@Iderbayar Oronar (IdreeKhanHD) I would agree. Having proper dialogue among developers and even customers is crucial for a product to be made as promised. If not, then it'll be either floating in insignifance or in the trash heap.

Good to hear. :)

Indeed. Outside influence and shifts in society would play a role also in an Empire's or country's downfall. There have been instances where outside influence has been the case in the First Dynastic Crisis and before (see the Treaty of Apamea, Alexander Balas and Alexander Zabinas). I won't explain much about them, so research them when you have the time. And there is one particular instance where societal shifts have played a role in the downfall of the Empire, and that is the spread of Christianity. To put it simply, Christianity was becoming powerful that societal strifes, persecutions and even internal conflicts broke out over when the Lathyrosians declared it the realm's main religion. I would recommend Siùbhan MacCathain's The Rise and Prominence of Christianity in the Seleucid Empire on this subject.

I see. And if I were there when they conquered and pillaged, I would submit to them immediately. :lol2: And did the Shalrusi execute those local rulers that were defiant, or did they still keep them for their usefulness or other circumstances? Also, how you've described the Shalrusi Khanate's governance reminds me of that of the Empire, in which locals were able to hold government positions.

Hmm. Interesting. Somewhat similar to how the Three Ascendancies and ultimately the Seleucid Empire fell to internal strife, fragmentations and external powers, except for the union part. However, even when serving under new powers, the Greeks still held offices. And interesting also for the Kyrenaian part. :)

The Gospel for tomorrow, the Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, is Mt 14:22-33, which immediately follows the Feeding of the 5000 and depicts Jesus walking on water as narrated by St. Matthew. This event is also recorded in the Gospels of Ss. Mark and John (Mk 6:45-52 and Jn 6:15-21, respectively).

This Gospel reading depicts Jesus' Disciples being sent off ahead while He went to pray alone. By the evening, the boat, already offshore, was enduring unfavorable conditions; between three to six in the morning--the fourth watch of the night according to Roman scheduling schematics--Jesus appeared to His disciples, walking on water as He did so. Saint Peter seeks proof that it is Him and is commanded to walk toward Him; losing heart amid the unfavorable conditions, he sinks and is saved by Jesus, who rebukes him for his doubt before the two get on the boat to calmer conditions.

The lesson to look out for is to hold no doubt even in the face of sheer adversity.

Incidentally, today is the feast of St. Dominic de Guzman, founder of the Dominicans; the Gospel Reading for this memorial is Lk 9:57-62, where Jesus reminds those who wish to follow Him that to do so means there can be no turning back, that one must prepare to sacrifice everything.

Can't say I blame him; the Battle of Mindoro Museum in San Jose, where Allied forces made the amphibious landings, kept quite the records. The events that were recorded there...

Anyway, with Confederation Day coming up next week, things are becoming quite exciting.

@Ùna Bhioctoria MacRaghnaill Indeed, it's certainly a good recipe of success - even though succeeding to varying degrees ...

Innit? ^^

The Rise and Prominence of Christianity in the Seleucid Empire, Siùbhan MacCathain, noted. And yes, I can imagine, that the spread of a new faith with vastly different principles and teachings than the faiths prevailing was highly controversial at the time, to say the very least - after all, it can, and usually will, change the power structures within the Empire a lot, and certainly not everyone is particularly fond of it (as soon as time travel becomes a thing, you'll certainly be invited to ask around in medieval Lillorainen how popular the imagination of this possibly happening in here as well was at the time - beware of the swords and axes, though). But of course, other factors like the Treaty of Apamea, or dynasty crises (ask them Shamsiyyans ...) may play into this a lot.

Everyone I consider sane-minded would. Never mess with the Mangudai! :D Yet, it was different depending on where you were. The rulers of the Yue, known for their defiance, lost their heads pretty soon and were replaced by Sharulsi rulers, but have their own, domestic dynasty in power again nowadays. In other places, local elites submitted and pledged loyalty to the Khaganate, so they had chances to remain in power, even though with some altered administrative structure. In general, the Sharulsi liked playing the safe card when picking a ruler directly subject to the Khaganate, but other positions, like in administration or military, could well be held by locals. It was generally depending on how much resistance would have been expected in the particular area.

@Ùna Bhioctoria MacRaghnaill @Iderbayar Oronar (IdreeKhanHD) Hey guys! As somebody from a place where video games aren't really a thing, I'm curious to know what types of games you guys have, and if they're popular. In my country, computers are restricted to government, military and research use, so most people don't have a PC at home. Even for the few that do, most computers here are extremely basic (after all, they're considered tools not toys), so they wouldn't be powerful enough for anything more advanced than simple arcade games, like Snake and Tetris. And nearly all of them use a dial-up connection, so real-time multiplayer games are pretty much out of the question.

Software development is quite secretive, too. Most of it takes place behind closed doors, and program code is strictly guarded from outsiders, even for something simple like "Hello World". Back in the 1980s, when RINO (Rede da Informação Numérica para Ordenadores, Digital Information Network for Computers), our national intranet, was being developed, a volunteer tester leaked a beta version of the browser program to the public—source code and all. And from what I heard, a bunch of armed soldiers stormed that guy's house, interrogated him for hours, and took away his computer. Of course, all that happened many years ago, if the story's indeed true. Things could very well have changed by now. But then again, the government has always been concerned, about letting dangerous tools fall into unqualified hands.

@Lena Mesenich Yeah, it's definitely a benefit of living someplace, where less than 0,001 % of people own cars. In fact, the only time when you're likely to see many vehicles together at once, is during one of our many military parades and drills. Pro tip: if you hear marching music coming from a distance, it's best to get off the street immediately, if you don't want to become a pancake. ^^

But speaking of traffic nightmares, I can relate too. A few years ago, I spent Christmas and New Year in Spain, and I had the foolish idea to try taking a taxi back to my hotel during rush hour. And I can tell you, the traffic was like a scene from a disaster movie. Everybody was honking like mad, and there were quite a few fistfights and wrestling matches between drivers. Free entertainment, I guess. ^^ In the end, I decided to get out and walk, as I didn't want to spend hours going nowhere.

Rockies wins against Trinity in hockey tournament of SC's Megastates

As the NAHL season in SC's Megastates goes on, two neighbor teams met on the ice rink during playoffs. Only one would get further, but the fight for SC's Stanley Cup continues on...

''Boise, Trinity, United Megastates: Yesterday, the Rockies united hockey team during overtime defeated the Trinity's united hockey team with result of 3-2, thus winning the playoff stage with 3 victories and one loss. The yesterday's game was perhaps one of the most intense from the Rockies vs Trinity games because if Trinity would secure a win, it could still compete for the next stage of playoffs - after all, there is a reason why so many of hockey players from both teams earned two minute penalty, and fans in tribunes. Either way, the Coyotes had earned a ticket to the next stage and the fans of Rockies cheered, while Steelheads had to return to Idaho. However, the fight is not even close to being over, as there are still several teams left in NAHL like the Ontario's team or Caribbean team - although the last is quite new on NAHL's ground if compared to American and Canadian teams, it is still quite ambitious and has received a lot of training from hockey coaches which had spent time in SC's Megastates and SC's Canadian Republic (In reality a puppet region and one of SC's 14 Commonwealths). NAHL's events are closely followed by the other leagues of SC's world, especially considering that NAHL has funded the recovery of some of the teams.''

Image

''An ice hockey rink in former Colorado, Rockies. The flags of other SC's North American regions often appear as well.''

''The atmosphere in the ice rink overall gave a feeling of both agitation and excitement, with cheerleaders of teams performing before the start of the game and during breaks. Various sports songs like ''Let's get ready to rumble'' and ''We Will Rock You'' were often played in the speakers during the match. Either way, interest about it was certainly large and so was the revenue, as the ice rink's spectator seats were full, and a large amount of people watched the live translation of it in TV - from a flat screen TV in a bar to an old family's Direct-view TV. While sometimes things got heated between the fans of two teams, overall the game went on without any major incidents like violence between the fans, or even assault of a fan to one of the players.''

''The first period of the match wasn't full with action, as if the two teams would be warming up and saving energy for the intense fight to follow later on. No team scored a goal that round, although there were several dangerous episodes for both team goalkeepers, and one of the players from Rockies team received two minute penalty over slashing (swinging the hockey stick at opposing player or breaking their hockey stick with their own). After the first period teams switched places, and the game started to intensify at the second period. Hockey fans saw a lot more action both in the neutral zone and at the goals of both teams, and in 6th minute Matthew R. from Rockies team even managed to score a goal for Rockies team, although team of Trinity would score two goals themselves later on, with one of them being scored when someone from Rockies team had received two minute penalty, and the team wasn't full. Overall, several penalties were received during second round, and once it even got close to a brawl between players on field about not being pleased with referee's decision. In third period the game continued to be intense as the players were using their remaining energy reserves. At 9th minute, Colton J. from Rockies team scored an another goal, which made the team of Trinity to fight even harder to score at least one more point for the team. At the 18th minute, Trinity exchanged goalkeeper for sixth player on the field in an attempt to score a 3rd goal. Despite the risk of goal being empty, none of the teams managed to score an another goal, and the third round ended with a draw of 2-2. Although Overtime had only 5 minutes, atmosphere was intense both between the spectators and players, as it was the last chance to score a goal before shootouts (penalty shots). However, both teams held well, and only about 20 seconds of Overtime had left when Trinity's team finally cracked under pressure, and one of the Rockies players managed to throw the puck over the goalkeeper in the right corner of the goal net. Reactions to that were varied - one part of the tribune blew up in ovations of Rockies fans, while disappointment was seen in the faces of some of Trinity fans, but some were just watching the game with little emotion. Either way, after the game the regional anthem of Rockies ''Over there'' was played, and despite the tense atmosphere, the coaches and players of other teams still exchanged with handshakes. In a short interview with the coach of the Coyotes, the coach said that he ''admires the work which his men put in winning this crucial game, which is ultimately a victory for Rockies as a whole, bringing spotlight to this frontier region''.''

''Context: NAHL is short for ''North American Hockey League'' - a reorganized version of ''National Hockey League'' or NHL, which is considered as one of the strongest hockey league's in SC's world (With KHL, a.k.a ''Continental Hockey League'' as second, which was created in the late 2000s and had sunk with the Russian Empire as a whole after two superstate collapse, but was revived after the Scramble for the World, and now covers all of Europe). NHL was founded in Canada in somewhere of late 1910s, basically in pre-SC era, but reorganization of it took place in 90s, which added Mexico, Central America, and Caribbean, but restricted participation to two teams per region, making maximum amount of teams 38. AHL was merged with NAHL as it functioned like a support league for it anyways. However, most of the hockey teams got to stay and weren't merged, as they rather were named after a city instead of a region, and competition in sports is still encouraged in SC (In sports like soccer, American Football, baseball, etc). In NAHL's Stanley Cup tournament, two teams from each region would be selected by jury, and those two would play against each other in next stage. If there are few teams which meet the conditions of NAHL (In case of places like Greater North, Caribbean Federation, etc), a single team is automatically chosen for the next stage of the tournament, and then playoffs play in the same fashion as in NHL. At the time of the tournament, teams are referred to with the name of the region they represent, rather than team name (For example, ''Phoenix Coyotes'' would be ''Rockies Coyotes'', while ''Vancouver Sharks'' would be ''Northwest Sharks''. There are certain traditions and trends of NAHL's Stanley's Cup. Like with many sports in SC, SC's hockey in First World kind of gives a retro vibe, while in other regions hockey players use the equipment which is available and which hockey leagues can provide. SC's hockey in North America has women teams as well, and even Mixed hockey has found some influential proponents in hockey community (Collective name for hockey which encompasses both women and men in one team), but it is not showcased on the scale NAHL is, obviously.''

Other news:

''Robot ministers of Technocratic Siberia debate about the usage of dead prisoners for production of soil fertilizer''

''The SC's Hollywood ''Committee for film material from outside territories'' discovers a rare colored showreel from RNGOC's Japanese explorers in Antarctica before the period when continent was abandoned and other two superstates collapsed, finding said to be ''very valuable''.''

''A special regional academy founded in Rockies to deal with all matters of Deseret Alphabet, as the ''mormonization'' campaign of eastern parts enters new phase.''

''Written by Marie Beck, the reporter for SNN.''

If you ever come to the Free Lands, try to do so in spring or summer. In winter, we are buried under two meters and more of snow (here in Cuan, that is, Riverwood regularly gets seven to eight meters) and autumn is storm time. Spring is wonderful, though, especially the Spring Festivals.

Indeed, it was. At first, the Seleucids tolerated the faith and let it be practiced. However, when it became more prevalent and widespread, the Empire's government grew apprehensive. Different precepts, encouragement of proselyzation and the anti-polytheistic nature of the faith convinced the Empire it was bound to tear down the traditions and fundamental institutions of the realm itself. Conservative monarchs like Telemachus II, Seleucus XIII, Seleucus Athenadorus I and Athenadorus IV authorized the prohibition of its practice and legalizing pogroms and persecutions against those who refuse to conform to the laws. This would at times come into conflict with the Zoroastrians, who helped to hide them because of religious sympathy. Even though there were some monarchs that either rescinded such laws or lessen the effects of it, such as high taxes, the resonant anti-Christian attitude prevailed. It wasn't until Alexander IX Lathyros came into power after ousting the Athenadorics out of Seleucia to the east in the Palace Revolt of 320 and declared Christianity as the Empire's main religion. And this lead to the Empire to split apart into three pieces, and is the subject of the game we're intending to release. :) And I wouldn't imagine how I would result when asking such questions in medieval Lillorainen. :lol2:

Of course. This is similar to what was done in the Empire's conquest of the Nabateans and the ancient Yemenis. The Empire sought to appoint usually Greek, Persian, Egyptian, Central Asian or Anatolian governors to oversee the administration of such territories, but locals are appointed if loyalty is affirmed. Though, there was that colony at the tip of the Horn of Africa, which is an interesting story.

Good day to all people of PiffleNet. A state gift to me was apparently a "smartphone" and a private section of "modern internet". It's quite lovely, if you know what to avoid. Onto the subject matter, I am wonderously excited to announce the @GospelChurchOfCarytons' completion of its semi-yearly address to the people, "Heart-to-heart". It shall be published next Sunday and I assure you it will be a warming read. May we reflect on the lucky state of our nation, and its people. It prompts me to address you a scripture from Romans 8:31, saying: "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Friends, our presence in this world and our Lord's multiverse is a blessing for all. May we be ever grateful for technological advances such as these, that all of His children may commune in unity. #FirstPost #GospelChurchofCaryton #Caryton #Cary #Jesus

@Valência Conceição Oii! I would now be asking you to get a little more precise as to what types of games you mean, but seeing, that you're apparently from a place where, from our perspective, Information Technology is still used like it's 1990, there's probably too much to explain to you to on videogames in these parts in general, as the world of videogames is enormously huge, so I'll have to go for a more personal perspective on the matter.
Broadly spoken, there is a myriad of different games - there are ego-shooters, where you run around with a gun or rifle and shoot the living daylights out of your opponent(s), there are racing games (car races are the most common ones, but horse racing is also a thing, even though these tend to appeal to a very certain age group and gender), there are role play games or combat games or both combined, which are not always set in the real world and time, but can also be set in a historical setting or fantasy world; there are open-world games, some of which may allow one to get creative (the most well-known one being Minecraft, basically LEGO for adults, but there are also many games where you have to build up a civilization), and, my personal favorite, real-time strategy games (or RTS for short), where you have to build up a base and keeping it running while training military units and fight your enemies. (Now that I'm thinking about this, I'm wondering, that the Age of Empires series doesn't seem to be known over there, especially the second part, where, in a later add-on, the Portuguese were added as a civilization ...) There are many more genres, though.
As for popularity - videogames have gradually gained popularity over the last decades here in Lillorainen. They used to be much of a niche product for nerds back in the 1990s, but nowadays, we're far away from that. One can say, it's mainstream today, even though not everyone is into it.

@Ùna Bhioctoria MacRaghnaill @Oighrig Saabira MacFhlaithbheartaich @Yang Chung-ae (NoClipper8213) @Gang Seul-gi (Clytemnestra8612) ... aaaaand signed up. ^^ That's gonna be fun! :D

@Ùna Bhioctoria MacRaghnaill Yeah, this sounds suspiciously similar to what Lillorainian rulers back then were fearing, especially since in many places around these parts, the secularism we know of today wasn't really a thing; the Cults held significant political power in many city-states and rural territories, and with these structures we would call sort of theocratic nowadays, there was little to no interest to a religious change - different faiths were tolerated and respected, but proselytism was not (it's still unwelcome today, but nowadays, one only gets mocked and ridiculed for trying to do so, which is a way smaller gamble than it used to be 700 years back). The Sharulsi, on that matter, were tolerant of different faiths as well, even though religious matters weren't much of a deal, given that Mongolic and Turkic peoples followed the same faith anyway, and other faiths prevalent in the Empire, such as the Polytheism of the Yue, the Animism of the Hei He, or later, to a smaller degree, the Cult of the Four Souls, didn't have all too dissimilar precepts aside from small details varying. While Christianity didn't make it into those parts, at least not to a meaningful degree, they probably wouldn't have been very fond of proselytism and other vastly different precepts, either, so I'd bet, that many people in the Sharulsi Empire, regardless of ethnicity, were rooting and cheering for the Lillorainian and Selkie-Warriors defending their respective homelands against the Crusaders quite loudly back then. ^^

So it wasn't too dissimilar - good to know! It was surely complicated in either case, but not impossible - despite having overseas territories, apparently. ^^

@Valência Conceição Definitely sounds like that! And yeah, I'd surely not want to end up as a pancake - and since ceremonial marches are a thing in here as well, I'm quite experienced at avoiding this, no worries. ^^

Ouch ... okay, it isn't anywhere as horrible in here for most of the time, not even in heavily congested areas like the one I happen to live in, as we're said to be quite disciplined drivers in international comparison ... ^^

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)
