How is this different from the House of Commons getting stormed by pro-hunting activists? The scale, the fact that it's about an election rather than a single bill or that the president is possibly encouraging it? I'm not denying what you say, I'm just trying to catagorise this event since I am passed being shocked. I think I will be shocked if the protesters actualy achieve anything beyond delying the procedings for a day.

I'm not Archregimancy, but what scares me about all of this is the potential precedent.

It's what scares me the most about any of Trump's post-election antics. Not that he'll succeed doing them (he hasn't, and it was unlikely from the start that he would), but that he opens the door to much more competent people pulling the same shit.

And now, we have a man who whipped his base into a frenzy watch as they storm the capitol with the intention not to oppose one singular bill, but to oppose democracy itself, and the best thing he has to say is "be peaceful guys!".

That is true, some things in democracy are supposed to be sacrosanct yet Trump is happy to remove that ideal just to hold on to some hardcore supporters. He might not even believe his own alligations but it gets him a pyrrhic victory of sorts so it's worth it in his eyes.
