Second Vesvai Conflict (COMPLETED)

Postby Oblaren and Vesvai » Sun Sep 27, 2020 3:29 pm

OOC

(Follow-up to): 1. First Vesvai Conflict

2. Guerilla War in Vesvai

Background

The First Guerilla Uprising

In the modern history of Vesvai and in what became known by its unofficial name as the First Guerilla Uprising the armed forces, the police and intelligence agencies of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai had managed to defeat and force out armed guerillas who crossed the border from the neighboring New Vesvai, blended in with the locals and waged guerilla insurgency on the Union’s part of the territory on the Island of Vesvai.

The guerillas were made up of Vesvaian expats, dissidents and defectors who left for New Vesvai in the final years when the Dominion of Vesvai was still a sovereign state and transitioned more into authoritarianism. After the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai was founded the goal of the defectors’ first guerilla insurgency was to end the Union rule on Vesvaian land and restore Vesvaian independence. Back in New Vesvai there were several umbrella organizations, political bodies and social movements made up of other Vesvaian expats, dissidents and defectors who associated with the defector guerillas directly and indirectly. But before the first guerilla insurgency these forces originally waged practices aimed against the government of the still-sovereign Dominion of Vesvai from the territory of the neighboring New Vesvai. When Vesvai and Oblaren formed a Union State the defectors added the restoration of Vesvaian independence to their list of goals and over time it became the primary goal. This was not only the first time that defectors were ready to pick up arms and go fight on the other side of the border for an end of the Union rule in Vesvai. That was when the expat-led National Liberation Movement emerged.

Soon after the National Liberation Movement’s political division the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai also formed. Both based in New Vesvai. Eventually other similar defector-led bodies like the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai based in other cities of New Vesvai, started gaining traction. Both existed before the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai was formed. Their original objective was to resist the government of the Dominion of Vesvai from abroad. But after the Union was formed the restoration of independence became their priority. The National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai was the youngest by comparison to the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai who were around before. But the National Liberation Committee got more traction because of it being based in New Vesvai’s capital city Perloveu, having larger membership and because of its combination of efforts with the rising National Liberation Movement. Despite being ideological allies the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai saw the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai as a rival more than anything else. The National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai also rubbed the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai the wrong way by unofficially proclaiming itself to almost be like a government-in-exile of independent Vesvai claiming authority over Vesvaian lands that were part of the Union. The National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai also each had plans to declare themselves the sole government-in-exile of independent Vesvai which only raised the feeling of competition even more. It created more rifts in what should have been a common cause.

Eventually the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai met up and decided to coordinate to outweigh the more popular National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai by actually doing something of substance for the Vesvaian independence struggle. And that is when they decided to start financing, arming and training guerilla fighters to go and fight against the Union’s rule in Vesvai across the border. The National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai received support from the government of New Vesvai and Sunrisia. Eventually the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai was brought on board and all three Vesvaian defector political bodies were convinced to work together. The guerillas were initially good, but they did not manage to advance beyond the south-western border regions on the Union’s side and were pushed back by the Union army. They retreated back into the territory of New Vesvai and victory over the first guerilla insurgency was proclaimed. But even with that a training center in remote New Vesvai, close to the Union’s border, was established where a goal was set to continue transforming the guerillas into a modern capable military force that could match the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai in battle.

The Second Guerilla Uprising

What became known by the unofficial name of the Second Guerilla Uprising was brief. There were local sympathizers in the Union’s territory to the First Guerilla Uprising by defectors who came over from political asylum in New Vesvai. But these sympathizers only had improvised weapons, no real skills or training and engage in vandalism along with borderline terrorist acts like stealing police cars and blowing up colonial monuments. They were not much of a help but admittedly they were a distraction. But during their time the guerillas managed to hang out with the locals they blended among. They got food, beverages, clean clothes, other supplies from people, shelter and these locals were even willing to risk breaking the law by lying to the authorities that they hadn’t seen any guerillas around. All while hiding those same guerillas in their own homes. The bond was created there and when the guerillas got pushed back into New Vesvai the locals were willing to continue the fight inspired by their encounters with guerillas. This time they were more organized and picked up some tricks. That is how the Second Guerilla Uprising suddenly began out of nowhere and the Union engaged Internal Troops to quell this guerilla insurgency.

Obviously the locals were still not as well-organized or skilled. They were under-resourced and the closure of the Union’s borders in Vesvai’s part formally over the pandemic left any possible guerillas inside Vesvai’s part of the Union cut off from foreign supplies, foreign manpower and foreign contraband black market military tech. In some cities where Vesvaian culture was more preserved the local populace was more sympathetic towards the guerilla cause and were anti-government, anti-police and anti-military. In more Anglophone cities the populace was anti-guerilla seeing them as terrorists and supported the military and the police. In the end the guerillas were cornered and had to withdraw into the underground rebellion movement at best. The Second Guerilla Uprising did not last long. The Internal Troops and local authorities proclaimed victory once more.

Present day

Union territory, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai

Peace was back on Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. The military and the police control the Union’s part of the Island of Vesvai. There was no formal state of emergency or martial law but such a policy was a justified for a transitional period after terrorism was defeated. The local authorities needed to make sure the situation was stabilized and that a third guerilla insurgency does not appear out of nowhere. The border with New Vesvai was now more militarized and guarded than ever before.

Headquarters of the the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, Perloveu, New Vesvai, September 23

The first joint statement by the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai calling to respect the pro-independence movement in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai was rejected by Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal. It was not a Union government statement but it was still impactful especially when Mollisal outright called the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai a “political arm of terrorists.” By “terrorists” the Union’s Prime Minister was referring to pro-independence rebels who have been fighting for the rights of the pro-independence camp including with military means as a last resort. Mollisal said there should be no negotiations with terrorists and called upon the rest of the Union government in Fortwel with the inclusion of President of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Russel Kelpir and the Union’s Caretaker Parliament to support the same stance. The National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai have now realized more than ever that they were in this together. That is why the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai has decided to invite colleagues from the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai to the headquarters of the National Liberation Committee in Perloveu for a first ever meeting between the three to decide on what would be their next joint step on the political frontier.

September 26

What was supposed to be an unprecedented meeting became a three day summit against everyone’s expectations. On the third day the members of the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai held their first joint news conference at the headquarters of the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai in Perloveu. In that news conference the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai announced that they would merge into a new alliance and a grand coalition: Round Table–Free Vesvai. It would be a political force defending the rights of Vesvaians to determine their own future and call upon the Union to recognize and respect the existing pro-independence sentiment among many Vesvaians in the Union too. Round Table–Free Vesvai would also promote the idea of Vesvaian moderate nationalism and promote the idea of Vesvaian independence internationally.

September 27

The next day after Round Table–Free Vesvai announced its formation and on the same day as Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal once again declared that there should be no negotiations with terrorists while calling Round Table–Free Vesvai a political arm of terrorists with no legitimacy the new alliance resorted to its last move that it had in its disposal as a last resort. In its Perloveu headquarters Round Table–Free Vesvai had a ceremony where it took an oath to the Vesvaian people and inaugurated itself thus swearing itself in as the government-in-exile of independent Vesvai and the sole legit authority of the territory that today makes up Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Round Table–Free Vesvai now officially no longer recognizes the Union’s rule, claim, sovereignty and authority over the the territory of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai and claims it for itself.

Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, September 28

Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal was in a limousine, looking at the passed by streets through the bullet-proof window. He had his hand pressed up against his face while his elbow was up against the car door right below the window. The expression on Mollisal’s face was that of anger and frustration. But in reality he was going through a rollercoaster of emotions in his mind. All of this was because of yesterday’s declaration by Vesvaian defector-led Round Table–Free Vesvai over in Perloveu, New Vesvai that this new coalition would now be a government-in-exile of the non-existent independent Vesvai. This was problematic for a number of reasons. It undermined the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai and its territorial integrity, it further perpetuated the destabilizing separatist idea of a Vesvaian sovereign state instead of further developing the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, it threatened Fortwel’s control and Mollisal’s own government’s power in the Union State with an appearance of an alternative government, it gave all the domestic enemies a political leadership to look up to and finally, it created the potential for Vesvaian separatists to gain a status of diplomatic subjectivity internationally. No doubt the enemies of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai will support Round Table–Free Vesvai and Vesvaian separatism to destabilize the Union.

Mollisal was going through the possible options of what could be done in this situation. Although he was the second person in the nation after the President him being Prime Minister did not give him certain powers or responsibilities to handle this problem that the Union was facing. A third round of conflict related around his native Vesvaian land. Mollisal thought about what he could do as Prime Minister. He thought about going to President of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Russel Kelpir and ask him to call up some sort of a national security meeting over this whole government-in-exile business and how it threatens the Union. Mollisal was open to the idea of asking the President if he would allow him to call up such a meeting or let him establish some sort of committee to deal with the problem. At the same time Mollisal wanted to go to the caretaker Union Parliament and speak with MPs. He mostly wanted to consult with fellow Vesvaians and MPs from a fellow VHU party Robert Praesedit and Nicholas Vicina. Praesedit was a Defense Minister of the Dominion of Vesvai during the pre-Union days. So maybe he would have some advice on how to deal with a national security threat related to a defector government-in-exile and a possible resurgent guerilla threat for a third time. Mollisal told Praesedit many times that he saw him as the Defense Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai too and would be proud to have him in his cabinet or see him as Chairman of the Security Council of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. From Vicina the expectation that Mollisal had was for some diplomatic advice since this was not only a national security issue but partially a foreign policy one with New Vesvai’s involvement. Maybe Vicina would advice how to approach President Kelpir and convince him how important this was. Praesedit could do the same. Like with Praesedit, Mollisal saw Vicina as the Foreign Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai because he was the Foreign Minister of the Dominion of Vesvai in the pre-Union days. And like to Praesedit, Mollisal told Vicina many times that he saw him as the Foreign Minister of the Union. But ultimately Mollisal also was thinking through the ways of how he as Prime Minister could convince the administration of the President and MPs of the caretaker Union Parliament to legally recognize Round Table–Free Vesvai and armed guerillas as parts of a terrorist organization. There were many steps to take but Mollisal didn’t know what order to approach them in, which steps were more plausible than others and which ones to take instead of others.

Mollisal told the limo driver to take him to the nearest coffee shop since he needed a cup to help him relax his mind and then continue doing some thinking on all these problems afterwards.

Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, September 29

After a difficult day prior Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal partially gathered his thoughts. He was willing to move along with all the plans he made. Today he spoke to journalists at a news conference and listed the plans to initiate the formation of a single position of the Union government and a strategy to deal with the threat that Vesvaian separatists pose to the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Mollisal also said that there is only one single government of the Union and that is the one in the nation’s capital Fortwel. He called Round Table–Free Vesvai frauds and said that no alternative governments can be imposed on the Union from abroad. He thanked journalists and headed out while wiping his forehead with a napkin from the stress he was feeling. In secrecy Mollisal had a flask of alcohol in his briefcase too and took up smoking cigarettes. These days his smoke breaks were very frequent.

New Vesvai recognizes Round Table-Free Vesvai over the Union

Postby New Vesvai » Wed Sep 30, 2020 2:25 pm

Parliament Building, Perloveu, New Vesvai, September 30

Prime Minister Hale Aniho entered the Hall of the Parliament. She exchanged looks with MPs from her Break Out Alliance (BOA) party and then with MPs of the National Renewal (NR) party. The NR and BOA parties formed a governing coalition which held a majority of seats in New Vesvai’s Parliament and led New Vesvai’s government overall. She then gazed at the opposition MPs and they were giving her a cold stare but PM Aniho tried not to mind it. Her predecessor former Prime Minister Adi Letago warned her that the opposition would tried to burn a hole through her with their critical stairs and bury her into the ground during harsh political decisions and discussions. And today was one of those key political decisions to be made.

The importance of today’s step for New Vesvai’s government was demonstrated by the presence of the past Prime Ministers of New Vesvai at the Parliament on this day: Kai Placore, Matteas Noran, interim Raio Foranel and Adi Letago. The only former Prime Minister to be absent was obviously Beana Villano who was the third head of government and shortly headed the government overthrown in New Vesvai’s peaceful Silver Revolution. Her whereabouts are unknown but she is definitely outside New Vesvai. It’s suspected she may have been granted asylum in the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai.

The presence of the previous Prime Ministers put a smile on Aniho’s face because she saw it as a sign of support from predecessor as the first female PM since the overthrown Villano. Also present was Head Administrator Andre Tilicome a leader of New Vesvai with a ceremonial position. His presence was also inspiring for Aniho but it also made her nervous as a Prime Minister in office for less than two months and not having done that much just yet. Opposition parties were critical of Aniho and the NR-BOA government’s soft policy towards reacting to the suppression of the Vesvaian pro-independence fight in the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai along with lack of enough diplomatic and political support for Round Table–Free Vesvai.

Aniho stood behind the podium in front of MPs, the previous Prime Ministers and HA Tilicome. She took a sip of water, picked up a pen and spoke: “Okay colleagues. We all know why we are here. Mr. Speaker, can we please have the conversation started?”

45 minutes later

Although not with unanimity but still with a strong consensus that united both the government and the opposition the Parliament voted to recognize Round Table–Free Vesvai which declared itself a government-in-exile of the Vesvaian territory that’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai today, as the “Legitimate Representative of Northern Vesvaian people inhabiting the historic territory of the former Dominion of Vesvai excluding today’s sovereign state of New Vesvai.” After the vote the MPs, the former Prime Ministers, HA Tilicome and Parliament Speaker all stood up for long applause. PM Aniho applauded from behind the podium. The applauding opposition MPs nodded to each other in agreement that it was their pressure that finally forced the government to do what had been done today but should’ve been done even earlier when Vesvaian defectors formed their political bodies on New Vesvai’s territory.

Aurisi International Airport, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, September 30, 2020 2:39am

One by one, 3 Gylling Twin Turboprop utility aircraft slowly creep there way to the terminals. To those not in the know, 3 smaller regional aircraft pulling in at night is nothing to raise concern about, but to Talvistovan Senior Captain Andreas Granqvist, he knew that hell had just arrived on the island: sunalaya's boogeymen. The Sota-Meri.

4:41 am

The 40 men that made up D Detatchment of the Sota-Meri, known amongst the military as Double Dare, made quick work of exiting the airport, leaving 2 of 3 aircraft empty. The 3rd was all field communications equipment they didnt need just yet. For the time being, they where bound for the top floor of a hotel on the outskirts of town, which would act as their head quarters for the time being. Hell was now on the rebel force's doorstep.

Residence of Prime Minister Jonathan Mollisal, Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Night from September 30 to October 1

Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal was woken up by a phone call that came from the staff of his office. He was informed that the Talvistovan military elements have landed at the Aurisi International Airport on the Island of Vesvai, the Union’s territory on the island. Although nobody likes their sleep disturbed especially when it’s so hard to fall asleep at these rough times the Prime Minister was pleased to hear this news. After the phone call was finished he stood up and walked around his bedroom a little bit. Mollisal was thinking about the recognition by New Vesvai of Round Table–Free Vesvai as the legitimate government of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Mollisal pretty much knew what he was going to say tomorrow in response to this but he felt anxious about the consequences of this step by the neighboring nation. Mollisal took a full sleeping pill and went back to bed to be ready for tomorrow.

Parliament Building, Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Morning of October 2

As the limousine of Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal was approaching the Parliament early in the morning the head of government could already see an army of journalists waiting for him outside. Mollisal “facepalmed” and started rubbing his forehead and chin in frustration. He spent the whole day avoiding the press yesterday and the journalists understood that so all of them got ready to trap the head of government where he would be unable to avoid them. But Mollisal and the limo driver were not the only people at the car. The security service were there too and they reassured the Prime Minister that he would be guaranteed a safe passage towards the Parliament and protected from a press swarm. One of the security guards said “ready when you are, sir” before reaching out to open the door. Mollisal sighs and exits.

He is greeted by a bunch journalists shoving microphones, mobile phones and other recording devices in his face, along with cameras. The Prime Minister’s security quickly jumps in front of him and to his sides, pushing the journalists away to make way for Mollisal to the Parliament entry. Mollisal hangs his head low, cover his face from camera flashes and marches straight ahead with security around him. Upon making his way to the Parliament entry Mollisal does turn back after all and speaks into one of the network’s microphones where he announced that he would not comment anything now but that he would answer questions at a press conference later in the day which the journalists would be informed about on time and location of. After this declaration Mollisal headed into the Parliament wiping off the sweat on his forehead with handkerchief. He wanted to speak with MPs first and foremost with his VHU party MPs and especially Robert Praesedit.

Perloveu, New Vesvai, October 3

Prime Minister Hale Aniho just got out of the meeting with the officials of the Ministry of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army. She was told that it would be a good time to go and visit the rebel training base in one of the northern provinces on the border of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Even though it was phrased as “it would be a good time” to go and do that Aniho understood that this was call to action. At the same time she did not fully know the purpose of why the Ministry officials wanted her to do that because it was not like her or the rest of the government were planning to start a rebel incursion. That is why Aniho told herself that this was a visit that was going to be carried out with the intention of showing moral support to the defector rebels at this time. Also the rebels did need to be given recognition in this way because they have now basically become the official military under a government-in-exile that New Vesvai recognizes.

Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 4

This was a Sunday so the day was not too productive. Basically everything that Mollisal has accomplished over the week was completed on the last day of the work week: Friday. That was the day when Mollisal had the impromptu news conference outside the Municipality of Fortwel. During that he addressed the position of New Vesvai’s government on recognizing Round Table–Free Vesvai as legitimate authority over Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Mollisal was blunt at saying how it didn’t change much because New Vesvai supported the separatist terrorists and their political wing by giving them asylum, weapons and training. It also didn’t change much between the governments in Fortwel and Aurisi in terms of relations since there were none to begin with. But New Vesvai’s involvement by trying to prop up separatist positions against the Union did raise a security problem which the Prime Minister recognized. He mentioned that the Union government needed to address it. Mollisal told the journalists once more that he had not yet spoken to the President of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai and that the Parliament didn’t have a single position yet either. But he said the Union government should and will have a national security strategy.

The other productive thing he did on that weekend was visit the Parliament just as the journalist crowds were stalking Mollisal next to the building. Mollisal spoke to MPs from VHU party and told Robert Praesedit to go to Aurisi and welcome the military aid deliveries of Talvistovan Sota-Meri. The involvement of Sota-Meri in any capacity was to be kept a secret until the Talvistovans decide to maybe say something about the role of it themselves. That’s what Mollisal strictly explained to Praesedit and the latter said he already understood that earlier than Mollisal did after the two shared a laugh. Praesedit headed out to Aurisi the same day Mollisal asked him to.

As for the weekend the only updates or any conversations among government, military or intelligence officials regarding the current crisis only had Mollisal involved by phone through a discrete line.

unnamed rebel training facility, New Vesvai, 12:42am. October 5th, 2020

The rugged Genelec CRLR 900T radio fizzled to life amongst the brush outside the training outpost they had been glassing for months, shaking the radio operator awake. Legally these men where Libriran, if their falsified documents were to be believed. Even among the Sota-Meri, these men where Elite. The cream of the crop. The 1st Detatchment. The psuedo-legendary Abyssmen.

The radio buzzed twice more before the radioman was awake enough to answer it. In his eyes, anyway, being elite had no bearing on sleep schedule. He begrudgingly picked up and gave the basic codeword filled response in the slim chance they where being monitored. "Hello Cousin, I was wondering when youd get back to me about deer hunting!" and waited for a response from that uppity Senior Captain, in that cushy hotel of his with fancy radios and room service to boot. He'd struggle to even call them true Sota-Meri, the mythical boogeymen that no one lives to tell about. 'Boogeymen don't need someone to warm up their foie grois when there was pigs blood and jerky to be eaten. Alas, he had a job to do, and he knew who he had to answer to.

"This is Goalpost. Radios show no signs of tracking, free speak is a go. What do you see?" The radio barked back at him. He struggled to bite his tongue at the undoubtedly ex-desk jockey on the other end deciding it was best to not use code or even the accent they where 'born in to' in what was a borderline illegal operation. The men in the hotel had permission from the union government to be there on behalf of the Talvistovan Government, but his unit, acting under the Royal Air Force's Special Activities Division, where not even known to be in the country, and everyone knew it. Still, he took in all his training in subtlety, and responded.

"Exactly what you'd expect from a discount Republican Front. Hell, fuckers are probably even funded by them. Some big wig came by Friday. The satellite cowboys under Kvingandannes think its the prime minister of the rebels. If they're right, we might need yall sooner rather than later. Nightstalker out."

At least hopefully now they'd have something to do other than rate the bodies of the few females inside the rebel camp, and maybe even do what they where trained for.

Perloveu, New Vesvai, Afternoon of October 5

Prime Minister Hale Aniho was in the middle of a conversation with one of the officials at New Vesvai’s Ministry of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army.

“Well cut me some slack I practically just took over. Yes I know but it still hasn’t been that long. I did as the Ministry “advised” me to do. I went to the rebel training camp via helicopter and spoke with them and on Saturday of all days. They know we have their backs. No I haven’t spoken with any of their commanders in greater detail. No I haven’t spoken with any of our VRA generals either. Listen our covert policy right now is just to tell the rebels they have our support if anything of military capacity happens but I will not endorse any incursion from our side without Union provocations. That’s it. Listen the Foreign Ministry said we should recognize Round Table–Free Vesvai and that’s what we did openly. That’s what I see as a step that definitely should’ve been taken but as for anything military-related I just told you. I haven’t spoken with Round Table–Free Vesvai that much but my people have. I mean from my Office of Prime Minister if you want to get specific. So I guess I should talk to you if I need advice on how to interact with the officials of the government-in-exile? Need I remind you that you are our Defense Ministry? No listen I understand the Intelligence Directorate briefing me on that and I’ll speak to them but you? Ok you want to argue about it more I’ll call up a new briefing with you guys tomorrow ok? I have other things to address because let me remind you we have domestic affairs on agenda too. Alright I’m glad we have this understanding.”

Aniho puts down the phone.

“Ok this is a strange day. I need some fresh air.”

Border between New Vesvai and the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Evening of October 5

People have started gathering dangerously close to the positions of the Union Armed Forces at the border with New Vesvai. Citizens attempted to avoid getting into the military’s eyesight too much but they also wanted to be close enough to the border too. Locals were planning a manifestation. The suspicious internet outages only in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai blamed on foreign cyber-attacks have not kept the locals from knowing everything they needed to. In fact it was the news networks based in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai like OVNNHD and others that informed residents of everything.

Locals knew about the defector-led Round Table–Free Vesvai made up of the National Liberation Committee of Independent Vesvai, the National Council of Vesvai and the National Council of Rebellion of Vesvai. They knew that Round Table–Free Vesvai has proclaimed itself a government-in-exile based in the neighboring New Vesvai. Only the news media like OVNNHD and other networks were presenting all of them in the negative light with guerillas separatist terrorists and Round Table–Free Vesvai as their political arm. Both backed by New Vesvai and other enemies of the Union. But the locals have developed reverse psychology against the propaganda. If the state news resources were saying that something was bad it meant that it had to be good. And that meant that Round Table–Free Vesvai together with dissident guerillas based in New Vesvai and those inside Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai had to be heroic figures.

But the current manifestation that the gathered locals were planning is a second one of its kind. The locals were planning to protest the closing of the border with New Vesvai and a demand that they be allowed to go through into New Vesvai, travel into the neighboring nation and also even further move there if they want to. Union troops noticed a growing gathering happening at the horizon but they didn’t give their full attention to it now. Their priority was to guard the always tense border with New Vesvai. But they were also ready to push back against any attempts to head for the New Vesvai border by those gathering. For now it seemed like they were standing in place.

Police arrived to tell the gathered manifestation to end this demonstration and walk away or police would have to use force to end it. The participants of the demonstration started arguing with the officers that they had a right to demand that the border be reopened. The officers said that the border is closed because of the pandemic and that’s the law which is why they also preferred that the gathered locals keep their distance. The officers red all the other laws that were broken by this illegal gathering without a permit and how the demonstrators were risking their well-being by intruding into a militarized zone and distracting the troops. The locals disagreed and once again said that they had the right to do this. The officers against went through the laws that were being violated by the permitless gathering. The participants argued that they disagreed with these laws. The officers gave one last warning for the manifestation to disperse or police would have to use action. The demonstrators disagreed after which the officers and demonstrators got into a squabble with the police using force for the manifestation participants resisting arrest. Some were apprehended there and then while others ran but were caught. One of the officers asked for reinforcements in a form of more cars so that all these arrested participants could be transported to incarceration.

Meanwhile on the other side of the border scouts of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army noticed that a peaceful gathering is being dispersed by police on the other side of the border. Many troops are angered by this and many want to intervene and help those being arrested. But they know that as soon as they try to set foot on the Union’s side of the border it will be invasion. In fact New Vesvai one-sidedly built the wall not only to keep itself security originally from the Dominion of Vesvai and today from the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai but to keep troops on both sides of the border from being tempted to shoot at each other. Instead the troops thought that their superiors should be informed of this so that they could let New Vesvai’s government over in Perloveu know. But the military also considered the option of inviting journalists straight to the spot so that they could cover the detainments on the other side of the border. Some troops were filming the detainments on their phones to turn in the video material straight to the press without going through it with the government first.

October 6

When the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army saw authorities arresting people on the other side of the border the troops informed the press first before letting the government know. The public was already informed but it took until the following day to formulate a diplomatic response.

October 7

The Foreign Ministry condemned the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai publicly for arresting peaceful pro-independence demonstrators that rightfully gathered along the shared border between the two neighboring nations. The demands were made to let the detained people go and not to make any more detainments. Later Prime Minister Hale Aniho was informed that Sunrisia condemned the Union and called for the release of imprisoned people, refraining from future arrests and to start a dialogue with the opposition. The Sunrisians could at least still apply sanctions as they’re threatening to do and that was good news. New Vesvai no longer had any action to take since it didn’t have relations with the Union. The last action it could take was recognize the rebel government as the rightful one and that had already been done. PM Aniho welcomed this news and planned to give a personal statement and reaction to the occurrence. She also thought that time was approaching to personally meet with Round Table–Free Vesvai to display support and further show that New Vesvai recognizes Round Table–Free Vesvai as the rightful government-in-exile and would only talk to them and not to anyone else on the other side of the border. The Prime Minister called for a meeting with the Intelligence Directorate to get some advice.

Border between New Vesvai and the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 8

Internal Troops who were hunting for separatist terrorist guerillas in the last anti-terrorist military campaign were sent to the border. The Internal Troops had arrived to meet with the troops of the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. This was to be a meet-up, a show of support and a show of strength along with unity before ill-meaning neighbors like New Vesvai. It looked like a good time for a little drill but that was not on the to-do list just yet.

The commanders of Internal Troops greeted those serving as commanders of the local forces. The military people on both sides said that they will support each other to make sure that the government gives them the necessary mandate and resource to fight against all threats. Internal Troops had useful advice to share with the regular army on how to deal with guerillas in case they showed up in border areas. Internal Troop commanders hinted that it might be possible that they would very soon again have to fight a guerilla insurgency. That’s why they showed moral support to their colleagues in the regular army. They divided up roles pretty clear in case a new fight comes. Internal Troops would handle enemies inside while the regular army would be on the lookout for invaders from across the border. A promise was given by Internal Troops that they would have the regular army’s backs so that they wouldn’t be distracted from guarding the border like they just were by recently arrested criminals.

Internal Troops that arrived were stationed on the island but they brought news to the regular army from Prime Minister of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal. He committed to supporting them against foreign critics and lobby the military’s needs within the Union government.

Border between New Vesvai and the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 9

The servicemen and servicewomen of Internal Troops and the regular army were shoulder to shoulder. Before they were just standing together and sharing experience but now time has come for an impromptu military drill. Time was to show unity and strength not just by standing together at the tense border with a complicated neighbor. Time has come to show it with action. The troops immediately set up a training field and almost turned some of the military’s border checkpoints into obstacle courses seen at boot camps or at some military bases. Both types of forces trained for land battle not so much focusing on aerial threat. But at the same time the chance of enemy planes attacking was always possible because of past airspace violations by the neighbors. For that reason the army had brought in anti-aircraft weapons that would be used to shoot down flying objects that would imitate enemy planes in the drill. For Internal Troop part of the program some of the troops from the regular army would act as guerillas and Internal Troops would have to find them. Although impromptu this was not just a demonstrative drill that was quickly put together and roughly performed. Both types of forces were preparing for defense against an invasion and for war on insurgency.

The troops of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army were paying attention to the impromptu drill by Internal Troops and the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai on the other side of the border. The border had a wall covering it but VRA still had observing points from which to look at their neighbors. VRA wasn’t expecting any excesses but any drill is a potential cover-up for military action or an invasion. Not only did they learn it as one of the newer rules in military strategy but also from personal experience. There have been a lot of clashes that happened at this very border and they usually broke out during drills by one or other side. Sometimes competing drills by both sides happening at the same time. Commanders on the spot said that VRA should consider a drill in response although avoiding one would also demonstrate a more peaceful attitude of New Vesvai against the other side’s belligerency.

Perloveu, New Vesvai, October 10

Today was the day of the first official visit in person by Sunrisian officials in a while. The global pandemic hasn’t ended but this visit was important and needed. So both parties including the guests and hosting the nation of New Vesvai made sure to uphold safety anti-virus standards while getting important affairs at hand. Prime Minister Hale Aniho couldn’t join the foreign guests today. She was meeting with Round Table–Free Vesvai in the rebel government’s Perloveu headquarters in the nation’s capital. This was a historic moment in demonstrating further recognition and support for the rebel government over the Union rule and also the beginning of political dialogue with the rebel government as the legit authority of neighboring Vesvaian land. It wasn’t all just symbolism but also practice. The Sunrisian visit coupled with the Prime Minister’s meeting with Round Table–Free Vesvai made Perloveu an epicenter of important political affairs today.

While PM Hale Aniho is preoccupied with the rebels today the hosting of the Sunrisians is being handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army. Since two of the visiting officials are the Defense Minister and Foreign Minister of Sunrisia while the third is a national security advisor to the Sunrisian Minister it mean that New Vesvai’s Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry were hosting these officials as counterparts. They would be taken to visit the government’s headquarters, the Parliament and also the Sunrisian military command headquarters for the region that’s either called Dogmana or even North Corentia. But the key moment was to have the Sunrisians visit the training camp for the Vesvaian rebel forces in northern New Vesvai not too far away from the Union’s border. The Sunrisians were already supporting the rebels with supplies and training, but New Vesvai’s government hoped that the support would be boosted and become more open publicly. Also the Foreign Ministry hoped that maybe the Sunrisians would visit Round Table–Free Vesvai to finally become convinced that this is the legit leadership of northern Vesvaians and be recognized as such over the Union.

Birth of the Vesvaian Territorial Liberation Force (VTLF)

Postby New Vesvai » Sun Oct 11, 2020 1:47 am

Rebel training camp, New Vesvai, October 11

Today the guerilla and rebel forces of Vesvaian defectors that have waged the first guerilla campaign in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai and have since been receiving training in the camps and facilities on New Vesvai’s land have celebrated their graduation into a military force. Out of a collection of decentralized militia and paramilitary fighters they have become the self-proclaimed armed forces of a nation which they want to see become independent and sovereign. The Vesvaian Territorial Liberation Force (VTLF) has been formed and declared itself to be the official military of independent Vesvai which they will fight for and protect after it becomes independent.

After the impromptu ceremony of celebrating the formation of VTLF the troops of VTLF started giving an oath individually to independent Vesvai and have sworn to follow the official government of independent Vesvai which was Round Table–Free Vesvai. On that same day VTLF invited new recruits from the Vesvaian defector, dissident and expat community to join VTLF and subsequently be prepared for a possible fight to reclaim Vesvaian land from the Union.

Residence of Prime Minister Jonathan Mollisal, Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 11

Mollisal was sitting behind his desk at the home office of his residence. He was looking through some papers. On his mind Mollisal had the ongoing drill of Internal Troops and the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. It was still continuing which Mollisal saw as a good thing especially since New Vesvai was trying to send messages with the activity of its own military on the border. Additionally the neighbors were trying to send messages and also threaten through their invitation of Sunrisians to visit and also to try convincing them to visit Round Table–Free Vesvai while also visit the guerilla training camp in New Vesvai. Obviously New Vesvai’s government was openly doing all of that by recognizing Round Table–Free Vesvai and now having their Prime Minister visit them over at their headquarters while continuing to give them supplies and training over at special camps designed for that. But now New Vesvai’s government was obviously trying to sway their Sunrisian partners in that same direction which was likely to happen. And that was a more dangerous outcome for the Union’s security. But Mollisal wasn’t informed of the worst news yet: the formation of the Vesvaian Territorial Liberation Force (VTLF) a military structure made up of Vesvaian guerilla rebel forces loyal to Round Table–Free Vesvai. Mollisal was about to find out those uneasy news as his phone with the information was going to ring in about half and hour.

Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 12

It was Monday and Prime Minister of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal was back to work. This time he was in his regular office and not his home office. Mollisal was angered and worried all day since yesterday he was informed about the formation of the Vesvaian Territorial Liberation Force (VTLF) by the Vesvaian defectors in New Vesvai with support from New Vesvai along with Sunrisia and loyal to Round Table–Free Vesvai. He didn’t get a good night sleep from that news so Mollisal has been on coffee and cigarettes for a whole day. The afternoon’s news about the Sunrisians sending in new military instructors into New Vesvai made Mollisal double and triple the amount of coffee he was consuming and cigarettes he was smoking. The Sunrisians said that they were only sending those troops to train New Vesvai’s forces but it was clearly just for the news because they were there to train VTLF. Mollisal was confident of that. After sitting at his desk in total silence for about five minutes Mollisal got his phone and dialed MP Robert Praesedit. He was looking for advice since Mollisal was confident that it was time to strictly get President of Oblaren and Vesvai Russel Kelpir more involved in what’s happening.

Union Parliament Building, Fortwel, Isles of Oblaren, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, October 12

MP Robert Praesedit was talking with other MPs from his VHU party in-between breaks. He has been receiving calls from Prime Minister of Oblaren and Vesvai Jonathan Mollisal all day and has shared some of the non-discrete details of what the head of the Union government and all of their fellow VHU party member was saying. Many of them sided with the Prime Minister’s sentiment and Praesedit said he felt the same.

Once Praesedit got a moment alone he was thinking to himself:

“If John could just get me to be picked as the Defense Minister or Chairman of the Security Council like he promised this entire time then I would handle this whole situation much quicker. I could talk to Kelpir instead of him. This is my field.”

Once time came Praesedit had to get back into the Union Parliament with other MPs. But he was expecting more calls from Mollisal before the day was over.

Rebel training camp, New Vesvai, Night from October 12 to October 13

Military instructors from Sunrisia arrived on October 12. To the press the governments and military officials of New Vesvai and Sunrisia claimed that they were only here to train the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army (VRA) which was the military of New Vesvai. But many theorized elsewhere that the instructors came to train the newly created Vesvaian Territorial Liberation Force (VTLF) a Vesvaian defector military force. Training of VRA was only an excuse. Well nobody was going to disclose but that was indeed the case. The instructors were invited and even an offer was made to send them to train VTLF even though this wouldn’t be the first time the Sunrisians would help train those same rebel guerilla forces. In the afternoon of October 12 the arriving instructors were greeted by the New Vesvai’s Ministry of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army and also visited at the training camp. But now during the night things at the camp were peaceful. The day’s training was over and all the politicians were back in Perloveu. Military night guards from VRA were watching over the camp while the foreign instructors went to their own base opened here in New Vesvai.

Perloveu, New Vesvai, Night from October 12 to October 13

After not having a weekend and having a busy Monday Prime Minister Hale Aniho was now resting at home. Tomorrow on October 13 she would be making another trip to the rebel training camp up north-east to visit VRA, VTLF and the instructors from Sunrisia. Aniho had intentions to visit the border soon. VRA high command suggested that this may not be the best of time for the Prime Minister to come to the border but it also wasn’t a completely impossible idea. Aniho was told earlier that once the Union’s drill ends the troops would like to see the head of government visit them for moral support and for her to be briefed on the situation. Officials of the Ministry of the Vesvaian Revolutionary Army were coming frequently as supposed to but the military would like to see the Prime Minister now.
