Name: Carter Graystone
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:

Young Blood?: No

Bio:
Despite his very cheery, bubbly, and carefree demeanor, Carter had a rough early childhood. He was born in rural Iowa, a state within the United States of America, as an accidental pregnancy to parents who had just turned eighteen. However, his father had a serious drinking problem and refused to get help, which lead to serious anger management issues and further drug problems on his behalf. The family struggled financially due to his father's drug issues, and domestic violence became very common in the household.

Eventually, when Carter was seven, his father was killed in a serious car accident, after attempting to drive home under the influence of alcohol. His mother began to suffer depression due to her unstable home and personal life, and due to a combination of mental illness and unemployment, decided to send Carter to foster care, as she could no longer properly care for the boy.

As such, it was the beginning of a five-year tenure in the foster care system for Carter, as he bounced around from foster home to foster home across the USA. He became very sullen and rebellious towards his foster parents, as well as school and community authorities. He began to break curfews and stay up late, skip school, steal his foster parents' money, engage in petty pranks and bullying in his middle school, you name it. He wasn't a bad person, just angry and unknowing of how to deal with his pain.

However, his life changed forever when he was thirteen. His mother reached out to him and his social worker's office. His mother had found new work as a movie make-up artist/hair-stylist, married a university professor from California, and moved to San Diego, and now wanted to take Carter back.

At first, he was reluctant to leave, feeling resentful at his mother for abandoning him as a child. However, over the next three years, he eventually warmed up, came back to life. He began to do slightly better in school, despite being hindered by ADHD issues, get along better with his parents, and generally became much less surly and trouble-making. But despite finally finding a nurturing, safe home, and becoming much happier, he began to feel unsatisfied with school and life, feeling as if he wasn't making a difference. And so, under the name "Aeolus", he began to fight crime in the nighttime streets of San Diego, mostly taking care of petty thieves, drug dealers, robbers, pimps, the general slim pickings for heroes. This continued on for some time until a chance encounter with his future teammates, solidifying him as a member of the Young Bloods.

After a short stint with the Young Bloods, aiding them on missions, battling renowned threats such as Inferno, Dante, and the Cabal, and working 24/7 to end major criminal operations in San Diego, the hero known as Aeolus would drop a collective bombshell on superhero fandom and the national press.

Retirement.

After the Warwolf forces had withdrawn, Aeolus announced his retirement from the Young Bloods in a public statement and several interviews afterwards, claiming that he harbored no ill will towards the team or any of the members, but simply withdrew to focus on his family and studies. When asked if he would continue to fight crime as a vigilante, the answer was no, that he was retiring from all heroism-related activities in general. It was a big shocker for most of the collective public; a few heroes had come and gone, but none in such an abrupt manner, and none with as much stature in the team as Aeolus. Unlike others, who had stuck to the back of the huddle during press conferences and quietly aided the fights, Aeolus was always a prominent figure, noted by the press and social media for his flamboyancy, unorthodox maneuvers, and positive attitude towards the media, even giving out his real name when interviewed at the San Diego Zoo. There was buzz and paparazzi for a few weeks, but eventually it died away in wake of the NASL Tournament, giving Aeolus his ultimate wish; a peaceful, private life.

The statement was mostly true; Carter was tired of the pressure put on him to succeed, and felt frustrated by his inability to measure up to his teammates. It made him feel like a failure, and failure was always on his mind wherever he went. He couldn't concentrate on school, work, or even daily life without being noticed in public. It was so bad he began wearing sweatshirts in the blazing San Diego summer to help obscure his face, aided by bandannas, baseball caps, sunglasses, whatever he could use to hide his face from the world. There was only one way to make it all stop, and it was to quit the Young Bloods and go underground. So that's what he did. He packed his bags, left Wonder Tower, and hid at home until the cameras stopped flashing and everyone forgot about him. He was planning a great final two years of high school, excited for whatever was to come. The track team, basketball at the park, skateboarding, all the things he never had time for while doing heroic work.

But then, straight out of the blue, a call to the Graystone residence came from V.K Randhawa, one of the most prominent directors in Bollywood cinema, known internationally for action blockbusters like "Admissions Open", "Madras Kee Sadak", and "Miss Thevar", requesting a meeting with Carter Graystone. Carter had his reservations, but the meeting was in a public place, and Carter was a former superhero, so what could go wrong?

Absolutely nothing.

Carter always thought he was a moderately popular Young Blood; he had some stature and public persona, but he wasn't an extremely popular figure like Roy or Alexis. Turns out, there was one country where he was an extremely popular figure; India. Leave it to the home of some of the most flashy cinema in the world to develop a cult following for the flashiest member of the Young Bloods. Randhawa had seen Carter's acrobatic abilities while fighting with the Young Bloods, and wanted him to work as a stuntman for his new film, "Nashvar Bhagavaan", known to American markets as "Mortal God". This film was a special one; Chatur Padhya, better known as the New Delhi Nagas' leader Garuda, was making his cinematic debut as the lead role, and having Aeolus as Garuda's stunt double would make for double the press, and double the fanfare.

At first, Carter was hesitant. This whole thing could be a trap, and he was reluctant to come back into the public spotlight after just exiting it. So he did some research, and turns out, it was a real thing. V.K Randhawa was a real director, and the movie was a real thing; interview after interview and article after article could be found online about it. Besides, it was in a foreign country, and it would do some good to distract attention from his past heroics and onto his screen career. American press might not even pick up on it. After some begging and pleading to his parents (along with a personal appearance from V.K Randhawa himself), he finally convinced them to let him go to India for a few months to shoot the film. They had been meaning to go on a vacation for a week or two anyways, a plan made much easier without a moping Carter in the house. In a few weeks, he had his packed bags, his temporary work visa, his hostel reservations, and boarding passes ready as he prepared to travel to Chandigarrh, India for the next great adventure in his life.

Powers:
  • Aeromancy: Carter can manipulate air in all forms, including air, wind, gas, vapor, and much more. He can manipulate the molecules to perform several different attacks and maneuvers. These include wind gusts and waves, balls of condensed wind, smokescreens, clouds of gas, etc. As well, he can manipulate the individual molecules to speed up or slow down, simulating the effects of heat energy being exerted. This can, with time, turn gases into liquids, although he can't control them once they become liquid. This also helps him speed up and slow down the actual wind itself, turning extremely calm breezes to wild gales and vice versa. He can even remove the air from a certain area, creating small vacuums. He has been working on some other skills to add to his aerokinetic bag of tricks, including using air to create insulation from heat and electricity, generating heat and electricity via friction, using air pressure to land harder strikes and sharper blows, nullifying or amplifying sound using airwaves, and creating explosions with compressed gases.

  • Like The Wind: Carter doesn't just control wind, his body acts like it. He has faster reflexes, light-footedness (doesn't make noise when he walks/runs), acrobatic abilities, and overall more speed, agility, metabolism, and leaping prowess than a normal human.

  • Enhanced Senses: In a form of tactile telekinesis, Carter has a thin field of air molecules that constantly orbit and lay over his body. While they cannot protect Carter from any harm like in traditional tactile telekinesis, what they can do is enhance his hearing and touch. The molecules vibrate very quickly, and when he concentrates and manipulates this field of air, it can sense vibrations in the air. Usually, this manifests in either a "radar sense" (being able to detect disturbances in the air), enhanced touch (being able to enhance the molecules surrounding his fingers to get a better tactile feedback, or enhanced hearing (amplifying the midair vibrations around him).

Limitations:
  • While he does have the strength to throw some human male adults around, he can't exactly throw cars and bend trees. With enough time and concentration, and in good shape, he can toss a 200lb human around, but definitely won't be destroying any cars. And while he can stop things that are moving slow enough by creating large amounts of drag, he can't stop small, extremely fast objects like bullets. Sure, they won't kill him, but they will leave a mark and will feel pretty bad.

  • As well, many of his very powerful attacks, such as turning gas into a liquid and creating vacuums, require time and concentration to perform, sometimes taking longer than thirty seconds. As well, for him to be able to do said complex powers and throw men around, he needs to be in good condition. If he's tired or injured, he becomes weaker.

Weaknesses:
  • Mental Attacks: Carter is vulnerable to telepathy, possession, and other mental attacks. Granted, it can be tricky to strike him effectively with one, but if an enemy can, he's helpless.

  • Frail: Carter is only human, and his powers give him very little in the way of defensive measures, enhanced durability, or armor. As a result, if you can catch up to him, it's easy to give him a battering. Especially because he can be injured or killed by anything an ordinary human can. While it is difficult to catch him, it's not impossible, as his top speed is currently sitting around 32-35 MPH, and as a result, he can be caught up to and beaten. So, in conclusion, he's a major glass cannon.

  • Reckless: Carter tends to be reckless in terms of his power usage and attacks, making him very clumsy and prone to over-extending himself, literally having so much fun he forgets to breathe. Which is never a good thing in the heat of battle, as due to his high metabolism and the high amount of energy his power needs, he can fatigue very quickly.

Aaand there's another one for the archive, a long procrastinated app.

Name: Megan Salem
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Here
Young Blood?: No
Bio: Save for the fact that she was born in a family that bore a rather strange genetic mutation that affected her and her older sister's hair and eye color - one of many that were rather common in the age of heroes for some unknown reason - Megan's birth and childhood were mundane in every regard: fairly lax parents, a healthy number of friends, good (but not great) grades at school and a decidedly average aptitude for sports. Perhaps one of the few highlights of her early years was her parents' diligence to instill in her a love of reading much like they had done nine years earlier with her sister Morgana. Her father was a professor in a liberal arts college and her mother was the owner of an antique shop and an enthusiast of the occult, so from a young age she was introduced to Poe, Doyle and more.

During her middle school years Megan discovered a passion for cutting and styling her own hair and other people's, which culminated in the girl deciding that she was going to be a hair stylist for the rich and famous when she was older. Her parents seemed surprised both at the radical departure from their own trades and at the confidence she seemed to have, but ultimately seemed supportive. Throughout middle school and high school she gained experience by practicing on willing friends and classmates, and once she graduated high school, rather than waste time on whatever esoteric college degree would line up with her interests, she decided to start working her way up in the industry, which naturally meant first getting a job in some small time salon. With her now adult sister living on her own and her parents providing a steady income that provided for all three of them to live comfortably, most of her earnings went into saving, as she hoped to open up her own place eventually.

Her life wasn't quite as simple as that, however. Another important event that took place during middle school was the discovery of her powers. Needless to say, waking up one day while holding a huge scythe that didn't seem to weigh anything in her hands wasn't the most pleasant experience, and she was quite frightened at first, but the scythe's voice - or so she claims - was swift to calm her down and explain the details of its existence. The following months, much of her free time was spent heading out on her own and finding some secluded place to test out the limits of the scythe - she had little interest in becoming a superhero like the ones from TV, but she figured it could always come in handy. Over time, she and the scythe became good friends, and it almost certainly had some degree of influence in her whimsical personality.

Without having too many aims in life other than slowly working towards her goals of opening up her own hair salon and eventually becoming famous, Megan spends her days working or hanging out with her sister, and often uses her powers to prank friends and strangers alike. There are likely better, more constructive ways for her to use the scythe, but she's content to do as she pleases.
Powers:
  • [Don't Fear The Reaper]: Unlike other superhumans, who gain enhanced physical abilities or become capable of manipulating an element, Megan has the uncanny ability to summon and dismiss a large scythe at will. The scythe itself has various powers, chief among them the ability to sever anything the blade touches - just a light tap is enough to sever an object at the point of contact. Any object thus affected will continue to function as before, with the caveat that a part severed from a mobile whole will not be able to continue moving on its own.

Upon dismissal of the scythe, parts severed from a whole will return to the whole and reattach, with the overall process causing no lasting damage to either organic or inorganic entities. Parts can be prevented from reattaching through force, but once limiting agent is gone, they will reattach as normal; if the whole succumbs while the part remains severed, however, the severed part will also succumb, and will not reattach.

While it remains summoned, the scythe confers Megan a degree of invulnerability: cutting and piercing attacks will, instead of harming her, affect her in the same manner her scythe affects other objects - she can move severed parts at will and can reattach them without needing to dismiss the scythe, and will suffer no lasting damage from the severing/reattaching process.

Megan can only summon the scythe by uttering its alleged name - Prince Omega - but can dismiss it with a thought at any moment. Virtually indestructible, it is light as a feather in her hands, yet cannot be lifted by other entities, no matter how strong; if the scythe remains summoned but is out of her hands, she can recall it from wherever it might be. Megan claims that the scythe talks to her sometimes and has the personality of an eccentric gentleman with a southern accent, but this is not verifiable. The scythe possesses limited shapeshifting capabilities, often assuming the form of a pen.

Limitations:
  • As mentioned, Megan's only power is to summon the scythe. If it is not manifest, she is no different from a regular human.
  • The scythe can only spend a grand total of five minutes away from her hands before disappearing, and if it disappears in this manner, it cannot be summoned again until next noon.
  • While essentially impossible to lift, the scythe does not possess infinite mass - it's a lump of metal weighing a few kilos, it won't crush buildings when thrown.
  • Unless used for bludgeoning, the scythe is entirely incapable of inflicting harm.

Weaknesses:
  • [Silence]: Megan needs to speak the scythe's name to summon it, so silencing her somehow will render her completely powerless - as mentioned, she's just a normal teenage girl without it.
  • [Surprise Factor]: Taking her by surprise or attacking faster than she can summon the scythe works just as well as silencing her.

Name: Aislinn McHarris
Age: 21
Gender: F
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible):
Image

Young Blood?: No
Bio:
The Mcharris family has dwelled in wealth and status since they came into lordship in the late 1300s. This didn't change even when the family split in the 1700's, when a branch of the family moved to the new world. To keep the family together, and to prevent the death of their heritage, it was customary for the older heir of one side to tutor the younger heir of the other. By establishing this friendship among cousins, the McHarris family continued to prosper throughout the generations.

In current times, this friendship was built between Daniel of America and Aislinn of Dublin. Aislinn had not learned much from the older yet more daft boy in her younger years in the ways of business, but still learned a bit about life and fun from that constantly bored teen. As they grew up they grew apart, but Aislinn could not deny that those years were the most fun years of her life. Thus, after years of lessons and preparations to one day take over the family company, she decided to visit America for college.

Since then she has learned what Daniel has gotten up to recently, and in an effort to once again call him a friend she became his "guy with a computer", giving him advice and aiding him in gathering equipment, such as his cane. However, recently, Daniel has been going off the mic more and mite often, with the criminal involved always being the same, Marionette. In an effort to rectify this, Aislinn plans to support the Young Bloods in their efforts to bring her down, and enlist those with more personal vendettas against her in her own.

Powers:
Rich: She has money.
Family Training: Unlike the Mcharris' of the US, the McHarris family of Ireland trained their children in the ways of fencing and boxing. This is purely for a scene with rules, but she at least knows how to use her fists and foils.
Athletic human physiology: She's fit.

Limitations :
  • Billionaire, not megahypernonillionaire:
    Her money can run out

Weaknesses :
  • [Pampered]: She is not accustomed to a tough life, so she isn't exactly good in high danger situations for now

Likes: Business, money, her cousin Daniel, horses
Dislikes: Sardines, Burgers, scam artists, Marionette

Name: Chase Collins "Rush"
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:
Image
Young Blood?: Yes
Bio: Chase was born as a super in a rather normal family. Well, exceptionally normal as he's the only super in his entire extended family. From his mom who works as a mechanic to his aunt Jill who is a Police Officer. Chase grew up believing that even if his parents never actually said so directly, that he was expected to be some great hero. Instead he showed far more interest in using his powers of speed for his sports games. First it was the Middle School Baseball team, where he was benched and eventually kicked off for 'cheating'. Then after that it was the Thomson High Basketball Team, again for 'cheating'. So when he is not at school he plays his sports in a neighborhood 'League' where everyone is a super and any powers are fair game. Of course this is all unofficial and Chase's sister who used to pester him to become a local hero has since stopped bugging him about it. What changed?

Well, the Young Bloods happened.

Chase himself barely payed any attention to their exploits. But Carol Collins has plastered her walls with her favorite members of the team and has recorded most of the highlight news reels of their various victories. A big fan of Makeshift, Crystal Heart and the Red Princess.
Powers:
  • [Super Speed]: (Chase has the power of speed. Naturally this branches into several smaller abilities such as reflexes but they manifest normally when he makes use of his super speed. Currently he is capable of running at speeds of about 350mph for short durations but normally cruises at around 200+ for longer periods)

Calorie Intake: The average human consumes roughly 2000 calories a day for their needs. Chase normally eats roughly 5x that if he plans to make use of his abilities throughout the day. Naturally the amount he needs increases or decreases with how hard he works himself but the side effects of not meeting his needs could leave him fainted or at the least weakened.[/list][/box]
Weaknesses:
  • [Traction]: (Chase's abilities can be hard countered if he is unable to gain the traction he needs to run. An example would be if the ground were frozen, like trying to run in a hockey ring)

Likes: Baseball, Basketball, Video Games, Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Rock Music, Competition, Family
Dislikes: Losing

Name: Marcella “Marcy” Salazar / Changeling
Age: 18
Gender: F
Race: Human
Appearance:

Young Blood?: Pink Floyd!
Bio: Marcy’s life did not start out on a high note. Born to the slums of the Condemned District, she grew up in the family of an impoverished, drunkard card shop owner, into a family of several children, many of whom she doesn’t even remember existed. While her parents might not have been the worst and tried to make it through, the life around them certainly was - cold, miserable, constantly marred by conflict. Fending off homesquatters, fighting and beating up her siblings, hiding from gangs occupying the streets or taking the fight back to them, and fleeing the increasingly common superhuman battle were all daily occurrences. Marcy had one difference from her siblings and parents, however. She wasn’t sure how, but ever since early childhood, she felt an innate connection with something out of the world. She wasn’t sure what it was, but just thinking about it would rejuvenate her spirit. It wasn’t superpowers, but rather something different. Two differences actually - the other being that, because of an unknown mutation, she was born with heterochromia - she doesn’t know whether this has something to do with that connection or whether it is just a freak coincidence and she doesn’t really care.

What Marcy exhibited was a connection with magic, and it was what drew the attention of the Thirteen Points Church - an inconspicuous looking institution, perhaps, but one which took it to themselves to collect magical conduit children across San Diego and the Western Seaboard by any means possible. One day, when she was ten years old, two old men would arrive at her family home and inform her that she is going to have to come with them - and her parents just waved her on. Marcy didn’t know about it at first, but the Church bought her out from her family home to bring her to their church, where she would live with the rest of their magical conduit wards and learn to tap into her connection - for the time being, and she’d be able to return to her family once her studies were complete. Years of grueling, arduous study followed. Nobody ever said magical study was easy, after all. She had a knack for the art, however, and quickly took a liking at one spell in particular - an advanced spell in the art of imitative magic, named Wechselkind. The scriptures of the Thirteen Points Church described it as the art of “acting upon the piece of oneself anyone leaves upon the items closest to them” - a rather terrible description, but she quickly discovered the true nature of the spell, and it left Marcy even more allured.

She did not do as well anywhere else, however. Removed from her family and scarred by her childhood, Marcy turned even more lonesome and silent, all while her magic skill turned her more and more haughty. That’s not to say that she had nothing to demand from the rest of the kids and teens who lived in the Church, even if silently. Integrated into society beyond the slums of the Condemned District, she soon became allured by its beauty, starting to pursue after the most recent and exciting fashion trends, all while hoping to stand out from the rest of the misfits under the care of the magical priesthood. Eventually, however, she had enough. Her magic studies were pretty much complete, she had zero sympathy for her peers in the Church and she wasn’t expecting to fit in with anyone anyway. So she fled. Under the noses of society, a silent hunt for the wayward Thirteen Points acolyte began, and several weeks later, one of the junior mages under the organization confronted her in a town several miles to the north of San Diego. There, faced with an assault of combined fire and water magic, Marcy finally put the Wechselkind spell to use - she put on a glove worn by a hulk of a man she had found drunk in a bar in the San Diego downtown, all of his superhuman powers instantly replicated by her.

That was also her first kill.

Now on the run both from police and the Thirteen Points, Marcy ended up a secluded vagabond, no goal guiding her but safety, until she finally fell into the hands of a person who could protect her. Maria Everdeen, secret alias Stage Fright, a stage magician by day and a supervillain terrorizing Sacramento by night. Marcy met her in the middle of a train robbery situation, where she, one of the many hostages taken by the eccentric villainess, rose to her side when the Sacramento Superstars attacked the train, even helping her escape - and Stage Fright decided to take her in as a sidekick. She gained the new name Changeling, representing her key ability, she received her trademark weapon, a stylish battle parasol by the name of Rendezvous, and became the right hand woman to Maria in all of her shenanigans. Serving a supervillain injected a needed sense of purpose in life, and Marcy absolutely loved it - all the opportunity to dress in the most cutting edge of fashion and take the spotlight, get a boatload of fun, and lash out all the suppressed bitterness in her mind on anyone who would dare to cross her way. Stage Fright would fulfill the need for maniacal laughter as their nemeses are pinned down on the ropes, and Changeling would bring the newest torture devices she happened to came across with a devilish, silent smile on her face.

Except there was one problem. Stage Fright sucked. Her attitude was in the right place, but she was completely incompetent. Her plans would often unfold before the Sacramento Superstars would even arrive to challenge them, and Changeling would need to calmly salvage the pieces. It was seriously starting to restrain her. The partnership between the two lasted a year and eventually turned sour - so Marcy did what she figured would work best for both of them. One night, she sneaked in through their duo’s secret lair, made her way to Maria’s wardrobe, picked out the costume she liked the most, and confronted her master with all of her newfound powers. Catching her by surprise, Marcy slit her throat and hid the corpse. Free of any allegiances, yet still as hunted as ever, she retreated to the criminal underworld. The mob, as unglamorous and pathetic as service to them was, provided a somewhat stable source of income.

The thought occurred to her to become an independent supervillain and cause havoc by herself, but she soon came to the conclusion that she would make a poor villain all by herself. Grandiose speeches, intimidating presentation, and acting were not her forte, speaking too much was always too troublesome for her, she was the silent one who did all the dirty work in the Changeling-Stage Fright duo. Fortunately, Marcy quickly found someone she could be of service to. With each passing month, more and more reports would come from her hometown - it was being terrorized by a new, yet seemingly independent supervillain. Marionette. All of the charm, all of the fashion, all of the drama, and at such a young age to boot! Silently, Marcy began to move her operations more and more back to San Diego, aiming to seek this “Marionette” out - the villainess could certainly use a sidekick. And perhaps, this “Marionette” will turn out better than her last superior.
Powers:
  • Imitative Magic - Wechselkind (Clothing-Based Power Replication): By putting on a piece of clothing, Marcy receives the powers and abilities of the person who last wore them, not counting herself. This includes “standard” superhuman abilities, magical powers, and skills which are in some way unnatural, if any. The act of putting on a piece of clothing with a power signature attached also transfers all of the memories of the original wearer directly related to said powers - using them, training with them, employing them for various combination moves, etc.

How much clothing needs to be put on to fully transfer a power or ability depends on the nature of said ability. If the ability in question is a skill, such as martial arts mastery or magic, then any piece of clothing is enough. Superhuman powers carry over only to the parts of her body which are covered by the person’s clothing, however. So, for example, if she puts on a glove worn by someone with fire powers, only her hand will have access to those fire powers.
    • Current clothing: Currently, Marcy wears the clothes of Maria Everdeen, an eccentric stage magician and supervillain - from her, she inherits low-level superhuman strength, agility and endurance, as well as fighting skills.

Marcy also keeps a few other outfits with herself, some for their powers, some for their fashion, as well as the gloves of a few people whose skills come of use, such as the glove of one supernatural hacker, one who can summon flashes of light with their hands, etc.
  • Rendezvous: Marcy’s parasol, which is secretly a capable fencing sword. Its base is reinforced and strong enough to parry real weapons, and its tip hides a steel blade which she can withdraw with the flick of her wrist. The parasol itself is reinforced with narrow light threads, giving it versatility as a shield while remaining light and mobile.

It also acts as the wand for her magical Wechselkind enchantment.

Limitations:
  • Filling the Wardrobe: The nature of the Wechselkind spell means that Marcy is unable to replicate the powers of others on the fly - aside for a weird situation where she is able to undress her opponent to put on their clothes, she is reliant solely on preparation in advance.
  • Putting it to Use: Marcy is only able to harness powers via the Wechselkind spell for the duration where she is wearing the original person’s clothes. If she has put on one costume, she cannot use the powers of another. And though she keeps several gloves in her pockets for ease of power switching, she still has to physically put them on in order to access their powers.
  • Clothes Resetting: Marcy can only wield the powers of the last person who wore the piece of clothing in question. If a person with no extraordinary abilities puts on that piece of clothing, the power signature will reset and she will lose the powers she used to gain from it.
  • Extraordinary Abilities Only: Marcy can put on the clothes of species other than humans (if her body shape allows for it), but she can only harness abilities which are extraordinary for the species of the original wearer. This includes, among other things, superpowers, magic, and rare skills which only a select few people are able to do. She cannot replicate the flight of a Dra’Quinni or the supernatural voice of a Hadrian, for example - those powers are ordinary for the members of their species.

It’s a magic spell, it can tell what’s ordinary and what is not, don’t worry.
  • Power Signature: The powers which Marcy receives via the Wechselkind spell are equal to the powers which the last wearer of the piece of clothing had upon taking it off the most recent time. This is the energy inprint onto the fabric (or other material) which composes the clothing and from which Marcy’s spell draws its power - a power signature. This power signature only updates upon the person putting the clothing on and taking it off again. Therefore, if Marcy puts on the clothes of a superhero and that superhero develops new powers, she will not have access to those powers.

Weaknesses:
  • The Head: People do not usually wear clothing which covers one’s head, that is, hats, helmets, etc. nor does Marcy want to cramp her fashion sense with a cap unfitting to the rest of her uniform. Because of the way her powers work, however, it means that her head is unaffected by powers she’s replicated unless she finds a hat with a power signature somewhere. In her usual clothes, for example, the rest of her body has superhuman endurance, but her head is as strong as that of a normal person.
  • Anti-Magic: Since Wechselkind is a magic spell, abilities and technology which nullifies magic will nullify her abilities as well.
  • Weakness Transferal: Marcy inherits the limitations and weaknesses of all powers which she receives.

Likes: Going after fashion trends. Good cooking. Not having to say anything. A good old round of cathartic murder.
Dislikes: Clothing, architecture and food which lack aesthetics. Public speaking. Getting foiled.

Name: Augusta Mayer, Tidal
Age: 24
Gender: M
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible): https://akamai-origin.myanimelist.net/images/characters/4/54010.jpg
Young Blood?: Nope
Bio: Augusta Mayer was a normal kid in upstate California until one day when he discovered a small, glowing object rolling at the bottom of a creek. He dove in without much thought and grabbed it, and chaos ensued. When he finally came to, the crystal had found its way into his chest and the he was at the bottom of the creek bed, the water circling around him.

Eventually he gained more control of his powers, and became stronger with them. Still, he lived a mostly normal life and got through high school and 2 years of college. However, after a general studies associates degree and a lot of aimless wandering, Augusta officially went into heroism under the moniker Tidal. Since then, he has done a lot of hero work up and down the california coastline, and currently resides between LA and San Diego.
Powers:
  • [Hydrokinesis]: Living up to his name, Tidal has the ability to move mass amounts of water and use it as a weapon. Near a large enough body of water he can easily cover a large cruise ship, and can use the ability a myriad of ways. This includes creating air pockets by moving water away from an area, enhanced swim speed, and creating liquid constructs such as water snakes or hands to catch people.
  • [Enhanced human condition]: Due to his travels to the deeper parts off the coast, Augusta has gained an enhanced strength and durability on top of his preexisting enhanced condition. This doesn't allow for any crazy feats but he can take a hit from a shotgun rather well and lift a baby elephant with strength alone.

Limitations :
  • Water Volume: Can only move a max of 100 million gallons of water, or about the amount to cover a cruise ship.
  • Range: He can only move water within eyesight or within 20 feet outside of eyesight.
  • Pressure: Even with his enhanced status he can only go so far down, where either the lack of light or the amount of pressure will stop him.

Weaknesses:
  • [Electricity]: Salt water, what he mostly uses, is highly conductive. He's usually in contact with it. A loose wire can be dealt with but an electric villain has to be dealt with in other ways.
  • [Poisons]: Much like a fish in polluted water, a poisoned or oil filled water is much harder to deal with and he can't move it to make an air bubble in order to breathe.

I decided to make an NPC hero around the San Diego area as well, just in case one is ever needed for a post, a scene, or whatever. Hope this works.

Name: Miriam Al-Sabry
Age: 45, but due to the benefits of decelerated aging, she has the biological body of someone in their late 20's.
Gender: Female
Race: Dhampir
Appearance:
Image

Young Blood?: WHO?

Bio: Not much is really known of Miriam Al-Sabry's past. Sure, we have the basic facts. She was born in 1972 to parents of Egyptian descent in Fremont, California. It is also known that she is a dhampir, with a DNA test confirming human ancestry on her paternal side, and vampire ancestry on her maternal side. Official American marriage records have a certificate from 1969 belonging to couple Mohamed Al-Sabry and Reem Al-Sabry, and divorce records have a certificate from 1974 belonging to the same culprits, but it's unclear as to what lead up to 1969, what occurred during that happy five-year period, and what triggered 1974. It's not really a suspicious occurrence, though. There have been countless cases of vampires deserting their stances of isolation in order to chase humans that they've fallen in love with, and judging by Miriam's silence whenever asked about it, it seems as if she is a result of one of these cases. It would explain the hasty marriage, and even hastier divorce; things tend to go pear-shaped in a relationship when one finds that their spouse is a vampire.

Once again, we have little knowledge of her childhood and adolescence, aside from the paper records. It is known that her mother raised her, as shown by official school guardianship forms. Interviews with the few surviving teachers from her elementary, middle, and high school days would reveal that she was a quiet, shy, yet incredibly intelligent girl, who responded to attendance with martial discipline and had no disciplinary record. Her college of choice, U of C Davis, received a transcript with stellar academic performance, and promptly admitted her into an undergraduate program. After completing a Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Sciences, as well as a Master's in Crime Scene Investigation after a brief trip to Washington, she returned home to California, and began work as an independent hero in San Diego, taking advantage of the vacuum of metahuman protection left over in the wake of the San Diego Dolphins' collapse.

Nowadays, she continues to work as a hero within San Diego, while also finding a way to put those degrees to good use. She's a "police-sponsored hero" of sorts, often collaborating with the police during forensics investigations, providing intel, and generally offering a hand whenever it's necessary. She hasn't quite won over the trust of many force members (and for that matter, the public), thanks to her secretive nature, half-vampire ancestry, and odd magical capabilities, but she is highly respected by the government and police for her work, which allows some of the more vague aspects of her upbringing and family life to be hand-waved away.

Powers:
  • Dhampir Physiology: As a dhampir, Miriam benefits from an enhanced condition and form that elevates her beyond the levels of even a peak human. This includes enhancements in strength, speed, stamina, senses, reflexes, and endurance, as well as a regenerative healing factor. Her maximum punching strength is enough to penetrate through a standard car door, and if she wanted to, she could easily lift and throw that same car. She can take shots to the torso from small firearms such as pistols and revolvers with ease (although heavier weapons, such as shotguns and sniper rifles do pose more of a threat). Although she's not much of a runner, she has been clocked at speeds of 40 km/h, easily outstripping even the quickest of Olympic sprinters with ease. Her healing factor is not to be underestimated either, as with it, she is able to repair broken bones in minutes, and repair damaged or severed limbs in hours. While the average vampire severely outclasses her in strength, speed, and overall condition, as well as certain powers (psionics, wall-crawling, shapeshifting, etc.), she does have one advantage over a vampire; daywalking. Despite being a nocturnal creature, she can withstand direct exposure to sunlight, although extended contact isn't great for her body.

  • Blood Magic: Miriam has also proven herself to be an adept mage, specializing in a form of blood-based, haemokinetic magic. She claims that her father instructed her in the art during her childhood and teenage years, and that she has been honing them independently ever since. Some applications of this magic include:
    • Haemokinetic Shapeshifting: Upon ingesting the blood of a living creature, she can essentially "copy" their form, shapeshifting into a perfect doppelganger with identical superhuman abilities, magical powers, and certain skills and abilities. This form can last anywhere from a few minutes to hours depending on how much blood is ingested.
    • Supernatural Tracking: By casting a spell on a sample of one's blood, Miriam can track/sense them. If the subject is very close by, the sensing abilities will be very fine and accurate, allowing for her to easily pursue her target. However, at longer distances, this sense becomes more of a general compass, and will get progressively more or less accurate the more she moves towards or away from the target. As with the shapeshifting, the duration of this tracking ability depends on the amount of blood.
    • Blood-Based Psionics: Using a sample of one's blood, Miriam can conjure a mental image of their current state, as well as experience limited precognition and retrocognition of that living thing's life. For example, if investigating a murder scene covered in blood, Miriam could take a large sample of it and use retrocognition in order to "rewind" back half an hour into their life and view the end of their life, in order to determine cause. Once again, this depends on the amount of blood. If it's a gory scene, she could likely view the last hour of a victim's life. If she only has a small vial to work with, she'll only see one, maybe two minutes before the end of life.
  • Combat Training: Due to her work as a colleague of sorts to the San Diego Police Force, Miriam is trained in hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship. She won't be winning any world championships, but it's enough to keep cool in a fight and shoot a gun straight.

Limitations:
  • Blood Diet: While her dependence on blood is not as strong as a pure vampire, she does need blood in order to function. Without an adequate supply, her physical condition and magical abilities will quickly deteriorate, and soon become unusable. Heavy use of her magical abilities and/or her powers in a short amount of time can actually lead to her metabolism spiking somewhat, requiring even heavier blood consumption than what was previously required.

  • Limited Magical Capabilities: While she is a fairly proficient mage, as mentioned in the Powers section, her abilities are severely limited by the quantity of blood available. On a small vial or jar of blood, there's not much she can do. She can shapeshift for five minutes, keep a tracking scent for fifteen, or see two, maybe three minute's worth of precognition or retrocognition. If she wants her magicial abilities to be even somewhat useful, she's going to need a lot of blood in order to make it happen. Additionally, while her tracking sense is useful, it can be hindered by distance, as the farther away the prey gets, the more general and subtle the tracking sensation is. Finally, and this is very important, tainted blood is significantly less effective than pure, fresh-drawn blood. Miriam can sometimes mix blood from herself or others into a batch to produce a larger quantity, but this can reduce the effectiveness of the magic and lead to weaker spells. Even if say, a pool of blood on the ground was derived from a single victim, the magic would still be weakened by the presence of foreign particles such as dirt and pebbles in the blood.

Weaknesses:
  • Vampire's Weaknesses: While Miriam is not as susceptible to traditional vampire weaknesses as, well, a traditional vampire, she can still suffer from many of these fatal flaws. Impalement through the heart is the most surefire way to end her life, that much is carried over. Holy water and other forms of angelic/holy magic are also effective against Miriam and can even temporarily dampen or nullify powers, although this occurs rarely. Even sunlight is a threat. Yes, she can daywalk for several hours at a time, but if she spends several hours or more in direct exposure to sunlight, it can cause her to deteriorate physically and suffer terrible burns.

  • Magic: While magic is a valuable asset to her, it can also be her worst enemy. Those with the ability to nullify or negate magic can easily counter her hemokinesis, rendering her reliant on her physical condition. As well, those with psionic magic (or any other superhuman with psionic powers) can render her vulnerable within seconds, as she possesses no resistance to mental attacks beyond the standard will and resistance of the average human.

  • Blood Rage: While Miriam is able to control her bloodlust most of the time, being exposed to very large quantities of it can cause her to lose mental clarity and lucidity, and submit to a desire to fulfill her hunger. This is especially true if her metabolism has spiked, or she hasn't ingested any blood recently.

Likes: Blood, good coffee, good wine, gardening, knitting, kite-flying, autumn.
Dislikes: Blood-hunger, bad coffee, beer, cats, reality TV, deep water, the summertime.

Name: Rika Nagato, Nue
Age: 20 at time of death
Gender: F
Race: Human
Appearance (pics if possible): Image
Bio: Rika, like all the Wonder Warriors, had been living a normal life until she was abducted by Excelsior. She underwent horrible treatments, and only had one person she commonly saw during her time there, a girl by the name Angelica. Rika got her powers before any of the others, transforming and nearly ripping off the arm of the person who was treating her. It was with this that the group went harder on the others, and Rika eventually witnessed Angelica's death....then return.

When they escaped, Rika came to be the only person outside of the scientists that knew about Angelica's true power of reincarnation, and the two girls quickly became close friends. Rika returned to her parents and vowed to help Angelica find hers, though nothing ever panned out. She joined with the other survivors quickly and joined the Wonder Warriors.

While fame didn't go to her head as badly as it had their leader, Rika still got a little too comfortable. When not doing hero work she could commonly be seen on advertisements, magazines, and entering any club she so wished. At home and at the tower her energy didn't let up, and she would tease her best friend about her boyfriend, the girly looking nerd Calculator.

Her death was highly studied even without remains to be found. Survivors claimed they saw her squaring off against Ares and Animaster. Upon her death she was resurrected by Necromancer, though what had become of her corpse after that is largely unknown. In the memory of the reincarnated Angelica, however,
a nightmare of the past plays over and over of her best friend from long away being burnt to ash.

Powers:
  • [Animal Features]: Rika could take on features of mammalian creatures at will, sometimes multiple of them, hence the name Nue, a Japanese chimera-esque creature.
  • [Superhuman Anatomy]: Even without transformations, Rika was stronger, faster, and more durable than most humans.

Limitations:
  • Range: She's a bruiser
  • 5 features max, none of the same type. For instance, she could be as fast as a cheetah and have the claws of a badger, but wouldn't be able to add on a rabbits speed

Weaknesses (Reasons why someone could kick their ass):
  • [Fire]: Simply put, she was a touch more flammable than most, and couldnt handle high temperatures too well.

Liked: Soccer, teasing her best friend, anime
Disliked: Maverick hitting on her, snakes, fire

Additional Information-
Birthday: Aug. 18th
Theme song:
Favorite food: 1/2 lbs bacon cheeseburger with pickles, jalapeños, tomato, avacado, and chipotle on a pretzel bun
Greatest fear: Burning to death

Name: Natalia Cohen
Age: 39
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance:
Image

Young Blood?: No

Bio: Natalia Cohen was born on December 3rd, 1980 in Miami, Florida, the newest addition to the city's growing Jewish population. In her childhood, she was often bullied and teased mercilessly in school for her tall, awkward, gangly frame, as well as her odd-looking eyes, which bore no white sclera of any sort despite the girl's insistence that she could see perfectly. Any time an opthamalogist would attempt to perform an eye exam on her, they would become too drowsy to hold their instruments still. Her parents were very busy with their careers as lawyers, and were more concerned about how their daughter appeared at public functions than what went on in her private life. Once it was figured out that she had superpowers, and that her eyes were hypnotic in nature, she was simply told to avoid making eye contact with others. No fanfare, no shock, not even the slightest emotional reaction. In fact, her first experience with modelling was a course for teenagers that Natalia was forced to attend by her mother so that she could correct her posture. Yet, the forced lessons were enough to set off a small spark in the young girl's mind. She was awkward for sure, but she was also attractive, and had a certain social charisma that made others flock to her. Even at that age, she knew that it wasn't just good looks and an extroverted personality, and that it was all connected to the way people kept staring into her eyes, but she wasn't quite sure how. Either way, if life was going to leave her stuck with these abilities, she might as well put them to good use.

So that's how she became a model. After graduating high school in Miami, she moved across the country to begin working towards a double-major in journalism and political science at the University of Southern California (later graduating magna cum laude), while also balancing a budding modelling career in various magazines, catalogs, and even the occasional runway. It wasn't a particularly lucrative or even transforming role, seeing as how she eventually decided to drop it in favor of a career in journalism, but it was essential in building up a name for herself as a public personality, and helped her snag a spot as a reporter for The American Canary, a large gossip magazine headquartered in California that had been struggling in recent times thanks to a high-profile libel suit, several debunked conspiracy theories, and a string of questionable leaders. She quickly moved up the ranks of the paper, soon graduating from reporter to feature writer and columnist, to host/presenter of the paper's online content, through several assistant and junior editor positions, and eventually, at the age of 37, the youngest editor-in-chief in the Canary's history, as well as the first woman to take the position.

In the two and a half years since she's taken control of the Canary, the paper has transformed from a high-quality tabloid to a reputable, entertaining, and household-name magazine, thanks to more rigorous fact-checking, better and more sleek graphic design, development of more online content, and most importantly, astoundingly swift, accurate, and juicy reporting methods. Superheroes were the worst hit; stories of famed superheroes's lavish party lifestyles and romantic affairs soon decorated the magazine's front page, and while some of it was little more than rumors, enough of the stories had evidence behind them to give the Canary what it had been lacking for fifteen years; credibility. Their big break came during the dissolution of the San Diego Dolphins, becoming the first news outlet to report on the Battle of Isla Coronado and the deaths of heroes Octave and Osprey, and even managing to get footage of the scene through an unmarked drone. Cohen herself has been known to be a scathing, if outspoken critic of the privatization and celebrity culture of Western hero teams, advocating for heroes to be regulated and to serve the public interest under European and African schools of thought. With the Young Blood's latest beatdown gracing the headlines of newspapers and television screens everywhere, it's uncertain how much ammo the young editor will load into her rifle of the written word.

Powers:
  • Enhanced Beauty: Natalya has been noted to possess beauty far beyond that of the average person, man or woman alike. It certainly helped during the days of her modelling career, and it most definitely has helped in the never-ending cycle of press conferences and interviews she's given since becoming editor of The Canary. It's worth noting that this is not a supernatural power along the lines of a siren or similar being; it's simply a combination of enhanced physical beauty, grace, and social poise that gives her an enhanced level of allure, charm, and sociability.

  • Enhanced Charisma: In addition to beauty, Natalia also possesses an extraordinary amount of charisma, far beyond that of even the most gifted public speakers. Think of her like a human magnet; she attracts people with pure sociability and charm, people naturally see her as a leader, they are often agreeable to her suggestions and demands, and are more willing to put their trust and loyalty in her and her causes. It isn't enough to subliminally seduce someone or force others into subordination, it simply makes her a very likable individual to almost anyone and everyone.

  • Hypnotic Eyes: The lack of sclera in Natalia's eyes isn't a cosmetic thing or weird defect; it's a superpower in and of itself. While her beauty and charm are usually enough to make most people suggestible to her orders and comments, when she needs a slightly stronger mental spell, her eyes can usually do the trick. Looking directly into her eyes for a prolonged duration of time can cause one to become progressively drowsy and uninhibited, experiencing a sensation akin to that of drunkenness. It's like an addiction; the longer and longer they look, the harder and harder it is to break free of her influence. Eventually, if eye contact is maintained for long enough, Natalia becomes able to enter their mind, first beginning with the ability to transmit basic thoughts, emotions, and impressions, and eventually revealing the contents of their entire mind to her, giving her the ability to both read the minds of and telepathically communicate with those under her influence. If the contact isn't broken at this time, this level of control will extend to the point where all conscious thought is vanquished from the person's mind, and they essentially become extensions of her own consciousness, mental slaves under her will. However, she has only achieved this three times in her life, and only two have lived to tell the tale.

Limitations:
  • Eye Contact: Her hypnotizing abilities only work with direct eye contact, and cannot be achieved through other mediums, such as photos and videos. Generally, the closer the two pairs of eyes are, the better. Additionally, it is worth noting that while her basic hypnosis powers take a fairly short amount of eye contact time to pull off, more complicated psionic powers such as telepathy and mind control will take hours in some circumstances, making it impractical for almost anything not in conjunction with her enhanced beauty/charisma.

  • No Attraction: Additionally, while her enhanced beauty will have effect on almost all people (the only ones unaffected being asexual individuals), the impact does depend on the sexual orientation of the affected. Typically, those that are naturally attracted to cisgender women will be more affected by Natalia's beauty, and while those that aren't attracted to cisgender women will still feel some effect, it will not be as great or alluring.

Weaknesses:
  • Strong Will: Those with either psionic/mental powers or with extremely strong willpowers can resist, and in some cases nullify the effect of Natalia's beauty, charisma, and hypnosis-based powers, leaving her empty-handed.

  • Not a Fighter: While Natalia's powers are certainly useful in a negotiation, the same cannot be said for a head to head brawl. Her non-offensive powerset leaves her thoroughly useless in combat situations, meaning that if she wants to play dirty, she has to get someone to do it for her.

Faction Name: The American Canary, often referred to as "The Canary" in passing.
Faction Location/Territory: Headquartered in San Francisco, CA, with a few regional offices across the USA.
Tech Level: Modern Tech

Description/Lore: The American Canary has been one of the fastest-growing, most well-received, and most infamous entertainment and gossip magazines in the United States, but fifteen years ago, it was little more than five college students with a basement, a printer, and a landline phone. So where did it start? And who did it start with? Well, it was with one man by the name of Jackson Smock, a fourth-year journalism student attending the University of Southern California on a scholarship, struggling to find creative inspiration for his final project. 2001 was a relatively calm year in the ongoing Age of Heroes, but as always, "relatively calm" is a synonym for "fairly tumultuous". The Treaty of New Horizons had just been signed, the Young Bloods Massacre was barely two years old, and League News was an ever-growing force in the world of media. The Hadrian touchdown and the resulting photo-ops of NASL teams both combating the various monsters and eldritch being erupting from the bottom of the ocean floor and engaging in peaceful diplomatic relations with humanity's newfound extraterrestrial friends had turned League News into a tour-de-force that sparked the general public's frenzy and obsession for anything superhero-related. As a cynical, starving college student who was barely scraping by thanks to educational assistance for low-income families, pondering away at 3 AM in a drafty apartment due to another wave of recurring insomnia that he couldn't afford medication for, Jackson was thoroughly unimpressed. He was sick of the glamour, the frills, and the superficial nature of current media, which had begun to bend and shift in order to closely emulate League News' winning formula. He wanted real news, something that would pull back the metaphorical curtain and only expose what was actually important, not leave it out. It would be a paper for the average American, a working class construction worker like his father, who would grab a copy for a dollar at the newsstand and read up on his way to the next job site. It was an alarm for when the smog and fumes of celebrity life threatened to choke out the average person, an alarm that brought them back to their senses. What better imagery than a canary, who's sacrificial chirps would signal the warnings for the working class coal miners deep within underground shafts?

The rest, as they say, was history.

It started as a project to pass college, but month after month, its popularity exploded like wildfire, especially once Smock and his team founded the magazine's online blog. An acquisition deal under a large tabloid company allowed the paper to reach a much wider audience outside of California, and by 2004, three years after the magazine was initially founded, the paper circulation numbers had reached 100,000 an issue, in addition to the thousands of people who visited the Canary's website on a daily basis. It was a lot of stress to carry for the magazine's founder and editor-in-chief, but he dealt with it. He found a proper headquarters, expanded the printing, hired more employees, did everything he needed to do to make the magazine an initial smash success and earn him a nice little profit. And then, in 2005, he retired, so he could keep the profit and use it to spoil his family without stress giving him chronic health problems to bankrupt him before 50. He may have made it out alright, but the paper he left behind? Not so much.

With Smock gone, the magazine was left in a state of no direction, unsure of its place within the market and the appeal that it contained. A new editor-in-chief was promoted, followed by another after three years, followed by another after two, followed by another after three, and a fourth for two more, all of whom dragged the magazine further and further into the asscrack of American journalism. Instead of focusing on the content inside, the attention of the editing team shifted towards the front cover, the "American" in "The American Canary". The covers became garish collages of text and picture, meant to make a quick sale off of a big headline rather than draw a reader in organically. Instead of articles that were critical of superheroism and promoted lifestyle, fashion, and health for the working class, the writing began to gossip over and idolize the nation's hottest celebrities, becoming full of circumstantial anecdotes on various NASL heroes' late-night escapades that bordered on conspiracy theory in the editorial realms. At first, it was a successful move; it allowed the paper to move into grocery stores as a somewhat high-quality alternative to the usual tabloid, and made waves on the Internet after every issue. The long-term effect wasn't quite as positive. People became disinterested in a magazine that had become so similar to the lowest common denominator when League News was a much more enriching alternative, and the circulation numbers began to fluctuate dangerously. Add to that the constant shifting of leadership as firing after firing took place, a libel suit from a superhero that the Canary had been falsely accused of domestic abuse (which was settled for a high fee), a cease and desist order from the Wonder Foundation, strings of employee layoffs due to a lack of cash flow, and the vast amount of partially or totally false articles that slipped their way past the extremely lax quality control, and the entire magazine seemed doomed for failure.

However, they did get one thing done amidst the chaos, and that one thing was video content. The fourth editor-in-chief, who's tenure lasted just three years from 2010-2013, had become successful in using YouTube to create a platform of video content for the magazine's online blog, opening up new job opportunities and creating an additional stream of advertising income for the business. It was a stopgap measure, meant to boost up numbers slightly and prevent the company from hemorrhaging so much money at a time when most magazines weren't even aware of YouTube's existence, but it ended up giving rise to the magazine's savior; Ms. Natalia Cohen.

Cohen had started as a reporter for the magazine back in 2006, and after four years of slaving away at articles, features, and columns, was selected to be a presenter and host for the paper's YouTube channel. Her blinding charisma and experience as a model helped her soften the magazine's staggering PR blows on the digital side, which was more than welcome for the struggling paper. Thanks to a mixture of her massive success in that field, constant employee shifting, a sudden resignation from the editor-in-chief at that time, and sheer luck, Natalia was flying through the ranks of editors in record time, culminating in her being crowned as editor-in-chief at just 37 years old.

Since then, the magazine had recovered immensely in credibility and sales, thanks to a series of solid decisions by Cohen and her board of advisors on the marketing and writing front. The blog and magazine were given an overhaul to shift towards a middleground between the Smock-era and post-Smock-era iterations of the Canary, both content-wise and design-wise. The copies became sleeker and more refined, the writing was put under stringent fact-checking and editing to make them waterproof, and reporting methods were tightened up in order to put more than just circumstantial evidence on the table. The front covers and big headlines were to still concern the lives of the rich, famous, and well-to-do within NASL, but the tone was to change from glamorous and envying to critical and harsh, putting the dirty laundry out in the open instead of hiding it under an artificial scent. The lifestyle, health, and relationship-oriented sections of the magazine were to be re-emphasized and directed back to serving as advice for the average individual rather than advice for the celebrity. In the end, it created a blend of celebrity gossip, personal advice, and down-to-earth political critique, creating a magazine that was both respectable and eye-catching. Throw in a stroke of timely and evidence-filled reports on a handful of major current events, in addition to a new acquisition deal under a different publishing company, and the rebound reached astronomical heights. Physical circulation and digital traffic have both seen massive gains, with circulation numbers steadily approaching one million copies per issue, putting it on track to be one of the largest gossip magazines in the United States by the end of the decade. Not bad for a magazine that was once treated as League News' toilet paper.

Population Size: Roughly 1000 employees across the paper's physical and digital mediums.
Army Size: N/A
Races That Are a Part of the Faction: Primarily humans, although the paper is widely touted as an equal-opportunity employer and has been known to employ those of other races, including (but not limited to) bakenekos, dhampirs, and even androids.

Additional Info:
  • The Canary's first major breakthrough in the Cohen era was the media response following the Battle of Isla Coronado and the dissolution of the San Diego Dolphins. Not only was The Canary the first to report on the incident, they were able to use an unmanned drone to capture aerial footage of the battlesite, as well as pictures of the late Osprey and Octave's graves. Despite receiving flack for what was seen as unethical journalism, the resulting viral craze was more than enough to put them back on the map.

  • While the public is not widely aware of this, the Canary has been known to utilize metahuman reporters, cameramen, etc. to serve as more effective gatherers of evidence and help coordinate more "news-worthy" scenes for the weekly paper issue. This has given them a significant advantage when it comes to speed, accuracy, and marketability.

Name: Chase Collins "Rush"
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Appearance:

Young Blood?: No; Guild Operative
Bio:
Prelude- As the world approached the twenty first century, the Guild was at a crossroads. The rising prowess of Lycan, the mass proliferation of meta humans, and the consolidation of villains brought a new perspective on the original charter. Hardliners within argued that the organization was losing sight from its original purpose, the ensuring and continual strive for liberty and prosperity around the world. The rapid militarization in the last few years was a detriment to this cause, only benefiting a select few within the group. More liberal members disagreed, the end of the Soviet Union and the mass commercialization demonstrated that their vision was all but guaranteed. This was the end of history, as long as the Guild continues it's rule over the status quo humanity's ascension was inevitable. The centralization of the Guild was not of concern but a necessity, with the rise of NGOs and private organizations from within their sphere of influence requiring more direct methods.

It was within this environment that three individuals arose with a bizarre proposition. The Guild thrived for eternal peace. Yet meta-humans were a disruption to these systems, power manifestation had no pattern; the abilities it guaranteed disruption and conflict regardless of intention. The old thinking was flawed: Peace was not an absence of war for war was becoming as arcane as the nation-state. Meta-humans disregarded traditional structures as they believe that they are above that. A childish philosophy but they had the ability to put it into practice. They hated regulation for in their internal biases, regardless of intention, they viewed it as the weak subjecting the strong. Many had already considered answers to this predicament. Lycan argued that they should all be destroyed but this was also flawed. Beyond the moral and ethical concerns, this solution just brought about more conflict; it created the dichotomy that normal humans were against meta-humans. No, instead they needed to create symbols and cause. Through these symbols a system of norms would be established that other meta-humans could look towards for guidance. Villainous groups always sought to create the perfect weapon through similar endeavors, what they wanted instead was the perfect person.

Behind the watchful gaze of the council, the three men initiated the Simulacrum Project.

Life- Through various means and donations from internal members of the organization, the group procured twenty children for the First Generation. Of that, twelve would prove viable. A few would be liquidated due to the intensity of the procedures, while others' went through a postpartum abortion due to their lack of activation. The survivors were groomed in secret, the overseers bided their time to demonstrate a finished project. How the project worked has remained a proprietary secret within the organization, the serum and the necessary list of procedures divided between several research groups and Front Companies. These twelve were initially envisioned as a proof of concept operating internally as operatives within the Guild hierarchy to facilitate more discreet mission assignments. While they had more lofty ambitions, the necessity for proof for the Council outweighed all other concerns. When the Council was prematurely alerted about the operation in secret most were livid about this breach; the ethics were beyond reprehensible but the results were...intriguing. Thousands of other organizations from the Wonder Foundation to Delta Pharmaceuticals had achieved limited success in manifesting powers but these children were a step beyond this. The work spoke for itself, if they smothered the project in the crib than other's would no doubt follow suit in the near future. Dissenting voices were drowned out in a see of pragmatism, those who continued to complain, silenced. The three men never received a reprimand for their actions, instead they were rewarded. Two would eventually gain seats on the council, the other the title of Sovereign.

The seventh son of the project was given the name of Virgil Armani, manifesting the power of energy infringement and nullification. As would become standard for their later iterations the project had a heavy emphasis on going beyond just brainless soldiers; they wanted a perfect model for their pseudo-Objectivist philosophy. It wasn't as simple as them having a power, no they needed to be better. A Demi-god that was perfect in all matters from appearance to competency. While this was initially hard on the prematurely aged child, he soon understood and accepted the Pedestal that he now must stand on. By the time the second generation was approved in 1999, the children were already reaching their formulative teenage years allowing for active combat missions. The children had developed a close familial bond to each other, often holding each other in high regard and were actively insular to even those within the organization. This would be alleviated with more active measures by their creators, yet this familial bond would eventually spread to the larger next generations; though this would not be as developed as the twelve. Virgil was a major proponent of this worldview, often being the first his siblings came too for advice and how to best resolve issues with others. His voice of reason often dampened the more rebellious thoughts of the first generation, allowing the creators a blueprint of sorts to prevent any defections as often seen other less successful competitors. Indoctrination is key and the children must view themselves as benefactors to the situation not slaves. Virgil's consolation was one element to this, their voice for possible dissent became an avenue of assurance; in turn, they rewarded him with his mission. What this mission was is often vague as has been noted by his psychological reviews but in effect, the child thrived on having a palpable end goal that he could actively work towards. He often simplified projects to their most base components, each step now achievable in his head. This allowed him to become particularly effective in small tactical missions but prevented his ascension to more strategic and managerial roles withing the organization which he was more than accepting of.

The well dressed man has been active since 2009 operating in numerous environments and different missions for the Organization. From the extraction of Lycan defector to the rescue of another Simulacrum from Pandora Lock's custody these missions require his brand of subterfuge and brute force. Able to navigate social situations just as well as environmental disasters, Virgil is one to never be far away from his home. Often visiting the other children in the project to be a necessary shoulder to cry on. Much like the rest of the organization perfection is a matter of the up most importance that must be achieved, but he also understands the gradual process that goes into reaching such level. He is forgiving when he needs to be, understanding of failures when the time calls for it. He is also brutally efficient and lacks any moral constraints when tasked with an objective. His emotions often switch on a dime, able to shut everything off when he needs to.

Powers:
  • [Kinetic Energy Infringement]: Any object with mass, that touches his body, Virgil can infringe with it's kinetic energy locking it in place and space. They do not fall, they do not go forward, they simple stay in place. Smaller or simplistic objects such as bullets and knives will freeze instantaneously, while those with more complicated parts will only lose the control of the part that was in direct contact. Objects locked in place can be moved by anyone as long as they have the strength to lift it's mass. This effect will continue as long as concentration is maintained.
  • [Kinetic Energy Enhancement]: Should he cancel the object's infringement, it will instantaneously re-exhibit it's prior forces. In addition to this, any energy he infringes can be harnessed and distributed elsewhere to other objects. With continuous contact with his body, more often than not his finger, he can build up the kinetic force held within objects to supercharge the energy within for more volatile attacks.

Limitations:
  • Self Affliction- Virgil can not control the kinetic energy of his body, thus he can not enhance his own physical attacks or freeze himself in place. If he were to fall he would need another object to freeze to lay under to stop.

Weaknesses:
  • [Elemental/Nonphysical force]: Forces with little to no mass can not be frozen in place and the attack will pierce his natural defenses. This also counts for attacks that are working in conjunction with a physical mass. Should a piece of molten lead be thrown at him he could freeze the liquid in place but the object will still burn his skin.

Name: Lucilla 'Lucy' Giannini
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Human (Second Generation Simulacrum)
Young Blood?: No; Guild Asset
Bio:
On June 21st 2000 a disinterested mother gave birth to a healthy baby girl only for her to go missing in a matter of hours. A police investigation into the incident found no leads, the case was dropped with a impromptu narrative focused on faulty doors, poor security practices, and a bipolar patient. With little care or longing to raise a child, the mother took this as a blessing in disguise, though she would never dare to verbally acknowledge that; she instead decided to drown out her 'sorrows' with a return to the night life. All loose ends were tied and the baby disappeared from civil society.

In actuality, the Guild had for months monitored the mother. Even before conception the mother was secretly and covertly alerted through genetic tampering, insuring the fetus developed along certain desired path. When the day of birth arrived, the baby had been ushered into an unmarked van before being shipped half away across the world to join her new siblings. Given the name of Lucilla Giannini, the child would be integrated into the Second Generation of the Simulacrum Project. Compared to the chaotic origins of the first, the second was much more uniform and sterile. With the full backing of the Council, one hundred and fifty newborn children were taken or replaced and brought back to their various facilities. Having groomed them since before their conception, all of them were tested and experimented in the hopes of activating their powers. With a fifty percent success rate, the remaining seventy five children would be crafted into the idols. Twenty Five would wash out, becoming the Donors instead. Said drop outs were tasked with more direct confrontations, edited to be more docile and subservient.

The other remaining fifty proved themselves worthy. Some such as the Red Princess would be selected to become a hero in her own right, other's like Prime Factor would be tasked with more mundane positions such as Goldman Sachs. All these children would be given the world. All except Lucilla. Lucilla never excelled much. Too quiet to be charismatic, too weak to be in the front-lines, and too hyperactive to be placed behind a desk. While her ability to see into the future was amazing, she never really excelled in pushing it forward; predictive analysis was too boring for her despite how much she struggled to pay attention. This soon caught the ire of her siblings who would often bully and torment the poor girl. The Red Princess was notorious for this, often verbally abusing the the poor girl through gas lighting and half truths. Lucilla became an outcast, no where to be placed and no where to go.

Due to internal disputes by the time she reached of age, most within the bureaucracy were hesitant to start over and turn her into a weapon. Members of the Narrative Division often came to her compound with a new 'value proposition', a way for her to re-brand herself and escape the development hell she existed in. A new aesthetic was chosen for her yearly hoping for something to fit. They eventually settled on the risque rebel girl, the girl dressed to fight and subvert authority who hate the boundaries she's pushing. That didn't go far but she still has the look. Despite the massive amount of suits and consultants that came and went, Lucilla has been left behind at the island. A failure compared to the rest of her family. Her failure to be more precise: being too mundane. This is her future, wasting away and watching the generations come and go. No one knows what to do with her, and so she just waits and hopes for something to come through the network for her. In the back of her head fearful that they will end post launch support.
Image

That is until she was placed in a new role by the side of Virgil, his new partner. Now she has left the island for the first time in her life, able to travel out of the castle to the land she will one day rule.
Powers:
  • [Environmental Pyschometry]: Whenever visual contact has been maintained Lucy can, at will, view her surroundings's past, present, and future. For example: if she was to stare at a leaky pipe, she can see exactly when it began leaking, it's current state, and how and when it will be fixed. As long as she has her gaze, she can experience it's associated senses as well. This effect diminishes when she looks away and returns when she looks back.
  • [Limited Precognition]: This psychometry allows Lucy to have a limited form of precognition, able to watch changes within the environment to make educated guesses on how to react and be in a more advantageous position.
  • [Projection] If the participant is willing, she can project the premonition directly into their vision. She retains full control over what they see, and they do not receive the entirety of other sensations that she can experience. This is not telepathy, those without eyes can have the image projected.

Limitations:
  • Organic Beings- The greatest limitation of Lucy's is that she can not view the organic being that has caused the disruptions and changes she views. While she can observe the effects, they do not appear in her vision and she can easily misinterpret what she sees based on her own failings or limited time. This limitation does not apply to machines or robots, who appear normally within her gaze. Each action they will and can take are not bound by this limits.
  • Initiation Process- She can not skip to specific moments in the timeline, she instead must rewind or fast forward from the present.
  • Interference- Once she has interfered or interacted with the environment, the vision is no longer fated. The farther she goes, the greater the butterfly effect is. While this is not a significant weakness when she is observing small amounts of time during encounters, her long term predictions can become nothing more than educated guesses after a certain point.

Weaknesses:
  • [Frail Body]: With little in the way of strength, durability, or speed she has little she can do to actually capitalize on what she sees in a fight. This forces her into a more investigative and support role with a heavy reliance on a more direct partner. Though her reaction speed is the only item that excels compared to most, this is also reliant on her maintaining concentration of all the simultaneous events going on in her head.

Young Blood?: No
Bio:
Benjamin Butler was born in the Condemned district and was raised in an orphanage alongside his younger brother Matthew. To the casual observer the orphanage had nothing unusual about it. But The man who ran it used the endless supply of juveniles in his care to run his own small time scams usually in the form of pick pocketing and petty theft. Eventually it evolved into larger crimes using the older kids to push drug sales to fraud fundraisers. Benjamin however refused to allow Matthew to take part in these and when he was found out he took more than a few beatings for it. But not long after Benjamin would join a real gang at 17. At first the gang was just a means to an end of making money to support himself and his brother but a lot of them became a sort of family for him. It was also during his teen years that he discovered his super power and while he initially believed his power as a mute inducer was lame his superior in the gang saw potential and promoted him to a junior enforcer. And from there he was given special training(Of the best a street gang could give) and the best weapons and armor they could afford. Which were pretty good. His pay also increased dramatically and he was finally able to put Matthew into one of the best schools in San Diego, Thomson High.

As his rank, pay and station increased so did his duties and when he was 20 he was given a job different than the usual bodyguard or enforcer duties he was used to. He was tasked with eliminating the boss of a rival gang. A full assassination job. The target, family, everyone. He broke into the target's home and successfully killed him, but allowed his family to leave town. After he returned and his gang 'celebrated' his job well done he went home and vomited over it, becoming physically sick after killing his first man. In the next couple of years he only had a few jobs resembling that and while he stopped getting sick after it was still nothing he took pleasure in. Simply accepting it was part of his job in life. However life was about to tell him to reconsider his line of work as the Outriders rose to prominence recently. For the first time fearing for his life he quit the gang as he saw the writing on the wall. The Outriders did wipe most of the gang out not long after, but not before the gang made an attempt on Matthew's life in retaliation for his leaving. Luckily Matthew survived but was in the hospital for weeks and Benjamin who had planned on retaliating against the gang no longer had to after the ORs did the job for him.

So after Matt recovered Ben now out of work got a job as a bouncer in a night club. During this time Benjamin grew to somewhat admire the ORs. While he disagreed with how extreme the methods were in most cases he did not deny the results. As while they were active they caused significant damage to several of the prominent gangs in SD and for a brief time it seemed to be working in their side of SD. Until they vanished one day and slowly the status quo returned. Now with a new wave in crime in the Condemned district of San Diego due to a power vacuum Benjamin has decided to assume vigilante work himself.
Powers: Sound Nullification, Benjamin has the ability to nullify all sound in one of two distinct ways
Limitations: Benjamin can only nullify sound in two ways each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The first is with eye contact this is not hindered by glasses/masks or anything else but the nullification only stays in effect for 30 seconds after eye contact is made. And cannot be reset on the same target for a half hour. The second is by activating a sound nullification field around himself 30 feet in diameter. But this includes himself and he cannot hear anything outside the field so he could in be taken by surprise himself if he is not aware of his surroundings. The Bane drug despite providing a significant boost to his physical stats is temporary and after it wears off it hits Benjamin with a 'crash period' as his body recovers from the effects of the drug. Leaving him in a weakened state for a time after use and the more Bane he uses in brief period the worse the effects later.

Likes: His brother, the Young Bloods, The Outriders, Hot Dogs
Dislikes: Country Music

Equipment: Two 9mm pistols, two reinforced katana blades, an armored mask/body armor and a supply of the 'Bane' drug, a variant of the former Blood drug as an ace card

Name: Richard Deacon, once known as Shredder
Age: 67
Gender: M
Race: Human
Appearance:
Young Blood?: Counselor
Bio: Richard Deacon was once the emotional hero of rock! He started just before the superhero business really took off. However, before long, he felt out of place, as he did everything he could to avoid a fight when he brought someone in. Still, he carried on.

Years and many scars later, Richard realized he simply could not continue alone. So, he tried to join a team. Even then, it just didn't feel right. Eventually, he decided to give up the life of a hero. By this time he had graduated with a degree in psychology, found a wife, and had kids. Hero work simply didn't work anymore.

However, this didn't mean that Richard Deacon would leave the community. No, he found a much better thing for him to do. Psychology for heroes. As an ex-hero himself and a member of the NASL, secret identities rarely became a major issue, and he had direct experience with many of the problems that come about from hero work. His new career quickly took off, with his relaxed demeanor and calming abilities helping him aid even the most closed off people.

Still, there were some... Troublesome cases, the most notable of which was a young telepath early on. She never truly opened up to him, and left within the week, but he never quite forgot the mental scars she truly had. In a way, she was why he made sure to take on the hardest challenges he could, to make up for his failure long ago. Thus, when Naja offered him a position as the personal therapist for the teen team the Young Bloods, he just about jumped at the offer.

Powers:
  • [Musical emotion manipulation]: By using his own music (or recordings of it) he can cause different emotions.
Heavy music causes fear, upbeat music causes giddiness, soft music causes calm, and waltzes and ballads cause fatigue.
  • [Small random magic]: nothing more than party tricks. He focused on musical magic and really only excelled at emotions.

Limitations (Reasons why your char can’t end the universe):
  • No combat magic
  • 67 years old and retired

Weaknesses :
  • [67]: Years of working as a superhero and simply living have taken their toll. He's a little slower, little weaker, and not as ready for a fight
  • [Pacifist]: Even before retiring he aimed for solutions that has no deaths or even harm to people

Likes: Music of all forms, rainy days, board games
Dislikes: Chess, Football, strong smells
