World Volleyball eXpo (WVE X) Everything Thread

Postby Taeshan » Mon Sep 21, 2020 4:07 pm

Alright everyone, this is your everything thread for the World Volleyball Expo X in Taeshan. As of today we have 30 signups. Below is the current state of the pots for the Expo. The top pot is open to the top 8 from last tournament, pot 2 to playoff qualifiers, Pot 3 is teams that did not advance out of the Group Stage last tournament and pot 4 is new teams. This tournament is not ranked, these pots were just used as a way to put teams on group based on realistic past performance. The Draw will be Wednesday Evening September 23rd, sometime after 6: 30 Eastern Us. Provided we can get 2 more teams there will be 32 teams in this tournament. Since not all teams from each eligible group will be entered from last tournament the top performing teams from lower pots (pots after Pot 1 are listed in performance order) can move up into the higher pots, with any movement among unranked teams moving to pot 3 decided by blind draw at the draw on wednesday. My intention would be to run the tournament starting Sunday Night, depending on schedule.

Taeshan enters its fifth World Volleyball Expo. It has never advanced out of the Group Stage, and honestly has a less than stellar record. That said Taeshan is a historic power in Volleyball at the olympics. Taeshan prides itself on it's volleyball teams on the beach and in the gym, and it is one of the top 3 sports played in the nation with Soccer, and Football. The indoor teams have combined for 8 medals in Volleyball. The men will represent the side in Cassadaigua (because someone needs to counteract the home side). Winning bronze twice, and a Gold in Republica, Free Republics, their most recent medal. For their part the women have won two bronzes, three silvers and a gold winning Silver in Orean and Istria at the last olympics. On the beach the teams have won six medals. With a men's sweep of Gold and Silver in Novonaya, Kelssek. Jonah Wilbur takes over the outside starter position from Helmut Cardinal with Libero Sandy Cross retiring and being replaced by Xavier Shelton, finally Xavier Shelton has retired and been replaced by Oliver Kasabian. New national teamers have been named in Jacob Francois, Emmanuel Belvedere, and Kim Yeong-hye

Starting 7
4 Asher Immelman - Outside, 6 ft 1, 23 Years Old, Laketown VC
8 Oliver Kasabian - Opposite, 6 ft 6, 22 Years Old, X Island Force
10 Tyler Jean-Pierre - Middle, 6 ft 8, 26 Years Old, Ojian Orangemen
13 Jonah Wilbur - Outside, 6 ft 4, 23 Years Old, Yaton Spike
14 Karl Hedges - Setter, 6 ft 2, 34 Years Old, Air Force Club
15 Cheyenne Wantanabe - Middle Hitter, 6 ft 8, 34 Years Old, New Capetown Corvettes
28 Xavier Shelton - Libero, 6 ft, 22 Years Old, Knightspurs

Bench
1 Emmanuel Belvedere, 5 ft 8, 19 Years Old, Defensive Specialist, Shadow
2 Shia Carleton - Defensive Specialist, 5 ft 11, 28 Years Old, Nemesis
7 Micah Van Drew - Middle, 6 ft 9, 24 Years Old, New Capetown Corvettes
17 Kim Yeong-hye - Outside, 6 ft 4, 20 Years Old, Vesuvius
20 Richard Fulton - Middle, 6 ft 9, 21 Years Old, Atlantea Surge
25 Quinton Doogood - Setter, 6 ft 2, 22 Years Old, Vesuvius
37 Jacob Francois - Opposite, 6 ft 5, 21 Years Old, Mt Ceabring Thunder

Often the team will switch to a more height lineup bringing in all the middles off the bench, and the backup setter. The libero takes out the middles, and serves for Wantanbe. Shia Carleton will play back row for Helmut Cardinal. The team has an aging group thanks to it being a while since their last appearance. Oliver Kasabian's dad was an early Volleyball for Taeshan in the World expo. Quinton Doogood will set sometimes instead of Karl Hedges as he is the only older player that does not get a chance to rest for long periods of time. Xavier Wood and Karl Hedges are the captains.

VOLLEYBALL WORLD EXPO 10
TEAM CASSADAIGUA

Cassadaigua has appeared in the Volleyball World Expo often throughout its history, and were the champions of the sixth edition, which came one tournament after hosting the fifth VWE. Team Cassadaigua was also the runner up in VWE 4. Playing at home in the competition's return, they were eliminated in the round of 16 by Taeshan. Therefore, the Fillies would love the chance to return the favor. Some changes have occurred to the roster, but the core will return.

Coach: Shannon O’Rourke (55)
– She was young when she was the head coach of our championship winning VWE 6 team, so even with adding for IC years between each tournament, it’s realistic for her to be back even though it has OOCly been seven years since that tournament.

Starters:
S: #10- Kristen Kruse (24)
OH: #11- Victoria Nagy (30)
OH: #15- Lauren Delcourt (27)
MH: #7- Hannah Driscoll (27)
MH: #8- Nikki Bryan (29)
L: #16- Lindsey Klevankin (25)

Bench:
S: #13- Julia Diravallo (26)
OH: #18- Gabrielle Nugent (23)
OH/MH: #21- Becky Phelan (22)
MH: #5- Katelynn Wood (20)
L: #9- Jenna Freese (23)
Utility: #00- Margaret Randle (32)

For a nation where nudity is mandatory, clothes are always a nice surprise. Kriegiersien comes as always in their black Olympic rags.. jerseys.

While the men and women failed together at the last Volleybal Expo, the women then at least made it into the quarter finals at the Olympics, losing against Quebec.
So the mixed team got another chance to prove themselves in the most prestigious volleyball tournament outside the Olympics. The men again with a new coach.

The Lisanderian Volleyball Federation doesn't send mixed teams to international competitions since volleyball (as every ball sport except horse polo) is gender-separated in Lisander. Yet, since a larger number of nations send female and mixed teams to Volleyball World Expo, the following policy was defined:

Against female teams, Lisander will send its female team.

Against male teams, Lisander will send its male team.

Against mixed-gender teams , Lisander will send its male team, but players will not hit female players (even if it means losing a match).

Against nations who sent full male and female teams, Lisander will consult the other delegation to ask about the possibility of a non-mixed-gender match. If it's not accepted, the policy when played against co-ed teams will be enforced.

These are the twenty-eight athletes that were selected between the rosters of V-League Lisander to represent the nation in this Volleyball World Expo:

Roster:
2 Tássio Anger
4 Breno Segard
6 Henrique Canterville
8 Vitor Gante
10 Mariano Bardi
12 Matias Juillerat
14 Antonio Lorens
16 Maxi LeFort
18 Samuel Bardi
20 Stefan Duran
22 Adrian Mader
24 Victor Thorn
26 Giancarlo Bernauer
28 Elídio Alte

Coach Henrique Sanna
1 Armina de Mitri
3 Léa Ison
5 Guilhermina Hartins
7 Larissa Holstein
9 Anelice Henriques
11 Lígia Sauer
13 Noemi Sclia
15 Gabriela Valliant
17 Elissa Morian
19 Mégara Gasset
21 Lorena Rosell
23 Natássia Algrave
25 Morgana Lyons
27 Serena Deville

Coach Luisa Dass

The underlined number indicates male and female captains, that act as joint team co-captains.

Uniforms:
Uniforms were made by Lisanderian brand Neo. For this tournament, they're testing a new measurement technology. So each player was measured individually, so each player has it fitting to its own body. The image below is only a rendition of the design:

Volleyball was never a popular sport in Dryicor, most of the attention going to hockey and handball, however recently Dryicorans have gone wild for the sport as the new craze.

As such, the Dryicoran Government have quickly set up the Dryicoran Volleyball Association to manage handball in Dryicor. Dryicor's Channel 5 have agreed to broadcast the tournament as part of their recent interest in sports broadcasting, and Dryicorans have gone crazy for Dryicor's first entry into the tournament.

Dryicor's roster for the WVE 10
1. Aatami Raakellinen - MB/MH
2. Avoortungiaq Ignatiussen (shortened to Avoor) - OH/OP

Nation Name: The Galatic Empire of Kohnhead
Shortened Name: Kohnhead
Nickname: The Brains
Record: 2-2
Colors: Dark Blue with Red Stripes (H) Light Red with Yellow and Blue alternating stripes (A)

Info: After a very surprising 2-1 run in Group H which saw us get to the round of 16, where we lost to Torisakia, volleyball became one of the more popular sports in Kohnhead. 2 years later it has overtaken basketball to become one of Kohnhead's big 4 sports in football, gridiron, tennis, and volleyball although baskbetball is looking to make it a big 5.

Because of how well they did last tournament we are the last pot 1 team of the tournament which means we will not have to face the heavyweights in the group stage. The formation has been made more proffessional, but the team is basically the same except 25 year old Junior Stephens is in for the now retired Bruce an Habishua. Expectations have been raised this time around, can we answer them?

BP Volleyball back at Worlds
by Mark Jamerson, Staff Reporter

The Baker Park National Volleyball team return for the second time to the World Volleyball Expo, hosted in Taeshan for the 10th edition, and their successful debut in Cassadaigua has meant a change in expectations and stature this time around.

The BPNT were allocated a spot in Group D as the top seed, to face off against Qasden, Omerica and Pemecutin in Laketown, located on the second most northerly island in the Rushmori archipelago that lies directly north of Savojarna.

Head Coach Michelle Dawson-Reid is looking for more consistency out of her squad, who disappointed with their performance at the Istria Olympics.
"I felt as though we kept repeating the same basic errors in the matches we dropped there. We lost the first set in four of the five group games and sometimes it just made little sense why we committed so many unforced errors in those opening games. Maybe that's my fault, because if I was on the outside looking in, that might be the first thing I'd guess."

Dawson-Reid has re-doubled her efforts at getting the team to stress fundamentals in the training camp prior to departing for Taeshan. "Sometimes you need to take a couple of steps back and work on things that should be habit for players at this point in their careers. It narrows their focus on the mechanics and gets them back into relying on instinct and reacting rather than trying to think ahead. We'll see how that plays out when we get down to digging and hitting for real."

The veteran Endborough College coach made clear that she would look to the players on the bench earlier in matches where the starters appeared to struggle. "I think our first six (players) are as good as nearly everyone in this tournament, but we'll be much quicker to bring them off in the opening set than we were in Istria if they struggle."

BP will open group play against Omerica before facing Pemecutin on matchday 2, with fellow AO side Qasden providing the final day opposition.

Team Valladares Roster
Volleyball World Expo 10 - Team Info
Presented by the Valladar Volleyball Federation

About Valladar Volleyball:

After association football and basketball, volleyball is arguably Valladares' third most popular sport by number of players and registered clubs, although lagging behind those two sports by a lot. In spite of this, Valladar volleyball is following on the footsteps of basketball towards its own consolidation, such as the creation of a national league (played by men's teams) and the promotion and dissemination of the sport among young people, especially in universities and colleges. This approach has already paid off with the sport being greatly embraced by women at university level, which has allowed the creation of a women's university league including 12 teams from all over the nation and won by the Royal University of Metropolis in its first edition. Having witnessed the early success of this league, as well as the sport's growing popularity among women, and the third place in the most recent Volleyball World Expo edition held in Cassadaigua, the Valladar Volleyball Federation (Federación Valladar de Voleibol or FVV in Spanish), has decided to send its team of bronze medalists integrated by the best players of the Valladar University League in the hopes that it will once again make a decent showing and will help the sport's popularity skyrocket, thus cutting the gap still existing with the "Big Two" sports of the nation.

Pandemic exception: I do not recognise the existence of any international pandemics. This does not mean that I will not recognise the existence of disease outbreaks in other countries (largely in the interest of not being a hypocrite), but these will be construed as a series of unrelated outbreaks and will not under any circumstances extend to or from the United Republics of Omerica. DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
WOMEN'S NATIONAL VOLLEYBALL TEAM

This will be the fourth time that Abanhfleft will participate in an international volleyball tournament. While volleyball is very popular in the high school and college levels, there is not as much interest in professional volleyball, and the biggest professional volleyball league in the country is composed of only ten teams that play with semi-professional players in front of stadiums that are only a quarter full. But the Volleyball Federation of Abanhfleft hopes that with the inclusion of the national team to the Volleyball World Expo, interest in the sport within the nation will increase.

HUElavia Return to the WVE looking to Learn and Build the Team!

HUElavia come to WVE IX, coming off a disappointing Group Stage elimination after a promising start. This time around, the same squad has returned, with some of the players now married, but all of the them are the best HUElavia has to offer, as the look to grow as players and help the sport grow back home. The team was in Pot 2, being put in Group C with Quebec, The Grearish Union, and Tikariot. All these matches will be played at Corvette Arena (20,000), in New Capetown, Cap Island.

A few thousands of fans will come to support the team, as the women are confident that they can advance past the Group Stage this time around, and they look forward to making some noise for the competition. For the team, the HUElavian Volleyball Confederation, which unites all the teams from the states all around the country into this national team, expects the team to advance to the Round-of-16. Regardless, the fans hope this can be a good tournament for Las Amarillas/As Amarelas, as they come to sing and cheer on the team. The team also looks to practice and prepare, being hungry for more victories moving forward.

Siovanija & Teusland National Volleyball Team, Volleyball World Expo 10

Facts
Nation Name: United Republics of Siovanija and Teusland
Short Names: Siovanija & Teusland, the United Republics
Demonyms: Siovanijan, Teus
Association: Siovanija & Teusland Volleyball Federation
Colours: Blue and gold
Anthem: ‘High Mountain Skies’
Capital City: Borograd
Other Major Cities: St. Jakob, Stelburg, Vlaikograd, Chernovets, Felsenkirchen
Highest Domestic League: V-Liga (upcoming)
Nicknames: The Goldhorns

Overview

In the United Republics of Siovanija & Teusland, it is fair to say that the sporting landscape is dominated by hockey and football, with cricket also popular within Teusland. Basketball enjoys some popularity within Siovanija, and there is talk of effort to build the popularity of gridiron football in the country in the near future. Volleyball, however, is a sport very much on the outside of the national sporting landscape. Things have changed since the last time the team appeared at the Volleyball World Expo, however. A quarterfinal run in that tournament, combined with a fourth-place finish at the Summer Olympics, has led to funding from the National Ministry of Sport to create a new league to support the continued excellence of Siovanijan and Teus volleyball players. The V-Liga will begin play next season, and much of the effort leading to its creation was spearheaded by players on this team. With the strong performance of recent times, and the continued development of chemistry within this group, there is a hope that this tournament will be another successful one for the national team.

Staff

Coach: Lukas Keller, TU Stelburg

Keller has been the coach of TU Stelburg’s volleyball program for a long time, and has created a veritable dynasty with the team, who have won 6 of the last 8 national championships. The squad is made up of mainly players from that team mixed with some of the best from other universities.

If you don’t feel like watching soccer,
By Kaitlyn Scoville, Concord Heights Times

The international sporting scene right now is firmly controlled by soccer, where the biggest tournament in the World, the World Cup is about to begin. For those who did not make the World Cup, the fight for 33rd place is also going to begin pretty soon in the Cup of Harmony. Eventually, we can see things like the World Bowl or the International Basketball Championships taking up our time, or even lacrosse, but those aren’t underway yet. What can you do then? Watch old reruns of great events?

Fear not! World Volleyball Expo 10 is about to begin, as well. Are you excited? When it goes up against the World Cup, it is not going to win any ratings battles but this is a competition that we have done well in, in the past. Last time out, we hosted the thing, and the turnout was pretty good at various venues throughout the Matriarchy. We were impressed by the press attention that it got, feeling that it exceeded expectations, so it would be great to see if the competition can build on that momentum. It will be hosted by Taeshan this year, a nation that may have its fan base hoping we make Trolleborg look silly on matchday 1 of the Proper considering how that qualifying group went. We’ll leave it at that.

Much of the team is back, and 24-year bombshell Kristen Kruse feels that this team will fare better away from home, “I think some of us were a little unprepared for the quality of competition we faced last time. We knew it was of international quality, but for many of us it was about having fun maybe a little more than it should have been. We are more focused on things now with it being far from home.” Poafmersia is the first opponent, and we are still waiting to see a press release from them as to who makes up their team. Perhaps that will come. We will see.

Dryicor triumph over Reçueçn in hard-fought dogfight
Dryicor have, rather surprisingly, won their first match in the World Volleyball eXpo competition with a 3-2 tournament win over Reçueçn in their first ever match in the tournament.

The match, which Dryicor just about won at the end due to a good hit by outside hitter Sujutuna Näpääruttää that was not caught by the opposition, pooled Channel 5 its highest ever viewing figures with a remarkable 41%, which is thought of as having detrimentally affected DTV's primetime broadcast of a key World Cup match (scoring a surprisingly low 28%, its lowest primetime rating since 2002).

Speaking to Channel 5 after the match Dryicoran manager Petra Magnusson said "I am immensely proud of the team today. They were impressive, played well and deserved the win. It's just a shame it took so long to achieve."

Dryicor play Nagore at the Bayern Courts on Wednesday.

Celebrations are preparing for the 400th anniversary of Dryicor's existence on 1 November.
Prime Minister Erno Pulkkinen's approval ratings are at an all-time high of 86%.
The BOD will broadcast national celebrations, whilst DTV has decided to run a massive street party with special editions of its hit shows to celebrate the anniversary.
