[DRAFT] Mistakes in Space

Postby Nooooooooooooooo » Sun Oct 18, 2020 12:41 am

[desc] The latest intelligence has revealed that, after a @@DEMONYM@@ killed a Blackacrean citizen, the hostile nation of Blackacre has plans to bomb the @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ Space Station in revenge, which currently houses several @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ astronauts and valuable scientific data.
[validity] Must have a space program

[option] "How dare they!" snarls your Defense Minister, @@RANDOMNAME_1@@, as @@HE_1@@ builds @@HIS_1@@ LUGU Model Tank. "Let's bomb 'em back to Puto! They threaten us, we threaten them!" @@HIS_1@@ eyes begin to twitch as @@HE_1@@ begins to mutter what sounds like nuclear codes.
[effect] foreign nations are bombed after one of their citizens tresspasses on @@DEMONYM@@ territory

[option] "Wait, not so fast," replies your Minister of Foreign Relations, @@RANDOMNAME_2@@, as @@HE_1@@ fills out a scratch-off map of the world. "We don't even know why this is happening. Besides, we've been less harsh on Blackacre recently, so why would they bomb us? That being said, I really don't think we should jump to conclusions yet."
[effect] the @@DEMONYMADJECTIVE@@ Space Force encounters constant bombings

[option] "Why don't we just let it go?" suggests your Minister of Whatever, @@RANDOMNAME_3@@, as fiddling with a toy rocket. "After all, it was just a space station. We already have documents and recordings of people's experiences up there, so it's not like we need any more. In fact, if they do bomb us, we could fish out the station from the sea and put it in a museum! Think about how much money we could-- er, how many people would come to see it!"
[effect] burned-out warehouses are declared national monuments

I don’t really like the Among Us premise, it really complicates the whole issue. Space crime/murder/warfare can make some really interesting issues without referencing a game that’ll be irrelevant in about three months

RL references can be a nice touch when used judiciously, not when they derail the entire issue.

Since the recent rocket launch by the world-famous company Spook-X, it has been revealed that two of the astronauts onboard were impostors from Blackacre, and that they subsequently killed the crewmates onboard and detroyed the ship. Although it may have been two opinionated individuals, some are speculating that it was a secret Blackacrean government-sponsored terrorist attack.

So Blackacre committed an act of war and destroyed a civilian spacecraft. That’s your premise.

Based, although I agree with above user that you should limit your references a bit.

In all honesty I don't expect Among Us to be a timeless thing - remember that players in 10 years will get this issue and be very confused. A space mutiny could make a fun issue though, if it hasn't been done already.

Last year there was a draft about a space crime, but that never went through. It's 100% a gap we could fill up.

It's amazing. I approve.
Pro: right-wing, -life, military, police, guns, capitalism, democracy, LGBT, there's more but I can't currently think of them.
Anti: Left-wing, -choice, racial injustice, Democrats, communism, socialism, liberal, social, there's also more but I can't think of them right now.

It won’t be timeless. I’d generally love to see more space issues.

Yes, but the references should be tones down. It’s quite cringey tbh. A few are fine, but not this level

If you want to vary it a bit you could add some Cluedo references ("why was there even a candlestick on a space station?!"), though beware of #459.

More than omit the references, though, the dilemma needs to feel more like it's its own dilemma. Space terrorism could be an incredibly interesting issue (that can tangentially reference Among Us or Cluedo or whatever) and this doesn't quite encapsulate that feeling. It leaned heavily on Among Us rather than making the issue as interesting as possible. I know that's a horribly subjective criteria to judge an issue by, but I think you'd be better off to re-write the issue from the ground up with a sprinkle of references, rather than just gut the issue by removing all the references currently there.

That way you'll end up with a good issue that references Among Us, rather than an issue that leans heavily on Among Us (and subsequently, an issue that feels a bit hollow without any Among Us references).

Gotcha. I'll temporarily abandon the thread while working on a new version. I also think that the last name "Green" might work, since they are both characters in Among us and Cluedo.

The premise definitely has promise, I think you'll be able to come up with something quite good.

I don’t see what The UN Taxation Ban has to do with the issue. If it’s not really a reference to the nation, I’d change the name of the NPC here.

It really doesn't have anything to do with the issue, I just thought I should put an old-time reference in there.

Ha? Do they have nukes or not? I'm pretty sure a spy who's capable of knowing whether or not agovernment is going to nuke something would have some solid evidence of them even having nukes in the first place

Well, it could be a taunt. Like a fake government bill with the intent of tricking the spy.
