Puck Watch: Jags Bounce Back With Shutout In The Rink!

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Nov 13, 2020 9:25 am

After an entertaining game spelt defeat in Transvolcanic, Ølson Rasmussen and his Ice Jaguars looked to bounce back on home ice. The first game of the tournament at The Rink in The Gardens of New Washington was always going to be a great affair, but the defeat to Transvolcanic made this game all the more important as a way to showcase TJUN-ian might. The opponents who would play in The Rink first was the other unranked team in this group in the form of Tjorl. No one knew much about Tjorl heading into the contest, apart from the fact they lost 2-0 at home against Recuecn, but Rasmussen wasn't going to take any chances against unranked opposition, not after what happened at the VIC.

This game would be more straight forward for the Jags that last time, with one goal in each period. The first was by Ryan Pericic, clearly recovering from his knock from last game to score with ease. The 2nd was by a familiar face on the scoresheet as Julian Visipils found his 3rd goal in 2 games. the third would be by, of all people, defenceman David Stewart with a nice shot from mid-rink to seal the game for the Ice-Jags in spectacular fashion. It was a good day all round as finally, the Jags got their first win in the only group that has seen no draws after 2 rounds of games.

1-1 after 2 is not bad at all, but now the real test emerges with the final 3 games before the break all against ranked opposition. First up is a trip to Recuecn, ranked 15th overall and certainly a good side. Can the Jags match-up and take a great win on the road? We'll see. GO JAGS!

Familiar foes beckon for Ice Wolves

Græntfjall recorded their first win of the 41st World Cup of Hockey, beating regional rivals Bleronia in a tight-fought game at the WMM Arena in Ilsburg. Jack Jokulsson came up with the winner, wristing in a rebound midway through the second period, while Tom Finngeirsson was effective, saving 19 shots, and no doubt grateful for having slightly less work than against the Ibex. Berti Stuka by contrast had 31 shots rained on his goal. Merkur Meroti came closest to scoring for the Bleronians with a hard shot saved with combination of glove and facemask 91 seconds into the first period, while Auðunn Friðlaugursson earned his keep for the Ice Wolves, scoreless but relentless in back-checking and winning all of his face-offs. But it will be another demanding test next as the Ice Wolves face HUElavia, a team that beat them twice during their ill-fated 40th World Cup debut.

BEARS OFF TO TEPID STAR AT WCOH

ROCHESTER, Co. Monroe -- While some in Fluvannia may still be coming down from a WJHC silver medal on home ice, most have noticed that the senior team -- including call-ups and silver medalists Teimo Peräjärvi an Iehira Tanaka -- has begun play in the 41st World Cup.

Unfortunately, the team themselves may not have completely gotten the memo. Following a 2-2 tie with Cassadaigua to open the tournament, the Bears were shut out at home by budding rival Banija. Now, it should be noted that some have referred to Group E, in which Fluvannia is playing, as the "group of death": along with Cassadaigua and Banija, two perennial contenders on the international scene -- and the Fluvannian team, which has steadily seen its international stock rise -- the Group also features Northwest Kalactin and Megistos, who have competed semi-regularly at the senior and junior levels (and should not be discounted), and Rwekazaland, who are making their international debut. That said, if the Bears are to right the ship, they must take advantage of their next few games. They had their tougher opponents up front, and while their fortunes have not exactly been the most encouraging, it should be possible for them to reverse their fortunes against some of their lower-ranked opponents, all of whom are coming up in the next few games. Next they make their first trip away from Rochester for the tournament, to Megistos, who have only managed to beat Rwekazaland and tie with Northwest Kalactin thus far. While they should by no means be underestimated as an opponent, it is safe to say that the odds are in the Bears' favor.

The schedule for Fluvannia's group play is as follows, with opponents and location TBD:

Wed, Nov 11: vs. Cassadaigua T 2 - 2
Thu, Nov 12: vs. Banija L 0 - 3

Terre Septentrionale beats United Hemand Istria

United Hemand Istria - After losing against New Waldensia on the home opener, Terre Septentrionale travelled to United Hemand Istria and beat them 4-2. Funnily, it seems no nation under that name exists, however there's a nation called United Hemand Insia located in Europeia. The team travelled to that place and they were indeed in the right place. Terre Septentrionale attacked midway in the 1st period when Virginie Woodbury carried the puck on a 2 on 1 with Melania Zyskowska. Woodbury passed to Zyskowska who passed back to Woodbury. Wodbury shoots and it's a goal. 1-0 Terre Septentrionale. United Hemand Insia scored with 2 minutes remaining in the period and the game was tied at 1-1.

A United Hemand Insian player was penalized for hooking early in the 2nd period and Terre Septentrionale had a power play. Emilia Zyskowska had the puck and she passed it to Fryderyka Krzyszczyk at the blueline who passed to Kévin Beauregard. Beauregard shoots. Jenny Hockey deflects it into the net and it's a power play goal. 2-1 Terre Septentrionale. The Reprezentacja Nordycki attacked again with 6 minutes remaining and Kasandra Wojcinowicz scored on a wrist shot assisted by Jenny Hockey. The score was 3-1. and this is the score after 40 minutes.

With 12 minutes remaining in the 3rd period, Antoine Lusignan dumps the puck in UHI territory, a defenseman picks up the puck but at the same time, Günther Schützenauer battles him for the puck in the left corner. Schützenauer comes out with the puck and shoots. The goalie makes the save but he doesn't control the puck. Pierre Sanschagrin takes the loose puck and shoots. it's a goal and Terre Septentrionale's lead is increased to 4-1. United Hemand Insia scored another goal before the end of the game and Terre Septentrionale won 4-2.

BOXSCORE

1ST PERIOD
11:28 - Melania Zyskowska assisted by Virginie Woodbury
2:13 - UHI Player assisted by UHI Player and UHI Player

2ND PERIOD
16:45 - Jennifer "Jenny Hockey" Gaudreault assisted by Kévin Beauregard and Fryderyka Krzyszczyk (PPG)
6:04 - Kasandra Wojcinowicz assisted by Jennifer "Jenny Hockey" Gaudreault and Krzysztof Klepczynski

3RD PERIOD
11:49 - Pierre Sanschagrin assisted by Günther Schützenauer
4:33 - UHI Player assisted by UHI Player and UHI Player

Group D

It was a weak opponent, but it was a huge win considering we lost on matchday 1. In the other game of interest, Siovanija and Teusland drew 0-0 with Québec. you may think a 0-0 draw was boring, but it wasn't the case, lots of action, both goalies made fantastic saves but there wasn't a winner. While it could satisfy Québec, it clearly doesn't please the Goldhorns who will have a knife in their teeth when they'll play us on matchday 3. In the other game, New Waldensia beat Austrakia 3-2 and are now leading our group. On matchday 3, Terre Septentrionale will recieve Siovanija and Teusland at the Forum de Longueuil in the capital city of Ville Jacques-Cartier. Longueuil is a slum whitin Ville Jacques-Cartier, located just south of downtown. Terre Septentrionale's line up remains unchanged. Meanwhile, Québec will recieve group leaders New Waldensia.

.:: From the ASPN Blog After Thoughts in a Blip ::.
1720 hours, 13 November 2020.3

Man oh man, first my blog gets signed for the AO Cup, and now, I get the World Cup of Hockey!

Now, I am not that versed in hockey, but hey... sports are sports! Besides, my cousin plays for Omashu so I've seen a couple of games. And my great-grandfather did play for the beer league team that played at the same practice facility as the Capitals...

Distant strings tie us all together...

After the first game the Ice Bisons played — a 2-all draw in front of a sold-out home crowd off in Republic City at The Capital Centre — many were a little off-put by the effort presented by the team. Hiteki Kia, a usual standout on the second line was tragically injured in the second period of the Tikariot game. On a blind pass, Kia took a sharp turn behind the net, only to loose his footing and land hard on the ice. Helped off the ice, Kia did not return to the game, and we are still awaiting word from Doctor Fong on his status for the third game against Kohnhead.

Against -Anthor- however, the Ice Bisons came into their own. On the second line, Kia's spot was filled by Ki'an Losow, who managed to net his second multiverse goal. The team managed to put six goals onto the net, with Shu Pianhuo putting on an impressive show keeping the Anthoran Ducks to just a lone goal made early in the first period. With the game-opening goal having been in the second minute, the Ducks were able to tie the match, but not take a lead. With several key penalties taken by the Ice Bisons and the success of their penalty kill, the Ducks were unable to score for the remainder of the game.

If every game can go like this, we would have an excellent tournament...

Looking to our match with the Brains, we look to their last two games. A lone goal victory over Silvedonia brought some momentum into the match with the Elves, but as what happened to the Ice Bisons last tournament, the Valanora team kept them to a single goal and the game ended in a draw.

Look familiar?

Government's planned tax reform hampered by anthem controversy

John McAvoy, Political Columnist, Londinium Courier

If you listen to Prime Minister Michael Ramsey's public remarks, you'd be very aware that he'd like to talk about cutting taxes and changing the entire tax structure, thank you very much. But these pesky questions about the planned national anthem guidelines keep popping up, and it's not made any easier for the PM by the fact that his coalition partner, National Party leader and Interior Minister King Voss, seems only too eager to discuss it. While every other word out of Ramsey's mouth is "tax reform", "tax relief", or "ending the crushing tax burden", and Finance Minister and Libertarian Party leader William Dawson continues to beat the drum on how this is "the first opportunity in a generation to really make a difference on taxation and spending," Voss is touting the anthem changes to anyone who'll listen as "bringing our great nation back to its Christian roots" and "fighting back against radical secularists who are waging a stealth campaign against our nation's heritage".

It's tough to discuss your government's program when you're constantly fending off questions about the latest late-night pundit who's weighed in on the issue or the flash polls that seemingly every polling company or website is running on it. Of course, the press is only too happy to cover the anthem changes because they make for juicy quotes on both sides of the issue. I've seen multiple publications this week alone describe this as "a battle for the soul of Nova Anglicana." There is nothing more that publications (and by extension, their profit-happy owners) like than being able to juxtapose a Voss quote with one from Emily Waterford (Liberal Secularist Leader) about how these "reckless changes risk undermining Nova Anglicana's image as a haven of tolerance" and that it's only a matter of time until "this government starts laying waste to objective knowledge and turns our education system into a fundamentalist nightmare." Thrilling stuff.

In any case, if you've been living under a rock, the new government issued guidelines that the official national anthem, "Jesus Shall Reign", should be played at all official central government events and urged private actors to follow suit instead of playing "God Save the Queen", Nova Anglicana's royal anthem that has served as a national anthem at various points and in various places. It's quite honestly a little laughable that this is the "battle for the soul of our nation" when the new government is planning widespread changes to taxation, spending, and regulation, as well as health, pensions, and contemplating changes to immigration, the military, and security as well. The new conservative government wants to play the more traditional and sectarian national anthem, while urban liberals and leftists are outraged. In other news, the Pope is Catholic and bears do, in fact, eschew toilet paper and houses to poo in the woods, despite what certain foreign companies would have you believe. The new guidelines are only voluntary for provincial governments and private actors, so the areas that lean conservative will likely continue to play "Jesus Shall Reign" and the more left-leaning areas will stick with "God Save the Queen".

If you listen to Ramsey and Leader of the Opposition, former PM Hal Blackwood, you'll hear the real terms of the debate being set. Ramsey is touting the government's planned reduction of the "entirely too many tax brackets" we have, as well as rate cuts in personal and corporate income taxes that will "allow every hard-working Nova Anglican to keep more of their much-deserved paycheck" as well as "throw open the gates to a flood of foreign investment that will jump-start our sluggish economy". On the other side, Blackwood is laser-focused on a message that "tax reform is a fancy word for giveaways to the rich and corporate raiders" and that the proposed changes would "either explode the deficit or result in unprecedented spending cuts that will devastate our economy, hurting the very hard-working Nova Anglicans our PM claims this tax bill is for." Strong words from Blackwood, who has always been seen as a business-friendly moderate, but then again, it's the PJP's first time in opposition in a generation, so maybe a little scorched-earth rhetoric isn't the worst thing to rally the troops.

Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoy the robust press freedom afforded to the Nova Anglican press, and it's their prerogative to publish whatever news they wish, but I think their readers and the nation would be better off if we all focused on policy, which affects families and individuals across the nation, rather than spectacle, which is only daily bread for culture warriors.

"Two games in and the Calcuttas have already had a slip up, not exactly world beating credentials being held up by our dear squad, now is it?"

"Oh sure, call the draw a slip up if you must, yet the side showed quite well in the opening game and are going to be the favorites to advance out of the group regardless of an odd result here or there. I mean look at the first game at lot more closely, they completely and utterly dominated Anthor by a score of five to nil, a small nation that is not too far removed from winning a World Cup of Hockey themselves. Kohnhead also won their first game and look to be something of an upstart, looking to upset the predicated group favorites of the Calcuttas and Gyatso-Kai. If the team performs as expected in the rest of the group, there is nothing to fear."

"That is just it, is this hiccup against Kohnhead a one off that happens sometimes in the tournament or is it a sign that the gap between the best and the rest has started to narrow in the hockey arena? One merely need look at the Hockey Champions' League to see how the EHL that once completely dominated the scene there is now having troubles while little known leagues are starting to throw their weight around. If the Calcuttas really desire to add to the record six titles, slip ups against a team like Kohnhead are results that make that desire look more like a fools' errand than a real tangible achievement that is within their grasp. We need to have a squad of people willing to put in the extra work to achieve their dreams and not expect to rest on the laurels and that teams will roll over merely because they see the six stars above the crest. That sort of attitude is what sent the national football team on a two decade soul search that they have just now began to come out of and actually look like the team they are billed as."

"While I agree that there could be some concerns in dropping a point this early in the tournament, it could also just be a bit of nerves or exhaustion, given that this is something of an older squad than what the Calcuttas usually send to the tournament. The quick turnarounds might be a bit more trouble to overcome than normal, yet that is when they need to rely on a few of the younger, more spry members of the squad who can consistently put in twenty plus minute shifts in back to back nights, allowing the veterans to pace themselves and be more useful in the minutes that they are on the ice. Spread the load out and don't rely on those top two lines, even if they are extremely skilled, as that has been something of the squad's undoing in the past few years and tournaments. All in all though, it is only two games and the side has not lost, there is no real cause for worry just yet, so breathe and relax a little bit, actually enjoy the matches instead of constantly being worried that the team is not going to be as good as you would like. All you're going to do is drive yourself up the walls or give yourself an ulcer."

Running Up That Hill

PART 9 (2/3) (37 and 2/3) - Island Lights

'Of course the city did not burn! Like manuscripts, you cannot burn a city built out of them!' Gavin de Ramaut chuckled, raising both his hands to suggest that there was never a doubt on his mind about it. It was clear to him that people still held restraints in this era of excessive confidence and degeneracy, and that the Quebecois people always valued sacrifice above most virtues in life.

Of course, that's partly how they won so many wars, including the two in the past decade. But then, sacrifice had also meant knowing when to let go, like when to cut ties with its territories when asked to, and that's where the Quebecois, while not excellent, stood well above other former Empires of the early/late Modern period. 'While he always had that that temper of a fire, he knew to how to control it. He had to swallow the pains and the flames, make another bargain with the devil...and call it the night.’

'So what happened then? As you know, I come from Lecavalier generation, having born three years after the Plague.' Dr. Heo asked, trying not to emphasise his youth as an element of surprise. One of the things that he had learned fairly quickly when living abroad and also travelling beyond the Interrealm portal to the so-called RLverse was that the generation-by-generation differentiations and tensions were more than memes. Sure, they had existed back home, but it was mostly for the comedic sakes and minor uses in literature or musical theatre, where you'd use that to separate and distinguish those who had grown up in 1980s, 1990s or lord knows however they separated the eras in the new century. Or if you want a simpler term...millennials.

'He had a duel with the devil, where he turned himself into a living fire and face the ghouls of the night,' the jolly voice of Gavin de Ramaut rang with slight tremor, as he wiggled his left shoulder. Most in the pub didn't notice the twitch to see that it was abnormal; the noise had distracted everybody else to the topic discussed on their immediate vicinity. 'And so he did, swore off the devil, and then struck a peace deal set to last for ninety-nine years.'

'Well that's good...albeit with a trade-off.' Dr. Heo said, trying to remain calm but beyond bewilderment. He quietly looked around the setting again, and wondered for a brief second on where the late Dr. Pineau, as well as her three children were. 'I wonder if the young Arsene is here.' Arsene-Pierre Kim, their third (and only biological child between the two) son, happened to be an up-and-coming politician while a Masters student at Univ. de Montreal.

He’s a rascal, cigarette-smoking Leon (ooc: imagine a Quebecois equivalent of ‘chad’ combined with ‘karen’), whose infamy has slayed all those in his way as if the Dragon in St. George’s way. From a conference, he once remembered hearing from a colleague about the youngster, then at University of Kingston where they did not cross paths but happened to know a bunch of mutuals through Trinity College. I do not know how a creature like him roams so freely, coming from admirable parents like Agnes-Leanne and Sang-Doh...

Ignoring the assuming thread around his head, they looked at each other with complacent air, and then smiled once more. The story of the bargain with the devil, and the city’s deuxieme-fin-de-siecle lumination thoroughly erected himself up with excitement, and both Dong-Soo and Gavin couldn’t help but to feel the tingling upon their spines as they talked about the deceased.

The story of the dead clearly filled up the house now, and each of them had something to say about Dr. Kim. One student, an earlier undergraduate two years above Gavin, recalled seeing the explosions in the sky as the children waltzed in the mini-squares (do they call them parkettes?). Another, a peer of his all the way back to Kim Sang-Doh’s schoolboy days at Ginnidera Grammar, talked about how the smurfs frolicked above the deck of a cruise ship, committing acts of debauchery in the presence of the wild animals who too caught themselves engaging on it. This was followed by a mere postgraduate whose supervision was affected due to his passing, who talked of how the office was unsurprisingly filled with bright lights and felt more like a The 1975 concert at The O2 than a St. Croix office....

To say that Peter Dalton walked into the media room would be technically a correct description, but it wouldn't have captured the air of a sullen, caged animal that he gave off. Stalked, probably would be more accurate. The PR officer called on the first journalist.

"Coach, a difficult loss against Equestria today, how you do explain the lack of offence? What do you need to do to get some goals?"

Peter inhaled sharply and audibly. "Well." he stated. "Explain is a bit too far. We should be able to score a few goals against an unranked team. We should be able to put some passes together against Equestria. We have a talented lineup, allegedly. And really there's no reason that they should be unable to win a board battle, make the right decisions, I mean these guys play hockey for a living, right?..."

"Are the players playing to the game plan, or what's going wrong?"

"It's hard to score goals when only some players think they need to listen to the instructions, you know. This is a grinding them. These players need to accept it, play the right way, and stop trying all these fancy tricks. Put the puck on the net. You can't score if you don't put the puck on the net."

"So they had a lot of trouble with zone entries. Do you think this tendency to dump and chase is part of the problem?"

"I need to see more commitment from players when they wear the country's jersey. If they skate hard and show some heart they cannot be losing those pucks on the boards. Like I said, that's when you see a selfish play to try and take on the defence by yourself, you can't do that. This is a team and you play for the team."

"Which players are not playing for the team right now?"

"I'm not going to name names but they're on notice and I've made it very clear to the boys, we're going to win as a team or not, and they've got to get with the program. That's all the time we have. Thank you." He stood up and quickly left.

Once the Hockey Kelssek people had left, one of the veteran beat reporters said in deliberately, slightly too loud voice, "Different coach, same old shit. Grinders? Is he fricking serious?"

ENIHL 2019-20 Playoff Tree

The ENIHL (Elejamian National Ice Hockey League) doesn't have separate divisions or conferences, meaning all sixteen teams play in the same league. They play four games against each other, two per week, with the season starting in early September and finishing in mid-April. There's also a break around Christmas time where the ENIHL All-Star game is played, played between Team Domestic (consisting of players born in Elejamie) and international players (players who were born overseas), usually in an outdoor arena; the most recent ENIHL All-Star game was held at the Edgebaston Dome on Thursday 29th, 2016, where Team Domestic beat Team International 6-2.

At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams go on to the play-off stage, whereas the bottom two teams get relegated into the ENIHL2. The first placed team will take on the eighth place team, the runners up will take play the seventh place team, etc. in a best-of-five series. The winners of the 1/8 match will take on the winner of the 2/7 match in a best-of-seven series, whereas the winner of the 3/6 game will take on the winner of the 4/5 game in another best-of-seven series. And the winner of those games will play each other in yet another best-of-seven series to determine who will win the Royal Inaetar Cup (sort of like the Stanley Cup). The following weekend an awards ceremony is held, where not only are the player awards (i.e. Playoff MVP, goalie of the year, defenceman of the year, etc.) given out but also the ENIHL Champions Shield is given to the team that came top of the table going into the playoffs.

(N.B. In the ENIHL, much like the other leagues in Elejamie, home teams are listed first. Also, any game 5s in the QF or game sevens in the semi-final or final are played at a neutral venue outside of either sides' city, to avoid any favouritism or familiarity)

Quarter-final

Avon Stars 3-1 Barr Bears (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Avon Stars 4-2 Barr Bears (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Barr Bears 3-2 (OT) Avon Stars (Eletel Centre, Barr, RCST)
Barr Bears 0-2 Avon Stars (Eletel Centre, Barr, RCST)

The Avon Stars were a surprise ENIHL winner, as they won nine of their ten remaining games before being crowned the winner, having just eked out Davenport and Coventry, who fell to second and third respectively. Regardless, they were up against a fairly solid Bears team had also qualified for the playoffs with a game to go. After two convincing wins in games one or two, Avon were leading 2-0 by the third period of game three, only to let two goals in with a minute to spare before Frank Brosch scored the winning overtime goal for the Bears. Their luck would end there as they would be shut out in game four to make yet another QF exit.

Davenport Dockers 4-0 Mainsborough Icemen (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Davenport Dockers 3-0 Mainsborough Icemen (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Mainsborough Icemen 1-2 Davenport Dockers (AirElejamie Arena, Mainsborough, ATMN)

Mainsborough were a force to be reckoned with during the regular season as they racked up a massive home winning streak to start off the season, along with a couple of narrow or OT losses away. By the end of the year, they were near the top of the table and it seemed like they would be an unlikely winner of the league. However, a number of bad losses saw them lose their lead at the top of the table and even fall out of play-off contention before they managed to claw their way back to seventh place. The joy ended there as they'd get shut out my a much stronger Dockers team in their first two games before losing game three 2-1 (with Mike Keller scoring the only goal for his side, a snap shot with 12:44 left in the second period) on home ice.

Coventry Puffins 5-3 Rosetta Royals (HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN)
Coventry Puffins 3-2 Rosetta Royals (HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN)
Rosetta Royals 2-1 Coventry Puffins (Rosetta Royal House, Rosetta, ROIY)
Rosetta Royals 3-0 Coventry Puffins (Rosetta Royal House, Rosetta, ROIY)
Coventry Puffins 4-1 Rosetta Royals (Arcadius Arena, Murgon, BNTT)

The Royals were without star player Cerin Meloten for most of the season due to a back injury but they were still a force to be reckoned with as they easily remained in play-off contention and bounced around 4-8th place before finally finishing in 6th. Their series was full of home wins, most notably a hat-trick from Danilo Barajas in a 3-0 victory for the Royals in game four to send it to a fifth game, held at the 7,500-seater Arcadius Arena in Murgon. The Royals were unable to repeat those amazing home wins on neutral ice as they went down 4-1 (with Meloten scoring his only play-off goal of the tournament) and thus had to bow out.

Elejamie City Ice Elephants 1-3 Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas (tickets4u Arena, Elejamie City, BIST)
Elejamie City Ice Elephants 2-0 Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas (tickets4u Arena, Elejamie City, BIST)
Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas 3-2 (2OT) Elejamie City Ice Elephants (Ángeles Arena, Playa de Rocas, NUPA)

Although the Ice Elephants had a whale of a time with the double team of Tom Cody and Robert Richard providing the majority of their team's goals, they were unfortunately able to conquer the defensive might of Playa de Rocas. Even more so because they were the first team to not substitute or even pull their goalie all season, thanks to their solid defending as well as goalies Ricardo Bejerano and Pedro Cervantes (nephew of the legendary goalie Antonio "Toni" Cervantes). Indeed, Bejerano and Cervantes would infuriate the Elejamie City offence and, not only would Ángeles get the sweep but they would also get a game two shut-out.

Semi-final

Avon Stars 2-1 Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Avon Stars 2-1 (OT) Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas 4-2 Avon Stars (Ángeles Arena, Playa de Rocas, NUPA)
Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas 0-1 Avon Stars (HomeFiller Arena, Playa de Rocas, NUPA)
Avon Stars 3-1 Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)

Ángeles' defensive might carried on in the semi-finals. Although they were up against a much stronger team, they were still able to keep the scores close and play a good defensive game. Game two went to an overtime (which Avon managed to win courtesy of a wrist shot from James Han on the power play) and even won game three on home ice quite handily. Unfortunately, the remaining two games saw the offence fall apart, being shut out 1-0 in game four before a 3-1 loss in game five sealed their fates. Regardless, recent promotion from the junior team Kiko Carpio showed a good amount of effort, which is what got him onto the national team (albeit as a scratch) and could kickstart a long career.

Davenport Dockers 2-5 Coventry Puffins (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Davenport Dockers 5-1 Coventry Puffins (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Coventry Puffins 1-3 Davenport Dockers (HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN)
Coventry Puffins 4-5 Davenport Dockers (HomeFiller Arena, Coventry, AVEN)
Davenport Dockers 1-8 Coventry Puffins (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium)
Coventry Puffins 2-3 (3OT) Davenport Dockers (HomeFiller Arena, Coventry AVEN)

Two of the biggest teams in the league with one of the biggest rivalries went head-to-head and, as expected, produced some brilliant games. The Puffins managed to thrash the Dockers 5-2 in their opening game, with two of them being scored when they were on the bad end of a 5-on-3. Then the Dockers went on a massive winning streak with a home win in game two and winning games three and four in Coventry to take a 3-1 series lead. However, they unceremoniously bottled it in game five when they went down 8-1, with Cristian Serrano being pulled for the remaining two minutes (although two more goals were scored afterwards). Fortunately, his side found their mojo and prevented a 3-1 series choke by winning game six away to make it to their finals since 2016.

Final

Avon Stars 3-2 Davenport Dockers (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Avon Stars 1-3 Davenport Dockers (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)
Davenport Dockers 5-4 (OT) Avon Stars (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Davenport Dockers 1-3 Avon Stars (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Davenport Dockers 3-1 Avon Stars (Declan Madgwick Memorial Stadium, Davenport, WYKN)
Avon Stars 2-4 Davenport Dockers (Riverside Arena, Avon, AVEN)

One of the other big ENIHL rivalries, alongside the aforementioned Davenport-Coventry series. Indeed, in a number of sports, Avon, Coventry and Davenport form what is nicknamed the "Triang-rival", where fans of one team will consider the other two their rivals. Soccer, both codes of rugby, basketball and, yes, ice hockey, the list goes on. And, indeed it usually leads to some exciting matches. Such as this series, when the first four games went back and fourth courtesy of some great goals, including a goal on the breakaway from Lucas Madgwick when he managed to just tip the puck into the back of the Stars' net after a deke gone wrong. However, as hard as both teams fought, it would be Davenport who'd emerge the victor as they'd win games five and six to not only win their first Royal Inaeter Cup since 2012 but also avenge their infamous reverse sweep at the hands of Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas back in 2016.

Winners:
Davenport Dockers (6th play-off trophy)

Shebnatsiya Ice Palace Preparing For MD3 Versus Frozen Forrest

So Far, So Good
In the opening three match days of the World Cup of Hockey, it has been plain sailing for the Kingfishers so far, with the team sitting top of the group with two wins and a draw to their name. With a win against Taeshan on the opening day of the tournament, coupled with a drab 0-0 draw versus former champions Elejamie, it gave the team the footing they needed to settle themselves before the long and gruelling schedule. With arguably the two nations with the most pedigree already out of the way early on, Dini could now focus on the rest of the group and rack up the goals and points in the process. Last night that task began successfully under the lights in Shebchetsik with the crowd seeing eight goals in the combined hour of hockey. Frozen Forrest gave a good account of themselves and fought back from 5-1 down in the third period to rescue a respectable 5-3 loss to the World #10. It meant that Mercedini leapfrogged the night's opponents into first place, with three games played. Now the only side undefeated in Group A, the Kingfishers will need to navigate both Ranoria and Lorenthia before the end of the first half. Looking briefly through the rest of the groups, it looks as if shocks will be hard to come by, as many of the pre-tournament favourites hold either perfect or unbeaten runs thus far in their respective groups. If this holds true by the end of the group stage, then we are all set for a very interesting knockout round, with many of said favourites playing each other much earlier than expected.

Mercedini vs. Lorenthia @Shebnatsiya Ice Palace - Shebchetsik, Mercedini

With the Mercedinian Premier League expected to begin shortly after the conclusion of the World Cup of Hockey, it will be the final chance for the new expanded league to grab a hold of the hottest properties in the multiverse. With players from Elejamie, Neu Engollon and Kebec all set to return to their respective clubs next season, there is a chance to expand the interests of the league to more far-flung shores. Players from Siovanija & Teusland and Banija are highly rumoured to be joining the league next season, although no confirmation from their respective clubs have been given just yet.

In the hockey-playing world, Mercedini have always been on the cusp of greatness. Three-time semifinalist and one-time runner-up in the senior tournament, runaway champions in the World Junior Hockey Champions many years ago, and perennial group stage qualifier in the Hockey Champion's League, it is clear that the nation needs a little investment to get it over the line. Now that funding has been returned to the team, it is hoped that Mercedini can return to it's peak when it was top three in the world.

The group stage has begun comfortably which is a good sign for the fledgling team, although we thought that last time, and look what happened. Wins or draws against Lorenthia tomorrow and Ranoria the day after will be a welcome relief to the fans in the Ice Palace, as that will stand them in good stead to not only qualify from the group stage, but to give them a good seeding in the knockout rounds too. The consensus has been good overall performances at home with a friendly crowd behind them, but far from the same when it comes to away performances thus far. We have only seen one, against Elejamie, but the attacking prowess that Dini is known for was seldom seen throughout the match. The Kingfishers did very well in defence, limiting their hosts to two very speculative shots on target. However, that security at the back didn't translate in attack as the numerous attacking lines simply couldn't finish the chances that were created. All of that resulted in rather frustrating 0-0 draw for both sides.

In the end, there is still plenty of hockey to be played between now and the end of the group stage, everyone has points on the board now, so it's certainly within the realm of possibility that it could come down to the final day once again. We will be cluing you in to all of the action over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned to Mercedini Sports Daily so you don't miss a shot!

Puck Watch: Topsy-Turvy TJUN-ia Trips

Postby TJUN-ia » Sat Nov 14, 2020 8:33 am

After a nice and easy win at home over Tjorl, Ølson Rasmussen's Ice Jaguars sat at 1-1 with many questions surrounding them. How good was this team? Can they run the table enough to get into the playoffs? All these and more may have been answered against 15th ranked Recuecn, a pretty good team at 2-0 but another team that didn't really know where they were in terms of qualification hopes.

Just like in the game against Tjorl, this game in Reçueçn had 1 goal in each period. Unfortunately for man, they were not all TJUN-ian. The first period saw the opposition sneak the puck into the net out of nowhere, which was enraging to Jakob Vaduz in the net. The 2nd period saw some good as Julian Visipils opened TJUN-ia's account with his 4th in 3 games, but the Ice-Jags couldn't capitalise on more goal-scoring opportunities. The 3rd period would be the worst, as Reçueçn scored the winner on a powerplay (due to Vasil Cherysezsky getting 2 mins due to obvious frustrations about how this game was going) and that was that. The home team improved to 3-0 while the Ice-Jags are languishing at 1-2.

How can we stop this? What needs to be done in order to improve our fortunes? No one knows for sure, but questions are being placed on Rasmussen's shoulders that not TJUN-ia should face: am I unfit for purpose? We shall see as TJUN-ia continues its 2-game road stretch in 51st ranked and 0-3 Sylestone. GO JAGS!

Three Goals In Third Sees Fillies Over Banija,
By Chelsea Dufresne, Concord Heights Times

The last time Cassadaigua and Banija played a game that meant something, it was the championship game of World Bowl 40, a game that was won by the Fillies, 6-3. Now, in their meeting in the World Cup of Hockey, the two teams combined for the same amount of goals as there were points in that World Bowl showdown. While defense reigned on the gridiron, the two teams were quick to show their offense on the ice. For Cassadaigua, this was not really good news.

Banija jumped out to a two goal lead in the first period, but a goal by Danielle Turnbull at 18:11 of the period made the eventual result of the period not be too bad. Banija outshot our team by a 12-7 margin, and earned their advantage. You could say the second period was much like the first, with the Lions (that is not their official name, as they have not provided a roster, but it is a pretty common thing for them to be referred to as, so I will just roll with it) getting the first two tallies of the period. Also like the first, Cassadaigua got a late goal in the period, this at 17:24 by Brittany Gomes to cut the lead to 4-2 at second intermission. Banija outshot the Fillies 16-7 in the period, making it four touchdowns to two (28-14) if you like gridiron comparisons.

However, the third period was much different. Somehow, that Fillies team that put up nine against Rwekazaland was back on the ice. Captain Abby Dayton said there were no magic words in the locker room during the second intermission. “We all just kind of looked at each other and knew that our play in that period was unacceptable. We had not done much of anything and let the Banijans control the pace of play. You can’t do that, and we knew we needed to be better.” Defensemen Jennifer Everson agreed, “We were being outplayed in the neutral zone. Our breakout passes were not as effective as they needed to be, and that’s where it all starts. We just all acknowledged that we needed to settle down, focus on the little things a little more, and maybe we could make a game of this yet.”

Indeed they did. From the opening faceoff of the third period, the Fillies were skating much better, and their passing became much crisper. At 5:09 of the third, Abby Dayton sniped one home past the blocker of the unknown goalie, with Cassidy Conti not to be overlooked for her fine pass to get it there. The team did not stop coming at the Lions, and at 9:49, the game was all tied up, as Holly Linnehan went five hole on a nice pass from Jacob Thomas. At the time of the equalizer, shots were 10-1 in favor of the Fillies, and it didn’t stop there. The go ahead goal probably could have come a little sooner then it did if not for some good goaltending, but at 16:02 of the third, Samantha Dryden jumped on a rebound to put Cassadaigua up 5-4. They would never look back, and continued to win the puck possession game until the end of the game. After a dominant period, Cassadaigua won the match 5-4, and outshot Banija 19-3 in the period, giving them a 33-31 edge for the game. The team will look to build on this going forward, but they do lead the group at 2-1-0, with plenty of hockey still to be played.

Venue
Image
Hangaza Tech Ice Arena in Aissa, Hangaza. Capacity of 9,838.

For this tournament, the national ice hockey team will play in eastern Banija, in Aissa, Hangaza, which is the regional capitol of the Hangaza region in Banija's northeast. Aissa is the second largest city in the region, and is the regional capitol, situated right on the Geisenfred border. Ice hockey is popular in a few of Banija's big cities, although it is most popular among Banijan migrant communities across the multiverse. It is seen as a unifying sport for many migrant communities. It's popularity in Banija is hurt mostly by the fact that Banija does not have winter- ergo it will never be a major sporting within Banija.

The team has been strong for a few cycles anyways, and they believe that they are capable of filling the Hangaza Tech Ice Arena. The lack of popularity ihn country makes it likely that away fans can take over Banija's home games in this sport, although the BHF is trying to combat this by playing in Aissa, way out east, rather than in one of Banija's larger, more accessible cities. Many do not expect this to help, as Banija's home games are likely to be overtaken by away fans once again.

Schedule
Matchday 1: Banija v. Northwest Kalactin
Matchday 2: Banija @ Fluvannia
Matchday 3: Banija v. Cassadaigua
Matchday 4: Banija v. Megistos

Bids incoming

Bids to pick up the empty husks of such famed clubs as the Rangers, Explorers, and the probable merger between the Mariners and an unlucky team have poured into the offices of the administrators. A considerable amount of national team players do not know if they'll be getting increased wages over professionalisation, and if so, whether their team still exists when training camps reconvene after summer. Defenceman on the third line, Assanor Aiaros, is among them. At age 21, he'll be reaping the full benefits should the league go pro: he still has a full career's worth of earnings ahead of him. The downside is that he's with the Southwest Aevanna Rangers, and as is often the case, he's with his childhood team. Most of the players are with the team that raised them, often since they were ten years old. "Seeing these media messages about the team you've always held in such high regard is a terrible thing. Of course, the entire locker room is hyped about the pay thing... but I can't help to feel bitter that if the Rangers have to disappear to make it happen... I don't know if I still want it."

Asked if he knows where to go should everything go through, he answered: "I haven't given it much thought. We're just trying to win a World Cup here, if some people forgot that. I expect to return to the Rangers after the Cup," and trailing off about beating Chromatika and Nova Anglicana but not Vilita and Turori. This was supposed to be the Green and Blue year, after all. The team is poised to make a deep run before the rumours happened. They were well underway in Taeshan when rumours turned to 'very likely happening'.

In a similar boat is Aidaloph Autibel, winger for the Aevanna Bay Mariners, and part of talks between his club and the Ko-orenite league on one side, and the Donnaconan league on the other. "Having seen a move fall through has definitely affected me. I don't want another season of uncertainty. Honestly, just let me play the semi-pro game over a full season of shenanigans. The Donnaconans were unclear on when I would be paid as well. In the end, I'm happy I didn't go. I can imagine for younger guys it can feel like you're missing out on something and you want to make your pro contract happen. I'm 29 right now, I probably have a few years of pro level hockey in me, but please just think it through for another year if you need, and then let us players make the jump."

Most of the national teamers are on non-Aevannan teams, fully sure of a season of ice hockey at their financially secure clubs. The West Coast Blizzards on the team already know what it's like to travel week in, week out, for instance.

In the meantime, official bids from the cities of Lamau and Dartha came in. They are happy to adopt any collapsing Aevannan team. Sterrenwolde is reportedly also working on a bid, which would immediately make it the most populous home base for an ice hockey team - and even Sterrenwolde is smaller than Schemerdrecht, the market that got away. Schemerdrecht officials are tied by the Banijan league and cannot bid, even if the double hockey team could make the city into a hockey stronghold overnight. Several valleys in Intermare are also working on bids, unclear whether one single town can become a team's home. Several nearby towns are combining their strengths to convince the league office. Laringen and Rozenvoorde could also be involved, but they are (along with most Intermare teams) afraid of what it could do to their local field hockey traditions. Chances of a second team moving to the west coast are almost none. The city of Katashi (southeast) is possibly trying to get a team as well - they have the money, probably not the fanbase, but that'll develop. Professionalisation can have some odd side effects - you're not a regional sport anymore, you'll get the national spotlight every now and again, and that comes with the tough decisions, the interference from other sports and cities, and most important of all: it won't be easy to go back to what it was. Professionalisation will see you lose a few storied clubs, and the affected fans won't immediately accept their old love back if they know they were dropped by the league for a few quick Koronas.

A huge draw against Siovanija and Teusland

Ville Jacques-Cartier, DC - The World Cup of Hockey 41 provided us some unexpected results so far. This time, Terre Septentrionale drew 2-2 with the #1 team, Siovanija and Teusland and it feels like a win for us! Many fans from Siovanija and Teusland travelled to Terre septentrionale for the game and the Forum de Longueuil was sold out. Terre Septentrionale scored the only goal of the 1st period when Emilia Zyskowska carried the puck with Virginie Woodbury. Zyskowska passed it to Woodbury who shot on the post, she takes her own rebound and shoot it on the net. Joanna Katarzynska-Goj also got an assist on the play.

The Goldhorns tied the game early in the 2nd period when Razvigor Tsvetanov was standing in front of Nico Eggenberger and deflected Evgeni Tomic's shot from the blueline into the net. Timo Schlager also got an assist on the play. 6 minutes later, Evgeni Tomic was penalised for roughing and Terre Septentrionale had a power play. Jenny Hockey had the puck in Goldhorn territory and she passed to Krzysztof Klepczynski at the blue line. Krzysztof Klepczynski faked to shoot and passed the puck to Kévin Beaugerard who shoots and the puck is in, Terre Septentrionale is leading 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Siovanija and Teusland tied the game in the 3rd period and the final score was 2-2.

Group D

With this draw and New Waldensia's surprising win against Québec, we have a new leader in group D. New Waldensia are first with 6 points in 3 games. Who predicted it before the start of the World Cup? No one. Props to New Waldensia, they improved since the last World Cup. The Goldhorns are second with a win and two draws in 3 games for 4 points. Terre Septentrionale and Austrakia follows with a win, a loss and a draw for 3 points. Surprisingly, Québec is 5th. On matchday 4, the Reprezentacja Nordycki, will travel to Austrakia while Siovanija and Teusland will receive the loseless New Waldensia and Québec will travel to United Hemand Insia.

HUElavia Maintain's Good Form in Opening Home Victory!

HUElavia 2–1 Graintfjall
(Arena Santos, San Rafael)

HUElavia came into Matchday 3 looking to build off from their two victories against the unranked teams of Bleronia and NPC West Florida. The team was hitting its stride, much like it did 4 years ago, and was now holding an unlikely lead in Group B. Now, they had the first test of their group, against Graintfjall who had 3 Points and was looking to overthrow Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos. This was the first home game of the Group Stage, being played at Arena Santos (19,250) in San Rafael, the first time the National Hockey Team plays in the capital of the Astellian Culture of the country. The arena was sold out and the teams were playing their best players for the match. The puck was dropped and the match was underway.

HUElavia would prove to be very strong in the match, as HUElavia's two goals would fall just 90 seconds away from each other in the 1st Period. The first goal was scored with 58 seconds into the match, as Chevchenko dispossessed Þórlaugur and passed it to Ovetchkin, who sped past Florian and shot it past Tom into the goal to make it 1-0, with the crowd going crazy with cheers and jumps to make the arena rumble. 90 seconds later, the 2nd line was on the rink, where Roux got the puck, passed it to Rossi, who blasted it past Tom to make it 2-0 with ease. The HUElavians present were jumping and cheering once again, making the stadium rumble while Kernkraft 400 roared across the stadium, the crowd singing to the tune of the song. In the 2nd Period, Graintfjall went more on the attack, getting a powerplay of 3 minutes, where within 30 seconds, a pass from Fabian to Þorkell, allowed Þorkell to tip the puck past Vasilevskiy to make it 2-1, silencing the HUElavians while the few fans of Graintfjall were celebrating the goal that put them back in the game. HUElavia then played defensively, all the way into the 3rd Period, where attacks and attacks were made, but Vasilevskiy held out, as well as the defense, as the game ended 2-1, and HUElavians had a sigh of relief, while celebrating the continued win streak.

With the victory, HUElavia still sit in 1st Place of Group B with 6 Points (3-0-0). The next game will be at Poafmersia, which they come off a close 5-4 victory against Bleronia. They sit in 4th place with 3 Points (1-1-1). Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos will start with Mancebo in goal, in order to give Vasilevskiy rest before Matchday 5 against the big rival of the group, Neu Engolion, which will be very likely the fight for 1st Place in Group B. Regardless, the team will focus for now against Poafmersia, looking to extend the win streak and come with great momentum into Matchday 5. The team will train hard for the match, looking to score more goals, while the fans will travel hoping and praying for a favorable result for the team. Here's to taking on Poafmersia and keeping the good times going.

Running Up That Hill

PART 10 (1/2) (38 and 1/2) - Just Like A River Does

Now we’re back to the present time, as Asher Lundrigan found himself in an interesting place. He was somewhat stung and stupefied over what he had just heard from Eileen, and that had made him think a bit more about how the past and present met with one another, especially in the middle of an underground venue in Lac-Drouin.

Now, not only was he looking for a possible answer to the question, but possibly a better set of mental excuses to invest himself into the remainder of the Sicoutian leg of the schedule. In that, there had been no other way Asher could have described in wanting to get out- especially given his particular hesitation to be forward to be forward to Eileen about certain things- and staying more than necessary for a number of days or even hours in Sicoutimont was going to affect him either way.

Blimey, blimey, blimey, blimey, blimey, calisse…That’s what Asher thought to himself, as he slowly washed his hands on the counter of a washroom. Having excused himself in middle of a 10-minute interlude, Asher decided to take advantage of the much-needed break. He straightened his side hair twice, blinked thrice and then rubbed his hand with soap four times.

Now, looking at his face once more, he was slowly, pensievly staring at his own face on the mirror, and right next to him stood an older, bearded man in a black, well-smoothened suit. Another etranger, probably of different reasons he came, thought Asher. His compatriot turned his head at him once, and then returned his gaze to the mirror while washing his hands. The turquoise Neon lights of the washroom barely functioned, dimming the older man’s face like a New Romantic’s Poker hands, a grease-less face with grey, fading eyes. On his collars a yellow Orchid badge is placed, indicating his membership in the far-left Parti Justice du Quebec (PJQ).

‘Sad to see how the stories can sometimes end, isn’t it?’ said Arsene, ‘But then miracles do exist when you least look for it, after years of just waiting around and planning things like a diligent man would.’

‘Always.’ Asher raised his eyebrows, as the comment had the younger man realise the acquaintance’s identity. Being part of the Bron-Yr-Aur Barony, a fairly well-known name in its own right, and also coming from the PJQ ranks, he somewhat remembered the politician, who was just breaking into federal politics as a 26-year old postgraduate from St. Croix. But his father, for most part, kept his political life out of his personal chapters. Even during campaign seasons, he had rarely met politicians who, given his background in the Foreign Affairs ministry, called Lundrigan Sr an amicable nickname ‘Monsieur le Cosmopolitain’. And when he grew older, naturally he stayed out of political life, preferring to spend time wandering around on collegial grounds of St. Alban’s College, St. Croix. He knew that at some point, he would have to meet politicians. But to meet the young, charismatic leader of 82-seat PJQ in a washroom, of an illegally-operated live venue, that’s still a pretty rare occurrence if anything. ‘And I know I’ve always been lucky. Like a golden leprechaun of the enemy school, if you know what I’m talking about.’

‘Of course I do,’ remarked Arsene-Pierre Kim. ‘Every Quebecois child is taught to be grateful, but always to be prepared for the best in the worst. I think that many years later, and also from you two, that it indeed makes sense.’

Did he really overhear that conversation? If so, there’s a serious problem with watching my tongue, because those people want my head, not hers…. Asher turned his head around, giving him a particularly odd look. ‘I am delighted that I was able to catch your attention, however critical she or I may have been over gossip. If anything, that’s what the journalists and the musicians are best at…’

‘Oh really?’ said Arsene-Pierre, not really amused by the response he got from a prospective recruit. ‘Well, it depends on who you ask, but I don’t think you are really one at heart. You know, the so-called journalists would sell their souls at a cheaper rate, and call frivolous words of social justice without understanding the world, and then promptly find themselves embarrassed when their lack of depth is exposed...’’

Of course he’d say that. Asher knew well of the party leader’s hostility towards Quebecois and foreign journalists who, believe it or not, had a tendency to misquote his metaphoric quotes and strand-filled references.

Trying to deflect the subject, Asher took out his handkerchief and slowly doused water over it. ‘Aren’t you tired, especially with the possibility of a snap election?’ asked Asher, casually bringing up the topic of the Federal election.

‘Not a bit.’ Arsene-Pierre shrugged, firstly without an emotion, and then secondly with some certainty. ‘My late father, lord bless his soul, once told me that he was always scared of losing those he loved. But he knew the best not to be over the top about it, preferring to save the city by making the gamble and fighting the duel that many, in the postwar age, had refused to do so. He chose to be the cool guy, so you could say, without really being forward.

‘Of course, he knew everything had its trade-offs, but he had well understood the cost and lived with it. Of course, that’s what maybe enabled us to change the world, for the better and the worse. You know what happened with the rest right?’

‘I believe I do, yes.’ was all Asher said. Of course, Asher did. The Plague of 1988, and the Quebecois response to the disaster that killed hundreds of thousands, was still etched strongly in the minds of Quebecois mentality. The catastrophic figures of the plague, innumerable both in material and humanly cost, had challenged then-highly popular Ivor Cernak Lanka Government to an emergency election, where the incumbent centre-right Parti Quebecois had met an (un-)surprising defeat against his longtime rival, Marian Lecavalier, and the PJQ.

The surprising breakthrough, where both the centre-left NPD and PQ were now facing a mainstream challenge, had caused a particular shift in the political climate of the country that was bound for radicalisation and subsequent purges (twice, 1997 and 2036) in one extent, but regenerative possibilities of the country.

‘That’s what he probably did not see it coming, though the ironic, Bulgakovian element of the Devil and his crew was something that he dearly embraced for rest of his life. Gradually, over next few decades, he had developed weaker chest and habit of self-freezing. Doctors used to tell mummy and older siblings (author's note: Arsene-Pierre has two half-siblings, Laurence between Sang-Doh and a fling somewhere provincial, and Tara between his mother and her ex-husband) that smoking is bad for him, but he did not listen.'

Kelssek 5, Ontorisa 7 is the final, this is Lisa Mann with Kyle McConnell on SportsInfo 630 and welcome to the post-game show. We’re taking your calls in just a few minutes as Kelssek finds some offensive spark but then gives up seven goals, Bradley Donovan getting pulled after the second period. Maybe we should start with that, Kyle, do you think Kelssek should send him back out for the next match?

[Kyle] I think he’s not really done badly there. But he’d given up the last three goals, none of them really bad mistakes, but it’s one of those where a coach thinks a different goalie can put the opponents off, force them to adjust. Sometimes when you’re down 6-2 you roll the dice a little. Donovan will be back next match.

[Lisa] You think Peter Dalton’s going to be all “I told you so” when people have been crying out for him to loosen the reins a little, let the players attack more?

[Kyle] If that’s the lesson he takes from this, he shouldn’t be allowed to coach professionally again. In the end, this was a really even match, and yes, you don’t want to give up six goals – I don’t really count empty netters – but that’s a more fixable problem than an issue where the first two matches they just couldn’t buy a goal to save themselves.

[Lisa] You really hope they’ve got that monkey off their backs now. Sometimes you just need a bit of confidence and you know, getting Riley Hesselboe on form again, Dylan Saranack, Cameron Franklin, all guys who’ve maybe been squeezing the stick a bit too tight last few days.

[Kyle] Quite right.

[Lisa] Alright let’s take our first caller as we wait for Peter Dalton to enter the press room. Leslie is on line one. Leslie, did Kelssek need more offence or defence today?

[Leslie] My god, that was tough to have the comeback fall short like that. I thought they had this in the bag. I think we could’ve outscored them but we just left it too late. Just not much of any threat in the first two periods. You know what, I don’t blame Donovan because that was just not good enough. It’s not about playing defensively, it’s about not falling asleep and letting your guy cruise into the slot scott free. And sometimes you see those kinds of things happening and the coach goes, okay, no more pinches, clog up the slot, and that makes the breakout harder, makes it harder to go the other way.

[Lisa] Nice stuff Leslie. Marko on line four, did Kelssek need more offence or defence, Marko?

[Marko] We needed less Kirk Betand. Twice he got burned on a footrace, two goals against, and a couple other times when the goalie bailed him out. Kirk’s got to play smarter but really, also, the coach has gotta look at that and realize you can’t match him against those same players. I didn’t catch if it was the same guy both times, but if you’re gonna be a pylon out there, then you can stay really still when the coach benches you. But Dalton’s afraid to bench a big name player so there you go.

Krauts Winless Through Four Games,
Time to Sound the Alarm?

Image
A promotional piece for the Ranorian Krauts, put out one week before the start of the cup

Two wins, two draws, no excitement. That's what we've gotten so far out of this World Cup of Hockey. Our peak came in our first outing, where Augustin Khan knocked in a two of the Krauts' three goals to secure a draw, but...that's been about it in terms of noise, as the team has only scored two goals since that opening matchup. Where are we going wrong? As usual, this team is top heavy, being carried by Richart Matthens and Augustin Khan, and they just haven't been able to do that much scoring to this point. The rest of the roster is sub par starters and above average backups for the most part, certainly not something you want to see in an international competition.

But really now, we just need to win some games. If only to protect the sanctity of the nation's hockey clubs, who are quickly being outpaced on the international stage by a baseball team that by all rights shouldn't be able to hang in with international competition.

Worse yet, the team is expected to lose the aging Matthens after this season. At 34 years old, he knows as well as all of the fans watching that he just doesn't have much left in the tank. If the Krauts are going to make a splash on the ice this season, with him, they'll have to do it quickly. Otherwise, we may have wasted the chance to have one of the best Ranorian hockey players of the era lead us to success on the international stage.
Fan of football, the Murican kind. But soccer is cool too! Just not really my thing. C(:^D/-<
I go by Ran. Unless, of course, you want to type out Ranoria. That's your decision.

HUElavia takes an Upset Defeat in Humiliating Fashion!

Poafmersia 4–1 HUElavia

HUElavia came into Matchday 4 looking to extend the win streak and against a Poafmersia that Los Amarillos/Os Amarelos felt confident they could achieve. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The match was essentially a bloodbath. Two goals in the 1st Period by REDACTED and REDACTED, followed by another set of goals by REDACTED and REDACTED early in the 2nd Period had the game 4-0 by halfway in the 2nd Period. The team was absolutely stunned, as they needed to get shots in, just so they can close the gap of goal difference. This would come late in the 2nd period, as a pass back by Kariya reached Ben Youseff, who took a shot from the blue line out of frustration to put it past REDACTED to make it 4-1. HUElavia would continue to push throughout the match, but it was no avail as the team fell 4-1.

With the defeat, HUElavia slip to 2nd Place with their record of 3-0-1 and 6 Points. The team that has overtaken them was Neu Engolion, who also have 6 Points (2-2-0) after drawing with Bleronia 1-1 in Matchday 4. Thus, on Matchday 5, these two teams will meet, and the match is set to be played at Banco da HUElavia Arena (21,000) in HUEsilia. The main starters will be on ice for what can be a very vital match in the run of Group B. With the dropped points from the #2 team in the Multiverse, HUElavia looks to learn from it and give it their best to try to defeat or draw with New Engolion. Fans will be flocking to HUEsilia in hopes that the team can take a historic victory in their first match in the city of HUEsilia.

Puck Watch: Jags Win Tough One In Land Of Sentience!

Postby TJUN-ia » Sun Nov 15, 2020 9:47 am

After a disappointing loss to 15th ranked Recuecn, the road tour continued with Ølson Rasmussen already feeling the gun of IHT pointed at his temple. At 1-2, the Ice-Jags have stumbled in the early part of this campaign but hope was yet lost of an epic comeback that would get them to the playoffs. May hoped this journey would be in Sylestone, the land of bringing sentience to the most peculiar of things. The theme this time was animals, not like the U2 kind but actual animals with human qualities, NO matter the final score, this was going to be a very interesting game indeed.

The first period was tight, but also fun at the same time. A literal Wombat managed to score the host's first, but Teemu Pukaninen would get the Jags back level just before the end by shooting past the literal Elephant in the net. Yes, there was an elephant playing goalie tonight, but that wasn't even the strangest "player" in this Sylestone team. That would be their "defenceman", a literal Swarm of Bees. Yes, Bees. Those bees would be pests for most of the game and in the 2nd period, they got the puck back and passed it quickly to a Cheetah who wouldn't miss the shot past Jakob Vaduz. The Jags conceded to a fucking Cheetah. That's all you need to know about this game.

But the Jags wouldn't give up and they tied the game again late in the 2nd, Julian Visipils getting his 5th goal in 4 games to leave the 3rd period as the deciding one. That period was also kicked off by Sylestone, the Springbok coming up clutch but at this point, the Jaguars had had enough. They allowed their players more freedom on the ice and that would help turn the fixture around. Visiplis got his 6th in 4 to tie that game again and come the final minutes, the Jags would take the lead through 4th-liner Thorgan Annursson. It would be a lead that TJUN-ia would hold to the end as the Jags went to 2-2 in a great fixture.

The final game before the halfway break is, what could be, the most important one thus far. The Rink in The Gardens is hosting Savojarna, the 6th best team in all of hockey, who just dropped a point to fellow undefeated team Reçueçn in a 0-0 draw, the first draw of the entire group thus far. Taking a point away from these guys may not be the worst thing for these Jags, but the prospect of a statement win is too much to ignore. It will be tough, but the Ice Jaguars must host the Savojars with the 2 points in mind. GO JAGS!
