Hogwarts RP Year 1: The Alchemist's Goblet (IC, OPEN)

Postby United Hemand Insia » Mon Sep 28, 2020 11:33 am

The Cambus family was a family of three people. The father, Thomas, the mother, Susanna, or Susan, and the son, Gideon. They were the most normal people you can imagine. If you showed one small hint of abnormality, you were considered a devil worshipper to their standards. Thomas Cambus had just woken up from the strangest dream ever. He imagined somebody with a black cloak hiding his face, pointing a thin stick at a dark brown-haired boy, who was staring at the figure, curiosity burning in his eyes. As soon as the boy saw the face under the cloak, he started balling his eyes out. The cloaked person shouted gibberish and Thomas woke up, sweating. He turned to his side to see his wife fast asleep, back to him. He tried to shake it off and think that he imagined the dream, but it stayed at the front of his mind, like a poltergeist in a corridor. Thomas looked over at his clock, which read 5:35 AM. His alarm would go off in ten minutes. After a lot of contemplating, Thomas got up, got dressed, and went downstairs to make his usual and boring toasted bagel with peanut butter. He heard his alarm go off upstairs and Susan walking around. A few minutes later, she came down carrying Gideon, fully dressed for her job as a stay-home mom.
“Are you heading into work?” She asked her husband with a tired tone.
“Yep, expecting a big order of 4-by-4’s today, so I have to be in early.” He replied, pecking her on the cheek and tickling his son, making him giggle.
Thomas opened and closed the front door quietly so he would not upset Gideon. He got in his car and drove out of their driveway. Driving down the street, something caught his eye. A dog sitting on a rock, reading a sign. Dogs cannot read signs he thought to himself just a stray that has been abused and now is out of its mind. The dog turned its head around and stared at Thomas through his mirror. He continued driving to work, trying not to think of the dog or dream he had had earlier that morning.
Thomas’s work was not even closed to its usual normal. People in robes kept walking down the street, singing obnoxiously. This weird and annoying to him. He was so close to cussing out the passersby because he could not concentrate on his work.
At lunch time, Thomas left his office to go to the bakery across the street. On his way he saw groups of robe-covered people muttering excitedly about this Wilhelm boy.
“He’s saved us! Saved us from You-Know-Who!” said one tall bloke wearing light purple robes.
“That Kammer boy is really going to save us from evil.” muttered a shorter and stubby man that was wearing forget-me-not blue robes.
When Thomas heard the name “Kammer”, he ran across the street, rushed into his office building, climbed the three flight of stairs to his office, put his Do Not Disturb sign on the front of his office door, and slammed it shut. Kammer was the last name of his wife’s sister. Susan’s sister was apart of their kind. But why would they be out at this time of day? What had happened to that atomic family of theirs? Thomas reached for his phone and started dialing their landline’s number but stopped abruptly. He remembered how much Susanna hated talking about her sister. She was deeply ashamed of her and how their parents reacted when she got into that clown circus of a school.
While Thomas was thinking about this, an owl with a letter tied to its leg landed on his office’s windowsill. They stared at each other for a moment and Thomas realized what was happening.
“Shoo, you crazy bird, shoo!” He shouted at the owl, which made it fly off again.
The rest of the day was normal, and when Thomas got home that evening, he ate dinner without talking much to Susanna. He was trying to decide if he wanted to bother her perfect self with the filth of her sister. After dinner, Thomas said goodnight to Gideon and Susanna and went to bed early.
At 11:00 o’clock that night, the dog that stared at Thomas on his way to work had moved for the first time since turning its head to look at him had finally moved. It was stalking over towards the end of the road, where a shadowy figure stood in the middle of the road. Once the dog within 10 feet of the figure, it spoke.
“Hello, Professor Barton.” It said. “Lovely night, isn’t it?”
The dog had now transformed into an elderly woman and was now speaking as well.
“Indeed, it is, Professor Kimpower.” Professor Barton replied. “But these Muggles are very boring. I spent the whole day on that rock and almost nothing happened.”
“All day, geez. I’d expect you to at least stretch your legs a little.” Kimpower chuckled. Professor Barton frowned at him.
“So… the rumors… are – are they true?”
“I’m afraid so.”
Professor Barton started to sob after hearing this. Kimpower’s smile had faded and he looked at the road they were standing on.
“Then why are we here? What wizard will take him in?” She questioned.
“No wizard will take Wilhelm in. He will live over there,” He said, pointing at the house farthest from him, “His only relatives live in that house.”
“But they’re Muggles!” Professor Barton cried. “Wilhelm is the most famous wizard of this generation and he’s only a year old!”
“Yes, that is true, but he won’t remember what happened. He will live here until he is old enough for school.”
“So, who’s bringing him here?”
“Stedore will be transporting Wilhelm here for me?”
Professor Barton rolled her eyes. Stedore was a big man, and at sometimes clumsy. Professor Barton knew that Kimpower was very fond of Stedore
There was a muffled but loud rumbling coming from the south. Kimpower and Barton both turned in the direction of the sound to find a huge motorcycle soaring through the air. As big as it was, the motorcycle landed softly and turned off as soon as it touched down. Stedore got off the motorcycle and revealed that he was holding a picnic basket. Inside was a small boy that was fast asleep.
“Any trouble getting here, Stedore?” Kimpower asked.
“Nope. ‘e fell asleep as we were flyin’ over Crawley.” Stedore replied.
“Good. Good, good. Right then. I think it’s time to drop Wilhelm off at his new residence.”
The three walked to the end of the street, walked up the driveway, and put Wilhelm down on the porch. Kimpower tucked a letter inside Wilhelm’s showing arm and muttered “Good luck, then.”
All three turned around, walked down the driveway, and turned to each other. Stedore was the first to speak.
“Well, I’ll be off then. Gotta ge’ this baby back to its rightful owner.”
And without another word, Stedore turned the key in the ignition and flew into the dark sky.
“I suppose I’ll see you at school, then, professor?” Professor Barton asked.
“Yes, I think you will.” Kimpower replied, smiling.
At that time, they both vanished from thin air.

Wilhelm woke up. Today, he was going to Hogwarts.

A new beginning, a new life

Postby Aragren » Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:02 pm

Wilhelm Kammer woke up that morning feeling as miserable as ever. He got up to, rubbed his eyes, and tried to reach for the little cord to pull on an turn on the lights in his cupboard. Only that when he reached, he grasped thin air. He finally opened his eyes and was blinded for a few moments by the bright light that shone through the window.
"Window?", he thought. "That can`t be right, this is a cupboard. There is no window." And yet, there it was, with the first yellow rays of the morning sun shining into the relatively large room he was sleeping in.
"A room?! That can`t be right. I must`ve hit my head on the cupboard ceiling, or something." Still, there was no questioning it. He was lying on a mattress in the middle of an average-looking bedroom with a very large trunk at the end of the bed and a little black and white cat lying on the windowsill, blinking drowsily at him.
Then he remembered.
Wilhelm jumped out of his bed in excitement as his heart began racing ever faster. He remembered it all now. The letters, the giant wizard, the alley full of the crazy and wonderful shops, his new cat Tab, and of course the wand. He felt for the pockets of his pyjamas. There it was. A slim, long, smooth piece of wood. And he remembered the ticket now too. It lay on the table where he had left it, with the golden letters "Hogwarts Express, Kings Cross, Platform 9 and 3 quarters, 11 o`clock" glowing at him. He looked at his watch. 9:30.

After an extremely fast toothbrushing (probably too fast), dressing, carrying down his trunk and pleading with his uncle to let Tab sit on Wilhelm`s lap in the car so she could come with them, Wilhelm finally found himself at the entrance of Kings Cross. He had never been here before, but didn`t think it would be too hard to find a certain platform in a train station. He started to go for the inside of the station, but not before he heard a surpressed laughter behind him. He turned around in time to see his uncle enter the car while sneering the last words "Good luck finding that platform", before shutting the door and zooming away.
Wilhelms stomach sank when he thought about it. "What the hell is even platform 9 and 3 quarters?? I`ve never heard of such a platform to exist anywhere!". But now he was here, and so now he had to manage somehow.

He was already beginning to give up hope after asking the third conductor, who, like the two before him, looked at him in a funny way and walked off, muttering something along the line of "Time wasters....." under his breath. Wilhelm looked at his watch. 10:40. He was beginning to panic. If he did not find this platform somehow within the next 20 minutes all his hopes and dreams would be crushed instantly. 10:45. Keeping calm was getting harder by the minute. 10:47. Maybe there was no such platform. 10:49. Maybe his uncle and cousin and aunt had organized all of this just to get the largest laughter of their lives out of it. 10:50. He might as well give u-"...and full of Muggles as usual...". He darted around. A woman with what seemed to be her children had walked past him. His hopes now re-ignited, he began following them. They didn`t seem to be going into any particular direction. In fact, they at some point just stood next to one of the walls between the two platforms nine and ten with no apparent desire to keep moving. A group of people moved between Wilhelm and the family while he was trying to get closer. When the crowd dissolved, he could swear that there were less family members than before. He was about to finally approach them when another crowd got in between and, before he knew, there was only the mother and what seemed to be her only daughter left besides the wall. Fearing they might vanish entirely too, Wilhelm finally managed to get close enough to talk. "Excuse me." The woman turned. "Oh, sorry, yes dear?" "Uhm do you know how I might...how..." He looked down at the ticket in his hand with the golden letters, and looked up helplessly again, fearing that he might get ridiculed. The woman`s eyes traveled to his ticket, opened a little in surprise, and looked back reassuringly at him. "Oh, you mean how to get to the platform? Not to worry dear, I remember my own first day. All you got to do is walk just straight through the wall here next to us. Better try to do it when nobody looks, though." Wilhelm looked puzzled at her. But, after one glance at his watch telling him that he had literally 3 minutes left, he took his chances and, when another crowd passed, he just headed for the wall while reaching out his hand, expecting to bang into the rock.
Only he didn`t. Instead, he now found himself on a busy platform full of wizards dressed in robes, carrying trunks, and owls flying over them. He looked to the side, where a large, red steam train stood, with the writing "Hogwarts Express" attached to it`s front part. Wilhelm was filled with joy. One of the conductors kindly enough took his trunk to the carriages for the luggage in the back, while Wilhelm, followed closely by Tab, entered the train and went to look for an empty compartment. When he did, he sat down nervously, as he heard a clock outside strike 11 o`clock, and the train start leaving the platform. He looked out the window to watch as the platform and then Kings Cross grew smaller, until they were out in the green fields of England. He sat back, closed his eyes, and let out a happy sigh.

As Wilhelm sat in the train, relaxed and happy, the door to the train compartment he was in slid open. In walked a tall boy, with jet black hair and piercing slate eyes, accompanied by hawk on his shoulder. He surveyed the compartment, seemingly failing to notice Wilhelm. The boy was slid the door closed, and sat in the seat across from Wilhelm. As he stared out the window, he spoke. "So...The famous Wilhelm Kammer...I expected you to be somewhere on this train."

Wilhelm turned to face the boy. There was a slight tone of arrogance in his voice, but not in the usual, menacing way. He replied, though a bit nervous, in a calm tone: "I did not expect to be so famous that people would actively go looking for me. What is your name, if I may ask, seeing as you seem to be already familiar with mine?"

The boy laughed, but not with true happiness. "Not that famous? You are...interesting." He sat up to face Wilhelm. "Forgive me for not introducing myself. My name is Artemis Ilan, but I doubt you've heard of me." Artemis' slate eyes drove a piercing gaze through Wilhelm. He seemed like the type who was difficult to make friends with, but once the bond was there, it became a strong bond that lasted forever, unless you broke the bond, in which case he would destroy your name. The boy was dressed in a stunningly white shirt with a black tie underneath, and crisp, black robes topped it. On the left side of his neck, he bore a tattoo in the shape of an elegant triquetra, perhaps the symbol of a noble house.

"Who are you bothering this time, Artemis?" Came a voice from the hallway. A tall boy came into the compartment, and at the sight of Wilhelm, froze on the spot.
"Blimey. It's... It's Wilhelm Kammer. It's Wilhelm Kammer! I'm Archibald... Archibald Sweet." Archibald said with a gaze of amazement. "My little sister is a big fan of yours. She blushes at every mention of your name. We should get into our school robes now. What House do you think you'll be in. I want to be in Ravenclaw but Gryffindor wouldn't be too bad."

Wilhelm looked at the boy who just entered. He seemed to be a more talkative type of person than the boy who had come in first. They obviously seemed to know each other.
"Uhm..." Wilhelm said, wondering what a Ravenclaw or Gryffindor was. "I don`t know. I guess I`ll let myself be surprised."

"You ought to be Gryffindor, especially what you did to You-Know-Who. Maybe I should want to join Gryffindor." After this Archibald looked out to window to indicate that he was in deep thought. After while, he came back to his senses and said, "Anyways, can I sit down?"

Their conversation was interrupted with a loud scream.

There was a sound of someone falling outside the train compartment, and suddenly the door to was slammed open, disrupting the boys inside.

The source of the sound was a young girl their age, who had an apologetic and also embarrassed expression on her face.

"I'm sorry" she said, her cheeks red as she tried to give an explanation. "My luggage, for some reason has been moving about the train, and I lost control of it."

She composed herself for a moment before looking at the boys sitting in the seats.

"I suppose it would be rude for me to just leave without introducing myself. My name is Miko Sato, pleased to make your acquaintance." Miko bowed slightly as she finished her introduction.

Archibald stuttered. She was a very attractive girl. "H- hi. I'm Archibald. This is Artemis, and this Wilhelm" He said, pointing at them both. "It's- it's very nice to meet you." He finished, blushing.

"If it's alright, then I'll request your help" she said, before motioning to the suitcase.

It was a rather old suitcase, but kept in very clean condition, and outside of being very heavy had do other characteristics.

"I'll help, I'll help" Archibald exclaimed, rushing over to help. He could feel himself blushing even more. He had finally met someone that he was interested in.

Seeing that Archibald seemed to be more than willing to help Miko, Wilhelm went to sit back down and let himself sink back into his thoughts, still wondering about what was going to happen the next few hours. He went to face the window, pondering this, while caressing Tab behind her ears.

The four got their school robes on, got their luggage, and headed towards Stedore, who was shouting "Firs' years, over here! Come on now!"

Miko, having moved to England just a few months prior, was a bit shocked by the odd accent of Stedore. Although she knew that received pronunciation was not the only way of speaking English, she was still a bit shocked by the various dialects.

"What, does he intimidate you?" Archibald chuckled and regretted what he said soon after. He remembered that she wasn't family, but instead a girl girl that he was trying to impress. He slapped his forehead in disappointment of himself.

"Quite a, er, formidable fellow, that man is, I’d say," said a voice from a previously unnoticed boy.

He had a thin face that betrayed no obvious emotion, framed by dark brown hair that was swept back and to the right. The only sign of his excitement at arriving at Hogwarts were his grey eyes, eagerly taking in all his surroundings.

"I suppose one could be frightened by him if you relied on appearances alone."
