and governments both dislike being spied upon - people who believe that they have never seen a Nessie may not necessarily be right...

Doctrine: Scientia potentia est. The natural advantage of the North Sea Society is in espionage and reconnaissance, and the North Sea Society focuses on playing to its strengths more than covering its weaknesses. Its doctrine in confrontations with other powers, whether that confrontation be economic, cultural, military, or legal in nature, is to know the enemy better than they do themselves and hammer away at their tactical, operational, and strategic weaknesses until they collapse.

Faction Flag: The banner of the North Sea Society is a sky blue square inscribed in a sky blue annulet and connected to it by two sky blue horizontal lines, all set against a background of midnight black.

No offence meant, OP, but I think you'll draw many more people into the RP if you had a bit more professionally-written original post on this OOC thread. Have you considered nagging G-Tech into proofreading and editing it? :p

Well, considering the R-Type RP I tried to launch failed miserably and I've been meaning to get back into RPing for a long time, I might join.

Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?

Well, the setting is that the UN now effectively rules over the whole world, so you can take a gander around the United Nations geoscheme, which is the closest thing that the powerless UN of real life has to administrative subdivisions...

I myself came up with yet another spin on the Northern European concept, which I suppose by now wouldn't surprise you anymore. :p This time the concept is closed society.

The weapons in SPACE are your standard High-caliber assult rifles and high-power grenades.

Fighters are Armed with autocannons and missles.

Frigates are Armed with Missle launchers and Cannons.

Destroyers are Armed with torpedo launchers and Cannons.

Cruisers are Armed with Bigger Cannons, Missles, AND torpedoes

Battle Cruisers's Bow(s) is reinforced, so it can Become a Battering ram, It is armed with Missles And Cannons

Dreadnaughts Can transport and launch Fighters, They are Armed with Autocannons, Even bigger Cannons, Missles, Torpedos, And experimental Beam emitters

Actually, on second thoughts, G-Tech, you feel like tying out backstories together a bit? That way we can hopefully skip the usual start to faction RPs, where people just feel each other out establishing their initial relations. Let me know if you'd like that and if you have any specific ideas along that front.

The Emitter's targeting system locks on to a enemy vessel

The Emitter will fire and and Martian a laser beam at the target for several seconds

I'm just thinking about what to play as.
Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?

Name of Leader: Isaac Ernskein
Leader Appearance: Isaac is a slight man, with a wiry appearance, somewhat undertall, and sallow in the face. His hair is blonde, graying now into a mop of off-white. His eyes, however, are a piercing ice-blue, and show no signs of his advanced age. The oldworld pinstripe suit he favors is well tailored, and his muscles are surprisingly well defined for a man of his antiquity.
Faction Biography: GreenWorld is a strange organization, more of a corporate state than a company, in truth. She made her fortune in the wake of the Great Crash in 2030, where declining worldwide birthrates caused extensive economic upheaval. Founded by a curious mix of Japanese concerns, evangelical Christian pressure groups, and some dubious money out of Germany and Switzerland, GreenWorld was nominally designed to crack biological cloning, particularly in humans. In this capacity she succeeded. In no small part the current overpopulated state of Earth is due, ironically, to her breakthroughs. Natalism was all the rage, natalism for economic benefit, natalism for democratic power, natalism for security in case of nuclear war. As Mao once famously boasted, and the world realized in the instability of the 2040s, if a nuclear exchange happens, she with the largest population would survive most fulsomely. This was a point proven, over and over again, by the Reunification Wars. And driven home by the invention of the warp drive. After all - space needed people to extract her resources, people her factories, survive her mistakes. And she with the most men would be victorious in space as well.
Doctrine: Supremacy through numbers - and not a small bit of genetic engineering. Mankind is not suited to space, after all. But she can be.

Name of Faction: ARES Paramilitary Coalition (more commonly referred to as APC or ARES)

Name of Leader: Lord-Admiral Konrad Blackmore

Description of Leader's physical appearance: Konrad stands at an imposing 7'8" with a very muscular bodily definition. His right eye has been replaced with a robotic eye that glows red, and most of that side of his face is covered by strong, lightweight alloy plating. A neurally grafted and integrated "exoskeleton" of sorts is present on the outside of his body, mimicking human bone and joint structure. His fair skin (at least what's left of it) contrasts greatly with his usual black and gold attire, consisting of a high-collared greatcoat and a captain's hat. His physical size combined with sharp, military-esque dressing gives him a stately and intimidating look. His presence is commanding and every word he speaks from his partially synthesized voice box resonates with conviction, a quality that appropriately complements his appearance.

Bio: The ARES Paramilitary Coalition is the end result of a variety of factors compiled over two decades, stemming from the Reunification Wars and catalyzed by technological advancement. At the end of the Reunification Wars, many were disgruntled and angry with the fact that Earth was now governed by a single entity, and said people resorted to terroristic movements in order to combat what they saw as a threat. Most of these movements were quickly squashed and rendered footnotes in the history of humankind, but a few remained that simply could not be stomped out of existence like the others. One such group were the predecessors to ARES, and like their modern-day incarnation, they were organized, extremely well-equipped, and had superb tacticians directing their campaigns. When huge strides were made in the areas of cybernetic augmentation and genetic modification, these terrorists practically jumped all over the new technology, heavily implanting and and modifying themselves with an ultimate end goal: self-evolution.

With the advent of space colonization and the wide availability of space travel having become a reality in the 2050s, the terrorists took to the stars. Their ideology had morphed from simple discontentment with the UN victory to a separatist movement justified by their self-perceived superiority over the rest of the human race. It would be in 2051 that ARES was officially founded, and immediately, they began construction of a war fleet on Mars. Mostly utilizing captured or incomplete vessels taken from shipyards, the ARES factories manufactured armaments and armor for said ships. The designs produced in these factories were entirely the brainchild of the ARES scientists, and far outclassed most weaponry of the time, as the UN was bound by several statutes and treaties on what it could and couldn't deploy on the field of battle. Groups like ARES, however, ignore the law in the first place, and such statutes do not apply to them.

In 2054, ARES had completed a small but powerful fleet, armed with the latest developments in weapons and propulsion technology. The radical group, now an organized and highly dangerous military force, carried out their mission across the Solar System. For two years, the ARES fleet roamed the interplanetary stretches of space, wreaking havoc and mayhem wherever they went. Whoever they fought, they smashed to pieces. The tactical advantage of their cybernetics in ground warfare was also worthy of note, as it increased the survivability and deadliness of foot soldiers. By this time, the ARES fighters were fully self-sufficient on board their ships, living completely in space with no need for a home base of any kind. The conflict with ARES came to a head in 2056 with the Titan Holocaust. The Titan Holocaust was a devastating event in which the ARES fleet appeared over Saturn's moon Titan in the group's first offensive against a settlement of any kind on any celestial body. In the first phase of the attack, the vessels in orbit sent down foot soldiers and ground vehicles, armed to the teeth and coming in a force that the meagre colonial defenses couldn't possibly resist. The ground offensive succeeded in destroying most settlements and killing nearly 40% of Titan's population. By the time the nearest UN military vessels were alerted to the events unfolding, it was too late for them to save many of the moon's inhabitants. A further 20% of Titan's original population were killed through bombardment of the remnants of cities, escalating the final death toll to 60% of the original population. The attack was finally stopped when the UN showed up en masse, initiating a battle that succeeded in destroying most of the small ARES fleet, pushing the remnants of the group to the fringes for the next 3 years.

In the years leading up to the invention of FTL travel in 2059, the remnants of ARES remained mostly inactive in any effort to violently subvert the current societal order. Instead, they had retreated to an outpost on the distant and as of then uncolonized Neptunian moon of Triton, and had sent covert operatives out to attempt to radicalize and recruit new fighters. As well as this, ARES made efforts to amass the materials needed to build another space fleet. Over the next 2 years, they succeeded in both endeavors. The turnout for recruitment was much higher than expected, and the process of manufacturing new ships equipped with the latest tech had gone smoothly. By 2059, ARES was almost returned to its former might, albeit slightly weaker and with a much smaller fleet than the last one. However, these ships were of entirely new designs, with each serving a specific purpose and wielding incredible destructive power. It was then that ARES-aligned corporate spies had uncovered something extraordinary: the invention of an artificial wormhole generator by the DARKSKI corporation. Quick action was taken to acquire enough drives to power their fleet, and soon after the public revelation of wormhole travel, several drives were reported stolen from the DARKSKI factory. These stolen drives were then fitted to the now-completed fleet consisting of a flagship Battlecruiser, two Destroyers, and four Frigates as well as a complement of fighters, orbit-to-ground transports, and infantry mechs (non-capital ships are NOT fitted with wormhole drives). Shortly thereafter, the small research base established on Triton by that time reported several man-made objects taking off from below the frigid moon's surface, which very quickly executed a wormhole jump, departing Triton for Earth. It had begun. The second crusade to further an agenda of transhumanist supremacy would now reach across the stars in ARES' effort to exterminate all they deem unworthy of existence.

Doctrine: All who choose to remain in their natural organic form are considered inferior and worthy only of destruction. ARES is a highly militarized transhumanist supremacy group with an inexplicable lust for war and combat. Everyone who aligns themselves with the radical group is very heavily augmented both genetically and biomechanically, enabling many abilities not naturally present in humans. It is their belief that they alone represent what humanity's future should be, and that it is their duty to exterminate all who do not subscribe to this viewpoint, a duty that their combatants have show near-religious devotion to. ARES believes that nothing should stand in the way of scientific advancement, and as such they are not anti-intellectual like many groups devoted to a radical cause, possessing some of the most advanced knowledge in the entire human race, but it is knowledge that is used only for the skewed goals of ARES.

Three applications up so far and we already have three radically different visions for spacefaring human society. I like this. :p I'll also note that we vaguely have G-Tech's zerg (complete with the superior numbers and genetic playground), my terrans (complete with well-rounded adaptability), and Mercatus' protoss (complete with their weird abilities). I might want to flesh out my faction's and my character's backstories a bit more as well, hmm...

Of course, the Nessie vision of a supervised society is naturally superior to the other two and is, indeed, the only sane path forwards into the future, but let's not waste time re-hashing obvious trivialities that we all already know. ;)



It bothers me on some level that the map grid is hexagonal, but the playing field is a rectangle and not a hexagon/circle.
