Bath House Etiquette

There are many public bath houses in Saltha, and many prefer the public bath houses to bathing in their own home. To the Salthan it is considered not just a place to get clean, but a place to meet and interact with people in the community.

Many bathhouses are segregated by sex, though there are still a number of non-segregated bath houses. In most cases both kinds of bath houses are nearly identical inthe entry area, and so you should ask at the front desk of the bathouse whether it is segregated or not. Also, you may ask your hotel for a list of segregated bath houses.

In the main entryway there are two doors to the changing rooms that are covered in a cloth. A blue one with the word "Sana" (man) or the salthan symbol for "A" for mens or a pink cloth with the word "Sali" or the Salthan symbol for "I" for women's. It is not uncommon for young children up to the age of 10 to go to a changing room or segregated bath of the opposite gender with their parents.

In a bathhouse, you go in to changing room and undress and put your clothes on a shelf. There is little danger of your things being stolen, as crime is very low. It considered polite if you are over ten years old to wear the toshi(loin cloth) or use a small cloth to cover your pubic reigon as best as you can when you walk around the bath house.

In the next room is the big tub of hot water. You do not get in to the tub right away; instead you first go to one the side to one of the faucets and take soap a towel and scrub thoroughly, then rinse off. This water is not heated.Then the bather gets in to the large hot tub.

Calendar System

Salthans use a different calander than the standard human calendar. The Salthan calendar begins on the spring equinox (around March 20th), and is divided into 15 months, the first 14 months each having 5 weeks with 5 days each in them, totaling 25 days in a month. The last month only has 3 weeks, and 15 days total is is considered outside of the year.

Because of this change, certin days do not directly corospond to the human calender systems, and dates on one may change on the other from year to year.
