I swear, the mines always need workers.
You ain't stealing Irene's immigration growth, besides, given the two choices: Go to Betreuen and there is a chance for a better life or go work in the mines and be guaranteed to die; the convicts and exiles rather suffer under the boot of Irene than work in the mines for the rest of their lives.

How about some discounts on rare metals and ores?

So a number of these nobles might have known Deynai when they were younger.

should work now. May need to open a new window and zoom. Won't be perfect but should be close enough.

Question: would Deynai tutors be willing to instruct pupils in martial arts, or do they strictly teach academic subjects?
For really, I think that the poorest he that is in England hath a life to live as the greatest he. And therefore truly, Sir, I think it's clear that every man that is to live under a Government ought first by his own consent to put himself under that Government. And I do think that the poorest man in England is not at all bound in a strict sense to that Government that he hath not had a voice to put himself under.

Woah now, Irene isn't a slaver. She won't trade the convicts like slaves for materials. She would rather buy the ores at full price.

True enough; and because you'll rarely see more than one Deynai at a time, all the more true for that reason. They're not an army. But if you have to sacrifice a battalion or more to kill one man, they still make for one hell of a speed bump.
Feels like the Jedi vs the Droid Army situation.

The core of it's territory would be close to Nova Terra, being one of the very first Great Houses and having a history older then the Imperium itself. Though they also have holdings across the galaxy as well.

Deynai martial arts themselves are predicated on the Kabuto Gift and autohypnotic conditioning, so it would be impossible to teach those techniques to a non-Deynai; it's literally impossible to use them unless you have Deynai abilities. But a Deynai tutor might well teach more conventional martial arts to a willing pupil, which would still add up to a very formidable skillset. It would be accompanied by a great deal of Bahai'Shido philosophy, though, since the Deynai believe that how you fight is indistinguishable from why you fight. Martial arts training would inherently be training in the Eight Tenets as well.

Sarderia wrote:I find it odd that most ancient Great Houses isn't located in the Orion Spur... I mean, there's where old Earth is located. As for New Shanghai/Urigrad, it's located on the tip of the Cygnus/Norma Arm (connecting the Arm with the Galactic bar). The history is that it's once a People's Republic of China colony, operating sort of a mixed mining and settlement colony (as it's located at the gateway of the Veil Nebula, one of the Milky Way's largest and most productive star factories).
I want to place it on the Orion Nebula originally (that's quite near old Earth, still in the Orion Spur), but I can't find a habitable exoplanet there, so I used Kepler-452b in the Cygnus constellation instead. The reason for this is since the planet is already known from pre-FTL days, they'd likely pick it as the prime candidate for colony, thus allowing the planet to be settled earlier, industrialized earlier, becoming a trade hub, etc.

Speaking of that, are there at least any active archeological sites though in that part of the Galaxy? At least in regards to Earth and the original colonies?
