[Draft]Unrest in resource-rich ethnic lands calls the future

Postby Estovlaka » Thu Aug 13, 2020 3:52 pm

Headline- Unrest in resource-rich ethnic lands calls the future of the region into question (not sure about the title lol)

Description-
Members of an ethnic group in eastern @@nation@@ have been blamed for a string of fatal terrorist attacks that have occurred across the country in recent weeks, with many calling for increased autonomy and more radically, for independence. Unfortunately for the local inhabitants, their lands sit on sizable resource deposits that make up some of the largest in @@nation@@. Members of your cabinet have come to your office to offer their solutions.

Option 1
“I say we show these backward savages what's coming to them!”, scoffs @@randomname@@ your Chief of Staff as @@he@@ slams @@his@@ fist on your desk. “Forced integration, that's the only way. If we stop them from speaking their native tongue, take away their freedoms, put up a few checkpoints and move some of our more, loyal, citizens into their lands, we’ll have the whole province pacified in a few short generations!”

-

Option 2
“I'm not convinced that such a heavy-handed approach would give us the results we want, and it certainly wouldn’t look very good internationally…”, your Secretary of State, @@randomname@@, says sitting collectedly across from you. “Why don’t we use some of the revenue from resource exports in the region to fund schools and local infrastructure projects. Through programs and local initiatives we can help bolster government support in the region, and… the government still gets to keep the bulk of the export revenue. It's a win-win for us…”

-

Option 3
@@randomname@@, your Secretary of Health and Human Services looks around with an appalled expression around the room. “What?! How are either of those plans going to work when its the government that made them frustrated, to begin with? If we want to solve the problems in the region we have to give concessions. We should start by granting more autonomy to the locals to make their laws and give them control over resource export revenues. I mean why should the federal government have anything to say about what they do with their own resources?

-

Option 4
“I think I can do one better than that,” @@randomname@@ your new intern says while eavesdropping on your cabinet meeting. Why don’t you just give these people what they want! They don’t need some country like @@nation@@ barging in on their lives and telling them what to do! I say we grant them independence allow people to be the masters of their own destiny! FREEEDDOM!!!

Small nitpick, but why assume that resources are in the east of nation? Especially considering that in real life, resourses tend to be located on Western sides of things

I feel like there was no real reason for me choosing any particular direction. Other than that I appreciate the input.

What are these "resources," why do you need such a long title, and WHERE are your effect lines?

It’s @@NAME@@, not @@nation@@

You need to work on grammar.

You’re missing effect lines.

Alright, it seems that all your macros are lowercase. They have to be in all caps, such as @@RANDOMNAME@@ or @@HE@@.

1. fair point on the "genericness" of the term resources.
2. Haven't really taken the time to think of a shorter, more concise title.
3. effect lines? Im quite new to writing issues so if you could explain that would be appreciated.

1. I'll be sure to give my wording more thought and I appreciate the input.
2. Not sure what effect lines are, so if you could help me out there that would be appreciated.
3. I'll be sure to change them to uppercase.

Read the Got Issues FAQ and Guide for information on how to write an issue and what constitutes an issue (including effect lines).

This needs more humor. The writing's not terrible, but it's too dry.

What makes this different from the existing issues about secessionists or ethnic minorities demanding this or that from the government?

1. Fair enough.
2. Not sure what makes it different. Is there a list specific to certain kinds of issues or do you just have to sift through them all?

There's a list, that unfortunately you have to sift through. Keyword searches help for specific topics, though. A list of policies and related issues also exists, though this may not capture all issues related to a policy, only those that implement or cancel such policy.

Your current draft feels like it has overlap with Issue #664, with the aspect of "local inhabitants live on piece of land with valuable resources", while the secessionist segment is similar to other secessionist issues demanding increased autonomy (Issue #67, Issue #111). The "ethnic group has been blamed for a string of fatal terrorist attacks" simply takes from the regular trope of "foreign/different culture perpetuates terrorist attack to advance a cause" that is evident in many issues.

It's sort of a blend, but I think the most damning overlap is with the first issue. Aside from that, creating a unique premise rather than a mix of several should be your next step.

Just say a resource rich part of the country. Don't specify unless you need to. Better to leave it vague and ambigious, also, overlap with 664?

Sorry I stole your idea!

Ill take a look at the list and sift through it, preciate it.
