Sorthen Football League, 2039 season

International

Yes, yes, there isn't usually an international section here, but the Sorthern Football League has finally made it into the big time. The transfer of no less than four Sorthern players to QuinTel Not-Really-Very-Premier League has certainly been the story of the season. Upon the completion of the four transfers tongues were set wagging with an SNFA spokesman proclaiming, “The transfer of these players marks a new era in Sorthern football as Sortherners continue to make their names in leagues around the world. We've long had players in leagues such as Cafundéu's First Division and Candelaria And Marquez's Soccer Championship, but to see four players going across to Quintessence of Dust's QuinTel Not-Really-Very-Premier-League really is the big fat juicy cherry on top of the rather delicious cake. It is an exciting league, and these are exciting times for Sorthern football.”

The four players making their way to Quintessence of Dust (for transfer fees involing large numbers of juicy kumquats reportedly) are Adam Gropecunt who moves to Highmark City based Wow! Health & Fitness FC, Danilo Pignatro and Siobhan Ní hÓgáin who both go to Highmark City Blues and last and certainly not least Ben O'Bagels' daughter Laura who moves to Highmark City Reds, who'll be in the Moo Maid Top League t next season having suffered relegation from the Not-Really-Very-Premier League. Despite this she was still excited by the challenge saying “It's good to be somewhere I can actually get a contract and show I'm good enough to play for my country and sadly until the institutionalised sexism in the Sorthern Football League ends I won't be able to do that at home. But it's great to be here in Quintessence of Dust, it's a really exciting challenge and hopefully I'll be able to make my name here as a footballer”.

Excitement about the moves is also high for the general populace with as stores around the country reported a sharp rise in television sales (some stores reported as many as fourteen customers in a single day) following the announcement that SNTV would be getting to gain the rights to broadcast QuinTel Not-Really-Very-Premier League matches in Sorthern Northland.

Elsewhere in international club football Sorthern clubs made significant progress in the international club cup competitions. Snowspire became only the second Sorthern club to ever progress from the group stage of the TakilQuip Champions Cup, they were however knocked out in the first knockout round eventual champions CS Lac-Amédée, though only after extra-time. Castrograd meanwhile having lost in the fourth preliminary round of the Champions Cup went into the group stage of the Globe Cup where the finished behind San Solari of Commerce Heights but above Valanora's Mar Sara and Quintessence of Dust's BobBank FC to qualify for the knock-out rounds. There they made their way past Vephrall's Boalluns FE, Ad'ihan's Grand Arsenal, Candelaria And Marquez's Caires City (though only on away goals), and Valanora's FC Capri to become first Sorthern team to reach an international club cup competition final. Once there they went on to beat the Vephrese (though some commentators seemed to think Kura-Pellandi, their defence so far consists of “well they are neighbouring countries) side Poikimitagiin FE to become the first Sorthern team to lift the Globe Cup (or any of the international club cup competition for that matter). Which some might consider a bigger story than four players joining Quintessential clubs.

Shield

And with the international excitement over and done with we move to the cesspool of pointlessness that is the season opener. So pointless in fact that it is rumoured that the SNFA to have tried convincing the Septentrionian FA to host it. Not even they wanted it, so it stayed in Beningrad.

Rode Ster Amsterdam 2-0 Snowspire

Division One

At the halfway stage of the season it looked as Snowspire winning the league was merely Corcaigh lending them the trophy for a year. Top by eight points and with a far superior goal difference to everyone it looked as if all that could stop them would be their team getting struck down with swine flu. Which fortunately the rest of the division is exactly what happened. With a number of their key players missing for the next four games due to the currently in fashion illness they dropped eight points, allow Leningrad team 17th of October right back into the title race. Still recovering from the swine flu outbreak in the club, Corcaigh went on to drop twelve points in a five game spell that put 17th of October eleven points ahead of them. The last game of that spell was probably the killer in Corcaigh's hunt for the title. They lost five one. At home. To 17th of October. From their on in 17th remained untroubled for the title and in the end won it by a margin of ten points.

Second Division

The Second Division looked set to be in for one hell of a title race with two of the biggest teams in the country, Septentrionien de Finistère and Beningrad being relegated from the First Division last season. Neither of them were able to adapt however, with both at one point being right in the relegation mix. Septentrionien in particular struggled, spending a large part of the season anchored to the bottom of the table. This season will have served as a stark reminder to both clubs that if they don't go up next season, they could well be getting used to the second tier. If they even manage to stay that high up.

Third Division

The key to success this season, it seems is to be on an island. Ibibis Isle won the division, whilst An Blascaod Mór win promotion courtesy of third place (this season they even managed to not have anyone die on the boat trip back to the mainland). For a whole though it seemed the key would be have your name begin with T as Tetherton, Tiletston Rovers and Tioka & Weybridge spent a large part of the season being the top three. Of those only Tetherton were able to remain there at the end of the season.

Division Four

The bottom tier saw perhaps its most competitive season yet. Whilst Bannabridge won it by six points in the end, most of the season was spent with the top sport constantly changing hands and the difference between first and second being two points or less. Goal difference also played a big part as Esteghal Roudbahahr finished equal to second on points, but missed out on promotion due to a small goal difference. Sixth placed Dynamo Heltzburg meanwhile finished just two points off promotion despite finishing sixth.

For the first time the relegation play-off saw a contest that didn't wind up to be a foregone conclusion. A last minute winner in the first league proved to be key after Mandalan had to come from two nil down to draw the second leg and win the tie and keep their place in the SFL with a four three victory on aggregate.

Dreyher Island League

Oast Orient look to have regained their stranglehold on the Dreyher Island League after losing out on the title for the first time in five years last season. Already nine points behind, Huntscove looked to have given themselves a chance of turning the season around when they beat Oast 5-1 on matchday 15. Instead it only served to inspire Oast to win the remaining four games and to win the league by eighteen points.

Sorthern Cup

Whilst Corcaigh continue to suffer what to them is a severe drought in the league there were able to make up for that slightly as well as to overcome the swine flu outbreak that derailed their title challenge to win their first Sorthern Cup beating last seasons league champions, Snowspire by two goals to nil in the final. Oh the non-League clubs Terondiz made it the furthest eventually losing 3-2 after extra time to Baile an Fheirtéaraigh in the fifth round.

And speaking of the next IUCC, please note that the next edition is scheduled for 13 August. If that sounds really close, it's because, well, this last one dragged out a bit longer than usual. Coming up, the SuperLiga’s final standings. First a look at how the archipelago’s last two clubs standing fared in the group stages of the Globe Cup.

El Nacional’s third appearance ended in much the same way as the first two, with a distinct failure to go any further. Despite home and away defeats to D-League side Sporting Kildare, with Sargossa internationals Carlos Candela and Marcos García Fernández in their ranks, and Ad’ihan’s Dalinn Wanderers the Gozan giants managed to snatch a few headlines with an impressive 4 – 2 win at FC Cap-Phare. That was about it.

With plenty of global cup expertise in the dugout in the form of Canderlariasian coach Hane Davies it was no real surprise that Ciudad Soluca’s first outing in the group stage went quite well. They beat group winners Boalluns FE in Soluca and even picked up a win in Davies’ old stomping ground of Caires, albeit against the city’s other side, Caires Sport. They eventually missed out by a single point.

So to the domestic game and what’s this? A SuperLiga season not all wrapped up with weeks left to go. Are you quite sure? Yes it actually happened, the title race went right down to the last game with reigning champions Sporting San Marquez and surprise package Deportivo Soluca battling it out at the top. Sporting could have secured the title four days earlier when they played their game in hand. And after the Larissan side raced into a two goal lead at the Estadio Silva over mid table Defensor the celebrations started. Prematurely as it turned out. Goals from Manzano and Expósito levelled the game, leaving Sporting still two points clear of Deportivo with a single game to go.

There would be drama at the foot of the table too as fallen giants Petro Mercada and Alianza Jucaro, both mired in the relegation zone at the halfway point, fought desperately to claw themselves away from the trapdoor. Both had put together five game unbeaten runs ahead of the last round of fixtures but both still lay in the danger zone at kickoff time. Newly promoted Machela Del Norte were the side looking nervously over their shoulder. One of the three would be starting next season in the Segunda.

With tens of millions glued to their televisions up and down the country the final round of fixtures kicked of . . .

1 min: Blink and you miss it. Barroso puts Defensor in front straight from the kickoff against Santos at the Drill Square.

2 mins: Dínamo’s Globe Cup chances have faded away and Navarro’s goal for the Rojo won’t have improved the mood at the Ciudad Deportiva.

4 mins: No pressure on relegated Rubio and it shows as Alberto Caserio rounds Muro to put the home side in front in Bayamo.

5 mins: The little upstarts are at it again. Juventudé in front at home to Ciudad and it’s Muñoz’s 24th of the season.

7 mins: Sporting are looking good to retain the title, particularly after Ordóñez fires them ahead in Cordova.

8 mins: Upstarts? Pah! Javier Pozo latches onto a knock down to equalise for Ciudad.

10 mins: An equaliser for Santos through on loan Sporting striker Galán.

10 mins: El Nacional’s Mata’s deflected drive beats Queer Poco el Mona Ara number one Petr Ollic at El Torrigal.

14 mins: Sérgio Costa looks like being the next diamond unearthed by Mercadel. His header from a corner puts the Islanders in front in Porto Alegro.

27 mins: Barroso at the double as Defensor edge in front again.

28 mins: Ibáñez pokes in from close range to level for the Azul against Mercadel.

31 mins: Batista’s twenty yard pile driver empathically levels for Dínamo in Maturín.

45 mins: Last action of the half and Canderlariasian world cup winner Zachery Adekunde has buried a header past Jaffré to give Ciudad the lead.

47 mins: Poconese international Edmundo side foots home number 21 of a very profitable season to level for Estrella at home to El Nacional.

48 mins: It’s looking bleak for the home side at the Petro Dome. Fontova’s 12th of the season has given S.C. Goza the lead in Mercada.

48 mins: Mercadel’s lightning start to the second half is rewarded with Costa’s second goal at the Estadio Azul.

54 mins: Cracking game going on at the top flight’s littlest ground with Defensor now 3 – 1 up though Fernández.

61 mins: Don’t count them out just yet. Ruiz equalises for Petro.

73 mins: They’ve turned it around. Beltrán puts Petro in front and drags them out of the relegation zone.

73 mins: Title race back on! Kinda. Matías Ramírez levels for the hosts against Sporting.

76 mins: Second goal in three minutes as Sánchez Cano grabs a third for Petro.

80 mins: Crucial goal at both ends as Escalada comes off the bench to drill Deportivo in front at the ediraf. They’re level with Sporting now and opponents Alianza are heading down.

83 mins: Rubio’s disappointing season looks at least like ending on a high with Laínez doubling their lead from the penalty spot against Dunas Del Sol.

90+ mins: A late goal or two in either Soluca or Cordova would have had major repercussions at both ends of the table but there would be no late dramas. Sporting hung on in Cordova to take the point they needed to retain the title. Petro’s win and Alianza’s defeat mean the side from Mercada leap over their Jucaro counterparts to safety.

There are swift returns to the SuperLiga for Moruga S.C. and Jaguarés. And the city of Maturín will host a top flight derby for the first time in twenty one years with Sportivo’s promotion from the Segunda.

A week after the final round of league fixtures Mercadal S.C. secured the final place in the Globe Cup with a 2 – 0 win over Porto Alegro Azul in the final of the Copa Sargossa at the ediraf. Marquezian Roberto Rodríguez and Alejandro Batalla got the goals for Juan Manuel Del Rios’ side.

Kingdom of Dancougar College Football
Season Capsules: 2045/46 Competition, 2046/47 Classification

2045/46: Last in, first out: Whenever they break down the tournament field, DSPN analysts like to talk about the teams on the bubble. Twenty four automatically qualify as conference champs and then sixteen more are chosen for a play-in round, and there's rarely ever a consensus. Each analyst has their own idea of who are the last four teams in and the first four teams out, depending on how results go on the final day. There was, however, a surprising agreement on the position of Granger Island College. At third place in the Helmut Collegiate Premier League, their 7-3-4 record was barely good enough to squeak in. They were the last team chosen by the selection committee, so little was expected of them.

The University of Shikibu was the No. 1 team in the country after rolling through the South Central at 13-2-1, putting a commanding 16-point gap between themselves and second-place Benton. The poor campaign by frequent challengers Shiratori and Kinnikun was a disappointment, but Shikibu were too strong in any case. Shapiro State was arguably stronger at 11-2-1 in the Shapiro CPL, with the nation's best goal difference doing the talking.

So there they were, the 40th name in the hat, Granger Island going up against Akatsuki in the first round. The teams swapped 2-0 wins to force a penalty shootout, which Granger would win. Little did the fans know that it was foreshadowing of greater victories to come. Helmut's other at-large team, Branstein, also did well in the opening round, taking down No. 12 Kildare Maritime with a 1-0 road win making all the difference. All of the opening round ties were close with the exception of Chastain's 7-0 demolition of Inbit, although they would fall at the next hurdle.

Once again, it was one and done for No. 1. Shikibu were beaten by No. 13 Thane after the teams swapped away wins, but Thane's 3-1 in the first leg was enough and they outlasted their opponents 4-3. That was hardly considered an upset, though, as Thane were only two years removed from a national championship. The biggest tie of the second round was, by consensus, the matchup between No. 5 Dancougar Royal Academy and No. 7 Neville Island. The Royal Academy's road win in the first leg had their fans smelling the Sweet Sixteen, but they imploded in Yuki City. Down 3-0 at halftime, they never recovered, and Neville won 4-1 to go through 4-2 on aggregate.

Hazuki State, who downed Chastain 1-0, were starting to look good. A 5-2 aggregate win over No. 16 Pollock put them back in the quarterfinals, where they ran into Wean State, the unlikely conquerers of No. 4 Pembrooke Academy. Wean had put on a show for its home fans, winning 3-2 in the second leg of their Sweet Sixteen matchup, and in the quarterfinals against Hazuki State, they did it again: 3-1 at home saw them through. Neville Island and Granger Island also advanced to the quarterfinals, giving Lake Gandor excellent representation in the finals. But only Granger would survive, as Neville Island were beaten twice by No. 25 Hibiki.

The semifinals ensured that the title game would be a ranked team against an unranked one. Wean State had managed two quarterfinal appearances in the last three seasons, and now the semifinals... could they take that final step? Not against Granger Island, who sidestepped Wean's home magic and won 3-2 on aggregate. Their opponents would be No. 18 Eastern Desugaia University, 3-2 winners over Hibiki. That set up a tense final, a seesaw battle that ended 2-2 and went to penalties. The Desugaians missed their first two and never recovered; Granger Island College became the first champion from the Helmut CPL.

IUCC, from top to bottom: At IUCC 16, two of Dancougar's three teams made their way into the knockout stage and Pine Bluffs State eventually took the world title over Vephrall's Western Shentarong. The 1-0 scoreline proved that there was little between the teams, but it seemed like college football was still going strong. It was also a great story for Pine Bluffs, a small school isolated in the woods of nothern Zorbados. The long distances they had to travel for matches and the small home crowds didn't seem to faze them.

But then they found themselves embroiled in controversy after they failed to qualify for IUCC 17. They failed to make the tournament by finishing 6-1-9 in the Big West, but the IUCC still extended an invitation for them to defend their title. It was not the first time that a defending champion from Dancougar had failed to earn their way back and were gifted a slot, but this time, it did not come at the expense of another team. The IUCC committee granted Dancougar a special fourth slot and placed Pine Bluffs in the qualifying round, where they breezed into the final tournament after four matches against Strawberry Fields and 229 University.

But the decision didn't seem to sit well with any of the other schools in the tournament, who played even harder against the Dancougarans. Perhaps they decided it was time to send a message to the College Alliance that they weren't all that, and the special treatment was not approved. Of the four teams in the group stage, only Hazuki State escaped, and they did so as one of the best second-place teams. They lost 2-1 to North Bektys there, and in the quarterfinals, the two met once again. Bektys won 1-0, and for the first time under the current format, no Dancougar team made it to the IUCC semifinals.

Hazuki flies high at SBCC: In addition to being Dancougar's best team at the IUCC, Hazuki State University also went the deepest of all the alliance's entrants into the Series B Champions' Cup. Both Chastain and Katya City won their first round ties, but both were stomped at the next stage. Southport City needed away goals to join Hazuki State in the group stage, but they felt proud of their accomplishment, a 3-3 victory over Forest Hills of Jasiyun. No doubt the school played up the result by playing up the team's membership in the strong Paripanian system.

But as it turned out, Southport were actually a dangerous side in the tournament. In Group B, SC Filwarfin of Pasarga were left in the dust while Southport slugged it out with the other two teams for advancement. One of the strangest things analysts noticed about the group was the polarity. Every single match was a shutout, and in the end, tiebreakers were needed to separate Southport and FC Longview. Longview's 3-0 home win was superior to Southport's 1-0 result, so they had to settle for third despite a strong showing with 10 points.

Hazuki State only managed eight in their group, but that was enough to advance over Hogwang and New Cefn Albion. The group belonged to the Chorion Bluffs Knights, whose only defeat was 1-0 during a visit to the Alfred Nomura Stadium in Chuuoushi. That put them through to the knockouts, where they wrecked Areck Furness in both matches, winning 4-1 on aggregate to set up a match with Septentrionia's Richelieu AC. This time, Hazuki State were on the wrong end of a pair of defeats, bowing out to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals.

2046/47: Is two titles a dynasty? An incredible observation of the college system in Dancougar is the remarkable parity. There are 216 teams that compete in 24 leagues, and in 27 seasons, only two teams have won multiple titles, and each at least ten years apart. In that context, two titles in four seasons is nothing short of extraordinary. Thane College was nobody's pick to win a title after going 8-1-5 in the Shiba Valley. That was good enough for an at-large bid, and as Granger Island had shown in the previous year, that's really all you need. Speaking of the champs, they followed up on their title by improving from third to second in the Helmut CPL. Once again, they didn't wow anybody, but they played efficient football and nobody doubted their place in the tournament.

Concannon and Akatsuki raised a big stink over being omitted in favor of arguably weaker Baptista and Deimon City teams, while once again, there were big hauls by the Lunarossa CPL and Big East. It was getting to the point where that sort of thing was expected, and their opponents would sort out the imbalance by winning in the opening round.

Mugen Bend State College 0-1 (#17) Barynsk College
(#12) Baum State College 3-4 (#14) University of Zorbados
Deimon City College 3-2 (#18) Granger Island College
Baptista College 2-3 (#25) Coraopolis University
Yuki State at Helmsley 3-4 (#23) University of Fujiwara
Thane College 4-3 Gabthley University
(#10) Amada University 2-3 (#21) Craig State College
(#8) Stanwix College 1-3 (#22) University of Shikibu

Sure enough, two of Lunarossa's teams were down when Standiwx and Baum State bowed out. At least some face was saved when Craig State advanced from a showdown with Big East beast Amada University, 3-2. The shock of the round was Deimon City proving that they belonged, dismissing the champs 3-2 on aggregate.

(#19) Raizon College 6-2 (#4) Amesborough College
(#25) Coraopolis University 4-4p (#15) Chastain College
(#17) Barynsk College 2-6 Hibiki University
Seanor City College 5-3 (#6) Katya City College
Grandborough Tech 2p-2 (#20) Frickstowne College
(#7) University of Shiba at Grandborough 5-6 (#24) Kasai Academy
(#23) University of Fujiwara 3p-3 Reyes Academy
Thane College 4-3 (#22) University of Shikibu
Donneley College 5-3 Akasaka University
(#1) Shadyside Academy 4-2 Eastern Desugaia University
(#3) Bremley College 3-4 (#9) Berkeley State University
(#14) University of Zorbados 1-2 (#21) Craig State College
(#16) Kanata State College 4-2 (#2) Schwartzer College
(#5) Dancougar Royal Academy 1-5 Zane Island State College
Purnell College 4-2 Deimon City College
(#13) Trafford Technical Institute 5-2 (#11) Pleasanton College

Well, so much for that, as Demon City were downed by Purnell. More exciting for fans was the fact that No. 1 survived the opening round, as Shadyside got past previous finalist Eastern Desugaia 4-2. But other top seeds were dropping like flies. No. 2 Schwartzer were done. No. 3 Bremley bowed down to No. 9 Berkeley in a highly-charged tie. No. 4 Amesborough were pummeled into submission, and it was even worse for No. 5 Dancougar Royal Academy. It was actually Berkeley who joined Shadyside as the only surviving Top Ten teams.

Grandborough Tech 3-4 (#16) Kanata State College
(#9) Berkeley State University 2-4 (#1) Shadyside Academy
(#24) Kasai Academy 6-4 Hibiki University
Thane College 3-2 Donneley College
(#15) Chastain College 2-1 Zane Island State College
(#13) Trafford Technical Institute 2-5 Seanor City College
(#21) Craig State College 4-5 Purnell College
(#23) University of Fujiwara 2-0 (#19) Raizon College

And of course, the random draw conspired that the two would meet in the quarterfinals. Shadyside were on the right end of that one, a pair of 2-1 wins seeing them through to the quarterfinals. But with the field now wide open, the entertainment value went up as teams went for broke. No. 24 Kasai and Hibiki put up ten goals in their two legs, and it was such that Hibiki's 3-0 win in the second leg hardly put a dent in Kasai's advantage. Purnell squeaked past No. 21 Craig State in a nine-goal thriller.

(#15) Chastain College 2-1 Purnell College
Seanor City College 2-0 (#23) University of Fujiwara
Thane College 2-0 (#16) Kanata State College
(#1) Shadyside Academy 0-2 (#24) Kasai Academy

Seanor City and Thane were cruising under the radar, but people took notice after they shut down their quarterfinal opponents. Shadyside's loss to Kasai ensured that the Big East and Lunarossa were once again shut out of the big game despite ponying up the most competitors. Purnell's run ended at the hands of No. 15 Chastain, who were starting to feel good about their chances of winning the school's first title.

Seanor City College 6-5 (#24) Kasai Academy
Thane College 4-3 (#15) Chastain College

Or not. But there was no doubting the quality of the victors. Although they may have been unranked, each turned up the pressure when it mattered. Seanor City lost the first leg at home 3-2, giving Kasai a food in the final. As if the loss wasn't bad enough, three away goals were almost impossible to make up, right? Well, they went up 3-0 at halftime in the second leg and held on for a 4-2 victory, giving them a 6-5 aggregate victory. Elsewhere, Thane won their first leg 3-1 at home and saw it evaporate in the first half at Chastain. Now 3-3 and disadvantaged on away goals, Thane needed a miracle. An 83rd-minute strike made it 4-3 and sent them into the final.

Collegiate Grand Final
Seanor City College 1-2 Thane College

The championship game could have been a letdown after the exciting semifinals which preceded it, but Thane and Seanor City did not disappoint. A tense, scoreless first half gave way to a free-flowing second, as the floodgates opened on a series of goals. Thane got two in quick succession and held off a frantic comeback to win their second title in four years, giving them some claim to the best program in recent memory.

Dancougar annouces international qualifiers: There would be no problems with the IUCC this year, with no defending champion out of Dancougar to muck up the works. The College Alliance has announced, however, that should a team from Dancougar win a future IUCC, it will grand them one of the slots at the expense of the other teams in order to avoid the situation in IUCC 17.

The biggest movement was Seanor City turning down their placement at SBCC2 in order to participate in the IUCC instead, which bumped up Shadyside Academy.

IUCC1: Thane College (national champion)
IUCC2: Seanor City College (national finalist; deferred SBCC2)
IUCC3: #24 Kasai Academy (College Alliance selection; national semifinalist)

SBCC1: Thane College (national champion)
SBCC2: #1 Shadyside Academy (regular season #1; national quarterfinalist)
SBCC3: #15 Chastain College (fan voting; national semifinalist)
SBCC4: #23 University of Fujisawara (College Alliance selection; national quarterfinalist)

Presenting The Inaugural Horreur League Live and Undead from Pays de Horreur

The 20 teams who will battle it out are....

Minara Raiders – Out in the desert of Minara stands the magnificent pyramids where grave robbers and treasure seekers have awoken the deceased King’s. The revived mummified corpses of Ancient Pharaoh’s and their slaves have risen and with their gold stolen look to reclaim some by winning the Horreur League.

Skivash Wolves – Lycanthropy – becoming a werewolf, brings with it increased strength, speed and agility. The team consists entirely of werewolves with the Alpha male Bane acting as team captain. Whether stalking prey or prowling the box the Wolves are an attack minded team expect goals galore as they play a 4-2-4 formation.

St. Judas Insanatorium – Pays De Horreur is not just a nation of nightmare creatures, humans live here as well. But as any sociologist will tell you, man is the biggest monster of all. St. Judas enters the league with a team of criminally insane patients just because they need the exercise. Throw-ins have become an issue with straight jackets, as has goal keeping, expect them to leak goals.

Ordsall Giants – Not technically giants, but standing at an average height of 8ft these behemoths are a big challenge (no pun). Not blessed with much technical ability or pace they stand tall and make a supremely difficult team to break down defensively. Expect goals to come from corners.

Venmore Greenskins – Goblins make up a minor component of Pays de Horreur inhabitants, but enough to have a football team. These mischievous man-size monsters are known to cheat and cause general aggravation, but other than being a nuisance don’t expect much of them.

Z.Z. Zombies – Zombification is rife in Pays de Horreur and Z.Z. Zombies are one of the bigger zombie teams. Expect them to attack in numbers, weak defensively and slow down the wings. Die hard fans can be killed with a single shot to the head.

Blackwell Darkwings – The “true-blood” vampires only team. Born vampires consider football a ridiculous game and beyond their noble pursuits, however a small outside faction of the younger set like to utilize their enhanced speed and strength to play sports. And to prove their dominance over the “converted” vampires.

Thelwell 666ers – A group of Satanists whose interests go beyond chanting, fire and devil worship. Humans with no added abilities, so average right across the board. The fans can be a little crazed and often flares or goat’s heads will go off in the stands.

Trioxin Labs– Trioxin somehow got into the ground and “revitalized” a few of the undead citizens of Pays de Horreur. Feeling a tad at fault for the whole incident OriginChemicals who own Trioxin employed the shambling hordes and created a work force football team. Another zombie team, similarly lacking pace with a terrible defense.

Colt Valley Titans – Similar stature to the giants, just lacking one eye. The cycloptic team struggle with their depth perception and as such goal keeping, throwing and even kicking the ball proves difficult. But with most of the team towering over 8.5ft their sheer size makes them formidable opponents.

Coxsmith Magic – With their abilities limited to maintain competitiveness Coxsmith Magic are a team of genies. Don’t expect them to do much, with their magic capabilities restricted they are essentially semi-gaseous masses of potential.

Blackwell Renegades – Transformed into vampires in the town of Blackwell, the Renegades formed as an anti-establishment team looking to disrupt the “true-bloods” in the Horreur League. Another team with enhanced pace, strength and agility the Renegades are a good team who a lot can be expected from.

Abmorph Rangers – A well assembled team, with assembled acting as the operative word. Dr. Caine put together the Rangers from parts of professional sports people he believed would be beneficial for football. Well rounded players, each with a footballing brain. Their downfall is their lack of freewill which has those lacking instruction standing aimlessly.

Blackwell Cavaliers
– A consignment of Trioxin somehow made its way into the barracks of the Blackwell Cavaliers and infected all the soldiers. Athletic, strong and regimented but at the core still just zombies. The well drilled team will make life difficult for the enemy and will do all in their zombie minds to meet their objective.

Portdiabolic Buccaneers – Human mercenaries after the greatest prize available in Pays de Horreur. Possessed by demonic spirits the buccaneers do the bidding of the demon controlling them, which is simply to win the Horreur League. If they prove capable they will be released from the possession of the spirit.

Abmorph Ravens – Goth inspired vampires may not be the most obvious of football fans, but dressed entirely in black and brooding over their poor goal difference they make passionate fans. The team reflects the fans and often loses interest in a game and prefer to sit in the dark, smoke a cigarette and drink Chartreuse.

Cobalt Lake Grizzlies – Grizzly by name, grizzly by nature, the bigger hairier cousins of the Skivash Wolves the CL Grizzlies are strong, fast and mean. They can tear through a defence and are very tactically minded, often attacking in a large group.

Skivash Marauders – Skeletal remains don’t make the most solid of defenders but doing the bidding of their master they do a great job. The vampire lord Malavesh commands his XI soldiers and substitutes go forth and win the league and prove his dalliances in the black arts were worth their while.

West Gismark Buffalos – Part man part bull, Minotaurs aren’t very good at football, with a habit of chasing the ball and leaving massive gaps in defence. Don’t anticipate them making a charge up the league as their attacking leaves something to be desired.

Fangor Angels – Satan’s minions or not, these players were once angels. Direct rivals of the 666ers whose chanting and sacrificing of goats is too theatrical for those who fell from heaven. Wingless and without wingers, the Angels play a 5-3-2 and play deep defence.

Team- Olympia Gladiators
Predicted Finish- 1st
Top three Players- Jason Hargrove (GK), Paul Barclay (Dancougar)- D, Michael Bosler- ST
Local Media Says- This is the year. Olympia has been knocking on the door for several years now, and they have never had a more complete team. The mix of veterans and youth is terrific. Team is pretty much in tact from last year, so they should have great chemistry from the start.

Team- Loudon Leopards
Predicted Finish- 2nd
Top three Players- Marco Antonio Ortiz ( C & M)- D, Francesco Avola ( C & M)- M, Viktor Eklund (Toyur)- F
Local Media Says- The most international team in the NPL is now up to seven foreign starters from five countries. The champion from two seasons ago expects to have a great shot at it once again. David Fallow, a goalkeeper from Silexhera will have a lot riding on him from the beginning.

Team- Centralia Cougars
Predicted Finish- 3rd
Top three Players- Jennifer Bennett- GK, Gene Sharman (Qazox)- D, Meghan Burns (Cassadaigua)- M
Local Media Says- Casey Berber (Dancougar) becomes the first foreign head coach of an NPL team after a stellar career as a Cougar defender. (Predecessor James Martin retired). Centralia is still dominant in the back, and the addition of Bennett is absolutely huge.

Team- Springfield Thoroughbreds
Predicted Finish- 4th
Top three Players- Angel Kenworthy (Qazox)- ST, Stacie Kerrigan-Fraser (Cassadaigua)- ST, Brett Carlson- ST
Local Media Says- The three strikers will continue to make up the most potent offense in the NPL, and the defending champion Thoroughbreds should be in the mix again. They still have holes in the back which can be exploited.

Team- Tundra Falls Mariners
Predicted Finish- 5th
Top three Players- Shawn O’Connell- D, Kiersten Reschke (Cassadaigua)- D, Reginald Gillispie (Qazox)- M
Local Media Says- The youngest team in the NPL will get even younger as Starblaydi Natalie Jensen will be the full-time starting keeper. The 18-year old will play behind a very young but extremely talented defense. Still more of a team for the future then the present, but they are getting closer.

Team- Dover City Mountaineers
Predicted Finish- 6th
Star Players- Brian Carver (Secristan)- GK, Adam Fortune (Taeshan)- D, Zahid Mohammed (Akbarabad)- ST
Local Media Says- The addition of both Fortune and Mohammed should get the Mountaineers back to where their fans expect, and contending for championships instead of toiling in the middle of the pack. Six of their eleven starters are foreign, from five countries.

Team- Pocono City Capitals
Predicted Finish- 7th
Top three Players- Julio Cesar (Cafundeu)- D, Brett Mumford (Qazox)- D, Kim Taeyeong (Daehanjeiguk)- D
Local Media Says- Pock City will be a threat, but a weakness in goal with the retirement of Bykovsky will keep them from being too good. Fortunately, a veteran defense is the strength of the team. Team could use more up front, also.

Team- South Tier Seagulls
Predicted Finish- 8th
Top three Players- Andrew McClure- GK, Curtis Stilwell- D, Matt Forsythe- ST
Local Media Says- The Seagulls have quietly been improving their team with homegrown talent while others have looked to the transfer market and it should show this year.

Team- Southport Tigers
Predicted Finish- 9th
Top three Players- Christina Schubert (D), Brian Sweeney- D, Meghan Vilardi- M
Local Media Says- The Tigers are a very young team, with an aging goalkeeper. This is the recipe for a good season, but probably with some frustrating setbacks along the way.

Team- Putnam Lake Eagles
Predicted Finish- 10th
Top three Players- Scottie Morton- D, Jeb Sharong (Starblaydia)- M, Alex Hyatt- ST
Local Media Says- The Eagles had a couple of key retirements over the last season, and they really were not able to pick up any big time replacements. This will hurt a team that has been in recovery mode for the last few years, anyway.

Team- North Charlotte Wildcats
Predicted Finish- 11th
Top three Players- Chris Zapolski- D, Mark Chatman- D, Brianna Pierson (Cassadaigua)- ST
Local Media Says- The Wildcats continue to be a team on the rise, and they will put a very similar team on the field. They are strong defensively, and if they ever get an offense to match, then lookout.

Team- South Charlotte Condors
Predicted Finish- 12th
Top three Players- Amber Pena (Arroza)- M, Jessica McElroy- M, Jessica Schanke (Cassadaigua)- ST
Local Media Says- One of those teams that does everything good but does nothing great, and hence, they fall in the middle of the table. Charlotte fans would get a thrill from North and South finishing consecutively like this, if it occurred.

Team- Brighton Bulls
Predicted Finish- 13th
Top three Players- Chris Zelenski- D, Scott Zelenski- D, Eric Givens- M
Local Media Says- Mark McCafferty continues to try have Brighton follow the Centralia model of success, the team is now a consistent mid-table finisher.

Team- Pittstown Miners
Predicted Finish- 14th
Top three Players- Michael Madsen- GK, Mattais Sjodin (Toyur)- D, Jarred Halsey- M
Local Media Says- Pittstown over the last few years has attempted to make a enough of a splash in the overseas market to ensure themselves of staying at the level. Former World Cup starting keeper Kevin Dalton has done a terrific job with the team.

Team- Hampton Bulldogs
Predicted Finish- 15th
Top three Players- Chris Poole- D, Anthony Caruso (Secristan)- D, Kevin Hamilton- ST
Local Media Says- After their one year stay in the B League, the Bulldogs seem to have learned their lesson and have been much smarter. A solid defense should give them an edge over other bottom-third teams.

Team- Daytopia Racers
Predicted Finish- 16th
Top three Players- Anthony Baldwin (GK), Kris Clemons- D, Jim Heirman- ST
Local Media Says- With Di Bradini Cup 11 starter Baldwin guarding the goal, the Racers should be able to steal points against stronger teams and hold off the weaker teams.

Team- Ashland Oilers
Predicted Finish- 17th
Top three Players- Bradley Nicodomo (Rennidan)- GK, David Sporadic (Silexhera)- M, Kevin Trafelski- ST
Local Media says- The addition of Sproadic will likely keep them from worry about relegation.

Team- Stroudsbourg Panthers
Predicted Finish- 18th
Top three Players- Collin Deryck (Rennidan)- GK, Jeremy Blankenship- M, Kelvin Hayes (Silexhera)- F
Local Media Says- The Panthers continue to look for cheap international transfers, and they bring a couple in this year.

Team- Rushville Monarchs
Predicted Finish- 19th
Top three Players- Stanley Salone- GK, Soumil Naidu (Steroga)- D, Sanjay Naidu (Steroga)- D
Local Media Says- Even though some are wondering if Salone was overhyped since he was bypassed by Baldwin in starting for Di Bradini 11, look for him, and the physical Sterogans to get some victories.

Team- West Penthoria Marlins
Predicted Finish- 20th
Top three Players- Adam DeRosier- D, Edward Zimmerman- M, Matt Chenault- ST
Local Media Says- The Marlins come up from the B League, and look like they will have just enough to stay a while.

Team- Seminole Bay Gators
Predicted Finish- 21st
Top three Players- Harry Burke- G, John Schaefer- D, Kurt Bowen- M
Local Media Says- After selling Jennifer Bennett to Centralia, the Gators went out and brought in Harry Burke from Valipac. This signing should allow an otherwise awful Gators team to stay in the NPL and have more time to build their team.

Team- Fairfield City Admirals
Predicted Finish- 22nd
Top three Players- Mark Brockway- D, Andrew Carrion- M, Chris Angsten- ST
Local Media Says- Unlike Hampton, the Admirals did not learn their lesson from their one year stay at the bottom, and now will be paying the price by going back.

Team-Portsmouth Whalers
Predicted Finish- 23rd
Top three Players- Scott Nolan- D, Mike Houston- M, Chris Vincelli- ST
Local Media Says- Portsmouth fans are used to bouncing up and down between the NPL and the B league, so a demotion won’t be a surprise.

Team- Dover Town Mountain Lions
Predicted Finish- 24th
Top three Players-Michael Schaffer- D, Eric Meehan- M, John Bosway- M
Local Media Says- Poor team that probably can’t wait to get loans from Dover City again once they get relegated.

Season Capsules: 2045/46 Apertura, 2046/47 Clausura

Preparation

The World Cup proved to be hardest on Port Royal FC, whose fans were still trying to cope with the club's first-ever finish outside the top six. The frequent absense of goalkeeper Kensaku Nakama for national team duty had damaged their record, but it was about to get worse. Not only was Nakama purchased by Clube Imperial after the World Cup, but one of the team's better defenders, Dan Wildenberg, was snapped up by Daehanjeiguk club Jonam. It was clear that the team needed to make a few moves to avoid a further drop off, but none were forthcoming. There were rumors flying around, but the team couldn't even manage to lure someone away from another D-League team let alone from overseas. They'd fill the gap with the draft.

Teknika Schlieffen were also busy, having suddenly risen into the top half. The board at Teknika were ready to spend and went out to find more players to put around midfielder John Schiermeier, gaining an Arrozan defender, Olga Enterprise, and a forward from Porto Lacruz in Cafundeu, Melchior. They looked poised to strike but then came the news that Schiermeier, the face of the franchise, had been sold. Dunboor FC saw something they liked in the man who scored the cup-winning goal in World Cup 46 and the price was right for Teknika, who ended up making money over the summer.

Shuukyuu Kishin also underwent a facelift. The champions lost forward Yoshiaki Soma to Krytenia's Leston Town much to the surprise of the fans, who considered Soma's ascent to be one of their greatest successes. But for some reason, it hadn't translated to time with the national team - although in Shigeru Takeuchi's player pipeline, he was rarely called upon during qualifiers. They attempted to compensate by bringing in a midfielder from Cafundeu, Pedrinho. But that was also to prepare for Louis Ransberger's impending retirement, the 33-year-old already imparting his knowledge of the game to youngsters Alan Jakubiak and Mary Staken.

Lakeport remained a center of distraction, but for the first time, it wasn't a player causing the noise - it was the coach. Jeremy McAllister was in the running for the job with the Newmanistan national team, a move which seemed only natural for the man who'd led them on the field for so long. There was mounting pressure for the team to finally clear the last hurdle between them and a championship. The team came into the season starting six players with international experience and added a seventh with the purchase of Sargossan defender Ricardo Moraes from Dinamo Maturin. Could McAllister make his case for the national team job through his club, with his son leading the way from the front line?

2045: Apertura

Never before had a there been a points tie atop the D-League table, but in the season following World Cup 47, Sporting Lakeport and Grandborough FC provided precisely that scenario. That was seen as a surprise since Grandborough, silent in the market after a 4th-place finish in 2044, were considered outsiders. Few of its players inspired any kind of fear in the hearts of opponents, although Silexheran James Idiotsman had developed a strong rapport with Bryon Isachsen, and Sargossan forward Ruben Gala had likewise grown into a perfect compliment to Donny Saulsberry. This was in stark constrast to Lakeport, who had recognizable players all over the field.

Two months into the season, and Teknika were on a roll. They were in a three-way tie atop the table with Sporting Kildare, who were expected to be up there, and CF America Chuuoushi, who weren't. Their 4-1 romp over Shuukyuu Kishin seemed to indicate that Schiermeier's absense could be managed after all, although seven goals in nine games by Melchior certainly helped. But by the halfway point, their position had eroded as their 6-2-1 start was followed by a 1-2-7 record that dropped them into the bottom third. Chuuoushi were still first in the table, as Candelarian Lawrence Hanson was going strong and midfielder Aiko Yoshida was becoming one of the most popular players in the league with her dizzying runs and set pieces. But Lakeport were in the picture by then, shaking off a slow start to hit ten wins at the break.

Within a month, though, Grandborough had risen to the top of the table thanks to four straight wins. Chuuoushi were a point behind and Shuukyuu Kishin had pulled within striking distance. Who could ever count them out? In Tsutomu Asahina they'd developed a third-choice striker who would have been first in the pecking order at many other clubs. Potentially damaging their chances, though, was a porous defense. Between Toby Garrido and Candelarian Jaon Endekov, they should have been solid, but to that point they'd ceded 39 goals, the second-most of any team in the top half of the table. Sure enough, another month saw them fall to sixth while Lakeport and Grandborough jockeyed for the lead.

Starting in Week 25, the teams were never more than two points apart. That's not to say they were the only ones the nation had eyes on - Eastport and Kildare also presented challenges. Kildare led as late as Week 32, no nobody was surprised. The team had a lot of defensive prowess through Dancougar national teamers Zach Ledain and William Kabacinski, but they could also count on Sargossan Carlos Candela to add speed. But after losing 3-1 away to Shuukyuu in Week 33, it was Lakeport and Grandborough sharing the lead. In the penultimate week of the season, Lakeport were held to a draw by Dynamo Kalinsk while Grandborough beat faltering Stoneridge 2-0. The teams were even at 71 points and were five clear of Eastport, meaning one of them would win the title for sure. Lakeport had a commanding advantage in goal difference, +29 to +21.

Grandborough needed help if they were going to pull it off. They were favored away to Port Vigilence, while Lakeport had a tough home game against Chuuoushi. Grandborough went up 2-0 before halftime and traveling fans went to their pocket radios for news from out west. There, in Joseph Gandor Stadium, hearts were about to be broken. Audrey Brodell, best known for her fainting spell at Di Bradini Cup 10, was pulled down in the box by Terrell Madeira. The referee pointed to the spot, and in the 78th minute, Jeremy McAllister, Jr. put Lakeport up 1-0. Conspiracy theories would abound, with Grandborough fans complaining that the league wanted the fresh-faced Junior to grace championship merchandise instead of their own gritty Bryon Isachsen.

But none of that mattered in Lakeport, where at long last, the blues were champions.

International Roundup

Once again, the D-League would have to be content with a single team in the TakilQuip group stage, as neither Grandborough nor Kildare had the mettle to pass through Section I preliminaries. Grandborough came closer to making it through, losing 3-2 to Mylfe CE in the fourth preliminary round after squeaking past the Neurologists in the third. Kildare never had a chance. Ranca Toco blanked them home and away by identical 2-0 scorelines, and that was the end of that. That left it to Shuukyuu Kishin, but they'd probably have to get past either Green Island or A.F.F., which were both the favorites to advance. A 2-0 loss at home to A.F.F. looked like it would be crucial, but then they managed to win 2-1 away to stay in contention. At the end, they were third on 8 points, sending them back to the Globe Cup.

In the Globe Cup, the question was whether or not perennial power Yuki City Athletic would manage to win their way out of the preliminary stages. Kalinsk proved incapable of advancing out of the opening round, downed 4-3 by Nethertopia's NAPPC. But Athletic looked good in their opener, thrashing North York 4-1 away and 3-1 at home. That brought them up against Aguazul's Alianza Ciruelas, and once again, Athletic were victorious. They joined Kildare in the qualifying stage and beat the Highmark City Blues 3-0, all goals coming in the second leg in Yuki City. Kildare were likewise through, victorious over Sporting San Marquez.

In the group stage, only Grandborough FC proved inept. Three road losses doomed their hopes of moving on, hopes which were the exclusive property of Porto Lacruz and Mort Park. Kildare fared better, finishing second in Group D just above FC Cap-Phare of Septentrionia, an association which can't seem to lose at the international level. Yuki City Athletic found themselves in a dogfight in Group L with Union d'Ourseville and the Otorhinolaryngologists, finishing first on 12 points to 11 and 10, respectively. Poor Seojang was beaten in six straight, so whoever blinked at the top was through. Athletic went unbeaten with three wins and three draws to finish tops.

Ah, but then came the first knockout stage. Shuukyuu Kishin's arrival gave the D-League three shots at the next round, but they were all firing blanks. Ranca Toco, conquerers of Sporting Kildare in the TakilQuip preliminaries, now got the same result against Yuki City Athletic. The score wasn't as lopsided, but a 1-0 road win for the Cafundeu club sealed the deal. Kildare got involved in a wild tie with the Psychiatrists of Estresse Intenso, winning their home leg by the incredible score of 5-3. Down 2-1 in the return leg, they were just barely through, but the Psychiatrists got a third goal to make it 6-6 on aggregate; they advanced on away goals, 3-1.

2046: Clausura

In Week 22, Sporting Lakeport leapfrogged Eastport United into first place with a 2-1 home win against Teknika Schlieffen, improving their record to 16-3-4. It would be the closest anyone got to toppling them after that. Lakeport would only lose once more en route to a record-setting season and their second-straight title, and it wasn't even close. Finally, the team were living up to the expectations that were placed on them when Empire Motors became their primary sponsor. The ownership group which helped abolish the salary cap and inadvertantly created the league's age limit was looking very much in command.

Early in the season, there were no real indicators that Lakeport's surge was waiting in the wings. The first two months saw them match Kildare and Shuukyuu Kishin blow for blow, although Kildare started to pull away and in mid-October they were sitting pretty at 8-3-1, two points ahead of Eastport and four above Lakeport. But then Kildare hit the meaty part of the schedule. A 3-0 loss away to Lakeport and a 3-3 draw with Kishin helped Eastport capture first with an impressive 10-5-1 mark. They would maintain their lead until Week 22 when Lakeport made their move.

But even then, the advantage was slight. Lakeport had a two-point lead on Eastport and three on Kildare, and both teams behind them were playing with more potent offenses. Kildare's 49 goals led the league - Arrozan Martin Lancaster accounted for 16 of them. Eastport led the league in differential at +23, with Ladis Berk of The Macabees anchored a line that had also seen Al Resnick step up as a significant contributor. But Lakeport would get past them all, and it would take an epic run of form to do it.

Two weeks later, Lakeport lost at home 4-3 to Kalinsk. It was an incredible match that saw the visitors twice come from behind. Kalinsk had added an experienced defender in Barba, who was molding Silexheran Smokey Black and Robert Sirmans into capable players. They had a one-two punch in goal with Artur Komarov and Hajime Kojima, and forward Ivan "The Great" Marchak had scored 13 goals at that point. The win moved Kalinsk into fourth and reduced Lakeport's lead to two points over Kildare. But McAllister's team won its next four matches to double the lead. Who would blink?

It was Kildare. They lost 3-2 to King's Eleven in Week 29, who were enjoying the partnership between army academy graduate Yori Takada, granted a special release to play professionally, and Newmanistan forward Michelle Clausen. Lakeport won away to Coraopolis 2-1, and that stretched the lead to seven points. Both teams continued winning. The lead went to ten in Week 33 after Lakeport came into Kirk County Stadium and downed Kildare 2-1, and at that point, analysts conceded the title. Lakeport's winning streak finally ended at 11 matches when they drew Kishin 3-3 in Week 36, but by then, they'd already mathematically clinched the championship.

International Qualifiers

Lakeport had no difficulty sealing up Dancougar's automatic TQCC group stage bid; two straight titles was plenty, but their dominant performance in the Clausura gave them a massive points edge anyway. As it turned out, the top six teams in the Clausura were the ones with the best two-year points totals, making it the first time in awhile that there's been relative calm at the top of the table.

TQCC1: Sporting Lakeport
TQCC2: Dynamo Kalinsk
TQCC3: Sporting Kildare
GC1: Eastport United
GC2: Yuki City Athletic
GC3: Shuukyuu Kishin

International Stadium Bids

The Dancougar FA once again presents the National Stadium for international consideration. It has hosted two previous TQCC championship games and a Cup of Harmony final, in addition to seeing double-duty in the D-League and being the exclusive home of the Dancougar national team. The stadium is being entered for both the TakilQuip Champions' Cup and the Globe Cup.

Home Of: Yuki City Athletic, King's Eleven Yuki City, Dancougar national football team
Capacity: 70,000
Notes: The National Stadium is the nation's largest and hosts all of the national team's matches. It has also been the site of two TakilQuip Champions' Cup finals. The National Stadium's open end gives a stunning view of the nation's capital across the Kishin River.

In addition, the FA is putting up the Shin Jared Koeppel for the Series B Champions' Cup final. The stadium is located on the campus of the University of Sullivan and is most well-known for its services to gridiron.

ANOTHER TITLE FOR LOUDON BUT PUTNAM LAKE GETS THE PRESS

The Loudon Leopards and their foreigner-loaded roster captured their second NPL championship in three seasons, holding off a surprising Putnam Lake who unexpectedly finished second on the table. Centralia, Olympia, and Tundra Falls all hung around until the end as well as the NPL has yet another fantastic finish. North Charlotte finished a franchise-high 6th, and the reigning champion Springfield Thoroughbreds could do no better then 7th. Even though this title was won by Loudon, the story of the season was clearly the Putnam Lake Eagles. They have simply not been a contender since the exit of Jeremy McAllister and son, and looked to be a team on the decline. With new coach Adam Motten, who had led Seminole Bay over the last five seasons, this was supposed to be a poor season, not a season that ends up three points shy of a title. Their 71 goals scored were the third highest in the NPL, behind the expected Thoroughbreds, and then Loudon. Starbladyi midfielder Jeb Sharong and Dancougaran forward Justin Sellick found great chemistry with one another while Newmanistanian veteran Larry Rokowski benefitted from their production as well. Mark Campbell, who started in goal for the Cup of Harmony team, had a great season as well and a veteran defense, led by Arrozan Stephen Barra and Newmanistanian Scottie Morton showed that you need older players to win championships.

It was Loudon that won the title, though, so shouldn’t they be the story? Well, not really. They were expected to be strong, the season of the Eagles may have been one of the biggest surprises in NPL history. Nonetheless, Loudon’s roster is as follows:

David Fallow (Silexhera); Marco Antonio Ortiz ( C & M), Eric Feldman, Chris Lombardi, Dwight Heath (Dancougar); Adam Benjamin, Francesco Avola ( C & M), John McNally; Marko Drescher (Quintessence of Dust), Viktor Eklund (Toyur), Cameron Jones ( C & M).

This may have been the final season for Ortiz and Avola, and possibly Heath; all of whom are getting up there in age now.

Season Awards:
Top Goalscorer: Stacie Kerrigan-Fraser (Springfield)
League MVP: Jeb Sharong (Putnam Lake)
Top Defender: Kiersten Reschke (Tundra Falls)
Top Midfielder: Jeb Sharong (Putnam Lake)
Top Goalkeeper: Jennifer Bennett (Centralia)
Foreigner of the Year: Jeb Sharong (Putnam Lake)
Rookie of the Year (Domestic): Jarred Halsey (Pittstown)
Foreign Rookie of the Year: David Fallow (Loudon)
Coach of the Year: Adam Motten (Putnam Lake)

The Prince's Shield

The Prince's Shield Pre-season friendly tournament came and went so fast, if you blinked you would've missed it. The 8 team competition featured reigning Una Serie champions - Pythons and league opponents Royal Khaldoon.
Sargossa's Dínamo Maturín
from Somewheristonia and reigning Prince's Shield holders Atlantas Klaipaada
Quintessence of Dust's BobBank F.C
El din Marbles of Candelaria and Marquez
Atlantea Hurricanes from Taeshan
and Eastern Volleyball's Torhampton Gulls.

Teams were split into 2, 4 team groups playing each other once with the top two teams from each group reaching the semi-finals.

Group A consisted of
Pythons
Dínamo Matuírn
BobBank F.C
Torhampton Gulls

Group B
Atlantea Hurricanes
Atlantas Klaipaada
El din Marbles
Royal Khaldoon

Results
Code: Select all
Game 1
Pythons 1 - 1 Dinamo Maturin          Atlantea Hurricanes 3 - 3 Atlantas Klaipaada
BobBank 0 - 0 Torhampton              El din Marbles      3 - 1 Royal Khaldoon

Game 2
Pythons 1 - 0 Torhampton              Atlantea Hurricanes 0 - 3 Royal Khaldoon
Dinamo Maturin 2 - 3 BobBank          Atlantas Klaipaada  2 - 1 El din Marbles

Game 3
Pythons 1 - 3 BobBank                 El din Marbles 1 - 2 Atlantea Hurricanes
Torhampton 0 - 3 Dinamo Maturin       Royal Khaldoon 0 - 2 Atlantas Klaipaada

Which left the tables looking a little something like this
Code: Select all
Team                   P   W   L   D   Gdif   Pts
BobBank F.C            3   2   0   1    +3     7
Dínamo Maturín         3   1   1   1    +2     4
Pythons                3   1   1   1    -1     4
Torhampton Gulls       3   0   2   1    -4     1

Team                   P   W   L   D   Gdif   Pts
Atlantas Klaipaada     3   2   0   1    +3     7
Atlantea Hurricanes    3   1   1   1    -2     4
El din Marbles         3   1   2   0     0     3
Royal Khaldoon         3   1   2   0    -1     3

BobBank F.C and Dínamo Maturín qualified for the semis from group A and Atlantas Klaipaada and Atlantea Hurricanes qualified from group B.

Results
Code: Select all
BobBank F.C 2 - 1 Atlantea Hurricanes
Atlantas Klaipaada 0 - 2 Dinamo Maturin

And so the final would be a repeat of match day 2 with BobBank facing off against Dínamo Maturín.
BobBank went on to win the game 2-1 and lift the Prince's Shield.

Final
BobBank F.C. 2 - 1 Dínamo Maturín

Proposal for vote

The following proposal is put up for vote:
No one may enter two consecutive seasons of international club competition without having posted some evidence of results generated for at least one season, which may include, but is not limited to:
  • a league table,
  • results of a cup competition, or
  • a roleplayed account of some or all of the domestic season.
Exceptions to this rule may be granted at the organizers’ discretion.

(Note: Had this rule been in effect for the current season, Carpathia and Ruthenia, The Islands of Qutar, Nethertopia, and Taeshan would have been the associations excluded. Nethertopia would likely have been granted an exception, as he has only recently been unable to post tables.)

If you have teams participating in the current season of international club competition, you may vote on this proposal by sending a telegram to New Manhattan. Voting will end at the conclusion of the current season, roughly five days from now (no less than that, but possibly more). If approved by a plurality, it will go into effect starting with TQCC17.

Eastern Volleyball Foreign Draft 2010

Arroza
Jeremy Hartwell - 18 - CB - Torhampton gulls
Samson Malijani - 17 - GK - Highbury AFC
Seamus Donnelly - 18 - ST - Anbridge Town

Hartwell was drafted in by reigning Division One champions Torhampton Gulls as first choice centre back. The 18 year old joins a fairly older squad, the Gulls with an average age of 27, so experience from older defenders such as Dre Royle and Lindsay Kelvin could come handy. Malijani drafted in by current Cup champions Highbury AFC. Highbury boss Jake Damian said he was not worried by criticism that the 17 year old was too inexperienced. "People have to start somewhere, and people seem to forget that foreign players here are out to make a name for themselves for their teams back home. I have every confidence in Malijani to keep our team competitive". Seamus Donnelly, an 18-year old striker, was drafted in by Division Two champions Anbridge Town. Anbridge haven't been given good odds on surviving this season, but nonetheless, Town are ready to prove their critics wrong.

Bears Armed
Roh'hsarra EastWalker - 21 - ST - Torhampton Gulls
Ilssa RiverFarer - 24 - CB - Torhampton Gulls
Irryane Porravtso - 20 - LM - Anbridge Town

EastWalker and RiverFarer both get picked up by Torhampton Gulls, easily the favourites for the title yet again. EastWalker has said to have had a target of a goal a game, at least, and will certainly add the extra fire power up front. RiverFarer completes the back four at the Gulls alongside Hartwell from Arroza, almost cementing a title before the season has even started. Irryane Porravtso, a left winger, was drafted by Anbridge and makes the recent promotees' not so weak looking on set pieces.

Queer Poco el Mono Ara
Mustapha Rehman - 33 - ST - Ameshurst Marine

Rehman moved to Eastern Volleyball as his fitness was slowly going down hill and a more relaxed schedule would suit him better. Rehman was drafted by Ameshurst Marine, a team who narrowly escaped relegation at the fortune of their city rivals Ameshurst City. Rehman is expected to bring experience to the squad and looks set to building a strong relationship with playmaker Jody Rodger in order to bring the goals in.

Sorthern Northland
Niccoló Guzzo - 20 - ST - Ameshurst Marine
Im Hyo-Jin - 22 - CM - Highbury AFC

Guzzo joins up with Rehman to create an all foreign strike-force at Ameshurst Marine. Niccoló has been spoken about in EV for a while now and Marine fans in particular are looking forward to battling with Torhampton for the title. Im Hyo-Jin teams up with Arroza keeper Samson Malijani at Highbury AFC. The centre-mid has been praised for his efforts at training in the past few weeks by right-back Jett Eustace, and said "If there's any silverware this season at Highbury Lane, I guarantee this man will be the working force behind the winning squad".

Taeshan
Matt Fisher - 22 - CB - Highbury AFC

Completing this draft report is Taeshan's Matt Fisher. A young centre back who's main aim will be turn this mid-table team into title contenders by rock solid performances at the back and guarding keeper Malijani.

Globe Cup final stadium:

Between eleven stadia (oh! an increase!), the man responsible for choosing the venue between the candidates started feeling symptoms of the infamous Sorthern Duck Flu and coughed, with some drops of saliva falling over the name of one of the stadia, which was considered then the "chosen one". So, the host of the final will be Gangsters Park, in Los Riosa, Taeshan (cap. 99,000).

PART FOUR

(OOC note: By my calendar, the league was scheduled to end on Wednesday, right before the TQCC cutoff. Unfortunately, I had thought that cutoff was later and I'd be able to get away with posting this when I returned home, being out of town at the time. I was unfortunately wrong, and the league results were only on my home computer and not on my laptop. So the upshot of that is, Vephrall's ICC competitors this time around are based entirely on 1773 results, and the next time around will use the combined points table from '74 and '75.)

Matchday 29

Uh-oh, Oillid have dropped five points in the span of two matches. After absolutely dominating the league so far, are they about to fail down the stretch and hand the title to...probably Mylfe, which was the only team in the top five to record a win this week? Something in me is telling me to make the obligatory New York Mets joke here, but my assistant is reminding me that there is no such thing as the "New York Mets" in this universe. Whatever, I stand by it.

And now Oillid win three-nil on the road. Okay, the Mets (whoever they are) they are not. Meanwhile, we're starting to see a little bit of separation between the top three and the rest of the pack, which would be meaningful if this were a one-off season for international eligibility, but that ain't gon' happen.

Matchday 31

Okay, so the most exciting match of the week involved two lower-middle table teams. So what? Hats off to Terabits and Knoleier for bringing a little bit of excitement to this depressingly boring stretch run. Oillid still leads by nine, and the bottom three are still separated from the field by six. Poiki gets a four-nil win over last-place Anhenir, but they still trail by 17 points with seven matches remaining. No title for them. As of this moment, there are nine teams (Oillid, Mylfe, Ammites, Merpisms, Poiki, Boalluns, Stestrenas, Huellim, and Stithis) that haven't been mathematically eliminated, but with the bottom four of those all tied at 49, they're about to be.

Oillid and Mylfe show why they're sitting in first and second as each pick up a comfortable four-nil win. And as a result, we are indeed down to five teams still officially in the race.

Matchday 33

Oillid pick up another win, and with that Poiki and Ammites officially bow out of the title race. Merpisms still technically hanging on, fifteen out with five to play. Meanwhile, it's still a six-point gap at the relegation cutoff. Pallona's not even taking bets at this point – Oillid will win the title and Fekler, Sichisers, and Anhenir will go down.

Matchday 34

An absolutely irrelevant, but nonethless energetic, nine-goal game between Boalluns and Knoleier sees the home team come out on top. Trillet win and Fekler draw, so the relegation gap widens to eight points. Oillid win and Mylfe lose, so now it takes four losses by Oillid and four wins by Mylfe. And sorry, it's not any more exciting in Cintrin B, as Dranacess officially locks up the title by taking a 13-point lead over Shing with four to play. Then again, there are still 13 teams in contention for promotion there, so that's something.

Matchday 35

Not exactly an emphatic statement, but Oillid take a point from Boalluns and take the Cintrin A trophy as well. Anhenir and Sichisers are going down, and so are Fekler unless they win all three remaining matches and Trillet lose all three, and Fekler also make up twelve units of goal difference. This one's over, folks.

Following the 1774 season, the Vephraller Tririsec e Foutbill and Vephraller Foutbiller Restritris announced some major changes in Vephrese club football that would take place during the offseason.

Cintrin D, the fourth level of the VTF, which is divided into three divisions (East, West, and South) containing a total of 176 clubs, will cease to exist. The Vephraller Tririsec e Foutbill will now be composed of just three divisions of twenty teams each. These divisions, currently known as Cintrin A, B, and C, are to be renamed and will become the Gold League, White League, and Blue League, respectively.

Meanwhile, the 60 remaining VTF clubs will join those 176 former Cintrin D members and at least 63 new clubs (at least 299 in total) in the new state competitions. Each of Vephrall's twelve states will have its own league consisting of anywhere from seven to 57 members spread across one to three divisions. The winners of these twelve state competitions will then play in a simple knockout tournament, the Prime Minister's Cup. The champions of the four largest states - Riestre (57 teams), Shentarong (57), Bektys (44), and Salle (30) - will receive byes to the quarterfinals.

The Vephraller Kustriin e Foutbill is expected to once again open admission to all 299+ Vephrese clubs (recently it has been open to only the 60 playing in the top three divisions). Meanwhile, a new competition, the Commonwealth Cup, will exist for those 60 teams still playing in the VTF.

VTF and VFR officials have denied allegations of "blatantly stealing Cafundelense ideas", though they did concede that Cafundéu's league structure is very popular among Vephrallers.
