Hello!

Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, aiming to provide and unite nations from different parts of the World through music. The WorldVision Song contest is an outlet to showcase the popular or native music of your nation. As with every contest, there are a few simple rules and regulations that you'll need to follow. If you're new, continue on to the FAQ/Guide To WorldVision! If you are simply looking for the rules, look no further than the box below:

As it was introduced prior to the start of '79, the same strike system for punishments will be in effect, where players breaking certain contest rules will receive strikes depending on the severity.

    • One Strike: No immediate consequences;
    • Two Strikes: One-contest ban;
    • Three Strikes: Two-contest ban.
  • Strikes expire after five editions; however, a strike expiring during a ban does not edit or shorten it.
  • Bans stack; that is, a nation reaching three strikes within one edition is immediately banned for the following three editions.
  • Bans erase strikes once they are completed.

    Here are the following issues that can net you a strike:

    One strike:
    • Not voting in the contest (will also disqualify a contestant from competing)
    • Changing votes without Worldvision Committee supervision.
    • Posting halftime results when not the host or WVC & refusing to remove results (which also results in disqualification)
    • Posting an incomplete entry.
    • Not declaring a new puppet, or when transferring ownership of a puppet.

    Two strikes:
    • Engaging in tactical voting.
    • Intentionally refusing to vote.
    • Attempts to evade a ban.
    • Entering more than one puppet in the contest.

FAQ / Guide To WorldVision

I'm new here, how does this all work?

Welcome! Here at WorldVision, we write our own lyrics to existing songs, then vote on them! Many of us write performances and background information on the performer as well. This contest is based heavily on the Eurovision Song Contest, so it helps a lot if you're familiar with it! One major difference from it is that the winner doesn't host the next contest- here we have people bid each edition to host the next contest.

That sounds fun! How do I sign up?

Signing up is simple! You can fill out and post the application below, or simply state your interest in joining. If you do use the application, you don't need to fill everything in.

Code: Select all
Nation Name: Your nation's name goes here.
Official Broadcaster: Your official broadcaster for WV goes here.
Song Title: The IC Song title goes here.
Artist(s) Name(s): The name of your act goes here.

Tune: The real-life tune you're basing your song on goes here.

This is all so exciting! I want to host!

In order to host, you need to have fully participated once, especially to get the feel of how the contest runs. While you wait, you can look at current bids to learn how good bids look like. If you've signed up before host voting has begun, then you can vote for the host! Once you've finished a contest, you can bid for host, as long as you don't vote for your own.

How do I write an entry?

Writing an entry is just a bit more work than Alexander Rybak makes it seem. Most of us use an existing song as a tune, which we usually link through YouTube, and rewrite the lyrics so that they are original- which means that we wrote them ourselves and did not copy the real lyrics (at least 80% should be your own, which is generally easy if you write your own). Translating real lyrics does not count!

To do well, it's best to write a performance and choose a tune that hasn't been used before - don't be afraid to ask us if you're unsure! In addition, it's always good to look at past contests and learn from the winners and highest placed entries.

If you do post a reservation/placeholder post for your entry, please make sure that you finish it with a completed set of lyrics. If you don't finish, or if you don't withdraw on the OOC thread, you will receive a strike, which is explained in the spoiler below this section.

So what comes next? Voting?

Yes, that's right! After the entry deadline, you cannot edit your entry without permission from the Committee. After the host posts the interval act and opens voting, you may post your votes. Just like in Eurovision, you give 12 points to your favorite entry, then 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1 point to your next favorite. Please vote on time!! The host may choose to close voting after the deadline, but if you do not vote on time you will be disqualified.

Next, you do the televote. Here, it means that you open the form that is linked by the host, and rank each entry from 1 to 10, with 1 being worst and 10 being best. Ever since the official implementation of the televote in WV83, everyone's televotes will be revealed by the Committee, so you can see the full breakdown after the contest ends. We use a weighting system to calculate the televotes - this will be changed at the discretion of the committee if the number of 0's exceeds 10% of participating nations (this will be done only for those nations with a score of above -10).

This sounds awesome! I want to enter a puppet nation and write more entries!

You can do that! You may enter a second nation, but make sure you confirm that it is yours in the signups! However with great power comes great responsibility: you can only give a maximum of 5 points to yourself, and together with your main nation you can only give a maximum of 18 points to another nation.

I do not feel safe or welcome here. What do I do?

If you are bullied, harassed, intimidated/etc by someone within the contest, please contact the Committee or one of its members, and we will ensure confidentiality and analyze the situation. We will deal punishment as deemed appropriate depending on the severity of the offense.

I have more questions! Who do I ask?

If you have more questions you can ask in the thread, join the Discord server linked at the top of this post, or TG the WorldVision Committee. The Discord server is probably where you are going to get the fastest reply.

So basically, be original, try to be fair, don't be a jerk, and have fun. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to TG the Committee - it helps if you add the Committee's individual member names (Beepee, Ethane, Malta Comino Gozo, Nekoni, Todlichebujoku) in the "To:" box along with "WorldVision Committee" for a faster response. DM on Discord also works!

Even if you've missed the deadline or aren't participating, feel free to discuss the contest in this thread or post commentary in the IC. You'll find that we all greatly appreciate some good commentary.

With all that said, welcome to WorldVision!

Committee Elections

It's time for the committee elections. If you have participated in the most recent edition of the WorldVision Song Contest then you are eligible to run. There are five spots on the committee which we are electing for. Typically, users will write a manifesto of the things they'd like to do/change/achieve if they are elected to the position. We can also arrange some Q&A sessions if people are interested to find out more about the candidates. Voting details will be revealed when voting opens, however the system has changed so that instead of using an STV system, we instead will calculate those elected using a simple average. Also, committee candidates will still be able to vote, but they cannot rank themselves among their votes.

This edition of Ll'acteade Scotatrofina eu Cançis for WV86 returns with a twist! This special edition is going to feature the usual format, but one Semi Final will see five new entrants compete, while the other will see five returning acts from previous renditions of Ll'acteade Scotatrofina eu Cançis participate. In the final, a domestic televote will then vote for the song that will represent Scotatrova at WorldVision 86. (To vote, rank your favorites in each semi from 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 points for your least to most liked songs via TG or Discord DM. Voting for the semis end on October 30.)

....ALEZIAN BROADCASTING AUTHORITY PRESENTS....

Image

HELLO AND WELCOME, The national contest returns to choose who will represent us in the Worldvision Song Contest and World Hit Festival! Well, viewers, if you would like to listen to the playlist, click that picture above, or you can listen to each entry below! Well, let's not waste too much time and I would like to say goodluck!

Image
Tune= 2NE1- I am the best
Language = Russian, Finnish

After a surprise victory, Pyalivostok returns with a K-POP song, SH-E-S-T-E-R, Six sisters! They're not actually sisters but they got the bond. Five Russians and one Finnish lady took up the challenge with a modern beat! Will they hold the title of Alezimania Champion like what Zafizamarrah did? We'll see!

Image
Tune = Marie Line- Ou Aller
Language = French

OPAL returns to Alezimania! She returns with her elegance enhanced more than 2000 times with a song once again, In French! . Her elegance went undefeated until last edition. Will she regain her title of lady elegance? We'll see!

Image
Tune= Bunga Citra Lestari - Kecewa
Language = Arabic, English

After a sad finish, Zafi is waaaay more than ready to kick back and win. Samira with her signature hijab (different way of wearing, that is) With a voice to fear and great meaning behind the song, Samira is the current national favorite. Will she prove that Zafi has not fell yet, we'll see!

]Image

Tune= Yang Soo Kyung - Love is A Cold Temptation/ Love is Temptation
Language= Indonesian

Even though Basna always got left behind, Basna shows its prowess on old-school musical talent once again. With a great voice, Basna would definitely earn love from boomers and Gen X and other generations. If she won, she would break the stereotype on how Basnannites are the worst in singing. Will she prove that Basna is better than what people think? We'll see!

Image

Tune= Tom Gregory - Fingertips
Language = Hebrew, English

Idresh returns for a revenge! We told you two seasons ago that Idresh might be called for something big. And this is a big time to do so. Idresh returns with a more modern music, and came with a more modern voice. TLD is usually known for slow and calm songs, but lately, they have been modernizing. Will it work here? We'll see!

Image

Tune= Eros Ramazotti - Se Bastasse Una Canzone
Language = Aramnan

Newcomer to the music industry, Diego hits everyone by storm. Even though he's usually singing modern songs, this time he's trying to go slow 90s. With a big fanbase in North Alezia, Diego is the most popular for 10 days before surpassed by Samira. Will he prove victorious and bring his name even more upwards to the World stage? We'll see!

That's all the participants for this edition! Good luck to everyone!

OOC:
Hello guys, Lez here.

Thank you for your support last edition. Even though I got less than what I'm expected... I'm still happy that at least I'm at the left side of the scoreboard
Like usual, there's still a long way to go for Worldvision Glory.
So, The national contest returns!

Other than these 6 regions voting, I need your lovely help to vote for who is the best to represent North Alezia in both Worldvision and World Hit Festival. And there's no denying that some tunes might make it later on the long future.

This time and later on, North Alezia picked BOTH the entries for both Worldvision and World Hit Festival using this NF. The winner will go to Worldvision, and the runner up will go to World Hit Festival.

In order to cast your vote:

Vote 5,6,7,8,10,and 12 to your favorites. 12 to your most favorite, 5 for your least favorite.
After you decide, vote by TG or by DM on my discord, HowDidIGetHere?#5211
Cast your vote by writing your points, then write the region you want to give your points to. For example
XX pts-Basna
XX pts-Zafizamarrah
etc.
You can also vote with the artists name, or songs name, or using all of them!

You can vote until next week (28th of October 2020) around 17:00 PM WITA or around 10:30 AM BST on the same day. If the number of voters are not enough, the deadline will be lengthened by a day.

Thank you, and have a nice day/night
Don't Stop Nooting (sorry Llalta I like that phrase)

Not going to bother with a recap of how well my last entry did, but I am going to say that my NF for this edition will be a two-parter because they're all Eurovision 2010s songs and I wanted one from each year of the decade. This is just the preliminary round that won't exist ICly, although the top two from each semi + the wild card will go through to ElejamieVision.

Semi-Final 1

Semi-Final 2

5 points for your favourite entry, 4 for your second favourite, 3 for your third favourite, 2 for your fourth favourite and 1 for your least favourite. And then you do the same thing again for the other semi-final. Send your votes to me via TG or DM them to me on Discord. Deadline will be Tuesday 27th October at 9pm GMT (giving an extra hour because daylight savings is coming to an end on Sunday). If the link to a song's blocked in your part of the world, please let me know and PLEASE (all capped because it's important) DM/TG me an alternative link so I can edit in for anyone else who can't access them.

P.S. WorldVision Committee bid coming soon. Expect pessimism.

P.P.S. Expect more Placely Placington.

Official Broadcaster: Wait, We Have a Broadcaster?
Song Title: I Am In Extreme Horrible Agony Please End My Suffering

Tune: Joel Johansson (aka Vargskeletor) - Beef Zone

P.S. Placely Placington is NOT running for Committee, fortunately, just the user behind him.

Last edition of Worldvision marked another Top-10 finish for Polkopia and the PNB opted to continue the tradition of using a National Final in order to determine Polkopia's entrant for the next edition of the contest. It should come as a surprise to no one that this National Final will once again take place in the form of the Landa vy Polkopiya, which has served as the National Final for Polkopia for decades and is one of Polkopia's longest-running TV shows. The contest dates back to 1972, where the winner of the competition received a cash price and was flown to Peeto in order to record more tracks with an established Polkopian record label. Of course, times in Polkopia are much different now, and apart from exposure on several media platforms, the winner of the Landa vy Polkopiya typically has the opportunity to represent Polkopia in the Worldvision Song Contest.

The lineup for this edition of the Landa vy Polkopiya has been revealed! As always, the PNB is calling on international juries to submit their votes before the conclusion of the semi-finals, and this result will be mixed with a televote in a 50/50 format in order to calculate the overall winner of the competition. The list of competing entries can be found below:

Language: Polkopian, English
Tune: CLC - Helicpoter

#2.Mooriya - Double Take

The Spiritual Republic of Caryton
(CARYTON VIDEO)
A serene & puritan 80s-90s tech agrarian Christian fundamentalist nation with no separation between church and state. Wide prairies, fertile plains, archaic clothing, clean skies, lack of modern influence, universal prohibition, kind societies, and simple austere lives forge the Carytonic identity.

It's me, Kalosia. And I want you to vote in the WVC election.

Hey all, Kalosia here.

Did you know that our most recent entry was our 60th entry in WV history? Including Kalosia's predecessor Mediterra, that is. As it stands right now, as my main nation I've had the most entries out of any nation in the history of the WorldVision Song Contest, having consistently participated since our debut 8 and a half years ago at the 21st WorldVision Song Contest in Madrin, Albertasby.

Since then, it has been quite the journey. I've won 3 times, most recently in a WV hosted by Malta Comino Gozo, and have come 2nd, 3rd, and top 10 overall countless times. I've also hosted the contest 5 times (22, 27, 43, 50, 75), as well as supporting 2 hostings by other users (55, 79), making me one of the most experienced members in this community. Of course, this is all thanks to you who trust me reputation and vote for me in host bid elections and such. At the same time, it hasn't been easy either. I've reached the lowest of lows recently and there have been times where I've struggled to reach the top 10, or even get disqualified. I'm not perfect, no one is, but I persevere and ultimately that consistency is key.

My experience goes farther than what I've done with my main nation. I've wrote many more entries as Saviera, and although it started as a so-called "joke puppet", over time I've managed to build a reputation away from that, to the point where I've observed that some of our more newly-joined participants don't see them as a joke puppet at all. What I'm saying is, if you feel like you're at the bottom, it's totally possible to fix that, and to work towards getting to the top, and being able to do as well as the entries and users you perceive as being more competitive. With this same energy, I feel like we're at a position where there is plenty, very plenty room for improvement with the way WorldVision is run, and with the way the WorldVision Committee operates.

With this experience and my consistent commitment to the community, it may not seem like a surprise that I've been trusted with the honour of being the main administrator for the WorldVision (and World Hit Festival) Discord server. I'm truly humbled, I really am. But I also acknowledge that such an honour didn't come from nowhere; it isn't a popularity contest, but rather, people saw that I have the responsibility to run things and, again, gave me their trust. Indeed, I can say I've done it all, having been WHF overseer for 15 editions, having been elected on the WorldVision Committee a couple of times, and of course with all the hostings I have done.

But also, with all my time spent here, I've seen what the WorldVision Committee has been like in the past. I've seen it grow from a relatively dysfunctional trio to a well-organized council of 5. I debuted at a time where the contest format was much more casual and editions ran 3 months, but as we see now it's very consistent and much more orderly. The WVC has gone a long, long way, but as I've said, it can still be so much better.

Yet at the same time, I'm not sure I'm currently in the best position to assume the responsibilities required of a WVC member. I understand that, while the regular tasks may be simple enough, there are challenges we face that need stronger leadership and cooperation, which I feel I may not be able to provide to the extent which is needed at the moment. More importantly, as the WVC has limited seats, should I be elected, I may be taking away a seat from someone who is more eager and willing to take on the necessary leadership. As I've observed and come to realize recently, I should run only if I really want to commit. It is not in good taste to run for the sole purpose of preventing someone else from winning. And I've sensed that there is greater energy to participate this time round, so I will stay on the sidelines and continue to cooperate, both with the current committee and the incoming committee, in assuming my responsibilities as owner of the Discord server.

That being said, I highly encourage those of you who want to bring improvements to the community, to run for committee and find creative ways to bring those improvements forth. There are a lot of young voices among WV participants (I mean those who have more recently joined, not necessarily those who are younger by age) who I think have the power to act and, more importantly, the willingness to commit. At the same time, I understand not everyone is in a position to run for committee but wants to help the contest improve — that's great too! You do not have to be a WVC member to bring change. If anything, the WVC are mandated to listen to your concerns and are here to help address those issues. By being proactive and working together with the WVC, you too can make a meaningful impact.

To be completely honest, I think the current committee has done a pretty good job implementing a major change to the format of the contest (some of you may disagree that it was a good job, I know, but I think we can agree that it hasn't been a complete mess although there is still plenty of room for change). At the same time, I am optimistic that the incoming committee will address many of the issues that the current board are unequipped to respond to or simply does not have enough time to work towards. And for those of you who have chosen not to run, please still vote in the election! None of the candidates may be perfect, but you can acknowledge that certain candidates will be better at addressing your concerns.

Thank you so much if you've read this far. Thank you so much for being part of my journey as a WV participant. As I've said, I hope you make the time to vote in this upcoming WVC election, and continue to be a proactive member of the community regardless of where you stand as a participant.

Hello, it is I, Beepee.

I'm pretty new to this WorldVision, my first contest was 79.  That means I've contested 7 of them, and its been pretty fun.  (I also have one trophy which says "I Beat Kal!")

If you don't know me, I enjoy punny names, old time schlager hits and that warm fuzzy feeling you find at the bottom of a glass of red.

Everyone has been super nice and that's what, if elected, I'd like to try and do, keep it nice and fun.  Maybe, also welcome the newbies who flit in and make them feel warm and safe, it can't hurt to have some more newbies can it?...

I don't really have any major changes I'd want to make (I doubt live zoom calling in your votes or converting to the ESC1965 voting system are really what we're after).   I think the system we have seems to work well... so... I'd like to just carry that on.  So really its just about trying to keep everyone as content as they can be.

What experience do I have in Committee work? well.... none in WorldVision.... but I was a Local Councillor in the South Pacific region which is about rules and upholding them and a former minister for fun there too... I guess that means that I can organise stuff, work as part of a group and get people involved/motivated... which, I guess, can't hurt.

As I'm kinda new, and kinda naive about the way things work in the Committee, I'd probably  see myself as someone who's happy to do work and aide those better qualified or more knowledgeable.  I'm happy to do updates on stuff as they're needed and I'm quite often on the discord or the NS forums... so you'll likely see me about. Hopefully that means any questions you have I can answer quickly or at least ask people who know what the answer is.

I dont really know if this manifesto is selling myself very well, but I've truly had a lot of fun here with the WV and WHF family and I kind of love you all, so yeah.... uhm... that's my manifesto.
