[Bug?] RMB posts of CTE nations with released names

Postby Merni » Mon Sep 14, 2020 1:24 am

When a nation CTEs, its name is released and a new nation is founded with the same name, it appears that all posts on RMBs made by the old ("Ancient") nation are attributed to the new nation -- and the new nation has control (editing, self-deleting) over them. Is this an intended feature or a bug?

Some examples can be seen in the posts here. The nations Firebird1470, Inosensia, DRACOEN, Piscenn, Roslynne and Delta of the labyrinth are all nations which CTEd and have been refounded with the released name (at least some of them for nostalgic/fun reasons). All the posts on the linked page obviously belong to the original incarnations, but are still attributed to the current incarnations. The owner of the current incarnation of Delta of the Labyrinth was today even able to self-delete the posts made by its previous incarnation on that page.
(In case you need confirmation that the posts really have been deleted today like I said, I have an archive of the RMB from last month (made using my tool) which can prove it)

This is probably intended, as the new nation takes over. At least according to Me.

I asked about this once. It is so because not many nation names which are released still have RMB posts.

IDK if editing them is possible, but editing (and deleting) a CTEd and replaced nation's dispatches (which also look like the new nation created them) isn't. The dispatches don't show up when you search for dispatches written by the new nation and the Boneyard shows that the old one wrote them (the search page you find by clicking the link in the boneyard uses the nation ID instead of the name), but the dispatch pages still look like the new nation wrote them: https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=262354

Thanks for the report. This should be fixed now in the majority of cases.

There are some nations that predate our recording of founding dates, but for everyone else--which might be everybody, when it comes to reused nation names--nations should no longer be able to edit or delete RMB posts made before they were founded.
