Where were you on 9-11-2001?

With the 19th anniversary of 9/11 around the corner, I would like to ask people who remember a question. Where were you at when the the first plane hit that fateful morning?

My answer would that I was in 3rd grade at school when I noticed my teacher act weirdly and whispering to other teachers. I really didn't find out what happened until my parents told me what happened after I had got home from school.

I was still asleep when my Mother came in and said the World Trade Centre had been bombed. At first, I thought nothing of it since I remembered the '93 bombing. A couple of minutes later, I was woken up again when she said it was on fire. So I looked on the TV, and there the twin towers were, burning like candles, still about an hour away from the first collapse and sooner before the Pentagon was hit.

I was in the Army, Fort Benning, GA, Sand Hill. ITB, 30th AG bat. [Reception), packing my bags to transfer to the remedial fitness unit. Guys started coming back having glanced at the TV for a second... we thought it was half-assed WW3.

I was in Beijing, drinking beer with friends in a paddle boat shaped like a duck on a lake, I received an SMS from a friend in HK that said a single seater plane had crashed into the WTC, then more and more came in and we tried to paddle as fast as we could but paddle boats skip the water if you paddle too fast.. anyway, we got to shore and raced to a friends house who had CNN and watched in horror..

It was the first real mass mobile phone event, much like Kennedy was TV and the Titanic was telegraph.

I have a fuzzy memory of being in the living room in my grandmothers house playing with toys. I think I only remember this because my birthday was coming up and I was supper excited. Its really fuzzy but I remember my mom and grandma crying when the second plane hit than being told to go upstairs.

7 months in my mother's womb. An uncle of mine was in one of the towers prior to the attacks, though. He exited the building about 15 minutes before the first plane struck the towers. He was very fortunate.

This question is a bit tired and I think it can almost be put to rest. But I was 13 years of age in 6th grade. I recall that the weather was clear blue skies for most of the entire US (which included my location). It was a tuesday morning and school ended early for me, returned home at 10 or 11 AM.

The state of the internet was far more primitive than today and on TV it was primarily news on every channel. I'm far more informed and aware now of the outside world than back then.

I was at home doing my homework one evening when I saw the towers burning on TV. I didn't see the planes smash into them or watch them collapse. The very next day during assembly, my school held a minute's silence to honor those who lost their lives. This was the crucial event that marked my political awakening as a teenager. The rest is history.

The attacks happened before dawn for me. I was asleep in a park. I needed a shower before work so I went into a swim center, and the WTC attacks were on the TV. I couldn't understand why everyone there was watching what I assumed was a teaser for an upcoming action movie. I didn't realize it happened in real life until after a swim and a shower. Well I'm not very alert first thing in the morning.

I was really young and all it was to me was foreign news from a foreign land that I knew little about aside from movies. I remember scary pictures on the ZBC and that's about it. I didn't even realise how important this was for Americans until I was living in the states nearly a decade later.

I was 9. They didn't tell us about it at school, I learned about it from my mom when she picked me up. I watched the news for a few minutes and then left to my room to play video games. Later a friend called me and said there are going to be more attacks tomorrow, and I told my parents and they said that probably won't happen.

At some Mom's Day Out program at the local United Methodist Church. Parents used to dump me there when they didn't want me at home. I remember nothing, but if I had to guess I was probably pissed that my afternoon cartoons on the local PBS station were overtaken by news coverage.
