The Festival of Holy Light III (OOC Sign Ups)

Hello hello hello it's time for the third Festival of Holy Light a religious and festive celebration in the AHSCA Islands. The celebration goes up on September 3/4.

ABOUT:

The Festival of Holy Light is an annual widespread celebration across the islands to mark the change of seasons. As we exit the dry season into the wet monsoonal season, farmers gather their crops, fisherman haul in and dock and ordinary citizens give praise the the Holy Mother for guiding them through another growing season and prepare for the deluge. Every village and island has their own way of celebrating from mass services to nightly festivals. So what will you do? Take in the local sights, enjoy our beautiful beaches, enrich in the culture, gawk at our silly old world ways, do something maybe nefarious? Choices will be yours and yours alone.

Just remember such an event has plenty of our police on the beat so don't go too crazy. This is non-diplomatic so ideally send an average person or two or three even! If you send someone high up, best they keep a low profile while they enjoy their "vacation." If it starts getting overrun with government suits I'll put a cap on it. I'll be sending one or two from my other nation so I'm not against it.

All tech and species are welcome but as such all techs will be welcome but keep in mind I RP is an underdeveloped MT nation that also happens to have fantasy races in them. Don't ask me where you're gonna park your spaceship and I won't try to barter your rail guns for my measly tech. You are also free to arrive, stay at and visit any island at any time during the festival. Also as many have RPed COVID in their nation, don't be concerned for that in this thread assume it's all safe and all healthy and be fine.

On Weapons: The UIS allows the concealed carry of small firearms and personal knives. Please have your weapons inspected and reported at the port of entry you arrive at. If you are carrying weapons on your person and approached or detained by police, let them know of your concealed carry. Under no circumstances can assault rifles or fully automatic weaponry be brought in. If you have these, you will be asked to surrender these until you depart the UIS.

Religion: This is a religious festival of AHSCA's own indigenous folk faith. That said any person of any denomination is welcome to participate in the events or visit religious sights, etc. Christians make up less than 1%.

On Weather/Climate: AHSCA is a tropical monsoonal climate thus is very wet with frequent thundershowers. The islands are also notably subject to hurricanes even as late as this point when the season is winding down. The United Island Office of Meteorology has been watching conditions and according to the latest data, the annual trade winds have already shifted thus making significant development of tropical cyclones unlikely. Come festival time AHSCA will be sitting between two stalled weather fronts, a low pressure system off to the west and a high pressure ridge off to the east which should make for a pleasant, albeit a bit breezy stay. and The heavy monsoonal moisture expected to move in by the festival end.

Public Nudity: AHSCA is generally pretty relaxed with laws in regards to clothing but you may still be asked to remain in clothing or swim attire in certain areas or businesses. Be of note more out of the way villages do often have enforced public nudity. Communal bathing is common, those inns that only have communal bathing facilities will be very busy and you may be asked to share with other patrons including mixed bathing. Check with management for concerns.

On Crime: AHSCA is generally a very safe place with a well organized police force. Corruption is considerably low for a nation of our status but that said common sense goes a long way and always be careful. See something, say something.

on LGBT rights: AHSCA has very open LGBT rights.

on recreational drug use: Drugs such as marijuana, alcohol, tobacco are legal with minimal restriction. Most recreational drug use is decriminalized for personal use but the selling, distributing or manufacturing of synthetic drugs is PROHIBITED BY LAW. The use of drug apparatus that may pose a public health hazard (e.g. needles) is also prohibited. Do note, it is also prohibited to operate any kind of marine craft while under the influence.

Health and Sanitation: AHSCA is generally very clean with a focus on public health and good hygiene. That said it's important to be mindful of your health as access to higher quality medical care isn't readily available. Most clinics are very small and ran by one or two doctors and assistants or trained nurses. Certain emergency surgeries can be practiced in extreme circumstances (e.g. Appendectomy). Water is fresh and clean as its drawn from deep freshwater wells dug in the post-war recovery and partly from desalination. Note that more remote villages may have far more limited accommodations.

Other: Prostitution is legal only at sanctioned brothels it is in your best interest not to engage with any street prostitution for your safety and their own. Recreational marijuana is legal. Most drug consumption is generally de-criminalized but the selling, distributing and improper disposal is strictly prohibited.

BY SEA: Lacking any real airport facilities at present the most common way is by sea (unless you are able to materialize an interdenominational portal). Our ships do crisscross the globe so it's likely you'll be able to make way by sea travel through any pleasure cruiser or transoceanic vessel.

BY AIR: Though we lack a public airport, we do allow diplomatic and military flights to land at our Embassy Isle. We also can accommodate an emergency landing by a civil aircraft. We also can allow small water compatible seaplanes.

You won't find any 5-star resorts here but we have plenty to offer the traveler who is looking for something a little different. You may arrive at any island of your choosing and may travel freely between them.

INNS: Because tourism on the islands has increased the need for facilities to accommodate them have as well. Several local Inns ran by locals are welcoming and have bedrooms to give. On Aurora island, The Kitan is a popular hot spring inn with very good rates and an adjoining restaurant. With the festival's increased popularity, some smaller hostels have also cropped up, some of these are single sex and others are mixed.

WITH LOCALS: Maybe some natives are willing to take you in? We are a very hospitable people, Corona especially known for their kindness and warmness.

CAMPING: A great natural environment provides great seclusion. Equipment may be purchased or carried in.

TEMPLES/SHRINES: Given this is a religious celebration are religious temples and shrines. Our clergy are also welcoming to guests who need a place to stay. It's not expected to give anything in return but it is good manners to give a little donation or just a small bit of work for your room and food.

SHIPS: If you arrived via cruise ship local or international and the ship is planning to be in dock or coastal you can stay aboard. Keep in mind you may still be subject to inspection every time you come ashore so best keep much of your baggage behind.

Now all that pesky OOC stuff:

1. Criminal activities, murder, violence etc must be cleared with a player and/or myself before hand. Drunken brawls can happen but expect sometime in the pokey. If you commit a criminal offense so heinous, you may be shipped off to our Black Island prison without a proper trial! And then you'll have to fill out a mountain of paperwork to get extradition and nobody wants more bureaucracy!

2. Do work to put effort in your posts. I don't expect perfection and English isn't everyone's first language, some of us may even have dyslexia (like me!) so do your best show that you put effort and you'll be fine.

3. Magic is okay. This is a festival to celebrate a couple of Goddesses so nothing says your divinity can't show up and mingle with my own. Gimme a heads up if you want to do that.

4. Obviously no meta-gaming.

5. No large elaborate security details. If your character requires some kind of bodyguard then it should be simply ONE. Remember the weapons policy. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS!

6. Please limit characters who are of nobility, government, etc. I'm more out to see the ordinary tourist more than trying to broach anything diplomatically.

7. RP Samples are required but I will accept puppet samples or PiffleNet samples.

8. I did say prostitution is legal BUT should you want to engage in such activity remember that it must be PG-13!

9. All NPCs from AHSCA and Kuronami are mine to control.

10. Applications should be finished off with "Of Light and Dark"

It's fine if you wish to send a few off duty politicians. If you want them to stay with a native friend, that'd be fine BUT I'm going to say no to giving absolute control of them. I'll give you some leeway here and there but ultimately I should be the one to do so. I would like to know what you have in mind because I am interested.

Finally it's here! Glad that the Festival is back
Just to tell you AHSCA, this year, there will be a lot of Astarian tourists coming, due to the simple fact that since the Islas Malditas are being developed at a fast pace south of the UIS, a lot of people are working on it, and so a lot chose to take some days off for the Festival. Our ambassador who visited last year may have helped to spread the word.
Anyway, you can expect around between five and six thousand Astarians who'll be visiting. But since I can't obviously play that amount of characters, I'll only play six. Four civilians, two military.

Just to note: when I mention "Malditas 03", "Malditas 04", it refers to the island's number in the Malditas archipelago. Astarian authorities have yet to name each of the twelve Islands.

Finally it's here! Glad that the Festival is back
Just to tell you AHSCA, this year, there will be a lot of Astarian tourists coming, due to the simple fact that since the Islas Malditas are being developed at a fast pace south of the UIS, a lot of people are working on it, and so a lot chose to take some days off for the Festival. Our ambassador who visited last year may have helped to spread the word.
Anyway, you can expect around between five and six thousand Astarians who'll be visiting. But since I can't obviously play that amount of characters, I'll only play six. Four civilians, two military.

Just to note: when I mention "Malditas 03", "Malditas 04", it refers to the island's number in the Malditas archipelago. Astarian authorities have yet to name each of the twelve Islands.
