Louisville Police Officer Sues Breonna Taylor's Boyfriend

Reported by CBS, police officer Jonathan Mattingly is currently suing Kenneth Walker, boyfriend of Breonna Taylor, for emotional distress, assault, and battery on the night of Taylor's murder. Mattingly was one of the officers present in the no-knock raid and subsequent murder of Breonna Taylor. He was also shot by Walker in self defense when the police bursted into the house unannounced. Mattingly is currently seeking compensation for his injury and emotional turmoil it caused.

What do you all make of this news? When I first saw it, I was shocked. I really wanted to believe no one could be this moronic and heartless to do this. But it's been reported by several outlets already such as CBS (link above). I'm only glad that, if Mattingly follows through, this will require him to go into depositions of his actions which may result in perjury and it will strip him of his immunity for his involvement in the no-knock raid.

Walker shot him, as walker believed the break in was illegal he had grounds to shoot, and no criminal charges would stick to him.

That said if the cop can succeed in the civil charge, it will help him in his defense against any proceeding against him for his actions in Taylor's death.

My respect for the LVPD as an institution on a scale from 1 to 10 dropped from -5 to -10 when they tried to claim Breona Taylor was a drug kingpin, and now it just nosedived to -75.

They gunned down his girlfriend, assassinated her character and now a cop is suing the guy. And they wonder why the community doesn't trust them or enjoy their presence. Emotional trauma? At least this cop didn't have to see his girlfriend get murdered. He doesn't have a right to complain.

I learned as a kid that to alot of these cops (disclaimer, not all because I gotta constantly say this since no one understands the word alot) no lives matter. They'll shoot you in the head and then claim you had a gun, and when everyone realizes that wasn't true, they'll go back through your past, find some moment you ain't proud of and say that at day's end they were doing the community a favor when they murdered you.

Think of everyone killed by police. The next day they're bringing up about the time the guy smoked weed in highschool or got in a fight in grade 5, like damn you would have to be Jesus for them not to find some excuse to justify why you had to die. And this is why I pray that I'm never killed by a cop. Because I know they'll drag up my most shameful moments and portray me as a monster after killing me. It's shameful and disgusting crap.

This is why I've been tired of the blue lives matter crowd. They act totally oblivious as to why many people don't trust the cops, and appropriate a phrase originally created to call attention to people killed unjustly by the police.

It's a false equivalency. You kill a cop, you go to prison forever assuming they don't seek the death penalty against you. You kill a civilian when you're a cop, they do everything they can to protect you from justice. I'll be more on board when the punishment for gunning down an unarmed man while in uniform is equivalent to the punishment for killing a cop. Till then, don't even make the comparison.

The lawsuit claims Louisville Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly experienced "severe trauma, mental anguish, and emotional distress" because of Kenneth Walker's actions on March 13.


Mattingly and two other officers entered Taylor's apartment early in the morning that day with a warrant in an attempt to carry out a drug investigation. Walker, a licensed gun owner who said he thought the officers were intruders, allegedly fired a shot that hit Mattingly in the leg. Police opened fire, killing Taylor. Taylor had no criminal record and no drugs were found.

"Walker's conduct in shooting Mattingly is outrageous, intolerable, and offends all accepted standards of decency and morality," the lawsuit said, citing one of the legal standards for intentional emotional distress.
