The drone pilot is the person who makes decisions whilst being away from any sort of repercussions. A drone pilot can kill twenty people, and go to sleep in their own home at night with no regrets. They're too far out from the consequences that they lose all of their ability to feel empathy and morality. Ross hates Wilhelm because to him, royalty are drone pilots. They don't have to serve their country, and those that do are generally pampered to high hell and kept from harm. Ross fought alongside his men every step of the way; he treated them as his equals. Wilhelm never fought for anything, and yet has a position of power. Ross doesn't believe that people who can't work hard should be in positions of power.

Marco would happily have been a lifer in the Royal Navy, but PTSD from a training accident and a call to the throne put paid to that. Paris did his two years in the cushy branch and got the hell out. Do whatever you want with that IC.
