Current RP Time: October 1st, 1936 - November 1st, 1936

The year is 1936, the Great War that was supposed to end in 1918 had turned into an eternal bloodbath of attrition lasting to this day. Bringing much of the world to ruin from both constant warfare and societal disrepair, becoming the most costly war in human existence, as well as its most threatening. Bringing many nations to near collapse. With unrestricted use of chemical weapons and biological agents created from weaponized Spanish Influenza having been used to kill off a fraction of the human population worldwide. Human civilization finds itself standing at the cusp of total annihilation, hanging on by mere delicate threads.

The Western Front has been bombed, shelled, and gassed to the stone age, devolving into an anarchic wasteland full of roving gangs and survivalist groups who cower in fear as Entente and Central Power bombers fly daily over their heads to keep No Man's Land barely habitual, and their enemies' infrastructure back home in constant disrepair.

The Russian Civil War has brought the country into multiple warring factions fighting endlessly for control over a husk of a former empire. The Stock Market Crash of 1925 has never been fully recovered, crippling the American Dream into becoming a living Jim Crow fashioned nightmare. Vorbeck's Brigades continues to wreak havoc in Sub-Saharan Africa into the modern day, turning the colonies back to their more tribalistic beginnings as authority from their European masters have broken down.

Hitler's NSDAP, Strasser's Freikorps, and the Spartacus League conspire to bring down Kaiser Wilhelm II's empire from within, as Germany's military industrial complex has finally reached the apex of rotting German society from within with civil war looming on the horizon. France and Great Britain as well deal with their own infighting and uprisings domestically, bringing tensions within the Entente to a boiling point of no return.

The world stands at the abyss, and the abyss is staring right back at it...

Rules:
    1. Follow NationStates' Site and Forum Rules as standard.
    2. OP And Co-Ops word is final.
    3. Do Not Godmode or metagame, if you have a disagreement with a player, discuss it civilly in the OOC. And if no resolution can be found consult Rule 2.
    4. Play fairly and within the realm of realism, it is recommended that if you plan to do war that you post a ORBAT (Order of Battle) for yourself and other players to reference.
    5. The Point of Divergence for this RP is 1914, any major changes to a nation before that are not strictly liable. Major changes afterwards have to keep to the theme of the RP.
    6. Given the nature of this RP and the time period it takes place in, OOC genocide and holocaust denial won't be tolerated. In saying that, values dissonance present in the IC won't be whitewash as long as it follows forum rules and that it is clearly coming from a character and not a player.
    7. Technologies in this RP mostly adhere to OTL dates, with the exception of chemical and biological weapon developments.
    8. Given the fragile nature of the world, constant warring might do the exact opposite in stabilizing a nation, and with some countries expect to play out a civil war or revolt which other players being allowed to participate in as opposing sides.
    9. And despite the grim nature of the RP, most importantly remember that this is a forum game and have fun!

Daily Gazette

What’s Happening in Your Part of the Eastern Front.
Alexander Kerensky was given an interview by the Daily Gazette in his office in Arkhangelsk today, being one of the last internationally recognized holdouts of the Russian Provisional Government that still lay claim to a part of European Russia, despite the supremacy of the Soviet Union and Tsarist holdouts.

“Frankly Mr. Conway, I represent a nation of people that are deeply divided and in desperate need of democratic consolidation. Despite their convictions I still maintain that the Russian Republic stands in spite of the chaos we currently faced today throughout our country.”
Kerensky persists.

“We will continue to stand against Stalin’s tyrannical clique no matter the odds!” Kerensky heavily implored. “The anarchy our nation faces will be overcome and drifted towards a better future for tomorrow for Russia!” He loudly proclaimed over international radio comms throughout many channels in the world.

Meanwhile in the States.
President Al Smith fails to get more promising voters in the Deep South.
Despite it being an election year, President Al Smith has once again failed to get more favoring Electoral votes to campaign over “wet” policy with reversing prohibition from Woodrow Wilson’s original plan with the Temperance Movement from 1920 on.

"We will sequester these radicals!" He declared, while not offering much in the way of heavy solutions. "The Democratic Party and the Republican Party will rise to the occasion and maintain the Republic at all costs!" Al Smith declared in mere spite of the American First Party and the growing influence of the Communist Party.

The Kremlin
Moscow, USSR

It was an especially cold winter. From the public loudspreakers played the Varshavianka as some cars drove along the icy roads of Moscow. But among the cars stood out a black Packard 12 that was acompanied by two GAZ-M1s. The three cars raced along the mostly desolated Moscow streets and drove up the Kremlin.

As the car reached the Kremlin gates the two on-duty guards snapped to atention and saluted the vehicle as it zoomed into the Kremlin and then parked infront of the building housing the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. And the out came Kliment Voroshilov who saluted some of the guards before entering the building.

Voroshilov was lead up to the room where Stalin and the Soviet High Comand where located. As he entered the room he saluted them all and then took a seat. Heading the meeting was obviously Stalin, but also Tukachevsky. After Voroshilov had taken a seat, Stalin spoke.

"Comrade Marshals of the USSR, the reason we've convened here is clear. We must defeat all anti-revolutionary elements one and for all. The fool Kerensky is in Arkhangelsk and he badmouthed us today on the radio. We must prove our power once and for all. We must take the much worn and destroyed pieces of the Russian Empire and put them back together under Soviet rule." Stalin said calmly, but his anger was clear.

"Comrade Stalin, may I present my plan?" Voroshilov asked Stalin who noded yes. "It is apparent to me that our first goal is to take what remains of Ukraine and Belarus after the Brest-Litovsk Treaty. This should be a neasy task thanks to the relatively flat terrain. But as we invade, we must follow with construction crews to rebuilt the destroyed infrastructure. The first push will go towards Kiev and Minsk. Next would be a push in Belarus to take out any oposition while in Ukraine a push into the Donetsk along with a push to Odessa would be the next logical step."

"And I assume we'll be using our superior mechanization to acheive such swift advances?" Tukachevsky interupted Voroshilov.

"Yes." Voroshilov replied before continuing with his explination. "After Ukraine and Belarus are in our hands, we must push into the Northern Caucasus. We will take Rostov-on-Don, Novorossisysk and finaly Sochi on the Black Sea. But whatever we do, we must no touch Crimea yet. Meanwhile on the Caspian Sea Front the push would be all the way to the Azerbaijani border. Once there the troops will stop. Then, we march into the mountains to take Chechnya. All this should take six months at most to acheive."

"Bravo Comrade Voroshilov!" Stalin clapped.

"Respectfully Comrade Stalin, after that, the Caucasus would be the next place to retake as well as a push towards the Urals." Voroshilov added in.

"Kliment, I will command the taking of Georgia myself." Stalin told Voroshilov.

"And how long would we need to mass forces and resources for this invassion?" Inquired Tukachevsky.

"Four months maximum." Voroshilov answered.

"Very well! I request that in four months this opperation begins." Stalin ordered.

"Yes Comrade Stalin." Everyone in the room replied.

"And Comrade Stalin, I would like to request the production of industrial equiptment to requip the retaken areas as to help them rebuild. And while the seizing of the land from the Kulaks will likely proceed well, the Red Army needs more equiptment, and cone Ukraine, the Don Bassin, and the Southern Caucasus are retaken rebuilding the Black Sea Fleet will also become a priority. So we must gear up for that." Tukachevsky told Stalin.

"Of course. But the top priority is restoring agricultural capacity to the land as to reduce the number of famines we experience. But rest assured that that our factories will produce equiptment to rebuild the newly aquired lands." Stalin told Tukachevsky a bit coldly before saying: "All of you are dissmissed. Begin preparations immediately and ready the Red Army and Red Air Force. Meanhwile, I want out capacity tested by taking marching on Kazan and Izhvenk. This will be a trial run for our greater plans. I want Izhvenk and Kazan in Soviet hands in two months from today."

"Yes Comrade Stalin." Everyone in the room said before leaving save for Voroshilov and Tukachevsky as well as Stalin.

"You know how much this means to me." Stalin said a bit less stoically.

"Yes Comrade Stalin." Both of them said.

"Georgia can wait. Take the important parts first. I will personaly take Georgia." Stalin stated.

"Yes Comrade Stalin." They both replied.

"Dismissed." Stalin ordered as they both then left.

Stalin's Speech In Response To Kerensky

Comrades of the world. It was today that Kerensky expressed the fact that he whished to overcome the USSR. Something he has tried and failed to do many times! And if that wasn't sufficient, he claimed that democracy under him was they way foward! It is clear that Kerensky does nothing but slander and lie.

He rules his country in anarchy, and barely is clining on to a frozen northern city. He claims to be able to take on the might of the USSR, but no faction in this petty civil war can even do so without getting destroyed by the Red Army. Instead of listening to Kerensky's lies, fight for the truth, and join the fight on the side of the USSR.

While the past fourteen years have been tought, it is time for the Soviet Union to show the world that it too can acheive greatness. No other faction has an air force like the Red Air Force, no faction has an army like the Red Army, and no faction has a will like that of the Soviet people. Every last centimeter of Russian land will be Soviet land. And with Soviet rule will come prosperity! Education for all, work for all, peace for all, and safety for all.

No longer will wars rage in our streets, and no longer will shall people suffer under Soviet rule. In the last fourteen years, the USSR has become the most stable nation in all of the Russian lands, and will remain so. And if you want prosperity, if you want peace, if you want safety, and if you want a better life for your family, aid the Soviet Union in unifying all the Russian lands to bring an end to the bloody conflict that has scared Russia for far to long.

The world outside may have continued to burn, but in the small yet tastefully-decorated cafe in a poorly-known crook of Kanslergade, on the north side of Copenhagen, there was quiet and there was tea and coffee. The radio continued to blare, relaying the latest and ever-more-apocalyptic news from the Western Front, from the Russian Civil War, from the American Great Depression, but for the men and women sitting around reading their morning newspapers or listening to the morning radio broadcasts with a cup of something warm in hand, none of it felt quite real.

"And so the Russian Civil War takes yet another bloody turn," remarked an unassuming man in plain beige clothes. There was something about his eyes that sparkled, despite his advanced age - all sixty-two years of it. The charisma and determination, perhaps, that carried him from being a humble cigarette worker to the highest office in the land.

Thorvald Stauning, State Minister of the Commonwealth.

"So it does," replied another stoic figure. Unlike the State Minister, the man sitting on the other side of the table was not a regular at the cafe. He had come merely to discuss current affairs... and also meet an old friend. John Andersson, more than a decade younger than State Minister Stauning, held the lofty title of General Secretary of the SAC Syndikalisterna - the Central Organisation of Scandinavian Labour.

With the Northern state and Stauning's National Unity Government both fraying at the seams, both men knew perfectly well that when the inevitable split came, they would find themselves on opposing sides of it. Stauning led the so-called "conservatives", firm in the belief that the Kanslergadeforliget was ultimately right, that it was the correct path towards a free and socialist Norden of the future. Andersson, on the other hand, was a key member of the rapidly-rising "internationalist" faction. Revolution at home could not continue, Andersson thought, until there was revolution everywhere.

But that was no reason not to sit down over a cup of hot tea. For old time's sake, if nothing else.

It was quite the marked contrast, across the short border something like halfway between Viipuri and Leningrad. On the northwestern side stood the NSRS, which was entering a new and golden age of socialism after two decades of steadfastedly staying out of the Continental bloodbath, and on the other side stood the CCCP, which... pretty much was the Continental bloodbath.

After two decades of total war mobilisation, it was frankly impressive that the Russians still had an economy worth talking about, and there was a running pool at SAC headquarters on how long that might continue before the inherent contradictions of the Soviet - and, more generally, Russian - economy finally brings that house of cards down.

It perhaps came as a surprise to many outside observers that the NSRS, the only major socialist state in Western Europe, had such a disdainful opinion towards the Soviets, the only major socialist state in Eastern Europe. But... well... Nattssocialisterna, the saying went. The Night Socialists. A country shrouded in so much security and so much control on information with so little trade and so little migration of peoples with the outside world that to peer into the Soviet state was like peering into the darkest depths of night. Even for a fellow revolutionary state it was hard to understand.

There was little need to actually talk, when discussing Russia. Both men already understood each other perfectly. They have already had hundreds of such discussions, and the differences between them were already markedly clear. Stauning was aghast at Andersson's insistence on abandoning their neutral foreign policy that has served so well for so long and drawing the ire of much larger neighbours whereas Andersson couldn't at all understand why Stauning could not see the horrifying threat that rising totalitarianism in Russia was. So far, the conservatives have had the upper hand in the Department of Foreign Affairs - mostly because while the internationalists and the reformists both agreed that something had to be done, it was unclear what - but that might not be a state of affairs that lasted very long.

New elections to the Council, after all, would be happening this April.

Huey Long speaking to the Virginia State legislators

Senator and Presidential Candidate Huey Long is perhaps one of the most dangerous men in the country. His firebrand oratory makes him a demagogue. Do not be fooled by his promise fo wealth and renewal of the country. The man has abused his position of power during his term as Senator of Lousiana bribing legislators and turn elections into a political machine. Now with the Dixiecrats under his belt, he has turned whole Deep South into his personal dictatorship. The man will ruin our democracy, our republic, and any attempt to get out of this Depression. For the security of our freedom, vote for Al Smith. We can survive four more years of his presidency, we won't survive four weeks under Long's.

Image

"Vote for Al Smith?" Huey Long roared at his audience gathered at his campaign rally in Richmond, Virginia. "Who would do such a thing?"

"The President, throughout his term, failed to provide the American people a way out of this economic crisis that struck us since 1925. Let me remind you, ladies and gentlemen, that that event was 11 years ago! Do you want your children to grow up poor and destitute with the American wealth being a faded memory?

I'd say no! NO! NO! NO! I'm not the indecisive strawman like Al Smith nor the dictator the media paints me to be! Every man will be a King with me as President. The Share Our Wealth program worked in Louisiana. It worked in Alabama, Texas, and Arkansas. If it worked in those states, is there any reason why it shouldn't nationwide?"

A thunderous roar of applause and cheers erupted from the crowd as Huey Long paused to be immersed with his audience. Thank God that he chose to confiscate Confederate Flags that appeared in his rally. The Lord knows that the media will turn him into a 2nd Jefferson Davis as soon as one Dixie flag pops up.

"Does anyone not see what the President was doing this time? Of all times Al Smith chose to end Prohibition, he chose now to do it. The man wants us to all get drunk before the election so he can win the election with our wits on the end! Well, I'll say this to President Smith: We're getting drunk today and vote sober tomorrow!"

MOSLEY ISSUES THE PEOPLE'S DEMANDS!

As Westminster gathers for yet another day of unending cowardice, they will awaken to news that will shock their delicate sensibilities this foggy London morning. The Liberationists, the true party of British loyalists, have made our goals clear. A list of demands have been put forth by the General Secretary, Oswald Mosley, which will no doubt make the lives of ordinary people infinitely better if followed both technically and in spirit. Luckily for the government, they won’t even have to think about it for a long time. Comrade Mosley has given them a time limit. Something the Conservative and Unionist Party no doubt needs, considering the never-ending war they have yet to call time for.

This paper believes no one is better suited to deliver these demands than our great General Secretary himself. Here is what our reporters at the scene heard this morning, the very speech that will go over the airwaves this afternoon come the BBC news bulletins.

Image

“My dear Comrades! My dear friends! Men, women, brothers, sisters all over the country, hear me now!

The braggards in Westminster demand that we roll over once more. I received a letter this very morning from Mr Atlee himself, begging our party to join with his carcass of a parliamentary group! The audacity of this demand, and the audacity of the government in which Mr Atlee serves is what has brought me here this very morning. We were all willing to give the government one more chance to do right by the people. Our great victories at the last election would no doubt spur them on to finally do some good. Yet nothing has come!

Nothing at all!

They refuse to acknowledge us. They refuse to acknowledge YOU! Not one clear bill has come before the parliament that would even come close to righting the wrongs of our sick society.

On the contrary, they have just passed yet another military orientated budget! They still seek war.

If that is what the government wishes, then I have no choice. No choice at all other than to force their hands. I can not wait as thousands more go to their deaths on the continent. As the workers are forced into death factories even as their pension goes up in flames like the cities the Zeppelins hover over come the night.

Here are the people's demands!

1. The immediate end to the WAR OF IMPERIALISM. This point is self-explanatory, and the merits of which are so blatantly obvious I have no need to repeat them now.

2. A referendum on the abolishment of the Imperial family. A vote. A simple and legitimate vote for the people on this matter. The butchers of Europe, along with their cousins on shores foreign, have done nothing as millions die on their watch. It is about time the people had a say in their tyrannical existence.

3. Guaranteed Ministerial positions for true workers, along with the absolute abolishment of the royal oath to take one's seat in parliament. We will swear no allegiance to any monarch, yet because of this choice the people have no voice in parliament. This must be changed. The end of the oath, and Ministerial positions, will allow the people to have true representations.

4. The complete nationalisation of all sectors of industry. Once again, such an obvious point that this need not be elaborated on. Monopoly and for-profit war hawks must not be tolerated.

5. Finally, a GENERAL ELECTION. Once the previous four points have been satisfied, the government must take its confidence back to the British people. What are they afraid of?

And there it is, my comrades. A small, but critical list. A simple start for true change.

The government has one month. One whole month to introduce this legislation. If by that month nothing has changed? We will have no choice but to take to the streets in whatever form we feel necessary.

I thank you all, and as always, the WORKERS PREVAIL!”

We here hope that the government takes these demands seriously. If they don’t, may god help them all.

Stalingrad

The darkness of winter and temperatures well below freezing had engulphed the city. But several hundred kilometers away as a buildup of forces like none ever seen before in the Russian Civil War. 350.000 troops, 900 artillery pieces, 500 tanks, 350 armored cars, 150 bombers, 150 ground attack aircraft, and 150 fighter aircraft massed on the border of Rostov Province.

Despite the bitter cold, the dark of night and snow fluries where optimal to massing a large military and hiding it. Comanding this front would be Voroshilov. And the invassion was to begin once an order was given by Moscow. Now while the weather was optimal at the moment, Voroshilov and everyone else on the Soviet side hoepd it would hold, because clear weather would mean scout planes would be able to spot the whole massed army. And while AA guns might shoot down some planes, the risk of any invasion being leaked to one of the USSR's enemies would be catastrophic.

So as the night drew on, trucks with supplies drove up, tanks and armored carse where tested to make sure all systems where working, aircraft where given last minute maitenance as Soviet pilots where debreifed on the missions at hand, and armored trains rattled along tracks to their staging points. Frankly, the Soviets had no idea what to expect when they invaded. But what they did know was that Cossaks where fierce warriors. Yet this time the Soviets had tanks and planes, two things the Cossaks where believed to lack entirely.

Vladimir Oblast

It was just as cold in Valdimir. Snow has piled over half a meter high. Meanwhile Tukachevsky watched as 150.000 troops, 300 artillery pieces, 300 tanks, 150 armored cars, 150 bombers, 150 ground attack aircraft, and 75 fighter planes all readied themselves. Tukachevsky was to push east into Nizhny Novgorod, then Mari-El, Chuvashia, Kirov, Urdmutia, and Tartarstan. But unlike Voroshilov, Tukachevsky didn't have to worry about some suprise foreign intervetion. He was simply retaking what was rightfully Russia's in the name of the USSR, Comrade Lenin, and Comrade Stalin.

Frankfurt, Germany
Storm Detachment Security Zone

Life was a constant paranoia in the city, which has effectivley become a state in it's own right. The banner of Rhom's forces now hung over the city government building and brownshirts roamed the streets on a twenty four hour watch. The city had been fortified by the brownshirt militias and was under constant harassment, sometimes an allied bomber would breach the western front and alarms would sound, other times skirmishes would form from the loyalists hoping to dislodge Rhom from his roost. Still, they held against the line, Rhom had begun a recruitment campaign, offering shelter to soldiers and civilians alike caught in the warzones that surrounded the area. What he offered, security and a sense of peace instead of constant shelling or bombings, what he expected was utmost loyalty. A new order was forming and Hitler had underestimated his new rival. His face suffered a few shrapnel scars and his left hand hadn't quite felt the same from the attempting bombing at his home.

From that day he vowed to destroy Hitler and reshape the nation, Rhom dreamed of a martial state, Greater Teutoburg, a reference to the great battle of Germania against the Romans. This new order would be one of strong men and stronger bonds. Rhom looked to the past, at the sacking of Rome, the Spartan warriors of Greece, as he contemplated. Peace was boring, he almost found comfort being in this hostile environment, it kept him feeling alive.

Hitlerist attire was purged from the ranks, the swatztika replaced by the SD symbol, brown overtook black as the primary colors, even the helmet were repainted to suit this. Uniform appearance was considered still important, Rhom's army was always appearing stronger than it actually was, cleaner, sharper. Unfortunatley nice uniforms might not be enough to trick the powers that be. They needed to find an opening and to pounce...

The Reichstag
Berlin, German Empire

Philipp Scheidemann felt ill. It seemed every day unfolded into another crisis, another strike, another riot that required as much military elements at the home front as it did at the actual front itself. Wilhelm II hadn't been seen in awhile now, not since the Spanish Flu had hit Germany in 1918 and then later in a second wave at 1930. By now, he wasn't even certain if the Kaiser had died and another had been appointed in his stead or not. Most of the Imperial Family had been relegated under guard to Königsberg Castle - likely to get as far away as possible from the madness that was the 'Great War'.

There was nothing 'great' about this bloodbath that was going on, nor did he suspect it was a 'war' at all anymore. At first, there had been the youthful energy of defeating thy enemy and achieving glory and success. Then the offensives stalled against weaponry that both sides had been hiding and unleashed, mowing down men and boys by the thousands and then millions. Artillery shelling had become common enough to bombard an entire section of land into rubble and dust on a constant and daily basis.

Nor was it 'fair or just' to send boys into the wars of old men - as the common slogan was among the radical youth, whom sometimes fought almost tooth and nail against the thought of being sent into the hellhole that was the Western Front. Trust in the government, in the Kaiser, in the Empire was collapsing like a sandcastle in the sand - each wave pounding against what had once been a beautiful sight. Friedrich Ebert had held hope, when they had been invited into the 1918 government lead by Prince Baden. In some ways, Philipp wondered if they had saved the Empire then or just prolonged their own suffering.

The Second Battle of Jutland had calmed some fears and anti-war protests - it wouldn't do to appear disloyal and cowardly, when the brave men of the Imperial Navy had just restored the lifeline needed to sustain the Empire. Granted he had gone and visit the sailors after the fighting - and he had seen in their eyes; an inch more and things may have gone much differently for Germany in that moment. Granted, while starvation by blockade had been averted - other issues began to still crop up. The collapse of the Russian Empire had been a boon, although that boon had been rather quickly squandered by the fools that he saw in Hindenburg and his deputy, Ludendorff - by now they were ignoring most of anything that came from the Reichstag and merely telling the 'suits' to keep the people in-line until they achieved victory. That same excuse had been used nearly ten years ago and still no end was in sight - whenever things escalated beyond their control, the 'help' they sent merely snuffed out the flames but did nothing to diminish the larger and larger pile of embers burning under the Empire.

At the rate things were going, he would be surprised if the Empire survived another year...and ironic as it sounded...he truly hoped that Hindenburg had SOME way to winning or out-living the Entente at least. Cause after everything that had been done and some more - defeat seemed as much suicide for the Empire as a potential victory itself.

The Death of King George V!!!

The United Kingdom and much of the world abroad remains shocked and in a state of mourning on Tuesday as it was announced earlier today that the ruling monarch of the British Throne, King George V has just passed away the night before after reportedly years of suffering from declining health and stress contributed by the prolonging of the Great War. After reaching a point of no return with his physical aliments the King had requested a euthanasia by lethal injection on the night of his death.

Conservative and Unionist Party leaders, Neville Chamberlain, and Clement Attlee, plan to rally together at the state funeral processions later this week. Which political analysts have argued to have been a deliberate unified stance from the two against up and comer Oswald Mosley from the Liberationists movement. Who had earlier this month gave an ultimatum to the Westminster to fulfill a manifesto styled list of demands.

Clement Attlee reportedly refused to make any further comments after having failed to appeased to Oswald's movement prior to the announcement. And Neville Chamberlain has continued to refuse to budge even an inch regarding his earlier, more negative, convictions with the Liberationists.

However regardless on these Parliamentary debacles, the question still remains however within the United Kingdom and the remains of her Commonwealth abroad on whether the newly crowned King Edward VIII is up to the task of keeping the empire together for much longer.

Kerensky's Red Telephone
Arkhangelsk, Russian Provisional Government

Given the state of his country, Kerensky admittedly didn't have much to work with, with Russia having been both deeply divided up into warlord and bandit cliques, and a good amount of places didn't even have that kind of authority to speak of. Stable leadership was seemingly a luxury in many parts of Russia, though with Stalin making more movements as of late, Kerensky ironically was starting to fear the opposite.

The Provisional Government had anticipated this eventuality for awhile, ever since Stalin had assumed control of the Bolsheviks in the 20's when Lenin died. However Kerensky couldn't have predicted the level of which the self-declared Soviet Union could've managed to organized themselves in such a short amount of time following the peak of chaos caused by the Civil War. So around a year ago him and his diplomatic envoys had arranged to set up a collaborative private telephone alert system of sorts with friendly warlord states around the Soviet Union's borders that could potentially warn of upcoming army build up and movements.

Though despite the optimistic initiative however to contain the Soviet Union, a lot of the Red Telephone System remained in either no use of all, or was simply repurposed and scraped by some more self-centered warlord personalities, proving largely to be a waste to the Kerensky Administration.

However on a fateful day Kerensky finally received a call on his Red Telephone from Tatarstan's own Sadri Maksudi Arsal.

"Hello? Is this thing working?" Arsal's voice came alive on the speaker to Kerensky's phone system in his office.

"Yes I read you! This is President Kerensky of the Provisional Government, who am I speaking with?" Kerensky then hurriedly grabbed the phone while he had been sitting in his office, having been both startled and pleasantly surprised by the sudden activity from his promised phone system.

"This is President Arsal of Tatarstan, Mr. Kerensky. This is urgent for the Volga region, my scouts have just reported in that large troop columns of Soviet troops are amassing over at the Vladimir border which in all likelihoods are preparing to attack the region. I can't say much about my neighbors to the west however, but I am going to be in need of support in order to have a chance to fend off an impending Soviet attack on the Tatar people." Arsal spoke, obviously having run out of options himself if he's coming to Kerensky with this dire information.

"I see, we'll do what we can for your people, especially if it can prove to be a setback for Stalin, but for now prepare to stand your ground as much as you can with what you got. I'll try to arrange some shipments of materials and volunteers to help in your defense in the meantime against the Bolsheviks." Kerensky relayed back to the Tatar leader, himself not having much faith that the effort would ultimately matter, but it was surely better than nothing!

"Understood, Mr. Kerensky. We hope to continue to convseretion soon." The call then ended.

Fixed Link!
Legacy of the Kanslergade Agreement

In the end, the final breakdown of Stauning’s National Unity Government came over the issue of budget allocations. The Labour Council of the Northern Construction Syndicate put down a proposal for a massive system of bridges spanning the Great Belt and the Sound, which would finally create a rail and road connection between Scania and Jylland via the Danish islands. The prospects of riding a train from Lolland to Lund or driving from Roskilde to Ribe seemed, perhaps for the first time in history, within reach.

The reformists jumped at the idea. Here, truly, was Transformation of Nature, the triumph of Science for the benefit of humanity. The Commonwealth would move towards the future - and compared to that what was a small price of two-thirds of a billion kroner? It would advance engineering and industry, it would build future prosperity... precisely the thing to advance the spirit of Kanslergadeforliget into the late 1930s.

The conservatives were somewhat more skeptical. Spending such extravagant expenses in the heartland of Scandinavia where, frankly, it was not necessary when there were still people in the frontier regions living in poverty and in need of development was, they felt, contrary to the spirit of Northern socialism. Biggest problems first, the conservatives argued, then proposals for big experimental projects could be revisited at a later date.

The internationalists, on the other hand, was absolutely incensed at the idea. Before anything else, they felt, the Commonwealth had to defend itself. The situation in Germany and the United Kingdom did not, to say the least, look good. If order broke down and Norden’s neighbours fell into civil war, the prospects of it spilling over into Scandinavia was not out of the question. Sure, the NSRS Navy was large and powerful - but compared to the Royal Navy, the ruler of the seven seas? If that fell in the wrong hands then Scandinavia’s coastlines lay open.

With two thirds of the Council skeptical or opposed, and nobody except the Council capable of mobilising funds on the scales required for the project, after much controversy the idea of the Danish Fixed Link died a noisy death.

With the internationalists announcing that they believed the National Unity Government’s policies to be deleterious to Northern freedom, socialism, and independence, and that they thus intended to withdraw from the coalition following the April elections, Stauning’s government unity seems, after eleven years of an increasingly tenuous existence, to be at an end.

"Jesus Christ, Huey, look at this!" Earl Long bursts into his brother's office carrying several posters and a toy to show into his face. "How did you get Mr. Walt Disney on our side?"
Image

Huey Long laughed as he set aside the hundreds of letters he received from his loyal fanbase today. "Mr. Disney and I had a lot of views in common: he's a Christian Conservative and anti-communist. Even an entrepreneur like him understands in preventing Capitalism from devouring itself. It's only natural we joined together."

Earl only looked down at the Mickey Mouse toy in disbelief, piecing together the campaign value the little mouse has for his brother. "Aw Heck, the kids are gonna love this little guy."

"Exactly brother," Huey smiled triumphantly, "Keep an ear out on the theatres and radios for Disney. He's gonna bring awareness of the success of my "Share Our Wealth" program in a couple weeks. You'll probably be impressed."

Earl was impressed. As soon as he saw the latest Disney film, his jaw hit the floor when Mickey Mouse showed up. The mastery of the animation and visuals was an instant hook to children and parents alike. Minutemen Mickey and his loyal dog, Pluto working together to help his friends recover from the Great Depression. Through the "Share Our Wealth" strategy, Mickey successfully saved his friends Farmer Goofy, Worker Donald Duck, and Businessman Pete from destitute and the lies of communism and brought them into a new era of prosperity. And the end of the film, Mickey Mouse reunited with his love, Minnie Mouse, and they live happily ever after in the New America.

Pretty soon, Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse was a household name in the Deep South. Every southerner kid wanted a Mickey Mouse toy, every parent wanted to get their children a Mickey Mouse toy and even the KKK sat together to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Combining Huey's oratory skills and Disney's brand, the capaign to presidency never got easier till now. Earl never consdiered the idea of his older brother showing up in a Disney film until he saw a cartoon character of Huey speaking to the titular Mouse. Apparantly, Huey took the time to record some speeches in the studio as his name popped up in the credits roll.

General MacArthur stands over a balcony overlooking Salt Lake City.
February, 1936

February 9th, 1936

Utah Governor's Mansion, now property of General MacArthur
General MacArthur has spent most of the week doing paperwork and giving commands to his subordinates both at his desk, and over the radio. He occasionally listened to his personal radio, mostly news about the endless Western Front and politics in America. He knew Al Smith was weak. He knew that if America collapsed, it would be his job to restore law and order to the country. He had already proven himself through crushing the Mormonist Rebellion. But those damn Mormons just never give up. He knows that if anyone outside of the Army or Executive Branch found out about Green River, there would be chaos in America.

It was 7 PM, during Military curfew. The army was sweeping the streets for curfew violators. Anyone found violating curfew would be arrested. Suddenly, two distressed military officers rushed into MacArthur's quarters. "What is the meaning of this unauthorized intrusion, men!" MacArthur shouted. "We apologize sir, something horrible has happened in Las Vegas." Replied one of the officers. "Las Vegas?" replied MacArthur "Explain yourselves!" "Several bombings have occurred in Las Vegas sir, 2 police stations and several hotels are severely damaged" replied an officer. MacArthur asked: "Are there any suspects?" To which the officers replied: "Two suspects are in custody. Both suspects have been confirmed to be card carrying members of the Communist Party." "The Communist Party?" MacArthur replied. "Dear God!" "Any word of casualties yet?" asked MacArthur, to which one of the officers replied: "13 people have been confirmed dead, 78 are injured. Police officers have contained the issue and the Nevada National Guard is on standby." "Excellent" replied MacArthur. "You may leave now." "Yes sir!" replied the officers as they left the room. "Jesus Christ" said MacArthur. "Is everyone in this world going insane?" sighs MacArthur. "First it's the Mormons, now it's the Communists." "The President is gonna be pissed."

Stalingrad

"Tactically reposition?!" Voroshilov roared. "The march south is being delayed as to instead march east!"

"If it's any consolation, that will allow us to hopefully reach Svedlovsk and Chelyabinsk much quiker than just poor Tukachevsky fighting on his own." Said Dimitry Pavlov---a Army General---in a calm tone.

"And the fact is that 150,000 troops will stay here." Chimed in Ivan Yefimovich Petrov---also an Army General---in an equally calm tone.

"Fine!" Voroshilov said with a hiss. "Send the 300,000 troops on their way. I'll go with them."

"Yes sir." Both generals replied.

Nizhny Novgorod

Tanks pushed along the main highway to Nizhny Novgorod. It was one of the few paved highways outside of the USSR and it was beneficial to Tukachevsky as it allowed the use of trucks as well as tanks. About 10km away was Nizhny Novogord itself.

On the push along the highway, practically no resistance had been seen. Of the various villages the troops had one through, there had never been shots fired, and the rule of the Soviets had been accepted relatively peacefully. But this only made Tukachevsky and the troops more concerned. For all they knew, this could be an elaborate trap to take the Red Army out. And if it was a trap, it was a pretty good one too.

At the 10km mark the column halted. There Tukachevsky ordered a small detachment to march closer to the city to scout out the stae of Nizhny Novgorod, and if possible, even atempt to enter the city to issue and ultimatum of either having the province of Nizhny Novogord join the USSR, or have the province face certain destruction.

And at the same time, soldiers played nervously with their weapons, loading and unloading them, smoking, and even pulling out instruments to play. Mostly this was to pass the time, but it was also to take their nerves off the fact that they where ripe targets for an ambush.

Later that Night, February 9th, 1936
The White House

After receiving double confirmation from his Secretary about the string of bombings in Las Vegas and the causality report, President Al Smith could only gripped his hands into balled up fists on his desk in the Oval Office as the dreadful news proven true, his growing frustration being quite visible. Not only as a combination of continued stress contributed by the slow societal nose dive America has been currently going through for years, which was only compounded by the fact that it was an election year of all times. But he had really been hoping to call it in tonight and see his wife Katie, that isn't an option now.

"The hell is MacArthur running over there!" He then released his fists and smacked his desk in anger, before then standing up to get a bottle of liquor from a cabinet across the room. "The newspapers are going to rail me tomorrow when they get the presses going and their ink wet! I'm already doing badly enough in the polls, with Long and Browder on my ass, and you can bet Knox and his GOP is going to love this as it proves I wasn't as good as alternative to Hoover!" Reaching his cabinet he took out a bottle of whiskey and a glass, pouring straight into it and drinking two... No three! shots worth of whiskey straight up, before pouring himself yet another glass.

His Secretary in the room tried to keep his President somewhat calm and collective despite the circumstances, "Sir, if you do recall there were findings that the perpetrators were from the Communist Party, and that they are in custody at this moment."

"Hmph," Relaxing himself only slightly more now that he had a drink, Smith had gone back to his desk to get to his telephone to personally call MacArthur. "Watch Browder deny any involvement on his part, the commie son of a bitch." He then told his secretary before dialing up his General on the rotary.

"MacArthur what the hell is the meaning for what happened in Las Vegas!" His rage seemingly seething through the phone. "It's enough I had to put down the Mormons, but now I got commies in Nevada bombing police stations and hotels? I need you to send a detachment right away to the city, and bring the perpetrators under your direct custody and bring them in for interrogation before someone takes them out and claimed they offed themselves."

"And I don't care whose shoes you step on to ensure the peace out West, I just care that you are fast and efficient, before some yahoo named Chimichanga starts another insurrection. Now do I make myself clear, General?" He gripped at the phone, only now realizing he was gonna have to make multiple calls now after this one, which at the end he could mutter in annoyance at the mere idea.

The Nation of Islam

Image
Address of the Honourable Elijah Muhammad
Temple No. 1
Detroit, Michigan

The crowds had gathered in droves. Men, women and children alike, African Americans and mixed-race all; and most of them urban poor, working class or unemployed from the slums of Motor City. Impoverished, exploited and in many cases heavily discriminated and under constant risk of harrassment and even violence from white supremacist gangs and their protectors in the US law enforcement, many of them had found a listening ear and encouraging words in the lectures of Elijah Muhammad.

Elijah Muhammad, the charismatic person standing on the stage in front of hundreds of onlookers, was about to address the Nation. A man directly groomed and educated by the founder of the Nation, Master Fard Muhammad himself.

Master Fard Muhammad, an enigmatic figure whose origins, age and even the reason behind his sudden disappearance in 1934 were mysterious, and likely only known to those closest to him. What mattered is who he was, and what his message entailed. And for the Nation of Islam the answers to those questions were clear: Fard Muhammad was the Mahdi, the Redeemer of Islamic eschatology who will lead the faithful on the path to salvation. He had come to public life on the 4th of July of 1930 in order to guide the Black nation out of servitude and towards freedom in a nation of their own. And Elijah Muhammad was his hand-picked successor, the Supreme Minister of the Nation.

"My Nation! Dearest brothers, sisters! People from the Lost Tribe of Shabazz! Hear my words, and heed the call of Islam!

A roaring, thunderous applause rang through the mosque.

"We, the chosen people of God on this American continent, stand at the precipice of great change. A change both earth-shattering and marvellous, both harsh and pleasant at the same time! We stand at the beginning of a period that will forever change the future of this slave state that is called the United States of America!

For years, poverty, oppression and exploitation has run rampant across America. For years, our people, the original people of this Earth, have been downtrodden and enslaved by the white demons that call this country their own! For years, decades, nay for centuries has this been our lot in life. But now it is different! Now, with the power of Allah and the inspiration of Master Fard Muhammad, the Black race has risen up! We have embraced our Islamic faith, our Arab tongue, our African culture! And we are here to demand what we are owned!

We demand the land that our ancestors have worked in fetters for generations! We demand a country to call our own! We demand our own land of Canaan, our Promised Land! And we shall never give up until we receive our due.

My brethren, this year is an election year for the White man of this land. The cracker-in-chief, Al Smith, is feeling the hot breath of the Communists and the followers ofn Huey Long in his neck. The Democrats and Republicans, the two pillars of white supremacy in America, are bickering amongst one another while the country falls apart around them. This we know. This we have always known, for it was foretold. An empire such as this, living apart from the commandments of Allah, is doomed to fail no matter what.

Doth thou not see? Across the globe, the White devils are killing eachother by the millions, and have done so for over two decades! A war of demonic, Satanic proportions is blazing through Europe, eradicating entire peoples, burning entire realms and burying cities under mountains of ash and death. Verily, the End is near for the world order that the devils call their own.

The time has come for us, the Chosen People, to rise up and claim what is ours! Stand at the ready, my brothers and sisters! Be prepared, Nation of Islam. Our time has come. At any given moment, whenever God gives us a sign and shows us the right moment, we shall move forward and claim our due, with the cry of Allahu Akbar on our lips alongside the slogan of our Nation: Justice, Or Else!

Black Friday, February 14th, 1936
Berlin Schönefeld Airport

While the Kaiser has kept his public appearances to a bare minimum, regarding a combination of concerns from plague, war, and internal radicals abound possibly jeopardizing his own personal safety. In a rare sight he made an appearance today at the Schönefeld Airport that had also housed the aircraft plant of the same name to be given a tour of the plant by the Commander of the Luftwaffe himself, Hermann Goering, with President Paul Von Hindenburg also in attendance. The security detail was obviously tight, and members of the public and press being vetted beforehand to reduce any risk of incident, Kaiser Wilhelm didn't seem as concerned though.

The Great War had made him rather jaded, almost feeling like a specter to a German Empire that once had so much ambition, so much hope, seemingly getting more erased by the day as radicals and the Entente seek to bring it down and for it all it stands for. He had to make many compromises to try and keep the nation going to where it is today, but he had been wondering in recent years if he was only staving off the inevitable.

Once hearing the news last month of his cousin George dying on a late January night however, Wilhelm had been having far more second thoughts for the first time in awhile about the War. Seeing as how he couldn't even be at attendance for his late cousin's funeral, just like he wasn't able to be there for Nicholas when he was killed years ago. This family blood feud which has claimed the lives of untold millions has gone on for far, far too long, becoming rather cruelly pointless. He felt guilty, he should've felt guilty, and to think he only stopped to think again once George had died. The mere thought had grown to haunt him more and more, and he only now wish for things had been different in this mad world.

He wasn't even paying attention anymore to Goering's rather enthusiastic showing to him and the President of some of the latest bombers meant to bring death and destruction on Paris and London that the plant churns out day in and day out, the implications were unsubtly morbid. To think of the hospitals and schools they could've been building instead...

Taking the rapidly aging Hindenburg aside privately, Wilhelm had confessed that this couldn't let this go on for any longer, it had become literal insanity of massive proportions. "Well what are you going to do?" Hindenburg then asked, seeing as how the Reichstag was currently in session.

"We'll speak with the leaders of all the parties directly in Berlin, they're convening now in the Reichstag right? We need to plan this now." He then hurriedly wrote a list of things he was going to say with his good hand, writing something along the lines of peace talks and demilitarization at first.

"You think you aren't rushing this process a bit?" He leaned next to the Kaiser, "And why only now you've decide to be completely against this war, we've been at it for years, Willy!"

Finishing his note he then turned to the President, "Cause I'm the only one who's left remember, with George dead. I gotta make this right for the German people, I will abdicate and bring this war to a close if I have to."

Hindenburg was shocked, clutching his chest a bit even. "You've absolutely lost it, the Reichstag won't take you seriously, my Kaiser."

"Not for much longer." He was determined now, and Hindenburg realized there was nothing he could do to really stop him now as he joined him back on the tour of the plant.

The Black Friday Motorcade Massacre

When the tour had concluded, Kaiser Wilhelm II and President Hindenburg in a surprising turn of planned events for the day, decided to instead head with their motorcade into Berlin proper to convene with the Reichstag who were currently in session. Surprising both the press and the security detail who then hurriedly changed their plans to accommodate both the Kaiser the President, not exactly knowing why the abrupt change and leading into much speculation. However once they were well and through the city and could in fact see the Reichstag coming up, horror struck.

A bomb of sorts exploded underneath the part of street where Hindenburg's car was just directly on top of, the ground spewing forth violently like a man-made volcanic eruption as the bomb detonated. It completely took out Hindenburg's car, reducing it to flaming hot molten wreckage with black smoke asunder. Killing both the President and everyone inside the car and those who were standing at a several meter radius of it, dying instantaneously from the explosion and shrapnel. The street was poxed with debris, and caked with fresh blood, burn marks, and the occasional human limb as several bodies lay on the ground, with some of the wounded screaming out for help and trying to desperately drag their broken bodies to safety, a complete horror show.

The Kaiser's car was only just barely luckier, as the shockwave from the explosion had tipped the car over violently and knocked Wilhelm unconscious with several broken bones. Rescue crews and the security detail who weren't in the bombed motorcade quickly responded to the site, managing to evacuate the Kaiser who while still alive, was in critical condition and put into a coma. By the end of the night, crews were still searching through the carnage for an accurate death count, while the military police investigation ordered by August von Mackensen had tried to find any leads as to who was responsible for the bombing. Regardless this stood as a Black Friday for the German Empire, with the already depressed markets plummeting to even unprecedented levels following the news, practically collapsing entirely overnight.

Mackensen had then quickly ordered the Reichstag to not convene for the foreseeable future, and for defenses at Königsberg to see a massive increase in order to ensure the protection of Wilhelm III. Dark days were beginning to loom on Germany.

Outskirts of Nizhny Novgorod

Observing the main line of opposing Soviet soldiers through his binoculars as they stood and waited outside of his city forebodingly, the Acting Chairman of the Volga, Nikolai Bulganin, took note of the fact that the soldiers were seemingly standing idly by at their positions and even playing instruments of all things. "The hell kinda clown show Stalin is running here?" He muttered under his cold breath. It was still the middle of February, Valentines Day he thinks?

He had been forced to give up a few kilometers of land already upon hearing of the Soviet build up the month prior on the border, believing his troops would serve to better defend the outside of the city proper than try to hopelessly defend a token amount of border villages. No the only prize here was the city of Nizhny Novgorod, everything else was an afterthought. But even still he was still dealing with tens of thousands of enemy troops, hundreds of thousands even he somehow manages to defeat even that. While he is certain he'll definitely lose in any long and drawn out fight with Stalin, perhaps he could still parley for some amenities for his clique and people?

"Comrade Chairman!" One of his lieutenants then joined him in the observatory post, "The bastard Stalinists have just sent a detachment heading to the city proper!" He hurriedly relayed to him.

"What? How strange, why send such a smaller force when the main force is standing right before us?" Bulganin then scratched his head, somewhat perplexed, but then quickly taken into consideration of what it could've been, "It's a probing attack possibly, lieutenant, trying to find a weak spot in our defenses I'm sure."

"You sure it's not to intimate us into surrendering you think? Or have it be an envoy of sorts to negotiate some sort of surrender?" The lieutenant then questioned him, himself also unsure of what to make of the rather unusual behavior coming from the opposing army at their doorstep.

"Sergei, if they had wanted to negotiate with us first, they wouldn't have been already 10 kilometers into our goddamned territory by now would they!" Bulganin made sternly clear to the officer.

"Ready the artillery and mortar teams, we are now officially at war until Stalin makes it clear he wants to talk to us, but it'll be on my terms alone." He looked coldly and with great command at his lieutenant who could only nod meekly in response, "Yes, Comrade Chairman..."

Within a few minutes, a salvo of artillery fire begun to shell Tukachevsky's forces frontal position outside of the city, with mortar teams and rifle companies who earlier begun to interloped the small detachment that approached the city in a full on engagement.

White Russian snow runs red once again with Russian blood...

White Russian snow runs red once again with Russian blood...

"What the..." Tukachevsky growled as shells began to land, throwing up snow, ice, and dirt.

"What should we do?!" Yelled a low ranking officer.

"Call in air support! Scare the enemy with some bombers!" Tukachevsky yelled back as mortar rounds hit his columns.

"Should we send in the tanks sir?" Asked a grizzled colonel.

"Yes. And ready the artillery." Tukachevsky responded as artillery teams began to set up, and tanks started to move forwards.

"Air support is on it's way!" A radioman shouted as troops dismounted from their trucks and readied their weapons.

"Good! How is the artillery going?" Tukachevsky asked as the sound of bullets as artillery became part of the background noise.

"The smaller guns are ready, but are heavier caliber weapons are nearly ready!" Replied a soldier as Soviet troops began to return fire with rifles, machine guns, some mortars, and 76mm regimental guns.

"I hoped the idiots in Nizhny would surrender!" Cussed a soldier.

"They underestimated what we brought to the fight!" Replied another.

"Shut up you two and fire the damn Maxim!" Screached a third.

"Look!" Shouted a third. "The tanks are returning fire!"

T-26s fired round after round at the enemy while their machine guns rattled away. At the same time, T-28s began a devastating barrage of machine gun and tank gun fire that began to rip appart the enemy lines.

"The artillery is ready!" An officer told Tukachevsky.

"Tell them to open fire." Tukachevsky responded.

"Artilley! Fire!" Shouted the officer as 107mm, 122mm, and 152mm guns opened fire with their loud bangs.

"That will teach those traitors a lesson!" Chuckled Tukachevsky as he grinned.

Just as he said that, the faint drone of engines could be heard in the distance. The drone came from behind the Soviet forces, and was steadily getting louder.

"They sound like ours." A soldier remarked.

"How would you know?" Tukachevsky asked him.

"Simple, sir. My family is from near Monino. I grew up near the sound of airplanes. I know them most by memory." The soldier replied as Tukachevsky knoded his head.

"Bombers!" Shouted a lookout as Soviet TB-1 and TB-3 bomber aircraft approached.

"The taste of revenge is sweet." Grinned a soldier as the Soviet artillery fired more volleys.

The planes spotted the enemy lines below, and then dropped their bombs. Most missed, but the damage was still done as explosions shook the snow Russian countryside.

Nizhny Novgorod had sealed it's fate by fighting back. Now, Stalin would be furious.

Nizhny Novgorod
Officer Yuri Gregory

Commissar Gregory felt his temple shake in a tremor as Stalinist artillery and bombs smacked into his companies' entrenched position, and into the city behind him. Feeling woozy from the fray already, his senses had been momentarily blurred and he had a feeling of an odd, tranquil clarity as his men had ducked their heads and had bits of debris fall on their heads like pebbles clinking off buckets on top of children. This was it, this was surely the end of their little Free Soviet clique in the wake of Stalin's brutal advancement into their home and country.

Another explosion went off in their defensive line, shaking his resolve even more, he could only now turn to his men who were obviously scared and frightened, to say the least from their circumstances. No, now was not the time to cower in fear and accept defeat, they'll fight on for as long as they can no matter what, even if it killed them all!

"My soldiers of the Free Red Army, we stand before invaders from the dastardly West who hold us with great contempt and a willingness to destroy what Lenin had first sought out to accomplish for the people of Russia! We will show these traitor Stalinist pig bastards how real Soviet men fight against tyrannical oppressors. We will refuse to back down, Stalin can count on that!" Yuri rallied his company of brothers in the trenches, increasing their fighting spirits to the best of his ability.

"Sir, we have enemy armor approaching our lines!" His second in command relayed to him as a column of T-26 and T-28 tanks made their way into his front.

"Ready the anti-tank rifles and guns, Comrades!" The Commissar ordered at the top of his lungs, as the barrage of bullets and HE shells from the enemy armor that smacked his position were soon met with armored piercing rounds and shells which served to thin out the more lightly concentrated onslaught of tanks in the advancing line. But the onslaught continued largely unhindered despite the losses inflicted on the enemy, as more explosives rocked their position. "We need more damn AA-Guns online against these bombers!" He gritted through his teeth as another bombardment rocked his position to no end.

Nikolai Bulganin

The Acting Chairman had soon retreated to the city proper of Nizhny Novgorod, knowing full well that he was surely endangered at the front. That the best he could hope for now was to prolong the fighting as much as possible until Stalin was willing to negotiate to more proper terms for his SSR. He had anticipated fighting to erupt into the streets within hours, having quickly ordered his sappers to boobytrapped the city as fast as they humanely could in preparation to a general retreat into the city. He had fully intended the Soviets to pay dearly for their aggressive actions against such a fellow Soviet such as himself! He'll try and prolong it as long as possible, calling in some favors even if he was awarded with that amount of time.

"I need to remind this 'Man of Steel,' that he is as mortal and fallible as just like the rest of us." Bulganin said to his lieutenant as they arrived to the central command bunker in the city's proper.

"Right, Comrade Chairman, he surely won't just bomb us to smithereens and reduce the whole city to rubble just to ensure we are defeated." His lieutenant snarked back at him, unashamed at any consequences for insubordination at this point in their rather dire circumstances.

"Ah, but you are forgetting that we have a whole city for him to push into and spend resources on capturing. He's free to negotiate with us at anytime he damn well pleases..." Bulganin finished off, before then ordering a gradual retreat of his forces within the following hours into the urbanized city of Nizhny Novgorod to continued the fighting in a promised mess of close-quarters city fighting.

Near Nizhny Novgord

"Did you take the city?" Stalin asked Tukachevsky over the radio.

"No sir." Tukachevsky replied morosely.

"What is the damn holdup?! Is Bulganin not cooperating?!" Stalin yelled.

"No sir. We tried sending in troops to request them to surrender, but they where shot at, so we obviosuly returned fire." Tukachevsky replied.

"That fool Bulganin!" Cursed Stalin. "He shot at a peaceful delegation?! The monster!"

"Of course sir. But should we try negotiating again?" Asked Tukachevsky.

"One final atempt." Stalin said. "But you must go with the delegation."

"Yes sir." Tukachevsky replied as the radio went silent.

"What was that?" Asked a radioman.

"Stalin. He says to try negotiating one more time. Ready a convoy immediately." Tukachevsky ordered.

"Yes sir." The soldier replied.

Ten Minutes Later

Tukachevsky rode with a certain Georgy Zhukov in a GAZ-M1. Behind them where two other GAZ-M1s that bore a white flag. They drove along the now dark and icy road towards Nizhny Novgorod with their headlights on, and white flags in prominent display. They hoped it was not too late to possibly talk some reason into the enemy into surrendering. Already the outskirts of Nizhny Novgorod had been affected, and Tukachevsky wanted to take the city intact. And frankly he didn't want to set a prescendent for other pro-Soviet forces that they too would be crushed by the Red Army. Now only time would tell since not too far up ahead seemed to be a patrol of enemy troops, and that made Tukachevsky nervous.

Nizhny Novgord
Nikolai Bulganin

"Comrade Chairman!" His Lieutenant came rushing into his office in the bunker when it became well into the night, "Our outer patrols have just caught Tukachevsky in a small convoy heading into the city, they bore a white flag!"

"Aha! See now that's my diplomacy gambit paying off right there, Sergei!" Bulganin was ecstatic at this new development, it had come sooner than he had anticipated actually. But now was the time to properly list some conditional demands to their supposed "Soviet Reclaimers" by the time they arrived.

"Send Tukachevsky here then to my office, we'll discuss the terms to establishing an autonomous SSR when he arrives." Bulganin then took out a bottle of vodka from under his desk he kept for special occasions along with a few shot glasses.

"Well Comrade Chairman there is another high ranking officer with him, a Georgy Zhukov I believe." His Lieutenant then told him, which Bulganin then raised an eyebrow to, having recognized the General's name from during the earlier days of the Civil War and much after.

"I see... Well bring them both in. I could care less about Tukachevsky freezing his ass off out there, but Zhukov can get the front row seat to the heater if he so desires." Bulganin then started pouring a shot for himself.

"Yes Comrade Chairman, understood." Sergei nodded and left to bring the two Generals in.

After a couple of more minutes, the two Soviet Generals were eventually brought in with an audience with the Chairman. "Good of you two to join me Comrades, I see after that little scrap outside earlier you wanna negotiate?" Bulganin then said to the two, offering them shots of vodka.

"I think we both know what we want out of this, and I think we could make something work out to appease the Man of Steel back in Moscow, dah? I want Nizhny Novgord to be an Autonomous SSR, meaning we'll levy a portion of our resources and yearly earnings back to the Kremlin, but as for my Free Red Army, that will remain intact and under my command." He made himself rather clear to the two despite being a few shots in already into the night.

Nizhny Novgorod
Bulganin's Office

Tukachevsky still was fuming. Nothing had gone as planned, and now Bulganin was listing his demands. They weren't unreasonable, but they weren't something Stalin would like either. Simply put, a compromise needed to be struck. But that was what Zhukov was for. After Tukachevsky began to smoke a pipe, Zhukov knew it was time to talk.

"Comrade Bulganin, I would like to meet your demands. But we are generals, not politicians. Neither of us have the authority to declare Nizhny Novgorod an ASSR." Zhukov said in a calm, but slightly irritated tone before listing what he was willing to do. "My counterproposal is as such: you surrender, and in return you are made a Marshal of the Soviet Union. And the Free Red Army is integrated into the Red Army, under your command."

"I wouldn't ignore this Bulganin." Tukachevsky growled in a deep voice.

"How does that sound Comrade Bulganin? For surrendering, you get to become a Marshal of the Soviet Union, and you get to command the Free Red Army as part of the Red Army. This is any soldier's dream. I would not pass it up if I was in your position." Zhukov stated as he then glanced at Tukachevsky, who knoded in approval.

The Chairman didn't pay much mind to Tukachevsky's rather unsubtle discontent for him, if anything he was rather amused that he made the General such a fuming mess. He could tell Stalin must've been on the General's ass for not having the city surrender earlier as was originally planned, Bulganin figured he could potentially use that to his advantage if Tukachevsky had an interest in remaining alive past today.

Of course it was good thing he had a lot more respect for Zhukov than Tukachevsky by a long shot. "You offer up an interesting proposal, Zhukov. I'll be inclined to take it, but of course I don't want to entirely sell out my people quite yet. See they need confidence that they won't get immediately given the short end of the stick here the moment I leave to become a Marshal of the Soviet Union. So that's why I will also demand for my base of operations here in Nizhny Novgorod to remain intact along with my Army at my command for the time being as the people transition into becoming guaranteed equal and fairly treated Soviet citizens. That'll ensure the best chance for longterm peace, General."

He took out a cigar to smoke as well, waiting for Zhukov's response to his slightly revised offer.
