Atheburn Lions

Captain: Brady Byerley
Home ground: Atheburn Oval, Atheburn, (72,000)

This strenth, however, leaves obvious gaps in other areas that other teams will only be happy to exploit.

Elesborough Everblades
Media expectation: Championship
Captain: Elridge Suprenant
Home ground: Southgate Park, Plibury, (42,000)
First-class status: N/A
Championships:
About: The Everblades do not have the strongest cricket heritage behind them, as they try to conquer the world from the IT hub that is Plibury: but they do have determination and resilience, which make them top contenders for this year's domestic cricket season in the Grearish Union. They will be evidently hard to beat, as the bookmakers believe, but maybe not impossible to knock a few points off of.

Forsho Rangers
Media expectation: 9th overall
Captain: Son Scopes
Home ground: Alcette Park, Forsho, (5,000)
First-class status: N/A
Championships:
About: The Forsho Rangers were born out of the severe need to separate the Valgow State and the Forsho City due to the increasing political disputes about things cricket should not be concerned with. This separation meant the creation of a sort of 'derby' between the Rangers and the Valgow Bulls. The metropolitan team sees less crowds at 5,000 owing to their important city jobs, while their State rivals enjoy much higher amounts of support.

About: The highlanders from Urdsall are called the Magpies as a tribute to the state bird and the abundance of the magnificent creatures in the area. They play in the picturesque Stade Rose in Urdsall when at home, making for a promising show when combined with the good quality cricket that should see them ending mid-table at the end of the season.

DOMESTIC SEASON 1: Part 1
The first organised domestic cricket season has come to athe first mid-season break as most of the teams try to find their footing in the various competitions that have already stirred up a frenzy in the sport-loving nation. The ten teams were asked to participate as delegations from their respective states, bringing out the best of the cricketing talents that the nation has to offer. The creation of the league came largely as a result of the poor rotation of players in the national side, and the even poorer results that stem out of it: causing large discontent among the Grearish supporters and fans alike.

The first five matchweeks of the Letterman Trophy first-class championship saw the first leg being played out in the two groups of 5 teams each. Scopes' Forsho kicked off the proceedings in Matchweek 1 when they went away to Services to put on a humongous total of 512 on the board, but failed to eke out what could have been be a defining victory for them. The Sylestonean Sean Polen proved to be good with both bat and ball in the first innings, with a five wicket haul, and an unbeated 150 to show for his fine form. Elsewhere, Railways hosted Valgow, but missed out on the hospitality as the visitors crumbled to a defeat by the margin of an innings and 8 runs. Cullison played a skipper's knock as his team cruised to a bonus-point victory. Adenham faced a brutal defeat away in another important viewing in Group B, where they were taken apart by the Glomridge side who had to chase down a target as little as 3 in the second innings. Sylestone A cricketer Jack Martin played a crucial double-century knock to guide his team to a very important first-innings lead, and eventually the full bonus-point victory.

Matchweek 2 was in stark contrast to the opening matchweek, with three of the four matches ending in draws, and crowds all over the country mildly discontent with the quality of cricket on display. It would be unfair, though, to discount the other section of people (mostly ones who had one beer too many at the cricket and didn't have any idea of where they were by the end of day's play0 who thought the drawn matches were perfectly alright, and on the plus side, it showed the immense competitiveness of the Letterman Trophy. even in such sterile circumstances, Atheburn managed to be handed a thumping defeat of 241-run margin at the hands of Elesborough, who wrapped the hosts up in the second innings for a paltry score of 97 on the board.

Onward to matchweek 3, and the most dramatic viewing was awaiting keen eyes in Forsho city of the Valgow state, where two teams faced-off in a local derby of sorts - but only cricket. Son Copes' side seemed nervy from the start as they were bowled out for 182, and the celebrated Sean Polen was given out cheaply for 15. Valgow were also reduced to 360, with Benedetto mustering a fine hundred. The first innings lead, however, seemed to prove insurmountable for the city side, as they were dismissed yet again for a total of 175 within two sessions. Isidro Ditmore shined yet again with the ball, as he hauled 6-87 figures in the second innings and bagged the player of the match award.

Manta Islands and Elesborough continued their strong run of form in their respective groups through Matchweek 4, as they both registered strong bonus-point victories over struggling opposition. Stacy Paiz and Carol Heilig were in sublime form for the Elesborough side in their glorious home victory which spanned the entirety of the stipulated 4-days, but was as one-sided the Brenecia football match versus Grearia in the South Newlandian 28th Campionato Esportiva. Taylor Kincheloe continued to impress with her form with the bat for Manta Is. as they team awaited the recovery of the tragically injured 17-year-old Lachland Edwards of the Sylestone national team. Manta have taken over all costs of his treatment and will look after his future as they believe that despite the injury, Edwards will still be one of the shining stars in world cricket in the days to come.

Matchweek 5 ended affairs before the mid-season break, with Manta Islands registering yet another victory over the opposition, and Forsho still being on the wrong side of the result. Scopes was found to be struggling for words to explain these defeats, but the damage was (mostly) done by the final post-match press conference. The Group B favourites in Elesborough edged out a 3-run lead against Adenham to secure the 3-points in a draw match as opposed to the 1-point that went the trailing opposition's way.

The Corbett Cup saw exhilarating action right from the get-go, where the Chicaster Clarets squeezed out a victory against a resilient Forsho Rangers side in a heart-stopping super over encounter. After a tie at a total of 214, the Rangers decided to bat first in the super over, but could only muster a total of 7 runs while the Clarets skipped past them with one delivery to spare. The Everblades also got off to a very fine start with a 35-run win over the Manta Islanders, along with the discovery of Laurence Swisher being in exquisite form for them with the bat. Group B saw the Glomridge Magpies and the Grearish Services snatch wins from the opposition to register their first points on the board. Capt. Ernie Behm impressed for the Services with a steady knock of 63* while the Magpies registered their win mostly thanks to skipper Monty Birt's leadership, and a solid Jack Martin guiding the team with the bat.

The Everblades continued their fine form in the following matchweek, with commanding 68-run win over the Chicaster Clarets putting them firmly on the top of the Group A standings. The other Group A encounter saw the Forsho Rangers absolutely demolishing every little sign and semblance of the Valgow Bulls, almost as a revenge for the humiliating loss in the Letterman Trophy. Copes' side showed no mercy in thrashing the Bulls' bowling attack, with Copes himself cruising to a fine, but unlikely fifty in conjunction with the Sylestonean stalwart in Sean Polen to put up a dominating 6th wicket partnership that decided the match. Elsewhere, the magpies continued to dominte their Group with an 80-run victory to stamp their authority ofver the proceedings, while the Grearish Railways had to accept defeat in front of a resilient Bears side. Zachary Charlton was found in the runs, while Mirian Dodds hit the final six to win the match and to secure her very deserved century.

Railways bounced back, to the poet's delight, as they posted a mammoth total of 350 for the Services to chase. Even after getting off to a good start, Services crumbled to a sub-200 total, awarding the Railways a much-needed breathing space off the back of a devastating loss in the previous matchweek. In the other Group B encounter, the Atheburn Lions registered a 135-run victory over the Magpies, with Brady Byerley cruising to a magnificent 223* on a difficult pitch to bat on. Group A saw convincing victories for both the Bulls and the Clarets as the Islanders face their second loss in a row after a second-matchweek-bye. Simon Monteane played a beautiful knock for the Chicaster Clarets helping them on their way to what was ultimately a well-earned win. The group stages have finally started to take shape.

The Bulls bounce back eventually in Matchweek 4, along with a surprise defeat for the mighty Elesborough Everblades at the hands of Forsho Rangers in Group A. Group B, however, kept being the arena of dominance for the Railways side as they kept crushing one oppositon after another - this time the unfortunate ones being the Atheburn Lions. In the other match, Zachary Charlton played yet another fine innings to lead the Bears to a much-needed victory.

The final matchweek 5 in the group stage offered viewings of crushing victories for the Rangers and the Bulls, with stellar bowling performances from Elva Heffington and Harrison Posner for the Rangers, who picked up all the ten Manta wickets between themselves. Group B ended with yet another Railways win, and yet another sporadic Atheburn Lions win: cementing the places of both of these teams in the quarter final stages.

The PremierT20 has also begun to take shape as all teams finish playing 5 of their stipulated 18 matches! All the usual suspects were expected to win matches right from the off, but the biggest surprise came to many in the form of the Elesborough Everblades, who find themselves at the bottom of the PremierT20 tables in spite of dominating performances in the other formats. The Everblades-Railways match went on to a super over, and the other matches were also lost at a very small margin, which could be an excuse that the Everblades might use to explain their sorry T20 state to the fans. One of the biggest problems that the Everblades faced was the poor form of their T20 experts in Jonathan Halm and Laurence Swisher, both of whom were prolific in the ODI tournament, which is now in sharp contrast. The Valgow Bulls and the Glomridge Magpies on the other hand have looked very promising in this tournament with four solid winning performances to propel themselves to the top of the league despite disappointing in the other formats. It only goes on to show further that the PremierT20 is way more unpredictable than the other Grearish cricket tournaments, and probably rightfully so. The Magpies still have the 18-year old Jack Martin powering his way forward, but this time with positive results, while the Bulls have Gene Pettitt (WK) and Teneka Pippin on song with the bat. Miriam Beans' slow right-armers have proved difficult to handle for the PremierT20 batsmen, and the Bulls' captain in Alexandria Starkweather has made full use of the added edge.

Overview
The quearterfinals of the Corbett Cup came thick and fast with the first one seeing the Magpies defeating the Rangers riding on the back of a fantastic run of form for Jack Martin and a beautiful batting performance for 25-y/o Samuel Doucet with a magnificent fifty. Enoch Suits found form for the Magpies as well with a 3-46 figures at the end of his stipulated 10-over quota. Rangers were mostly let down by their bowling attack led by the skipper Copes and Heffington, with the result ultimately not going their way.

The second quarterfinal provided a fantastic viewing for the lovers of a nice run-chase, where the Atheburn Lions won by 2-wickets in what could be called a bit of gamble. They lost 8 wickets in trying to play aggressively, but eventually wonwith 12 overs to spare. While their strategy might come under scrutiny, the fans wouldn't bee too disappointed in winning a game against one of the tournament's strongest teams. The Bulls went down a little unexpectedly, to be fair, but it only means that they can concentrate better on the PremierT20 going forward, and may well be a blessing in disguise in their bid to try and reach the CLT20.

The Everblades have (thankfully, for the fans) won their own quarterfinal defeating the Adenham Bears after a dismal (some might even go to the length of saying that they were shocking!) performance in the PremierT20 matches that the side had played: losing all of the 5 in the previous part of the season. This time, they were found buoyant, with the talismanic all-rounder in Sean Polen finding both runs and wickets for the Everblades in what ended up being a convincing victory.

Chicaster Clarets have also found themselves on the right side of a quarterfinal result after chasing down the 270-run target that the Railways set for them. The match went down to the wire, with Simon Monteane putting the penultimate delivery away for a boundary to settle the scores. Railways keep suffering from the same second-best syndrome ever since the beginning of the current cricekt season, and that seems to have no change whatsoever.

Matchday 6 found the Valgow Bulls in sublime form as they steamrolled over the Railways challenge by a margin of 36 runs, while also claiming all 10 of the Railways wickets. Isidro Ditmore's performance caught they eyes of many as the express bowler picked up 3 wickets for a total of 18 runs given (3-18) along with an impressive maiden over. Elsewhere, Services went one up against the Manta Islanders in a mid-table clash: there is no doubt about the fact that the Services will be absolutely ecstatic given the stature of the win. The Clarets also absolutely demolished the opposition as the skipper in 22-year-old Taryn Eslick found some runs after a dry patch in his game. While the critics said that maybe the weight of captaincy was pulling him down, this may be seen as a befitting reply to the naysayers.

The big news was obviously the Clarets succumbing humbly to the Forsho Rangers' challenge, which, to be fair wasn't expected at all from this match. As it stands, the Rangers' led by Copes were the ones who actually turned out to the cricket pitch they day the game was slated and sealed the fate of the encounter then and there. A thumping defeat may not bode well for the Clarets' mental preparedness for the rest of the campaign, with the tournament rapidly approaching the halfway mark. The Atheburn Lions picked up a valuable away win as well against the Magpies, chasing down the set total with a fair few overs to spare.

The best viewing could be found yet again at the Atheburn Lions' game as they surpassed a Manta Islands' total of 181 in a matter of 18 overs and a few spare deliveries. Diego Fox and Tiffany Strack's 100-run partnership led the Lions to a comfortable victory in the end.

DOMESTIC SEASON 1: Part 5
With the Everblades being crowned champions of both the Letterman Trophy and the Corbett Cup, the final between the Lions and either the Bulls or the Clarets promise of a new champion in the PremierT20. Who will it be? The world and the Champion's Path spot in the in the CLT20 await eagerly! These are the final 2 matches of the entire domestic season for this year, and probably the two most important games: the 2nd Qualifier and the Grand Final!

Penultimate Round
     PLAYOFFS
Chicaster Clarets 157/5 (20 overs)
Valgow Bulls 155/6 (20 overs)

Overview
The Clarets have registered a valuable win, getting CLT20 spot booked in their name! Clarets legend-in-making Simon Monteane found himself off-form, today, while Faustino Veatch delivered for the winning side. Angeline Ponder was also on a pink-patch as she had a four wicket haul to her name with 4-28 figures to her name. The Bulls never really found themselves a way back into the match at any point in time, except a gutsy Temeka Pippin kock of a modest 67 before being dismissed Ponder, and subsequently ending the Bulls' resistance.

Final Round
     FINAL
Chicaster Clarets 173/3 (20 overs)
Atheburn Lions 163/7 (20 overs)

Chicaster Clarets are PremierT20 Season 1 Champions!

Overview
With Atheburn Lions already cementing their spot in the upcoming Champions' League T20, the Chicaster Clarets have followed suit but have gone one-better and got themselves into the Champions' Path spot in the CLT20 for next season. The final was as exhilarating as was advertised by CG, with the chase going down to the last delivery of the last over! Maynard Hulse of the Lions was faced with the task of getting 9 runs in the final 2 deliveries bowled by the Clarets' Bambi Dilley. Hulse, however, could only push the ball deep to snatch a quick two. The only delivery left must now be put away for a six at least to tie the match, but all that Hulse could do was to have a wild swing at the slow left-armer's delivery, hoping to connect. He did connect, but only with the edge, with the ball trickling down to third man. By the time the ball was back, a single was taken, and the Clarets in the dugout were rushing out onto the field. Chicaster are champions of Grearia, and the first Grearish side to enter the international Champions' League T20 as champions!

DOMESTIC SEASON 2: Preview
  • All squads are listed in descending order of performance index. The higher a player is ranked, the better they will perform.
  • The squads for all three formats are the same, but listed differently in correnspondence to differing limited/unlimited overs' ability and form.
  • Forsho is the capital of Valgow state, but has a separate cricket association. (Making for an interesting rivalry!)
  • The winners and runners-up of the PremierT20 and the Letterman Trophy qualify for the international CLT20 and the ETFC respectively.
  • Rankings are maintained separately for all three formats.

Adenham Bears
Media expectation: Mediocre (overall)
Captain: Dewayne Goolsby
Home ground: Old Moor, Salvador, (12,000)
First-class status: Plate
Championships: None
About: Hailing from a part of the country where cricket isn't the #1 sport, the Bears have modest expectations in their Grearish domestic cricket season. They call the cricket ground at Old Moor, a large meadow at the foothills of the Antane Mountains, their home with a maximum capactiy of 12,000 spectators.
Preview: Finishing 5th in the Premier T20, last in their group in the Letterman Trophy, and getting knocked out in the Corbett Cup quarterfinals rounded out what was a dismal campaign for the Bears. Stars Dewayne Goolsby and Miriam Dodds found themselves frequently in and out of the national side, while Zachary Charlton, the Sylestonean, didn't find the form. This season, the Bears are expected to provide yet another mediocre performance, especially from the depths of the Plate Group that they will find themselves in, for the First-Class competition.

Atheburn Lions
Media expectation: Championship (T20), Mediocre (overall)
Captain: Brady Byerley
Home ground: Atheburn Oval, Atheburn, (72,000)
First-class status: Plate
Championships: None
About: The Lions represent the National Capital Region of Atheburn, and are known to be unpredictable. WIth a solid following of devoted fans, the Lions are a traditional hub of cricketing activity and the pulse of all things that scream Grearish cricket.
Preview: Season 1 had been a season to forget for the Lions, with them finishing last in their group in the Letterman Trophy. Starting from the Plate group this season would be an increased headache for an already ailing unlimited overs team. The limited overs' scenario looks much better, with national team wicket-keeper Brady Byerley leading the team out to the field in the CLT20.

Chicaster Clarets
Media expectation: Championship (overall)
Captain: Daniel Fomleya (Sylestone)
Home ground: Auburn Hill, Edgenorth, (30,000)
First-class status: Elite
Championships: Premier T20 (1)
About: The Chicaster state is represented by the Clarets, who play out of Auburn Hill in Edgenorth, that sees a crowd of up to 30,000 at its maximum, epecially when the Clarets are demolishing the opposition on a Sunday afternoon.
Preview: Daniel Fomleya was roped in as the biggest surprise of the season, by the Chicaster Clarets as the captaincy was snatched from Taryn Eslick. The Sylestone national side had been led by Fomleya for quite some time now, bringing the national team up through the ranks in international cricket. Even though the skipper would lead the opposition out against the Black Dolphins in East-West Cups and the like; he is now well and truly the skipper of the defending PremierT20 champions. Expectations are high from him, Monteane, Eslick in the batting departments, while international-capped Palin and Ponder will look to bring stability in the bowling attack. Clarets have always been high-flyers in the circuit, and it is clear that they will have no plans for that to change anytime soon.

Elesborough Everblades
Media expectation: Championship (overall)
Captain: Elridge Suprenant
Home ground: Southgate Park, Plibury, (42,000)
First-class status: Elite
Championships: Letterman Trophy (1), Corbett Cup (1)
About: The Everblades do not have the strongest cricket heritage behind them, as they try to conquer the world from the IT hub that is Plibury: but they do have determination and resilience, which make them top contenders for each domestic cricket season in the Grearish Union. They have traditionally always been hard to beat, but maybe not impossible to knock a few points off of.
Preview: Elridge Suprenant has led the side to glory time and time again in the last season, under his very able leadership. Winning both the List-A Corbett Cup, and the First Class Letterman Trophy has solidified their spot in the cricketing scene as one of the strongest contenders in Grearish cricket. This season, the team will be looking towards improving a rather weak T20 department as well as building on their First Class and List-A successes. Stacy Paiz and Drusilla Scruggs will be the other players to look out for, having already been capped for the Black Dolphins.

Forsho Rangers
Media expectation: Lowly (overall)
Captain: Son Copes
Home ground: Alcette Park, Forsho, (5,000)
First-class status: Plate
Championships: None
About: The Forsho Rangers were born out of the severe need to separate the Valgow State and the Forsho City due to the increasing political disputes about things cricket should not be concerned with. This separation meant the creation of a sort of 'derby' between the Rangers and the Valgow Bulls. The metropolitan team sees less crowds at 5,000 owing to their important city jobs, while their State rivals enjoy much higher amounts of support.
Preview: The question that the Rangers will need to answer this season from Alcette Park is based mostly on the premise of 'how much more?' An ageing Son Copes is still leading the side out to the field everytime, with only the Sylestonean in Sean Polen as his respite from the overarching burden of responsibilites. Elva Heffington has also seen some national team action in her time, but her form seems to have dropped off a little bit since then. Destiny may only have the Plate group written against their name, and the challenge is to prove that wrong. Yet, the Rangers seem hardly prepared.

Glomridge Magpies
Media expectation: Mediocre (overall)
Captain: Monty Birt
Home ground: Stade Rose, Urdsall, (25,000)
First-class status: Plate
Championships: None
About: The highlanders from Urdsall are called the Magpies as a tribute to the state bird and the abundance of the magnificent creatures in the area. They play in the picturesque Stade Rose in Urdsall when at home, making for a promising show when combined with good quality cricket.
Preview: Crashing out of the Letterman Trophy must have been mighty difficult, but the Highlanders braved through that phase with strong List-A performances to see themselves through into the Corbett Cup semi-finals and the PremierT20 playoffs where they booked an eliminator berth. There still isn't a ton of expectation from a side who aren't known to exactly overacheive too much.

Grearish Railways
Media expectation: High (First-class), Mediocre (overall)
Captain: Osvaldo Cullison
Home ground: Railway Sports Complex, Atheburn, (8,000)
First-class status: Elite
Championships: None
About: The Grearish Railways are an important part of the domestic setup, mostly due to the fact that they are also an employer aside from the cricket. The team ensures employment of the players representing them in the Corbett Cup and the Letterman Trophy. This makes playing the team a lucrative thing in uncertain times in terms of job availabilty.
Preview: The national skipper finds himself leading the Grearish Railways once again. Him being a second-generation employee of the Railways corporation helps, but probably not as much as his leadership abilities. An entirely Grearish side looks up to the national captain in the team, who might not be the most amazingly gifter cricketer, but is certainly a gifted tactician. The experience of young national-team prospects like Marni Passman and new entries in Wilber Schisler make this team an exciting prospect.

Grearish Services
Media expectation: Lowly (overall)
Captain: Gita Teter
Home ground: Defence Sports Complex, Atheburn outskirts, (4,000)
First-class status: Plate
Championships: None
About: The bravehearts in the Defence forces of Grearia represent themselves in the Services team. This team consists of mostly service-personnel in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Internal Securities. Any other players signed on are ensured a stable job in one of the many Defence organisations, which makes playing for Services a matter of economic and social gains too, beyond the reaches of cricket.
Preview: In what would be wicket-keeper-batsman Wei Morello's final shout at domestic cricket glory, skipper Gita Teter will be put under considerable pressure to handle talented youngsters like Nethercott and Merrill in their effort to do at least a little better than their last outing. The lowly depths of the Plate group will provide for a considerable challenge in the First-class Letterman Trophy, but it is perhaps for these difficult situations that our soldiers train themselves for!

Manta Islanders
Media expectation: High (first-class), Average (overall)
Captain: Taylor Kincheloe
Home ground: Waterfront Oval, Colk, (25,000)
First-class status: Elite
Championships: None
About: The Islanders are thought to be one of the strongest contenders for most championships, with a deep-rooted affinity and heritage of playing cricket, as well as proper investments being made in to infrastructure and player development throughout the stage. Yet, they have been nowhere close to expectation in List-A and T20 formats.
Preview: The very stylish taylor Kincheloe is in charge of the Islanders' campaign this season as well, with the 18-y/o lackland Edwards continuing his effort in trying to get back to international cricket. Brendon Corrie will be an important linchpin in the side, having recently broken into the national team and is also in considerably good form. For this season, Manta will be looking to build on their First Class success, while also trying to make inroads into the List-A and T20 competitions.

Valgow Bulls
Media expectation: Mediocre (overall)
Captain: Alexandria Starkweather
Home ground: Adam Garden, Forsho, (60,000)
First-class status: Elite
Championships:
About: When Alexandria Starkweather leads the bull-charge into the field, 60,000 hearts at the Adam Garden willbe waiting to roar, in anticipation of what the state team could offer, especially in a derby-like situation against the Forsho Rangers. Victories in such matches become the centre of jubilation for the suburbs and small cities that the state team represents, while a Forsho win brings gloom.
Preview: It is generally accepted that the Bulls' side has always been traditionally average - not only in a way of being harsh, perhaps, but also in some form og a compliment. With great talents like Alexandria Starkweather, Numbers Benedetto and Temeka Pippin who find themselves frequently in the national side, the Bulls should really do better. A playoff spot in the last PremierT20 was the only achievement that the Bulls could muster for themselves, but that won't be enough to become an Elite first-class force to be reckoned with. An average season stares Valgow in the face and possibly even relegation from the First Class Elite group.
