NS MILITARY WORLDBUILDING THREAD NO. 12

Welcome to the NS Military Worldbuilding thread! Which is strictly relegated to worldbuilding your military and not your fifty-ninehundredth harem fantasy. We try to offer critique based on what you define as realistic in your personal canon but remember author fiat cannot always save your skin, especially when it gets ridiculous.

I cba to actually make a decent OP. But y'all're aware of the drill already so.

The first suggestion I am going to make since we've been having too many of those: If Google and most importantly common sense hasn't helped to figure out the basics and you are asking the equivalent of "How long is a piece of string?" your question is likely not suitable here.
The second "suggestion": I will not countenance any discussion of anybody doing anything below the age of 21 in this thread, under any circumstance.

I truly wonder which one between the JF-17 and the Tejas will come out on top when they inevitably end up going toe to toe. Neither of them seem great to be honest.

They could do. Equally they could make good infantrymen or truck drivers. It depends on more than simply their IQ and to an extent also depends on what you expect your infantrymen and truck drivers to do. There isn't really a golden bullet for determining who would or wouldn't make a good soldier. What IQ is mostly going to tell you is how quickly the men or women in question will pick up new skills or become proficient at doing complicated things. Now, infantrymen and truck drivers are generally speaking on the more simple end of the jobs militaries want people to do and a lot of what they do can be learned through repetition. So, if you just want your lowest level infantrymen and truck drivers shutting up and doing as they're told and trained and outsourcing their deeper brain activity to their officers and NCOs, guys on the lower end of the IQ spectrum could be very good infantrymen or truck drivers. But then you have a fragile formation that loses its ability to act once its officers and NCOs start going down. But equally, if you fill the infantry or logistics units with brainiacs, you're going to starve other units of the army who genuinely need smart people.

All this is a very long-winded way of saying that it depends. You can have both smart and dumb infantrymen and truck drivers. Both can be good at the job and a mix of both is best.

WAIS III cutoff for US Army enlistments (Category III AFQT) is literally 92. Dipping into Category IV (<92 on WAIS III, I don't know conversions to WAIS IV or anything newer) is generally done only with waiver and I think is limited to something like 2% or 5% of the total Army force by law. It only really becomes an issue when the Army needs meat for the grinder like Vietnam or Iraq though, in peacetime it typically keeps it below 1% AFAIK.

The average Taliban fighter would probably be hitting Category IV if they're lucky, perhaps not the least because they're barely literate.
