Ezekiel Bullo, XIV Summer Olympiad Gold Medal Game

The gold medal match of an Olympic Games, on home soil. It was an once in a lifetime opportunity, and yet, here is where Ezekiel Bullo found himself. On the floor, a chance to etch himself into the history books of the Olympic Games. The home crowd for the gold medal match in Istria had been as raucous a crowd as he had ever seen in his life. The stadium was almost shaking at the energy flowing through the crowd. They were engaged even before the match started. When the national anthems were sang, the singer gave up halfway through the Banijan one, and just held the microphone to the crowd, as they boomed it.

IT was a special event. And for such a special event, the crowd was always going to be super into it. And especially on the final day of the games too- it was the biggest event Banija had an athlete left in. And they had been treated to a barnstormer of a game. Back and forth, hard fought. Every possession, points had to be earned. And it had all come down to these final moments. Both rotations were short for the final, because obviously. Greater Vakolicci Haven led, 68-66, with 12 seconds left. Every single person at Caribou Arena was on their feet, as the Banijans took their final time out.

And that's when the head coach, Isaiah Lavaga, started speaking. "OK, here's our play." He said. "Secka dribbles the ball up. Pass to Bullo on the elbow. Secka will then curl to the corner, and Bullo can either take the ball to the basket, or make whatever pass he sees fit." The five Banijans nodded, and Bullo jogged back onto the court. The star point guard Amadou Secka, in his final game wearing this uniform, brought the ball up the court. He threw the ball to Bullo on the elbow. Secka ran to his right as his defender slipped. Bullo made the pass. Defenders desperately tried to scramble to the ball as Secka launched a wide open three with 5 seconds left.

The ball seemed to sail in the air forever. Bullo tried to move himself to the rim to get a rebound. The ball came, and it seemed to start going down. But it went halfway down, and came back out. It rimmed out. The GVH center grabbed the board, and Bullo fouled him. "Fuck!" He yelled as the crowd was stunned to silence. The GVH bench started jumping up and down, celebrating. This center walked down to the other end, hit both free throws, and that was it. 70-66. On home soil, Banijan basketball had lost another final.

Bullo simply sat on the bench. The crowd had all stayed where they were, stunned. Amadou Secka had walked up to Bullo. "Man, we came this close."

"We did Amadou." Bullo sat there, simply staring. This hurt just as much as Newmanistan's four point play at the end of the IBC 29 Final to stun the Lions.

"You know I'm not gonna be back." Amadou said. "I'm going back to Donnacona, but this is it in terms of the national team. Itraba is done too. It's your team now, Ezekiel."

"What?" Bullo replied.

"You're gonna be the guy now. Nabongo is dominant as well- you and Nabongo are the 1-2 punch that will push this team over the top. The pressure will be on you for IBC 30. But be ready- it will be an experience unlike one you've ever had."

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL BASKETBALL TEAM

This will be Abanhfleft's sixteenth time participating in the International Basketball Championships. It's the end of an era as Abanhfleft's old stars are now bowing out of the international stage (and some of them are even bowing out of the FBA as well), paving the way for new and rising stars to take their places and hopefully bring massive and much-needed improvements to the team's performances. Really, the old guard should have moved on maybe a few years earlier, but they all thought that they still had what it takes, but IBC 26 finally proved both to them and to everyone else that they don't got it. But how about this new batch? What do they bring to the table? And what can they bring back to the Democratic Republic at the end of this tournament?

HOME STADIUM (The Fleftic Arena, Riuwiee)
Image
Presenting the Fleftic Arena, the largest indoor arena by seating capacity in the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft

Situated in the north of Abanhfleft's capital city of Riuwiee is the National Sports Park, a 140-hectare "special national designated area" in which a majority of Riuwiee's sporting facilities are located. Standing out among the stadia and gymnasia is the massive and imposing structure and flat roof of the Fleftic Arena, officially the largest indoor stadium in the whole of Abanhfleft with its official stated capacity of 100,786 seated spectators for indoor sports. The structure broke ground on September 26, 2009 as part of the capital city's reconstruction efforts following the aftermath of the Holy Catholic Revolution of 2008 which left nearly the entirety of Riuwiee devastated, and construction was completed over three years later in 2012. The Fleftic Arena is the official home arena of the Abanhfleft national basketball team and has played host to dozens of matches during the International Basketball Championships. Aside from that, the Riuwiee Presidents of the Fleftic Basketball Association occasionally uses the Fleftic Arena as its home stadium when it plays marquee match-ups against well-known teams from the league such as the Malabon Black Ops or the Markovsky Red Army, taking advantage of the arena's huge capacity when the capacity of their usual home stadium, the Sterling Arena, is deemed to be not enough for games of such popularity. Aside from that, the Fleftic Arena has also played host to at least four FBA All-Star Weekends since its inauguration and opening in 2012.

As for the stadium's location, Riuwiee is the capital city of Abanhfleft and is home to over 20 million people. The Fleftic people are very crazy and passionate about basketball, and even though their home side the Riuwiee Presidents has been disappointing in the FBA as of late, the fans still come out in droves to support and cheer for their team.

Victory start!

"Wonderful results!" shouts Quibbie, the coach of INS basketball squad. "Quibbie? That wasn't his name" someone or the other would ask. Yes! That isn't ! He's known as Quibbie because he was playing for a local team name Quibberux Wolfs. The team of the Wolves were the best in the nation. Wolves won 6 national basketball squad cups in a row, all under the captaincy of Quibbie. So that's why he's known as Quibbie! " I didn't expect this to happen!" speaks Quibbie again! He's really surprised that he could get a win for the team, that too against Ethane! The match was won by the Blue Loops for a mere seven point margin. That's for a score of 68-75. "I think it was a luck game! Ethanians were playing really well. It's just luck that made us win the game!" speaks Kinto Askie, a local sports journalist. Winning the first match is always good, it boosts confidence. Valladares and Chromatika have also won their game and the three teams are having the same points. Indusse and Chromatika leads the group with the same points and Valladares (+5) is just behind them. Kohnhead,Abanhleft and Ethane are those who lost the game. Who knows what is going to happen? Maybe they'll win the next and we will lose to them!

The atmosphere at The Palestra was different from what you might expect for a match between a top-10 ranked team and an unranked visitor.

For one thing, the crowd of 17,166 was pulsing with what several observers described as pent up energy. Sure, this marked the first home match with no restrictions related to the SARS 2 novel Coronavirus pandemic that killed 28,000 Sarzonians. It would be the first time since the country's most recent period of isolation that The Palestra would see a near-capacity crowd.

For another, comments by visiting media about their expectations for the match privately rankled the Stars.

"They expect a close game," guard Mike West said after seeing the reports from Central Shaneville. "They said there was 'no clear favourite'," he added. "We'll just see about that."

Unlike the team's opening match against Sylestone where Coach Thomas Manningham took the throttle off after the outcome was no longer in doubt, Manningham kept his starters in the contest late in the game as Sarzonia cruised to an 85-65 victory that improved the Stars to 2-0 with a solid lead in the Green Group.

Following the match, Manningham said the Stars sought to send a message to the upstarts from Central Shaneville.

"We read their press," he said. "We knew they were confident. We had to remind them who they're dealing with." West led all scorers with 30 points and added seven rebounds and five assists. He said he wanted to play the full 40 minutes, noting that the team played 48-minute matches in the Gold Coast Basketball Tournament.

"I felt like I could do it," he said. Manningham took West out with 58 seconds remaining so the Stars supporters remaining in The Palestra could salute him with a warm ovation.

The Stars have an away match against ZSeparatists next.

Elsewhere in the Green Group, the Royal Kingdom of Quebec rebounded from a shocking opening match loss to Central Shanesville with a 77-68 triumph over The Grearish Union, ZSeparatists evened their record to 1-1 with a 91-74 win over Sylestone, dropping the inflatable car dealership dudes to 0-2.

Other results of interest saw Delaclava drop to 1-1 with a 90-79 defeat to world No. 2 Drawkland, fellow multi-sport rivals Banija clobber Rwekazaland 115–62 and former archrivals Newmanistan defeat Nova Anglicana 99–74 Nova. The Rockets remain undefeated since their quarterfinals loss to Drawkland in IBC 28 after a perfect 14-0 run through IBC 29.

As for the Stars, Manningham said his team could only play the matches in front of it and not worry about anything going on in the other groups.

"We're not interested in the past, even if it is our past," he said. "That was a long time ago by any measure of time. We're focused on the present day."

Woodstock Mayor Claudia Alta was honoured prior to the game with a ceremony celebrating the end of social distancing requirements and the nationwide shut down related to the virus. However, Alta said she wasn't interested in celebrating.

"We lost hundreds of Woodstockers to this virus," Alta said. "Twenty-eight thousand lives were lost in Sarzonia. That's nothing to celebrate." Alta would not answer questions about her possibly vying for a presidential run on the Progressive Party ticket.
,
"Right now, I'm focused on trying to do the best job I possibly can for the people of Woodstock," she said. "As far as any national aspirations, that's not even a consideration."

The Inkopolis Times

SPORTS

SQUIDS WIN!

Squidroidia wins for the first time in international basketball, defeating Maccian 81-65

That Locharian overtime. Whatever expectations the Squidroidia Inklings of basketball were thinking when they arrived in Græntfjall were shattered, replaced by bigger and better ones. If they can play a competitive game of hoops against Lebran Jims and his Ginger Tiger posse, they can certainly win a game of basketball. And, as was expected, they eventually did. In game 2 of the 10 game IBC campaign, against Maccian.

What they didn't expect was how dominating they were. Sure they weren't the Banijan buzzsaw (We'll get to them later), but they would end up winning the game, the first basketball game broadcasted on SBN 1, by 16 points. Again, it wasn't the most dominating performance of the day, but Marie Peyton's team still looked pretty good against their opposition, obviously aided by their jumper focused offense. There were a few layups from the likes of Deb Neuville and Ulisse McGovern, but other than that they were laying down jump shots from midrange and beyond the stripe. With this win, the Squidroidia Inklings get to 1-1 on the season so far, pushing up to 3rd place after results elsewhere in their group.

Like the Lochario game which went to overtime, the Maccian game was a big ratings draw for the Squidroidian Broadcasting Network. Although it didn't produce football sized numbers, the ratings have made the promise of basketball on terrestrial TV promising. The Squidroidian government hasn't responded on making a professional basketball league. However, they said that basketball was a "interesting" sport, and may be part of an official Olympic Team Squidroidia in the near future.

Elsewhere in the IBC:

  • The Red Group sees near upset causing Sannyamathaland crumble by 29 points against Nagore, while Equestria lose to Northwest Kalactin 66-88,
  • Lisander rise up to 2-0 after beating Terre Septentrionale, while Omerica do the same after beating Megistos 81-73,
  • Mellow Yellow occurs for Indusse, losing to Kohnhead by 4 points,
  • Central Shaneville's luck after the Quebec game runs out, losing to Sarzonia by 20 in the Green,
  • Ottomeme get close, but not close enough in the Blue Group, losing to Tikariot, while in the Game of the Matchday Drawkland throw down Delaclava 90-79,
  • The Banijan Buzzsaw has another victim, a matchday best 53 point annihilation of Rwekazaland, 115-62. Banija already has a +108 point differential in Matchday 2 in their Indigo Group, while Græntfjall win their game against Vkyta and SWEN win against Qasden,
  • The Violet Group sees TJUN-ia lose to Trolleborg 66-74, while West Phoencia record their first win against Zeta Reka,
  • And elsewhere in the Octarine, the Newmanistan Rockets nearly put 100 past Nova Anglicana and Lochario once again narrowly win, against HUElavia.

Squidroidia will hope to go 2-1 against Nova Anglicana. The small ball Lions have gone 1-1 so far in this tournament as well, defeating Maccian 94-61. The matchup is expected by many to end in a Squidroidian win, but the Lions have their case as well to trump the Inklings and go to 2-1 themselves. Only time, and the willingness of the national team, will decide who goes on top in this matchup.

Next opponent is Tikariot, another must win if the team wants to reach the play-offs.

“We will also take the entries from Tikarot into the Super Skill Contest into special ‘one-on-one defense’..”, grinned the coach Larissa Dewy, cracking her knuckles.

CENTRAL SHANEVILLE HUMBLED
You could cut the atmosphere with a knife in Sarzonia as Central Shaneville continued their group stage campaign and whilst the Trains were confident heading into the game they knew beating another Top 10 ranked team would be difficult back to back and the game was a difficult as the Stars were able to win by 20 once the final horn sounded.

The coach of Central Shaneville, Michael Shane, said the following post game "We can't fault the performance of Sarzonia they are a great team and deserve all the respect they have, we gave them a game in the first 2 quarters but ultimately they won however it was only by 20 regardless its back to training for us for our Halloween showdown with The Grealish Union."

The Grealish Union has the same record as Central Shaneville however a loss in the union's last game might have put a metaphorical dint in their confidence despite this Central Shaneville, at this point, aren't counting any team out in what is shaping up to be a very close group.

Role Reversal: SWEN beats world #9 in Basketball

Græntfjall - A nice performance from Steven Deagle saw the Pioneers/Frontiersmen break through with a win over a sluggish world #9 Qasden team. Deagle got 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assist to lead the team in the win. With Banija Torturing the rest of the field in the group, it looks like the Hosts and seemingly new SWEN sporting rival Græntfjall, could do some damage. But after the opener which saw match up issues galore for the Pioneers/Frontiersmen, SWEN's Hopes looked gloomy. A huge game lead by the Deagle brothers, changed that. We mentioned Steve but his brother is also doin well for himself. A key Bench player Joey came off the bench for some time and in a mere 15 minutes of play he obtained a stat-line of 7 pints, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, one of which was a nice, clean, from behind block. Hector Goncalvez also had a nice stat-line with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Overall this puts SWEN in a tie for third, but with the trashing the Pioneers/Frontiersmen from Banija, the Vykta team is ahead on point differential. Up next for the boys in blue and yellow are the host nation, Græntfjall. Græntfjall has become a rival of sorts in the world of football, but this will be the first time the two have played a game of basketball against each other.

"Dominant" Banijan showing leads Lions to quick 2-0 start at IBC 30

Image
A Banijan defender plays defense in their team's blowout victory over Southwest Eastnorth on Matchday 1

HAGEJOKI, GRAENTJFALL- Going into IBC 30, the Banijan basketball national team has one thing in mind- winning this tournament. In recent years, the national team has gotten so close so many times, it is almost disgusting. Look at the last four tournaments the national team has been in. We earned a fourth place finish at the AO Basketball Championships. We earned a silver medal in the last Commonwealth Games, which were in Istria. We earned a silver medal at the Olympic Games, also in Istria. And we earned a second place finish at IBC 29, which were just across the water in Equestria. So much almost. So much pain.

But the team says that they've put those past near misses out of their mind. "There is no use on dwelling about what might have been." Isaiah Lavaga, the Head Coach, told reporters. "What might have been is what might have been- it doesn't effect what is happening today, it will not effect what will happen tomorrow. The past is gone- the best way to react is to look back, learn your lessons, and keep moving forward." Lessons learned. Banija, in the biggest games, will have to learn how to finish better. But none of that matters at IBC 30. All we have is our ranking- #3 in the multiverse. We're in Pot 1.

We've got an interesting group. In IBC 29, we absolutely, going in, were placed into the group of death. Banija. Valladares. Equestria, who were the hosts. Delaclava, and Donnacona were in there as well. It was going to be a brutal fight to the finish. The Banijans used that as motivation and energy, to channel that into a 7-0 start, and earned a second place finish as the final record was 8-2. Our group is nowhere near as tough this time around. We functionally have four unranked sides- Southwest Eastnorth holds no ranking points. While Qasden, ranked 9th going in, looked tricky on paper at the time, it is a favorable group draw, even if we have to play the host nation, Græntfjall.

When the groups were drawn, Banija were the early betting favorites to win it, and two games in, it is looking good if you placed a bet on Banija to win the group. In the first two games, the Banijans not only won- but they thoroughly dominated their opponents. 50+ point wins to open the tournament sends a message to the rest of the tournament- that the team is strong, and the team is ready. It's a different look team than what we are used to. The core of the team for the last few tournaments, like Amadou Secka and Wassa Itraba, for example, have retired. The young Ezekiel Bullo has stepped up, alongside Labanzi Nabongo, to be a fearsome one-two punch.

We've scored 230 points in this tournament so far- more than anyone else in their first two games. When we asked the head coach to comment on that, he would not say much. "Look, you know I'm happy with the way that we've played so far. But it's only two games. Nothing's clinched it, we haven't won our group, nothing has been accomplished. Two good games in the group stages mean absolutely nothing unless we can add more wins to them." This upcoming Qasden game is a tricky one. Qasden has had a shockingly poor start to the tournament, and they're sitting at 0-2. But of course, on paper, they're much better than a potential 0-3 start.

Labanzi Nabongo spoke about that to the press. "Qasden is a much better team than they've shown thus far. They're in the top 10 for a reason. But right now, they're wounded and cornered. I expect them to come out against us guns a blazing. We must be ready for what they will bring to the table, and we will be ready for them. It's always a tough game when you're playing a Southwestern rival- and we must be prepared. If we take the foot off the gas, they will be ready to score an upset win and put us right back into our place. Let's go out and get a win."

After only two games, the group's biggest challenger to Banija's perch at the top of the Indigo group will be Græntfjall, the host nation. They are the other team in the group that is 2-0 so far. They're a scrappy, defensive squad that has leaned on its defense in their opening wins. And, of course, their home court advantage, which is loud and noticeable in this city outside the Græntfjall capitol. This team won't talk about the host nation's team though, focused solely on the challenge that Qasden will bring to them on Matchday 3.

A couple of players wished luck to the national gridiron team, who will participate in the World Bowl XL Final today against Cassadaigua. All eyes from Banija will be there, meaning there will be a lighter than usual Banijan attendance, and lower than usual Banijan ratings, at the game in Græntfjall. No matter- the basketball team will put their heads down and do what they came to do, and Nabongo said that they planned to watch a recording of the game as soon as their game with Qasden ended. "So don't tell us who won in the postgame." Nabongo joked.

As always, go Banija!

DROP IT DOWN!: Battle Of The 15s Isn't Sweet!

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Oct 30, 2020 10:14 am

After a tight win over Greater Kamilistan to kick off our IBC30 campaign, the Hoops-Jags were looking to show improvement in game 2 in Hofvinger, Graintfjall. New Head Coach Bao Zhou could take positives from the first game, but he knew the real early test would be game 2 - against Trolleborg, tied 15th with the Jaguars in the rankings. TJUN-ia and Trolleborg both made their sporting debut at the same time at BoF71, with TJUN-ia making the knockouts with only 1 win and Trolleborg winning the entire thing. Since then, these two nations have rarely met in international competition if at all, so this meeting is quite rare indeed. Bao knew that his opposite number, Hendrik Romeijnders, would want the same thing from this fixture: a statement win before the test against Valanora.

And so, tip-off came and began the tight game. To the dismay of many back home, hearts would be in stomachs as the team in blue and the team in green duelled on the court of North Wolf Bay. Two men would define this half for both teams: José Peñalez with his 14 points and Torstein Brass with his 12. The rest of the players also played their part in a game that ended up tied at the half - 50-all, to be exact.

Once the 2nd half began, the teams continued to be tight. No one team seemed to be the best on the night and it was looking like another Greater Kamilistan until the 4th Quarter when Roan Keano turned up to play. He came on with the game on a knife-edge, 60-all to be exact, when he came and scored all 14 points his country would score in the period. TJUN-ia tried to catch up with the pace, but Kasper Hendrix kept our offence quiet with only 6 points for the rest of the game. Make no mistake about it: this game belonged to Trolleborg.

Bao's first loss was a tough one to swallow, but he knew we must focus on what is at hand. We play two unranked sides in a row, beginning with West Phoenicia, where hopefully this team can bounce back and get some more wins on the board. GO JAGS!

Equestria 66–88 Northwest Kalactin
Wow! What a game. We came into this game expecting to probably lose, because Equestria is a very strong Pot 1 team that should have no trouble with us. We clearly didn’t let them push us around though, because we managed to pull the game out, and win by 22 points. We didn’t come in expecting to be the only 2-0 team in our group after Matchday 2 either, and because of this, the Kalactanians may be looking at a very good shot at a top seed. This win showed us what we are capable of, and if we can beat the Number 6 team in the world by 22, imagine what we can do to other strong Pot 1 teams.

Michael Hughes, who had a very rough first game for the Kalactanians, was able to rebound after Matchday 1, and come out with a 17-10 double-double for the Kalactanians, their first of the tournament so far. Josh Abbott also had a very strong shooting game today, as he managed to put up 22 points, with a perfect 4-4 3 point shooting record today. Abbott was also very strong on getting balls inside to our star players, Hughes and Sutton, Abbott was able to assist on 8 points from the paint today.

The game started out as a very strong one for the Kalactanian team, who was able to force many turnovers on the defensive side of the ball against the Equestrian team. Michael Hughes started out by playing lockdown defense on the Ponies. A pair of 3 point balls hit by Kalactanian sharpshooter Steven Stewart put them up 9-7, although it would be along battle many thought, as the Equestrian team would not give up quickly against the Kalactanians.

Towards the end of the first quarter, the Kalactanian defense started to see another breakdown. They were allowing many paint points to Event Horizon and Ariel Lenham. Michael Hughes had a very tough time trying to contain these two, and Jorge Sutton was simply not big enough to compete with these guys. When the Kalactanians were able to get back on offense though, they kept asserting their dominance, and would end up with 25 points by the end of the first quarter. After quarter one finished, the score was 25-22, Northwest Kalactin leading.

The second quarter was a sight to see for the Kalactanian defense, all those problems they had in the first quarter, seemed to randomly be gone. Michael Hughes was able to rack up 2 blocks on the Equestrian Power Forward Event Horizon, and Center Ariel Lenham was kept at bay. They also kept their offensive run up, putting up many bombs from 3 and being able to force many fouls in the paint so they could back out to the charity stripe.

With 4 minutes left in the second half, the score was a good 37-29 for the Kalactanian team. Then it started being floated up there, could this bunch of players beat the basketball powerhouse that is the Equestrian States? Well the Kalactanian team certainly thought so, they kept on putting up more scoring runs as the time went by, and by halftime were up 45-31. Jamarcus Floyd used his charm as a coach to fire up the Kalactanian team at halftime, and they came out of the first half with a newfound confidence they didn’t have in the last game.

Coming out, the Kalactanians continued to to play great, outside of an 8-0 run for the Equestrian team, all seemed well for the Kalactanians. Many 3 point shots hit by Josh Abbott would turn the Kalactanian lead into a much large one, and they would also benefit from many mid-range makes by Charlie Larson. Michael Hughes continued his dominance on both sides of the ball, especially in the paint. Hughes has always been a very special force for the team, but his rebounding and defensive skills that he put up during this game was just incredible. As the game raged on, it became more and more clear that the Kalactanians had a very good shot at winning the game. Score after the third quarter? 71-55

The 4th quarter would be a relatively silent one for both teams, as both teams would not score many points during this quarter while playing lockdown defense. Both teams looked very burnt out by the mid point of the 4th quarter, and the Kalactanian team had definitely earned this one. While it hadn’t been a miracle win like the last game against Sannymathaland, they would still manage to put up one of the best performances in National Team history, beating one of the best teams in the world, and setting theirselves up for a possible playoff run.

Postby Trolleborg » Fri Oct 30, 2020 4:12 pm

Casper Hoolteman discussed with his wife how to spend their next vacation for a long time. Three years ago they traveled to the north of Trolleborg and walked there in the snowy mountains, two years ago they took a sea kayak cruise around the southeastern tip of the Trolleborg subcontinent, last year they made a march through the jungle in the far south. In the country, meanwhile, gaining more and more popularity such things as combined trips – to visit some distant country and at the same time support Trolleborg teams in the international competitions. Although the Hoolteman couple can hardly be called basketball fans, the people of Trolleborg very often put the public good first, when it comes to the opportunity to support “their own”, and in addition, the option offered by Keith looked very exciting. According to the plan, the spouses were to arrive at Tikariot, see its sights, cross the border, and then the whole Graintfjall from end to end, move over to the venue of the matches, and then make a trip across the eastern half of Rushmore, ending it in Falkyr or Liventia. As it turned out, Keith sold this idea not only to Hooltemans, since here and there in the first half of the trip they met their compatriots, who were also heading from the south to north of Rushmore, and already on the ferry they began to meet those who were traveling in the opposite direction, from Liventia to Graintfjall and on to Tikariot or the countries to the west. Already standing on the upper deck in the crowd of fans waiting for disembarkation, Casper see strange thing: along the embankment there were literally throngs of people standing along the embankment and filming the arrival of the ferry. The answer what this mean turned out to be quite simple: after the arrival of the first batch of the Trolleborg fans, news about how picturesquely ferries looked like these days spread throughout the city and around, and its residents hastened to capture such an unusual picture themselves.

For accommodation, the spouses chose a family hotel, which looked more like a gingerbread house, and it turned out to be just that, but they had to postpone a detailed acquaintance for later, since they should have rushed to the game. The couple joined the “green river”, the traditional format for the movement of fans from Trolleborg to the stadium, at the very beginning, and walked the entire route, singing songs to the great pleasure of the locals, and closer to the stadium whole “river” passing by a large crowd of TJUN-ia fans, exchanged friendly clapping and singing with them.

At the match, the fans also observed the rules of politeness, during the breaks they chanted in turns, and at the end of the game, despite the dramatic denouement, they applauded each other. You don't even need to look at the statistics of social networks to confidently assume that the friendly contacts between the residents of TJUN-ia and Trolleborg have expanded significantly after this game.

Casper and his wife, although they were not avid fans before this match, lost their voice, supporting their own, but although the neighbors on the podium offered to treat such a disease with beer, they limited themselves to hot tea to go after the game, and then a festive dinner at the hotel. They had an extremely interesting voyage ahead, and the only thing that worried was the question of whether there would be an opportunity to watch broadcasts of all the next matches in neighboring countries

And here we have it. 5 minutes before the game ends. The game is about to end. The score is reeling towards the Kriegiersien as they lead against the Hebitaka with a score of 81-75.

Domon is moving towards the basket. And a great pass all the way to Charan. And he shoots from there!! And it is a basket! Two more points for the Hebis. Great display of teamplay and passing from Charan and Domon. The game starts with the Score at 81-77.

The game continues as the Kriegiersien team charges forward. Sloan is looking like he is about to shoot. A great block from Deshmukh. But that is not it yet. The point forward Vivien grabs the ball and passes it back to Sloan. It looks like he is on to shoot. But wait. He did not shoot! He passed it to Bugezog. And the tall man shoots it from out of the three pointer circle. The two men Deshmukh and Robert who were busy blocking Sloan try their final trial. And a Basket!!! A three pointer basket!!! This game is going somewhere. The pressure falls to the Hebitaki once again. The score goes to 84-77.

The Hebitaki team is getting forward. Riona passes it to Domon. Domon swiftly gets the ball and throws it to Rai. Rai tries to shoot. And that goes all...... wait that was... a block!! Right when it looked like the team got a basket, Corbinian grabs the ball and luges towards the opposite basket. He passes the ball to Bugezog who throws it to Sloan who has already jumped up scores an alley oop! The crowd goes crazy. This match looks like registered completely by the Kriegiersien team. The score rises 87-77

And we have reached the final three minutes of the game. The ball is in the hands of Domon. He passes it to Rai. Who will Rai pass the ball? He stands their for a few seconds and throws the ball. And the ball.........goes in. It's in!! IT'S INN!!! A three pointer for the losing team! And this might prove for a turnover. The score increases 87-80.

The Game is heating up. And there is a pace play from the Kriegiersien team. They lunge forward and Donat shoots from outside the three pointer circle. But it struck the hoop and goes out. But it's Bugezog. He brushes the ball in with a jump before the opponents could even give a proper sight at it. And this gives them two more points. The score stands at 89-80.

Hebitaka looks like they have alrea...... that's a score. Sheer suddenness from Domon as he rushes to get a three pointer basket within ten seconds. Amazing Pace. The score changes 89-83.

The teams are just having a difference of 6 points now. The Kriegiersien team moves forward. But before Corbinan could even realize, the ball reaches Rai's hands. It's a Rebound!! But looks like the Kriegiersien team would not let them score this time. Charan swiftly passes it to Riona who then gives it to Robert. Robert shoots the ball for a three pointer but it does not go in. And as soon as possible Charan reaches for the ball. But he passes it to Robert again, as Chanran himself is surrounded by the opponents. Robert passes it to Domon who throws the ball to the net for a scoree!!!! Wait. The score does not count!! The game had already been stopped when Robert was passing the ball to Domon, as the time limit of 30 seconds was reached. And the game score remains 89-83.

The final 30 seconds. The Hebitaki teams must be quicj enough for two rebounds and scoring with an average of 15 second for each basket both being a three pointer. Bugezog moves forward and tries to pass it to Donat. But the pass was intercepted by Robert who deflects the ball to Charan who passes it to Domon. But the shot got missed. And Robert quickly went close to give another shot. But it was blocked by Corbinian, who passes the ball to Sloan. Sloan dribbles forward and passes it to Bugezog. With a few seconds remaining, Bugezog shoots from the point he was standing. And it goes in!! It's another Three pointer. 92-83 is where the score stands.

And that is it. All the time is up. And the result, as expected was the Kriegiersien victory over Hebitaka with a score of 92-83.
The blue group stands in a phase where the winning team Kriegiersien wins the second game to be in the second right next to Drawkland differentiated on the basis of point difference, while the losing team Hebitaka is in the bottom of the table, for whom the first victory is yet to come.

MD3 cutoff, with information about how Halloween will be celebrated in Græntfjall.

Halloween in Græntfjall is a popular holiday. Græntfjaller celebrations reflect the mix of Catholic and Norse Pagan religious heritage of the country, as well as a heavy dose of commercialization and foreign, mainly Rushmori, influences.

Horror movies are highly popular in Græntfjall and there will be viewing parties for classics such as The Lake Viljan Slasher or Alps of the Living Dead, or many of the ‘creature features’ churned about by Háttmark’s famous Mjölnir studios.

The phenomenon of ‘trick-or-treating’ is less established. Halloween falls during the Græntfjaller winter and it is usually too cold and dark for children to go out. Families will visit family graves and leave candles, flowers, wreaths, and small trinkets. Costume parties tend to be strictly indoor affairs.

Costumes include figures from Norse legend such as Thor or Freyja; in recent years Sleepy, a ‘pony’ version of Sleipnir, has been a popular choice. Slasher killers or monsters from Græntfjaller or foreign films. Græntfjall does not have a native vampire tradition (the frozen ground would be too hard for them to break out of!) but vampire lore from foreign countries has taken off in recent years.

Pumpkins are not grown in Græntfjall. Halloween foods are usually vegetarian, reflecting the Catholic spirit of fasting. Spicy vegetable stews and soups are traditionally eaten as warming food ahead of an evening of witch-burning (today, slightly more placidly, burning stuffed witches made of bundled newspaper or dry straw). Decorative cookies and cakes are shared as snacks. Græntfjaller stores will often have a ‘Halloween’ aisle around this time, selling suitably branded foreign goods.

Luck isn't with us!

The Indussean Basketball team loses again the group stage of IBC30. This time Indusse lost to Valladares, who are currently the group toppers. Valladares is the only team in the group who hasn't lost any game. Indusse is lucky though, as they have Ethane who is last as they had won the first game played. Ethane played first with Indusse and lost and the unluck is following them till now... This time Indusse lost to Valladares for a margin of twenty-five points. That's the largest margin till now! Ethane v Chromatika was the most interesting match this day. Both the teams tied for a score of eighty-one and at the extra time Chromatika got ninety-four points to blast off Ethane. Chromatika is currently second in the group. Kohnhead is just behind Chromatika and is trying hard to reach the top. Indusse and Abanhleft I having almost the same points and stats so the next match decides who gets promoted to the next position. The Yellow Group is really a great one with tough matches and suspense.
When the whole of Graintjfall was celebrating Halloween, the Indian themed nation of Indusse doesn't celebrate Halloween as a official festival. Halloween celebrations have been limited to the Southern Coasts of Indusse and some small communities in the north. The All saints Day is a public holiday for Indusseans.

Elsewhere Sarzonia are emerging as favorites to win the group as Central Shaneville and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec continue to fight out 2nd place in the group after the two sides were victorious in their respective games.

Central Shaneville's game started off quickly and an early lead was established, a Grealish Union fightback started to show itself late in the 3rd quarter however Central Shaneville held on as Zlatan Ekstrom put the game to bed with a massive slam dunk, the Trains winning the day by 14 points in what ended up being a very good game according to media outlets and fans a like.

The coach of Central Shaneville, Michael Shane, even went onto say "They were a good team but in the end we got the job done and thats all I can ask from the boys, we move on as do our opponents and we wish them the best of luck going forward."

Ezekiel Bullo, Press Conference after the Qasden Game

Ezekiel Bullo, the team's small forward, spoke to reporters after the team's 91-72 over Qasden to keep the team in third place in the Indigo Group.

Istria Times: Ezekiel, Banija and Qasden were scrapping for a while, having a tight game throughout the first half, and going into the break tied at 48 points a piece. But then you guys had a massive third quarter to bury Qasden, outscoring them 27-7. What happened in the third quarter to bring about your offensive explosion?

Ezekiel Bullo: Well, like we said before the game. Qasden is the 9th ranked team in the multiverse, and they had started 0-2. They weren't going to let us get an easy one. They've got too much pride to just slip to 0-3 just like that. So the first half was what many expected it to be before this tournament- a battle between a pair of heavyweights.

But we came out in third quarter with a different strategy, and were able to make a great run. Coach Lavaga was on us at halftime- we should run, and play the transition game. I don't have the number, but we were able to get out on the break fast. We put pressure on their guards in the halfcourt, and the 1-3-1 is a very effective defense against a team like this. We were also able to connect on our jumpers on the offensive end, which opened up all kinds of space. We were up 75-55 at the end of third quarter, already in blowout territory.

Istria Times: Ezekiel, you led your team in scoring today, putting up 25 points, and also having 7 boards and 4 assists. What do you think of your own performance today?

Ezekiel Bullo: You're asking me to be my own critic, eh? Laughs. Well, I'm happy with the performance of the team. I try to do what I can to help the team win, and we came out and got the win today. Coach Lavaga says there are always four goals, in descending importance, for the group stages of a tournament like this, where you've got a long group stage and then winner-take-all knockout stage games.

The first goal, is qualify for those knockout stages. No matter what you do, that's why we're here. Getting our third win from three games takes us closer towards that goal. The second goal, is finding our team chemistry and figuring out our best lineups. That's what we're in the process of doing. We've done well in our first few games, but against the bottom half of the group. Vykta, who are 2-1, will give us a spirited challenge on Matchday 4, and Matchday 5 against the hosts will be a fun environment.

The third goal, is to win the group. You don't have to win the group to make a run- we didn't last time, and we still made the Final. But it certainly makes life easier. And the fourth goal, is to get yourself as high a seed as possible. Those are the four goals, in descending order. We're making progress towards all four. Our win today gets us closer to all four goals, and for that I am happy.

Herzegovina City Eagle: Ezekiel, can you speak about the next game? What challenges do Vykta present?

Ezekiel Bullo: Vykta is 2-1. They scored a 35 point victory in Matchday 3, which shows their ability to get up and down the court. They may be unranked, but they are certainly a formidable opponent. They're a little smaller, but that ability to play small ball makes them quick. They've got some shooters as well. The 1-3-1 is designed to close out those wings and those shooters, and we're going to have to play that extremely well.

Busukuma Post: Ezekiel, one last question. Which Super Skills Contest will you enter?

Ezekiel Bullo laughs before answering: Of course the slam dunk contest! It's a cool idea from Græntfjall to have one of these- we'll all get an opportunity to show our best stuff. But if you think I'm gonna miss a slam dunk contest, then you've never met me at all.

Bullo, having gotten everyone to laugh and in good spirits, finished the press conference, and then left to go ice his legs. He knew that Matchday 4 would be a big one, against an opponent that would bring everything they had at the Lions. He would need to be ready...

SPORTS

DOUBLE UP IN ALTENDALUR

Squidroidia basketball team wins 2nd straight game in the IBC, preparing for a do or die game against the defending world champions

Nova Anglicana headed into their 3rd IBC game in Græntfjall hoping for a 2-1 start to the campaign. Of course, getting 2-1 is no easy task no matter what sport is played in Nova Anglicana (Unless it is baseball, which is one of their strong suits). Anglicanan head coach Jonathan Stephens was not, however, treated to a lollipop for winning a game. Squidroidia, like what they did against Maccian, won the game against the Lions handedly, 77-63.

Altendalur is a hard working city, let's not beat around the bush, and the Inklings, from the overtime game to kick it all off to now, have worked hard for this moment, shining among the stars in Græntfjall and playing some really good hoops while they're at it. It was a standout performance for Ryley Dufour, the 20 year old squid showing the Lions that small ball isn't always the answer in the war that is basketball, breaking down their defense and aiding McGovern, Peyton and Wruck in dropping down buckets from 2 or 3 point range. Although the likes of Stephens and LaPointe had something to say for their Lions side, it wasn't enough, and Squidroidia won by 14 points.

This puts the Squidroidia Inklings in 3rd place, same as it was in Matchday 2, although this can change on a dime next matchday, when the Squidroidia Inklings have to face the defending world champions of basketball, the Newmanistan Rockets. 3 time world champions. 17 games undefeated heading into this matchup. They just ripped the pants out of Lochario by 50 fucking points. Squidroidia are huge underdogs heading into this game against Newmanistan, what with their intense focus on long shots longer than the distance from this line of text to the start of the very front page of this newspaper. You know, the one that has Higa Takanori talking about something that has to do with the economy? Yeah, I barely remember it either.

Elsewhere in the IBC:

  • Equestria respond to the Kalactin loss by defeating Juvencus 83-76,
  • Omerica are handed their first loss of the season against Lisander... By 35 points,
  • 2 overtime games occur, in the Yellow it is Chromatika who upset Ethane 94-88,
  • And in the other overtime game in the Violet it is Valanora who defeat Trolleborg 100-95,
  • Central Shaneville once again win a game of basketball, while Sylestone drop 69 points (nice) on Quebec... Who score 100,
  • Delaclava just edge Hebitaka again, while Drawkland and Kriegiersien both go 3-0,
  • The Banijan Buzzsaw hits a 19 point snag against Qasden but still wins, while the hosts comfortably beat Southwest Eastnorth,
  • Zeta Reka and Hügeltaldom score their first win against Greater Kamilistan,
  • And elsewhere in the Octarine, Maccian just barely upset HUElavia, 80-78.

We're losing to Newmanistan, are we? At least everyone is going to see us fall back down to earth!

Blue group news

Kriegiersien 72–52 Tikariot

After the match a lot of shouting emerged in the Kriegiersien changing room. Yet it wasn’t the howl of triumph, but the coaches yelling angry at their players.
On the press conference coach Wedgehog got more specific.
“Bugezog made three pointers again. Like against Hebitaka. I did forbid him that. And he still did it. Three pointers! He should train Slam Dunks! Just stuffing the ball into the basket. Johnathon does the three pointers! They have to stick to the tactis and not do what they want. Except Anakoni Corbinian and Ivory Fire, who need to show crazy stuff.”

But it was another needed victory before the crunch time begins. Now first with Drawkland, the absolute top favourite in the group and elephant in the room, that everyone assumes to be unbeatable in the group, before with Delaclava the apparently real opponent for the second place shows up.
Image

But Kriegiersien has beaten Drawkland before, at the last IBC, when the women’s team surprised them in the group stage. Granted, a more or less B-Team from Drawkland that won the second match against the men’s team later.

Women’s coach Larissa Dewy tried to be optimistic:
“Maybe it will work again. Normally we are playing with a mixed team this IBC and I wasn’t the coach at the time, but I called my predecessor and fetched me some tips. The girls will try to repeat the upset.”

Before their IBC campaign started, Walter, the national team's consultant, was reminiscing his experiences when he was just starting to build his team, playing in the 17th IBC tournament. It was a team of misfits and some of his colleagues in his supermarket business. They however performed well, finishing 8-2 in their Casaran stage, before unceremoniously dropped from the tournament by The Royal Baranagay and The Sword Bloke. Despite that, the nation he coached, known as Hispania y Filipinas, celebrated the feat like there was no tomorrow. In the next edition though, the team had only one win against five losses.

The team reappeared in the 24th edition after Walter decided not to enter the next five editions due to lack of support from the government. Despite winning their last game against Free Republics, their 4-6 win loss record was not enough to put them past the group stages. Another five editions then passed, and when the new monarchy of Hisipinas took over, many of the old Hispino-Filipino people either were exiled or executed, including all of Walter's players. He saw the execution of Inocencio, his budding star player, with his own eyes, and his life was only spared when he agreed to switch his allegiance to the new government in exchange of him being the consultant emeritus of the team. In addition, he is not allowed to mention anything about his past coaching experiences with the old nation due to the censorship implemented by the monarchy which will cause the offender to be executed the very next day.

With the team losing heavily to semifinalists of last edition, Equestria, the Hispinos would not be expected to win any games in the Red group. This is exacerbated by the fact that all the quirks the consultant did not want to see in the team eventually came out. Only Cergio Arebalo is the reliable player they had, and he was even benched in the entire fourth quarter when the score became as lopsided as it could be. He instructed Alfredo Esteban to bench him for the rest of the game, as they are much aware that he is very injury prone, but questions would be raised on why he was even selected to participate in the skills challenge despite this. It would be the player's demands to put him in the skills challenge.

In Walter's mind, there is no pressure for the players as the monarchy knows that this is just a stopgap measure for the task force led by Manolito Padron to professionalize the sports in Hispinas. However, he wanted Alfredo to convince the players to perform better as he sees the Cebuenas based coach to be a good fit in the national team setup. It would prove the case as they won their next games against Juvencus and Sannyamathaland. Another test in Northwest Kalactin awaits and he can just hope for the players to pick up whatever they left off in those past two games.
