Calling a nation's people "simple", in the sense used here, seems to imply Americans are stupid, which seems somewhat trollish (and the "most" doesn't seem like a qualifier, as Americans are called "a simple people" as a whole after the "most"):

EDIT: If the raised eyebrow was to me, what I was aiming to say -- poorly -- is that from what I've observed (sometimes) the use of a qualifier has -- though not always -- made the difference between whether or not a statement is trolling (IIRC). But, just grammatically speaking, that didn't seem to be the case.

Whatever the intent, it comes across as dismissive of the collective reasoning powers of c.330 million people.
