First of all it is because biology doesn’t work like that. Actual extinction of vermin is very dangerous to the ecology. We want to keep vermin out of human areas but do not need to and should not exterminate them.

Secondly the amount of cats in households is neither sufficient nor adequately distributed to accomplish the freeing of human areas from vermin. There are many people who keep cats. However there are even more people who don’t. These areas that aren’t adequately policed by cats obviously can not enjoy the benefits of feline patrols.

Last but not least, many domestic cats have reduced capabilities of hunting which is in fact encouraged by pet keepers since cats who hunt are more likely to catch diseases and get injured than those who don’t.

There are several main benefits of partial ailurocracy:

1. Ailurocracy can prevent dictatorship. Ailurocracy can ensure that the position of head of state as well as other positions that are prone to capture by dictatorship and should not exist such as Minister of the Interior can never be human, thus finalizing their abolition.

2. Ailurocracy can eliminate cults of personality. Feline constitutional monarchs or presidents will be targets of gossip and centers of attention while human prime ministers with real power have to keep a low profile. Feline constitutional monarchies work the best here since then all human leaders must always use humble address before the feline monarch as opposed to claiming honor for themselves. The military and the police will also have to keep affirming its loyalty to the feline monarch and the people and never lord over them. All leader pics on currencies and other national symbols will be replaced by cat pics and locations named after human rulers need to be renamed after cats.

3. Ailurocracy is cheap. A feline head of state costs a lot lower than a human president or monarch, including pure ceremonial ones. This will save a lot of money for tax payers. Moreover feline politicians are a lot less corrupt than human ones which again saves money for tax payers.

4. Completely insane policies are unlikely. Humans have crazy ideologies such as communism and Nazism. Cats on the other hand will never support things as crazy as concentration camps. We can reserve the power of declaring martial law, forced population removal, opening and incarcerating people in detention camps, appropriation of property etc in the paws of the feline head of state and require it to only be sanctioned when the head of state gives a speech before the Parliament explaining the purpose of such policies which will prevent it from ever happening.

As someone who loves my cat dearly, nah. While cats are definitely a better choice than some of the world's leaders, simply by the fact that they won't fuck over the people if they sleep for 18 hours a day, even if they're purely ceremonial, they're one incident of stealing their guest's food at a state banquet away at being removed from power.

Source: my cat tries to steal a ton of human food, including popcorn, Brussel sprouts, and even Werther's Original. Kinda paranoid about eating chocolate cake around the cat because I fear my cat will get sick if he even has a few crumbs.

I’m familiar with the internet. The craze for cat pictures is a feature not a bug since cats don’t actually hold power and hence can not abuse it.
