Seems like this thread might be more at home in General rather than NationStates, as this is an in-character forum.

Nonetheless, it's an interesting question to pose, and one for which my answer has changed quite noticeably in the past year. Though it pains me to admit, the United States is the most overrated country on earth right now. Perhaps my answer is affected by my own experience as a native-born American (having been exposed to American exceptionalism my entire life), but I've also lived extensively abroad and can tell you that our national leadership is admired just about nowhere. For there to be such a dissonance between America's opinion of itself and our pathetic international reputation, is both absurd and deeply embarrassing.

I love the United States, and truly believe it can be built into a more equitable force for good in the world, but I'm not sure what we stand for any longer. All that seems clear is that we're for America and against anybody who isn't America, which seems a pretty poorly-equipped ideology for the supposed leader of the free world. You simply can't narrate yourself as the world's beacon of hope and opportunity while simultaneously denying those virtues to your own citizenry. Everything America legislates — everything we 'achieve' — screams that we are unprepared and unwilling to assume real leadership not just in the world, but in our own borders as well. We fix the gaping injustices in our society with half-measures and empty platitudes because there's no real appetite for reform and no real desire to lead by example rather than by force. The reasons for this are complex and deeply-rooted, but somehow seem to only affect America. Every other country of our wealth and stature seems to be well past this kind of self-denial and willful ignorance. For a country which is despised abroad and performs awfully on every quality of life indicator, the US has an awfully rosy opinion of its own destiny to lead. It's about time we took serious responsibility for our actions — beginning with the fundamental flaws we've neglected for too long.

For me Japan and S Korea, especially on the internet, many (misinformed) Westerners believe those countries are full of virile and macho men like the samurais they see in animes such as Goku or Naruto, virginal and conservative women like the one they see in Doraemon, that traditional marriage and values are kept there and that they reject feminism, homosexualism and mass immigration. But they have to discover the raw reality of those E Asian countries, which is completely different:

[*] They're not traditional nor conservative at all, in fact those countries are known for their insane model of capitalism and consumerism, the explicit sexual liberalism and hedonism repeated in their cartoons (anime and especially hentai), the exhibitionism and twerking culture of their girls shown in K-pop and cosplays (not to mention their extreme facelift and ultra-pale skin addiction), the immaturity, depression, suicide, effemination, weakness and sedentarism culture of their boys who literally die in front of a screen playing fantasy MMORPGs (hikikomoris and herbivore men) and their extremely high atheism rates (except for the Czech R all the majority atheist contries are Asian, specifically China, Japan and both Koreas) as well as the high levels of social and institutional persecution of religion prevalent there, and don't forget they've got the highest suicide and depression rates in the world.

[*] How ironic is talking about that they dislike mass immigration when they're all immigrants themselves (read about the Ainu) and also they're increasingly accepting of brown immigration and disapproval towards Islamism is virtually unexistent.

As far as I can know, other Asian countries like China (including Taiwan and HK), Thailand or Singapore are very probably affected by similar problems but these are not as overrated as Japan and S Korea. So, I would like you to explain your observations too.

With all the posturing as this left wing superstar on the global stage, people seem to think it's this super liberal utopia when it's really just... not. It's the United States with healthcare, gun control, and fronted vowels. Even many of the stereotypes of Canada are really stereotypes of Ontario, and maybe Montréal. And Trudeau is following in his father's footsteps by doing the exact same deficit spending that lead to its economic woes in the seventies, and which was only stopped in the 1990s by not doing that.
Canadians are super nationalistic, and the usual target of this is the States. Literally anyone or anything associated with them is going to at least be viewed with suspicion, because Canada's entire identity as a country is "not being the United States", the backwards land of french fries and heart attacks. So Canadians go out of their way to paint a false picture of Canada, as long as that picture doesn't resemble its neighbor to the south then it's all good.
And then there's Québec. Québec is... interesting.

A lot of people are weebs. I'm not going in depth because I don't have some grand point to make here, I'm just saying Japan has a cultural hold without people even realizing what that culture is.

Japan has also many immigrants from third world countries like Vietnam, India, Nepal, Indonesia, and they'll soon surrender like the West, remember they're the most aged country in the world, their median age is 48, for comparison in France is just 40.

Agree, France as a country has more future than Japan or S Korea, French still marry and have children (they've got one of the highest fertility rates in Europe at almost 2 children per woman), unlike E Asia where dying virgin is the norm for all and fertility drops to below 1.

I like France's commitment to nuclear power. It'll be the least hit by the oncoming oil disaster I feel. I also respect it for aiding us in achieving independence, though its own revolution could have gone more smoothly.

Hey man, I'm all for having your own tastes and all, but I think we can agree this is a bit far. I'm not sure the typecasting of an entire race of people as 'goblins' can or should be construed as any kind of objective statement.
