General Schedule of Events:

• The Nomination period is from now through sometime on the 2nd
• The Voting period is from the close of Nominations through midnight on the 9th
• Awards will posted fairly shortly after that

Nomination Rules & Guidelines

• Nominations by those generally blacklisted for OOC reasons will be voided
• Nominations of individuals and regions generally blacklisted for OOC reasons will not be counted
• You may make as many or as few nominations for each award as you wish
• Nominations may only be made in this thread
• Self-nominations in the Individuals Awards category (and Most Popular) will not be accepted. If you can not get others to nominate you, you don't deserve it
• Explanation of nominee is greatly appreciated but not required
• Nominations require a second to move to the voting stage
• Seconding must be done by name
• Nominations will close when I am online to close them and not before

The Categories and Awards:

Awards Given to Probably Deserving Individuals

• Raider of the Year - The most villainous, the exemplar of evil, the paragon of raiding in the last year.
• Defender of the Year - The doer of good, the leader of righteousness, the stalwart defender of the last year.
• Independent of the Year - For that wishy-washy person who nonetheless was very competent this last year.
• Up and Coming Raider - That new person to the art of raiding who shows the most promise. Nominations may be made of those new to raiding in a longer time-frame than the last year, within reason.
• Up and Coming Defender - The best recruit of the side of righteousness who shows the greatest promise. Nomination requirements are the same as above.
• Politician of the Year - Ah, the infamous profession. This award is for those who have power & influence by position, and have used it the best.
• Most Influential Gameplayer - The equal and opposite of the above, this award is for those who don't have powerful positions, but somehow end up influencing and/or in the room where it happens anyways.
• The Armchair Award - The oft-maligned award, this goes to the individual whose activity level is most inverse to how much they talk about what is going on.
• Gameplayer of the Year - The crown jewel in any awards cabinet, this award is for that person who is the best Gameplayer around (or at least in the last year).

Individual Awards Disguised as Being for Groups of People

• Raider Military of the Year - Given to the military that has best demonstrated the crushing of natives for the past year.
• Defender Military of the Year - That Military that did the most to protect the mostly-innocent masses from raiders this year.
• Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year - An award for the undecided militaries among us that play on both sides.
• UCR Region of the Year - The user-created region that did exceptionally well this year.
• GCR Region of the Year - Supposedly an award for the game-created region that did the best this year, we all know that's code for most popular.
• Best New Region - That new region everyone is talking about, and looks to be doing the best.

Awards Somehow Given to Non-Physical Stuff

• Invasion of the Year: Even the most epic of invasions deserves more accolades.
• Defense of the Year: The defense that most showed what defenders can do.
• Political Event of the Year: - Treaties, wars, and political intrigue oh my! This one is for the big things happening in Gameplay politics.
• Failure of the Year (IC only): - Missed triggers, opsec leaks, and more! This is the IC event (OOC stuff is out) that gets the dubious distinction of being dubbed the greatest failure of the year.
• Event of the Year: - The biggest thing in Gameplay to happen in the last year.

The Silly Awards and Ones that Don't Fit Elsewhere

• News Operation of the Year: - Regular journalism, yellow journalism, and tweets. This goes to the operation deemed the best at putting out the news we all sometimes care about.
• News Article of the Year: - That which is deemed to be the biggest or best article of the year, by the whims of the mob.
• Best Thread/Essay/Long-form Dispatch: - The thread or similarly long thing deemed to arbitrarily be the best.
• Quote/Short-form Dispatch of the Year: - That witty/funny/weird comment we all like.
• Most Popular Award: - The silliest and most arbitrary of awards, this award is for whoever we all evidently like the most.

I know very little about R/D gameplay so most of my nominations are about other areas:
Politician of the Year:Korsinia - Kors might not be tremendously well-known, but has been the Prime Minister of Thaecia for 8 months, and has led the region through ups and downs. Kors is liked by most of the region and barely put a foot wrong in their term.
Gameplayer of the Year:Kuriko - Defender, Secretary-General, delegate of XKI. Kuriko has done an awful lot for gameplaying community.
Political Event of the Year: The Secretary-General Election - just remember the WA elite/Jocospor controversy, it was what got me into regional politics.
Quote/Short-form Dispatch of the Year: comedy gold?? - I'd say it's unlikely to win as it is virtually unknown, but I found it hilarious.
Most Popular Award:The raid on The Oceania - This was the time when a plan for a raid was made on a public NS gameplay forum thread, which became laughing stock of many gameplayers, but resulted in a successful raid by a complete novice. It essentially became a meme for a few days.

That's it from me. I was thinking of possibly adding a nomination for UCR of the year, but couldn't think of a region that I believed deserved it, other then my own region, but that opinion is definitely subjective, and I believe that doing that would be irresponsible, considering my position in the region. I don't really have enough knowledge of the gameplay community for the rest of the awards.

[A Bloodred Moon]

Raider of the Year: Aquila - South Pacific was a great raid, and Aquila’s work on other large raid especially in the last few months has been important to their succes. Alternatively, Haitianstates has done their part, leading raids, organising or helping to organise.
Defender of the Year: Phoenix - I don’t think I need to explain why, but South Pacific and Smol Fur Empire, while both unsuccessful liberations, were highly memorable.
Independent of the Year: -
Up and Coming Raider: Twobagger - I find this one hard to choose, as there are many up-and-coming raiders, but I think Twobagger’s consistent presence definitely wins him this one.
Up and Coming Defender: Grea Kriopia - my knowledge on defending is very, very limited, but from my knowledge Grea Kriopia is skilled, consistently present at update, and relatively new.
Politician of the Year: - Pass. There’s been so little politics that I can’t think of anyone.
Most Influential Gameplayer: -
The Armchair Award: Koth
Gameplayer of the Year: -

Raider Military of the Year: Lone Wolves United - absolutely biased, for sure, but I think we’ve done enough to qualify. I will also, of course, nominate The Black Hawks for their large raids and consistent activity.
Defender Military of the Year: TITO - obvious pick. I wouldn’t say that they’re the height of skill or whatever, but they bring the numbers to liberations and, on occasion, chases, and have done so consistently.
Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year: Lily - consistently active, as well as skilled at tag raiding. Not much more needs to be said. I would also like to nominate EPSA for bringing large numbers, as well as the raid of Slatos.

Invasion of the Year: South Pacific - the second largest raid in terms of endorsements, and the most significant overall. In addition, Boston was the largest raid this year, and Smol Fur Empire was in my (biased) view also of significance.
Defense of the Year: Markion/Christmas - those were the most significant defences I recall.

Raider Military of the Year: LILY - did genuinely more impressive raiding than any other "actually raider" military
Defender Military of the Year: TGW - I'm biased, but I don't think there's even a debate here anymore if you just look at the facts. We now have the largest updater pool to draw from for liberations (35+), the most active non-update reservist force (The Guardians), the win stats to back up our success talks, and global reach and influence as an organization. We also have the best update chasers in the game without any room for debate - the consistent 0s chases are proof enough there.
Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year: Legio Pacifica - Easily the largest and best-drilled of the military groups that don't subscribe to a specific R or D. Bonus points for commitment to anti-fascism.
UCR Region of the Year: The Order of The Grey Wardens
GCR Region of the Year: The South Pacific
Best New Region: The Snakes

Invasion of the Year: Nationstates
Defense of the Year: Either Christmas (November) or 143 Defenses in one update

Raider of the Year: Jo. Their dedication to stealth raiding and the numerous operations conducted by LWU over the year attest to Jo's organisational ability and position of leadership. Always a fantastic ally to have come on ops, Jo's contributions to raiding this year well and truly earn them a nomination for the award.

Defender of the Year: Split nomination for both Haku and Phoenix. Whenever my triggers were wide, or my moves slow, it was Haku's flag in the delegacy urging me to be better. Phoenix's coordination of the Phoenix Flock in an effort to liberate South Pacific demonstrated imo, the very best of Defending's ethos in practice.

Also Matthew for doing a good job attempting to get secret logs and just generally being cool.

Independent of the Year: Another split nom, for Sweeze and Frenchy. Sweeze's tagging accomplishments stand in their own right, alongside their enthusiastic participation in liberation attempts this year. Frenchy's performance in tags, on Lily ops and in liberations also easily qualifies them for a nomination.

Up and Coming Raider: Dax. Dax has been an absolute legend to work with this year, and her efforts in organising operations, training, leading tags and general all round raider things have been of the highest order.

Raider Military of the Year: TBH

Defender Military of the Year: Gonna go with TITO. Seeing them chase has made tags far, far more interesting.

Independent/Unaligned/Other Military of the Year: The North Pacific Army

UCR Region of the Year: The Leftist Assembly for their innovations in WA retention programs, and their assistance in assisting similar innovations across the NSLeft.

Invasion of the Year: South Pacific

Defense of the Year: Christmas
