World Hit Festival 56 - Sterblichengokai, Todlichebujoku

Postby Britonisea » Sun Dec 20, 2020 2:30 pm

Don't post anything :) The thread will be open soon.

Welcome to Todlichebujoku!

Firstly I would like to congratulate the efforts of Todlichebujoku for winning the 55th World Hit Festival, 33 editions after you last won. Ī Astoles won the 55th World Hit Festival with the song "Supernova" with 28 points after a wonderful contest held by Fromulya for the first time.

The 56th World Hit Festival is now here - something that many of have been waiting for. For the second time in World Hit Festival history, there will be an orchestral edition with only live music, headed by a full-sized philharmonic orchestra, being allowed to participate. It has been decided that we will return to Todlichebujoku for the first time in only 5 editions as we gear up for what is expected to be a fantastic edition of the World Hit Festival.

Who's going to win?

Guy Autriche
World Hit Festival Overseer

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries.

The World Hit Festival has had a very long history in NationStates, and a thread by the second overseer (Euskirribakondara) has been created to compile this long history. Click here for a thread with links to every OOC and IC thread of all World Hit Festivals so far. Click this for a statistical database of all WHF participants. For winners, click here to see a full list of all WHF winners with links to their entries.

Below you can find the rules of the 56th World Hit Festival!

Rules and Regulations...
ENTRIES
  1. This is an orchestra edition, please refer to the rules of this on the second post of this page.
  2. For an entry to be accepted, must have at least a tune and a complete set of lyrics. Incomplete, inappropriate or disorganised/unclear entries will not be accepted at the discretion of the host and the Overseer.
  3. Reserved RL Tunes Nations must not send a reserved tune from this list. Songs that have been reserved are those that have placed in the quintile of any participating Festival, including Junior World Hit Festival. Songs that do not place in the top quintile are reserved for a year from the IC date of the Festival. You can find all information, and more, by browsing that link. The Overseer will be responsible for checking tunes, with the host double-checking before transferring the entry to the IC.
  4. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
  5. In order for Semi Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 13 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
  6. The maximum amount of nations that can participate without more than one automatic qualifier (ie the host) is 18 nations per Semi-Final. Once this number has been broken, the top 6 (including the host) will automatically qualify to reduce 18 nations to 15 in each Semi.*1

CONTEST
  1. A nation is allowed to submit 2 puppets maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlled at most 3 nations in the contest.
  2. Users must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens. If users usually split their rankings across multiple participating nations (master and at least one puppet), they are free to provide only one ranking - provided it directly aligns with how many points given out across the user's participating nations. Otherwise, the user must send a ranking per participating nation they own. Rankings should not be displayed by any given user until after the Festival has been completed.
  3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
  4. When participating with multiple nations, users can only give themselves 8 points maximum. Votes will not be accepted if users give themselves, through any of their nations, more than 8 points.
  5. In the event of a tie, the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 6th places, 7th places etc.

HOSTING
  1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will have 72 hours (maximum) to announce their interest in hosting the Festival to the Overseer.
  2. The host can reveal they will host the World Hit Festival after talks with the Overseer on when to do this. It will still officially be announced on the WHF Network.
  3. If within the first 72 hours, the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, the nation who came 2nd will be asked and so on until it reaches the Overseer. The Overseer can give hosting responsibilities to a user placed below them if they are willing to host.
  4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
  5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

STERBLICHENGOKAI, TOLICHEBUJOKU
HOSTS OF THE 56TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL

[i]Sterblichengokai, also commonly known as Estegoa, is Tödlichebujoku's largest city and home to some of the nation's biggest cultural institutions. As the world of Jemaa's premier trade center for the past couple of centuries, the vast sums of money trading hands in Sterblichengokai has been a magnet for composers and artists looking for patrons to fund their professions, and many have made their names in the city. This atmosphere promoting the appreciation of the arts has cultivated a rich heritage in the city, persisting through various global and local conflicts, and even today amongst the myriad glassy bank towers and high-rise apartment buildings, the city's orchestra halls and opera houses continue to put on regular shows.

Draft Thread - 3rd January
Sign-ups close - 10th January
Closure of Draft - 17th January
Voting Deadline - 24th January

For WHF veterans, the sign-up form above will look very familiar as it is the same sign-up form for the past 35 or so editions. However, for debutantes, I have provided a sample application using WHF32's winning entry in a spoiler, with explanations in brackets.

Nation: Euskirribakondara (name of your nation goes here)
Broadcaster: EUSK1 (name of your broadcaster goes here, and this is usually your national broadcaster that would broadcast the WHF. For a real-life comparison, think of the BBC in the UK.)

Song Title: "По, Дај Ми Любавте" (name of your song)
Artist: Nadija Djokanović (the name of the artist that will 'perform' the song in your roleplay.)
Language(s): Sirbadian, Euskal, Hinga (the language(s) that your lyrics will be performed in)
Title Transcription (if required): "Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte" (if your song's language utilizes another script such as Cyrillic, you would put the romanization of that title here. In this example, По, Дај Ми Любавте is Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte. Otherwise, this part can be omitted.)
Title Translation (if required): Come On, Give Me Your Love (the translation of your song's title to English. If your song is in English already, this part can also be omitted.)
Tune: Here (most WHF tunes will have tunes attached to them, such as this entry using Poli Genova's If Love Was a Crime. If you are using a tune, do provide a link of the tune in this form. However, there are cases in which users do not submit a tune and use self-penned songs, in which case, filling out this part is not required.

GUIDELINES ON PARTICIPATING AT THE 56th WORLD HIT FESTIVAL

  • First and foremost, all nations must follow the basic rules of the World Hit Festival and this includes providing a full ranking during the voting.
  • All nations must provide the name of their conductor. Delegations can converse with others to use the same conductor as another delegation.
  • All backing vocals must be performed live (ICly) and so does all the instruments. Thus, computer-generated sounds will not be disallowed.
  • Nations must use elements of core orchestral instruments before they use secondary or tertiary instruments.
  • Below is a list of core orchestral instruments that will be available for use in Todlichebujoku;

    OTHER
    - Grand Piano
    - Harp

    STRINGS
    - Violin
    - Viola
    - Cello
    - Doublebass

    WOODWIND
    - Flute
    - Piccolo
    - Oboe
    - Cor Anglais
    - Clarinete
    - Bass Clarinet
    - E Flat Clarinet
    - Contrabass Clarinet
    - Bassoon
    - Contrabassoon
    - Saxophone

    BRASS
    - Horn
    - Trumpet
    - Trombone
    - Bass Trombone
    - Tuba

    PERCUSSION
    - Timpani
    - Other Percussion (including Triangles, Tambourines, Xylophones - click for more)
  • Other instruments are allowed at the 56th World Hit Festival as long as they are live. These are secondary orchestral instruments and the team in Todlichebujoku will provide them. These instruments should be used in conjunction with primary orchestral instruments.
    - Guitar
    - Electric Guitar
    - French Horn
    - Drumkit (including snare drum, bass drum and cymbals)
  • Other instruments are allowed at the 56th World Hit Festival as long as they are live. These (tertiary) instruments will be provided by each delegation but must be approved by the Overseer. The inclusion of these instruments will be heavily scrutinised before accepted. These instruments should be used in conjunction with primary orchestral instruments.
    - Harpsichord
    - Glockenspiel
    - Sleighbells
    - Tapboard
    - Traditional Folk Instruments (etc banjos, harmonicas and ukeleles)
    - Traditional National Instruments of Delegations (please include traditional instruments you have in your sign up post).

As you can see, there are loads of instruments to go for. I'd encourage nations not to be stuck in the mind of orchestral instruments = typical shouty orchestral ballads necessarily, something I'd say the majority of people went for last time. You can do so, so much with these instruments. A great place to get inspiration is of course FiK - you got to remember this banger came from an orchestral setup!

Now it's time to look back at the 55th WHF and find out how each nation ranked you!

The Venue

Image

Welcome to A Ergasia Vadonixa! While the royal house of Lagoa is now merely a member of the governing Regents of Tödlichebujoku, the Ergasia Vadonixa harks back to an era of opulence, one where Lagoa was the center of the civilized world, comparable only to Liberuia across the strait. Nowadays, the opera house still puts on shows, attracting both tourists from around the world and the upper crust of Estegoan society, firmly progressing into the modern age while still nodding to its noble roots with an annual masquerade ball just before the winter solstice. While it certainly had its fair share of struggles through the wars and societal changes of the last century, the dedication of the institution's directors and patrons have managed to keep it running and revitalized into the present day.

Image
The entirety of the steps and rear platform will be available for use; there will be no audience seated in the stage area

For the festivities set for this edition of the World Hit Festival, we have prepared a rather radical treatment of the traditional opera stage. The stage itself consists of two elevations connected by a wide stairway, with the lower platform containing the orchestra pit, and allows for performers to come up close to the audience. In order to create a more vibrant stage presence, some of the box seats near the stage have been used for the placement of large displays. Thanks to new advances in thaumaturgy, these displays can be easily seen through from the seating behind, but not from the other side, allowing for the seats to still be usable and enjoyable for those seated. The stage itself features the usual run of stage effects: mist, wind, various types of lighting, holographic effects, pyrotechnics, and fire. The latter two are slightly more restricted than in the usual venue due to the age and flammability of the hall's structure, but are still available for use nonetheless.

In the Folkandish internal selection for the WorldVision Song Contest 87 entries from the Western State of Lotnuscora and The Eastern State of Rusmailica were rejected. However Folkandish broadcaster AVF (Audio and Vision for Folkanders) and the recording company FolkAuds has recently decided to let these two countries participate in the following edition of WHF. The rejected songs couldn't be sent because of the rules of the orchestral edition but the previously chosen contestant has been allowed to enter another songs written especially for this show.
Shifra is a folk-rock band from Mescul, city in Lotnuscora. They have been chosen as a Lotnuscoran debut in WHF with the song called "Cosmos".

A Hit For The World: Alexandre to represent Britonisea in Sterblichengokai with "Enchanté"

Image Image
Nice to meet you, Alex: "Enchanté" will be the first Britonish WHF song to contain French, one of the nation's official languages...

ALEXANDRE AUGUSTIN - ENCHANTÉ

Britonisea returns to the World Hit Festival for the 36th time, sending the song "Enchanté" sung by the wonderfully talented 19-year-old Alexandre Augustin, hoping to resurrect the nation's reputation as always a contender for the trophy.

Britonisea's results took another dip last edition when AIDA represented the country with her song, "My Final Promise." AIDA finished in 7th with 15 points which is the lowest amount of points the nation has received since the 51st World Hit Festival. The Britonish fandom is still very much reeling from Britonisea's sudden dive in results, which happens after they got complacent with Britonisea's consistent 20+ streak the nation had, with the points haul for not only the country but the contest reaching new heights when the country won at the 50th World Hit Festival with 51 points - a record that is still held to this day. Recently, Britonisea has struggled to get to the top five, with the nation's results sitting in 10th, 6th and 7th place but there's mounting pressure on those that run the BVC World Hit Festival team to do better. The most recent World Hit Festival competition that happened was that of the Junior one, with Britonisea coming in 3rd place overall which might be good news before the 56th World Hit Festival in Todlichebujoku, however, Britonisea did finish 11th in the Jury vote which shows that perhaps the broadcaster needs to think more about appealing to what can be the picky tastes of the Jury.

Britonisea knows that it has the support of the televoters of the World Hit Festival but they needed a song that could appeal to both - they needed to find the winning formula. It wasn't as though BVC didn't know how to - the nation's 7 previous wins continues the hope that the team has when going into each World Hit Festival alive. The 2nd orchestra edition of the World Hit Festival is finally here and it marks 10 editions since the very marmite "Dangerously in Love" sung by Vhe Qi won the Festival. Who would the title of the best orchestral nation at the World Hit Festival be this time around? BVC is hoping that with Alex's song, that title will be kept in Doportedas. Unlike previous editions, which had a long drawn out artist picking process, Alex's appointment as the Britonish representative was a rather swift one with The Team arguing that Alex has the look and vibe that they were going for. They wanted to go for something markedly different from what they went for the last time - wanting to keep the international community on their toes.

Alexandre "Alex" Augustin (b. 25th July 2001) is a boy who's only 19 years old which makes Alex the youngest Britonish World Hit Festival participant. He is from Eaux City in the North-East of the mainland where French is most prominent hence the rather French feel of his name. Like many of the previous World Hit Festival participants, Alexandre has a background in music - with his foster parents both being part of the Eauian Orchestral, where his foster mother was focused on the strings and his foster father who is a well-known Britonish pianist. With his background fit for the orchestral edition of the Festival and his own ventures in the orchestra and singing, BVC had headhunted Alex's foster father and asked him whether he and his family would be interested in producing the song for the upcoming World Hit Festival which we now know would take place in Todlichebujoku. Alex's foster father went onto ask Alex himself who said that he would be happy to write the song as long as he had creative freedom in terms of lyrics and melody. Alex had a childhood unlike many of the boys and girls around him and that's something that he was more than eager to write about. He polished the song with the help of his father and his mother before recording it with the Grand Philharmonic Orchestra in Eaux days before this announcement.

Alexandre performed his song on BVC's hour-long show, A Hit For The World (7pm - 8pm) with an audience of 4 million expected to watch his first televised performance. The song would then go live on all popular music streaming platforms at 8pm. While it may be too late for Alex to get the Christmas #1 on Friday, he is hoping that he will be able to make some sort of impact on the charts as soon as possible.

Britonisea is the 14th nation to reveal their song for the upcoming World Hit Festival, with other major nations such as last edition's winner, Todlichebujoku, making us wait just that extra bit longer to see Britonisea's chances.

Axuva Today Network [ATN] Today we announce that the Axuvian Government now recognizes The Russian Language as an Official Language, Korean and English were spoken in the beginning, but there were Russians too, russians were forgotten and their language were not recognized due to the things they did in the past, but now their language is a official language of Axuva, and there will now be 3 official languages instead of two.

Usage of Tertiary Instruments: Rebana (traditional percussion instrument). As an extra note, the band members plan to bring their own instruments: some of the aforementioned rebanas, some electric guitars, an electric bass, and a violin. Although the RL tune involves a keyboard, the sounds produced are similar enough to sounds that can be created by an orchestra, and so I will RP that these sounds are made by the orchestra.
