Now this is a fair analysis.

Yeah, being an arachnophobe, that episode nearly gave me a panic attack.

I myself admit it has not been terrible. I'm only here for the aforementioned reasons of "Please kill Ahsoka", but I haven't been bored so far. That fight with the Krayt Dragon was pretty slick.

Ameri is reluctantly admitting that something alright? Gentlemen, we have just found the most flawless piece of cinema in history.

I said not terrible. I also didn't say it was great. Remember I was enjoying season 1 before he got his ass kicked by Jawas.

So a common criticism I've heard about Chapter 10 and the series in general is that there's too much "filler." I respectfully have to disagree with this assessment. I think we've been spoiled by the Marvel movies in the sense of everything in those movies comes back and gets tied back together. The Mandalorian isn't a Marvel movie. In fact it's not a movie. It's a TV show. And I reject the notion that every single event in the show has to be directly tied to the main plot. TV shows don't have to run like extended, single plot movies. It's okay if an episode sort of stands alone, or doesn't get us very far in regard to the main goal. Mando is more of a series of stories that slowly but surely take the hero where he's going. It's all loosely tied together to one main plot. But not everything is directly related to that main plot. And that, I think, is okay.

I blame internet critical culture. A story can't just be told anymore, it needs to be analyised 6 ways from Sunday, and anything that isn't groundbreaking plot development is just filler or bad.

Personally, if I call an episode filler, it’s because the story was mostly forgettable. A stand-alone episode can still be strong on its own.

One episode not heavily connected to the main plot that I wouldn’t call filler is the prison break episode from Season 1. Just one episode gives you memorable characters, more backstory on the Mandalorian, subtle glimpses into New Republic law enforcement and organized crime syndicates, and further development of the main character from a mercenary who only cares about being paid to a more traditionally heroic figure. That episode also demonstrated his guile hero aspects pretty well.

An episode I would call filler is the one where he goes to the shrimp peasant planet, fights an AT-ST for twenty minutes, and almost falls for some random woman because... I don’t even know why.

Then again, the events of the prison break episode ended up being referenced in the last episode, so who knows. Maybe every episode in the series actually sets something up.
TG me about my avatars for useless trivia.

A very good link right here.

Can we talk about how painful Rex´s talk with Cut (a clone deserter) where he says he is fighting so that the children and their grandchildren wont have to fight knowing that 50 years later in the ST that is exactly what happens? The Clone Wars is honestly one of my favorite eras for this exact reason. Its just so beautifully tragic and it kills me inside every time.

Honestly the trajectory of the galaxy seems to be towards utter anarchy. The galaxy changes major governments like every decade, that can't be healthy.

I mean honestly it might be for the best if the galaxy simply broke up into several smaller states. I mean we see with examples such as the Republic or Empire that massive galaxy spanning governments will pretty consistently become corrupt and bloated if not out right genocidal and oppressive. Like at best you get an ineffective corrupt Republic and at worst you get the Empire.

The galaxy is way to big to be easily governed from one place. Too many different cultures, too many different peoples.

The Mandalorian is like Gunsmoke or The Rifleman. It's just a meandering show where an episode can play out and not really mean much for the show overall or the broader universe. As long as it's entertaining I don't mind. It's not my preferred form of television of course, but it can be enjoyable.

I don't expect masterpieces from Disney when they've shown they have major issues even making passable content. I'm just happy they're making something decent.

I will say, in the era of prestige television, the weaknesses of the episodic/serialized one offs is made far more apparent.

You know people mocked Bill Burr's unabashed Boston accent in his guest role, but as far as accents are concerned, if there if Coruscant is basically Space England, it stands to reason there's a space New England, and in that Space New England a Space Boston.

Wait, since when is Coruscant "Space England"? British accents have always been tied to Sith and their various empires, never to one planet.
