These spectacle politics represent a dying empire.

Trump: Sleepy Joe is incompetent, needs drugs to improve his debate performance, and is suffering from dementia.

Also Trump: Joe Biden has been a Washington politician for 47 years, he spent decades in the Senate where all they do is debate, he was vice president twice, and debated on the national stage in each of those races, and did very well. In the Democrat primaries, he debated a whole crowd of opponents, 11 times, and he won. He bested two dozen Democrat challengers. He knows his way around the debate stage, he knows how to do it. He’s actually quite good. He is a professional and he can debate. Biden is going to do great.

Indeed, especially when Our Democracy is in Peril. Another four years of Trump, or Republican control will be devastating though while some of the damage can be reversed, some of it can't or will take years.

The damage part is especially true regarding COVID-19, where Trump said the coronavirus pandemic “affects virtually nobody” to stating the misleading claim that the virus only sickens the old and the ill.

President Trump falsely told supporters in Ohio on Monday night that the coronavirus pandemic “affects virtually nobody,” even as the country approaches the grim milestone of 200,000 recorded deaths linked to the virus and is bracing for a potentially devastating surge of cases this fall and winter.

Mr. Trump, who has veered back and forth between claiming that he takes the crisis seriously and dismissing it as a transient problem that will disappear on its own, made his remarks during a rambling late-night rally at an airport hangar in Dayton.

His comments, made in passing, were embedded in a long digression that began with a discussion of tax cuts and ended with his familiar exhortation for local officials to reopen their schools.

The remarks were part of a chain of assertions Mr. Trump made about the virus, centered around the misleading claim, made by the president and other Republicans, that the virus only sickens the old and the ill.

“It affects elderly people, elderly people with heart problems, if they have other problems, that’s what it really affects, in some states thousands of people — nobody young — below the age of 18, like nobody — they have a strong immune system — who knows?” Mr. Trump said.

“It affects virtually nobody,” he added. “It’s an amazing thing — by the way, open your schools!”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has rejected that argument. He told CNN on Tuesday that 25 to 30 percent or more of the population has an underlying condition, like obesity, that contributes to their risk of severe illness.

“It can be serious in young people,” he said.

Mr. Trump’s mishandling of the virus, and his administration’s attempts to downplay or distort information about its severity, has emerged as a major vulnerability heading into the election, especially among educated suburban voters.

Mr. Trump continues to talk about the virus in dismissive terms, against the advice of advisers, who have urged him to talk less about the pandemic and more about the economy, law enforcement and other issues.

The true number of Americans killed by the virus — including thousands of people under 65 and some victims who seemed to be in good health before the illness struck — exceeds official death counts and is likely much higher than 200,000 already, according to a recent analysis of deaths in excess of normal levels compiled by The New York Times.

The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation has estimated that as many as 378,000 Americans will have died in the pandemic by the end of the year if current trends continue.

The United States has recorded about 20 percent of the world’s fatalities even though the country is home to just 4 percent of the global population.

The country is in dire need of reforms and changes, but when 40% of the country is willing to swallow obvious lies, destroy the democratic system, and harm themselves in order to... what, own the libs? I guess? That makes it difficult to get people onboard with the neccessary changes which have to be made.

Bloomberg has raised 16 million dollars to pay the court fines and fees of nearly 32,000 Black and Hispanic Florida voters with felony convictions to order to allow them to vote.

Just throwing it out there that Bloomberg is so wealthy there was no need for him to "raise" those funds, he could've just done it.

Cunningham leads Tillis 44-39 in latest poll. Thats a widening in recent days. The court vacancy might be having an effect though its hard to say.

Just had to add that in there. But yeah, it's disheartening: most likely, the truth and fact-checking will be frowned upon, if not flat-out rejected.

Thermodolia wrote:Why do you think so many people are turning towards extremism? People don’t see a way out and extremist ideologies offer a way out

Indubitably. However, some of those extremes have brought people down some very dark paths, paths that ultimately lead to some form of anti-intellectualism. The world as a whole seems to be experiencing that right now, and technology is amplifying that. 2020 I think will undoubtedly pivot one way or the other.

Biden is targeting rural voters via radio ads. The ads are set to run in smaller markets outside of metropolitan hubs in Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona and Nevada. It will appear during news, sports and agricultural programming, according to a Biden aide.

And being the egomaniac Trump is, he can't stand anyone speaking ill of him on his own turf and is likely to double down and burn away more of his own funds.

Gotta do something with the 100+ million dollar advantage, yknow. Plus writing off certain areas as "certainties" is generally bad politics and more universal (so-called "50 State") strategies tend to be more successful.

I wonder if the debates will be more hectic than last time. I reckon tension would be higher this time around.

Gotta do something with the 100+ million dollar advantage, yknow. Plus writing off certain areas as "certainties" is generally bad politics and more universal (so-called "50 State") strategies tend to be more successful.

A fifty state strategy is more viable long term. Plus a all county strategy should be adopted by state parties too.
