Head Coach and Playing Style
Following the poor performance in last World Cup Qualifiers, the GIFC appointed Poafmer Zahi Castillias to the hot seat, becoming the sole manager of the combined national team. Castillias is a former pundit for the Poafmersia Broadcasting Corporation, who left his job as the manager of the Poafmersian club Mancodas City after a poor title defence. He led Mancodas City to the PFPL title during their inaugural season, before leaving in the second season after a failed title defence, but not before leading the team to the FFI LdV semi-finals. Castillias took a 1 year sabbatical before becoming a pundit at the Poafmersia Broadcasting Corporation, and is happy to return to a managerial role for The Gothanita Isles.

The manager understands the style of football in TGI is slightly different from that in Poafmersia, so he choses to play a balanced possession-based football style for the team. The team is now more tactically flexible and willing to push forward whenever necessary, instead of relying on counter-attacks as the only source of goals. After the equally poor performance last Cup of Harmony where they failed to advance from the group stage, Zahi Castillias has made minor changes to the squad, while instead putting emphasis on understanding each other and playing for the ball more frequently.

I give my opponents permission to do the following for their RPs:
- Choose my starting lineup, goalscorers, substitutes. This must be done in reference to the details provided in pre-match RPs/main roster, such as the 11 starters listed above, and the players' styles.
- Godmod any scoring events, subject to these events being realistic. (Eg. Long range balls from midpoint line/goalkeeper line is allowed, RPing a fast ball boy that allowed for the corner to take place amid chaos is allowed, but something like having a pigeon swoop down from the sky to push a ball in is not allowed. Go through with me what you plan and I may easily accept it.)
- RP or Godmod injuries to my players. These injuries can occur inside or outside the match, however, you only RP what happened. (Do TG me so that I will take notice, especially for godmodded ones.) The extent of injuries, as well as the duration of the player being out, is decided by me.
- Hand out yellow and red cards to my players. However, the number of red cards can only be 1 more than the number of red cards you give your own players.
- RP or Godmod any other events, with the exception of any pandemic-related events. No pandemic in my nation, no pandemic on my players. Do TG me if you wish to let me know of any other events you plan to RP, and I am willing to cooperate if necessary.

Sajnuran National Football Team

Stadiums

National Stadium

The National Stadium is the largest stadium in Sajnur, with a capacity of 102,000 people. Located in the capital city of Javoser, home to more than 12.5 million people, it is the primary arena for big sporting events in the country, hosting a semi-final and most finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup, and several finals of the Tarvolan League, tarvolan being a code of football indigenous to Sajnur and traditionally Sajnur’s biggest sport. It has also hosted the biggest of Sajnur’s concerts and the inaugurations of two Presidents.

Built in 1952 and renovated in 2015, the stadium has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and affordable food and drink options to provide a comfortable experience for all fans while the stadium has been designed to allow fans to produce a raucous atmosphere befitting of large sporting events. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, and has thousands of parking spaces for those who choose to arrive in their own vehicles.

Niurka Stadium

Home of FK Khadur, arguably Sajnur’s biggest football club, Niurka Stadium is located in the Khadur area of Ciarkhan, a bustling metropolis of 4.6 million people that serves as Laghia’s state capital. Laghia was a territory acquired by Sajnur in a war stretching from 1982 to 1996, and it is the Laghian people that popularised football in Sajnur. As a result, the province has eight of Sajnur’s 32 professional football clubs despite having only 1/8 of the country’s population, and Niurka Stadium hosts the other semi-final and some finals of Sajnur’s FA Cup.

The stadium, built in 2006, was named after Nicolae Niurka, who was a Laghian partisan that served as a general against Laghia’s pre-1982 rulers and was killed in combat in 1995, aged just 46. With a capacity of 73,000, it is the largest stadium used by a team in the Sajnuran Premier League. Like the National Stadium, it has a retractable roof, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and plenty of affordable food and drink options, with many food options being traditional to Laghia. The stadium is easily accessible by public transport, but parking space may be limited on particularly busy days.

Queen Haqla Stadium

Queen Haqla Stadium is a 60,000 seat stadium near the centre of Roskjepa, the capital of Delta state and, with 6.7 million people, the second largest in Sajnur. Home to Rivers FC, the stadium is a regular venue for intimidating displays from Rivers fans, with flares, aggressive chanting, and large banners being a common sight, especially in derbies between Rivers and cross-town rivals Stormers FC.

The stadium was built in 1960 and renovated in 2016, and has all the amenities of the National and Niurka stadiums, while being a prominent sight on the Jagaroi River. As such, along with bus and train, the stadium is also accessible by the Jagaroi River’s ferry. However, like in Ciarkhan, access by car may be difficult. Queen Haqla, for whom the stadium is named, reigned over Sajnur from 681 to her death in 727.

Siyaka Island Stadium

Siyaka Island Stadium is the largest stadium in the Asulian states, with 66,000 people able to fit within its confines. Located in the outskirts of Tawqush, a city of about 5.4 million serving as the capital of Archipelago state, the stadium is the home of FC Mazigh, the foremost football club in the Asulian states. Fans on Siyaka Island often bring instruments to matches, ranging from the arghul to large drums to even accordions, posing both as support to those they like and a distraction for those who they wish to lose.

The stadium is the newest of the four national stadiums, being built in 2017 on what was the Mujar port before it was bombed by the Sajnuran navy during a war that stretched from 1990-2003. The stadium is easily accessible by both car and public transport, and with the New Mujar port being built as part of the stadium development, coastal and island hopping ferries can also stop right outside the stadium.

Quite how Ranulph Bustamante is still at the helm of this Abanhfleft team is very much a mystery, one that has given rise to a good number of theories, each one more unlikely than the one before. Now a clear line has been drawn in the sand: get to the World Cup proper and don't finish last in the group stage, or it's the sack.

GK: Guildenstern CARDEW 26 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis

Under Vaughn Palladino, Guildenstern Cardew has turned into the clear number one choice between the sticks for Sporting Ceneisis. He may not be the player who shipped the least goals in the Premier League this season but he stopped enough shots to help the Blues to their fourth FPL title. Now it's time for Guildy to do the same for the national team.

RB: Melisizwe AFOLAYAN 34 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur

Let's be honest, Afolayan was never going to be flashy or the player a team builds itself around. He's solid and dependable down on the right side, a far cry from when he used to be a marauding wingback wannabe and a walking card magnet. But that's what experience and maturity does to a person. He already has a Fleftic Premier League title under his belt, but now he dreams of one more crack at the World Cup itself before he hangs up his boots from international football.

RCB: APOLLOSCLEIYALI 29 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City

Though he was brought into the Rosenpfelblatz City setup at the relatively young age of 16, Apolloscleiyali Rarlingson Crausileine still plays with that curious mix of Daineri and Sunrisian street football. The Citizens may not have been consistent challengers for the title ever since Abanhfleft integrated into UICA and now IFCF, Apolloscleiyali remains one of the constants of this team, almost never putting a foot wrong. Because of this he was given Fleftic citizenship via the Alternative Football Program as a candidate for the Fleftic national team, but this is only the first time Apollo will actually represent the Revolutionaries, strangely enough.

LCB: Paco MATUNDAN 26 y/o, Xemlice Rovers

Paco Matundan must have thought his footballing career was over when he was released by Malabon SC following the Ravens' shock relegation from the FPL at the end of the 2025-26 season. Luckily a club from Greythrone called Air Force Superstar decided to take a chance on him, but sadly the club did little of note other than gaining promotion once before Greythrone itself collapsed into anarchy. Paco was only saved from falling into obscurity by a timely move to Xemlice Rovers where he has now settled down and made a name for himself, even if it is choking on title races.

LB: Caleb WAYNE 29 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers

Another one of the generation of Fleftic defenders who also liked bombing up and down the wings who discovered that sticking to defending was actually what he does best. It was as a full-on left back that Caleb Wayne became instrumental in the Wanda Island Wanderers side that won the Fleftic Premier League in 2027-28, and is now one of the first names written down on Artemio Peres' starting eleven. Caleb also became the starting left back for Abanhfleft after Daisuke Ogigayatsu started putting in more time down the right side for Ludogorets Markovsky.

RM: Andor GAÁL 29 y/o, Malabon SC

Andor was one of those who stuck with Malabon after they were relegated and helped them get back up into the FPL after only one season in Unang Liga, but so far his only reward has been getting to play in the Challengers' Cup. Formation changes and new managers have turned him from a defensive midfielder to a right-sided one. He's still very much a box-to-box midfielder, but this does tend to leave his team a little short-changed in the middle of the park. He also became a dead-ball specialist during his time in the Fleftic second tier.

CM: DeAngelo LEVIN 33 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky

Football tactics and formations in Abanhfleft don't use out-and-out central midfielders a lot at the moment, meaning Levin is often classified as a right midfielder for Ludogorets Markovsky, but in his heart of hearts he is still very much the spider sitting in the center of the web, er, pitch. After being in and out of the national team setup for a few years he appears to have finally nailed down a starting spot in quite possibly his final World Cup campaign as well.

LM: James CARMICHAEL 26 y/o, Xemlice Rovers

James Carmichael is a Xemlice Rovers youth product who rose to significance after he stood in for Fabrosu Nyema during the 2028-29 season after the latter was injured. James does a little bit of everything here and there such as breaking up attacks in the middle of the pitch and pinging in those diagonal passes. He's usually well disciplined, but when he goes in for a tackle, boy does he go in for a tackle.

RW: Marcus TABAREZ 26 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi

Without a doubt the most expensive Fleftic player of all time. Marcus Tabarez cost Arsenal de Releinthi a whopping 120 million new penenks (80 million NSD) just to get him from Xemlice Rovers. The start of Marcus' Gunners career was not the best, coinciding with one of the worst seasons in the club's history, but slowly Tabarez is starting to justify his hefty price tag. Last season may not have been the best for Arsenal as a club, but it was a good one for Tabarez, chipping in 20 goals and 13 assists. Ranulph Bustamante now hopes that Marcus can do the same for the national team.

CF: Kareem DAGEN 31 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City

Kareem Dagen is still a goalscoring machine. Of that there is no doubt. But what is in doubt is how much of his goalscoring form he will be able to keep going now that his main provider in Max Fetfatzidis has hung up his boots permanently. No doubt that Kareem's supporting cast this time around is still as impressive as before, but whether they'll be able to live up to Max's insane consistency is another thing altogether.

LW: Arthur MacALISTAIR 29 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers

Arthur finally completed the transition from midfielder to winger under Artemio Peres, and people are already saying it's the best move Arthur's ever done in his whole football career. Of course it helps that his first full season as a winger was also the season that Wanda Island Wanderers finally won the Fleftic Premier League. But MacAlistair's starting spot in the national team may no longer be as secure as before now that there's a new contender for the spot in the form of Riuwiee United's Elmo Bevan.

RESERVES
GK: Orestes KATSOURANIS III 32 y/o, Riuwiee United

Orestes the Third finally returns to the Fleftic national team after an 11-year absence. In the between his last appearance for the Revolutionaries and today, Orestes has gone to Riuwiee United from Marinos Thimpodopoulos, but only now has he managed to stake his claim for the number 1 shirt in the capital ciub, which is also probably the reason why he was only called up now as well.

GK: Carlos COHEN 37 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis

Not only has Guildy Cardew managed to displace Carlos Cohen from between the sticks in Sporting Ceneisis, the absolute madman has done it in the national team as well! But there's a reason for it. Clearly Cardew is the future of Fleftic goalkeeping, while Cohen is sadly in the past. Carlos may still be in his prime as a goalkeeper but Cardew has the higher ceiling, and clearly that is what Ranulph Bustamante is basing his selection on.

RB: Masakazu CHIBA 23 y/o, Riuwiee United

Masakazu Chiba is one of an ever-growing number of football players in the Democratic Republic who trace their lineage back to the Japanese nations such as Flardania and, in Masakazu's case, Aji No Moto. Although he was never capped for any of Abanhfleft's youth teams, Ranulph Bustamante is apparently convinced that Masakazu will be able to handle being a bench option for the senior national team for the current World Cup qualifiers.

RCB: Ram WALIA 29 y/o, Sporting Ceneisis

Who would have thought that little Ram Walia from Hithamandhoo in the Trendstart Colony would become the first man from his island to win the Fleftic Premier League? Certainly not Ram himself. From humble beginnings at AFC Hithamandhoo, Ram made his way into the youth academy of Sporting Ceneisis, where it looked like he was going to go the way of the rest of the Blues' infamous "loan army" until he showed what he was capable of as first a substitute for Naftali Singerstein, and then later on as the Fhulghamousian international's replacement. There's a reason why Ceneisis finally won their fourth title this season, and one of those reasons is Ram Walia.

LCB: Kenneth OWOBOWALE 32 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City

Another former national player brought back into the fold after a decade or so in the wilderness. Left-sided center backs seem to be a particular weakness of the Revolutionaries at the moment, and while there's a decent crop of those rising up the ranks of Fleftic clubs, at the moment Ranulph Bustamante apparently believes that Kenneth is the best out of this bunch.

LB: Vipin NAGARKAR 29 y/o, Admiral Porcusces

Vipin Nagarkar wasn't that well-known outside of Admiral fans when they were relegated at the end of the 2028-29 season. He could have gone to any other team that he so chose, but he decided to stick it out with the Foxes in their campaign to get back into the top flight. He did just that, and he cemented his place in the side after solid and impressive performances at left back, and then VIpin sealed his place in the history of Admiral Porcusces by scoring the 78th minute goal that won the Foxes the 2031 SFA Cup Final. Safe to say that this is a call-up two years in the making.

RM: Max PIERCE 31 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz North End

Another area of the pitch where Abanhfleft are currently a bit thin is at right midfielder, and after much deliberation Ranulph Bustamante decided to put Max Pierce in as Andor Gaal's backup. There's nothing to separate the two aside from the fact that Pierce is slower and has the defensive subtlety of a nuclear bomb. But apparently Max is the best of the rest of Abanhfleft's right midfielders. This is going to end so well for the country.

CM: Toumain VINCELOT 34 y/o, Sarvusdalamoive

Whoever said that Toumain Vincelot was apolitical must not have a twii.tur account or any access to social media at all. The combative Sarvus midfielder has become one of the loudest critics of Fleftic President Matthias Green, claiming on an almost daily basis that Green would turn Abanhfleft into a "fascist superstate" even worse than the isolationist Empire of Greater Anglatia. Any other manager would have steered clear of Vincelot, but Ranulph Bustamante knows that Toumain can separate his politics from his football and remain rock-solid in the middle of Abanhfleft's midfield.

LM: Trevor IÑIGUEZ 29 y/o, Ludogorets Markovsky

The backup left midfielder was actually a tough choice to make for Ranulph Bustamante because there were two players who could very well have fitted into that spot on the national team: Travis Sevilla and Trevor Iñiguez. Both of them were gifted technical players with bags of skills with an eye for finding teammates in the final third. In the end, Bustamante opted to go with Iñiguez because the Fleftic Air Force didn't want Sevilla outside of the country in the event of an attack on the Democratic Republic.

RW: Palmer HICKS 21 y/o, Electric Yugal

In a team where the system doesn't have much use for a winger, how is one such right winger in one such team supposed to get game time? On loan to another club, of course! Palmer is entering the second year of a two-year loan deal to newly promoted Electric Yugal with an option to buy for the Bolts. He did well for Electric during their promotion campaign in Unang Liga, but can he do the same in the Premier League? Ranulph Bustamante believes Palmer can do it with the national team, so there's that.

ST: Mustafa BENSOUSSAN 24 y/o, Bananas FC

Bananas may have been relegated from the Premier League, but if that's not making Mustafa turn his head then nothing probably will. The young man is dedicated to the cause of bringing Bananas right back up, but unlike some of the other sides to have been relegated from the league in previous seasons, Bananas don't look like they would be able to do it as quickly. Shiina is a youth-team goalkeeper, and the most callow of Riena's current batch of goalkeepers. She is a good reflexive shot-stopper, but her game remains riddled with the flaws and deficiencies that one would expect from a player in the infancy of her international career, but she is a promising prospect who may well develop into a decent senior-level goalkeeper - if she manages to supplant both Minato and Kugimiya for a spot in the starting XI.

Just one cycle ago, Kanata Shiranami was the flavour of the month, an innovative technocrat of a manager who, despite her relative inexperience, looked well on her way to becoming Riena's most successful manager in a generation. Leading a squad of young, hopelessly callow players sourced from the Riena FA's elite talent development programme, Shiranami espoused a brand of vertical attacking football focused on moving the ball through the lines at pace, and quickly turned Riena into one of the more watchable teams in their Baptism of Fire. Under her guidance, Riena managed to eke out a fourth-placed finish in the BoF, losing to the eventual champions Mavinet on penalties in the semifinals before tasting defeat in the third-place playoff against Tequilo. But Riena's strong performance at the Baptism was only a taster of what was to come in the World Cup. Drawn into a relatively strong Group 14, Shiranami led her unfancied team to an improbable charge for qualification, sending even the most pessimistic Riennese fans into raptures with a string of positive results against storied footballing names such as Newmanistan and Krytenia. The crowning moment of Shiranami's debut cycle came on the penultimate matchday of WC85 qualifying, when her Riena side comprehensively defeated Vilita, the multiverse's finest team, by three goals to nil, an achievement only slightly undercut by Qasden gaining a point on the same matchday to qualify at the expense of the Wavelets. Under Shiranami's astute stewardship, Riena went unbeaten throughout the group stages of CoH 77, before being eliminated by Kandorith in the first knockout stage.

Shiranami's record in the subsequent Campionato Esportiva, however, was less than stellar. Playing on home soil as the hosts of CE 27, Riena were amongst the first teams to be eliminated in the group stages after successive defeats to Vdara and Ancherion in their first two matches, the latter loss in particular casting a harsh light on the team's defensive inadequacies. Riena continued their patchy form in qualifying for the subsequent World Cup - in particular struggling mightily to put points on the board against lower-ranked teams, and it came as no surprise to observers when the team found themselves out of contention for qualification with several games to spare. Riena's subsequent outing in CoH 78 was similarly disastrous, as a spate of key injuries in defence sent Shiranami scrambling to rejig her team. Her efforts were in vain - Riena picked up just seven points from six games, crashing out ignominiously in the group stages.

Mortified by Riena's inexplicable failings, the RFA launched a comprehensive inquest into the team's underperforming campaigns over the course of the cycle, which led to Shiranami's charges skipping the Campionato Esportiva in South Newlandia. The inquest was widely expected to end in Shiranami's termination, alongside a large-scale cull of her players - but the RFA ended up sticking to their guns despite huge public pressure, giving the manager a third cycle to prove herself in the hot seat. No longer able to plead inexperience after three years in the job, Shiranami must pick up the pieces of her calamitous second cycle and show the multiverse that she is not just a one-cycle wonder.

Overview
Riena will tend to set up in a highly fluid 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation, but they are also adept at playing 3-4-3 and 3-5-2 when the situation necessitates it, primarily against technically superior opposition in which Riena are expected to have less of the ball. The team can and will rapidly transition between different formations when necessary, and Riena's players will, in general, be given freedom to roam from their assigned position as well as exchange positions with other players. The team's physical shortcomings means they will tend to play the ball short on the ground rather than looking to go long when in possession - a notable exception is in the final third, where the comparatively more physical forwards provide a useful focal point for crosses. In attack, the team will look to move the ball vertically at speed, but will also be content to patiently probe the opposition defence if there are no immediate openings. Riena is particularly reliant on their wingers in attack, and if the opposition manages to stifle Riena's wing play, they will inevitably be muzzled as an attacking threat. In defence, Riena uses a high defensive line and will try to make use of offside traps. Zonal marking is preferred at corners and free kicks.

The pitch dimensions are short, but wide, by multiversal standards for football pitches, facilitating wider play on the flanks. The pitch itself is usually well-watered and slick, allowing the ball to travel at speed across the natural grass surface. For teams who prefer a spot of beach football, Riena's original national sport, Riena maintains the Radiant Sands Arena, also in Nagato, with the same pitch dimensions as the Wavelet Arena, but with a sand surface instead. Riena will usually default to the Wavelet Arena, but opponents are free to specify a stadium preference if they wish to do so.

For the first time since WC81, the ANS has renewed the Ligue's national team and will have a presence in the World Cup qualifiers once more, still led at the helm by the prior manager, Maurice Bonhomme who is retaining most of this old staff, a move that is likely an attempt by Bonhomme to ensure that his players who are all relatively inexperienced on the international stage have a strong leadership core that can help them establish a foundation on which to build.

Most of the Warlocks of the last generation are thoroughly gone, either retired from the Ligue or too old to receive an invitation, of the '81 Warlocks, only Chevalier, Delafosse, and Blanc remain which explains the later being named captain of this squad. Gainsbourg and Gérin-Lajoie both also have prior caps but most of their playing time came as substitutes and rarely consistently started, so for the most part the entirety are debutants in their own right. Tactics have been changed and a much more balanced 4-3-3 seems to have been adopted for this go-through, though interestingly enough the back four will be all true fullbacks instead of the outer two playing wide as a quasi-wingback, though whether that changes throughout the course of the qualifying campaign remains to be seen; Blanc especially will be one to keep an eye out, her speed, agility and precision are textbook fits for the classic Thibaean wingback, so it's possible that Bonhomme might play her more outside of a traditional fullback role, or perhaps her selection will mean she's playing as her natural role whereas when Bonhomme wants your typical strong back he will swap her out for Favreau or Colbert.

On the offensive side of the ball, I think the thing that will make-or-break the Warlocks will be how well their midline performs, and if they're capable at being adaptive and quickly switching between offense or defense, the latter will be the primary concern I believe as Babin and de'Verely are both well established as offensive-minded midfielders but are not very well known for their defense. The latter in particular has developed quite a bit of a negative connotation in that area of expertise during his last four seasons with Peyrelade, but he is their third best scorer and they've won the Ligue three titles in the last five so he could fit right in. I could easily see Gérin-Lajoie or Babin switched consistently with a different selection from the reserves, Bonhomme has carefully selected a very capable mix of mostly higher performing Tier 2 players, with a few bright sparks from Tier 1 mixed in for reinforcement and further options.

The Kandorese team is looking to play a more aggressive football and rely a lot on quick, successive passes and counters. But, when in doubt the team will hold back to eventually mount a mass assault from the midfield positions. The midfield is the most important terrain for this team; this is where the most important and strongest players control the entire play. The strikers for Kandorith are something different, the team has no traditional style strikers but rather extremely fast and pacey runners; who will take their opportunity to run at the goal at any chance they get; while the midfield will close down the area behind them to ensure the team's dominance on the opponent's half.

The midfield is not only the engine behind the team, but also very capable at scoring goals. The strikers are mostly wingers and runners who are supported by a capable and pacey midfielders who all have a talent for finishing. In defense the Kandorese team is cautious and pressure absorbing. The entire team will do their very best to tire out opponents and strike when they are off-balanced with quick and long passes the Kandorese defense can switch to a full-out offense and get the ball in the opponent's half within two passes. Unlike many teams, this team does not have a set formation but more a guideline in what their responsibilities are. According to the philosophy of Kandorese football winning is the responsibility of the entire team, therefore the entire team should be able to play in complete synergy with the rest.

The home stadium for the Kandorese National Team is the Empress Masumi National Stadium, named after the current Empress in honour of her coronation. The rather new stadium is designed as a multi-purpose sports complex with the possibility of completely changing the venue's layout for almost any sport. When the stadium is not used for sports the large complex is used to host concerts, large events and even traditional markets. The Stadium is the home of the Kandorese first division team FC Tenkyo who are one of the "big four" teams of the nation. Descendant of Season 4 Turorian Player of the Season and National team legend Cuolia Tuirma, Klaillal often partnered on the pitch with Restiia Mumamba as an "All-Around" player for the Turori National Team. After being brought up through the academy system at Kionao, Tuirma signed a professional contract with Colonial Sile in Vilita for Season 35, winning silverware in the first match, the Tropical Trophy triumph over Strike. Tuirma's stay in Sile didn't last long, however, coaxed back to the luxury of Arcticala Inlet to help in their Champions-Cup qualifying campaign of Season 38. Tuirma returned to Turori during Season 44 as a member of Mliona-Lpaka AFC. Tuirma retired from international competition after winning the 67th Cup of Harmony with Turori. Playing in a unique role throughout their career - being expected to be able to play every game, in every position - even Goalkeeper, if there were no subs left - resulted in a deep understanding of each position on the pitch and the nuances that made each position different setting Tuirma up to be a well respected coach, ultimately getting the nod as the head coach of Turori's National Citizen Squad.

The Freechi Team was founded in 2000 by Sandrose I, but never joined any international or even domestic tournament until the government of Sandrose II, the actual emperor. The Freechi Football Confederation (FFC) is directly linked and administrated from the Sandrose II Palace. The President and Emperor chooses and adminstrate all the staff in the FFC, choosing from the Executive Staff to the Gandula (ball boy).

The team is actually being managed by Sofiya Kuznetsova and achieved the third position in the Baptism of Fire (and Ice) 74. Kuznetsova adopts an extremely tactical gameplay, and is highly praised by the most fanatical soccer fans in Freechi. He is the tallest among the field players, and his stays in the opponent’s box sometimes make the team vulnerable to counter-attacks. There is no real fight over the position, so Roy enjoys plenty of starts; but that might change with Nguyen joining the team. Roy played a strong season in Chromatika, and is at the peak of his career.

LCB: Tommy Anderson (25 years old) (49 matches played, 0 scored goals, 2 assists) Couziers-Olympiques (Ko-oren)
Tommy Anderson has been part of the squad since the Baptism of Fire, and bounced back and forth between the first eleven and the bench. He absolutely is a pure defender, rarely sighted in the opponents half. Anderson profited off Schroeder’s injury to get a lot of minutes in the qualifiers for World Cup 86, and has taken his spot since. He moved to Ko-oren last season to establish himself further.

RCB: Mike Sloah (25 years old) (9 matches played, 0 scored goals, 0 assists) Ituraitz FC (Astograth)
Sloah is one of the less experienced members of the national team, but a move to Astograth has really sparked his career. He proved himself as a very solid defender with a great eye for the game, able to spot things practically before they happen. He was only really discovered as a big talent late in his career after kicking the ball in the second tier of South Newlandia for a few years, and he’s looking to make up for that now.

RB: Filip Barker (25 years old) (0 matches played) Cranequin Wanderers (Nephara)
Barker has been the big surprise Wolverine had in store for us. After bouncing around the multiverse for a few years, he had a breakout season in Tikariot for Ysgrann Bay. Despite them going down, he landed a new job in one of the most prestigious league systems of the multiverse, and probably of all time, in joining the Cranequin Wanderers. Barker, who has never started in a match for the Elephants except for a few games at the recent Campionato Esportiva, will be starting at his position right away. In Tikariot, he established himself as a good player, able to hold his side well, even though he has had some problems with red cards on occasions.

DM: Kevin Mohamed (23 years old) (54 matches played, 2 scored goals, 3 assists) Nagelti Rovers (Jeckland)
Kevin Mohamed is the player in Defensive Midfield for the team. While he isn’t the strongest player on the position, South Newlandia lacks viable alternatives. He is a solid defender, but he isn’t great at developing and starting plays for the offense, often slowing things down. At twenty-three years old, he also still has a lot to learn, and is currently doing that in Jeckland. Wolverine was quite lucky to find Mohamed, considering his club and the affiliated country are currently nowhere to be found.

LM: Corban Green (22 years old) (43 matches played, 2 scored goal, 17 assists) Jecken Newport (South Newlandia) CORNERS
Corban Green remains one of the younger players on the team, but his lack of experience is made up with fantastic amounts of talent. His shot isn’t as dangerous, while his flanks and corners are among the strongest ones in the country. Due to problems with his knee, he frequently missed games, but he seems to be fit right now. Hopefully, he can stay healthy, but every light touch to his leg might side-line him for months. Recently, he hasn’t gotten the results he wanted, but he might be able to bounce back, even with two bench players eyeing his position.

RM: Patrick McMora (25 years old) (62 matches played, 7 scored goals, 16 assists) Walstreim Lions (South Newlandia)
Patrick McMora is the player with the most matches for South Newlandia, having missed only two games. His passes and flanks can be deadly, and while he doesn’t score a lot of goals, he is capable of doing that too. He is one of the players that might be the captain eventually, and he will assume the role of vice-captain again. The proud Walstreim Lion has helped the team a ton during its early days, and remains a valuable starter for them.

OM: Finnley Wallis (28 years old) (55 matches played, 17 scored goals, 11 assists) Taeshan City Miners (South Newlandia) FREE KICKS
Finnley Wallis is one of the most important players of the team. Depending on the situation, he can act as a third striker or even help out in defense. He debuted in the Baptism of Fire, and he is also responsible for free kicks. At 28 years, Wallis is well in his strongest years, and needs to be defended well. After a decade with the Royals, he moved to play in Taeshan, and had a solid, but barely noteworthy season there. In a league ranked as high as the Taeshan Premier League, that is more than enough to return to the starting job for the Elephants.

ST: Bjorn Cohen (22 years old) (26 matches played, 8 scored goals, 4 assists) Jecken Newport (South Newlandia)
Cohen is another of those frequently injured players, but he is a fantastic prospect when he’s fit. That’s rarely enough, but at the moment, both legs seem to be fine. He has proved that with three goals in the recent Cup of Harmony, and a strong season with Jecken got him the starting job at the beginning of these Qualifiers.

ST: Simon McCabe (32 years old) (40 matches played, 15 scored goals, 5 assists) Folte (Graintfjall) PENALTYS
At 32 years old, he may already be past his strongest days, but he is a force to be dealt with. He still has a fantastic strong shot and a good read on goalkeepers, but his age sometimes leads him to being too slow or making some easier mistakes now and then. Everyone thought he was on the way out, but he fought back with a great season at his new club, Folte. This position will likely see a lot of rotation, with four strikers that all play roughly on the same level.

Rufus Rigby usually is the main replacement for Mikhail Trischuk. He debuted in the Baptism of Fire, and experience is the only thing separating him from Trischuk. He had some chances to prove himself recently, like in the Campionato Esportiva, but he will be back to the bench for now because the results weren’t exactly ideal, and Trischuk is a very capable goalkeeper. He finally moved on from the Guards and will join the Kohnheadian team Barnley FC, where Brandon Irving also plays.

LB: Archer Nguyen (21 years old) (0 matches played) Ancarea FC (Tikariot)
Nguyen also joins the squad for the first time, having played a really solid season in Tikariot for Ancarea FC. The smart and talented defender is eyeing up Roy’s spot, and he may indeed be a viable alternative.

CB: Philip Gurero (25 years old) (21 matches played, 2 goals, 2 assists) Nickelson FC (Kohnhead)
Gurero is another skilled defender, providing flexibility for the Elephants. Very good results in Kohnhead have brought him into the roster for the qualifiers again, but he has been placed on the bench for now. He is dangerous with headers, and shouldn’t be underestimated, but his relative inexperience is a weakness for him.

CB: Andre Hall (21 years old) (0 matches played) Ratzupalfu Rhinos, (South Newlandia)
Hall is the fourth option for his position, but he is mainly brought to learn some things. The young, modern defender can also spark ideas on offense, if he needs to, but his relatively small size are a big weakness. The Rhino had been rumoured to leave his team in the off-season, but remained with Ratzupalfu for now.

RB: Gustafe Wright (30 years old) (27 match played, 0 scored goals, 2 assists) GCCFC (Northwest Kalactin)
Robert Wolverine likes using experienced and pure defenders, and Wright is both at once. The man now playing in Northwest Kalactin, where he delivered a solid season, was quite disappointed to get benched for Barker, and will fight back for his spot.

DM: Jakob Walter (26 years old) (0 matches played) Birmingham United FC (Murphtannia)
Walter had a phenomenal season for Birmingham United in Murphtannia, excelling in tackles and assists, and has gotten him called up to a position South Newlandia historically has looked weak on. At 26, he is very late on his first call-up after years of being average for the Guards.

LM: Donald Lancaster (22 years old) (32 matches played, 2 scored goals, 3 assists) Walstreim Lions (South Newlandia)
Donald Lancaster is one of the players that already played for the Elephants during the Baptism of Fire, has been the main replacement for Corban Green since about forever. He will have to fight to get past Green, but after two good seasons for the Lions, he might be closer than ever.

RM: Marcus Young (21 years old) (5 matches played, 0 scored goals, 0 assists) Ratzupalfu FC (Farfadillis)
Young has made a massive jump with a move to Avenida Leal in Farfadillis, and has earned himself a spot in the qualifiers as well. At 21, he might be the future on his position for the Elephants.

OM: Abdurahman Bishop (24 years old) (30 matches played, 3 scored goals, 3 assists) Jecken Newport (South Newlandia)
Abdurahman Bishop joined the team for the World Cup Qualifiers 85, and he fought with Finnley Wallis for the start in offensive midfield. Wallis won. The 23 year old is still lacking experience, but he may be a solid alternative to Finnley Wallis. He is definitely the second option for the position, and will probably surpass Wallis eventually, just not now. Currently, he is often subbed in as an offensive alternative.

ST: Michael Glossman (27 years old) (19 matches played, 2 scored goals, 1 assists) Admiral Storevik (Savojarna)
Glossman really needs to get it together. He has had a bad Cup of Harmony, and comes off two bad seasons with Kinjestad Soccer, who sold him to the Vilhardy Owls, where he racked up as many red cards as goals. He’s lucky he’s made the roster at all, and has to hope that he can get back on track. Maybe a move to Savojarna can help.

ST: Brandon Irving (24 years old) (57 matches played, 24 scored goals, 11 assists) Barnley FC (Kohnhead)
Brandon Irving was already part of the squad during the Baptism of Fire, and leads the team in goals at 24 scored goals. Despite his talent, he is largely inconsistent. If he plays well, Irving is hard to stop, and the best player in the squad, and is the shooting star of the team; he has played many legendary games. He played an average season with Barnley, and finds himself on the bench after some small muscular problems.

GK: Jason Ortega (23 years old) (0 matches played) ISC Catalan City (Xanneria)
Ortega will be the third goalkeeper for South Newlandia. He has been playing in Xanneria, an environment rough for goalkeepers, and proved himself enough to join the roster. South Newlandia never used their third goalkeeper in any competition yet, but you never know.

Elephant Dome (21.500 seats)
Elephant Valley, just a bit away from the western coast of South Newlandia, is not only the capital, but also the economic and cultural heart of South Newlandia. The Elephant Dome is the biggest stadium, home of the Elephant Valley FC, and will host three of the games. The stadium is right in the middle of the Elephant Valley, and seats a bit over 20 thousand people. There was a legendary game with nine goals here, and everyone in attendance remembers it to this day. The opening and closing matches will be held here, namely the matches against Pasarga (MD2), against Hampton Island (MD10) and against Tumbra (MD18)

Jecken Arena (16,250) Newport, Northeast
It is unusual for stadiums to be sponsored in South Newlandia, but the stadium of Newport, right on the East Coast of South Newlandia, is sponsored by a well-known foreign food company from Jeckland. Currently, that nation seems to have temporarily vanished, but the company paid for the naming rights in advance. The stadium is the second-biggest in South Newlandia, and the home of Jecken Newport is commonly used for friendly matches. The Elephants will play Valladares (MD4) and The Gothanita Isles (MD16) here.

Walstreim City Stadium (15,000) Walstreim, Southeast
Walstreim, located at the South coast, became widely known with the success of their club team, the Walstreim Lions. Otherwise, the city is not particularly interesting, but it used to be very industrial. The Walstreim City Stadium has been upgraded for the occasion, as it used to hold only 13,000 people. This upgrade makes it the fourth-biggest in the nation. The Elephants face Garifunya (MD12) and Bluecliff (MD14) here.

Kinetik Stadium (13,500) Elephant Island, Elephant Area
The Elephant Island is a small island just off of the coast of Elephant Valley, and it was never really relevant. At least not until the well-known energy drink brand from The Grearish Union, Kinetik, bought the Elephant Islanders (now Kinetik Islanders) and built them a top-notch modern stadium with everything you could possibly want. It is very close to the sea, so this stadium always looks fantastic on photos. South Newlandia will play against Regmotto (MD6) and U-Koro (MD8) here.

World Cup 87 Roster

Zeta Reka is returning again after a modest World Cup cycle and coming off of a historic regional championship performance. Head Coach Marko Dusan is in a do or die situation this time around, qualify or resign. Their form in the last qualification campaign was worse in World Cup 85’s solid third place showing. Coach Dusan set up his men in an ever flowing yet sturdy 3-5-2 formation. Every Rekan will need to be at the top of their game. The national team roster has been reshuffled, old and new faces lining up for the Football Federation’s 23 man photo shot. Plus there’s over fifteen reserve players who could add depth, or at least warm bodies, to the Rekan lineup.

The Euran Oceania Territories is a parliamentary federal dominion of Eura, formed of the Euran zone of the former Inevitable Syndicate and the Whittorian Islands. It has a population of around forty million people which is quickly rising, making it a beacon of diversity home to Syndicatians, Whittorian refugees, Euran migrants, Apoxians, Audioslavians, Samebans and many others. It has possibly the world's largest artificial crater, which dominates the landscape west of what is now a rebuilt Fligsive, the capital of this new entity. Its home stadium is the the Flynn Arena, where Eura beat Polar Islandstates 4-2 in the famous 66th World Cup final. Few would have predicted that the colours of red, blue and gold would become permanent there but its happened, and the stadium is now back in good condition after an expensive refit to return it to the 96,500 capacity it held previously.

Previously a wooden stadium, the current iteration of the Flynn Arena was rebuilt after a great fire destroyed the stadium during a game between Fligsive FC and Magnaeus City. Nowadays, it's a little more robust, having been the subject of many refurbishment projects over the years. The stadium was easily reachable on the Fligsive Metro before the violent overthrow of the Corvidae regime and the associated disaster in Fligsive. It now sports a combination of the old paint job as well as Euran blue and gold while the local club Fligsive FC are still in existence despite drawing lower crowds after the Mertagne exodus. Though they did not play in the hastily cobbled together amateur EOTLeague, they are the dominant side in the new professional EOFL.

Euran Oceania Territories formed a national football team not long after the founding of the political entity, a project conjured up by the Euran government Ministry of Sport to imbue a sense of cohesion among the diverse population of EOT. They played a series of friendlies against other "Eurasphere" sides from Endemia and Rushmore in a lengthy state subsidised tour. Their first games were defeats against Daera, Itor and the Ferguson Islands, before an unexpected 4-3 victory against Helving, despite their Euraleague star Scott Barnes scoring a hat trick.

They then entered the 50th AOCAF full of excitement despite having a mostly amateur team, including serving military personnel, but were promptly demolished in the group stages by several teams. Now, with the citizenship laws relaxed to allow the growth of the Territories, the "Underdogs" as they have come to call themselves were suddenly confident that they might be able to pull off a shock or two. Their first manager was of top class pedigree - Tolgus Tregajorran, a footballing hero in Apox who was well known on the international scene.

Tregajorran managed to persuade some former Apoxian internationals, playing in Eura and with no international allegiance following the temporary dismemberment of Apoxian professional football, to sign the relevant papers and make the surprise switch to EOT, as well as Euran's and other international exiles. After several years of bit part competition EOT competed in the World Cup qualifiers for the first time and in turn the Baptism of Fire, after the Sameban national team withdrew from the Endemian International Sporting Agreement and international football.

EOT performed poorly at the Baptism of Fire, going out at the group stage, but put on a respectable showing in their qualifying group for the 80th World Cup. Tregajorran's unexpected departure and a chaotic period followed with Rhys West as manager, who was soon sacked over an off-the-pitch indiscretion. It ended with the controversial appointment of Euran footballing legend and cult icon Skorji Oslograd halfway through World Cup 81 qualifying. Immediately applying Oslograd's "Skorjiball" approach - best summarised as an extremely aggressive and fluid attacking game interrupted sporadically by the manager doing something inappropriate - the team secured some noteworthy results but remained very much an underdog competitor reliant on an aging core within its squad.

Oslograd's dream is to turn them into the living embodiment of "the way of the warrior" and to qualify for the World Cup. His first AOCAF was the first tournament where Olsograd was able to demonstrate his own approach to the game in full but the results were mixed. Then he led the side into World Cup 82 qualifying, but a dreadful start to the campaign snuffed out any hopes, although a later revival ensured a semi-respectable finish. But the team did lose a bit of its soul, playing more conservatively than previously, a trend that Oslograd reversed at AOCAF LVIII. The Expats excited fans with their performances and took the scalp of Valanora, easily the biggest victory in the young teams history before exiting in the knockouts against Banija.

As a result the squad went into qualifiers for World Cup 83 and the following AOCAF largely unchanged, only to disappoint again, and then again at World Cup 84 and the 76th Cup of Harmony. Several retirements and the ageing of players left the squad looking weak for amidst rumours that Oslograd would quit, with his mind turned to helping grow the domestic game in the Oceania Territories - the launch of a new domestic league having now occurred. Oslograd, now 56, quashed these rumours by opting to extend his existing contract and undertaking some of the most radical changes to the team since its formation.

Despite an above expectations performance at AOCAF 60, including a memorable 4-3 win over Audioslavia, it all came apart for the Expats in qualifying for the 85th World Cup and the 77th Cup of Harmony where EOT were routinely humiliated and left both tournaments at the earliest stage in terrible form, a huge step backwards on previous attempts at qualifying relative to expectations. The young dominion's footballing pride, the player's reputations and Oslograd's entire philosophy were being openly queried by the international media - Oslograd's headline-grabbing theatrics had come back to bite him.

Following that disastrous campaign Oslograd has embarked on the most radical overhaul of the Expats squad since the arrival of the original "Expat" contingent led by Karl Cotrell and David Cooke, chucking out a whole group of players deemed "past it" and bringing in unproven talent from EOT's brand new EOFL. Several players retired and many more were dropped. The formation changed again too, abandoning three at the back and now resembling a 5-4-1, but with both fullbacks lumped forward and only two strikers, making it a kind of horror movie version of a 3-5-2. This was a hell of a gamble by Oslograd who for the first time in his tenure faced a serious threat of the sack.

In the past he was perceived as being too big to fail, especially given his popularity in the Territories and back in Eura, and his excellent reputation as a player and early in his management career. Now he was increasingly becoming more of a meme than a manager and had put the EOFF in the red with his antics. Failure at the previous AOCAF made that pressure worse, and when the Expats flat lined for the first few games of World Cup 86 qualifying, it appeared that his reign was at an end. Only an unexpected return to form and impressive recovery in the latter half of qualifying saved his job and secured a respectable finish. They blew out at the following AOCAF on low expectations, following the international retirements of EOT legends Kurt Strong, Peter Chadwick, and the slightly less beloved Tom Duffy. So where next? Skorji Oslograd is 58. The team is missing much of its formative bedrock. It hasn't gone anywhere when they had them anyway. Can Skorjiball pick up from where it left off with the form found during the second half of World Cup 86 qualifying, with an even more attacking style?

Maccian Football Association's Squad For The World Cup 87 Qualifiers

Brief Team Introduction:

The Riflemen are coming off of a Quarter-Finals appearance in the 78th Cup of Harmony and have seemed to be able to bolster the squad with even more talent. After finishing a modest 5th in the previous World Cup Qualifiers, fans are hoping that as the third pot, Maccian may be able to at least finish in the top half of the group.

Nickname: The Riflemen

Manager: Angelo Gelinas, Age 48 from Quebec

Angelo Gelinas, in some ways, is the very definition of 'the balanced Quebecois' which, while sounding oxymoron, is plausible by any means. Earlier in his life, he had a very illustrious, well-celebrated career with Avenida Principal in Farfadillis and the Quebecois National Team, where he played a significant role as both their star forward (playing style: complete forward). His highest achievement as a player was his significant role in Quebecois NT's 2 quarterfinal finishes and a 4th place run in the World Cup.

Since his retirement, Gelinas moved onto a managerial career, where he steadily climbed up the ranks before being named the manager of Montreal Koreana, the most historic and winningest team in Quebec. There, on a club that needed an uptick in form from 3rd-6th finishing range, Gelinas managed to bring back the Koreana with 2 Q-League titles and 2 Coupe du Roi titles before continuing his career abroad with Marinos Metropolis. There, he led the longtime Valladar powerhouse to 2 mediocre league finishes (9th and 6th) in LFV, but have also won a King's Shield (Valladar FA Cup) and had 2 deep runs in the newfound IFCF. After his firing by the Marinos, he hopes to continue his managerial career with Maccian, a national team with high potential and balanced playing style he likes emphasising about.

As a manager, Gelinas is a guy who focuses on a balanced style of play with a typical Quebecois flair the game. With his famed work ethic dating back to his playing days with Avenida Principal, Gelinas expects all his players to be on top of a rigorous training regime and be clean with executions. That said, he's not a disciplinarian himself, and will turn blind eye to his players' off-turf antics, granted they perform well.

He is an accomplished manager who has won trophies and so will help this Maccian side towards future greatness and prosperity. Although his rigorous training regime could lead to a lot of injuries considering these are teenagers and young players still early in their careers, Gelinas has taken our team to a new level with his tactics.

At long last, the Royal Imperial Stadium has been constructed, which cost a total of £1.34 billion. The Maccian National Team will be playing all home games and the MFL Playoffs Final will also be played here. The Royal Imperial Stadium will also serve as a way for His Majesty King Timofeé to ~~spread more propaganda~~ host events related to the Royal Family and Maccian.

Situated in the southwest of Maccian in the city of Singlewave, the Royal Imperial Stadium has the famous Sandringhal Beach only 10 minutes away, which is the number one tourist sport for Maccians escaping the cold and miserable rainy parts of the country everywhere. This will also be the first eco-friendly stadium in Maccian as it will be powered by purely solar panels and will be zero carbon-emitting. Fans will be urged to take a pedestrian route but electric cars are allowed and car parks will offer free charging points. No alcohol or recreational drugs will be present at this stadium to prevent any drunken and high football hooligans getting into fights with opposing fans when an unfavourable result happens.

Royal Kingdom of Quebec National Football Team - World Cup 86 Qualifiers

There once was a time when the Grim Reapers were one of the best national teams in the World. Yes, I'm talking about that time when they had a remarkable semifinals run that fell short a couple of times, and Grim Reapers eventually finished fourth at home. Still, that was like 16 years ago, and almost all the players from that team have retired or are retiring in the very next or two. Heck, some of them are fairly seasoned managers at this point and their kids are now coming into our attention. God, how time passes by so quickly....!

Anyways, building the team bottom-up would mean another kind of fun. The Grim Reapers, while not unfamiliar to winning, have an entirely different squad than their predecessors, that they are going to primarily focus on building from international experience that they sorely need, especially after a decade and half of political squabble between Royal Sporting Council (responsible for the domestic side of the sports, so in this case Q-League), and Imperial Sporting Council (same, but on the international side of the fence and of course, all national team sides). So really, expectations are to be controlled and calmed down, because everybody knows this isn't the same team.

But hey, the excitement's still around and abound, as you can only expect Team Chemistry as a minimum while also learning about the Growing Pains as a maximum. While their first cycle (WC85-CoH77) didn't net them a qualifying spot, it did result in a half a dozen critical upsets that seemed to show the potential this Team Quebec holds, and likely will carry into the subsequent years to come. So, while making the World Cup seems rather a long-term goal at this point, the Grim Reapers remain hopeful that they will reach the World Cup at some point, and will work their arse off of it.

Understanding the Pool

Thoumas d'Herbigny was hired after serving as the Manager of the Oberour Ar Moro Under-18 team, but found his seat hot after failing to qualify out of the group stage of the Copa Rushmori. He needs to find a roster than can finally match the Dragoon's rating if he wants to keep the Football Management Committee satisfied.

The players number 1-11 would be considered the starting 11 if the cup started today. The players 12-24 would be backups. Every layer behind them is competing for the those 23 spots throughout qualification. When the team qualifies for the World Cup (or the Cup of Harmony, should they fall short) the pool will be cut down, and the numbers will be reassigned to the final squad. Throughout qualifying, starting rosters and the bench at each game will feature a different mix of players from the pool.

If we talk about players, Pablo Colín, the goalkeeper, is considered as a Lev Yashin around the nation, his height and hability to detect where a goal is coming has helped him in his short career
Ferdinand Faibermann is recognized for his ability at passing, as well as with air balls
Ulises Rivera is good at passing the ball, and he has done better in defensive skills, not as good as Ponte, who is good intercepting passes, thought not good at passing balls, and a bit slow

Overview

Football isn't a big thing in Ranoria (well, this version anyway) and frankly no one is expecting a huge run from this team. However, Ranorian soccer players also haven't gotten a ton of international exposure in terms of competition. With that said, we have no idea how good they are in comparison to other players around the world, we just know they're probably under appreciated at home!

Anyway, the most recognizable name here is Barry Chlorid. He's an NSCF championship winner with the Cold Hill Buffalo, served as Ranoria's world bowl kicker every year but this year (citing wanting to focus on preparing for the Baptism of Fire). He kicked four field goals in the Buffalo's NSCF XX victory over Northern Moravica, and he's a three time first team all pro already. He was actually a two time All Ranorian at Cold Hill as well in what Ranorians refer to as soccer, but he couldn't turn down the millions the RFL was offering. Anyway, here he is, a strong athlete with a god-gifted leg, hoping to help keep our Krauts from humiliating themselves on the world stage.

Sporting History

Reçueçn has just barely been in the World Cup long enough for people not to ask 'who?' when they hear the name. The nation has had few opportunities to make forays into the world of international football, but those it has had have been mostly successful. Reçueçn debuted in the 59th Baptism of fire, before the 72nd World Cup, but accomplished very little before disappearing from international football for 10 cycles.

During this period, domestic sport in Reçueçn fell into disarray as well. Only recently did things change, when a young legislative staffer named Jean-Luc Lassalle began an initiative to resurrect organized sport in the country with the government's assistance. The result of this push was the creation of the brand new Reçuecian Ministry of Sport, which promptly reorganized domestic association football leagues throughout the country and got things moving once more. Lassalle himself became the new Minister of Sport, despite his young age.

For the national team, this meant involvement once more in international competition. Reçueçn's first chance to declare its return came at the 7th Independent Associations' Championship. To the surprise of everyone, including its own fans, the unranked Reçuecian national team managed to win 3rd place, taking home its first silverware of any kind. The team itself largely consisted of the same squad that had partaken in the Baptism of Fire and World Cup qualifiers all of 10 World Cup cycles ago.

The team had struggled back then, due to the rivalries within Reçuecian domestic football, and those old wounds came back with the reestablishment of the national team. During the Baptism of Fire and Reçueçn's first international competitions, the players hadn't really had enough experience playing with each other to develop the necessary camaraderie or team spirit. Hopes were high that the creation of the Ministry of Sport would herald in a new era. Since the team was largely the same, some of the rivalries came back at first, but the team's performance at IAC 7 smoothed over its troubles and the team gelled.

Riding high on their third place finish in the IAC, the Reçuecians launched into their first qualification attempt since World Cup 73. This time, things were different: still officially unranked, Reçueçn miraculously managed to qualify for the world cup in its first attempt, even making it as far as the Round of 16. Reçueçn's first-time qualification and its consistent qualification since then is most likely the sporting accomplishment for which the nation is most known. The nation returned to the IAC even stronger and more confident; this time it knew what it was capable of, and it was hosting to boot. In its second IAC, Reçueçn got everything it could want: victory at home.

After that, the Reçuecians held steady but failed to make any meaningful advances. The nation didn't advanced past the round of sixteen in either the IAC or the World Cup in either of the next two cycles. However, at the last IAC, things fell apart. With only a single victory in the first round, Les Licornes finished second-last in their group, a result that was dubbed a 'national embarassment' by Reçuecian news outlets. Has the team been cursed to by its spell as a prodigy to live forever in the shadow of its early successes? Is it all downhill from here? Or will the team be able to recover in the world cup?

National Team Information

L'Équipe Nationale de Reçueçn de Football is still in the process of making a name for itself, but if it's known for anything, it would be for its defensive style. This is partly due to the large influence of Reçueçn FC on the team—the most popular domestic club in Reçueçn plays about as defensive a game as you can imagine. This is balanced out to some extent by the players from other teams with more attacking philosophies, but the league as a whole tends towards defense, and it shows in the national team. Furthermore, Gerauld Firaut, the team's #1 goalie, is the best player on the team by a solid margin—without a doubt, Reçueçn's first world-class player. He and his defense form the foundation for the team as a whole.

The team plays in a 4-3-3 formation, but sometimes the wings drop back, almost making it a 4-5-1. In general, the team's strategy and tactics are solid—Jacques Tremblay, the coach, knows his stuff despite his age. A couple cycles ago, amid rising concerns over Tremblay's health, the team signed an official assistant manager for the first time in Bonheur Relié, whose fiery personality contrasts Tremblay's gentler wisdom. The team's weakness would be a possible lack of talent—Reçueçn has not yet had the opportunity to develop or train true world-class quality players.

The Reçueçian National Team's mascot is the unicorn; thus another name for the team is "les licornes". The fantastical creature has been a symbol of Reçueçn for almost two millennia and is also the national animal, appearing as the supporters in the national coat of arms.

The team's kit represents the colors of the flag in a quite literal fashion. The jersey was recently redesigned, replacing the first one the Unicorns ever wore, dating back to the 59th Baptism of Fire. Fans who thought the old outfit ugly are excited to see the team play wearing its new uniforms, and feel that they are now represented much more professionally.

Reçueçn has only one stadium in which its national team plays, located in the capital city (also named Reçueçn). Never having been given an official title, the national stadium is usually simply referred to just that: The National Stadium, or in French, the local language, the Stade Nationale. Coaching Staff

Jacques Tremblay: Old and wise, Jacques Tremblay is often seen as the father of modern Reçuecian football, known for his eternal ability to innovate and surprise. He had retired, but when asked to coach the national team, did not refuse. He, along with Gerauld Firaut, holds together the national team. Reçuecians tend to forget how ridiculously old he is, and anyway, he's all they've got.

Bonheur Relié: Passionate and motivated, Relié has all the youthful energy you'd hope for in the assistant coach of a side whose manager is pushing three quarters of a century. Sometimes his energy can be a bit much and he's had some friction with the players in the past.

Starters

Gerauld Firaut: The face of Reçuecian football. Mature, talented, humble. Firaut, team captain, provides the leadership on the pitch that les licornes need, and the fact that he's such a nice guy when he's not playing soccer helps cement him as the nation's favored son. As some of his Reçueçn FC have retired or not been called up for this tournament, his exceptional goal-tending skills combined with Tremblay's strategy has preserved the team's defensive nature.

Emanuele Cutrona: Cutrona was in the first batch of call-ups for the National Team after the original Baptism of Fire squad, and he's still one of the youngest on the team. Until Di Martino's call-up, he was the only Italian-speaking player on the team (although others are from Italian-speaking clubs). He's developed a strong friendship with Franky Adams, which often leads to the pair of them getting in trouble.

Paulin Bourguignon: Bourguignon is the kind of defensive player who is always trying to clear the ball with long shots and score goals at corner kicks. Big on counter-attacks, he sometimes outpaces the mid-fielders, usually to his coach's dismay.

Lukas Kayserling: Very tall. Calm and controlled. Sometimes has difficulty communicating as he doesn't speak English or French as well as most of the other team members.

Oliver Spencer: Annother star defensive player from Reçueçn FC, Spencer is often outshone by Firaut, and for a long time Spencer couldn't decide whether the rivalry he thought they had was more important than team spirit or not. By now he has found his groove as part of the all-important back line.

Raoul Lavigne: No relation of the slightly more well-known Hippolyte Lavigne, Raoul is the second sophomore of the team: not one of the original squad but not a brand-new call-up either. He caught the NT's scouts' eyes after helping Bonneville Sportif to a couple good seasons. (He now plays in Baker Park.) Playing outside the nation has given him new things to worry about, namely, if his teammates leave him out of things since he's not a 'local' anymore. He doesn't realize how ridiculous his fears are, but fortunately they push him to prove himself every time he steps onto the field.

Harold Saunders: Saunders is synonymous with an aggressive style of play, especially in the midfield. He seems to always be able to find a way to give the ball to Franky. On and off the field he is emotionally well-balanced, usually rather stoic and unmoved.

Maynard Hebron: The unsung hero of the Assalto Alpino, Hebron is a great proponent of football development across Recuecn, especially on behalf of the smaller amateur teams that have recently joined the FNRF. Hebron often gets lucky with long shots from the edge of the box when the strikers are unable to really get open right in front of goal.

Per Tegeler: Good at receiving the ball from the defense or mid-field, trapping it in general, and taking it into the 18-yard box and shooting. Possible weakness is passing: either he doesn't, or it's long air balls. Per is the big change to the line-up since the world cup—the aging Hippolyte Lavigne was not called up again, and so now Tegeler is starting.

Frank "Franky" Adams: Young, extremely talented, and rather cocky, Franky, who plays for Association Genève in the LNRF, really makes their team. When he has a bad shooting streak, his team has a losing streak, and vice versa, and he knows it. At Association Genève, the team and the fans love him. At the national team, they tolerate him—his rivalries with Reçueçn FC's players cause tension which Coach Tremblay must try to defuse. Tremblay, incidentally, thinks Franky is a bit conceited, although he is still one of the most aware of his talent. Franky is definitely the second most famous player on the team, at least to Reçueians. His role up front helps with that, obviously.

Freeman Lebo: Lebo can score goals, is highly motivated, and persevering. He's comfortable in the striker role. However, he is high-strung and not too difficult to offend, traits which, when combined with his overestimation of his own skill, can make him difficult to get along with. Has lots of potential when a manager can get him to swallow his pride, and Tremblay usually can. Lebo and Franky got off to a rocky start but since then they've really meshed well, and they give each other great service often leading to one of them scoring.

Reserves

Estienne de Chefderue: Both of les licornes' reserve goalies were recently replaced, and de Chefderue got the number one number two spot. Last season at FC Harrim he did well, and he got some practice in the Eagles Cup when Tremblay subbed him into a lot of matches. It remains to be seen how he'll fare in a tournament that means a bit more.

Hagen Groos: A Reçueçn FC representative, yet again: Groos is sweeper for the club, which is supposedly the best in the country. It's probably confusing for him then why the starting sweeper position is handed to the younger Cutrona rather than him.

Jayson Compton: Not a ton to say about Jayson Compton. He's a mysterious fellow and we don't quite know what he's up to ourselves.

Quirino Lucian: Lucian has the look of a rugby player, and he'll take all the intimidation he can get from that: he needs people to know he's not afraid to muscle them down as they approach his goal—because he's not. He'll mess you up.

Barnabus Mercer: Called up for the first time at twenty-seven years old after doing very well in le championnat, some people questioned this decision of Tremblay's. Certainly it was the strongest on paper, so we'll see how it pans out. If you can believe it, Mercer played for a San Lleran club team more than ten world cups ago.

Robert Chéreau: Chéreau's biggest issue is that he tends to drift toward the center when he shouldn't, yet he ironically seems to have a very good idea of space and where to be in it, which is good for a player in his position.

Grégoire Leclair: Leclair almost never plays at the same time as Saunders. Usually, one is subbed for the other depending on whether more defensive or offensive tactics are called for at the moment. Leclair's specialty is going back and clearing the ball in difficult situations. There were thoughts Leclair wouldn't be called up this year, which would've been major news, but I guess he's been doing well enough in Savojarna for Tremblay.

Quentin Gouin: The team's new youngest player, he has breath and speed and agility. The stamina is sometimes lacking.

Marc Schöner: Schöner is the latest call-up, replacing Tegeler on the bench now that Tegeler is starting. He's fresh from winning le championnat with his club (Stomford 1904), so he's got all the energy and drive you could ask for, along with all the pride and self-assuredness.

Ly Nasser: Loves to shoot from far out, and often shoots high. Despite this, he makes up for it with his sheer number of shots. Incredibly aggressive, and loved by Zimmerich fans. Thinks he is one of the best strikers in the world, and he certainly is a good player. Weirdly he gets put on the Reçuecian reserves, you'd expect him to be playing with Lebo and Franky.

Jean-Baptiste Brochard: Immensely fast, especially with the ball, Brochard is weaker in set pieces and organized attacks. His strength is the counter-attack and the breakaway.

Calanico Di Martino: Unfortunately Di Martino's given name doesn't quite just mean 'soccer,' although it is close. His parents must have known there was something special about him. He has a toe that moves with wings—useful for delivering powerful goal kicks but perhaps wasted on a player who never gets to shoot.

Reçuecian History and Culture

The nation of Reçueçn was created in the first half of the XIV^th century, when Carl Blancpic, Duke of the Duchy of Reçueçn, launched a breakneck military campaign invading and annexing many of his neighbors to the east. Before this time, Reçueçn had been only a city, built on the heights overlooking the junction of the Rhône and Saône rivers. These heights had been settled by Carl Blancpic's distant ancestor, Ifheda Rcuecn, near the end of the II^nd century a.d., and had born his name ever since. The area at that time belonged to the Roman Empire, who had established their regional administrative center, Lugdunum, on the other side of the river.

In 197 a.d., a decisive battle was fought near Lugdunum in one of the civil wars for the throne of the empire. The victor, Septimius Severus, razed the city of Lugdunum and destroyed it, stripping from it all imperial privileges in punishment for supporting his rival. This was the end for Lugdunum, but it was the beginning for Reçueçn. Refugees flocked across the river to join the settlement, and the city of Reçueçn grew to become a smallish regional center. Rcuecn's descendants (who changed the spelling to Reçueçn) maintained control over what became the Duchy of Reçueçn for 700 years, until it was inherited by their cousins the Blancpics who reigned for another 300 years.

At the beginning of the XIV^th century, power passed into the hands of Carl Blancpic, who was partially insane and a megalomaniac. Thus he declared his duchy to be a kingdom and singled out weak neighbors who he invaded with audacity. Over an incredibly short period of time beginning in the spring of 1337, he had carved out for himself a sizable dominion.

Carl, who styled himself "Carl III of Reçueçn", was violent, unstable, and petty. He was also wildly unpopular with the populations of the various states he had conquered. Although the central power structure helped the economy of the new Kingdom of Reçueçn to some extent, it did not bring with it all the stability that might have been expected. This was mostly due to the decrees of Carl III, who, among other things, began a campaign to persecute and kill all "heretics" within his new realm. Most historians agree that this was in fact a thinly veiled purge of his political rivals. This and other policies he enacted on his whims finally drove the people into open revolt sometime around 1352.

Carl managed to hold on to power for a couple years by hiring mercenaries, but in 1254 lost two key battles and was captured by the rebels. By this time, the rebellion was led by feudal lords throughout the country who had sided with the people against their tyrant king. Carl III was executed, and the kingdom dissolved into a mess of tiny, independent feudal holdings.

No sooner had the various states that had been in the Kingdom of Reçueçn won their independence, than infighting broke out among them. The feudal lords squabbled over power and influence, trying vainly to imitate Carl's meteoric rise to power. This new violence, combined with the economic downturn associated with the rebellion and the breakup of the nation, clearly displayed how poorly things were turning out. More sensible minds came to the decision that the solution was to once more unify Reçueçn.

On November 19, 1356, therefore, The Allied States of Reçueçn came into being. The leaders of all the petty states, duchies, bishoprics, free cities, etc., came together and signed what are known as "The Treaties of the Alliance," a document just powerful enough to classify Reçueçn as a single nation by most people's definition, rather than a group of independent entities. The treaties also established a rough form of democracy, with each state represented (although typically by its aristocracy). Thus Reçueçn lays claim to being one of the oldest democracies in the world.

The treaties defined much of Reçuecian history to come. Provisions were made to establish freedom of religion, in order to avoid another scenario similar to Carl III's persecution of his opponents. The treaties also gave Reçueçn an isolationist bent. The nation had been burned before, and wouldn't soon try to meddle in external affairs, especially when its composite nature made creating a foreign policy so difficult.

Reçueçn, then, has managed to avoid many of the crises of European history. It's darkest moment came when Napoleon invaded, proclaiming himself emperor (although he allowed Reçueçn's government to continue to function under his reign). The allied states have drawn closer together, although cultural differences remain among them; they don't even all speak the same language.

Reçueçian culture has also been shaped by its location, nestled in the center of the Alps. The difficulty of travel among mountain valleys ensured the cultural diversity of the nation and preserved local customs. Although rural communities did center around agriculture—especially dairy production—many Reçuecian were forced by the lack of arable land to find other work. This led to a culture of innovation that continues today: Reçueçn is now known for its luxury products and technological exports. This has additionally led to a focus on science and education. The relatively diverse nature of Reçueçn's culture means that some areas are culturally more time-oriented while others are more task-oriented, but this fusion has given the country a uniqueness, especially in art. Reçueçn, perhaps thanks to its inland, mountainous location, or the fact that it was never a colonial power, has seen little immigration or emigration. Recently, however, the diversity of language spoken in the country has made it attractive to refugees from other areas where those languages are spoken.

Visiting Reçueçn

Reçueçn is a small nation, but it's got a lot to see. If you're visiting to attend a world cup qualification match, you may want to stay the weekend to see the sights.

Travelling to and in Reçueçn
If you are coming to Reçueçn for world cup qualifying, you will most likely want to fly into Reçueçn City. As the capital and biggest city, it will definitely have the flight connection you need. Genève, the nation's second city, will also accommodate you in this regard, but Reçueçn city is also the site of every Reçueçian home qualification game. If you are travelling from a nearby country, arriving by rail is also a possibility, and many more Reçueçian cities have international rail connections than have international airports.

For travel within the country, taking the train is probably the way to go. Car rentals are fairly expensive, and many cities restrict downtown access to pedestrians and public transport. When travelling through the countryside, you will find that autoroutes have high tolls, and smaller roads are typically wind annoyingly through steep mountain terrain. However, an extensive rail and tunnel network has been built, and taking the train is fairly cheap between most places in the nation. Bus routes also connect most larger towns. Within cities themselves, public transport is always very high quality and usually very affordable or in some cities, even free. But armed with these tips, the next question is: where to go?

What to See
Presumably if you're reading this, the main attraction that has brought you to Reçueçn are the World Cup qualifying games, all played just a short bus ride away from Reçueçn International Airport at the National Stadium in Reçueçn's inner suburbs. You could also take the metro there without going outside. But if you want to see a bit more of Reçueçn, consider taking a ride up to a cute alpine village and hiking along a mountain ridge to appreciate the amazing views we have to offer. Or go for a swim in a mountain lake and cool off in the shadow of the peaks. If you really are looking to ditch the heat, check out the ice tunnels at the Écho glaciers. Or, if you come during the winter, you can hit the slopes—our skiing's the best in the world.

If the mountains aren't for you, consider visiting our world-famous cheese museum—free samples! Or visit the Genève Cathedral if the culture you're looking for isn't bacteria. Genève, Reçueçn, Zimmerich, and other cities all have beautiful downtown historic districts worth the walking tour. Check them out if your idea of a good time means wandering through medieval fortifications or strolling down cobbled alleys. Exchanging your money should be no problem: the Reçueçian guilder is very stable and worth only a little more than the NSD.

Where to Stay, What to Eat
If you are on the search for the perfect hotel for your stay in Reçueçn, worry not. Plenty of all kinds abound in and around each major city, whether you're looking for the four star experience, or just want to save a few guilders. If you'd rather have the personal, local touch, then we've still got you covered: a quick look online will reveal plenty of family-owned bed & breakfasts, as well as short-term rentals with people trying to make some money off the empty spare room one night or week at a time. Hostels are also very popular in Reçueçn, and are a great way to stay near the city center for a very low cost.

What'll you have for dinner? Reçueçn's food is what will make you want to come back for another visit. We love our cheeses, and our national specialty is Raclette: melted cheese scraped over small potatoes, cornichons, and charcuterie. Try it at a restaurant where each table is provided with its own small oven so each diner can melt their own. Another local specialty is Tartiflette, essentially a casserole of potatoes, onions, and lardon (thick-cut bacon) served with a slab of, you guessed it, more melted cheese cooked right over it.

If you find yourself in an alpine pasture hankering for a pique-nique, rather than seated at a fine dining establishment, don't worry, cheese is great for a basket-lunch too. Bring along a baguette and a saucisson, and you've got yourself a meal.

No meal in Reçueçn is complete without a glass of wine, and the local product is certainly worth the connoisseur's time. Reçuecian wine varies immensely depending on whether you're south, west, or north of the Alps, so try a few varieties and pick your favorite. If you need a pairing for your meal, it just so happens that every single person you meet on the street in the country is a self-proclaimed expert ready with helpful advice. Just don't stop them on their way home for dinner.

Do's and Don't's
Do say "Bonjour" to those you pass by in a small town. Don't block the passageway in the metro if you're in the city. Do take your time to enjoy a meal or a conversation in western Reçueçn. Don't be late in eastern Reçueçn. Do greet people with a kiss on each cheek. Don't actually let your lips touch them. Do cheer loudly for your team! Don't insult les licornes in front of their fans. Do take a selfie with your head on the block at execution square in downtown Reçueçn. Don't miss out on your visit because you're on your phone the whole time. Do rent a bike and pedal around to see the sights. Don't be unprepared to parallel park if you've rented a car. Do make eye contact during a conversation. Don't stare at people. Do be ready to share gossip with perfect strangers. Don't expect people to open up to you right away. Do keep your hands above the table at dinner. Don't yawn when someone's talking to you. Do offer to help your host with cleaning up. Don't ask for seconds until offered. Do speak your mind and be straightforward. Don't bank on too much personal space.
