Desmond died and we had the greatest excuse to never deal with these segments again, but Ubisoft insists this dumb framing device stays around anyways.

I don't even know what I'm supposed to be doing. I've run around this whole area, it won't let me back into the house to get back into the animus, and this go-everywhere-until-you-find-something-to-interact-with gameplay is abysmal. And I say that as somebody who loves the Life is Strange games.

The only Assassin's Creed game I played before Odyssey was Assassin's Creed 3. So far I think this has been a healthy mix of the two, as in Valhalla has been more Assassin's Creed-y than Odyssey was. Well, healthy until I got to this fucking modern day section. I'm experiencing pain.

There was some reference to aliens in the form of an ancient race who lived in Atlantis in Odyssey, I think.

Explaining the functions of the bureaucracy does little to curtail the suspension of disbelief.

I don't understand what is preventing you from suspending your disbelief.

I'm not talking about sequels. If nothing changes in Fallout after you help or doom Necropolis then helping or dooming Necropolis isn't a substantial choice in the game. Compare Fallout 3. What happens when you blow up Megaton? Basically nothing. Liam Neeson has one different line for you. Moira becomes a ghoul.

Which is why Fallout 1 and 2 are superior to its Bethesda cousins. As noted in my statement up the chain, these problems have been in fact occurring ever since fallout introduced the 3 choice streamlined model.
Stealthy backstabber with a silver tongue who either saves or dooms a community in Halcyon: Bad. Simplified. Preachy.
Stealthy backstabber with a silver tongue who either saves or dooms a community in Fallout: Good. Morally ambiguous. Complex.

Have you even played the original fallout? Even attacking a raider camp, you can literally stealth and pretend to be some raiders ghost relative to free a hostage. Instead of fighting them or making a deal with them. The philosophy of Fallout 1 and 2 was to create as many different options for the player as the developers could think of and fit into the game.

That's nice, but doesn't really speak to how either saving or dooming a community in Fallout is so great and amazing but doing the same thing, either saving or dooming a community, is boring and simplified when you do it in the Outer Worlds or other modern games.

Every company is always trying to make a profit over making a good product. That's what companies are for.

Prioritizing on making a good product can sometimes rake in more profits than focusing on making a product can provide. Theres are reason why lootboxes and other egregious models are facing a bit of a lashback lately. Im no rural bumpkin daisy, who thinks companies are not meant to make a profit, but I'm atleast know that making the development cycle focusing on maximum profits doesn't always work, does it? Else ye draw the ire of the governments of the world. *cough* *cough* EA.

Everything companies do is always focussed on maximising profits. They introduced lootboxes to make money, and they're pulling back on that to make money.

I didn't say anything about you.

True, but ya usin' the "yer an elitist" sarcasm all ye like, ain't going to help you in this argument.

Ah, I see, it undermines the moral ambiguity to have someone there telling you that it's bad to hurt other people for your own selfish ends.

No it undermines the importance of the decision if some persons dialogue relating to the decision, takes longer then the decision itself.

I have no idea why you think this is a problem. Is it that there are more voiced lines in games now than dialogue that's just text?

Atleast on first play through. Roleplaying games are all about playing into your role, and giving nice hard decisions for you. Consequences should have a weight to them. As you said, the megaton consequences are shit, you blasted an entire city. And no real consequence save for a now gone town, and a ghoul. Thats some real salad dressing without a salad. In other words shit. Not that Outer Worlds is much better though. Its like comparing green apples to red apples.

In Fallout you can either help or doom Necropolis. Is this a hard decision? Seems pretty obviously immoral to fuck over another community to try and save your own, at least to me, but I suppose someone else might take the position that helping one's own community is such a high priority that nothing else matters and just take the path of least resistance.

In The Outer Worlds you have to choose between sparing Edgewater and dooming the Emerald Vale, or dooming Edgewater and sparing the Emerald Vale. Is this an easy decision? Getting what you want involves the same process either way, so you have to actually choose which of these two communities will survive. I suppose a player might just side with Edgewater because you meet them first, if they don't care about the choices the game is presenting them with.

There's a storyline? I thought the fun was just getting to mess about in an expansive open world ancient Greece/Norway

I haven’t played or even watched the game, so I have no clue. I assumed it had the same storyline issues as the rest, but a lack of it is even worse

Yup. The developers intentionally made stealing the Necropolis water chip the path of least resistance, but it's a really scummy option that just has the effect of making the game far less satisfying to play, since it ends one of the main story arcs prematurely. So, in a sense, it does actually punish a player for doing it.

I do miss the days when the characters had real endings to their journeys.

We still don’t know what happened to Connor.

Amazon said it is investigating what has happened to missing PlayStation 5 deliveries, amid reports of thefts.

Some UK customers opened delivery boxes to find unordered items such as kitchen appliances or toys inside, instead of the in-demand console.

Many feared their consoles had been stolen in transit, with allegations levelled at delivery staff.

"We're really sorry about that and are investigating exactly what's happened," Amazon said.

If it's the drivers then they'll get caught, as all the packages will be traceable to specific drivers, so as soon as they see that a dozen PS5 deliveries in a consignment had been switched then they'll be sus of that driver.

For people who have played Valhalla how does it portray the vikings and the anglo-saxons? Are the vikings good and the saxons all bad or whats going on.

Also ive heard you cant kill civilians in this game either, i know thats the norm for AC games but you are a damn viking, its kind of a big thing they did.

While I can see why this is problematic the AC series has already set up historically popular figures as Templars and unpopular figures as Assasins.
They've pretty much made it clear that history as we understand it is a lie in universe and has been rewritten to serve the Templar narrative.

So yeah maybe the Christians in Britain were the oppressors and the Vikings really were freedom fighters or whatever in game because we're already dealing with alternate history and unreliable narrators so fuck it.

Eh. Not really. Plenty of Anglo-Saxons are portrayed as good people and several characters point out that the Scandinavians are invaders. Their still shown a little too positive light imo but honestly who comes to AC for historical accuracy?
