”It is said that Attica was the seat of the gods when they walked this world. That it was here that they first shaped the land and sculpted man from the clay of flesh. When the gods left, their chosen people inherited the land. The land they named Attica, after Atius the king of gods. They are the Atticans, masters of their own fate and servants of none.”

-Dyson, Recorda

INTRODUCTION
This is a pseudo-historical RP set in a fantasy realm based off of real life Greece/Peloponnese. It takes elements from the Classical and Hellenistic periods in Greek history. Attica, as the region is named, is broken into various provinces and city states centered around the Serranean Sea. The Atticans coexist in an uneasy state as they have for centuries now. Never has there been a major war or schism across the realm, and yet it can hardly be called unified. House rivalries, decades old feuds, and political and trade disputes assure that the Attican people have always remained disunited. Now lack of collectivism and unity may prove to be the fall of the Atticans.

From across the sea comes a threat that Attica has never faced the likes of. This threat is the Quasyrid empire. Ruled by the iron hearted King Albors I, the Quasyr have crushed all who have opposed them. Discontent with letting any mortal man live from under his thumb, Albors' armies even now march west for the coastlands. From there they will sail the Archanean Sea and thus will begin the invasion of Attica. But Albors is not a man without honor, for even as his armies ready for war emissaries have been sent to the lords and leaders of Attica. Those who submit will be allowed a place among his empire, welcomed as his newest subjects. Those who defy will be crushed, their bones ground into the dirt, their sons sold as slaves and their daughters made whores for his army. As the coming horde looms on the horizon, the men of Attica must make their choice, submit and survive, or defy and die.

In this RP, players will create a single city state and must harrow the Quasyrid campaign of Attica, which will be long and bloody to say it flatly. The RP will be broken into four chapters. The first chapter is based around preparation for the coming storm; forming alliances and pooling resources as well as "picking a side" as it were. Do you stand with your fellow Atticans and face the towering foe before you or do you bow to King Albors and aid in suppressing your insurgent countrymen? The second chapter is based around the arrival of the horde and the opening battles of the campaign. There will be a massive battle "halfway through" the RP which ends with the opening of the third chapter, the final battles and skirmishes to bring the war to an end. The final chapter is effectively an epilogue where myself and the players will write out the finale and and the fate of Attica and its people.

Below you will find a map of Attica, a detailed summarization of the Quasyrid empire and their king, the pantheon of the Attican gods and the mythology of the origins of Attica and it’s people. As well as the rule outline and the application. If you have any questions, concerns, or grievances, voice them away!

Forged from a single great city known as Kazhmere, the Quasyrid empire spans the breadth of the four winds. From the eastern oceans to the northern mountains and the farthest southern plains and onward to the westward horizon. It’s wealth is boundless, the Quasyrid people toil and labor to please their king and bring prosperity to the empire. Though in truth, one might say the Quasyrid people’s only purpose in life is to toil and labor under the watchful gaze of King Albors and his regents.

Image

A man without mercy, Albors I built his empire on conquest and pillage. Those who kneel to him may claim reward and favor, while those who do not face hardship and suffering. Entire cities have been sacked and its people enslaved because of kings who would not relent even as Albors’ wrath battered down their walls. Whole villages have been “purified”, the men castrated and the women raped and bred by “men with strong Quasyrid blood” because of murmurs of rebellion or discontent. Entire tribes and houses have surrendered their sovereignty to King Albors simply on seeing the horrors he commits on those that must be pacified by force.

King Albors' greedy gaze looks westward now, to the fertile, rich lands of Attica. He has heard much of the people of this land, of their diversity and their disunity as a whole. This lack of union is a strategy which he intends to ploy to his advantage as his emissaries hail the city states and their leaders. But even if aggressive diplomacy and subterfuge fail him, King Albors' army is more than capable of crushing the Atticans should they resist his will. Though Albors' would rather avoid this as a charred, ashen wasteland of ruins void of life is not worthy of his kingdom.

OOC: The Quasyrid (Kah-seer-id) empire is loosely inspired from the Persian empire under King Xerxes I and the Seljuk Turks (roughly around the battle of Manzikert). Culturally, politically, and societally it mirrors Persia while it's military tactics and units are derived from those of the Turks. The Quasyrid empire in regards of landmass is roughly the size of Turkey, Iraq, and Syria combined. It's capital, Kazhmere (Kaz-sh-mere), is the largest population center in the empire and in fact the only major city. It is a vast, burgeoning metropolis surrounded by villages, farm hamlets, mining and plantation colonies, and trade posts. Kazhmere itself from the royal quarter to the slums hosts over one million people, including slaves of course. The various settlements across the kingdom at best are populated short of one thousand.

The empire is a conglomerate of people; assimilated and conquered tribes and minority ethnicities ruled over by the mass majority Quasyr (Kah-seer). King Albors I is a proud pureblood Quasyr, son of King Ardashir II and Bahar. The empire is an absolute monarchy ruled solely by it's king with there being no queens nor any sort of democratic voice. Albors' father had four wives in total, and Albors' has a sister and three half-sisters all of whom were given as wives to his generals. Albors has two wives of his own and two sons by his first wife. While lacking any official councel Quasyrid kings typically have a retinue of advisors they keep close at hand, and since the expansion of his empire Albors has established regency positions which are granted to only his most trusted generals.

There is effectively no recognizable nobility presence in Quasyrid government, at least not anymore. There was once a council of nobles and a merchants guild, but on the day of his ascension to king thirty years ago Albors had the council and guild rounded up in a dramatic fashion and killed in a mass execution the palace square and declared the king's word as absolute and undisputable. While there is free trade and commerce in his empire, Albors ensures that no man become too wealthy. His tax collectors hawk every street and avenue and have informants planted among the people. Even the farthest villages do not escape his eyes.

The Quasyrid armies stand at nearly four hundred thousand strong and are commanded by seasoned generals who are fanatically loyal to their king. As far as unit diversity goes Quasyrid armies typically make use of heavy infantry with supporting light infantry and makes great use of horse archery. Heavy Quasyrid infantry, typically spearmen and axe warriors will blitz and batter the enemies' front lines using both their numbers and force to bully their way through while light infantry cover the flanks and bring up the rear. Horse archers will circle and shower the enemy with hailstorms of arrows and occasionally employ hit and run melee attacks to draw out enemy defenders. While strategically adaptable, this prior strategy is typically go-to as it were.

If you have any further questions about the Quasyrids HMU.

ATIUS (At-eeh-us)
The god of kings, leadership, nobility, and king of Morbatur. He is depicted as having broad shoulders and a long flowing beard and hair and a piercing hawkish face. It was he that first forged mankind, and then molded the first Atticans from cuts of his own flesh. It is said proudly among the people that the blood of Atius runs through their veins. Atius is associated with kings, lords, heroes, honor, and pride. His symbols are a lightning bolt, a roaring lion, and a curled fist. People pray to him for guidance, courage, and moral guidance.

SYNTRO (Sin-tro)
The wife of Atius and goddess of fertility, the hearth, spring, birth, and life. She is the patron goddess of mothers and wives and embodies tenderness and care as well as fertility and life. Many farmers pray to her for bountiful harvests and green pastures and healthy children. She is depicted as tender with a warm smile and a soft form and long, lush curly hair. Symbols associated with her are laurel wreaths, snakes, and oak trees.

HYDRO (Hi-dro)
Brother of Atius and the god of storms, the seas, and all life beneath them. Hydro is depicted like is brother Atius as a broad, majestic man radiating of strength. Unlike his brother, his hair and beard are made of seaweed and his flesh is described as coarse and like the hide of a shark. He wields a trident and when angered uses it to stir and roil the seas and bring forth his fury and vengeance. Unlike his brother who is noble, Hydro is said to be a vicious and short tempered god. Jealousy and irrationality fill his being, and coastal cities, sailors, and fishermen pray to him to spare them from his wrath. Symbols associated with him are a trident, squid, and whales.

THANATOS (Thun-at-os)
Younger brother of Atius and Hydro, Thanatos is the god of death, judgment, and eternal punishment. Depicted as a tall, slim figure figure in a rolling black cloak and wearing an onyx helm baring the visage of a serpent. He rules the underworld and judges the dead, deciding if they are worthy for the pleasures and paradise of Mount Morbatur. Those who are deemed unworthy are cast into the black fires and chains of the underworld. None pray to Thanatos nor will any city choose him as their patron god. Any sort of worship or reverence of him is seen as taboo and wicked. Despite this, small cults of Thanatos do exist. Those who believe a wicked life can be lived and any reverence shown to the black god will grant them his favor or pardon. Symbols associated with him are skulls, scorpions, and ravens.

ILIOS (Ill-ee-os)
Son of Atius and Syntro and god of the sun. Depicted as a handsome, muscular young man with a laurel wreath and a loincloth, he bares a bow in his left hand and a scepter in his other. He uses this scepter to guide the sun as he rides his chariot across the skies, pulled by four golden pegasi. He is also the god of archery and poetry, as well as chariot racing. It was said that it was he that personally inspired the sport to mortals. Farmers, poets, archers, horsemen, and chariot riders see him as their patron though most of the peopl of Attica pay homage and tribute to the god of the sun. Symbols associated with him are depictions of the sun, a bow and arrows, and horses.

AVINA (Uh-veen-uh)
Daughter of Atius and Syntro, goddess of logic, government, philosophy, invention, and reason. Avina is worshipped and paid heavy tribute or at least daily prayer by philosophers, inventors, and most government officials. Depicted as a short haired elegant woman with a bold nose and chin and on her right arm sits an owl. The sole symbol associated with Avina are owls.

CURSEOR (Curse-ee-or)
Son of Avina, conceived unto her by an Attican champion allegedly. According to myth, this champion was strong, noble, and brazen. Undefeated in every challenge he faced. Avina became ensconced by this proud warrior and took the form of a beautiful woman and seduced and bedded the man. It is revealed that the champion had a wife, who when discovering his infidelity, slit his throat in his sleep. Heartbroken and enraged, Avina turned the woman into a cow. She later discovered she was pregnant by the mortal man and Atius, pitying his daughter, elevated her newborn to godhood. Curseor is the god of runners, couriers, thieves, tricksters, and messengers. He is depicted as a short impish man with pointed ears and thick curly hair wearing only a loincloth and a leather cap. His symbols are wings, foxes, and rabbits.

LORVAN (Lor-van)
Youngest of Atius’ three children. Lorvan is the god of war, rage, and insurgence. Depicted as a towering figure in heavy armor wielding a sword and a hand axe. From his helmet billows a flaming red beard while his skin as pale as the moon. Warriors, fighters, and generals pray to him before battle. There are fanatics even who offer blood sacrifices and create grand pyres of their enemies’ burning corpses as tribute to Lorvan. Lorvan is said to be a temperamental and strict god. Only the strongest hold his favor. His symbols are a bull, a dog, and depictions of flame.

AMARA (Uh-mar-uh)
The goddess of love, lust, and passion. She is the daughter of Lorvan and a former queen of an Attican state. Lorvan seized upon her in the form of a general and entered a long love affair with the queen, impregnating her with a daughter. The woman died in childbirth and Lorvan returned to Morbatur with the babe wrapped in his cape. After months of pleading with his father Atius agreed to grant the half-blood godhood and gave her a throne on Morbatur with the other gods. While not the patron goddess of any one city, she is beseeched by all seeking love or sexuality. Symbols associated with her are heart symbols, doves, and dolphins.

I think I can do a potential Miletus or Ephesus, or perhaps Syracuse in Lonce. A city generally focused on trade and has a vibrant democratic and intellectual society - not up to the level of Athens of course, but still quite noticeable.

This is a decidedly solid idea. I take it you will be handling the Quasyrids once the story gets going?
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

City State Name: Agelada

City State Location: Eriandor

Ruler/Head of State: Dekan Ansumenedes, chiefest of the Nine Councillors

Government Type: Constitutional oligarchic theocracy

Population: 35.000

City Crest/Banner:
Image

City Patron God/Goddess: Avina

Short Backstory: According to legend, the wife of the Champion who fathered Curseor, Agelada, fled her kingdom following her transformation into a cow. Coming from the divine, her milk was sweet and while she bore no calves, she also was not susceptible to old age. For a century, Agelada thus fed the tribespeople of Eriandor, leaving them content. However, they did not know the wheel or the fire, and could not construct buildings out of stone. Their existence was squalid and fraught with difficulty.

Enter Menos, a hero from a distant land. During the siege of his homeland across the sea, where the Quasyrid now dwell, Avina came to him. She pleaded with him to save the precious scrolls of the city library and to take a boat across the sea to safety. He did, and following a long voyage, he landed on the beaches of Eriandor. There, he was given the honey-milk of Agelada, who instantly transformed back into a woman and wedded Menos. Menos and Agelada would then use the knowledge of Tesa to construct a city, of which they would become king and queen. They named the city after Agelada, and thus, a civilisation was born.

In actuality, the history of Agelada is probably less mythical. Most likely, the city was originally founded by proto-Atticans and later inhabited by mixed Attican and foreign peoples from across the sea. These Atticans, Eriandoric Atticans, with their own dialect of the Attican language, were first ruled by a line of kings who ruled with incredible splendour. They built large palaces and ruled in a tyrannical fashion, not unlike the kings of the Quasyrid. This king was supported by a body of nine advisors, which, according to legend, was the number of advisors king Menos had.

More and more, the kings lavished themselves on food and drink, men and women, and more and more, the nine advisors took over control of the kingdom. These advisors, together, would begin to sit as chief arbitrator in court cases, given their knowledge of the laws and customs. They would also sit on war councils, and wield more powers of the king. All ceremonies would remain with the king, while the actual governing was done by this body.

Eventually, this led to the Case of Prince Caris, who was the eldest son of his father. He was a good warrior, but hot-headed, and he was interested in ruling. Upon the death of his father he assumed the throne, but the Council of Nine disapproved of this. They protested the legality of his assumption. Traditionally, the king was above the law, but the Council held that as long as the succession was disputed, the Prince could not claim royal immunity. As such, he was forced to step down, and his younger brother, a glutton with no love for stewardship, was crowned in his stead. This led to a slow evolution, where each time a king died, the Council would deliberate longer and longer, until eventually, the seat of the king was left open perpetually.

While technically the Crown of King Menos was left open, there was no-one left to wear it. The Council would not use its power to appoint a new king, and thus, the remaining powers befell them as prime justices. These justices, spurred on by the writings of Bedecles, reshaped the Constitution into that of a philosopher kingdom. The Nine would make important decisions and appoint all government positions, but not just by their own measure: they would allow scholarly debate from the members of the Institute, the ancient school of logic in the city, which guarded the Tesan Library. According to the treatises of these scholars, society would henceforth be run. It became close to a theology, but with very few stately rituals. The abolition of the kingship meant that most ceremonies that required his presence were now virtually impossible. Instead, people had to contemplate the universe by themselves. The lack of large ceremonies in the city has led to a reputation of them being dusty bores continuously philosophising.

There exists, however, a vibrant culture both inside and outside the city. The city’s life is based around the Institute, where both male and female members are allowed. The tuition fees are steep, but it is not uncommon for a peasant with aptitude to receive funding from a rich family. Debate is rather free, as there is no king to offend and the Council allows criticism of its own policies, but there is a strict social code. Those who do not follow it can be expelled from the halls of the Institute, which amounts to excommunication from society. As such, there exists strict social control.

Outside the city walls, there are mostly rustic pastures of cattle. The main exports of the city are leather, salted beef and cheese, as well as a particular yoghurt. The mines in their mountains are poor in precious metals, but do produce tin in some quantities, which was a major export long ago. Nowadays, bronze has lost much of its military value, however. The few gold mines that existed ran dry long ago. Honey is a second product from the region, from which is brewed a particular kind of spice mead. Artists from the city are renowned not only for their works of poetry, but also mosaics that depict historical scenes. Art within the city has to have an educative purpose, so the architecture of the city is very pragmatic, but features heavy symbolism in design details.

Historical Basis: Plato’s Republic and Laws, with some Rome sprinkled on top.

Military and Navy Size: There are a total of 2.500 men under arms in the city. 1000 of them form the elite citizen infantry of the city, the Menonoikos, or the House of Menos. Former royal guards, they are required to follow the Gymnasium, which educates them both physically and mentally. Officers are trained in the ancient art of war from ancient texts. The main body of the army is formed by light infantry, mainly draw from herdsmen, armed with hunting spears, wicker shields and the deadly sling, for the use of which Ageladan slingers are renowned.

OTHER:
Important buildings include the Tesan Library, which according to legend houses the ancient scrolls from the destroyed city of Tesan, from which Menos hails. Around the library lies the Institute, formerly a royal palace, restructured to fit in classrooms. The graduation room, where a student defends a philosophical thesis, is the former throne room, which still houses the Golden Crown of Menos. It also houses public baths and beautiful gardens of splendorous variety, with flowers, plants and animals from all over the world. Of all temples in the city, none is so splendorous as the Temple to Avina the Queen, dedicated to the stern wisdom of the goddess Avina. In the temple, the Nine Councillors meet to hear oral debate, either in a court case or because a new policy has to be decided upon. Through the city, from the Institute to the Eastern Gate, runs the Road of Roses, a columned boulevard with many shops and carts with wares, covered from the heat with large cloth sails.

Important people from the city include Bedecles, a philosopher who was a stern opponent of the Rule of Kings, and wrote many treatises both decrying kingship and democracy. Menos, the founder and first king from the city, is also seen as a legendary figure. The writer of the Recorda, Dyson, is said to have studied at the Institute, but whether he is a native of the city or a visitor is unknown.

Excellent. I think I'll try my hand at Ontalar. Based on its location, my notion is that Ontalar is the youngest of the major city-state realms. It's essentially a settler society, carved out of rocky hill country that belonged to the barbarians and the river tribes just a few generations ago. Its northern and western borders are still porous, as Attican and barbarian raid back and forth in the wilderness. Ontalar is Attica's wild frontier: the city is influenced by Atticans from every other major city, who come seeking cheap land or political refuge or a fresh start, and so it is a cultural mish-mosh of other poleis. Ontalar also functions as Attica's western bastion - a coastal civilization's first line of defense against any barbarian incursion from the continent's interior.

Accordingly, Ontalar has some Spartan features: it's a highly militarized and fairly agrarian society, and it places an extremely high priority on military preparedness. There's an elaborate and grueling system designed to raise every male, Attican Ontalarian as a warrior, and the eternal frontier conflict means that Ontalar is never truly at peace. Even now, the majority of its rural subjects remain barbarians, not Atticans, and they work as agricultural laborers. These non-Atticans are not as hideously suppressed as the Spartan helots, though; in fact, intermarriage between barbarians and Atticans is not uncommon, and a gradual cultural mingling is underway. Ontalarians now speak an accented, somewhat bastardized Attican, and they have adopted certain barbarian technologies, tactics, and superstitions. The reverse is also true.

In brief: it's the edge of the Attican world, a young and vigorous if still-unsophisticated society, violent and innovative and diverse, for which the coming war will be not just a decisive historical event, but also a kind of national coming-of-age. How does that sound?
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

Reverend Norv wrote:Excellent.

I like it, I like it. Go right ahead!

City State Name: Iluria | Old Ilurian: Wilura | Also known poetically as Charion or Charios

City State Location: Faramisia

Ruler/Head of State: The de facto ruler of Iluria is formally titled in documents, treaties etc. as the 'Regent' of Iluria [Koine: Antibasileús αντιβασιλέας; Old Ilurian: Sokou]. Usage of this title outside those contexts is usually infrequent, as it does not hold any power itself. Instead they rely upon their titles of Protistos, Polemarchos, and [Megas] Nomothete. As Protistos they have the right to attend both the Boule and Ecclesia, have the first and last speech should they wish, and have full power of veto over any decision or law. As Polemarchos they are in charge of, and responsible for, the defence of the city and its military in its entirety. As Nomothete they are immune from prosecution, must confirm any additions to the courts, as well as decisions of the courts, and may enact decrees with the full weight of the law.

The Regent is often referred to as 'Tyrant' or 'Basileus' by other Attican states, and sometimes as Anax as an act of courtesy. The reigning regent is currently Tereus.

Government Type: de jure Aristocratic Triarchy
de facto Tyranny

Iluria is defined as an Aristocratic Triarchy under a Tyranny. Formally it is ruled by the High Priestesses of Syntro, Amara, and Venilia as a Council of Three. This council''s session, however, has been prorogued for over a century, and they are physically barred from accessing the Red Temple on Trosian's Hill, where sessions take place. Even when such sessions did take place, they were largely ceremonial and only confirmed what had already been decided by the assemblies.

For a century after the line of kings ended, the Boule and the Ecclesia were the centres of power. The Boule is the superior house, composed of the members of the aristocracy divided into three cohorts, one chosen by sortition, and two by election (both with limited suffrage, one restricted to the aristocracy, and the other to landowners within the polis limits. For both married women over 35 also have a vote, though it is cast by their husband, and widows over 50 who meet the land requirements may also vote). It may veto any decisions by the Ecclesia, and is the only one which can alter the constitution.

The Ecclesia is the lesser house, and is direct, any adult citizen over 20 (for men), and 35 (for married women) may take part in its weekly proceedings. It largely deals with minor legislation, mediating conflicts and civil cases, and electing minor officials. It may also create committees to investigate certain issues, although these are rarely used.

86 years ago Ariston and other members of the Polyiad clan secured control of the city. Both the Boule and Ecclesia lessened in importance, as Ariston declared himself regent to the empty throne of Assaracus, the last king. Through this he created a de facto Tyranny, though the Polyiads have relied heavily upon intermarriage with the aristocracy and the Boule to keep order and themselves in power.

Population: 45,000

City Crest/Banner: Image

City Patron God/Goddess: Hydro Ogenos - One of the more terrifying aspects of Hydro, as a grim and vengeful god who battles and grapples with the alien terrors of the deep. Ilurians believe that were he to run out of foes, he would rise up and drown the world. For this reason sacrifices are often made only to appease him, and concurrent sacrifices are also made to Oceanus and Tethys, to spawn more creatures of the deep for him to battle.

Short Backstory: notes to be expanded later:

The native people of the peninsula, the Tharama (Attic: Farasmoi), gave their name to Faramisia. They were not the oldest group to have lived in Faramisia, but they were the most successful. Their culture flourished as the ages passed, villages coalescing into towns, and power passed into the hands of palatial warlords. This system would not last forever.

The site of modern-day Iluria had likely been occupied for thousands of years, though it was not to grow from a humble village into a city for most of them. According to an Atticised version of their own legends, it was founded by a man named Karasa (Attic: Chares), the son of Hydro and a mortal woman. He wrestled with and, in a fit of violence, killed a son of Atius named Wilura (Attic: Iluron). Atius in return cursed him not to stray two miles from where Wilura had died. Karasu set about constructing a city, but found himself alone. Karasa prayed to his father for help, and Hydro sent an earthquake which scared three pure white lambs and a white bull to his location. Karasa used Wilura's bones to construct four altars, sacrificing the lambs to Syntro, Amara, and Venilia, and the bull to Hydro. Venilia sent an small earthquake, gifting the city with fresh springs. Syntro guided to him 8 men and 8 women, the progenitors of Iluria. Amara sent to him three women, each a daughter of the aforementioned three goddesses, to be his consorts. For 100 days storms battered the town, and yet the soil was barren and dry. Karasa put aside his ego and begged Atius for forgiveness. He planted Wilura's heart upon the acropolis, and named the city after his slain foe. Upon this Atius forgave Karasa, though he warned him that should his body ever leave the city would fall. Upon Karasa's death he was deeply entombed, so the city would stand tall and bright forever.

The Faramisian peninsula was spared the worst of the Attic migrations. While its palatial system did fail before the Attics had even arrived, due to climate changes and regional economic crashes, the invaders found themselves largely assimilated. They did however influence the Tharama greatly, with the adoption of the Attican pantheon and identification of many Attican gods with native Faramisian ones. They also greatly shaped Faramisian culture, architecture, myths and legends.

In the classical period Iluria became a city of great renown, known across Attica for its wealth and control of lucrative trade routes. It dominated the other Faramisian cities in an unequal league, and was eventually sacked by a coalition of them and Attican cities. The Attican states would later go on to sack many other Faramisian cities. This would result in the end of native Tharama rule in Faramisia as Attican dynasties claiming descent from the heroes of the epic poem Chariad would establish themselves. The Chariad further infers that many of these Attican heroes fared poorly in trying to return home, due to their offences against the gods.

Old Ilurian

Miasoi dai, o viasse, wia deimo tume wiasu jo kroso wata qu chava wito boi siasiasta ki reide seijei wia Wilura. Do gia kroitadouno jussu issorku, qu jussu were ki kossei va pujoi toki qu soissi ɡia was dodo; ɡiarki ijo ɡia jurkoi puvi ɡou dorre kuthi pupi giami miartoupi do sai pijiji qu tossa do kotha miado thusto; pe do dai gia pudo gia chiji mia miartoupi do kotha, je boi tuwe para cha sai thurro rai ito ki siarredei wia ki domo; jupu ki giaga kreyri chi roi putu chipi thusto. Translation

Tell me, O muse, of those great heroes who travelled far and wide after he had sacked the famous town of Wilura. Many cities did they visit, and many were the nations with whose manners and customs they were acquainted; moreover they suffered much by sea while trying to save his own life and bring his men safely home; but do what they might they could not save all the men, for they perished through their own sheer folly in eating the cattle of the Sun-god; so the god prevented them from ever reaching home. Tell me, too, about all these things, O daughter of Atius, from whatsoever source you may know them.

Iluria came under the control of the Hermaiad dynasty, who would rule for 161 years. After the death of the last king, Menander III, his heir Demetrius was disqualified due to having been ostracised several years prior for the murder of a rival. He attempted to take the city, but was repelled, and several other Heramaiads were also expelled from the city. The Boule could not come to an agreement over a successor, and so it was decided the three high priestesses would form a 'temporary' council and undertake the religious duties of the monarch.

A century later saw the rise of Ariston and the Polyiad clan. Ariston was a member of the lower aristocracy, of mixed Attican and Tharama heritage, who accrued power and privileges over time due to his popularity with the people. His longevity in power and actions to stabilise Iluria allowed him to pass on this position to his descendants.

Iluria upon the eve of Albors' invasion is a city of contradictions. To its neighbours, it is a vicious city of reavers, worshipers of a cruel god, where no law is sacred. To visitors, it is a city of poets and courtesans, architects and authors, a place where any desire can be granted. It remains to be seen whether Tereus can weather Albor's storm.

Historical Inspiration: Ancient Minoa, Troy, Rome

Military and Navy Size: Iluria maintains a semi-professional force known as the Temple Guard, numbering around 100. They are drawn from the aristocracy. Other than this they can draw up 400 Hoplites, and 800 peltasts from the citizenry. Their army, however, is not particularly famed, and the Temple Guard suffers from nepotism, corruption, and aristocrats purchasing their way out of service.

Iluria on the other hand is famed for its navy, albeit usually being accused of using it for the purposes of piracy. Through the usage of mercenaries, as marines and oarsmen, and the impressment of foreigners, along with slave labour, as oarsmen, it is able to sustain a large navy of 60 Triremes.

OTHER: (Any additional information you wish to add; wonders/colossal structures, military units and tactics, notable citizens/“heroes”.)
1- Presuming Attic is Greek, then this is the standard for the period
2- The local dialect of Attic in Faramisia
3- The Ilurian dialect of the native language of most Faramisians, contrasted with New Ilurian (Ilurian Attic; see 2)
4- Slavery in Iluria is quite a large institution, with slaves being used both economically and domestically.

Ruler/Head of State: Magister Kantýropoúlios (ht: Kantrupurru), President of the Hattusan Senate

Government Type: Republican Oligarchy

Population: 39,000

City Crest/Banner:

City Patron God/Goddess: Everlasting Providence of Hydros (Aiónia Prónoia tou Hydrou) - the aspect of Hydros that provides life towards the Ocean and the City (ht: Ti-Nadannu Hitturu)

Short Backstory: Hattusion's founding myth involved the ocean god Hydros and the chief goddess Syntro. It is said that following the conclusion of a major war between the Gods and another race (similat to the Titanomachy), the goddess Syntro married Attius in a grand ceremony much to the ire of Hydro, his brother. This event turned Hydro into a wrathful god of the storms and the seas known to the present day. However, in a last moment before she was married, Syntro approached Hydros in his bed one last time; this union producess the goddess Hyperea, the goddess of the clear and warm seas. After they were married, Attius found out about Syntro's indefility, and sought to murder Hyperea. A local hunter called Hattus invited the newborn goddess into his coastal cave and hid her from Attius' wrath. Once his rage passed, Attius returned to the heavens. As a sign of gratitude, Hydros bulit a city for Hattus, his family, and his followers - the benevolent aspect of Hydros, which is called Everlasting Providence (at:Aiónia Prónoia, ht: Ti-Nadannu) is revered as the patron God of Hattusion until this day.

However, in reality, Hattusion's history was certainly not mythical but rather violent. What would be known as the Lonce region was home to an ancient civilization known as the Hurrians, a group of people who worshipped an ancient Earth god whose name is long forgotten - one of thee first civilizations to emerge in the world. Lonce's three wide rivers irrigated the expansive Hurrian plain, allowing a thriving society to exist. However, either by war or by disease, this civilization is long gone by the time Attican colonists arrive in Lonce, their only legacy being massive megalithic palaces and temples. Most likely, the Hurrians splintered into various tribal groups that inhabit Lonce nowadays, one of them being the Hattusans. The city itself is bulit over an ancient Hattusan town, the capital of an expansive trading chiefdom. Several long a nd violent conflicts erupted between the Attican colonists and the Hattusans, as evident by the large number of ancient fortresses spread around the city. Gradual assimilation between the Attican colonists and the Hattusans produced an unique blend of culture native to the city and its surroundings. Hattusan and Attican gods are synceretized, evident from the different rituals observed in Hattusion compared to the other Attican cities. Its location at the tip of the Serranean Sea made Lonce a thriving port of trade.

The city follows a Republican model of government where the Patricians (the upper class of traders, noblemen, and landlords) gathered in the Senate of Hattusion. The Senator position is not hereditary, nor is membership strictly limited. To be a member of the Senate, one is required to pay the Tribute of the Lords, a sum of several kilograms of gold, silver, bronze, and other important materials to the Senate each year. One-fourth of the Tribute would then be shared among all Senators, while the remaining three-fourth went into the city coffers. The Senate's duty is to pass laws and legislations, elect the Magister of the city, approve declarations of war, and budgetary legislations. Every citizen can enlist in the Hattusian Army, and a ten-year military career is required to obtain Senate membership. Every Senator can ask for the responsibility of a legion (a division of the Army) to lead them for a maximum of five years. However, with the Magister's permission, this period can be further extended. Magisters are elected for a term of three years; there are no term limits, though the Senate can elect a Dictator instead (a Magister who rules for life).

Historical Basis: Miletus, Ephesus, and Syracuse with Hittite elements and the Roman government system

Military and Navy Size: 3,200 men at maximum served in the City's standing army at any time, although this number can be increased or decreased according Senate legislation. An additional 100 serve as the City Guards. A standing mercenary force of 200 is employed by the City to safeguard its frontiers - mostly made up by tribal Hattusans. This force, however, cannot be used to fight offensive wars. The city owns a decent-sized Navy of thirty-five triremes, docked at the Hydrosian Ports of Hattusion.

City State Location: Lonce

OTHER: N/A for now

Ah yes, neighbour! You want to weave our histories together? Would you be okay with the Hurrian empire also having one controlled my region?

My app is a WIP, but expect it tonight. I’m claiming the Donti region if that’s alright, and my city is roughly based off of Athens.

Also, any estimate for the IC?
