Original Letter from Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura
Image
I am hungry!
“To the Office of the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ”

“Recently I have been hearing about all sorts of delicious foods in other countries, particularly in the way of tea and pastries. For example, although I am quite fond of our Federation's Darjeeling and Pu'Er teas, and our patisseries make the most delectable canele and macarons I have tasted, one still wonders what sorts of delights await outside our nation's borders. I therefore command you to establish relations with foreign nations which are willing to offer their national tea or dessert, in hopes of bringing more delights to my taste buds.”

- Chairwoman of the Federation, Secretary General of the United Front, Supreme Leader of the People's Armed Forces Oomiya Sakura
-社会主義連邦政府主席、統一戦線総書記、人民軍隊最高指導者 大宮咲来

Marmalade Roll

Postby Allenstadt » Thu Aug 27, 2020 7:50 pm

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? Allenstadtian Marmalade Roll
What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? 3.2 dreichsmarks or 9.50 standards/unit
What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else? It is a deliciously flaky pastry with just the right amount of pure marmalade. Some sellers will try to deceive you by using ordinary puff pastry and fake marmalade with other citrus fruits, but our government can guarantee you will receive only the best. What is also good about these rolls is they can stay as fresh for up to 3 days after baking
Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation: The preparation of the pastry is known as the 'process of a thousand layers', since our pastry has been exquisitely made in a secret process taking over 12 hours to get the correct lightness, chewiness, and flaky layers. This process is usually mechanized now, though you can get hand-made ones (which are only slightly better) at 48.9 dreichsmarks/unit
The marmalade is made my using oranges which have been picked less than three hour ago, which are juiced. Only oranges with no additives are used.
The end result looks like a danish, but tastes much better than that. best eaten warm, or reheated in an over at 150 C.

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? Allenstadtian Black Tea
What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? 785.8 Dreichsmarks/2332.84 Standards/unit (tea bag)
What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else? This tea is grown in the Karkoran Mountains in Far South Allenstadt, the only place in which they can grow in that acidic soil. This tea has to be hand grown carefully, so each farmer usually only has 10-15 tea bushes to cultivate. This is the reason for their large price. These tea bags are world-renowned for their flavor, and usually very few are exported.
However, due to an bumper harvest this year, the price decreased by ~200 dreichsmarks, and began to stockpile tea bags for exportation.
Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation: The tea bag is to be boiled in water between 65 and 70 degrees, and should be tasted continuously until the flavor seems correct. Then it must be poured into cups (1 tea bag gives 4 cups) and a 1/8 teaspoon of sugar should be stirred into each cup thoroughly. Their will be some leftover tea matter at the bottom of the kettle. The tea should be allowed to cool for 5 minutes before being drunk, usually with a slice of pound cake.

Reply to the The Generous Roots of Yuletide Yggdrasil

Thank you for your trade offer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs found this a most interesting dish, and offered it to the Chairwoman herself. Although she did not seem fond of it, the food has well received by parents of schoolchildren who need to be convinced to eat more vegetables. It appears that many children are delighted by the caramelized exterior, and completely forget they are eating something with vitamins. For this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extends warm thanks to the The Generous Roots of Yuletide Yggdrasil

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

Reply to the The Federal Republic of Allenstadt regarding 'Allenstadtian Marmalade Roll'

Thank you for your trade offer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was impressed by the wonderful aroma and shape of this pastry, and offered it to the Chairwoman herself. Judging from her eyes lighting up, we are confident that she enjoyed this very much. In fact, she even asked for another month's supply of it. Chairwoman Oomiya is far from the only one in our Federation to enjoy your pastry. It has proved extremely popular among citizens who have tried it as well. We would be delighted to start a regular trade for this 'Marmalade Roll'

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

Reply to the The Federal Republic of Allenstadt regarding 'Allenstadtian Black Tea'

Thank you for your trade offer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepared the 'Allestadtian Black Tea' in accordance to the instructions. We were pleasantly surprised to find the smell was different from our own tea crops, yet incredibly inviting. After giving it to Chairwoman Oomiya, she was very happy to drink it during her usual afternoon tea. However, since she drank it with her usual 5 spoonfuls of sugar, we wonder if it might have gone to waste. Nevertheless, we extend our thanks for bringing Chairwoman Oomiya another type of tea to drink.

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

What is the name of the tea you are offering for trade? Patiniv-Kvamatikas Ti (When translated from Baltika literally means “Sweet-Flavorful Tea”)
What is the cost of the tea you are offering for trade? 24.5 Tyrs per Unit (Tea Bag)
What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else?
Patiniv-Kvamatikas Ti is a rich tea blend that has been used among the wealthy in Zedeshia for countless years. This blend is made by combining two different types of tea. One is a very flavorful and dry type of black tea, carefully grown in some regions of Southern Zedesh. The other is a type of mint tea, made using an extremely strong and sweet type of mint that can only be grown along the many oasis’s that can be found on the planet of Ranak. Both of these teas are then carefully roasted over an open pine fire and mixed together, creating a drink with an extremely unique flavor.
Please give more details about the cooking process or method of preparation.
The tea bag is to be boiled in water at approximately 70 degrees, and should be checked regularly. This process should continue for about thirty to forty five minutes. When this amount of time passes, the tea should then be poured into cups (1 tea bag gives about 6 cups), and approximately 1/4 of a tablespoon of sugar should be added to each cup. A small amount of honey may also be added to the tea, though this is not exactly necessary. After this is done, some time should be given for the tea to cool before it is drunk.

Per request of Frau Sato Hitomi, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Socialist Federation of Sanghyeok

Dear colleague, we've received your request and we hope Chairwoman Oomiya will find our contribution to her quest for new delicacies satisfactory. We decided to provide you with a sample of both a typical tea and a typical pastry from the Prut Meritocracy. The sample is intended for 24 persons (24 cups, 24 pieces of pastry). Hopefully we've managed to brighten the day at offices of Sanghyeok foreign ministry and the chairwoman's office. Enjoy.

Best regards,

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade?

Tea: Aschenalpiner Goldmelissenblütentee ("Ash Alps Oswego Tea")

Pastry: Bienenstich ("Bee sting")

What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade?

Depending on weight in grams and packaging, Goldmelissenblütentee varies from approximately 2 USD to 10 USD. A piece of "Bienenstich" is usually sold for an estimated 7 USD to 10 USD.

What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else?

While the name might appear intimidating in length, and Oswego teas aren't necessarily unique to the Prut Meritocracy, the Goldmelissenblütentee from the Aschenalpen region (Ash Alps region) of the PM is made from endemic herbs, cultivated and harvested in the sunny and wild eastern mountains and is therefore of a proven terroir. The Goldmelisse from this region is notable for it's medicinal potency and citrusy nuanced taste. The tea itself uses the Goldmelisse as a base and is carefully blended with various alpine herbs—the end result is a rather refreshing, agreeable, and flowery tea.

A Bienenstich is specialty from Lieblich, made of sweat yeast dough, a hint of butter, vanilla custard, and honey-glazed caramelised almonds. The name comes from a historic incident; it was created to celebrate two bakers successfully driving off raiders by flinging bee hives at them. The dessert itself is rather wholesome, luscious, and invigorating.

Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation

Goldmelissenblütentee is made like most herbal teas by pouring piping hot water in a cup with a teabag and leaving it so for about 8 minutes. The cup is ready when one can clearly notice the citrusy scent in the air. The teabag is removed and disposed. Traditionally one or two teaspoons of honey is added while it still hot. Younger folks today tend to prefer one teaspoon of stevia instead of honey, or they add one teaspoon each. Regardless, the tea should be consumed about 5 minutes after that. The tea is still palatable when it's cold, however the medicinal properties (antiseptic, carminative, helps with PMS) are more potent when it's freshly made and consumed warm.

Bienenstich is a creamy savory cake, baked not unlike any other similar cake. It's easy to find a variety of recipes for it online. The Lieblich-variant is considered the standard. One should be warned that a Bienenstich's aroma can be very powerful and intoxicating, a strong scent of butter and honey and a beautiful and inviting glaze of caramelised almonds. Still resist the temptation, one should let the cake completely cool before cutting into it. It is not very sweet, and the texture is quite like a typical pastry—creamy and savory. The glaze gives it its sweetness. Like typical pastires it is best served with sweet tea or mild coffee.

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade?

Western Cake (Pasteleckaija Szapadije)

What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade?

5 Federalisk per whole cake which is roughly 2.50 Standard Units or 50 Federalisk/25 Standard Units for a box of ten.

What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else?

Western Cake is a uniquely Monsonian pastery created by Andrey Dupont in 1886 to celebrate the completion of the railroad link between Toronto in Canada and Vancouver in Monsone. The cake was designed to reflect what was a golden age in Monsone, hence it was designed to be a mix of different pastry styles from across Asia and the Pacific with influences from French and English cuisine. Despite it being labled a cake, the actual pastry is more akin to a Portugese custard tart.

The uniqueness of the pastry is the fact that there is only one correct way to elabroate the cakes, and the cakes may only be called Western Cakes if they where elaborated in Vancouver. While the cakes can be seen frequently across Monsone, they are rare to find abroad and when they are available are often called Monsonian Railroad Cakes, and do not taste the same thanks to added preservatives to extend the cake's shelf-life. However, the only version worth being sent is the original version of the cakes elaborated at the original factory in Vancouver (it is those cakes which have been sent and not the less impressive knock-offs).

Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation:

The cake itself comprises of a rich shortbread crust elaborated with both butter and pork lard as well as beer with a jam filling made out of apples, cherries, and Asian pears. The pastry is topped with a sweet red bean Zefir that is joined to the pastry with a thin coat of Monsonian wildflower honey.

The process of elaboration is very simple, the crust takes a total of one whole day to elaborate with most of the time being dedicated to letting the dough set for at the minimum 10 to 12 hours in a warm spot. After that, the dough is cut into balls, shaped to fit the baking molds, filled with the jam and then put into a 180 C until the jam is boiling and the crust is golden brown. The pastries are then removed and left to sit for two days in a 90 C room. In the meantime, the Zefir is prepared and left to set for two days. At the end of those two days, the pastries are removed and cooled to room temperature. At this point, the thin layer of honey is coated onto the bottom of the Zefir and the Zefir is then placed ontop of the pastry.

Once complete, the cakes must kept at room temperature and never reheated or refrigerated as to preserve the integrity of the Zefir and the pastry itself. For five days, the cakes will be at their prime, after which time they will unfortuantely have gone bad.

We as Pyganians are very proud of our kunāfa and see it as superior to all others. In reality, it is exactly the same as the kanafeh that can be found in the Arab world.

Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation

Thank you for your trade offer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a sample of "Pasteleckaija Szapadije" to Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura to eat. "Pasteleckaija Szapadije" was warmly welcomed by Chairwoman Oomiya, who has always had a fondness for custard-based pastries. We followed the instructions to keep them at the room temperature, and the shell was still intact when they were eaten. Chairwoman Oomiya expressed her delight in this, and seems to enjoy it very much.

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

Egg tart! This I know.
“To the Office of the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ”

“Thank you for your effort in bringing this new pastry to me. 'Pasteleckaija Szapadije', it is called? I have always enjoyed egg tarts and Portuguese custard tart very much, and this one is no different. The flavor is more full than some tarts I had before, but it is nicely balanced by the soft flaky crust. I was able to eat the entire box in just a few minutes! ”

Thank you for your trade offer. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave a sample of "Kunafa" to Chairwoman Oomiya to try out. The scent is very pleasing, and there was a satisfying sound when cut. Chairwoman Oomiya was very happy to eat it, although it might be a bit messy. Nevertheless, we think Chairwoman Oomiya enjoyed it enough to continue buying more of it.

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

A cheesy baklava!
“To the Office of the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ”

“Thank you for your effort in bringing this new pastry to me. 'Kunafa', it is called? The exterior reminded me a bit of baklava, which I know. However, this is a whole new experience! The addition of cheese makes this sweet yet salty, a very addictive combination! It is times like this that make me happy our nation has a wide reach and relations with many foreign cultures and countries. ”

Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

We are still accepting offers until 20 September. The best entry by then will receive one Elite-level card of under value 10 of their choosing. I have no idea what that means, but....Chairwoman Oomiya told me to say it.

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? Käger-tassau pastries, which translates into English as "bear's paw".
What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? It would be rude to charge money for a diplomatic gift, so this sample is complimentary. However, the average Brettain bakery generally sells them for 6 crowns apiece, which is approximately $4.50 USD. That might seem a little steep, but they're fairly rich and quite generously sized.
What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else? The basic recipe is fairly foolproof, they're not hard to make, and they're a seasonal treat in the fall (though you can usually buy them year-round).
Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation
The two outer layers are shaped like pentagons with round corners at the wide end and consist of a rich, nutty dough that is somewhat crumbly and approximately the consistency of a firmer shortcake. The filling is generally some combination of fruit and nuts, though there are hundreds of variations out there. As a representative sampling, we have included the following fillings:
the traditional heavily spiced apples,
chocolate cream,
lavender-infused lemon filling,
and blueberries with sweet cheese. Once layered, the pastry has small triangles cut out of the wider part so that the whole affair somewhat resembles a bear's footpad, hence the name. After baking, the top is sprinkled with sugar or sea salt depending on whether the chosen filling is sweet or savory, and they are best served warm alongside hot tea, cocoa or coffee. On behalf of His Majesty the Emperor, I wish you pleasant eating.

Cordially yours,
Adalrich Morvan, Minister of Foreign Affairs

What is the name of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? Pineapple Bun
What is the cost of the tea/patisserie you are offering for trade? N$1 (USD$0.80) to N$5 (USD$4.00) per bun, depending on bakery. As a diplomatic gift, however, we are willing to send some for free for her sampling.
What is special about this delicacy that cannot be found anywhere else?
While the recipe is easy to make, it is not made anywhere else. It is considered one of the regional delicacies, and an inseparable part of the Nacradian culture.
Please offer more details about the cooking process or method of preparation
The "Pineapple Bun" does not actually contain pineapple. It is rather a plain bun with a crackery top that resembles the outside of a pineapple. It is mildly sweet, and the crust is fragrant and crusty, however the inside is somewhat soft. When served in an authentic Portsville style restaurants, it is usually sliced open with a slab of butter between the slices, served warm with a cup of coffee, or more commonly, milk tea. Recognised as an intangible cultural heritage, the bun-and-milk-tea combination appeals to people near and far.
We have found a recipe online for the information of Sanghyeok.
There is also a Wikipedia article about this bun

Thank you for your trade offer. Chairwoman Oomiya was most pleased to see the "Käger-tassau", and remarked that she can certainly understand the appeal of such a pastry in the fall time. We served it with some warm tea, as you have suggested, and the reaction was very positive. We are interested in continuing this trade in the long-term, and accept the trade offer.

We hope to continue this wonderful trading of tea and patisserie.

Apple! Chocolate! Lemon! Blueberry! Happy!

“Thank you for your effort in bringing this new food to me. 'Käger-tassau', is it? The name is once again one I cannot pronounce, but I do not deny the wonderful flavour. The pastry is quite soft, and very rich and moist. Furthermore, the various fillings are all incredibly satisfying; they are sweet but not too sweet, and filled with the flavour of autumn-harvest from another realm. Eating this with Darjeeling is indeed a custom I must begin at once. I would like this for my daily tea-time from now on!
