The Eagle's Club is proud to present Eagles Cup, a modern era re-incarnation of the historic Eagle's Cup. 16 esteemed nations from throughout the multiverse will compete over 9 Matchdays to lift the Eagle's Cup and earn their place in the Eagle's Club, securing their place as a competitor and potential host in future Eagle's Cups.

Format :: The 16 nations will be split into two 8-team sub-competitions. Each competition will have two groups where 4 teams will play each other nation twice, once at a stadium of their choosing and once at a stadium of their opponents choosing. The first sub-competition is the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy which traces direct lineage to the original Eagle's Cup including the representatives from the Eagle's Club and At-Large entrants. The second sub-competition is strictly invite only, tracing a direct lineage to the Cup of Champions and representing only Major, WCC & Confederation Champions. From there, the top 2 nations in each group table will advance to the Semi-Final round of each half to be held at an official Eagle's Club location. The winners of these matches will receive a special trophy from the Eagle's Club that also grants the nations honorary status with the Eagle's Club for one competition cycle and advance to the Final of their half. The winners of the Eagle's Club Half and Champions Half will advance to the Eagle's Cup Championship match presented by Cocoa-bo where the winner will be crowned overall champion and granted entry into the Eagle's Club. A third place playoff will also be contested back at the Eagle's Club where medals for the Top Three finishers in the overall will be awarded.

Transportation support for teams competing in the Eagle's Cup is available through the multinational Logistics and Holdings Company CoCoCo. Cocoa-bo, a primary holding of CoCoCo which heavily leverages the CoCoCo Logistics infrastructure has been signed as the presenting sponsor of the tournament and will have traveling Cocoa-bo booths at all tournament venues.

Eligible Participants :: The bylaws of the Eagle's Club denote guaranteed entry for up to 8 Nations into the Eagle's Cup as follows:

Eagle's Club Members - Minimum 4 entrants into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy
Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalist - Maximum 3 Entrants into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy
Non-Member Applicant - Minimum 1 Entrant into the Eagle's Cup via the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy

Should the Eagle's Club contain fewer than 4 active member nations then the Eagle's Club allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Should the previous cycles Eagle's Cup semi-finalists include Eagle's Club members, or, should any of the previous cycles Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalists fail to send a delegation to the Eagle's Cup, the Eagle's Cup Semi-Finalist's allocation to the Cup shall be reduced accordingly. The Eagle's Club shall fill these slots with Non-Member nations by means of Selection, Invitation or Application as necessary to fill the field.

Per established precedent, entry for up to 4 Nations each into the Champions and Confederations Groups may be earned earned via triumph in recently contested World Cup Committee and Regionally sanctioned Championships with replacement nations to be selected at the discretion of the Eagle's Club Committee.

Eagle's Club :: The eligibility of Eagle's Club members Eauz, Kingsford and Cosumar are currently in an inactive status. As the once independent nation of Bedistan is now part of the Unified Capitalizt States, the Eagle's Club membership and reserved place in the Eagle's Cup is extended to the Unified Capitalizt States. Temporary Eagle's Club status may also be granted to select non-champion nations based on their final position in the previous Eagle's Cup competition.

Applicant :: At least 1 Additional slot in the Eagle's Cup is available to a nation selected by the Eagle's Club who has submitted an application to the Eagles Club. Additional slots may be made available to non-member applicants if selected delegations are unable to participate. As Invitations are sent out, and delegations formed, all participants will be informed. The placement of groups will take place once 16 Delegations have been identified.

About the Nation
Northwest Kalactin is a nation of 20 million people, the nation has many major city’s with hockey teams in them. The largest cities are Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour And Kempsey the capital and largest city in the nation is Gold Coast. The climate is hot with the summer temperatures getting up to about 110 Fahrenheit at the highest and winter temperatures go down to about 50 at the lowest. The nation plays host to many domestic sports leagues across many different sports including Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, Rugby and many more.

Northwest Kalactin: What to Expect
Of course if you are traveling to Northwest Kalactin you need to bring some shirts and shorts. The average temperature is around 80 degrees all year, however, during the summer it can go up to one hundred degrees. Most stadiums in Northwest Kalactin are either domes or have retractable roofs because during the summer players will easily overheat. The hottest that the temperature that the weather has gotten in the summer is 113 degrees farinheight. The largest cities are Gold Coast, Coffs Harbour and Kempsey. All 3 of these cities have over 1 million people in them but Gold Coast is the largest city with over 2.8 million people in the entire city. Coffs has 1.7 million and Kempsey has 1.2 million. The east side of the nation has very few people having only 2.5 million people. Almost all of the large cities have teams in all of the different sports leagues, however, different regions have different popular sports. The main coastal cities have soccer and gridiron as the most popular sports. The farms inland also like both Soccer and Gridiron but many baseball players also come from the inland rural areas. In the eastern mountains have hockey as the most popular sport but, bandy is also a very popular among kids which makes the nation one of the best in the world in bandy. Down south, soccer and basketball are by far the most popular sports there. The kids in Northwest Kalactin currently are one of the most promising sports generations ever in the nation as they are now putting up some of the best youth teams in the world. Northwest Kalactin is pretty light when it comes to laws however, all visitors and opponents are expected to follow the laws for the duration that they are in the nation. Drinking is permitted for those over 17 and smoking is illegal outside of designated areas. Some of the best textiles industries in the world can be found in Northwest Kalactin as the huge textile factory, Holcomb Textiles headquartered in Byron Bay. Many tech companies are also based in the nation as the Tech Company Startup Fund provides money for those entrepreneurs in the tech section who look to be based in Kalactin.

Where you will play

Gold Coast international football stadium is a very nice stadium it holds up to 104,000 people and is the largest stadium in northwest Kalactin. Many people are surprised that the stadium has a retractable roof even though it is very hot in northwest Kalactin in fact the reason why the roof is there is because of the heat! One time it was 114 degrees Farinheight in Gold Coast so they put the roof up. Another thing to look for at the stadium is the before game tailgating there are many food trucks that stop by there and take advantage of the huge crowds. Lastly, be sure to visit the Northwest Kalactin soccer hall of fame that has many interesting artifacts jerseys and other stuff from Kalactanian football

History of The Team
The Kalactanian National Team has been around since the 79th version of the World Cup. The team started out from quiet beginnings finishing in the quarter finals in the 66th Baptism Of Fire against Filindostan. The 80th World Cup Team was highlighted by Jared Sednah and Wendell Jakerein, who ended up making the team of the qualifiers. Sednah was the top player on the team for the Next 2 cycled as he paired up with Luke Dillan to bring the team close to qualifying. Despite the valiant efforts by Dillan and Sednah the team couldn’t end up qualifying in the 82nd and 81st cups. The FA decided not to enter the team in for the 83rd qualifiers due to corruption in the association. The team was quickly eliminated in the 84th qualifiers. The current team is highlighted by younger players that hope to bring the team to the World Cup the the following years. In the 85th World Cup campaign the team put up one of their best qualifying performances. However, near the end of qualifying the team was shaken by the surprise retirement of the star goalkeeper Wendell Jakerein.

A player that has came off of the bench in multiple recent world cups, Keith Torres is a very reliable substitute, although it will be interesting to see how he does when starting the game on the field. Recently transferring to Ko-oren to play there, Torres is a player that has been with 7 different clubs in his career. Torres is a very strong and fast player, although many think that he lacks the skill needed to become a great striker.

Jimmy McCarthy

Tor, Age: 28
Jimmy McCarthy was the future of Kalactanian football the second he stepped onto the Project Olimpo campus. He is a natural leader that can lift the spirits of any of his teammates and he brings great talent to the team. He is a bit weak however he makes up for it with his ability to make a move on anyone. Last cycle he was by far the best player on the team, going out and showing his goalscoring ability, and is able to work some magic out there.

Will Sanders

Murwelldobah FC, Age: 32
Will Sanders is a player that has historically played midfield however he made the switch to midfielder a few years ago. One of the best players on the team he is always focused on making his teammates better through passing. He is a very creative player that likes to express his creativity on the pitch. He was responsible for assists on many of the goal.

Thomas Butler

AC Itotz Zubia, Age: 19
The future of Kalactanian soccer, is now playing in Audioslavia, and is now with the national team for his first cycle on. He is a magic man by the net, and always seems to come out with the ball in 1-1 battles. He is one of the strongest, and fastest players to ever play for the nation, he will become a great duo with players like Jimmy McCarthey in the next few years, and you can look for him to score many goals. He wants this cycle to be his breakout cycle, and he wants to start it out wi a good AOCAF

Gilbert is a player in the middle of his prime. After showing how he could turn the War Eagles from a second tier team to a team earning UICA qualification the NT picked him up. He is a very athletically talented player that can outrun almost anyone on the pitch. He does lack some skills on the first touch but his athleticism helps him excel on the field.

Frank Owens

Coffs Harbour FC, Age: 35
Owens has been a mainstay if the starting lineup of the NT since the 80th World Cup. He may be entering his last World Cup as he is very prone to injury’s. He plays a very aggressive game and has a fiery temper, things that can get him in trouble on the field. Owens is currently the team record holder for the most Cautions in one tournament, with 7.

Lamar Hall

Bul Khungur Miners, Age: 22
Lamar is on his very first cycle on the National Team, and he is a started already. He had a breakout season and helped the Ballina Red Devils earn theirselves a spot in IFCF play this season. He is the younger brother of established defender Matt Hall, and wants to become a reliable starter on the national team in the coming years. Look for him to pass a lot, he spends very little time with the ball once he gets possession. Now in the Tikariot Premier League, he looks to become one of the best team players on the team.

Matt Hall is another player in his prime that has been around on the team during recent cycles. He recently started playing in the Farfadillian leagues where he continues to develop as a player. Hall is one of the strongest players on the team athletically being one of the fastest on the team.

FC Harbour City, Age: 31
A newer player just recently called up to the National Team, Anderson has exceeded expectations for the team. He recently just entered his prime and he improves very quickly. He does tack up a large number of injuries though, which is concerning for his future on the team. Anderson is a great on-ball defender and can play physically if needed.

Larry Martinez

AC Itotz Zubia, Age: 28
Martinez is a new defender to the National squad. He played his only appearance before this when he came in as a sub in a Wonder Cup game against Delaclava. He also is a teammate of young striker Thomas Butler, so look for those 2 to have some good chemistry on the field. Just like his preceding teammate at the position, Jake Dakota, he is a reliable defender that has good ball control.

What he lacks though, is the tactical smarts that Jakerein possessed.

Daniella Strauss is using the Eagles' Cup as an opportunity to blood players on the fringes of the national team; caught off-guard by an injury to Vivica Muscadin last World Cup, without a proven deputy to step up, she's determined to make sure it never happens again. It does help that the Nepharan national pool is among the deepest in world football. This is an opportunity to put feet in the door ahead of qualifying, and keep fresh in Strauss' mind ahead of the World Cup - the likes of Soeringer, Timekeeper and Kalevi will be angling to be in the final cut of 23.

Tactics

Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

Most of the time, Nephara will muster in a 4-4-2, but are prepared to put an extra body in midfield when the battle for control is being lost.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharim ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

A former striker, Strauss has never done it at a truly big club - but then, the obvious candidates tend to fail for Nephara. Strauss turned a terrible Corvette side into a credible Premiership outfit for a time, and started to revitalise Southfell United before the Cormorants came calling. Unusually for Nepharim, she likes to keep ahold of the ball, but likes to play quick, aggressive football, with a high line choking the opposition. Monica Brightwater has hung up her proverbial boots; Strauss is now master, she requires an apprentice. So she's stolen the irascible Herrick, who believes herself to be something like fifteen years older after a stint greasy churning in Bonesea, an undoubted hard woman with a keen tactical mind.

A very... long-named set of defenders, on the whole. Clevinger and Soeringer are inseparable friends who came up through the U21 internationals and at Newrook together. Brabanzon is expected to be the future, while Anderson hopes to remain relevant in the present, having never entirely managed to solidify his place with the Cormorants. Presumably, one of Strasbourg or Seselja will become the first Chromatika-based player to receive a cap. Signs are strong; a surfeit of Premiership-quality defenders remain dormant.

Alternatives must be found. Fortunately, depth appears strong, albeit with something of a half-generational gap. On the flanks, Kendra Ramsey is thought to have declined yet another callup, but Chantal Kalevi - another in Chromatika - appears best-placed to punch through.

Brynjólfursson, Toresdóttir bounced in surprise KG shake-up

Knattspyrnusamband Græntfjalls have made the surprise decision to terminate the contracts of national team coaches Sigtryggur Brynjólfursson and Særún Toresdóttir, in the wake of the disappointing Round of 16 exit from the 36th Copa Rushmori. Thrashed 7 – 2 by Nephara, the same team who eliminated Græntfjall at the same stage of the 35th edition, the Snow Wolves faced the additional humiliation of losing on home soil. Fans were left to watch teams such as Yuezhou and Mytanija – and, inevitably, Nephara and Savojarna – advance to play the quarterfinals in stadiums that had hoped to host an exciting cup run for the Snow Wolves. The decision to release both coaches marks a reversal of a previous vote of faith publicly given to them by KG chair Dóra Lucassdóttir following the failure to qualify for World Cup 86.

“A year is a long time in football,” said veteran football journalist Olle Tobiasson of the decision. “A year ago the Snow Wolves made the World Cup qualification playoffs. But since then they’ve regressed and the thrashing on home soil was the final whale rib.* Brynjólfursson should, in a way, see this as a positive: in his tenure he’s raised expectations to such a level that simply making the playoffs is no longer considered good enough.” Brynjólfursson was not available for comment at time of press to confirm whether he does, indeed, see his firing as a ‘positive’.

KG will now begin the search for a new coaching staff for the national team. Græntfjall’s intense local and regional rivalries have historically made such recruitment drives complex: a manager seen to favor either of the North Háttmark rivals, Gunzlach or Steinaux, will likely fail to unite the national squad, while there will be a fear that Altendalur manager Auno Laurinsson, previously tipped as the top candidate, is too entrenched in bitter divisions between West and East. As such, KG have acknowledged they will be prepared to interview foreign candidates for the role, in additional to qualified domestic candidates. When playing in Legalese you’ll be joining us at: Shoreline Park, in the northern “New City” of Spetz-Tessah. Construction was finished on the 45,328 seat ground in the past year, connecting the single-tiered Oceanside Stand to along one touchline to the Sunset End’s double-tiered construction. Opposite the Oceanside Stand (which also contains the press box, television viewing area, and the coach/executive boxes) is the larger Cityside Stand; this stand is currently double-tiered, with the ability to add potentially two more if population growth and club success dictates. The Sunrise End is disconnected from the others, giving a window to the ocean -- the angular nature of the layout makes this possible -- and is a single tier with a large scoreboard behind it.

Back in World Cup 68, the World came to Legalese. Now, at least part of the World will show up -- hopefully fans from Electrum, Savojarna, and Chromatika, at least -- to see Legalese reach for a shot at the Cocoa-bo Challenge Trophy and at least an invitation back for Eagle’s Cup X; and if Miles Woodworth’s side is exceptionally lucky (by which I mean Stan Thate leading Legalese through three straight knockout wins on penalties to lift the Cup Of Harmony levels of luck), perhaps a shot at the Eagle’s Cup itself, along with permanent membership in the Eagle’s Club -- an honor that might ensure that the Jeremy Jaffacake Jamboree no longer remains as the most revered non-regional/WCC trophy that a Legalite side can envision winning.

So, for those who haven’t been to Legalese in twenty years or so, what’s new? First off, the city the national team will be calling home for this competition. Spetz-Tessah is a new city in Legalese, formed in the northern end of the island, serving as the main port accessing the Strait of Champions. Over the past 10-20 years, Spetz-Tessah has been built literally from scratch, one of a few places built from decommissioned national lands.

This has also led to the opportunity to experiment with city planning; that is, take the changes and innovations in places like Legalese City and Francopolis to provide a more walkable city, reduce car transit, and promote a better quality of life while helping the overall environment, and put them into action from the get-go.

Most notable? Spetz-Tessah is as close to a car-less city as one can imagine.

It starts with the concepts of “Superblocks”. Now, a typical city block can vary in length, and heck, even in width -- they’re not always square or squarelike, and in a place built before the concept of grids, may not really exist at all -- but the typical Legalite grid is drawn so that the smallest side of a typical block is about 300-350 feet, with a road crossing between each of them. Superblocks will take that concept and close off the middle roads of a 3 x 3 grid, making for about 1000 feet (not quite a fifth of a mile, or nearly a third of a kilometer) with minimal-to-no traffic, turning the former streets into long pedestrian walkways. Of course, that’s usually an after-the-fact conversion -- the roadway was build in the first place.

Spetz-Tessah, on the other hand, didn’t have the roads first -- just the plan. And this plan went big on super blocks. Each block was made square, using a measurement of 100 meters -- a tenth of a kilometer, and in line with the 300-350 foot range of a traditional Legalite city block. Those smaller blocks were consolidated into larger blocks of 3 x 3, creating a block where the city streets intersect at intervals of 300 m, rather than the typical 100 m or so -- making the car easier to get through longer stretches, but with fewer turns and places to stop.

However, the real innovation was the center, home to City Hall, a massive public park, the County Courthouse, as well as a mix of residential and retail. This center wasn’t just a single super block, but rather, it was four super blocks put together -- creating 360,000 square meters of walkable, bikeable, and just simply living space in general. This core, Spetz Square, anchors a town where one can get most of what they need without a car, and one where instead of nearly 170 intersections in a downtown of 1.2 square kilometers, this city touts 16. Combine this with a robust circulating bus system, and a mixed light/commuter rail system to bring folks in from the further edges and to the Port of Tessah, and you have a modern, clean, and efficient transportation system!

Granted, there were features to work out. Figuring out where to place Shoreline Park, where the Legalese National Team will be hosting their Eagle’s Cup compatriots, was a bit of a challenge. Ultimately, near the marina worked well -- it provided both an easy way to provide parking for both venues for the folks who have to drive in, while not creating too much extra infrastructure that would go used only occasionally. It’s unclear if the stadium’s partially-open design on the Sunrise end, which happens to get some nice shoreline views, name notwithstanding, might be a cause for concern on a windy day, should an excessive gust of ocean wind cause some swirling. Fortunately, we have this tournament to find out.

After graduating summa cum laude from Chromatik City College University with a degree in Sports Physiology, Zoe, affectionately called "Z" by her peers, worked at the Capitalizt Dome until the CFF came calling. Strikingly beautiful and fit, nobody would question her if she put on the uniform herself and went out on the pitch; her physique definitely belong out there. Smart, calculating, and personable, there were actually some concerns about her becoming a visual distraction to the players, which were shot down quickly by her professionalism and integrity. That being said, the Chromatik locker room will be... a bit more spicy than before. The players have done an admirable job of keeping things professional between them, which has allowed her to perform her duties without a problem. It is hard to believe that the team didn't have a physio for a long time. Now rumored to be dating a now-retired Erika Morningstar - much to the conservative Chromatik media's chagrin - "Z" has really settled into her role.

Gjedrem comes into the management position of the Marauders looking rather confident of being able to bring glory to the national team once more, having successfully guided Raynor City United to its continued dominance in the Elven Premiership. A fan of the methodical attack, he mentality suits into the personalities of the players that he has at his disposal, and his continued success at the Rockers has proven he knows how to deal with egos and keeping a team motivated even against weak opposition. The switch from club football to international one is tricky for most managers, but Didrik looks to have all the tools necessary to have a smooth transition and get the side contending for both regional and World Cup titles.

Reiniger was an intelligent defender in his playing days with Crawford City FC and the idea of stepping away from the game after his playing retirement didn't sit well with him. Reiniger believes in strict discipline but in being fair, while also preferring to play a possession based defensive tactic, that takes advantage of the opposition when they overextend. Much was admired about his single-minded approach to playing the 'right way', but his lack of a Plan B sank him in the rough waters of the Nepharim Premiership. The VSC hopes that attitude and defensive prowess would be better utilized in a national team capacity.

While not possessing the same level of reflexes as Smørdal, Julius is a great shot stopper in his own right and should be a reliable keeper for the squad.

A tall and lanky fellow, but don't let the lithe frame fool you, he is a destroyer through and through and will not think twice about putting in a crunching challenge on you in a fifty-fifty situation. Perhaps due to playing over in Eura, Larsen is a bit more of a physical player than most Vanorians but has that touch of technical class that one has come to expect from a Vanorian midfielder.

With plenty of room still to get better, she could be a superstar in the making, as long as the domestic situation does not get worse.

Having some time together and both in their prime should hopefully see a replication of their form from two years ago if not an improvement on it.

A more unselfish player than his predecessor and a bit more versatility, with the ability to play out on the left wing or even in the middle of the park in a pinch, Ludwig is a well rounded striker who can play provider as well as finish off opportunities.

Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 408 games, as of the end of AOCAF LXII. This Eagle's Cup will be during our 12th World Cup Cycle, and this will be our third time entering Eagle's Cup competition. We have entered in 11 previous World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82, WCQ84, WCQ85, and WCQ86), and have made 7 World Cup Finals appearances(WC80-86). We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in three different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, and CoH 71). In three Cup of Harmonies, Banija has never once moved past the group stage in the competition, and in their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point.

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 0-7-2(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

The two teams met twice in Phase 1 of AOCAF LXII, with the Banijans spoiling for their first ever victory against Equestria. They would have to wait a while longer, falling to Equestria 2-1 in the home opener of the tournament, and then earning a 1-1 draw in the Equestrian States.

Following a disappointing home CR, Sigtryggur Brynjólfursson and Særún Toresdóttir have somewhat surprisingly been terminated. While Knattspyrnusamband Græntfjalls conducts a search for a new coach, former U-18 NT coach Torsten Oliversson will oversee the side in a caretaker capacity. As such, expect lots of strict curfews and awkward team talks about coming to terms with changing bodies, but little in the way of tactical innovation or invention.

Squad: A 23-person squad has been named for the tournament, although in practice those numbered 1-11 [except for 10/14] should be expected to start unless otherwise stated.

The Græntfjaller Premier League is gender-mixed and it is seen as uncontroversial for men and women to play alongside each other. If you find this unrealistic you are welcome to RP surprised reaction [although given the general state of NS Sports it would surely be not too much of an outlier] but it won’t be something we dwell on. -son surnames are men, -dóttir women, -bur gender-neutral.
Football is only just becoming a millionaire’s game in Græntfjall, and then only at the top. Players earn a decent wage in the GPL but rarely more than that; the most expensive foreign transfer signings have been low seven figures NS$.
In general, Græntfjaller players are athletic and have excellent whole-match fitness, disciplined, and not prone to violence or emotional outbursts. They are, however, not tremendously skilled.
Græntfjall has for the first time appointed a designated captain. Previously, the team has not had a designated captain and elected a member from among the starting XI prior to the match. However, given the absence of a manager, the team have taken the decision to elect Hrærekur Jvarsson captain for the duration of the tournament. It is not known whether this will continue once a manager is confirmed.
Timing note: Here’s where this gets slightly complicated, if not downright wanky. Having already hosted the CR, there is simply no time for this to take place during the domestic summer. Delaying it to next summer is not possible as on a 2-year cycle, that will coincide with WCQs. Therefore, and completely independent of anyone else thanks to the magic of fluid time, we will be RPing this taking place during the Græntfjaller winter in between the CR summer and WCQ summer. An additional wrinkle is that we have bid to host the BoF. At this time we have no way of knowing whether we will host said BoF, but the KG is proceeding on the basis that all arrangements have to be made with the assumption the tournament venues will be made available. This affects our hosting arrangements (see below).
Because of this, this is not a full-strength side: specifically, only domestic players have been considered (which means omitting the team’s strongest offensive players, who ply their trade abroad) because those playing abroad will generally play during the Græntfjaller winter and we cannot guarantee their availability. The defense is more or less at a level with the first team, the offense is not.

Ever since Græntfjall’s goalkeeping plans were thrown into disarray by a career ending injury to Alexander Leonardsson, things have been, to put it in the most polite terms possible, a complete fucking shitshow. After a merry-go-round of five different players, Christian Einvarðursson started the CR in the #1 jersey, found himself on the bench halfway through, and had crept back up the depth chart by tournament’s end as Nephara thrashed 7 past his stand-in Kauko Jorgesson. Einvarðursson will start the tournament back between the sticks; who or what will finish the tournament there is anyone’s guess. He’s tall and strong, with a big right boot on clearances, but lacks Alexander’s positional awareness and experience. ‘Playing it out from the back’ is not common in Græntfjaller football and few goalkeepers have more than basic footballing skills.

Ralf Álfarsson’s retirement marks the end of the first era of Græntfjaller international football. The prototypical “Big Fucking Græntfjaller” played 55 times and was elected captain more frequently than any other player. But, the show must go on. And fortunately center-backs keep rolling off the production line: the latest model is Mathias Kristersson, rewarded for a truly outstanding domestic season with the Gold Shrews. Græntfjall has no tradition of retiring numbers so #2 has been unsentimentally re-issued (in a somewhat smaller size) to Elektra Lúthersdóttir, who gets a chance at right-back while Karoline Vernerisdóttir sits the tournament out for personal reasons. With both Hilmar Farmansson and Tom Ernestisson playing abroad, their tussle for the starting CB role beside Hjörleifur Reynarsson will have to resume come the WCQs (assuming strong showings from Kristersson et al. haven’t usurped them).

As can be seen by the cap numbers, this is an almost complete sea-change in midfield. Hrærekur Jvarsson, elected captain, is the only steady presence. He plays as a box-to-box midfielder alongside Hæming Tronsson and Álfar Ásvaldursson, two players with a little experience but who’ve been off the national selectors’ radar for a while. Robin and Hanne are speedy wingers, Hanne with a sideline in occasionally spectacular free-kicks. Their GPL teams rely heavily on crossing to a taller player in the box, and they’re not going to cut infield much or dazzle with skills beyond booming in those big crosses. Johanna Álvgeirsdóttir is more of a skilled offensive midfielder and though not thought ready to start at this level, could see playing time as an impact sub.

Jason Þórhallursson’s absence is notable; he’s scored about one third of the country’s entire international goals haul to date. In his place, Græntfjall are going back to basics with three fairly prototypical center forwards, all of whom have had reasonably good domestic seasons in front of goal. Lyngar has disappointed before, Ásvarður is young, and Rato new to this level: all three will play, but it remains to be seen whether any will prosper.

Style modifier: 0

This modifier does not represent a deliberate stylistic choice, but rather that in the absence of a manager they will be ‘neutral’. A truer reflection of their set-up would probably be in the -1.5 range, off-set by the newness of the defense and human turnstiles they keep calling up to play in goal. The default set-up is somewhere between 4-3-3, 4-5-1, and 4-2-3-1: basically they lack a true offensive midfielder or second striker, so are playing three CMs and two wingers in support of the lone striker. Defensive substitutions bringing on extra CBs and DMs can be expected.

Soccer is a summer sport in Græntfjall, which is a wintry, alpine nation with (given its Rushmori location in the temperate zone) an inexplicably harsh climate. Given the timing of this Cup (see above) and potential clash with another Cup (see crossed fingers of hope behind my back) the decision has been taken to play all ‘home’ games at the new National High Performance Sports Center. This obviates any home advantage and may in fact disadvantage Græntfjaller players who have previously struggled in tropical conditions, but there is a clear secondary aim of gaining experience in the conditions, which are likely to be hot and humid, but not unbearably so.

The NHPSC is a large multi-sports complex featuring training areas for almost every Olympic and other major sport that Græntfjall competes in. Built in the last year, it has a football stadium with a projected capacity of 50,000: at present, though, only about half that will be made available for use on match-day as work continues on some stands. In order to meet the minimum requirement of 30,000 [whether or not this requirement exists in NS, we will be roleplaying it as doing so] additional seating will be provided through temporary structures. In most respects the stadium is ‘complete’ and up to full international standards, with the exception of limited corporate hospitality availability.

The NHPSC is based in Græntfjaller Multinesia, the largest constituent island of the Græntfjaller South Indies. Where these lie is somewhat confusing as those consulting the Rushmori regional map will find no reference to them: they certainly exist though and lie in tropical oceans far to the south east/west/up/down/strange/charm/other of the Græntfjaller mainland.

The Græntfjaller South Indies were the only major colonial possession of the Queendom captured during the Age of Piracy. During the 20th century, Græntfjall fell under communist rule and the islands were granted independence, an unfortunate oversight which was quickly corrected in the immediate post-communist era, welcoming the islanders back under the benevolent and wise rule of the mainland, which has brought them many modern amenities such as industrial strip-mining of the landscape, while employment opportunities abound in the sweatshops of the Export Processing Zones that, free from international labor regulations, are veritable hives of industry churning out produce for the Græntfjaller and international markets nearly round-the-clock! Many natural beauty spots have been preserved, however, most of them now playing home to luxury vacation resorts, private residences, and golf courses.

There is a naval base, multiple air strips, and a full marine battalion, on the islands, and a heavily military presence is noticeable. There are some restricted areas where photography is not permitted and some areas of the islands are completely off-limits. Have no fear, though, security is assured, and terrorist groups such as the savage “Multinesian Human Rights Council” and “Indigenous People’s Clean Water Defence Fund” are being firmly policed to prevent any rogue action such as passing on documentation of the pollution of their tribal homelands.

Jonah McCollins had become the new captain more out of experience and reliability than Coach Sonnabend's admiration for him in Bassabook, although that probably didn't hurt either. Sonnabend knew what he was doing and could manage a team well for both short-term and long-term success. If he sometimes sounded a little bizarre with his rambling about fantasy tropes, well, he never expected Jonah to be the voice of the Bigtopian collective consciousness or anything other than just one footballer, either. So that was enough. Usually.

"Coach!" said Jonah, brightly. "Check this out!"

Danger! Beware of krakens!
There have been no confirmed deaths attributable to krakens. Every year sees a few drowning deaths, usually relating to inebriation or sun-stroke, and there have been occasional accidents involving power-boats. For holidaymakers taking sensible precautions, the waters are perfectly safe.

Most Græntfjallers speak English to a high standard and translation errors on signs are rare. In Græntfjaller Multinesia, however, a lower standard of schooling means “Island English” errors can lead to embarrassing miscommunication. The above sign is advertising the dice tables at the Seventh Lagoon Hotel-Casino.

Refreshments are very affordable, costing little more than a couple months’ average salary for one EPZ worker.

“No face coverings permitted”
As Græntfjaller territory, by law every shop and public building must display warning signs pertaining to the Face Coverings Act, colloquially known as the ‘burqa ban’. In practice, very few Multinesians would have much cause to wear a ski-mask.

Sign warning EPZ workers against industrial action. Last year 18 “terrorist ringleaders” were executed for “planning widespread economic sabotage”; critics say they were merely attempting to organize a textiles factory shop-floor. The signs have, inadvertently, become kitsch hits among chemistry students on the mainland.

The sentient creatures from the country of Electrum take part in a competitive endeavour called football, where the objective is to use feet (the bottom two limbs) to move the ball into the opposing team's netted zone, scoring one goal. The most goals wins the match. Electrum's performance in this tournament, which was historically (inter)stellar (winning the "World Cup 78" competition), has fallen by the wayside in recent years, due to the catastrophe that required your (The Computator) intervention. As you may recall, you saved Electrum from a time freeze, which had frozen the country in time while time moved inexorably forward in the fourth dimension across the rest of the multiverse.

If you may recall in the last edition of the World Cup, we embedded some of your inter-dimensional friends from other worlds, to assist the team. Unfortunately, this arrangement has not worked out for certain creatures, so we have replaced some of them with the native sentient creatures. You will be happy to note that Einarsson, King of the Armoured Bears still remains on the team. The Electrumite National Team are not expected to make great success in this competition, which is made up of former champions of this football game as well as random assortments of other sentient creatures.

Savojar Roster for The Eagle's Cup

Coach: Mikaela Rangren
Age: 50 // Coach since: Copa Rushmori 34
Mikaela Rangren has been working for the National Team as an assistant for a long time, before being handed the reins after the sacking of Rune Zackrisson during WCQ 84. She has been given a contract until the end of WC 86, and her appointment represents a turn away from intricate tactics and towards more Savojar virtues. With a more direct approach to the game, relying on Savojarna’s physical culture and passionate, fighting spirit, she has found some success that her predecessors could not find. Rangren has shown a particular strength in keeping the team together, and it seemed like her continued presence as a mediator may have helped to get the team back on track quickly. Reaching two finals of the Copa Rushmori in succession and losing both of them in extra time or penalties, she has been among the better coaches historically; securing qualification to the World Cup has probably cemented her among the Savojar greats.

Andreassen is an old friend of Rangren who has gone through coaching education together with her. He now supports her as an all-round assistant, although he will probably focus more on leading the team on the pitch rather than supporting tactics and preparation.
Jotanov is a rather creative tactical mind and one half of the U-21 co-coaching team. He has been brought on board as part of the WC90 project to create a more unified approach across the three Savojar national teams (adult, U21, U18). He will be here mainly to support Rangren off the pitch with video trainings and tactics briefing.
Lasse Tjoer is the new physical coach after the retirement of the previous conditional trainer Asgeir Rundberg, and has previously worked for multiple SFS teams. He places a lot of emphasis on discipline, but gives the players a large amount of freedom to tune their practice regime to their own tastes as long as they stick to the targets. He is quite popular in the team, and a good motivator.

Goalkeeper Coach: Valtteri Andersson
Age: 51
Andersson was a long-term goalkeeper for Energie Thorsborg and got directly transferred into the club's youth department when he retired at age 33. Following some good work with the club's youth department, he got trained as a GK coach and worked with the first team and the U21 of Energie for a while before being brought onto the squad of the NT early on. He still works with Energie on the side and is reputed to be very good at developing a goalkeeper's weaknesses.

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 57
Christer is the head of the medical team of the Savojar NT and generally has a reputation of being the team’s good soul. Many players have come to him over the years to discuss their insecurities or physical problems, to the point that many consider Ljungberg to essentially be a second mental coach.

As the successor to the Savojar legend Viktorija Petrova, he has taken over the goal mouth with a less flashy, but very consistent and successful style that has carried Savojarna to record heights on the international stage.

Part of the legendary DBC 45 squad, Skov’s career has stalled a little in his early twenties, but he has come back strong since his transfer to Admiral and assumed the position in the national team as Nurkanen started flagging. He is an aggressive fullback who will provide offensive pressure, and known for both speed and stamina.

#3 Milla Viipuri
Position: LB // Age: 22 // Height: 179 cm // Club: Swanguard Athletic (QUE)
Viipuri, who moved to Quebec early, can play on both sides and is defensively solid with very few sparkles, but a lot of solidarity and discipline. Received some attention for her precise tackles and good positional play. On the ball, she is likely to play a solid pass, but is very conservative. Very much a call-up of the “future promise” nature, but has shown domestically and in the WC campaign that she can hold her own.

Zirkova is a pretty exciting defensive player and considered one of the most exciting young players in Savojarna right now. She is defensively solid, although not impassable. Her excitement comes from the abilities in building up the game. Zirkova often moves up to assist the midfielders, or plays long balls from the back to one of the wingers hanging back or even all the way to the playmaker. She also is confident on the ball herself, occasionally dazzling the audience with a good dribble. However, sometimes her judgement is lacking and she commits mistakes unnecessarily.

#5 Matts Pedersen
Position: LB // Age: 27 // Height: 187 cm // Club: Tanrısal (PAS)
Pedersen is another fast, aggressive fullback who is extremely persistent, but joins the offence aggressively. This leads to him being vulnerable to counters over the left side, where he might not be able to react in time if he was too advanced before. He has excellent 1v1 skills on both sides of the ball, but is a bit lacking in passing accuracy. His past issues with decision-making are now considered largely overcome thanks to his high-level experience in Pasarga, and he is considered a mental leader in the team.

#6 Otso Ilkkanen
Position: DM // Age: 25 // Height: 183 cm // Club: FC Rotmunde 1932 (STL)
Ilkkanen is a physical, defensive player with little ball-handling skills. He has a very strong shot, making him a dangerous threat from the back line. Not incredibly aggressive despite his physical skills, and a bit weak in the air, but a strong anchor player. He has played significant minutes at the youth level, earning him a move to Siovanija & Teusland, and is now looking to take root in the adult team. Crown favourite to inherit Andersson’s role.

#7 Mikhail Jashkin
Position: RF // Age: 27 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Directus (EUR)
A fast and technically gifted hybrid winger who is known for a deadly eye and his laser-like passes. While he has decent crossing skills, he tends to opt for a flat pass into the box or a dribbling instead, acting almost as a false nine that plays wide on the right. He is one of the most observed players on the team, and his move to Eura has greatly helped him to develop further into the dominating forward he is today. Holds the title of “most expensive Savojar player in history” as he moved from Farrenton Athletic to Directus for 24 million NSD.

#8 Victoria Maersk [C]
Position: CM // Age: 33 // Height: 157 cm // Club: Vermillion Rage (NPH)
Maersk is a classical box-to-box allrounder who is strong in most tasks, besides her aerial inferiority due to height, and has a high stamina and speed. While not excelling at anything, she is considered a utility player that will probably see a lot of playtime in various positions and roles depending on the situation. Moved to North Sabrefell in a state of insecurity and established herself as a regular in the Premiership, now leading Vermillion Rage.

#9 Sergey Nweke
Position: ST // Age: 24 // Height: 184 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg
Half-Banijan striker Sergey Nweke has played his youth football in Savojarna, but was increasingly linked with Banija’s national team - until a sudden call-up to the Cup of Harmony. He is a solid, physically strong and quick player with good finishing capabilities and a nose for dangerous openings. While Nweke is rarely playing from the start, he fits a multitude of different situations and can expect regular play.

#10 Morten Poulsen
Position: OM // Age: 27 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Poulsen grew from shaky prospect to bona-fide playmaker at Parti, and has enjoyed the love of their fans for a while now despite being in a bit of a slump recently. A creative player that has a large stamina and a good shot, but defensively lacks caution sometimes. Plays in a very similar system at Partisan, although with more offensive freedom; the lack of defensive consciousness in his play made Lundell the first choice.

#11 Simon Jacobsen
Position: ST // Age: 26 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Alnio (CMT)
The (Savojarised) namesake of Starblaydi legend Simeone di Bradini has played in two DBCs, and has now rejoined the national team following some decent seasons in Chromatika. He is a fast striker using his positioning and speed as a key weapon, working best in conjunction with another, more physical striker who can open gaps for him. Profited from a more speed-based tactic of the national team, and moved into the starting position. Defensively, he runs a lot and has good pressing skills, but sometimes lacks in ball-winning ability.

#12 Sergey Sharin
Position: GK // Age: 22 // Height: 182 cm // Club: FK Torpedo Pawlograd
Sergey Sharin has made the move from top talent to serious pro thanks to the fallout between Jurtanen and Radu Bartok during the SFS 8 season, leading to Sharin starting for Torpedo in much of the second half of the SFS, making him one of the few young goalkeepers in Savojarna who have professional experience. He is a clever keeper who thinks ahead and positions excellently, but commonly struggles in reactive situations on the line. Now he has been brought into the national team as a long-term option.

#13 Anja Loeseth
Position: RB // Age: 20 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Dynamo Sjoedrhavn U21
The sister of DBC 45 Savojarna captain Victor Loeseth, and playing at the same club, she is a fast and offensively minded player. She is sometimes even used as a more defensive RM if required, as she has a good cross and a good ability to take the ball away from an opponent in running. Loeseth's biggest weaknesses are her likelihood to play more aggressively than is appropriate, and a slight lack of dribble and short passing skill.

#14 Rika Lundell
Position: OM // Age: 25 // Height: 167 cm // Club: North Laithland (NPH)
Having emerged more or less out of nowhere, Rika Lundell has become one of the stars of the current SFS season and is considered part of the miraculous rise of Rotor Värstjö. Lundell is an extremely agile player with dazzling technique, and a good eye for openings and passing lanes. Her defensive capabilities, as well as her chance at withstanding physical opposition, are a bit lacklustre, but she often finds ways to compensate by thinking ahead and using her speed to her advantage.

#15 Juhamatti Rajala
Position: LF // Age: 25 // Height: 190 cm // Club: Brisara FC (CMT)
Rajala is extremely hard to contain because of his explosivity and the fact that despite his height and weight of 92 kg, he accelerates extremely fast. His top speed is actually not that great, and he is somewhat limited in dribbling, but he can be a good utility player to disrupt the opponents. Supposed to grow into a starting role at CASK, he was outplayed by Euran prodigy Wallace Pickton and moved to Chromatika, where he assumed a crucial role at Brisara that earned him an international callup.

#16 Vidkun Nymark
Position: CB // Age: 22 // Height: 193 cm // Club: Laketown Rangers (TAE)
Nymark is a Savojar centre-back straight from a picture book: Strong and tall, heading out every cross coming his way and making strikers intimidated by sheer presence. Some people feared he may struggle with speedier and cleverer international pro competition, but his stint at Laketown Rangers showed that this was completely unfounded - he has established himself in Taeshan as a defensive force.

#17 Dmitri Dmitriev
Position: CB // Age: 23 // Height: 204 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Dmitriev is extremely tall, and a towering presence in the box, and a strong header, which made him a threat on both sides in the past. When on the ball, he is limited, often relying on a quick pass to the side or a clearance; however, he has established himself to be defensively strong enough to make up for these limitations.

#18 Ola Lapanen
Position: MS // Age: 25 // Height: 171 cm // Club: Capetown Crocs (TAE)
Lapanen is a short player that can play either as a playmaker or a striker. In either case, he lurks between the lines and has a brilliant eye for through passes or dribblings. He is an excellent dribbler and has a very precise shot, but lacks a bit in killer instinct as well as in height, making him a weak header. Best used behind the lines or together with a tall striker.

#19 Krister Voynov
Position: LF // Age: 29 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Raynor City United (VAL)
Potentially the most exciting single player in the Savojar team, this fast and skilful winger is a constant threat. Voynov loves to swing inside to challenge an opposing defender directly and is extremely good in 1v1 situations. He also scores many goals with a strong and precise shot, and has accurate passing skills as well. His main weakness is a lack of defensive work, forcing the left side to cover for his roaming.

#20 Paddi Gren
Position: CM // Age: 27 // Height: 177 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg
Gren is a midfielder that can be used in a variety of positions, with good dribbling skills and a special taste for dangerous free kicks. Although he plays in a playmaker position for CASK, his strength lies more in winning and carrying the ball, making him more of a natural shuttler. He is likely to come off the bench to make sure that Savojarna have options, most likely either in the playmaking position or as a replacement for Maersk in the end of the game.

#21 Kristina Midtjaer
Position: RF // Age: 24 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Rockridge Phoenix (BRE)
Midtjaer is a fast winger who runs up and down the sidelines, but cuts in at sharp angles regularly. She almost always runs down the right line and shows very late whether she will aim for a cross or a cut towards the goal. Technically brilliant, but still a bit lacking in defence; Brenecia was supposed to toughen her up, which seemed to have worked based on the World Cup.

#22 Aleksandra Virulainen
Position: GK // Age: 25 // Height: 181 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Virulainen uses a great awareness and control of the box to counter-act her comparatively lower height and has shown brilliant oversight. She is among the best goalkeepers in Savojarna, and by far the best of her age when it comes to ball-on-foot skills. Both at Partisan and at the national team, she has quickly established herself and is now second in the chain behind Pakanen.

#23 Roman Forsberg

Forsberg is another one of the Savojar ball-secure, modern CB's, but shows some nerves at times. He has greatly profited from taking on a more important role in his club and has cut down on his mistakes, but is still prone to occasional over-aggressive positioning or similar faults. His best skill is his heading, as he is a very strong jumper and tall player. He will often join the attack on standards.

All home games of Savojarna will be played at the Nationalstadion Carl Gustaf Bjurman, a 76'800-seater in the capital city of Sjoedrhavn that doesn't play host to any club, but is used exclusively as a national stadium for football and rugby union, host of the Cup Final, and an occasional concert venue. The Bjurman, as it is commonly referred to in short, is located in a park called Revolutionsparken or Park of the Revolution that has been planned in the late 1920s and finished in 1931 to commemorate the Second Savojar-Adyati War. It is reachable by metro, and the stadium is an all-seater.

This was proving to be a long morning for Constantine Martyn. The city wanted to further develop the area around the Eagles' Club, the marquee stadium of east Nephara, Brinemouth's current home and, in a few months, to host a sequence of internationals. Over the past couple days he'd been walking through various architects and their proposals, and he already had a pretty good idea of the guys his report would recommend should get the job, but now, as he got to the long shots, well...
"... Sorry, what the fuck is an Entertainment Cathedral meant to be?"
Jens Miller sighed. Why couldn't this oaf understand his genius? "It's precisely what it sounds like, Constantine."
"It sounds like marketing bullshit."
"Ah! No pollution in my mindscape."
"... What?"
"Look. It's like... we're trying to ... what are we trying to create here."
"An Entertainment Cathedral, apparently--"
"We're trying to create an environment in which the Eagles' Club is but the centrepiece. Right? A place to, to, to dazzle. To stun."

Constantine pursed his lips. "They're... perfect. They were repaved like two years ago. And it's a bougie district, nobody like fucked with the cement, drew a cock or went like 'Natasha was here' or--"
"Yes, precisely! Precisely. It's soulless, is what it is. Remember the rhyme, from when you were a child, uh... Step on the crack, break the king's back..."
"Yeah, step on the line, break the queen's spine. And you had to hit all the cracks you could, yeah, I get it, I remember. So your proposal is that this like... hypercommercialised, upscale district should have some badly-paved roads harking back to when the country was fucking broke, 'cause then kids can play."

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

The Valladar national under-21 football team is known for having a more conservative and traditional formation than its senior counterpart, using four defenders, three midfielders, a playmaker and two forwards. However, and just like the senior side, La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue, while also exerting a huge amount of pressure when they are not in possession of the ball. This squad relies on the associations between midfielders Marcelo Escobar, William Alonso and Fabio Cardetti with playmaker Adrien Trolli, who will be in charge of pulling the strings of the team's offensive effort and responsible for providing passes and assists to capable forwards Iván Valenzuela and Gabriel Riveros, and their substitutes. Through the flanks, Michael Lloyd and Pablo Núñez should be able to give some support to the offensive effort as well as blocking any attempts by the rival to send crosses to the Valladar box. Both Valenzuela and Riveros should also be expected to work under the premises of the typical Valladar forward: high speed and pace, talented, skillful, and with the ability to seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

Fresh Faces galore as Marcus Waters opts to give borderline players an opportunity to impress ahead of World Cup 87 Qualifying

ASKATASUNA, ASKUM- Eagle's Cup IX is upon us. We enter, of course, as both the defending and the world champions at this tournament. Everybody remembers Eagle's Cup VIII, when Banija, after an early tournament loss against Chromatika, vaulted themselves forward for a run that eventually ended in silverware. Many gave the tournament credit as jumpstarting the national team for a pair of cycles, as they had sent a first choice squad to this tournament. Waters said that the trophy earned at Eagle's Cup VIII was 'integral' to his team's World Cup success at the next two tournaments, because it was there where they truly learned how to win consistently over the course of an entire tournament.

And now, it's a very different look Banijan squad. The Banijans had quite a long regional tournament- we played 13 games, and logged thousands upon thousands of travel miles during the tournament. Because of that, and plus the long World Cup, Marcus Waters decided to give much of the senior team this tournament off. "It's important that our senior players get their rest." He told reporters. "We can't run them ragged for their country and have their form suffer at their clubs because of it. No, we have a deep enough player pool where for tournaments like this, we can have an opportunity to try out a number of players wearing the shirt."

He then spoke about the importance of squad rotation at a national team level. "This wasn't something we had the luxury of doing when I first go to Banija- the player pool was too shallow, the top level talent wasn't there yet. But now, the top level talent is there. We saw it at the World Cup. We saw it at the AOCAFs, where we damn near made our second consecutive major tournament final. But we got players closing in, pushing up from behind. While the squad that was in the AOCAFs will largely, besides a few exceptions, not play here, we've got an exciting group of players, both young and veteran, who have a chance to make a name for themselves and make their case for inclusion on the longlist for World Cup Qualifying."

And he is right. This is a record for number of players receiving their first ever call-up- there are 23 members of the squad, and 19 have yet to put on this shirt on the senior level. But plenty of them have won trophies at the youth level. Kausu Dione, this team's #9, was the #9 for both the U18 and U21 Banijan teams that won world titles. Much of this squad- Dawit, Uchie, Coote, Kouyaté, etc... Came from one of those two teams. But there are just as many that are here as late bloomers. Players like Kabiru Sowe and Tamba Kama never got those opportunities, and yet, here they are. Waters has not ignored the youth, however, grabbing the talented 18 year old striker Kamara Touré, who plays for Mar Sara FC in Valanora.

So who do we got? Expect the manager to rotate players- he'll be trying to make a run, of course, but he wants to use a lot of the group stage for talent evaluation. Expect changes to the starting XI after every other group stage matchday, before he finally settles on one for the knockouts(if we make the knockouts, which when considering our competition is much easier said than done). So who do we got out here? One featured player is Wanda Kouyaté. She's won in all sorts of places. By our best count, Wanda Kouyaté is the only player in the history of world football to have won a U18 World Cup, U21 World Cup, and the actual World Cup, all as a player. It's an impressive record for the goalkeeper to hold. She plays for Jungle Strike FC in Vilita, consistently winning silverware there.

But it's interesting- although she's got all this silverware, she's spent plenty of time on the bench. While she played in a number of World Cup Qualifiers, she didn't get a single minute of playing time during the World Cup 86 Finals, as she lost the goalkeeper competition and backed up Francois Tantoh. She's second choice at Jungle Strike FC. She was second choice at the U18 World Cup that Banija won. But she was the starting goalkeeper for the DBC 47 team, when Banija lifted the U21 World title. Although Marcus Waters offered her a chance to take this tournament off and rest, she declined the opportunity. She wanted the chance to be the starter for her country at a senior level tournament, and the chance to show off her skills for the coach. She was given the armband for the tournament as well, signaling she'll be the team's vocal leader at this tournament.

There are other players whom you may have heard of who will get a chance to make their mark. Remember Theresa Lubalo? She left Jinja City for greener pastures, and she found them, like many Banijans do, in Valanora. It's a certified pipeline now. She signed for bigger dollars and a chance to impress at Ibini FC. While Dawit will start in her position for Matchdays 1 and 2, it's almost certain that when Waters does some more squad rotation, she'll get a chance to be in the starting XI. Chiokie Uchie has been an excellent defender for Marine Coast United in Vilita, but hasn't had a chance to break through to the national team yet. Will this be his chance?

Those are just a few of the interesting storylines regarding these players. We have a whole host of domestic based players on this squad as well, who will be starting for their clubs for the first time next season. Players like Ijeawele Halim, who was on the bench last season for Istria City FC but will move to the starting XI. Or someone like Babaja Mboob, who is in the same situation. But a really interesting one to follow will be the 18 year old- Kamara Touré. With Banija not sending a team to any youth tournament(U18, U21, or Olympiad) for the first time in a while, there's no chance this time around to see who our up and coming youngsters are. We had the Olympics before World Cup 86, the DBCs before World Cup 84, and the U18 World Cup before World Cup 83. Scouted as a teenager, he skipped the Banijan professional scene and signed with Mar Sara FC quickly. He's got to be good if he's getting looks from Valanora sides at his age- but can he prove himself in a senior level tournament?

Despite all the squad experimentation, Waters expectations are not down. "Look, we play to win the game." He said. "It's not controversial- it's why any of us, from any country, are here. There will be a lot of evaluation going on- on the training ground, on the pitch, how you conduct yourself on and off the field, how you fit in, your work ethic, discipline, etc... But we will be going for this trophy. We're the holders- it goes through us. It hasn't been that long since we played Krytenia in the AOCAF Quarterfinal. I look forward to meeting them on the pitch at St. Sava Park."

For the uninitiated, a trip to the Eternal Empire can be a tad bit confusing, as the collective ban on motor vehicles for civilians means the modes of transportation for traversing the sprawling empire are not what one might be accustomed to when coming from other nations. Traversing from one major metropolitan area to another within the Empire is the easiest of the travel, as high speed rail connects all of the empire's major population centers on the mainland of Valanora, meaning that one can travel from Rinaldi to Coral Bay without much fuss at all. The more rural areas are usually connected with rail, though only those along the routes to the major population areas usually have the high speed rail installed, with the more remote destinations having more old fashioned rail lines still in use, making those trips a tad more longer to take and more difficult to schedule for those who are on the go with great haste. However what can be said for all the rail systems in the Empire, be it in the mainland or one of the other areas held by the Eternal Empire, is that there has been the most minimum of invasiveness used for setting up the line with regards to the local terrain and environment, with caring for the environment having been at the forethought of any major infrastructural pursuits.

Arriving to the Empire, there are two options that are afforded to tourists, either by plane and to one of the numerous international airports on the mainland, or via boat and arriving at one of the five major port cities on the mainland, if one wishes for expediate travel within the rest of the empire for the reasons listed above. Finding places to stay is quite easy for anyone wishing to visit the Empire, as numerous taverns, inns, as well as modern hotels are dotted throughout most cities as well as the former being found in the more remote locations within the empire. When visiting the Empire, one should do their best to try and visit the Old Forest, a densely packed forest in the middle of the the mainland that forms an oval around what was the old Inner Kingdom of the old Elven Alliance. While these days this sign may be more prevalent at Cocoabo Park in the Cocoabo Forest, the Cocoabo Crossing sign can still be found in some areas of Turori, particularly in roads leading to the North-Western community of Inura in the Inura Forest.

The Cocoabo Crossing sign warns of the presence of Free-Roaming Cocoabo in the area. The Cocoabo Preservation Society has historically count of the number of Cocoabo Crossing signs that are present in the Island Emirate of Turori and uses the addition - or removal of such signs as a first-order indicator of the national impact of their efforts. Of course, since the adoption of the lands of the Cocoabo Forest, it has become even more difficult for the Cocoabo Preservation Society to justify maintaining dedicated native lands for the Cocoabo on Turori's main island and some Cocoabo Crossing signs have been removed in recent years. The Cocoabo Preservation Society is fighting back, however, with a campaign showing positive interactions between Citizen and Cocoabo in a fictional day-to-day setting.

While traditional Neon-lighting is not permitted outside of certain exempted high-traffic areas particularly in city centers and around sporting venues, some businesses have used alternate lighting technologies to create a "Neon Glow" like effect surrounding their everyday signs to make them more visible in the Turorian darkness. Cocoa-bo, an establishment taking its name directly from the beloved national animal of Turori, started as a small dessert shop in Kionao. However, it was only after they added chocolate topped drinks to their menu that their popularity started to soar. Fixture :: Eagle's Cup XIX - Matchday 1: Turori v. Zwangzug

Location :: The Eagle's Club is located in the purpose built city of Eelandii, midway between the Turorian cities of Almintora and Cednia.

Capacity :: 8,000 + Add'l Temporary Seating

Stadium History :: Although Turori were champions of Eagle's Cup III, the purpose built Eagle's Club facility in Eelandii was not constructed until just prior to Eagle's Cup V. Prior to this, Almintora National Stadium in Almintora was Turori's designated Eagle's facility.

The main pitch at the Eagle's Club has only one permanent grand stand which sits directly over the facility entrance at the south end of the stadium behind the goal with a capacity of about 8,000. The main pitch is available as a practice facility for any Eagle's Club member, permanent or cyclic honorary members, when visiting Atlantian Oceania or Turori whether they are contesting an International Match or just holding a tour practice. There are additional pitches and sport facilities on the complex accessible only to Eagle's Club members. Additionally, all facilities in the purpose built sporting hub of Eelandii are available to Eagle's Club members on a first-come first-serve basis.

During Eagle's Cup events, temporary grandstands are constructed along the two long sides of the pitch supporting between 20-45,000 additional fans. The temporary grand stands are physically separated from the pitch by a Brick promenade covered in vine overgrowth.

The most important event held at the Eagle's Club is the Champions Ceremony. While the Eagle's Cup Final is typically held off-site to encourage larger attendance numbers, the final contestants return to the Eagle's Club to receive their medals. Prior to the medal ceremony, a third place match is held to determine which nation will receive the bronze medals. For logistical purposes, the Third Place Playoff match goes straight to penalty kicks if tied after 90 minutes, ensuring the medal ceremony is not delayed. This scheduling detail also makes the Eagle's Cup unique in that the third place playoff match takes place after the competition final.

Primary Tenants :: All members of the Eagle's Club are the primary tenants at the Eagle's Club main pitch. The expanded-seating capacity Eagle's Club venue is used only for Eagle's Club knockout round matches or matches between two Eagle's Club members.

Fixture :: Eagle's Cup XIX - Matchday 2: Turori v. Valanora

Location :: Almintora National Stadium is located in Almintora, Turori. Almintora is the capital city of the Island Emirate of Turori and has been the capital ever since the time of Turorian independance.

Capacity :: 79,000 (All Seated)

Stadium History :: The Almintora National Stadium served as the home of the Football Association of Turori and the Turori National team from their entrance onto the international competition scene prior to World Cup 15 until the Football Association relocated their headquarters to the purpose built Eels Park community in Eelandii, Turori.

The Almintora National Stadium was originally constructed as a 45,000 seat stadium for use by the National Team during World Cup 15 and World Cup 16 qualification. However, when it became evident that Turori's nearby neighbors, the Tropics of Vilita, were being considered as the potential hosts of World Cup 17, the Football Association of Turori strategically aligned itself with their former colonial lands in order to ensure that of the 8 stadia selected for the World Cup Finals, one would be from Turori. Naturally, the Almintora National Stadium was the stadium of choice and would serve as the first time the Island Emirate of Turori would open its doors to a major international event. With a lot on the line, the Turorian government partnered with the Football Association of Turori to increase the capacity of the Almintora National Stadium from 45,000 to 79,000 in time for the World Cup 17 finals.

The move was proven even more fruitful when the Turori Eels themselves qualified for the World Cup 17 finals, the first finals appearance for Turori, and were able to play each of their group stage matches at their home stadium.

With the success of hosting one group of the World Cup 17 finals at the Almintora National Stadium, Turori had put itself on the map. Soon after it would be announced that the Island Emirate of Turori would host World Cup 19 in a joint bid with The Belmore Family. Naturally, the crown jewel of Turorian stadiums, the Almintora National would ultimately host the World Cup Final - the single most prestigious match in the multiverse.

Unfortunately for the Almintora National Stadium, hosting the World Cup 19 final was something of a 'peak' over the course of the stadiums lifespan. Co-sharing the arena between the Turori National Team and Turorian domestic side FC Almintora accelerated the wear, tear and aging within the facility. To make matters worse, the mediocre performance of FC Almintora in the domestic league meant that incentive to invest in further rennovation of the arena was minimal. The stadium would still be chosen to host the final of the 26th Cup of Harmony, but even by that time the Cednia Beach Center in Cednia had started to become the premier sporting facility on the Island. In fact, even the Cup of Harmony 26 final was originally awarded to the newly built Coliseum of the Inurahtii in the Inura Forest, however, the Safety & Health Initiative of Turori determined that the site would not be ready in time to host spectators, with the Final site being retroactively chosen as the Almintora National Stadium due to its experience having hosted the World Cup 19 final.

Despite having been supplanted as Turori's international stadium of choice, the Almintora National Stadium has accrued one honor that no other stadium in Turori - or in Vilita, can lay claim. Almintora National Stadium is the only stadium in Vilita & Turori to have been selected as a host site for the UICA Globe Cup, having been home to the 55th Globe Cup final. Almintora National Stadium also hosted the 66th UICA Champions Cup Final.

Primary Tenants :: FC Almintora currently compete in the Vilitan Declasse Division. The Turori National Team continue to play occasional matches at the arena during World Cup Qualifying due to the arenas central location in Almintora, the capital city of Turori.

Location :: Cocoabo Park Arena is located at Cocoabo Park in the Cocoabo Forest. The Cocoabo Forest is a Cocoabo Preserve built on Calanian lands formerly held in trust by the Atlantian Oceania Regional Defense Organization (AORDO). Stadium History :: Cocoabo Park Arena is a sports and demonstration complex created at Cocoabo Park to attract future sporting events to the Tropicorp-CPS collaborative education, enrichment and entertainment destination on the shores of the Cocoabo Forest.

The Eagle's Cup VI final at Cocoabo Park Arena was a well attended fixture, open to the public with any admission to the Cocoabo Park. Major events at the Cocoabo Park Arena also serve as educational events as visitors are be able to learn about the Cocoabo, ongoing Preservation efforts at the Cocoabo Forest and see Cocoabo in their re-constructed natural habitat. Cocoabo Park Arena has also hosted Cocoabo Squad matches for the Turori National Team as well as being a major venue of the Tropicorp hosted AOCAF LIVe.

Primary Tenants :: Cocoabo Park Arena has no permanent tenants. It has been used as a training and demonstration facility for the Cocoabo Enrichment & Enhancement Project (CEEP) as well as hosting International Matches for Turori and Tropicorp. It is expected that future uses for Cocoabo Park Arena may include events and shows for Park visitors included displays by trained and skilled Cocoabo as well as one-off international caliber sporting events. The Cocoabo Forest team in the Tropicorp Lower Leagues play occasional games in the arena.

Xannerian Football is played differently than most countries. For one it is hyper offensive with most teams using either 4 or 5 forwards who run directly at the goal with balls being passed only when necessary. Defense is even more alarmingly different as Xanneria RARELY calls penelties on diving (unless injuries occur) and its actually common for players to attempt to bump other players out of the way, granted this is also heavily moderated (Shoving a player with your hands is a penalty and shoving a player perpendicular to you is also a penalty). International players are trying to surpress excessive brutality, but sometimes in the heat of the game they forget. So feel free to have some of my players get Yellow carded for aggressive play.
