I like dueling headlines within a single source almost as much as I like tracing a single story across various sources.

Is the battle for SCOTUS now a Democratic rallying point the way it was for Republicans in 2016...
A new Marquette University Law School poll paints the landscape well. Nationally, it finds that 59% of Biden voters say that appointing the next Supreme Court justice is very important to their vote. Compare that with only 51% of Trump voters.

This finding matches what we saw in a CNN/SSRS poll last month. In that poll, 78% of Biden backers told pollsters that nominating the next justice was extremely or very important to their vote. That compared with 64% of Trump supporters. (It was 47% Biden supporters and 32% Trump supporters who said it was extremely important.)

Compare these numbers to what we saw heading into the 2016 election. The final CNN/ORC poll in that cycle showed that 58% of Trump supporters said that nominating the next Supreme Court justice was extremely important to their vote, while only 46% of Hillary Clinton voters said the same. In the 2016 exit poll, Trump beat Clinton by a 15 point margin among those who put Supreme Court appointments as the most important factor to their vote.

In other words, it seems, at least initially, that unlike in 2016, a Supreme Court nominating fight could be more of a motivating factor for Democrats than Republicans.

Or, is it the congressional rally cry that McConnell was waiting for:
Top Senate Republicans are privately arguing that it would boost their chances of holding the majority in November if their party makes a full-throated effort at confirming President Donald Trump's pick for the Supreme Court, according to multiple GOP sources, despite their past posture that such nominees should not be confirmed in a presidential election year.

Behind the scenes, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calculating whether he has the votes to quickly confirm Trump's eventual nominee to the Supreme Court, focusing in large part on the party's most vulnerable Republicans facing voters in less than two months. The Kentucky Republican could only lose three senators of his 53-47 majority and still confirm the pick with a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Mike Pence.

The argument, according to Senate GOP sources, is that getting behind Trump's pick will energize the Republican base and woo conservative-leaning voters who are uncertain about backing Trump and the GOP this fall. Opposing the nominee, they argue, will only cause a backlash from their party's supporters and might not be enough to win over Democratic voters who are already inclined to back their opponents.

Imagine thinking SCOTUS meaningfully checks the legislature and the executive.

Imagine thinking that was my point.

That's a new complaint. Parking lots. I'll send it up to Inslee and see how he likes it. After all, he's a Democrat.

Cars and everything that come along with them have destroyed cities with wasted space and freeways. Horrible infrastructure for the deadliest and least efficient mode of transportation by a country mile to the detriment of all other forms of transit.

Holy fuck, look at you, making a relevant and current post in the election thread that isn’t some sort of chest beating throwing leaves over your head yay team post. Good for you. I know that sounds sarcastic but it’s not. More this, less that.

Few notes, though. First, link to the poll. You don’t have to give the score of the pollsters like some do but it’s nice. Also, when available, try and tie it into some sort of progression, is it getting better or worse for whoever, are you pitching this as a tipping point? Etc,.

You can do it, I believe in you.

Entirely anecdotal so take it as you will but I've seen a lot of renewed interest in voting Republican from people who were either disinterested or felt unsure about sticking the GOP this year if they manage to get a nominee in.

No I'm just ideologically consistent. I would greatly prefer that those landmark decisions weren't reliant on a tiny body of people making the right choice. If the rulings had gone the other way I would still be in favor of weakening or abolishing the court.
