I think the Triangles and circle are potentially good design elements. You could perhaps keep the head and frame it within the circle, keeping the detail (not necessarily a hard silhouette).

I would like the Gran Colombia tricolor with the Old Zealand fern (just the fern of course) on top of it. I have a feeling there will be an issue regarding the white and the yellow, so do whatever makes it look better to you. Don't rush it; it's not of utmost importance right now.
