Head Coach: Thomas Hall(Ranoria). 52 years old. The Olympic Committee of Banija, frustrated with failure after failure of Alastair Jobs, the legendary Loyola coach, after his World Bowl 37 semifinal run, has finally forced Jobs out. The Banijans believe that they have the talent to get into the knockout stages of major tournaments, prepping to make deep WB runs within a tournament or two- whether they should or not, is another question entirely. They also felt they needed a culture change- a coach with a record at the professional level, rather than a college coach.

After searching long and wide, they looked to Ranoria, one of their football rivals, to find a coach. The opposite of Alastair Jobs. As a player, Hall was the career leader in the Ranorian Football League with 62 career interceptions. He's had a lot of success for the Fenrirs in the RFL, coaching over 8 years and never having a losing season, including one championship win. He will run a tough-nosed, smashmouth football team, re-emphasizing the defense and winning football games by controlling the line of scrimmage.

Offensive Coordinator & Assistant Head Coach: Mamadi Diene, 65 years old. He is the offensive coordinator looking to change the way that the Banijan gameplan works. While the game in general is moving towards a more pass heavy style, he believes in a big offensive line and grounding the ball. He has always said, however, that one must be 'creative' running the ball these days, as you cannot simply get a fullback and run it up the middle anymore. Instead of the pass happy offenses of the Jobs era, expect Diene to run a style that meshes well with Thomas Hall, one that emphasizes running the football, and creatively getting the ball to Banija's running backs.

Other notable Offensive Staff: Former NSCF 14 and NSCF 17 champion, Loyola alum running back Justice Greenspan is the running backs coach. he is 40 years old.

Defensive Coordinator: Addo Uster. 37 years old. The young coordinator has spent the past few years being the linebackers coach for the Lwanga Rhinos in the GFLB. Running a 3-4 defense that meshes with Thomas Hall, Hall brought him on because he thought Uster would be a great culture fit. A promising GFLB career that was cut short by an ACL tear at age 25, and then a MCL tear on the same knee at age 27, he brings with him a ferocious intensity and a high amount of energy. He values man to man physical defense, and getting pressure on the quarterback.

Other notable defensive staff: Former NSCF 14 champion and World Bowl XXXVI defensive captain David Franklin is the linebackers coach. He is 46 years old.

Special Teams Coordinator/Strength & Conditioning Coach: Iyoas Motuma. 47 years old. Only coordinator returning from the old staff

Team Cassadaigua- World Bowl 40

The nation is a two-time World Bowl champion, winning the 8th and 22nd editions. In their heyday, the team strength has always been the play of the secondary. They’ll get enough offense, but the defensive backs are outstanding, making us difficult to pass against. We might concede yardage on the ground, but its much more difficult to get it in the air.

Another thing to note is that while Cassadagan teams in other sports are notoriously all-female, the football team has always been mixed gender with men placed on the line of scrimmage.

Chromatika Gridiron Football Team

Nickname: The Iron Legion
Head Coach: Eustace Hampton Jr., 55
Offensive Coordinator: Milo Jones-Smith, 43
Defensive Coordinator: Logan Gwinerva, 42
Special Teams Coordinator: Niles Crescent, 39
Style Modifier: +1
Home Stadium: The Capitalizt Dome, Chromia, Chromatika

OFFENSE
Offensive Coordinator: Milo Jones-Smith
Offensive Philosophy: The Chromatik Iron Legion employs a possession-based philosophy, utilizing two backs, two receivers, and a tight end in an attempt to string together long drives that eat up a lot of the clock. Players are generally big and rely more on size than speed.
Players: - Starters in Italics

Quarterbacks
#02 - Kenner Jones - 25 years old. A burly quarterback at 6 ft 3 inches, 240 pounds, Jones isn't all that fast but can do sneaks with impunity. Decently accurate, but the accuracy decreases with distance.
#18 - Jill Kieran - 21 years old. A more traditional pocket passer with decent speed, prefers to throw deep or be on the edge looking to cause trouble.
#08 - Liam Nott - 23 years old. A speedster who's adept at throwing on the run. Has ball security issues.

Backs
#32 - Morris Issacs - 29 years old. Standing at 6 ft 4 in, 250, Isaacs is a big man and a monster to bring down. Has a tendency to directly run at people and bowl them over, looks forward to contact. Can be injury-prone. Offensive Captain.
#22 - Amber Feeley - 23 years old. Only fullback on the squad - good blocker and decent route-runner. Always looking forward to get to the first would-be-tackler.
#24 - Kimberly Fowler - 25 years old. Often on the field with Isaacs in a dual-back set. A bit faster and nimble, can produce if line sets the edge.
#26 - James Morreau - 31 years old. A third-down back with sure hands who knows how to run a route or get short yardage.
#35 - Victoria Kaiser-Williams - 20 years old. A speedster who can juke around people, but rarely take people on.

Receivers
#11 - Alessandra Mio - 21 years old. Felswyr State University Firehawk. 6 ft 5 inches tall, has massive reach. A Quarterback needs to only get the ball near her, she'll do the rest.
#18 - Kern Sayan - 24 years old. 5 ft 11 inches, precise route-runner. Not very physically imposing.
#81 - Pouncey Jones - 26 years old. 6 ft 3 inches, short-yardage receiver with decent yards after the catch.

Offensive Guards
#66 - Pomeroy Lockhart - 21 years old. Felswyr State University Firehawk. Leader of the offensive line, generates tremendous push and possesses solid vision.
#53 - Cierra Oscar - 25 years old. Blindside blocker for the Iron Legion, decent find.
#60 - Mea Loom - 24 years old. Solid all-around player.
#73 - Amos Lard - 28 years old. Decent veteran.

Centers
#71 - Mikel Kingston - 19 years old. Felswyr State University Firehawk. Possesses solid fundamentals and good vision.
#52 - Kaia James - 20 years old. Felswyr State University Firehawk. Also long snapper for field goals.
#56 - Anderson Keel - 26 years old. Emergency backup, more of a streetball player.

DEFENSE
Defensive Coordinator: Logan Gwinerva
Defensive Philosophy: The Iron Legion uses a Base 4-3, with pressing safeties that rely on cornerbacks to play on an island. It is those cornerbacks that will determine if the team succeeds. Chromatika is strong against the run and the long pass, but can be bested by intermediate or short passes.
Players: Starters in Italics

#38 - Whitney Mowa - 27 years old - Fast. Tackles well. Needs to learn how to cover.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Roster:

(The Transmondian Commonwealth is spread across several parallel worlds, and Transmondian names include a "world name" after their surname to indicate which world someone is from. It is not used in everyday conversation, except when there are two people with the same name. For example, the head coach would normally just be called "Kyle Joyce." When writing someone's full name with the world name, the parentheses are optional -- so "Kyle Joyce (Reich)" and "Kyle Joyce Reich" are both acceptable.)

What is the Transmondian Commonwealth of New England?

Off the coast of Vangaziland, there is a small island with about 7,000 people living on it. The largest town on the island is called Mattapan, and the people who live there call themselves Yankees or New Englanders. They say the island is a territory of the Transmondian Commonwealth of New England, but it's not immediately obvious where "New England" is. It's not anywhere nearby. Some foreigners have been allowed to visit, but the Yankees always insist on providing transportation rather than giving people directions to find it on their own. In previous World Bowls, there have been games hosted at Wilderness Stadium, a futuristic engineering marvel with a seating capacity of 100,000 -- and it's been reasonably full. All those people must have come from somewhere, and they couldn't all be from Mattapan.

So what is really going on?

In 1789, representatives of the American states met to draft a new constitution, but talks broke down due to irreconcilable differences on the issue of slavery, and the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island declared themselves independent from the United States. They formed a new union called the Commonwealth of New England, which also included Vermont. In 1933, Newfoundland was peacefully annexed and became the 6th state of the Commonwealth.

New England was a bastion of freedom in a world plagued by slavery, and it was a formiddable naval power, but America's hostility and Europe's dependence on American grain exports put the Commonwealth in a precarious position politically and economically. This was exacerbated by the rise of fascism in the 20th century.

By the 1970s, New England was suffering severe food shortages due to trade embargoes and overpopulation, and many people emigrated to Canada or America.

This state of affairs continued until 1988, when a team of researchers at MIT made a discovery that would completely upend the balance of power: they discovered a way to travel between parallel worlds. In other worlds, they found technologies that were unheard of in their own timeline. New England became the world's only nuclear power in a world where the concept of nuclear fission had never been conceived. The great slaveholding powers laughed when New England demanded that they free their slaves or face annihilation. A week later, with Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Baltimore reduced to smoldering craters, the United States surrendered and countries across Europe emancipated their slaves to avoid war.

It did not take long for Yankee leaders to realize that their new technology opened up more possibilities than just the opportunity to steal nuclear warheads from other worlds. They began reaching out to their counterparts in other versions of New England, attempting to unite all the Yankee people as a single nation spanning multiple worlds. In worlds that were technologically backward, they shared their knowledge to improve the people's lives and encourage them to join the Commonwealth. In worlds that were more technologically advanced, they learned everything they could and brought the new technologies home to their own world for study.

But there was one technology they were careful never to share: the ability to open portals between worlds. That was a closely-guarded secret because they knew it would be disastrous if it fell into the hands of a rival power like the Americans or the Germans.

In worlds where New England was not inhabited by English-speaking white people, they left the locals to govern themselves. Although what it means to be a Yankee can vary greatly from one world to the next, they understood that French people and Indians were separate peoples with separate histories. Where the French and Indians were friendly, trade was established, but their land was not annexed and their people were not allowed citizenship. In worlds where New England was inhabited by English-speaking white people -- regardless of whether they called themselves Yankee, American, Canadian, or British, and regardless of whether they had minority populations of other ethnic groups living in their midst -- emissaries attempted to persuade the people to join the Transmondian Commonwealth.

They never attempted to annex anything outside the traditional borders of New England. In worlds where North America had no human population, they would plunder it for natural resources, with no regard for borders -- but where there was a human population, they wanted only the alternate versions of their own country. In worlds where New England was an independent country with different borders, or where it controlled colonies, they respected the local borders and they kept the colonies. In some worlds, they found themselves governing Namibia, Australia, or the moon. In worlds where New England belonged to the United States, Canada, or some European power, they attempted to persuade the people to secede from the local government and join the Commonwealth instead.

Within a few decades, the Commonwealth expanded across dozens of worlds and established trade with hundreds more. The population ballooned from 30 million to several billion, and technology advanced at a breakneck pace that was difficult to comprehend. The Home States became a hub for trade between worlds, and the infrastructure struggled to keep up with all the people coming and going, leading to atrocious traffic congestion and overcrowded cities.

The government became unwieldy as the nation grew far faster than the bureaucratic systems were designed to handle. Juggling diplomatic relations across hundreds of worlds was an overwhelming challenge. But even as people were reeling from all the rapid changes, most people were better off. Anyone that wanted to make a new life for themselves could go to one of the uninhabited worlds and help plunder them for natural resources.

The worlds are named according to what the first Yankee visitors found notable about them. For example, the Australian Countries are a world where New England colonized Australia. The Obama Countries are a world where Barack Obama was president of the United States when the first emissaries arrived. The Dark Countries had no electric power when they were first discovered.

Delivering mail, managing trademarks, and discussing geography can be a challenge, as many names are repeated across different worlds. There are hundreds of versions of Boston, Portland, Providence, etc. and each version of Boston may have a street called Beacon Street or Commonwealth Avenue. Sports teams, colleges, and companies often have the same names from one world to the next. To clear up confusion, the name of the world is specified: The Patriots of the Home States, the Red Sox of the English Countries, the University of Vermont in Rainbow Burlington. This also applies to the names of politicians, athletes, authors, or entertainers who may be famous in multiple worlds -- though people from the Home Countries do not use a world name. The president of the Commonwealth, who is from the Home Countries, is Darren Rollins. The governor of Newfoundland in the Neon Countries is Darren Rollins Neon.

Because most worlds have their own international sporting events, the Commonwealth often fields several "national" teams in the same sport. Some recruit only from their own world; others recruit from across multiple worlds. It's very common for talented athletes from less developed worlds where there are not many international competitions to travel to more developed worlds where they have better career opportunities. The football team which represented New England in World Bowl 36 was recruited from a group of less developed worlds -- the Dark States, the Liberated Reich (a.k.a. Hitler States), the Wilderness, the Marxist States, the Noble States, the Rubble, the Coal States, the Slave States, the Roche States, the Rickshaw States, and the Puritan States -- with coaching staff, logistics, and equipment provided by sponsors from more developed parts of the Commonwealth. The World Bowl program was designed to be a chance for players from less developed worlds to broaden their horizons and experience a more modern way of life, not to mention bringing home some money for their families.

In World Bowl XXXIX, New England's national team was taken over by new management, headquartered in Liberated Framingham and mostly run by people from the Liberated Reich and the Rubble States. The team struggled with the transition and had a disappointing season, but they are hoping to come back stronger in World Bowl XL and continue to promote football in the Reich and the Rubble States. The organizers of the World Bowl team have also been working to develop domestic college and professional football in these two worlds.

As part of their efforts to promote local development, the World Bowl team will play their home games at their new headquarters in Liberated Framingham instead of using Wilderness Stadium. It's a smaller venue, but it is more accessible for fans from the Liberated Reich.

The Liberated Reich is in a rapidly developing world recovering from a traumatic past. It was under Nazi rule until the Transmondian Commonwealth invaded. You can still find Nazi memorabilia or Nazi-influenced architecture, but many people have enthusiastically embraced the new Transmondian government. They are quick to get into political conversations about the value of democratic institutions, and there are charities that support concentration camp survivors. Local people can be a little conservative on social issues like gender roles or LGBT rights, but they won't hesitate to throw a punch if someone starts promoting Nazism. Over-the-top displays of patriotism are common, with lots of evergreen branches and red, white, and green. Framingham will definitely be decked out with pine wreaths, garlands, and New England flags to celebrate the arrival of the World Bowl, and they are planning a street fair with patriotic music and lots of ice cream, chowder, and greasy junk food.

In this world, many countries outside New England are still grappling with the collapse of Nazism and the resulting power vacuum. If you come to Liberated Framingham for a World Bowl game, and you turn on a TV, you are likely to see news stories about war crimes trials, refugee camps, and ongoing political instability in other parts of the world. The newscasters are very enthusiastic about telling everyone what New England is doing to help, or what viewers can do if they want to help, like where they can send donations or what charities are taking volunteers.

The St. Kanye Surge enter the fortieth World Bowl as the twenty-fifth ranked gridiron side in the world (holding this position jointly with host country Karditan), and were placed in Group F. One look at the rest of the squads in the group and the Yeezies have already jumped to the conclusion that it will be a very interesting group stage indeed.

Surge head coach Jeff Delphine spoke to his players while on board the team jet to Karditan for the opening ceremonies. "There's Kohnhead and Nagore. We're higher in rank, and we gotta play like it or risk getting upset. Buffalostan's a newcomer - those are always dangerous. Expect the unexpected. But most importantly, the big dogs. Both of these countries we beat in hoops, but this is hoops, it's different."

"Ko-oren, the defending champs. Third in the world," continued Coach Delphine. "And a nightmare for opposing offenses. Be prepared, especially you two." He pointed to new offensive coordinator Dan Shelby, who took over for Cory Myers, and starting quarterback R.J. Linetti, who after the team suffered a slump midway through last season's group stages, took over from Landon Klein. Linetti doesn't have as much of a cannon arm as the man he replaced, but is way more mobile.

"Then there's Abanhfleft. Also higher than us at thirteenth. Always a field day for the media and fans of both sides when Yeezies and Fleftics meet, so you guys give it your all." Indeed, the friendly rivalry that the purple and lime and the blue, orange and green has grown from their initial matchups in the IBC, to the Arena Bowl, the NSSCRA circuit, and now the World Bowl.

Coach Delphine kept talking, eventually being joined by Shelby and the other two coordinators Ken Kirby and Kevin Macintyre. They started describing key players of the opponents and the schemes they'll need to win. Just as the plane was approaching the runway, the Yeezie head coach made his closing remarks. "We've joined the World Bowl twice before. We've not done enough to sniff the playoffs twice before. I wish things will be different this time around. And with the help of all of you, players and staff, we can make that wish come true." Free safety Gary Bradman, the defensive captain, added, "Surge on three. One, two, three!"

"SURGE!"

World Bowl XL set to begin as Banijans introduce new coach

Image
Banijan fans during their World Cup Semifinal against Farfadillis in Pocono City

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPTIOL REGION- Of course, all eyes are on the World Cup Final about to happen in Tundra Falls. It's unavoidable. But just a few days later, Banija's other favorite trophyless national team is set to begin competition- the national gridiron team. There's no need to go through the disappointments the past few cycles have been for the Serpent Eagles. Early group stage eliminations at World Bowls 38 and 39, group stage elimination at the AO Bowl, and perhaps most disappointingly, a group stage elimination at the XIV Olympiad on home soil.

The job of Alastair Jobs (pun intended) was untenable. And so officially, Alastair Jobs retired. By all accounts, he was forced out, but due to his immense success as a college coach, he was allowed to save face and he announced his retirement before the XIV Olympiad, where he was allowed to peacefully exit stage left. And the Olympic Committee of Banija, the governing body of all sports(besides soccer and ice hockey) in Banija, cast its net far and wide to find a new coach. There was a culture change needed, badly. Everyone in Banija knew this team was capable of much more than they had accomplished so far. They wanted to make deep runs in the knockout stages, not get KO'd in group play.

And so they really searched. They wanted somebody with a track record of success, but yet somebody who was an outsider. Somebody who'd have the confidence to take a job like Banija's. There was talent in this country- this country's continued success in the Gridiron Bowl and the NSCF made sure of that. But that created expectations, which could create a raucous media environment. They searched, and searched, spending whatever extra time they had during the Olympiad casting their net. Their search, naturally, went to Ranoria, a nation where Banija's gridiron scouts are very familiar with.

And so they found Thomas Hall. A change- it harkens back to the days of Banija's early World Bowl successes, WB 28-31, when they were foundationally built on running the football and defense. The Ranorian head coach spent 8 years in the Ranorian Football League as a professional coach. He has one RFL title, and no losing seasons at the helm. He's built his teams having ferocious defenses, very physical and aggressive teams. He was a defensive back as a player, and is second all-time in RFL history with a stunning 62 career interceptions.

"I am very glad that the Olympic Committee of Banija approached me for this job." He said. "I look forward to coming here. There is great respect in Ranoria for Banija's football acumen, and the reverse is certainly true. This is not an easy job- no job is. The expectations in this seat are rightfully high. Will we need time? Yes. We have to build a good football culture for this team, for this program. We've got to get people to buy in. But we've got the talent. Jawara is there. We've got some good receivers and excellent defenders. These things take time."

"But just because these things take time, it doesn't mean we aren't going to go out there and compete. We're hitting the ground running- our first game of the tournament is at home against a top 5 team in the multiverse. It'll be a very packed house, and the fans will be deafening. We are going to show our fans, and the world, the progress and strides that we have been making as a team since my arrival, and show everyone that Banija in the World Bowl is still a force to be reckoned with."

These opening games are not easy for the Serpent Eagles. Opening against the Main Nation Ministry at home, and then travelling to Sarzonia, a perennial AO rival in essentially every sport. Two immediate early tests for Thomas Hall. But all focus on the Main Nation Ministry. It's probably too much to ask for the coach's debut against a top 5 team, but the real evaluation will be how this team performs. Will we stay in the game? Will we play hard all the way through, no matter the score? Can we make our opponents truly fear an upset? We'll find out, very soon, in our nation's capitol.

As always, go Banija!

Savojarna World Bowl XL Roster

Gridiron football is near unknown in Savojarna. There is a fringe following for Banijan gridiron thanks to Banijan expat communities in Savojagrad and Jaromirgrad, which has increasingly spread throughout the nation and infects more and more people, but overall, this is still a sport that will primarily rise eyebrows - the questioning kind, not the suspicious kind - and equipment or teams are both hard to come by. Although there are some small local leagues, the biggest of which is the Coastal Championship featuring six teams from Pawlograd, Savojagrad, and two each from Sjoedrhavn and Jaromirgrad. However, with all of those clubs being local and recreational (and many of them playing with modified rules to minimise injury risks) there is no unified federation that would even have had the ability to think about sending someone to the World Bowl. That is, until the rugby team of the small West Vestrholmer harbour town of Ljörvik, the Ljörvik Rugby Football Club, had a very special night.

Following their training, this third-division (hence fully amateur) club was talking about how it'd be sad that none of them would ever get to represent their province domestically or their country internationally, when one of them had an idea. Flyhalf Staale Amundsen had a brother who was recently getting into the Banijan gridiron leagues, and drunk as they were, their response was "how hard could it be?". One of them had a friend, called Terje Brundtland, who had been on exchange to the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, and had gotten into playing some recreational football at his university there. Quickly, they grabbed together some people and did what many thought of as impossible. They founded the Massively Athletic, Dynamic, Lovely Association of Dedicated Savojars Playing Gridiron Football (remember, they were drunk), and registered it with the World Bowl authorities as the national Savojar gridiron foundation. A little chat with a friendly man from the authorities later, Ljörvik Rugby Football Club, a bunch of their friends, and local friendly rugby rivals Njoror Ljörvik were travelling to Karditan as the National Gridiron Team of Savojarna.

COACHING:
There isn't really much of a coaching team to speak of, really. The head coach of the team is Wil Brisco, originally hailing from Drawkland but now living in Savojarna, and a work colleague of Center Halvor Aagard; having played in high school in Drawkland and moving from a gridiron-crazy nation fairly recently, he was considered the most qualified man for the job. His assistants are three Savojars. Ilari Ohlqvist is the older brother of Valtteri Ohlqvist and took a liking to gridiron football when he was studying abroad, much like Brundtland, but didn't make it onto the team as a player due to injury. Similarly, Per Olsson is a veteran player at LRFC who enjoys watching Banijan and Drawkian gridiron online; being too old to play himself, he asked to join the team. Finally, Lars Jacobsen is simply the head coach of the rugby team, but didn't wanna miss out on the travel with his team. Jacobsen will probably somewhat try to keep his boys in shape, but he's just as aware that they're amateurs.

TEAM:

Remember, with this team, player positions are a bit fast and loose. Brisco is doing his best to make it look like his team is actually playing gridiron football, but it may not always succeed.

MADLADS Playing Gridiron Football's official National Savojar Gridiron Team:

EQUIPMENT:
For simplicity reasons (and budget reasons), the team picked up a bunch of generic dark blue gridiron jerseys with some black accents through an online bulk manufacturer. Then, the mum of Thorbjörn Stenberg hosted the team as they all printed a big red Savojar star on the front, and their numbers and names on the back. Numbers and names are hand-drawn by the players, so they may not be entirely uniform. They then did the same thing with a white shirt (having the same black accents because, well, they were a manufacturer design they didn't entirely choose). The helmets are also bulk-ordered with a hand painted number on them, and will be navy.

RP PERMISSIONS:
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Only light ones
Godmod Injuries to my players: Yes
Suspend my players: Yes, but they are here for light-hearted fun, keep that in mind. Also, if Savojars get violent, they will always fight hard, but with an emphasis on honour and fairness.
Godmod suspension events: TG or DM me on discord
Godmod other events: TG or DM me on discord.

People are encouraged to RP the Savojars doing stuff that doesn't make sense in the context of gridiron - remember those are all amateur rugby players who came here because it sounded like a really fun trip.
MT socialist (mostly) island state - Cultural mixture of Scandinavia, Finland and Russia -Exports iron, steel, silver and wood - Low fantasy in terms of animal species - Sports-loving - 22.8 million inhabitants.

The adjective is Savojar; Savojarnan is not a word!
I am a student of (European) politics, ice hockey fan, left-wing communist bordering on anarchy, and European federalist. Enjoy!

NEWMANISTAN ROCKETS

WORLD BOWL 40 ROSTER

"Proudly underachieving since World Bowl I"

Starters (Offense) (Standard Formation listed, but many formations are used)
QB- #3- Brian Scanlon, 28, Centralia Firebirds
HB- #21- Thomas Browning, 30, Dover City Mountaineers (Averages 65% of carries)
FB- #45- Devlin Grier, 32, Pocono City Capitals
WR- #84- Stephon Sutton, 27, Pocono City Capitals
WR- #81- Lucas Jackson, 26, Nashua Broncos
TE- #88- Geoffrey Poindexter, 27, Olympia Gladiators
LT- #79- Davis Alfonso, 32, Jessicaville Millionaires (Offensive Team Captain)
LG- #65- Byron Vanetti, 28, Centralia Firebirds
C- #61- Anthony Greene, 25, North Charlotte Wildcats (First Time Starter)
RG- #60- Royce Samuel, 29, Loudon Leopards
RT- #77- Nate Hayward, 29, South Tier Seagulls (First Time Starter)

About the offense:
This group is almost entirely in tact from World Bowl 39, and many of them go back to World Bowl 38. This will lead to criticism of head coach Marvin Dineen, who continues to be brought back time and time again despite the underachievement of the team and his perceived boring play calling.

Starters (Defense) (The Rockets Generally Use a 4-3 Base)
DE- #98- Lenny Bailey, 29, Southport Tigers
DE- #95- Dontae Riddick, 28, Jessicaville Millionaires
DT- #72- Darien Francona, 31, Springfield Thoroughbreds (Defensive Captain)
DT- #90- Cole Whitlock, 26, Jessicaville Mariners
ILB- #54- Jerome Blanchard, 29, Tundra Falls Mariners
MLB- #52- Kelvin Spencer, 27, Pocono City Capitals
OLB- #56- Anthony Guyton, 28, Pocono City Capitals
FS- #39- Richard Clayborne, 25, North Charlotte Wildcats
SS- #22- Desmond Jenkins, 28, Olympia Gladiators
CB- #25- Alejandro Booker, 30, Southport Tigers
CB- #23- Corey McManus, 27, Putnam Lake Eagles

About The Defense:
In World Bowl 38, there was a large youth movement with the starting defense of the team. They played well that year, and were certainly not the reason we did not meet expectations. Many were brought back for 39, and now with many in their prime, there is no apparent need to shake up this group right now.

Bench (Offense)
QB: #7- Kyle Kreiter, 26, Jessicaville Millionaires
QB: #14- Damion McGinn, 31, Tundra Falls Mariners
HB: #32- DeAndrew Moore, 29, Daytopia Racers (30% of carries)

THE ROCKET REPORT

WORLD BOWL TO OPEN IN SOUTHPORT

by Taylor Larson,

World Bowl 40 is about to begin, and Newmanistan will be opening at home against the Ponies of Equestria. Traditionally, this game would be scheduled at the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds, but with the World Cup 86 Final being played there today, between the nations of Banija and Nephara, it was better for everyone involved to let one form of football play there, and for the other form of football to be far away from it. A huge crowd is expected for the World Cup final, as two passionate fan bases send droves of fans, with lovers of the sport traveling from all over the multiverse to watch the game. Add in the thousands of Newmanistanians who want to watch the game live, and Tundra Falls is going to be packed. The promise was already made that there would be no other games at the facility, but as far as the gridiron team was concerned, it was best to not be anywhere near them. Far from the distractions, and playing in the southwest of the Empire in Southport. Everyone wins with that move, now we shall see if the team can open up the tournament with a victory.

The roster is not much different from last time out and that will make some people scratch their heads, but in reality this is not a team that played badly in World Bowl 39. In fact, they finished as the fourth place team, overall. So, why not bring them back. My former boss, Brianne Henry, would have criticized them and especially head coach Marvin Dineen but as the new senior writer here at the Rocket Report, I am going to try to be a little more patient with him. Yes, his play calling is unimaginative, but sometimes he can surprise you with some trickery. By the way, yes I am the senior writer now. In case you missed it, Brianne announced her retirement at the beginning of the World Cup, calling that the last competition that she would ever cover. I owe a lot to Brianne, she really helped me as a writer and I look forward to being here for many years to come!

Some Luck in the Air for Celridge?
As the Harriot-led Voodoo enter the 40th World Bowl, can perhaps the historic edition measure some luck to the team and it's ambitions?

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — Roughnecks and fans alike, welcome back to international football, and your national representatives, the Celridge Voodoo! Joel Turnbull and his Cursed Crew return for yet another appearance into the World Bowl as they continue to pursue their goal of a semi-final appearance of better, they've come close recently. In both the 38th and 39th they made it past the first group stage only to barely miss out in the second group stage, and with a longer time to train and practice thanks to better coordination between Celridge, roster invites and the AGL, optimism is high that they may finally have what it takes to push forward into a deep playoff run.

Central to a majority of the offseason talk around the Voodoo this year as been the conversation around starting quarterback Nicholas Harriet and offensive coordinator Matthew Evans; in all of the Voodoo's Bowl appearances thus far, playcalling was handled by Joel Turnbull though Evans had a small influence in play design and putting together the overall playbook. However, Evans is also the head coach of the Jedburgh Jets during the international off-season and in the last two seasons has managed to turn an otherwise sleepy, bottom cellar team into a very entertaining production, which has found a way to capitalize on offense even without big-name players or talent. Now in the World Bowl where the Voodoo represent the domestic best (theoretically) that Anthor has to offer, many are excited has head coach Turnbull announced that he was ceding playcalling ability on the offense to Evans, and that an all new playbook had been assembled over the offseason, a culmination of three years work and is expressively tailored around Harriet. At 6'4 and just over two hundred pounds, Harriet has received critique for not being mobile enough with how light he is, something that hampered him in his first few seasons as he struggled to have time to pass with a horrible offensive line. Now, both domestically and internationally, he has much better protection, which should give him plenty of time to flash that cannon-arm of his towards any one of his targets, though I bet Markus Spurr remains his favorite, and rightfully so with his innate ability to come up clutch late with some spectacular close catches.

On the defensive end of things, DC Oliver O'Sullivan couldn't help but smile in beaming pride when speaking of his unit, which had a number of new inclusions including the widely acclaimed Somerled Forester, a familiar name for you Bowerstone Bolts fan as the hefty 315 pound nose tackle played superbly there for three seasons, winning two bowls and was a first round draftee into the AGL this year where he has helped restore some of the defensive legacy in Monmouth. Also joining the defense, Isidore McKinney who is also a fellow Bolts graduate and even in his sophomore professional season perhaps in the Top 9 most talented pass rushers in the entire league, racking up double digit sacks in every one of his pro seasons so far. O'Sullivan made it clear that with Forester and McKinney added into the mix, the Voodoo would be switching to a Base 4-3, seeking to use the extra pressure at the front to stretch the gaps and allow any one of the linemen to slip through, or even a agile linebacker. Situational focus and play reading was one of the most emphasized skillsets in this offseason O'Sullivan has stated a number of times and he has been impressed at his linebacker corps ability to work in concert with the line to know when to drop off the coverage and press the pass rush hard to force a throw out where a defensive back can potentially capitalize on an error; O'Sullivan has warned to expect much more pass rushing then Voodoo fans are rushed too.

On the offense, I'd say continue to expect to see alot of the spread offense, they're going to look to put their receivers corp through alot of snaps to wear the opposing defensive backs out, but we've also glimpsed from some of their training camps the offense practicing out of the wishbone formation, which has alot of potential I think particularly if they utilize their backs correctly; all three of the ones on the roster are more ground-pounding bruisers but Lewis Davis has shown the ability to be explosive out of the swing or pitch, and with some improved run blocking over last's years O-line unit, they could potentially break open a few big plays with that set up.

The Iron Legion
Chromatika Returns to World Bowl

Five to Watch

As Chromatika returns to the World Bowl as an unranked nation (with the Felswyr State University Firehawks also entering the NSCF), the nation is wondering whom to watch if The Iron Legion are to cause any upsets in the Group Stage. Due to being the only unranked team in the group, Chromatika's aspirations are to glean three wins and finish in fifth place while playing with discipline, respect, and heart.

Without further ado, here are the five players to watch in this cycle of gridiron football:

Cara Setri - 22 year old Outside Linebacker

Setri, a senior at Felswyr State University, is a side-to-side outside linebacker with great speed and instinct. She can really fly to the ball, or provide decent coverage. Outside of that, she is also one the leaders of the defense and a tone setter. If there is a fifth rusher, it's likely to be either her or strong safety Candice Jones.

Mi-Hyeon Park - 19 year old Middle Linebacker

Though she is the Defensive Captain, she is one of the youngest players on the squad. A born leader, she is a master at tackling and also not bad in coverage. A bit on the smaller side for a middle linebacker, but she plays much bigger than she is.

Sara McAllister - 18 year old Kicker

Ms. Automatic, Sara McAllister is very reliable if the kick is under forty yards. She doesn't have that big of a leg, though. She was scouted by the Chromatik Football Federation for a number of years before committing to gridiron football.

Morris Isaacs - 29 year old Running Back

If Chromatika is winning, it'd be because they're winning the time of possession and getting Isaacs going. He's big and mean, but can be a bit injury-prone. Hopefully, he'll get more than thirty carries per game, and lead the way.

Niles Gwivern - 20 year old Tight End

A natural athlete through and through, Niles can do it all - block, catch, and be a physical presence. Very good on third downs, too.

Chromatika opens up against Hapilopper, ranked #50 in the world. With the likes of Drawkland, Delaclava, Pridnestrovia, and HUElavia in the group, it'll be a tough endeavor nonetheless for the Legion. However, it should provide some decent entertainment.

World Bowl XL: New Tournament Preview

WORLD BOWL XL: NEW TOURNAMENT PREVIEW
Written By: Hayley Powell and Chuck Paul

Oh yeah baby, it's World Bowl time. While the Drawkland-hosted World Cup 86 is coming to a close, attention is now shifting to the tournament we love the most ... the International Cup of 7ball World Bowl! This edition is one that a lot of Drawkians will be watching. Well, there's always a lot of us watching, but this one in particular will be heavily viewed across the nation. Why is that, you might ask?

GRID CORPS HISTORY
Consider this. Drawkland's first title came from a shock run in only our third World Bowl, World Bowl XXX hosted in Ethane. This was in a transitional period for the World Bowl ... the Allamunnic Dynasty was beginning to wane, and no nation was really waiting in the wings to take advantage of it. This is how the Grid Corps snuck through a lucky playoff draw and a couple upsets to take the crown over Abanhfleft in dominant fashion. For the next five Bowls, we were a completely different team. Instead of being a midmajor squad trying to luck into a playoff run, we had become a nation used to the playoffs and always aiming for a title.

For the next four Bowls though, Drawkland faltered. Various playoff exits, some in the quarterfinals, some in semifinals, and a third place win to our names, but the title continued to elude us. Then came World Bowl XXXV, which at the beginning seemed as innocuous as any of our previous Bowls. We actually had a shoddy group stage, where Main Nation Ministry outplayed us and won the group. We still powered through the playoffs though, defeating both Pridnestrovia and Abanhfleft, and managing to take down the bogey Main Nation Ministry in the semifinals. The matchup against old-timers Taeshan proved to be tough. Still, we took the title, though in less convincing fashion than the XXX final against Abanhfleft.

The four World Bowls since this second title were a mirror of the Bowls between XXX and XXXV, but at a higher level. Instead of midway playoff exits and a single semifinal appearance, we had two final appearances and another third place win, being so much closer to a third glory but falling short once again. For those counting at home, Drawkland has now two first place finishes, two runner-up finishes, and two third place finishes. I feel it's relevant to mention that every time Drawkland has made the semifinals of the World Bow, they have come away with a podium position. I guess this is a fancy way of saying we've never lost a third place match, but still.

THE POWER VACUUM
Now we reach World Bowl XL. If you believe in statistical trends, Drawkland is destined to win this one. Of course, I've just completely jinxed us, so I'd suggest betting on literally any other team. Anyway, there is another thing that's special about this World Bowl, besides the whole "multiple of 10" thing that makes any tournament of that kind notable. Thanks to the absence of the Free Republics from this edition due to a nuclear incident or something, there is now a massive power vacuum at the top of the World Bowl ranks.

Points-wise, Free Republics held nearly a two-point rank lead over second placed Ranoria, even after including their loss to Ko-oren in the World Bowl XXXIX championship. Now, not participating in this World Bowl, the top spot belongs to Ranoria. However, Ranoria doesn't have such a large lead on their fellows below them. There are 3 nations within two points of Ranoria, meaning the Top 5 nations (minus FFR) are all essentially even and itching for a title. Of Ranoria, Ko-oren, Main Nation Ministry, and Drawkland, there's no telling who has a chance of coming away with this title.

There's also some other nations with a reasonable shot at a World Bowl title, that being Allamunnic States (damn, they're still kicking?), Cassadaigua, and Newmanistan. Wow, that's a lot of old names, huh? Outside of the top "five" they're easily able to compete for a title. But here's the other thing: Newmanistan is ranked 10th. Not only are the World #1s in the Free Republics not participating, but the national teams of Taeshan (#7) and Vangaziland (#9) aren't participating in this edition either. The Top 10 is going to compress, especially once this edition concludes. There's no telling who's going to come out on top. It's at the time where it'll come down to who has the most ideal group stage and, by extension, playoff draw.

I don't know where to put this, but basically, the last two times Ko-oren won the World Bowl, they beat us in the playoffs. So let's just hope we don't have to face Ko-oren in the playoffs, because we'll probably lose and they'll come away with the title. The only time Ko-oren won the World Bowl without beating us was before we participated, so I feel that's irrelevant.

GROUP STAGE PREVIEW
Moving on, I have become more inebriated, so prepare for an extremely haphazard group stage preview! WOOO!

Drawkland have been drawn into Group E for this World Bowl. Obviously, we will be looking to win the group and get a favorable playoff seed. Fortunately, our group seems pretty convenient towards that end. Even being #5, the fourth seed in the pots, we've gotten lucky with our draw. We're gonna look at each of our groupmates by their pot seeding, not by the schedule.

First up we have Delaclava, our new rivals starting from last Bowl where we split the matchup with them in the World Bowl XXXIX group stage. However, their win against us came in overtime. I think, with them being ranked #16 and us #5, we may be able to get lucky and come away with wins both home and away. The away tilt against Delaclava will be our hardest of the group stage, so don't surprised if we come away with a loss. If we do the double on Delaclava, our chances of a high playoff spot will be very high.

Next is Pridenstrovia, who've fallen from grace since their World Bowl XXXVI win against us. We might've gotten smashed in that title game, but we've remained among the highest of World Bowl competition cycle after cycle, while the Pridnestrovians have slowly tanked in the rankings. Now, they're a midline Pot 3 team. As the pot 1 team, we realistically should be able to win both matchups, but this squad is still talented. The away tie against them could easily become a trap match, so we've got to be careful.

The Pot 4 nation in our group is HUElavia, who are probably known better for their skill on the soccer pitch than the gridiron. Still, this is a squad we can't afford to drop points to. Once again, we should be able to do the double on them, but don't be surprised if they pull an upset on us.

Pot 5 for us is in the ranked Hapilopper. This is more of an unlucky pull, considering less than half of Pot 5 is ranked, so pulling the #50 ranked Hapilopper is a bit of an unlucky draw. Still, we should be able to win both matches, but they have experience on the World Bowl stage. Never say never, after all! We need to keep on our toes.

Finally, our bottom pot nation is Chromatika. Once again, garbage! An "unranked" nation which experience on other national stages? That's not fair at all. Nearly all the other Pot 6 teams are gridiron squads which have never seen the light of day, but we have to face the ones with an ounce of experience? Ridiculous! We'll probably do the double on them, but still! At this point, I'm convinced that the Karditani officials are trying to pull a fast one on us.

PLAYOFF PICTURE
Okay, I'm mostly just kidding about that last one. Still, we have to be careful with this group draw. Literally none of the nations in our groups are your generic two-win nobodies, so this could prove disastrous about it. Losing a random group stage game can make big differences in regards to your playoff draw and rank results, and we know this fact very well. We have to go hard every match and ensure we don't get caught off guard. The very title run depends on it!

Of course, as many Drawkians believe, #TheTimeIsNow. We won World Bowl XXX and XXXV. We'll probably lose in the playoffs as we always do in World Bowl XL, but this is our shot. The top is going to be tightly contested; there's no dynasties in our way. We just need a lucky playoff draw and some great results. Our team is as skilled as always, as now our QB in Dustin Beck and RB in Jack Hoy are not rookies, but seasoned veterans ready to tear up the turf.

At this point, we just need some luck and proper execution. Quentin Averfel has proved he can lead this team to a title before, and he can do it again if the players just do their job. We'll all be rooting for Drawkland here ... so let's hope we get what we need. For this World Bowl, all those before, and all those beyond ... let's do it. On Corps.

What Should We Expect Out of Top-Seeded Ranorian Team in This World Bowl?

Image
Head coach Raul Nieler (left) and starting quarterback Derek McNair (right) will be looking to get their team over the hump this season
The Krauts had a marvelous start a year ago. 10 straight wins in the group stage, even when most of the offensive starters were benched in the final game. Derek McNair averaged 274 passing yards per game at 11.26 per clip, totaling 22 touchdowns against just 4 total turnovers. He, of course, will be the key cog in this football team. But he’s not alone. Vice Jackson III mauled opponents with 903 rushing yards in 9 games, while being an effective receiver to boot, and do we even need to mention Johnny Farmer? Nine games, nine touchdowns.

Back to our star quarterback though. The two time MVP nearly won a third with a career year. 4,450 yards and 33 touchdowns through the air, 531 yards and 7 scores on the ground. He advanced his team to the quarterfinals, blasting through the wild card round, but fell to his Richardson successor John Garrett’s undefeated Hogs there in a 41-34 heartbreaker. Expect him to be coming with a vengeance this World Bowl.

Now, we certainly slipped up in the tournament a year ago, and the roster, well, hasn’t changed much. But head coach Raoul Nieler has been very vocal about his plans. There have been a few key additions to the coaching staff. First, Konstantin Hoffmeister, their new defensive coordinator, will hope to more effectively use a strong pass rush to keep opponents on their heels along with their new pass rush consultant, Thomas ‘Brawler’ Kandler. Kandler was the defensive end and best of the famed ‘fearsome foursome’ unit for the Massachusetts Pioneers. He helped them win two titles as a player, and is the only defensive player to ever win MVP. Kandler, the second in RFL history for career sacks with 138.5, will hope to impart some of his knowledge to a young defensive line.

And finally, quarterbacks coach Raphael Rosenburger has apparently been turning heads as a potential up and comer in coaching circles, and is getting along splendidly with all three of the Krauts passers.

However, Nieler said the biggest thing is not making the mistake of resting his top guys again. “We lost momentum,” he told reporters, “Our guys lost their mojo, and you can’t get that back before it’s too late. We’re shooting for a title this season, and as the top ranked team in the tournament, we aren’t taking anyone by surprise anymore.”

If last season is anything to go off of, Darnell Sleight, William Teller, Kevin Gerhart, and Emmanuel Miller are going to be the guys they rely on on defense. Sleight emerged as a near-shutdown level corner last World Bowl, and did well in Ranoria’s domestic season to follow that up. The other three each had over five sacks in the last world bowl, and are monstrous defenders who will be asked to disrupt the offense in every stage of the game. Nieler seems confident, and rightfully so, in this unit to do their share.

There is some bigger news, however. The team is currently on contract negotiations with veteran defensive end Zach Skinner, who would be an upgrade over William Teller and allow the team more versatile and rotations along an already tough defensive line, as well as Julius Volt, who plays both end and 3-technique tackle, and will serve the same purpose. Even bigger news is that Ross Monarch, a perennial all-pro inside backer, will be joining by week 4 at the latest, as he is currently recovering from umbilical hernia surgery from the regular season. With such a putrid linebacking core, this would easily be the biggest signing. These three men could take the defense from a top-heavy unit to an unstoppable force, coupled with an electric offense.

We’ll see if these plans bear fruit, but if they do, Ranoria is certainly the favorite to win the title this season. Go Krauts!

The first match for the Sarzonian national gridball team was one that Stars coach Les Steckhall warned could be a trap match. After all, Sarzonia were facing unranked North Alecia side just before the gauntlet of three consecutive matches against the higher ranked sides in Group D.

Not only that, but four of the first five matches were away, with only the match against multi-sport rivals Banija in front of the home supporters at Joe Gibbs Stadium in Woodstock.

He needn't have worried. The Stars pressured North Alecia into six sacks and five turnovers, including three interceptions and Sarzonia rolled to a 17-3 victory that silenced the sold out crowd.

"We got a decent effort out of our offence," Steckhall said. Sarzonia grinded out 397 yards of total offence including 154 yards rushing. Quarterback Sam Rosen completed 18-of-27 passes for 293 yards and a 36-yaed touchdown to wide receiver Steve Swain. Running back Ty'Relle Clinton ran 24 times for 109 yards and a 13-yard score.

"We did a decent job of keeping Rosen upright," left tackle Matt Frost said. The line allowed two sacks, but they were both in the fourth quarter with Sarzonia already ahead by two touchdowns.

Sarzonia hosts rivals Banija at Joe Gibbs Stadium at 8:15 p.m. Sarzonian Standard Time.

It's always a good idea to start a tournament with a win, especially when playing at home. The fans of the St. Kanye Surge national gridiron team certainly got what they paid for when they arrived at Pencurve Electronics Field in Kardashia, St. Kanye, for the team's World Bowl XL opener. The boys in purple and lime, ranked joint twenty-fifth in the world, squared off against 37th-ranked Kohnhead and came away with the W, 40-10. Surge quarterback R.J. Linetti finished with 18 of 23 passes completed for 275 yards and three touchdowns, for a 156.07 passer rating. He also had six carries for 68 yards and one rushing TD. "It's a great win against Kohnhead, but here's the thing: if we beat a team once, you just know they'll go out and improve themselves so as to not suffer the same fate next time around. We'll definitely be watching out for that," he said.

1Q - STK Linetti 16 run (Rasputin kick) STK 7-0
Even at the very start of the game, the crowd was already going wild. Taylor Johns evaded a few defenders and looked ready to convert the opening kickoff into six points, but was tackled at the 16-yard line. On the very next play though, the Yeezies were able to draw first blood with a rush from their new starting QB.

1Q - STK Dobler 34 pass from Linetti (Rasputin kick) STK 14-0
A few sequences later, the Surge doubled their output with a pass from Linetti to star wide receiver Bruce Dobler, who caught it with one hand.

2Q - KHD Field goal K 38 STK 14-3
In the second quarter, the visitors would finally get on the board. It would only be their third trip past midfield, and would have to settle for a field goal no thanks to St. Kanye's tough defense.

2Q - STK Dobler 47 pass from Linetti (Rasputin kick) STK 21-3
Dobler hauled in his second TD catch of the day, soaring past two defenders and zipping to the endzone for the score.

2Q - STK Jackson 16 pass from Linetti (Rasputin kick) STK 28-3
Fullback Nico Jackson caught the pass from the same distance as Linetti's rush earlier, giving the Surge a four-score lead at halftime. "Okay, we're up 28-3. This is not a safe lead however. A comeback's highly possible, so let's keep the same intensity and don't give our opponents that pleasure," Surge head coach Jeff Delphine told his players in the locker room.

3Q - STK Safety, Dawson tackled QB1 in end zone STK 30-3
A great punt from Chris Florence pinned the Kohnheadians down in their own 9-yard line. The visitors went incompletion, sack by nose tackle Robby Edison, then another sack by defensive end Matt Dawson for a safety.

3Q - STK Sherman 57 run (Rasputin kick) STK 37-3
With four receivers lined up, Linetti looked ready to pass, but it was a fake to the running back Noah Sherman, who spun and juked his way for a TD. This trick play was brought to us by St. Kanye's new offensive coordinator Dan Shelby.

4Q - KHD WR1 23 pass from QB1 (K kick) STK 37-10
kohnhead scored a touchdown for the first time in the fourth quarter, but by then it was too late. Coach Delphine rested his starters for the last fifteen minutes of the match.

4Q - STK field goal Rasputin 42 STK 40-10
The Surge's ever accurate kicker James Rasputin doinked this field goal in for the final tally.

St. Kanye found themselves with the early lead in Group F, due to the other two results being total snoozefests (Abanhfleft 3-nil Nagore and Ko-oren 7-nil Buffalostan). As for other notable results in other groups:

- Hosts Karditan took down Shiatoru in yet another low-scoring affair, 6-3.
- World #2 Ranoria, the top team in the tournament due to numero uno Free Republics' no-show, blasted Space by a 30-10 score.
- The Xanneria Maroons gave defending Arena Bowl titleholders Kriegiersien a rude World Bowl welcome, beating them 36-7.
- The Sarzonia Stars, the Surge's Arena Bowl rivals, rolled off to a 17-3 victory over newcomers North Alezia.
- Recent NS World Cup champs Banija squeaked past the Main Nation Ministry, 7-6.
- World Bowl powerhouses Drawkland asserted dominance over HUElavia, 211-0.
- Cassadaigua recorded the biggest beatdown of the day, repulsing Northwest Kalactin, 39-7.

The Yeezies remain in Pencurve Electronics Field for their next matchup, against unranked Buffalostan; Kohnhead returns home, hoping to rebound as they play world #74 Nagore.

NSFB: Jags Start Strong With Shutout Win!

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Oct 13, 2020 10:34 am

TJUN-ia's schedule for group stage play at WBXL can be described as 2 halves - a "road" half and a "home" half. Due to the scheduling by tournament hosts Karditan, 4 of TJUN-ia's opening 5 games will be on the road including a massive triple-threat of road games against Quebec, Cassadiagua and Northwest Kalactin. This sounds like hell but for Head Coach Gus McKerrin, the focus should be on the now. So let's do just that as the Jags kicked off their campaign in Saltstead, the road uniforms in full effect.

After the 7-3 campaign last time out, many feel that WB40 will be the year that TJUN-ia finally makes the big time in reaching the playoffs and some may feel this is possible. But to reach the playoffs, TJUN-ia has to take down very good opposition across these 10 games and momentum will be key with this schedule. Jake Griffin, however, didn't care about all that: he wanted to play some football and within 10 minutes he found Hubert Valois on a 2nd and 6 play for a 13 yard TD. They still have it and so does kicker Chi On-Ma, who converted the kick for 2 to make it 7-0 Jags despite the pressure from the home fans.

The play on the field was slow, but what did you really expect? The Jags were playing their first game in less than a year and Saltstead were laying their first-ever game...period. But while Saltstead struggled to do anything with the ball, at least the Jags got some points on the board. It would take until the 3rd quarter for Jake Griffin to find the end zone again, this time using the QB-sneak to his advantage from 4 yards out. Chi was brilliant again and the Jags were 14-0 up. After that, on came some reserves which meant the first appearance of Allister Ghoulson at QB. He got some good throws in but no TDs on this night. He did get the team to good enough range, however, for backup Yu Suzuki to have a go at kicking the ball for the first time. From 32-yards out, he hit it clean and straight and that scored TJUN-ia's final points of the night.

It may be slow, but this game helped McKerrin's Jags get back on track and back to playing good football. But now, here comes the true test of how ell this unit is as we head back to New Washington for a date with the Transmondian Commonwealth of New England. The last time we faced TCNE was our Game 1 at WB38 when Drew McAllister took advantage of a fumbled snap from Philip Nantucket (Rubble) to win TJUN-ia's first-ever game on the final play. Both teams and both players concerned remember that day in the Free Republics very well and it will be interesting to see how both teams get on in this long-awaited rematch in The Gardens. GO JAGS!

Jersey of Hoa pili Ah-Fuck Causes Controversy
Hoa pili Ah-Fuck is a cornerback on the national gridiron team of Laahana. He is one of the Star cornerbacks on the teams tenacious pass defense, that includes some very skilled players. Laahana runs a 46 Bear, so they need all the help back on the defensive end they can get. Despite this, Hoa pili Ah-Fuck has recently become disliked by many fans due to his last name. Some fans of the Laahana National Team were started saying “I don’t want my kids hearing anyone say that word, I request that Hoa pili change his name, or at least the name on his jersey to a less profane word.”

Hoa pili responded by saying “I didn’t choose my last name! If you want me to change my name, you can walk your ass straight down to the government and request them to change my name, if they say no, then I am keeping my name as is.” This story will certainly bring some publicity to the relatively unknown Laahana team, but that may be the fuel they need to start playing well. The coach of the Laahana team has no comments on the matter, and intends to let the players choose what to do.

Laahana started with a 13-0 loss to Greater Vakolicci Haven, they were not able to move the ball at all on the strong defense of GVH, and would go on to give up 13. ‘Iolani Hale threw for 132 yards and ran the ball for 26, and was picked off twice by the strong defense of GVH. Laahana will be looking for an improvement soon, but they will not have an easy schedule coming up, facing Main Nation Ministry, Sarzonia and Banija just to name a few.

Where were you when Squidroidia got beaten 27-7 by the Allamunnic States?

No Squidroidians were at that game to see their army team beat to a pulp against higher ranked opposition. It was the World Cup final, terribly overlapping the start of the gridiron championships and causing nothing less than many thousands of Allamunnians and Allamunians only to pack their field to kick off the season.

A legion of Squidroidians were travelling, but not to the AS. They were in Tundra Falls, Newmanistan, watching the ball kick to start the 86th championship game of association football - Banija vs Nephara. It was such a big deal that SBN 1 covered the game, relegating the World Bowl opener for the Flyers over to SBN Sport. Nobody aside from the families of the players of that game watched on television.

With no away fans, the Allamunnic States had a home field advantage. A big one. It was insurmountable for the Flyers, the army gridiron football team. Nobody was watching them walk out of the field embarrassed and beaten by 3 scores.

They were watching Banija lift the Cup.

Terre Septentrionale blanks The Orion Islands

Szentgyörgyvölgy, Barania - On week 1 of the World Bowl, Terre Septentrionale received The Orion islands at Gyertyatarto Park in Szentgyörgyvölgy. Gyertyatarto means "candlestick" in Hungarian and this stadium is the home of the Szentgyörgyvölgy 49ers. Nothing to say about the 1st quarter and it ended with the score of 0-0. Terre Septentrionale scored early in the 2nd quarter when Jennifer Killebrew caught Haylie Woo's 18 yards pass in the endzone for a touchdown and the score was 7-0. The Nordiques added 3 more points in the final minutes of the 2nd quarter when Nick DeLuca's 38 yards kick was good and the score was 10-0 at the halftime.

Terre Septentrionale made a 46 yards field goal midway in the 3rd quarter. Then, when they got the ball back, the Reprezentacja Nordycki were already in time consuming mode and, following a 7 minutes long drive, Montavious McBryde scored a 6 yards touchdown. The score was 20-0 and it was the final score.

BOXSCORE

1ST QUARTER
No score

2ND QUARTER
13:21 - Touchdown by Jennifer Killebrew (18 yards pass from Haylie Woo). Extra point by Nick DeLuca.
0:45 - Field Goal by Nick DeLuca (38 yards).

3RD QUARTER
6:24 - Field Goal by Nick DeLuca (46 yards).

4TH QUARTER
12:38 - Touchdown by Montavious McBryde (6 yards run). Extra point by Nick DeLuca.

Group A

Terre Septentrionale is now in 1st place in group A tied with Newmanistan and Karditan. Other teams in the group are Equestria, Shiatoru and The Orion Islands, who we just beat 20-0. Newmanistan and the Northmen will likely fight for 1st place and will both qualify for the playoffs. Hosts Karditan and Equestria will be looking to bump one of these teams and sneak into the playoffs. Terre Septentrionale's next game is at home at Stade Louis-Philip Bobineau in the city of Prévost against Karditan. Louis-Philip Bobineau was the general of the Patriotes army who kicked the British troops out of Terre Septentrionale in 1837. Eldrick McLeod will be out for this game with an ankle injury and Brock Wickenheiser will replace him on the defensive line. Emilio Sanchez is probable with a nose injury.

Northwest Kalactin 7–39 Cassadaigua
Well, that is certainly a disappointing loss for the Kalactanian team, of course, we are playing a Pot 1 team, but the Kalactanians seem to be right where they used to be with a disappointing defensive performance, and a below average offensive game. Jack Russell was able to make a 14 yard pass to Lismore Christian University alum Jordan Williams to score the Kalactanians only points of the game. Star Tackle TJ Taylor had a tough job carrying the inside D-Line on his back after Blake Lucas left this past cycle, and was jammed many times by the Cassadaigua Guards and Center.

Stacey Carlson made many highlight plays for the Cassadaiguan team, which included 2 touchdown runs on the Kalactanians poor run defense. Carlson definitely capped off a good performance with an extremely nasty juke on Kalactanian inside linebacker Zach Swartz. Some press members have called the play as “disrespectful to a Kalactanian team that was already losing by a large margin of points.” Cassadaigua is not an easy team to stop on the run, and they showed that this game with 3 rushing touchdowns on the Kalactanian defense.

James Gilbert only had 39 rushing yards the entire game, and put his linemen under the bus after the game, by saying “I come out here every day and work as hard as I can, and then these guys come out and blow blocks on almost every play, I’m not gonna have that happen. These guys need to step up for their team next time and help it out. I’m doing my part, they need to do theirs.” Gilbert was tacked for a loss 7 times during the game, so many believe he is completely within his right to call out the linemen. Steve Johnson acknowledged his mistakes, and apologized to Gilbert in the locker room after the game.

The next match for the Kalactanian team will be against Saltstead, who is perhaps the most unknown team in the group. Of course, we all know their national soccer team, who has some of the most “controversial” media coverage in the world, that at some times seems to be reporting more on team name pronunciation rather than the actual game. With how we have been playing lately, this may even be tough game for us, but there is nothing stopping us from going out there and winning.

Derek McNair throws Three Touchdowns In the Extraterrestrial Dome of Sport

The Krauts came into this one is the top ranked team in this world bowl due to the number one seed not participating. McNair of course was the MVP runner-up in the domestic season, and was expected to perform well. He appears to have not lost a step since his 34-41 loss in the Ranorian Football League Quarterfinals, finishing the day with 293 yards in a game that was over, at 21-3, by halftime. In the second half, the Governors’ running game took over.

Vice Jackson would finish the game with 22 carries for 127 rushing yards on the day, with backup Elijah Sampson chipping in with 6 totes for 31 yards. The quarterback rounded up the three pronged rushing attack, scrambling 6 times and picking up 34. The team also manage three field goals missing only one, which is impressive for a Noreen kicking team. Our opponents space, only scored 10 points a bright side the bright spot for this often trouble defense.

Offensively Ricardo Jackson is still the best wide receiver on the team. He cleared 70 yards at 34 years young. He has already officially retired from the RFL, but the top receiver for the Krauts is back for at least one more World Bowl Run.

Notably, corner Darnell Sleight was quiet, as he wasn’t targeted once. Teams may have learned after his unprecedented World Bowl 39 run.

Next up should be a good old stat-padding, as Ranoria takes on unranked Kriegiersien

Doubledown Meltdown
Sluggish performance by the offense in regular play, only exacerbated by doubling down on their tone on OT the V's drop an OT Game 1 21-14

Vaumort, Anthor(Herald) — Potentially redundant question incoming for my fellow football fans; what's worse than watching offensive stars fail to communicate and produce a cohesive offensive performance during regular time? What's that you say, get taken to overtime by an unranked team and then blow it by suddenly being cautious after being hyper-aggressive all game long?

I'm not sure how Turnbull and the Voodoo specifically wanted their first game in the 50th World Bowl to go, but I can't imagine it looked like anything we witnessed after we witnessed the Tikariot Warrior Owls trump the Voodoo, 21-14 in a overtime that frankly, Celridge should have had or even, never been in the first place.

For most of the first half of play, Harriet and the offense looked wildly out of tune, and really makes you wonder if they perhaps are trying too much of an experiment on the offensive playbooks. Harriet made 24 pass attempts in the first half, but only connected on 8 of those and all of them were for less than twenty yards save for a lone 53-yard snipe to Markus Spurr as time expired before half time in a desperate Hail Mary-bid to score. I'm going to primarily single out of the offensive line, particularly tackles Charles Farmer and James Clark, and the entire receiving corp that isn't Markus Spurr. Clark and Farmer looked completely out of sync and missed block after block, letting the Owls' pass rush get through at utmost critical moments; more then once on a third and short situation did Randell Boone or Lewis Davis meet a run-for-a-loss at the hands of Vinnie Romasi, Kuresa Maiavan or Tommy Norström because of this missed blocks and the Voodoo were completely unable to establish the run game all game long; Davis made 15 attempts for 54 yards, McCrea had 7 for 23 and Boone was the lone weak piece of hope with 12 for 61, and the lone Celridge touchdown which came off of a inside power early in the third quarter. However, lone blame cannot and must not be laid at the feet of this errant tackles, because Robert Atwood was targeted so much (9 times), and dropped or missed all but a single one of this, we may have to start calling him "AtButterHandClasses". The Owls definitely did an excellent job at employing a solid Nickel or Cover 2 defensive scheme, and safety Frederick McKenzie or defensive back Isaac Molberg had Markus Spurr on double team or lock down for most of the night and limited his action heavily, and forced Harriet to seek another favorite target; he tried Atwood, failed miserably in the first and second quarter, Nazarius Abramsen and Lane Smith were no better only bringing in a few catches each and all total for less then 100 yards; Harriet only finished the day with 295 yards passing, and most of that was in that quick-fire explosive overtime where you watched the teams score more points in that limited timeframe then either had all game long to that point.

I won't blame the defense for the collapse at the end of the overtime, the Voodoo's roster is suspiciously skimpy this year despite a number of good options in the AGL and depth certainly is not one of their strong suits, and for how much of a meat grinder this match was for them I'm not surprised the defensive backs, linemen and safeties were more then a little worn out by game's end; I will commend the unit as a whole, they performed very well unlike their offensive counterparts. Debutants Somerled Forester thrilled as expected, managing to rack up 8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 sack, Isidore McKinney also joined in the fun by getting to Owl's quarterback Iese Tameifuna thrice. They got exploited in the hand with a heavy use of cut or drag routes and comebacks, but Oliver O'Sullivan is already adamant they are going to be training hard in between now and their next game against that very thing.

Their second game day will see them face down the higher-ranked Xanneria, which was intended to be their first real challenge - an excellent chance to "tune up" and prepare in having to face the reigning champions in Ranoria as they share the group and undoubtedly seek to defend their title; they'll face the V's first in game day four, and then again in game day nine. Nicholas Harriett seemed very optimistic heading into the match against Xanneria, stating that the loss here in overtime is a slap in the face and wake up call for the rest of the team to kick into gear, perform at the caliber they are truly capable of and score big wins further down the group stage, especially against the heavyweights like Xanneria and Ranoria.
