That's a plant. Not even in Lebanon.

The plant gives off a scent associated with the hippie culture of California. It really is quite lovely

If this thread becomes just "This is a conspiracy" -> "Is not" -> "Is so" again, then it's getting locked. If you can't have a real discussion, then stop posting.

There's no need to act like children, even if you legally are one.

I'm sorry if this is my fault, I'm not sure if you mean me or everyone.

Anyway, to get back on topic, this explosion has been ruining weddings!

I'm pretty sure the "culprit" is these welding workers as documented by photograph, though that means the real culprit is gross negligence on the warehouse's side. Anyways, this will likely be "Lebanon's Chernobyl" that significantly increases resentment against the establishment.

I'm still not sure how the ammonium nitrate was contaminated with oil though, since it requires 4%-5% of oil to become an explosive.

Given that most buildings in Beirut are damaged, they probably are too. This collection of photos of the damage shows that the parliament chamber is damaged (about half-way down) so it would be reasonable to conclude that whatever government building it's in is in bad shape.

Seems Lebanon does not have an OSHA office. The real fault is the people who let that fertilizer stay stored for six years. It should have been sold off or given no charge to farmers.

Considering that even the prime minister can't save himself from getting blown up by the equivalent of 1000 kg of explosives in 2005, and the general state of the country right now (budget crisis, civil disobedience...), working security enforcement seems to have a low priority.

No, oxidation of the ammonium nitrate and six years in a warehouse on a waterfront.

I'm not sure where people get this idea that it's only an explosive in mixtures, but ammonium nitrate will blow up all by itself. It's a relatively common accident.

Especially since it had been burning for some time before it exploded, which it has been known to do as well.

With all the political problems going on in the country, the Beirut explosion is a culmination of negligence, incompetence, and mismanagement by their government.

Explosive bomb making material was stock piled at a port in a country known for civil wars. Theres nothing remotely crazy about thinking it may have been there cause someone was using it to build bombs.

I wonder if the political ramifications of this could be a renewed civil war given the instability of the country. The government just advertised it's incompetence to the people in literally the loudest way possible.

Yeah some of the farmers had stolen some of the ammonium nitrate to use in their fields and the government didn't want that.
