Sansara: Out of Our Element (OOC/Worldbuilding)

Postby Nuridia » Thu Aug 20, 2020 4:12 pm

World Map:
Image

Sansara is a huge, vastly varied continent...from the marauding Northern barbarian tribes that call the vast Pale Wastes their home, led by their warrior chief-kings to the southern Jeornelands where many of the dark-skinned Jeorne people reside, producing their famous artisan works in their desert homelands and ruled over by their Sultana, who doubles as a High Priestess and every race that walks, crawls, flies and swims in between. The turbulent seas that cradle this place are home to the mysterious and enigmatic Mer, who will sometimes save your ship if it sinks or lure you to their deaths with their enchanting voices, depends on trade agreements and whatever mood they’re in. The deep, dark forests of the central-lands are where the Veil, the layer created by the Supreme Being separating the visible from the invisible is thinnest. Many portals to the land of Faerie are in these woods that have become the fey race’s foothold on the continent, and so travelers are always warned to be on their guard there.

The majority of the continent worship Irune, the Supreme Being...but different subsets of that religion have formed depending on whatever Aspect that Irune has taken in that race’s particular prophet. One thing remains consistent, every Irune-worshipper believes the Angels, who live in sky-cities far beyond the clouds above Sansara are holy beings, divine messengers that were created by Irune themselves to guard and protect the world from evil. And that the demons who live beneath the earth, making their homes in the Elemental Plane of Fire near the core of the planet are wicked, vicious creatures who plan to destroy the world and disrupt the Supreme Being’s will...but of course, things are never so cut and dry as that.

When the world was still young, Irune created the five main races as well as the several other species that reside here...at least that’s what the usual creation story says, each having a role in maintaining the balance and residing over a particular element of nature. To keep either race from becoming too powerful, the Supreme Being took the forces of nature and divided it into five parts, giving one piece to the ruler of each race in order to maintain balance. For the angels, guardians and protectors of the earth and enforcers of Their will, Irune gave them the Hurricane Blade, a holy sword that could control the winds and the air as well as conjure up mighty displays of thunder and lightning. To the Mer, their ruler received the Wavebreaker, a trident allowing them dominion over all the waters and rainstorms of the world. The demons received the Staff of Horns, a font of powerful magic which would serve to tame and fan the flames, in the hands of the very powerful it could control volcanoes. The humans and fairies received the Amulet of Gaia and the Hawthorn’s Eye respectively. The Amulet of Gaia was granted to Amalia the Strange, the first queen to unite the warring human tribes of the central steppes into one kingdom, and its power over the earth would ensure that her people would never go hungry and that their farmers’ harvest would be bountiful. Finally the Hawthorn’s Eye was granted to the ruler of the Fae, a green jewel that was later set inside an antlered crown. This jewel granted power over the fifth element, Aether...the element of balance and life, this was the clear essence that flowed throughout the world and bound the energies of the world together, keeping all elements balanced and in check. Aether, being the element of invisibility allowed the Eye to grant invisibility to both its wearer and whatever they focus their energy on.

The five main races lived in relative peace and harmony with each other and the other inhabitants of Sansara, until the world was thrown into chaos when a group of demons broke into the Sky Palace of Auroak, King of the Angels. They killed guards and civilians alike and managed to steal the Hurricane Blade, though the angels are heavily guarding this fact to prevent from seeming weak. They have now launched a full scale invasion of the demon realm and the violence threatens to spill over to the entire world. However something even more threatening lurks in the shadows. A group of cultists have infiltrated the societies of every race and are orchestrating this descent into chaos. Their mysterious leader seeks out the artifact of each race, and will stop at nothing to get them...rumour has it that whoever this leader was, they wish to become a god themselves by draining the power of all five artifacts and thus pulling a bit of the power of Irune into their own body. Due to all these events, a climate of wariness has settled over the peoples of this continent due to each race not knowing who exactly is working with the cultists or where they originated from. There is especially distrust now toward the demon race, who have vehemently proclaimed their innocence and haven’t wavered from that story ever since the events happened. Whatever the case, there is clearly a threat to the people and their way of life here...and it’s either unite and stand together against it, or fall into the pits of destruction divided. Probably the only reason that this hasn’t erupted into full out war is because there’s a bigger threat to take care of.

Hello guys, me and my awesome friend Tomia have been working on this RP idea for about a week and a half now and we now feel that it’s ready to share with you all now that RL isn’t kicking my ass. I tried not to make it too similar to my current Clash of Kingdoms RP, but I may have failed in that endeavor (if anybody has any suggestions, feel free to comment below). This is the fantasy world of Sansara...I didn’t want to make it your typical fantasy world so there’s the burgeoning development of magi-tech (think things like magic-powered airships, elevators, constructs...gauntlets that you can program spells into, mirrors that can be used like cell-phones, things like that but nothing too huge) to spice things up. There’ll also be a sandbox element so players will be free to go off and do their own thing while the central plot is there so everyone doesn’t get bored. Which is why there also isn't a lot of information about the kingdoms, I wanted to put some basics and let the players who control them fill the blanks in themselves. We’ll be using the OC to help tweak things a bit as well so this RP can be as complete and enjoyable as possible. Now that my rambling is over, here are ze rulez:

1: Don’t make your characters too OP, every race has a weakness. For angels, it’s demonic blood, dark magic and curses. For demons, it’s holy items and divine magic, for faeries it’s good old fashioned iron, and for humans...well, that’s pretty self-explanatory. They’re squishy humans, very breakable. Also there’s the elemental circle: water and fire are weak to one another, earth is weak to water, air is weak against earth, stuff like that. And aether is weak against fire.

2: I’m the Queen-Goddess of this RP...but I am a merciful lady. I may have the final word but I’m more than willing to listen to any concerns or complaints, I want my players to have a good time. That doesn’t mean I’m a pushover.

3: Be respectful toward each other, me and the co-ops.

4: No killing off PCs without permission from that player

Basically your typical RP rules, respect each other and have fun.

Many races inhabit this continent, but there are five main ones who have been around since time began:

Fairies: Fae, fairies, the Fair Folk, the sidhe...this old and somewhat isolationist race go by many names, created by the gods as their first attempt to form the angelic race. Regarded as a “failed experiment” due to not having the qualities they wanted in angelic people, the race was left to its own devices and all but abandoned. However, the fairies evolved into nature spirits over the years: distinguished by their pointed ears, otherworldly appearances and strong magical power over the forces of nature, fairies come in many varieties with elves, selkies, brownies, sprites, nymphs, goblins, pixies, trolls and ogres being some of the more common varieties encountered by humans along with the typical diminutive winged humanoids. Irune-Gaia, the deity’s Aspect of Nature eventually saw their power and granted the fae dominion over the natural world, given the duty of maintaining balance between the other four races.

The courts of the Fae are loosely divided into two courts, Seelie and Unseelie. The Seelie Court rules over the spring and summer, tending more toward being mischievous and playful and being more inclined to help humans. The Unseelie Court rules over fall and winter and tends to be more evil-inclined, although not all of them are this way. Their sense of morality differs quite wildly from most of the races, which puts them at odds with many of the major kingdoms. Most fae dwell within the land of Faerie, which is a realm hidden from human eyes by a magical barrier. Fae are the longest-lived out of all the races, being functionally immortal unless they’re slain. The land of Faerie is a transient realm, appearing much like the human world in a more natural and unaltered state but being entirely alien to the human mind. Time also passes differently here, a year in Faerie could easily be twenty in the human world. Polyamory and bisexuality is common among fairies, with many fae having several spouses at once.

Demons: The third race created by the Supreme Deity, demons are a race of beings who make their foothold on Sansara in the Plane of Fire (so called due to it being a volcanic, arid area) and dwell in their realm below the earth although they can make their homes anywhere. But usually it’s near a heat source, especially near a volcano. Created to be the antithesis of angels and to maintain the darker side of the Balance, demons operate very much like fairies in that most of them aren’t outright evil, but prefer to use trickery and double-dealing to accomplish their goals. They also tend to pull pranks, especially on angels with whom they’ve had a longstanding racial rivalry. Their tendency toward fire and shadow magic is unequalled by any other race, and demons are often distinguished by their bestial features...mostly humanoid but often having traits such as horns, claws, fanged teeth, goats’ legs or eyes and many more as long as it’s some hybrid of human and beast. Some of them may even have animal’s heads, like minotaurs. Unlike angels, their hierarchy is far looser and they like to focus on revelry rather than war. Because of this, they’re often seen as irresponsible or lascivious.

Demons tend to live in a more communal family structure, the phrase “it takes a village” is a way of life among them. When a child is born, the entire extended family and others in the community bands together to help raise it and look out for it. A tightly-knit family is the core of a demon’s society, with family being placed above all. They mature faster than angels, at around 50 years of age but then they stop aging after that, living for about 700 years on average angels if they aren’t killed in battle. Even though their lifespan is shorter than an angel’s, they compensate for this by being way harder to kill. Each demon has two hearts, one human and one animal...they’ll keep functioning as long as at least one of these hearts is intact.

Angels: Many say that angels were the first race created by the gods (actually they were the second, but technically they were the first race acknowledged) and exist in sky cities above the earth. The angels had not always lived there however, as first they lived upon the earth before the arrival of humans. At first angels attempted to guide the younger race, despite some resenting the creation of humans, but soon their efforts proved futile and in frustrations the angels retreated from Earth all together, instead building cities in the sky itself.
Physically, angels are winged creatures, some have horns of varying shapes but most do not. Angels are generally taller than humans and average around seven feet tall. Angels are also very cerebral beings. They are profound empaths and through touch are able to share the experiences, memories, and physical sensations of another being. Most angels have some level of shapeshifting abilities but it is rare for angels to be able to change their entire bodies. Angels often take on exotic appearances that can vary greatly. The average angel life span is a thousand years and they reach maturity around 100.
Culturally speaking Angelic society is rather complex. It operates under a strict caste system that regulates much of social life. The system is based largely on one's role in the world. The different classes are rulers, warriors, caretakers, workers, merchants, thinkers, and wanderers. Most classes are self explanatory though wanderer serves a unique role. Their purpose in life is to explore other races and garner information that might be useful to the angels. An angel's class gets reevaluated every 100 years by the ruling class and reassignment is possible whether it be as a demotion or reward for service.
Angelic society is unique in that it lacks a traditional family structure. Children are not born in the traditional way(though angels do have the capacity to do this despite it being very frowned upon) rather angels are produced through a psychic ritual that results in offspring. Angels do not have a concept of marriage and often do not adhere to the concept of monogamy. Children are not raised by their parents but rather collective communities organized by the caretaker class. Once children reach adult age they leave their sky city on and become a wanderer on what is called their pilgrimage. On pilgrimage angels seek out new knowledge or interesting artifacts or inventions to present to the ruling class who will decide their class upon their return.

Humans: Possibly the most diverse, versatile, adaptable and numerous of all the races. They can be found everywhere, from the pale-skinned Keom who tend to frequent the northern regions to the dark-skinned Jeorne native to the swirling Jeorneland desert sands and the Midlanders who live in the lush heart of the continent. On average, Keom men stand between 5’7 and 6’1 and the women from 5’5 to 5’9. Tough and hardy with white-blonde to red to brown hair, they make for excellent warriors. Jeorne men stand from 5’11 to 6’7 on average while the women stand from 5’7 to 5’11, they vary in skin tone from light sandy brown to ebony dark, and they often wear their dark hair in elaborate styles decorated with gold and silver trinkets. They are often merchants and craftsmen, producing some of the finest crafted artworks and weapons on Sansara. Now the Midlanders are the most diverse in their appearance, their skin and hair can vary from fair to dark and their heights vary just as much...but their eyes are usually any shade from pale green to medium brown. They’re often farmers, their region making up the breadbasket of the continent. They’re a squishy, fragile race but their advantage is that they are highly adaptable and able to survive just about anywhere. That, and their resourcefulness are the traits that made them one of the main superpowers on this continent.

Mer: The ever elusive merfolk have lived secretly in the waters of the world ever since the beginning of time. They are as varied as the creatures of the seas and rivers and come in a myriad of shapes and sizes, some even eat the flesh of humans. It is said that merfolk are all the descendants of the daughter of Irune, a young water nymph who fell in love with a dashing fisherman. Their descendants gained the power to breathe underwater, and as the generations went on they began to live in the sea permanently. Their power lies in their enchanting voices, using their siren’s song to lure sailors to their deaths as well as their mastery over water magic. The song of a siren can make whoever hears it highly open to suggestions. Children of the sea, so much so that they were named after the ocean that they would be their new home. They became as varied and changeable as the waters themselves, over time they migrated to oceans all over the world and even the freshwater rivers and lakes as they bread and multiplied. They were part of the underwater world now, developing the lower halves of fish and other sea creatures but they retained the upper form and the intelligence of humans, some formed civilizations and kingdoms while others decided to become nomads.

Magic:
Magic is an all-pervasive force of nature, the energy of Irune flowing into all things. Most are able to harness this energy in at least some form, but few are able to do it to the level of a master wizard or any of the non-human races. Harnessing magic is allowing your body to become a vessel of the deity’s power, and as such it’s subject to the laws of nature. The laws of nature, like all laws are flexible and using magic is bending those laws somewhat. Outright breaking those laws, such as going beyond the bounds of what could realistically happen without it (like let’s say...bringing the dead back to life or a flightless creature actually flying) can happen, but that tends to put a strain on the caster’s body depending on how huge/powerful the spell is or how far you’ve bent/broken the laws of nature. Simply bending those laws carries a lighter penalty than outright breaking them (like simple exhaustion vs serious injury), so using magic on a huge scale requires massive amounts of training in order to lessen the strain and keeping the body from being pushed to its limits. It’s only in rare cases that the capabilities of magic can go beyond what nature’s laws allow.
Most magicians can circumvent this a little bit by using an arcane focus, an enchanted object used to channel magic and work spells. Those using foci tend to take less damage from casting as some of the impact or backlash gets absorbed by these objects rather than the caster themselves...and the foci are re-enchanted often whenever they take too much of a battering. Pretty much any inanimate object can be an arcane focus, as long as it’s inscribed with the proper runes and spells. The magic of the world comes from various sources since it permeates pretty much everything with elemental magic being the most common. Defined as the ability to control one of the five elements, this type of magic is the most common and thus the most commonly used. Most people from the five races specialize in the magic of that race’s element, and it’s almost unheard of for people to be able to wield more than one. More obscure branches of magic like necromancy and temporal magic are exceedingly rare and considered dangerous to handle even by experienced professionals, since these tend to break the laws of nature on a massive scale. Potioneering is the second most common, as most people with enough alchemical knowledge can mix the right ingredients together in order to make a brew. Things like shields and wards or banishing tend to bend the laws of nature a bit more, so only those with enough study and training can use them.

WIP

Name: Riordan Leaflight
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Race/Species: Human
Personality: She's a very bright and energetic person, loving to be in the spotlight and is a huge social butterfly. However, she can also be a bit unstable and flighty as creatives tend to be...being so caught up in a project that they forget about the things and people around them.
Sexual/Romantic preference (optional): Heterosexual
Appearance: (golden eyes, white hair):
Image

Bio: Born in the the town of Bahri in the Jeorneland Sultanate to Alisa Leaflight, an herbalist and midwife and Ahmose Leaflight, a bookbinder, Riordan is the youngest of three daughters. When her mother was pregnant, her parents were convinced that their third child would be the long-awaited son they were hoping for and so chose the name Riordan from a book her father was reading. When she was born a girl, they didn't bother to change it because that's what they'd been calling her this entire time. There was disappointment that she wasn't the prayed-for boy, but she was still raised with all the love that a child is supposed to receive. From an early age, her talent in music was apparent as she enjoyed singing and she always told her family that she was going to be famous.

Her eldest sister Dharma saw Riordan practicing her lute one day and noticed that strange things would happen when she played. Her toys would float, the flowers in the pots would change color...little things like that, and she notified their parents. It turned out that she was unknowingly channeling magic, but through music instead of the traditional wands and incantations. When Riordan was old enough, she got jobs around her town and saved up enough money to enroll herself in the Bardic track at the local magical arts college, having apprenticed under Asif Mustafa, a bard and somewhat of a local celebrity in Bahri until then. She travels around now as an adventurer and wandering minstrel, honing her spellcraft as well as her guitar skills. She hopes one day to get a permanent gig, maybe as a royal bard and advisor to someone of importance. Bards are recorders and keepers of history, and she wants to be a part of that grand tradition.
Goals: To get a permanent job under someone of high station, to increase her fame and be a world-renowned bard.
Likes: Music (of course), magic,
Dislikes:
Theme Song:
Powers/Abilities:
As a necromancer bard, Riordan has an array of unique abilities...her spells come from playing the correct selection of notes on her lute.

Sleepsong: Playing this chord charms the target to fall into a magically induced sleep.
Danse Macabre: This song, when played correctly allows her to summon up to five skeletons, ghosts or zombies to assist her in battle...but since this breaks the laws of nature, she can't use it too much without major backlash to her body and/or her arcane focus
Bone Rot: This song causes the target to take necrotic damage
Death Metal: Controls nearby metal and spins it into projectiles
Repose: This song boosts morale and can heal minor wounds

Name: Sariel
Age: 250
Gender: Male(though this doesn't mean much for angels)
Race/Species: Angel
Personality: Sariel is a rebel by nature. He is charismatic and thoughtful, someone who throughout his short life(by angelic standards) has shown great leadership qualities. He can sometimes be cocky and overconfident and no one would contest that he is an idealist. However his determination boarders on stubborn and when he sets his mind to a cause or an idea, he is not deterred easily. Sariel might be described by some as a romantic in the sense that he can get swept up in fantasies and noble causes a trait that is not common among the pragmatic and stoic angels.
Sexual/Romantic preference (optional):
Appearance: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/aa/a9/dc/aaa9dc6ca1c6fb38b98d1e28b0cf7c17.jpg
Bio:
Sariel doesn't know who his parents were, which is far from uncommon for an angel. He was raised as all other angels are by caretakers among children his age. His specific caretaker was an angel named Rosa. As Sariel went through his training and proficiency exams like every other child, it soon became clear that Sariel was special. His magical abilities were remarkable so much so that it was too dangerous for him to even practice with his fellow peers. Not only that but Sariel's intelligence clear and he could engage in philosophical debates that stumped even serious scholars. It wasn't long until the ruler class took serious notice in him. This was because there was prophecy that was held sacred by the angels. That one day two angels would be born, the heirs to the holy throne. These siblings would be friends turned enemies and their conflict would decide the fate of the entire race. The older child the loyal son, and the younger child a rebel. For this reason the only angel have "children" in the common sense was the King, who would adopt two children that he felt had the potential to fulfill the prophecy. Sariel was thus being watched to fulfill the role of the younger child, and as he grew he did not disappoint. Sariel never seemed to fit traditional angelic culture. He didn't like the idea of being restricted to a role nor did he like the solemn and strict nature of their culture. For him angels were boring and he was desperate to explore. When Sariel entered his pilgrimage phase he couldn't wait to leave the realm of the angels. He spent that hundred years exploring as much of the other worlds as he could. He found himself fascinated with human culture. Their conflicts, their inner turmoil, their love stories, all of them captured the young angel's attention. He spent decades observing everyday human interactions as well as their literature and art. By the end of his pilgrimage Sariel had even considered not returning at all. However he did return and at his tribunal rather than present an artifact or an interesting invention, instead he posed a question to the ruling class.

"Why are there no angel poets?"

This question stunned the ruling class, and caused a great deal of controversy. Art was something that was seen as beneath angels, who were a calculating and militant race. Sariel wanted to remain a wanderer but instead he was ultimately assigned to the ruling class. He was made the second heir to the king and assigned a military role. Sariel proved a capable commander but was constantly bucking angelic traditions and orders from his superiors. He has now become an extremely polarizing figure in angelic society, making no secrets that he opposes the war against the demons. Sariel firmly believes that angels must change their ways. They must integrate with other races and embrace individualism rather than suppress it. He is an opponent of the class system as well, and some fear his dissent is leading their society to civil unrest.
Goals: To change angelic society, to establish democracy and freedom of expression for angels.
Likes: Poetry, music, art, traveling, chocolate
Dislikes: Rules, tradition, war,
Theme Song:
Powers/Abilities:
Air Magic- Sariel has ability, as many angels do, to manipulate the air. He can create powerful blasts of wind and culture the wind to increase his speed on the air and on the ground.

Flight- Using his wings Sariel can fly

Telepathy- Like all angels Sariel can feel others thoughts, memories, and emotions through touch

Swordsmanship- Skilled and trained one handed swordsman. He mostly uses speed and finesse to compensate for his lack of strength

Telekinesis- A very unique combination of his air and telepathy abilities, Sariel is able to manipulate the movement of objects and people with his mind. This power takes a great deal of energy and requires his sword as a conduit for proper use.

Name: Paraval
Age: 300
Gender: Male(Again more for other races than angels)
Race/Species: Angel
Personality: Paraval is to many the perfect example for angels to follow. He is dutiful, gentle, cautious, and dedicated to the well being of his people. Paraval is the quite solemn type. He is not much for politics or intrigue and prefers peace and quite to adventure. He however is a fierce warrior and not without a temper. Paraval does not take joy in violence like some warriors but is absolutely dedicated to the fulfillment of his duty.
Sexual/Romantic preference (optional):
Appearance: Paraval
Bio: Paraval was the first of two to be chosen as heir to the current King of the Angels. As a child, Paraval's physical prowess and abilities were unlike any his caretakers had ever seen. He was a natural leader but also an obedient student and child. Paraval found great interest in religion and when it became clear that he was being considered to be an heir he embraced the honor fully. During his pilgrimage Paraval recruited a number of other angels and created a fighting force dedicated to eradicating injustice in other realms. They became known among humans as the vengeful angels. When he returned he was instantly selected as the next heir. A few decades later the next heir was claimed and Paraval embraced his younger brother despite knowing that if the prophecy came to be true they would be enemies. They became very close but Paraval is wary of his brother's rebellious spirit. When the war broke out, Paraval became the face of the pro war movement and his brother the face of the anti war movement. They fought bitterly over it but it was clear neither would change their mind. For now they have an uneasy peace between them but the tension is clearly there.
Goals: To protect his society, become king, avenge his people
Likes: Faith, discipline, nature
Dislikes: Chaos, nay-saying, crowds
Theme Song:
Powers/Abilities:
Strength- Paraval is incredibly powerful even by angel standards, which allows him to wield massive weapons with seeming ease.

Light Magic- Paraval can create blasts of lights that can blind and disorient, they also radiate heat and with enough concentrated strength can burn.

Swordsmanship-Paraval is currently considered the greatest swordsman among the angels, his strength combined with his speed and technique make him a deadly foe.

Well, I have been looking for an RP to join. I tend to create RPs using ideas I'd like to explore yet I end up mismanaging the RP aspect it's self. I've been involved in world building enough to feel that what I'd contribute would be disruptive to the importance of the five races. That and the concept it's self tends to be disruptive in most fantasy settings. That, being that I'd like to play a dragon character again. The concept I devised as presentable would be a people whose place in the natural order could be described as between fairy and demon. Having brought that up I suppose I can still present the concept even if it isn't suitable for a player race. I propose that Dragons where created by the supreme being in a time before the balance was assigned to demons and angels and thus where created prior to the fairies explaining their more beast like appearance rather then that which could be described as humanoid. Dragons have an elemental connection being closer to the time of creation compared to the others. They don't have the nature dominion of fairies nor the earth affinity of demons but rather a tie to the five basic elements. The concept of a 'darker and lighter' side to the balance would have derived from the dragon's time where balance referred to the elements acting in harmony to sustain creation. Dragons themselves fell to what is now known as 'darkness' with some serving the 'light'. The Supreme began creating the fairies during this early conflict and eventually the angels and demons.

You’re right...the concept would blow a lot of the established lore apart...but just you wanting to play a dragon isn’t really an issue. Thanks for checking us out, I appreciate it.

Name: Eyseth Adamarrh

Age: 52; appears to be in early- to mid-twenties

Gender: Female

Race/Species: Half-Human, Half-Demon

Personality: A traumatized, embittered individual, Eyseth is extremely aggressive and prone to anger. She casts angels and humans who persecute the demons, especially those who blame them for the disappearance of the Hurricane Blade, in a negative light, and her face is held in a near-perpetual scowl. She is highly unapproachable and appears to always be ready for combat. Eyseth always sleeps with her carefully maintained axe, and it is rumored that she has not smiled in over thirty years, though she will neither conrifm nor deny this statement. She has a difficult time in social situations, as she fears persecution and always speaks in a guarded tone. Very few who come across her will correctly identify her species, let alone hear her actual name, for it is rare that she will carry on a conversation.

Deep inside, Eyseth is very lonely, and she spends most nights crying herself to sleep. She misses her family, and she often feels that there is no one in the world to love her, for she in convinced she will spend the entirety of her life an outcast.

Despite what others may think, Eyseth is actually quite religious, and she is painfully aware of how her actions might reflect negatively on her fate after death. There is a grain of goodness within her; she just has to dig sometimes to find it.

Sexual/Romantic preference (optional): Heterosexual

Appearance:

Image

Bio: The union between Eyseth's parents was a highly dangerous and extremely controversial one, frowned upon by the demons and vilified by humans and angels alike. Ciotet Adamarrh, a human from an insignificant farming village, wed Hiil'Saryx Invarrough, a demoness with hardly anything to her name. They made their vows in secret by the light of fire, clad not in white but charcoal, their bond forged with bands of iron amidst an audience of smoke. Hoping to someday raise children, they chose to settle in the human realm, though Ciotet had been banished from his native village. They instead lived in a quiet farmhouse in eastern Krelia and decided to raise crops, disguising Hiil'Saryx's identity all the while.

Eyseth was born into a world of lies and hatred smothered by an idyllic landscape and provincial optimism. She was raised to outwardly present herself as fully human, and to regard the other children with politeness instead of spite. Her ability to use fire magic, as well as the ashen tones of her hair and skin, marked her as something other than human, and she and her family often came under ridicule. None of the other children so much as looked in her direction, much less befriended her, and she turned instead to strengthening her fire magic.

Her younger sister, Halla Jordan, was born when Eyseth was six. Like Eyseth, Halla possessed physical traits that marked her as not quite human; however, unlike Eyseth, her magical gifts were for the element Aether as opposed to fire. Being several years older meant that Eyseth was fiercely protective of her sister, especially when it came to taunts from village children and even some adults.

As tensions betwixt the human and demonic races increased, the Adamarrh family was subjected to more and more abuse. Bricks were flung through their windows, their plants were intentionally killed, water seeped through the walls of their house, and chaos spells threatened to tear the entire building apart. Ciotet erected a barrier round the farm when Eyseth was eleven, and her mother began to teach her combative skills; she honed her magic alongside hand-to-hand fighting and weapon utilization.

While Eyseth learned to fight with a sword, knife, and crossbow, she excelled at using an axe. Her parents fashioned her a custom steel blade for her fifteenth birthday, the last gift they would ever bestow upon her, as a sign of her mastery of the weapon.

Catastrophe struck five short months later. Somehow, men from the village caught the farmhouse on fire; the inferno spread across the building, uncontrollable even by Hiil'Saryx and Eyseth, who was trapped in her bedroom and unable to escape. Smoke filled her lungs, flames licked her skin, but she remained unscathed as she curled around her axe, straining to control the blaze and subsequently eliminate it. But there was a force greater than anything she had ever encountered. Exhausted, sweaty, and covered in soot, she started screaming, for she was pinned under fallen beams and thus trapped.

Hiil'Saryx found her, half-conscious and sobbing, her body curled around the battle axe inscribed with her name and the names of her sister and parents. Her mother dragged her out from under the fallen beams and led her through the fire, as both of them were immune to its wrath, and out into the night, where the villagers had gathered.

Ciotet and Halla were already dead, having asphyxiated on the smoke, their bodies coated in ash. Hiil'Saryx, even with her immense power, had been prevented from rescuing them by the presence of angel-blessed water on their struggling forms. Had Hiil'Saryx attempted to save them, she would have suffered an agonizing death, as well.

When Hiil'Saryx and Eyseth exited the burning remains of their livelihood, they were greeted by an aggressive band of village men who immediately seized them. The ringleader, Bredon Johnstone, turned to the multitude and loudly convinced them that it was Hiil'Saryx who, due to her demonic nature, had turned on her family and started the fire with the intent to kill.

Outraged, the villagers erupted into a mob. Armed with holy objects, tools, and the occasional weapon, they attacked Hiil'Saryx Ivarrough, relentlessly brutalizing her and tearing her apart while teenage Eyseth was forced to watch. Hiil'Sarys fought them with all of the strength she possessed, killing villagers with fireballs and walls of flames, tearing at them with her claws and sharp teeth, utilizing every fighting skill she knew. But there were too many of them, including some who had come from nearby villages, and she was overwhelmed.

When they were finished, the lifeless heap was practically unrecognizable, and now there was blood seeping into the blackened land. Eyseth, trembling and in shock, remained fixated on her mother's corpse. And the eyes of the humans turned to her as they waited for Bredon to deliver her fate.

But something inside Eyseth finally snapped. In one swift motion, she broke free of her captor and whirled around, flames shooting from her fingers directly into his face. She reached for her battle axe and swung it at one of the men who was surely responsible for this tragedy, Soren Michaelson, and buried the blade in his chest. Screaming, Eyseth rampaged across the charred field, cutting and slicing and hacking until the ringleaders were either injured or dead, she didn't care, just wanted to make them feel her pain. The villagers, terrified, backed away from her, and she bared her teeth at them as the edge of her axe glistened with dark liquid.

Eyseth stayed in the village just long enough to give her family a proper burial. She rummaged through the wreckage of her home and collected a few items that had been precious to each of them, including Halla's favorite stuffed bears, which had miraculously survived. After the funeral, she went to live with her Aunt Nane and Uncle Rumen in Midland.

Her aunt, who was Ciotet's younger sister, helped counsel and take care of Eyseth for three years alongside her three young sons. Then, when Eyseth was eighteen, she left the false comfort of her aunt and uncle's farm and headed to Krelia, where she planned to exact her revenge.

Eyseth spent years traveling across the human realm, searching for those responsible for the monstrous act that had been committed against her family. She was determined to discover whether it had just been those rogue villagers, or if it had been part of a higher scheme, something she was never able to prove. Decades continued the pass, and, while her bitterness only grew, her purpose shifted. She was now a vigilante who destroyed those who persecuted demons, sometimes for pay, but usually not.

When her aunt and uncle died of old age, she and her three cousins, now grown and with children of their own, buried them. She then wandered mindlessly, happening to come upon the village her family had lived him ere they were all destroyed.

Much had changed over the thirty-seven years since she had been there last. Nearly all of the instigators whom she had suspected had started the fire were dead, and their children had grandchildren of their own. Not many had been witnesses or accomplices were left, and her families' graves remained untouched. The place where her farmhouse once stood was now covered in grass, though she could tell where the burn marks had been, and the original foundation had been transformed into a modest memorial.

It was then that Eyseth had a breakdown; she was sobbing, rolled into the fetal position on the ground, rocking back and forth and clutching her axe. All of the sins she had committed in their name rush forth, and she started screaming, causing villagers to come running. Those who recognized her came and carried her to a nearby cottage, where they wrapped her in blankets and comforted her.

When she was ready to move on, she did so, and headed straight for the demon realm. For it was while she was in the village that the Hurricane Blade was stolen. However, she never did quite make it, for a peculiar turn of events led her to wander deeper into the territory of the humans....

Goals: Eyseth is determined to eliminate the rift between humans and demons, though her means of doing so are highly unsavory. She is fervently against the idea that the entire demon race should shoulder the blame for the disappearance of the Hurricane Blade, especially since the perpetrators have not been caught, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to avenge her family.

Eyseth secretly hopes she will find someone to be her accomplice or, ideally, her friend. She is tired of spending her days alone and unloved and wants someone to treat her with the same affection her parents and sister did.

Likes: Eyseth rather enjoys using her axe and fire magic, if not necessarily for violent means. She may play with fire for fun, or swing her axe around to exercise and blow off steam. She enjoys exploration

Dislikes: Eyseth hates the men who killed her family with a burning passion, and, though most of them are dead (amny were killed either by Eyseth or her mother), she seeks to enact vengeance on them in any way she can. She loathes people despising her for her maternal heritage, and she especially hates being accused of being evil or holding some responsibility in the disappearance of the Hurricane Blade. One of the main reasons she is so determined for it to be found is that she wants to clear her name, and the name of the demon race as a whole.

Theme Song: Pending.

Powers/Abilities: A deft fire mage, Eyseth can summon, control, and quench fires using only her mind. She can shoot flames from her fingertips, build and launch fireballs, and light herself and her possession on fire. Additionally, she is immune to the effects of flames, though she has not surmounted the difficulty of dealing with smoke. Outside of magic, she is lethal with an array of weapons, especially her battle axe, which doubles as her arcane focus.
Worldbuilding ideas: The characters who are leaders assign various other characters to search for the blade in paerties...or something. Or maybe they are all setting out to find the Blade for one reason or another, and it turns into a sort of race.

Accepted, Fardel...but your power idea, it’s basically the same as ours except fairies control aether and humans have the tendency toward earth magic. I do like the idea that some members of a species may have an affinity for a different element though.

Name: Emilia "Emi" Aigner
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Race/Species: Human
Personality: Emi is very bookish, passionate, and loves exploration and learning. She is not the greatest conversationalist however as she does not spend much time around other people. She can be a bit off putting in conversation as she has a tendency to study people. Still despite this she is a genuinely kind person, with barely a mean bone in her body.
Sexual/Romantic preference (optional):
Appearance: Minus the Elf Ears
Bio: Emila Aigner was born in the midlands to a family of modest means. She was by no means poor, growing up the daughter of the town's blacksmith and a mother who made money making clothing. She was one of five siblings and the only daughter. Her brothers all at some point in their life worked with their father in the forge and Emi was expected to help her mother make clothes. She did that for a while growing up but soon her mind drifted towards books. She devoured every book she could get her hands on, and became fascinated with stories and histories of far away places. As she entered her teen years she wanted more than anything to travel to a major city and study other cultures. She had many fights with her parents but eventually they reluctantly agreed to let her travel off to the city Ravenspire. Ravenspire is widely considered the cultural hub of the midlands and its university has a wide spread and rigorous reputation. At fifteen she traveled off with one of her older brothers to the city and managed to enroll in the university. Her coursework was daunting and she had little free time but Emi loved every moment of her studies. The only thing she didn't like was how some of her peers and even a few professors looked down on her because of her humble beginnings. This drove Emilia to work harder then ever and soon she was indisputably the most talented student in her class. She primarily studied history and became fascinated by demon history and culture. She took umbrage with the many misconceptions humans held about them. As she got older she traveled to the land of the demons, studying their social interactions as well as historical sites and artifacts. She received her doctorate from the university at 24, her thesis discussed the nature of demonic morality which contested the notion that demon society was immoral or amoral. Her research is needless to say, a bit controversial. However she is now employed by the university as a researcher and is currently writing a book regarding demonic family values and their similarities and differences to humans.
Goals: To bring better understanding of demons to human society.
Likes: Reading, exploring ruins,
Dislikes: excessive social interactions, coming off as awkward, prejudice
Theme Song:
Powers/Abilities:
Very intelligent, skilled in basic life skills such as medicine, herbalist, and survival skills.

You're accepted Tom! Here's my WIP app.

Name: Shannon Llyr
Age: 30
Gender: Female
Race/Species: Human/Fairy hybrid
Personality: Shannon is a bit of an odd duck with a mischievous, playful nature, growing up with fairy morals (which have clashed among humans). The brains of the fay operate on a different system, their concept of good and evil is somewhat alien to most human civilizations so things like stealing babies and replacing them with changelings are completely fine (or in the case of Shannon, digging up graves to find bodies to use in homunculi experiments). Shannon does know how to act human though, having learned from her mother but sometimes she has trouble knowing when she went too far with her pranks and is willing to go further than most alchemists for her experiments because "it's all for the good of science, right?"
Sexual/Romantic preference (optional): "Hey, I'll try anything once."
Appearance:
Image

Bio: Shannon was born to a young huntress from Midland and a fay father, her mother caught his eye as she was tracking prey through the Broadleaf Woods with her hunting party. She was injured and the fairy scout took pity on her, helping her take care of her wounds and nursing her back to health. Several times after that, they met up and started an affair...Shannon was the result. Her parents made their home in the forest, and that was the environment Shannon grew up in. Among the fairies, her green skin and pointed ears weren't much of an issue but the same couldn't really be said for when she spent time among humans (less time than she spent with fay). Not like she was tormented for it much, but there were definitely stares, remarks, and human children would tease her as a child because of it. She'd always been a curious child and her mother would bring her back books from her trips into the human parts of town, and that’s when she formed an interest in the alchemical sciences.

When she grew old enough to live on her own, Shannon enrolled in a Midland university and took alchemy and transmutation courses, deciding to strike out on her own upon graduating with high marks. She now lives in Kartesia and runs her own shop/laboratory, and is trying to find a way to create a working Philosopher’s Stone.
