Due to legal circumstances beyond our control and a number of undesired accidents involving transdimensional travel, we have been forced into the creation of this here page in order answer any of the multiverse's possible inquires, questions, and comments regarding the Swamp Gang, Wuchu, and related entities.

The Other Place's generous universal fabric has allowed us to host a Questions and Answers thread which should be reachable by all known dimensions, universal and pocket alike. Morality's fuckin' gay, dude. Ethics is a bunch of guys jerking each other off. I'm not going to pretend I care to or wish to make any humanistic ought statements, and like with most of the stuff I write, my interpretation of ethics and morality is primarily critical in nature.

Of course, I'm not oblivious to the fact that virtues, values, and judgements have a causal impact on lives of others and their actions - I express this sentiment in my anti-politicism, too.

I personally believe I ought to create myself. If a demon were to wake me one night, and tell me that I'm going to relive this life over and over again, and there's fuck-all I can do about it, I want to have a life I want to relive over and over again. That's my ethics. Where that takes me - or you - is up to creation.

Heya Kotera.

Honestly this is more of a me to you sorta question rather than anything directed towards your un-organization as a whole but hey, I felt it was only reasonable to ask the philosopher about philosophy.
The most I can boil it down to is- do you feel like using technology to alter the mind is a bit of a cheat? Well I guess technology is a bit too narrow considering how many damn things people have put under that umbrella word these days. I'm talking about really anything that could be considered 'material' being used or potentially abused to achieve a desired effect within one's consciousness _{or equivalent}. Psychoactive substances, reality-bending, prickly electrical brain needles, the lot. Many folk use it as justification to hide away in the corner of their mental lockboxes and live through worlds without material consequence. To you are these people truly living or is this just another passage of mindless hedonism, or perhaps it is something else entirely? Looking forward to hearing back.

Hiya fellow anon,

Schopenhauer understood the broader world as two things: things-of-themselves, which he called "will", and the stuff we actually perceive, which are but representations of said wills. Further, he went on to write this, in his Freedom of the Will:

By wine or opium we can intensify and considerably heighten our mental powers, but as soon as the right measure of stimulus is exceeded, the effect will be exactly the opposite.

In other terms, we can identify this as the Apollonian-Dionysian dichotomy: the state of enlightenment and the state of intoxication. Schopey only lists alcohol and opium here, but I think this can be extended to what you've listed, too, particularly psychedelics, 'dream states' of reality-bending, and anything else that induces an altered state of mind. Stimulants, overall, are a very useful tool.

There's plenty of silly hippies and New Age bullshitters, spiritualist scams who push the idea of "opening your third eye" through things like LSD, but like with fascists, there's some truth to their madness. Ayahuasca and peyote, for example, are very famously used by indigenous peoples to communicate with spirits and pass on their wisdom to others.

In a more 'civilised' example, there's an interesting theory that Asia was so much more advanced in philosophy - Taoists were talking about human liberation and social emancipation when the Frenchies were still living in mud huts - than Europe specifically because the effects of native opium were stimulating and slow to work, in contrast to the depressive and quick-acting effects of alcohol.
I'm unsure of this theory, because we can look to the Greek concept of theia mania (divine madness), which is basically what we're discussing here, and see that even in European cultures the idea of using altered states of mind to philosophise was present.

But as Schopey says, excess in stimulus will get you shit-fucked. In shamanistic faiths, the position of the shaman is very respected; one needs to train and understand the potency of the respective plant before becoming a shaman. These cultures have interacted with it for generations - we should listen to them when they say "don't do too much". Indeed, we now know that drug abuse is a one-way road to permanent psychosis and developing schizophrenia.

So to end this and actually answer your question, I do indeed see it as "truly living", and personally, I've played around with altered states of minds plenty of times to the point where I can confidently say that it does work. Of course, as we've pointed out, excess and abuse aren't anything to fuck around with, and we should be very careful when we view these altered representations of the will, but, as long as we understand and respect it, we can achieve enlightenment unobtainable through sober reason.

TL;DR: dream, don't abuse.

Three for the price of one, aye? What a deal! Never say that the Swamp Gang is a scam.

I'm personally quite alright, although the rest of the gang isn't doing too great. Seasonal allergies, y'know. One of the downsides of rewilding is that all the stuff that's leftover from civoids gets stuck, so our undomestication is a bit... tough on some. Plus there's this issue with some Macbeths getting all uppity about no longer having bidets, or whatever.

As for our neighbours... well, there aren't many friendly faces around. Our closest allies are the Psychotics - you might like 'em, actually - over the waters. They mostly mind their own business, but we've organised a few joint parties and missions here and there. Some of the best dancers you'll ever meet, honestly. Good opium, too. There are also a number of splinters from Swamp Gang Prime, some friendlier than others. Some ancoms there, some larpers over there. The biggest ones are the Amurites down south, Bogurodzica to the southwest, Antirepublicans to the west - right next to Psychotics, actually - and the Spartans to the east. Plenty of loners everywhere, too, and like with most individuals, they're largely unpredictable. A few of them just hang around us for safety, or because they're Crypto-Wuchuans who don't join out of principle, or whatever.

Far away in Siberia there's a number of indigenous tribes, who mostly get fucked by Eastern Polity, and the same is true for the far-north European isles, who likewise get fucked by Central. Saami especially tend to be an easy target.

As for our enemies, well. Throw a dart on the map and I can name at least 20 different groups who want us dead there. You don't start a messianic age without cracking a few eggs. Or, er, electric transformers. Or car engines. Well, anyway. Central and Eastern Polity are the main two players, as you know. There's also Der Katastrophestaat, or as Pentti calls them, "European Union 3: This Time It's Personal", but they're largely irrelevant to us, since we tend to stick to the overground. We mostly run into them during scavenger hunts and when exploring old bunkers, though they're recently trying to also expand into a number of our metro tunnels, so we might end up being professional enemies at some point. Yaniv doesn't like them, in any case, for whatever reasons. Other than those three, it's mostly the un-fun kind of bandits and old-world loyalists. The Chekists, the Scorpions, and the New Chetniks are the biggest of the loyalist groups but they're far away enough for us to have the joy of not having to care too much about them. Over in Mediocre Britain is a bunch of Restorationist gangs who want to put their own men on the throne, and there's probably a bazillion of other groups down in the Equatorial Deserts - though, funnily enough, they tend to be the least of our issue; mostly pastoralists and nomads like yourself. Turns out resource scarcity makes for good peace, and it's actually resource exploitation that's the issue.

And, for your third question, the answer is a definite yes; the gang's always happy to get some good carbs in them, and Macbeth's especially are keen on expanding their menu. Patyu's welcome to come over with you, by the way, if you ever find a strange-looking rock or see a couple of suspicious trees on the horizon. Georgi would be very excited to talk about culinary delights with him, and maybe steal a couple of recipes from the ancients.
