ODI World Trophy II – OOC thread

Welcome to signups for the second GCF ODI World Trophy, the multiverse's primary One Day International tournament under the GCF banner.

Signups and host bids should be posted in this thread, simply by saying "We sign up" or similar. Host bids will only be entertained from users who have previously participated in a GCF event (the World T20, GCF ODI World Trophy, or a GCF Test season) and shown an understanding for the game of cricket. Previous host experience is encouraged.

In your host bid, please indicate how you intend to score the games (including information on whether any scorination files have been modified from anything publicly available), what format you will use, and what tiebreakers you will use. IC information, while welcome, is less relevant. New scorinators may be subject to approval from the GCF.

Puppet signups will only be entered at the discretion of the eventual host(s). There is a maximum of one puppet per user, and you must have previously entered a GCF event (the World T20, GCF ODI World Trophy, or a GCF Test season) to enter a puppet.

The deadline for host bids is Friday, 22 January 2021, at 20:00 UTC, after which there will be a host vote. Host voting suffrage will be open to any nation signed up for the tournament which is also a GCF Test full or associate ranked member or that participated the inaugural GCF ODI World Trophy.

NS Stats are not canon(See factbook for more info). Nation does not represent RL views. IC Name for all other RPs: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. IC Name for NS Sports ONLY: Sannyamathland. Currently undergoing major restructuring. So factbooks and other settings may change.

Silvedania, the majestic nation.
NS Stats are mostly accurate except for a few things, like this nation is capitalist and the death penalty isn't in effect

News:All trade with Crabaiaia and Pikala has stopped as diplomats meet in Trenaka. Silvedanians are confused by Quentin Tarantulatino's new film, Seasonal Snackbox(This is a Bojack Horseman reference.) Weird song goes viral for making no sense.

Many thanks to Garbelia for creating a logo!

The Holy Wenaist Sultanate of Gruenberg is bidding to host the tournament.

Format

The format here is going to be slightly vague as we are currently on an uncomfortable 21 signups and I’ve erred before in assuming a convenient number will magically appear.

Group stage: Single round robin group stage of same-sized groups, randomly drawn from seeded pots. (Numbers puppets, or the exclusion of puppets [including my own] possible in order to make the numbers fit.)

Super group stage: The top two or three from each group, depending on group size and number, will progress to a single round robin super group where they will play each other team except the teams they already played in the group stage. The final table from the super group will include those group stage matches but no other group stage results. (So for example: Teams A, B, C and D are in the group stage. A and B progress to the super group. The result of AvB counts towards the super group standings; the results of AvC or BvD do not.)

(Semi)-finals: The top team from the super group stage will play the fourth seed and the second and third seeds will play one another; the winner of each semi-final will play in the final and loser of each will play in the 3PPO.

In both group and super group stages, the tiebreakers will be, in order: points, wins, net run rate, head to head results, drawing of lots. I will create a wiki template to make calculating NRR more straightforward. I will create a super over file similar to the T20 one for breaking of ties in the (semi)-finals.

Scorination

Dissatisfied with the low scoring rate of the current ODI paradigm compared to RL, I have modified the ODI file to change the meanrunrate from 4.88 to 5.40, and corrected, to the best of my slightly wonky approximations, the other numbers around these. I ran a hard-drive melting test of 15 × 150,000 scorinations of this file using teams arrayed from 0 to 20 skillpoints with -2.5 to 2.5 modifiers, and was happy with the results which produced more realistic scores without obvious outliers. The underlying paradigm can still generate weird results when it comes to bizarrely aggressive chases, but that’s not something it’s within my technical means to change at this time. I can send this file to anyone who wants to test it, and am willing to make further modifications if problems with it are found, but I would strongly prefer to use this or a similarly modified file rather than one that consistently puts out first innings scores at a sub-250 average.

Scorination will take place with 1MD every 48 hours. There may be occasional off-days (either a full break, or a shift to a 72 hour window) to accommodate my calendar.

Style modifiers will be used, as follows:
  • Each player can select a modifier for their team (-1 to +1).
  • Each ground will have a modifier for pitch quality (-3 to +3).
  • Each match will have a random modifier for weather (-1 to +1).
  • Hence a -1 team could have anything from -5 to +3 as their modifier, depending on the ground and weather.
Doing the modifiers this way requires a little bit of effort on the host’s end, but I’m willing to do it because I think it produces more realism and immersion.

RP bonus will be set a little lower than was the case for the T20 because the ODI ranks are much flatter. There will still be a roster bonus worth double one MD’s RP available. RP bonus will be non-degrading.

IC details

Small info blurbs for each ground, as well as background information on Gruenberg the nation, will be provided. There will be a “Team of the Tournament” announced towards the end of the competition. In IC terms, the matches will be considered to be played under conditions similar to current ICC playing conditions (colored kit, white ball, 10 over limit per bowler, etc.). Each team will have one incorrect DRS review (i.e. unlimited reviews until they get one wrong) with GoatEye ball-tracking, HotSpot and Snicko, and slow-mo cameras available (how players RP this is largely up to them, however). There are however a couple of small differences. First, the Gruenberger laws of cricket do not recognize the change to Law 41.5 (deceptive fielding practices) because it’s stupid. Second, instead of a new ball at each end, one ball will be used through the innings and changed for a new one at the 34th over. (Whether or not this is because of Gruenberg’s somewhat lax enforcement of ball-tampering regulations remains to be seen…) Of course it should be understood these incredibly minor IC details have little-to-no boring on the OOC meta of the tournament and are just there for colour.

I am willing to answer questions here, or by TG or on Discord.
