LCNA: Langenia Holds Nuclear and Missile Tests! [OPEN]

This was the justification of the Langenian military leadership as they started Operation Fatherland Defense. Knowing that from the charter of the United Nations Langenia has the RIGHT to develop weapons and practice for its self-defense, today the Langenian Revolutionary Armed Forces carried out Operation Fatherland Defense, a series of nuclear and missile tests across the country. In the Sechura Desert, around the southwestern Langenian city of Lima, ICBMs emerged from their silos and arced down into the west Pacific Ocean after flying thousands of miles. The ICBM launches simulated nuclear strikes and counterstrikes on enemy nations.

Mushroom clouds also spread out over the desert, one north of Lima, another south of Lima.

On the other side of Langenia, ICBMs were launched east of the city of Caracas, arcing down thousands of miles away into the North Atlantic.

In the Andes mountain range, a series of underground nuclear tests were conducted in a network of tunnels.

Langenia also practiced using its tactical and theatre ballistic missiles. Launchers based out of Cartagena, Manaus, and Aragon struck practice targets in Bogota, Caracas, and Cuzco.

"We shall continue to practice defending the fatherland, including using these measures. It is our right and nothing shall change that," said Colonel Jose Diaz, a military spokesperson, speaking to reporters in the Ministry of National Defense building in Aragon. The Supreme Leader and President of Langenia Nicolas Furia hailed Operation Fatherland Defense in a speech, declaring "that none shall defeat Langenia. The fatherland has us, ready, willing to defend it." This is the Langenian Central News Agency.

As of yesterday, the Grand Republic of Langenia, a country covering most of the northern part of the South American subcontinent, has successfully tested several atomic weapons in and around its territory as well as tested the potential capability of attacking overseas targets by missiles. This adds another nation with the ability to cause mass destruction and terror anywhere in the world. Langenia is also close to the United Commonwealth Canal Zone of Panama, an United Commonwealth-administered but internationally open area for the freedom of passage and navigation through the main isthmus of the American continent.

We fear that these weapons will be used to stop peaceful commerce and travel in the Canal Zone, the Caribbean, and the Eastern Pacific and coerce other nations in the hemisphere to serve an authoritarian regime. The United Commonwealth is opposed to any attempt to coerce other nations in this hemisphere or the other by means of massive atomic destruction. The NAU, a member of the United Commonwealth in America, officially protests against these tests and is joined by other members of the United Commonwealth condemning these tests.

Furthermore, the United Commonwealth will consider all possible options to ensure the liberty and security of the Canal Zone, the Caribbean, and the Eastern Pacific, and the larger Western Hemisphere. We encourage a peaceful solution to this situation as it benefits both nations and the whole world and we hope both sides can come to the negotiating table.

Dear sir,

we have noticed that your nation and its allies have condemned the recent developments in our country of Operation Fatherland Defense and fears a halt to commerce through the Panama Canal. In order to deescalate any tensions from the recent tests, we would like to emphasize that the tests are PURELY DEFENSIVE IN NATURE. We have no intention of using our missile arsenal to threaten our fellow countries in the Americas for our own ends, and WILL NOT, we repeat, WILL NOT attempt to interrupt civilian traffic through the Canal Zone, as this would only serve to hurt all of our brethren in the Americas, including ourselves.

STATEMENT FROM THE NORTH AMERICAN LEGATION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF LANGENIA REGARDING THE LATEST MISSILE TESTS AND THE UC RESPONSE

His Britannic Majesty's North American Government, after consultation with the other member governments of the United Commonwealth, have discussed over the last two days a proposal to the Government of Legenia regarding its missile and atomic tests. The North American legation and minister to Langenia shall represent the NAU and the UC in this matter.

The proposal is the following:
1) A memorandum of understanding between His Britannic Majesty's North American Government, representing the United Commonwealth and itself in this matter, and the Government of Langenia, that halt further weaponized atomic and missile tests for the foreseeable future in Langenia and the United Commonwealth will not put not sanctions on the Government of Langenia for such tests unless they continue.
2) Encouragement of alternate sources of energy and peaceful application of nuclear energy in Langenia.
3) Promotion of non-proliferation in the Western hemisphere with gradual reduction of atomic weapons of both Langenia and the United Commonwealth* and the accession of Langenia to an international non-proliferation agreement.

*The United Commonwealth itself (the worldly supranational organization and personal union) technically has the nuclear weapons, but it is de facto controlled by the dyad of the NAU and the United Kingdom, so the two have separable arsenals but strong coordination and civilian control over them and thus both control the offensive nuclear policy of the United Commonwealth.

While we recognise the inherent right of Langenia to defend itself from outside threats, we are against the possession of WMDs by Langenia. Langenia, with its current capabilities is a threat to Commonwealth territory and subjects of the Crown, namely those residing in the British Overseas Territories of the British Caribbean, British South Atlantic territories, or worse, Commonwealth member states such as Australia and New Zealand and other Commonwealth pacific territories.

Therefore, we within Her Majesty’s Kawanese Government, under our rights as an equal member state of the British Commonwealth, lodge a protest along with other Commonwealth member states and self-governing Overseas Territories against Langenia and its fruitless pursuit of WMDs which may hinder commerce and foreign relations between the country and the outside world. British Commonwealth countries will also make a written protest at the United Nations against Lagenia's actions, and other British Commonwealth countries will lobby the United Kingdom, our sole nuclear power and permanent UNSC member to ensure the security of Her Majesty’s Realms and Territories from a country that may be inches away from being a rogue state.
