What are your guy's tips for a newcomer to this style of RP setting up a domestic newswire?

I believe Nephara has a comprehensive guide to setting up a domestic league in their dispatches, I would recommend reading them.

As you many know, there have been many attempts at NS-wide wikis that have fallen into disuse/been locked out/deleted articles on a whim. Some of us are attempting to start a new sports-centric wiki in the hopes that it can be a centralized resource. Please feel free to create new pages and/or migrate over existing content from other sites! If you need any help, feel free to reach out to Farf, Kitkat/Omerica, myself, or anyone else onsite (Graint, Quebec, and others are already contributing).

When will the next Soccer World Cup be held and how can I participate in it ? Sorry for asking such a silly question but I am rather new to NS Sport so yeah....
NS Stats are not canon(See factbook for more info). Nation does not represent RL views. IC Name for all other RPs: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. IC Name for NS Sports ONLY: Sannyamathland. Currently undergoing major restructuring. So factbooks and other settings may change.
No longer am a Communist. Definetely not a democratic socialist or liberal. My political views atm are pretty weird and messed up. Deal with it.

As a member who jumped into NS Sport right when WC85 qualification happened and signed up for World Cup 86, I'd say that the time from the WC86 Finals (Probably October or so) to the signup post is 3-4 months, so December 2020 or January or February 2021. As an unranked nation, you can also sign up for the Baptism of Fire when the time comes. I am not a member of the World Cup Committee, so I do not know exactly when it will happen. When it does happen, look out for a post that says something along the lines of "World Cup 87 Signups (Open)" and just say you want to be in for the World Cup and Baptism of Fire.

In the meantime, you can choose to develop your future national team players by setting up a domestic league, the 2 best options being NSFS and Xkoranate, both apps on your computer that can simulate soccer leagues (As well as most mainstream sports in the case of Xkoranate). With this, you can also sign up for the IFCF, NS's version of the UEFA club competitions (Champions League, Challengers Cup (Europa League equivalent), Liga B Champions Trophy (Competition for 2nd division teams if you want to have a second division) and Cup Winners Cup (For your domestic cup winners)). Resources for those are in the Guide to Sports Roleplaying pinned at the top of this forum. As someone who got a team into the Challengers Cup group stage on my first attempt, if you RP it well and often, you can get great rewards. But if you don't want to RP that much, that is fine, a simple league table and maybe cup results can do.

Not a silly question at all, and welcome!

World Cup Qualifying is just finishing in the next couple of days, then there will be World Cup Finals. After that comes the various Regional competitions (including one for nations in regions that don't do their own championship, such as yourself), and the Under-21 and Under-18 World Cups. Then Signups for World Cup 87 will start, so you're looking at around couple of months, I would say. For reference, WC85 started in May, and WC86 started in August.

In the meantime there are plenty of other sports going around, so feel free to jump in to anything that you like the look of, that has signups still open.

Hello! I'm new to NS sports ^^
I'm wondering if non-real life sports are allowed? I really want to make a magical tournament/contest, but not sure if this is the right area.

Edit: I also want to ask if a cooking competition will belong here.

In the past we've had Quidditch and other fantastical sports, so yes, original sports are allowed. This forum is for events that are "scorinated"--ie, the results are determined through some kind of random number generator (perhaps with some teams or competitors having bonuses that make them more likely, but not guaranteed, to win). If you were looking for something where the players would decide and roleplay the results themselves, that might be a better fit for the II or NS forums. But otherwise, it could fit here.

In football, what's a KPB ranking? Is it based on participation in the WC and WC qualifiers? Thanks!

edit: by the way, what does it stand for?

The KPB rankings are what results are based off in WCC-related events. The better you do, the higher your rankings generally is. Because you haven't participated in a WCC event yet (as far as I know), you are unranked.
KPB stands for Kaze Progressa and Bedistan, the two users who invented the system.
I hope this helps!

Might have been asked before, but has anyone been trying to develop a scorinator compatible with new versions of macOS? xKoranate no longer works on macOS Catalina (at least, not right out of the box)

(Perhaps that someone could be me lol. This is definitely giving me motivation to learn how to code/understand the workings of xKoranate a bit better.)

Update: looks like there is an open source xKoranate in the works over at https://github.com/RuleTheriault/Xkoranate-CE

Yup, this question does tend to get asked a lot. Xkoranate does not work with the latest version of MacOS, unless you
a) Run a Windows VM
b) Partition your drive and run Mojave or another compatible OS on the partition
c) Port the app the 64-bit

In the Scorinators discussion thread, you can find some spreadsheets and other scorinators hanging around that can work on MacOS. NSFS will work if you have the latest version of JDK installed. My scorinator (Kalactinator) works on all devices, although only scorinates Lacrosse as of now, and only 1 match at a time (new sports and limited round robin functionality are coming in the near future). Spreadsheets, which we have countless different types of, work on any device that google sheets or Excel can be used on.

Also, it might be a good idea to direct further questions to the Scorinators (OOC) Thread.

Hello I am brand new to Nationstates sports and don't really understand it all that well. I hear that something called, "the baptism of fire" and is going to start soon. I would also like to participate in the World cup but I do not know how. Can someone answer my questions.
