NS Nations and Secret Police: Do you have one?

I just finished updating my nation's factbook just now, and a question regarding other nation's internal security and secret police popped into my head. I wonder how many of you guys also have an internal security organization in your NS nations.

I have one that works in a way similar to public security, but more secretive. They also conduct international espionage and assassinations of HVTs and foreign politicians.

Sharifistan has the Royal Gendarmerie Intelligence Division operating as a secret police but they mostly oppose drug trafficking, human trafficking and terrorism rather than silencing political opponents though they are involved in arrests for sedition, hate speech and blasphemy.

The National Intelligence Directorate (Maheâlani: Tarí Matakité), literally meaning "Police With Great Vision" is the closest entity to secret police in Pulsroth.

During the regimes of Llewellyn Mead and Patrick Dansey-Beck in the 1980's, 90's & 2000's, their primary purpose was to track the small number of political dissidents who were considered a significant risk to the ruling Pulsrothi Radical Party.

Ever since Meri McMillan reformed the country's constitution in 2013, the NID has primarily acted as a counter terrorism force, although some citizens suspect that their original purpose still exists to some degree.

We used to have some secret police agencies at some points, it was finally abolished in 1935 when social democrats took power again and undid the conservative authoritarian policies of the previous government.

The federal police was formally disbanded in 2019, though military guards take on security duties of some important buildings, but we are currently undergoing reform of policing, with gradual abolition being realized under socialism, and the criminal justice system as a whole.

We do have a secret police. Their job is to protect Kyundao and its political system from domestic and foreign civilian threats, mainly the former. They arrest, torture and kill with impunity as the government in general trusts their judgement.

It is subject of debate should be HMSS treated as such. While they never interfere with the Dunfermian citizens, HMSS was allegedly invovled in dozens of episodes of abduction and murder of foreigners, that were perceived as threat to Dunfermian national security.

The Inquisition is the closest entity to a "secret police" that exists in Orderiam.

The Inquisition is responsible for investigating and prosecuting those who practice the Three Great Lies (heresy, apostasy and blasphemy). The Inquisition maintains it own police, courts and prisons, which are independent and distinct from the Matriarchy's civil and criminal law. In extreme cases, Inquisitors have the authority to perform summary executions, though this is rare.

The Organization for the Security and Safety of Gandoor (OSSG) was established by Prime Minister Alexei Petrikov in 1942. On paper, the OSSG was to simply monitor threats to Gandoor, due to WWII (which Gandoor remained neutral in, but as a nation located close to Japan, a state of emergency had been declared in 1940), but in reality, they made sure no one spoke out against his regime and anyone who did would either be sentenced to a labour camp or be sentenced in a mock trial and executed.

Alexei Petrikov died in 1951 and the OSSG would be disbanded that same year. Since then, Gandoor has not maintained any form of secret police.

Olwe has never had a secret police as traditionally interpreted, but the regular police do have fairly broad, sweeping authority. However, the government also has broad, sweeping authority to summarily execute police who do overstep their bounds. Racial discrimination, for example, is not tolerated.

The Kancian Federal Security Agency, also known as the KFSA, currently acts as the main secret police body of the government. They are in charge of suppressing any political opposition, however, they have done far more than just repression. It is believed they are responsible for massacres and ethnic cleansing that have caused death on the scale of tens of thousands. They have also tortured some half a million people since their formation, though many suspect the numbers are far higher.

[New Goldman]

The New Goldman Investigations Bureau is the official secret police force of the Goldmanian Government, and is attached to several agencies and even individuals of importance. They are tasked of monitoring the public and their everyday lives posing as civilians, and also putting down any political or national unrest by means of terror tactics and normal policing maneuvers like arresting suspected violators and treason committers. The NGIB is known to have an independent role, with only purportedly the Emperor himself taking personal charge of all its operations and functions. While attached to several agencies, it doesn't have an official department commanding it.

Of course we do. In fact, the Secret Police is our ONLY police. This force is known simply as Domestic Intelligence, or more commonly, DomIntel. Its mandate is to root out rebels, dissidents, subversive elements, and any other kind of traitors. Once they locate these scum, they have the authority - and mandate - to put a death warrant out on them. The local Decepticon Military outpost then takes the honor of exterminating the traitor(s). The Military is needed because even traitorous Decepticons fight back, and since we're well-armed and armored war robots, we can't be sending some pencil-pushers to do the job.

Notably, DomIntel doesn't kidnap or disappear people. It may arrest people for interrogation, but this is not secret activity. It also makes no secret of executions, which, in fact, are shown on all holovision channels. We do not want anyone to be able to start false rumors of a traitor escaping, fooling the government, or any of that. By showing the execution, we show that we unequivocally defeated the target.

As you can see, the existence of this agency is not a secret. The methods used for its investigations, on the other hand, usually are.

DomIntel's foreign-oriented counterpart, Foreign Intelligence or ForIntel, is a combination spy agency and secret police. It is usually used to infiltrate, spy on, and sometimes even use black ops to take over foreign countries. However, if there is a Decepticon traitor who has fled Cybertron - and we are genuinely interested in neutralizing him even though he has left - ForIntel will be assigned to track him down and execute him. It will also have to retrieve or utterly destroy the body so that any foreigners present cannot reverse-engineer it.

Not to anyone's knowledge, but that doesn't rule out their existence, it just suggests that if there is a secret police they are incredibly good at remaining secret.
