Lieutenant-Colonel Martin De Clifford of the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Regiment, is on trial for manslaughter for his role in the Newcastle Incident where he ordered his troops to fire into a crowd of protesters, some of whom were obstructing the police.
The trial is a British court-martial but Northumbrian citizens have been invited to give evidence against him.
He is defended by Major (retired) Ahmed Ali Khan, LLB (of the Inner Temple), a barrister specialising in court-martial cases and former Army Legal Officer.
The prosecutor is Major (Retired) Arthur MacDonald, LLB of Lincolns Inn, employed by the Service Prosecutions Authority.
